This was and still is one of our go-to places in the Lafayette / West Lafayette area. I spent many an evening here in college and end up back here fairly often when visiting the alma mater. Their beer selection is simply outstanding. They feature beers from all over the place and even have a lot of Indiana beers if you're looking for something closer to home. And, in case all that drinking has made you feel a little peckish, then fear not - their food, while your typical bar food offerings, is all very well done and satisfying. Chum's will always be my first pick for a relaxed place to hang out. And I recommend you give it a go too.

We had no idea where to stop off for lunch whilst passing through on our way to NapTown. My better half saw the excellent draft list at Chumley's and that's where we went. It's a nice space with your usual sports bar feel that I'm sure is a hit with the campus crowd of the area. It took us some time to work through the tap list and just when we were ready with our calls our waitress threw us for a loop with perhaps the best beer deal I've heard since dollar drafts at the Cockpit (Columbia, SC)-on Saturday pints from Indiana Brewers were only $3.50! Oh my! With nearly a half dozen Three Floyds on the list this had the potential to get ugly. Alpha King for the lady and the Bruce for me. The food is typical pub fare of all sorts. Perhaps too much, it bordered on overwhelming. Grilled chicken salad for Kris and I had a grilled chicken sandwich with the hottest of their wingy sauces. It was damn good and lit me up. Gimