I am incredibly disappointed in my visit to Don Pablo's today. Not a single item we ordered for lunch was actually edible. My salad and my companion's burrito bowl were both incredibly bland. His burrito bowl came to the table with a total of two tiny pieces of chicken in it. When we complained he was given a small bowl with about 4 more tiny pieces along with a not so nice tasting sauce that was also on the chicken in my salad. The queso was almost so cold by the time it arrived at the table, that it was too solid to dip chips in. Basically the only thing we consumed from our almost $30 lunch was the chips, many of which were chewy. The most disappointing part of the whole thing was that when the manager came to the table, she was full of excuses. It was not good. As a business owner I couldn't believe how she kind of blew the incident off, when we quite literally returned two whole plates of food. She did comp the cheese, but really it was an unacceptable response to my complaints. I understand that Don Pablo's isn't actually authentic Mexican food and as such won't have the flavors right, but nothing about the experience was good.

The service is great, but the food just isn't worth the price or time. It's rare for me to think the food I make at home is better (or God help us, the fast food version is better) but that's the case. Their ground beef isn't seasoned at all, it's very very bland and there's no other seasonings in the food. The salsa is quite bad, it's like a thicker version of chunked tomatoes without any seasoning. I've had better Mexican food at Applebee's and Taco Bell :(. Also, it's almost always cold when it gets to you even though it's fast service. Normally I'd give the restaurant 2 stars for the great service, but since this is a chain restaurant I added another star since most customers will know what they're coming for.

Suckered in by neon lights! I am a moth when it comes to a restaurant covered in neon lights. So, against fellow Yelper recommendations that this place is meh, I followed the neon lights. It's all atmosphere here ... and not much else. The waitress recommended her favorite dish, the "stuffed enchilada". I was not a big fan. I couldn't tell if the enchilada was covered with melted cheese or runny sauce; regardless, I cared not for the flavor. I didn't know that this is a national chain restaurant, and, I must say -- I wasn't disappointed in my disappointment of the food at this place. But the neon lights are cool.

Not a terrible choice for "Mexican" food. Unfortunately most times I go to this restaurant, they seem understaffed. A decent wait for food, and at times a decent wait to get a seat-which appalls me considering how large this place is. Tonight the waiting area was full, however there were lots of available tables. It just seems like the servers don't have enough time to keep up. Fajitas are a crowd pleaser from Don Pablo's. Their chips and salsa keep flowing, and their queso blanco is worth a dip. Margaritas pass the test here, and I can't order without having corn cake as a side.

Food was fine. It's Don Pablo's, so if you like a fairly basic Mexican menu, you should enjoy the food. The staff, however, was outstanding! I rarely write reviews for chain restaurants, but the host and server we had went out of their way to help us and I would go back there for that reason alone!

My experience today embodies why 'Casual Dining' is dying in America. Nice facilities, decent service, and cheap awful food. Today, instead of experiencing the promised Tex-Mex - I got a heaping portion of cheap corporate food, made at a factory somewhere and assembled on site. The speedy lunch provided a taco, a tamale, and two sides. The taco: nice soft tortilla, maybe the highlight of my meal. However I took all of the meat off it because rather than any sort of normal ground beef, I was presented with a strange finely textured meat like product reminiscent of Taco Bell beef filling. Covered in cheap cheese. Fiesta vegetables- heated frozen veggies, but eatable. And the only portion of the meal that was not smothered in cheese. Refrained beans- obviously canned or reconstituted. Way too salty, and covered in cheese. Tamale- the worst part of my meal- inside of the tamale was pork- it had the texture of beef jerky, and was incredibly salty. It may have been ok on it's own, but the tamale was smothered in a scary meat sauce that had the smell and taste of dog food, or cheap hormel canned chili. No wonder consumer are opting for places like Chipotle where the service is willing given up for quality food. Or locally run places where the atmosphere may not be theme-park like, but the food is actually made in premise, tastes like food, and is fresh.

Don Pablo's pretty much lived up to my expectations: average Americanized Mexican food. I was most impressed by their gluten free menu (which admittedly was the reason why I chose to come here). They had a variety of options and were even super willing to let me modify things further. The waitress talked us into trying the queso, and man, I'm glad she did! My dad and I were scraping the bowl clean. The actual food was nothing special. I was hungry when I got there, and I left full. I've had better, and I've had worse. But for West Lafayette, IN (and trying to find something gluten free) Don Pablo's isn't a bad choice.

Good food - not excellent Hot salsa - fair Their Hot totillas is WOW cleanliness - fair the floor is very dirty with chips all over the floor we have been there multiple times and its always the same can surely be slightly cleaner If the sitting area is dirty - how would the kitchen be ?

Use to live in City while my children were very small but never had been to this particular Don Pablo's. But it seems we came on the correct day and time...Tuesday at 5:20pm. It was Taco Tuesday, which means "UNLIMITED BEEF & CHICKEN TACOS"! We also arrived just before the rush started to take place as well. Good seating and quick ordering! The tacos can be ordered "soft shell" or "hard shell" and served with refried beans and Spanish rice! They start you with 3 tacos, then you can order 2 more at a time, over and over again! The Beef and Chicken for the Tacos are perfectly cooked and seasoned to my taste...with a bit of a spicy bite! Flour tortillas are also made fresh at their tortillas stand and Can't beat the price...$7.99. Only down thing was that the attitude of the manager (whom went around to everyone table but ours to ask how things were going) couldn't match the service of our waitress (Terra)! Thanks for great service Terra!

Avoid this place! The service is horrible. The waiter dumped a tray of drinks on my wife and didn't even apologize. The manager didn't come to the table. No comp on the bill. What a terrible place! We will NEVER return! But even before that incident, I have never understood the popularity of this place. There is really nothing at all special about the food. I can get the same suff at Pepe's. But this place is wildly popular and always busy. I just don't get it.

Its been years since I have been to Don Pablo's. The one thing that I always remembered about Don Pablo's was the good food! I came here quite a few times to dine on their delicious cuisine. But besides the food there mixed drinks were off the the chain! My only complaint about this place was the fact that there food is fairly pricey. Other than that the dining experience was very pleasurable and I would recommend it to any of my friends .

I stopped here on the way home from a road trip. It was my second time. The first time, we ordered some kind of appetizer sampler and two entrees (this was 3 years ago so I don't remember what). What I do remember though, was that the appetizer and entrees came out at the exact same time. Our meals were cold by the time we ate some of the appetizer. I just left there from my second visit. Christy, our server, was very friendly and efficient. I ordered the white sangria which kind of tasted like cleaning supplies. The queso blanco dip was fantastic and half price on happy hour! I had the steak fajita burrito which was delicious and my boyfriend has the matador which was pretty decent. The table we sat at had cobwebs on the wall behind it. The ladies bathroom was pretty clean. My boyfriends only complaints were that there were dead flies in the men's bathroom and the bathroom mirror is lined up with the urinals so you can see your wiener in the reflection! 3 stars for decent food and a dirty environment.

Yuck. Their salsa is like taking a whole onion, a diced tomato, and mixing them with water. Waaaay too overpowering on the onion taste. The main meal wasn't much better. My advice...find a mom and pop place, there are no major Mexican chains here to speak of.

I don't have much of an opinion either way, because it's an average Tex Mex place with an artificially "fun" atmosphere. However, the food was decent for what it was. I liked the queso dip, beans, and cheese enchiladas. The restaurant was half empty the evening we went there, and yet our appetizer only came out after waiting for ages then asking for it again. The entrées took a while too. I don't know if that happens often, because it's fairly popular with all the locals I know. Other than that, I'd say give it a go for large parties, maybe not so much for an intimate dinner for two.

If I could give this place a 'zero' rating, I would. We were there for a weekday dinner. The wait was 30 minutes though there were a number of empty tables. We were finally seated. Our waiter didn't show up for another half hour. Milo, who was the host, came by and apologized for the wait because they were short staffed. He brought waters for our party of four. Another 20 mins later, we still hadn't seen our waiter. We went to the front and told Milo to take our order. He did. A 45 minute wait later, our food came. The order was wrong. I'd asked for a chicken chimichanga but got a beef burrito. Tried to find the waiter but he was nowhere to be found. The food was way below average. Two hours later, our waiter showed up and asked if we needed anything. We asked for water refills and ketchup for the fries. They never came. At one point, I asked my under aged daughter to go up to the bar and get ketchup. No results. No one seemed fazed at seeing a kid seated at the bar. We finally left, disgusted. We wasted the food, not worth packing it up. Milo was the only one who seemed friendly. I'll never be back. Spent some four hours there for crappy food. Should have left a long time ago. I didn't leave a tip.

The carnitas dish was pretty good. Generous amount of toppings for the carnitas like fresh avocados, tomatoes, cilantro and pickled onions (sweet and delicious). Salsa is different but very tasty. Didn't get a drink but their drinks looked reasonably priced. Expect to pay +$10 for a entree. Overall, atmosphere was really cool with decent food

Once again we sampled a local Mexican restaurant in Lafayette. The reason we went to Don Pablos was we had a coupon for $10- off on any meal over $25-, which is a great coupon if you consider our bill came to $40- for 4 people, (we do not drink alcohol though.) Only three of us went, me, my 14 year old picky eater, and my wife. The atmosphere is the best of the Mexican Restaurants we have been to here. It has a 30 foot ceiling, in an old brick building, they have nice Mexican fake advertisements pained on the walls, the tables and chairs are simple and modern. They also are a bit corny in they have a special birthday song they sing for birth day guests. Taco Rico and El Meson have a hole in the wall feel, but Don Pablos's has more of an Olive Garden feel. We got a seat right away, and our waitress was friendly and just right in terms of attentiveness. The food was good, but not quite as good as Taco Rico. It was mostly a family place, but higher class than either El Meson or Taco Rico. The prices were a little higher than TR or EM. If I get another killer coupon I will defiantly go back and I probably will go back anyway. I think if you want a slightly classier family restaurant to go to this is the place. If you want more authentic Mexican Food, go to Taco Rico, and if you want more good food and a more kiddie atmosphere, then El Meson is the choice. All are good, none is really, really great, but this is the Midwest, not New Mexico.

Terrible service, cold food, small portions, and expensive prices(especially for chain restaurant). Hadn't been there in 6 years and won't be back. Go to pepes in Lafayette if you want better food, good service, large portions, and affordable prices.

  • Alex C.

It's a chain, the quality is just alright and the pricing isn't great unless you get a special. Overall, if you wan't real mexican in Lafayette, go to El Meson for breakfast or get real tacos at Mi Cabinita down the street.

Was familiar with Don Pablo's from Indy, but the one we patronized closed. Saw this was near our hotel and went there. My kids loved the food and my wife and I were pleased with the food as usual. Our server was excellent. We kept her busy the whole meal, and she never forgot a single thing and took care of us cheerfully.

I haven't been to a DP's since moving from Texas, where they were fairly ubiquitous, so while passing through Lafayette in need of a meal we decided to stop here out of nostalgia, and since we were pretty sure we knew what we were in for. Service was a little weird. The hostess stood bent over her table plan map as though plotting a battle campaign. The people in front of us were standing there while she employed what seemed to be great strategy. She came back to deal with us, asking, "Is a table okay?" We said okay, though a booth would have been preferable, assuming there were no booths...but then she led us back and there were several open. Huh? Then there was the case of the missing waiter. We sat and waited...and waited...for someone to address us. Finally the waitress at the next table asked if we'd been helped. We said no, and she said she'd go and find who'd been assigned to us. A few minutes later a guy came out and rather casually said that he'd just gotten there and they'd assigned us to him. Okay... We started with an order of the queso blanco dip, which was excellent, but ran out of chips halfway through...and our waiter vanished. I looked around and saw every other server in the area but no sign of our man. I finally flagged the kind young woman who'd helped us before and asked if we could get more chips because we didn't know what had happened to our server. She was as nice and accommodating as can be. Our meals were fair: I had the fajita trio, with chicken, beef and shrimp. The beef was a bit overcooked but the other meats were done correctly. Don Pablo's tortillas are tasty and fresh (they have a "station" where you can watch them being made), though they only gave me three for all that meat...again, more waiter-flagging. Sigh. Also, I treated my dad to the meal, and the waiter not only gave the bill directly to my father initially but then gave the receipt and credit card BACK to him once he'd charged it! Not only was this presumptuous anachronistic behavior to begin with, but in the second place, pay attention! The blasted card has my (female) name on it. As far as ambiance, the place is loud and large, one big warehouse-y room, and there was almost no lighting on a dark wintry afternoon? Some gaudy neon and a fun fountain add accents. Overall, this is a decent TexMex chain restaurant -- better than On The Border, not as good as Uncle Julio's. While I would eat here again, I'd hope that the service gets it together next time.

A nice clean Mexican restaurant with just average food. The drinks are are average too, like the margarita's. I hoped for great a great Mexican chain restaurant lie Chevy's but it didn't live up to it for me. I will go back with friends and family if that's where they want to go.

I've been to Don Pablo's before and always walked away unimpressed. I decided this time that maybe that was my fault, since I always ordered the exact same thing (the three amigos enchiladas). This time I decided to try the chipotle pork tacos. I have been converted. These suckers were some of the most delicious tacos I've ever had. I couldn't even finish one, though, because my friend and I decided to get the dip sampler for our appetizer. It comes with tortillas, chips, guacamole, two queso dips, and prairie fire bean dip, and we definitely filled up on that before our food even arrived. It was delicious, though. The service was excellent. The only reason for four stars instead of five was that when we split the bill between my credit card and my friend's cash, my friend didn't get all the change she was entitled to. I always think that's a little sketchy.

Queso!! My goodness it is always so amazing especially with warm tortillas. Their strawberry margaritas are delicious and although a little pricier then what I'd prefer they are definitely worth it. Wednesdays are fajita night and their fajitas are delicious and are good portions!

Stay away! Horrible customer service! Our bartender was more worried about her boyfriend sitting at the host area then she was about doing her job. It took 20 mins for her to even take our food order! It's not like she was busy as there were only a few small tables in the restaurant and we were the only ones in the bar area. We even watched servers multiple times have to go behind the bar to make there own drinks! This is not the first time we have had a bad experience there. I can guarantee that we will NEVER go back to this location again.

I went here with a pretty large group of friends this summer following a pool party (why does swimming always make one FAMISHED?). We were actually still in the pool discussing food options. Upon mentioning the possibility of Don Pablo's, a man lounging nearby spoke up. Turns out, he was the manager of this particular location and was flattered that we were considering eating there. He gave us coupons for free appetizers! SCORE. So the 8 of us carpooled over to Don Pablo's. Despite the size of our party, we were seated right away. My friends talked me into ordering the biggest margarita on the menu. It was delectable. I think I got the 3 Amigos Enchiladas (which were also delightful). Overall a really great experience, and a great place to sit and chat with friends over drinks.

We have been to Don Pablo's quite a few times when visiting family in Lafayette. It has always been a favorite hangout. I give them 4 stars based on multiple visits. My most recent experience was more like a 3-star, but the sopapillas would get me back again. We (wife and I, her sister and bro-in-law, and their mother) went in the middle of the afternoon (2:00-ish), so we were about the only customers at the time; thus the service was great. Chips and salsa were served immediately, and waters right away. The salsa is very chunky and nicely flavored, and there's Cholula for people like me who need a bit more heat. I was the only margarita, ordered the primarita, the top shelf. It was the pulpiest margarita I ever had, I thought it was very good. The Wednesday lunch special was fajitas, so several of us got that. I was the only combo steak and chicken, the others had the chicken only. They came with a generous serving of all the fixings, and you can switch things out, which is nice. Some people wanted no sour cream and double the guacamole, no problem. I wanted black beans with the Mexican rice. My one big complaint was that my steak fajita strips were tough and full of gristle, to the point that I couldn't cut through them with my incisors. So when I tried to bite through the steak, the whole strip would come out of the tortilla in one piece. Then there are the sopapillas. Don Pablo's has hands down THE best sopapillas anywhere. They come soaked in a rum-buttered sauce and are finger-licking good. I will go back again just for the sopapillas if nothing else. And I don't remember having any complaints about my food on previous visits, so I will give them another chance.

Bright and loud, this Don Pablo looked exactly like the others I have been to over the years. Service was slow, food was fair. There's nothing wrong with the food, but there was also little right...it was meh. The margarita was watered down and less than stellar. If you must have Mexican flavors, this is a decent choice...but if you can find a hole-in-the-wall family place, go there instead and have REAL Mexican food.

Fun place, even though it's a chain, has some of the best Mexican food, not the same filing for everything. The 4 enchilada plate is our favorite, first time for fajitas, little disappointed in the steak meat portion.

My wife and I always have a good meal and a good time relaxing at the Lafayette Don Pablo's restaurant. It is a great atmosphere and the food has always satisfied us. The staff is always top notch in friendliness and helpfulness. My wife loves the chips, and I love the salsa that goes along with them. The chips are not overcooked like we find at other competing restaurants. I hate it when they are served obviously bordering on being burnt and not to perfection, but DP's seems to actually care about their chip quality and what they serve their customers. The thing I really want to spread the word about is a new winning item that I tried and am excited about, it is the new Pecos Valley Veggie Fajita. You get the standard onions and peppers, plus spinach, corn, carrots, zucchini, summer squash, and tomatoes (maybe I am missing others). What a refreshing combination of veggies to be use for fajitas. There is a lot of good stuff there and one would be hard pressed to eat all that is served. The only negative is that the carrots where not as tender as one would expect or hope for in a fajita veggie blend. They do not give you a lot of lettuce, sour cream, cheese, or guacamole, but they make up for it with an extra large serving of sizzling veggies. I do not know of any other veggie fajitas in the Lafayette or West Lafayette area with this kind of variety of veggies. If anyone one knows of any amazing veggie fajitas such as these at other area restaurants I would like to know about it. Don Pablo's is one of our eastside favorites, and never disappoints..

Really disappointed- We used to go here every time we were in town. The grilled chicken in the Tacos was cold and tough and a different recipe than before. The guacamole had turned and had a rancid canned taste. We came to celebrate my childs birthday and even though we told them several times, they did not get the hat out and do their spiel. Won't go again- ever!,

Usually good. Occasionally a little slow service if eating at an off-peak hour. Chips & salsa are a great start to a pretty good Tex-Mex meal.

At here yesterday for lunch with my Cousin and his wife and had a wonderful time! The atmosphere is awesome, and the food is wonderful! I had the Chicken Chimichanga and loved it just like usual. We also had some flour tourteau's and had them bring out butter, to go with them! Overall, it was an excellent dinner!

The first restaurant we tried out after moving to town was a great success! Unlike other Mexican restaurants, Don Pablo's offered a great variety and many dishes that were spins off the usual and expected by incorporating different flavor palettes into the normal Mexican restaurant cuisine. Besides the food being fantastic, the service was prompt and accommodating and the atmosphere was open and inviting. Can't wait to go back!

good food with a pretty large variety on the menu, fun staff and tidy and fun environment. the waiters know when to talk to their customers and when to serve them silently (an acquired skill that i am finding to be increasingly more convenient). they gave me refills on my drink without my even noticing them at times (but it was always prompt and they always ask before they refill a drink that does not include free refills). the reason that i gave it a four is that although i love the food here and the environment is fun and the staff is awesome, i always get indigestion after i eat here. it only tends to be me (i guess i have a weak system), but that is the one reason why i gave this restaurant a lower score. good for kids, would recommend to families, and groups going to have some fun as well as being a good place for a date.
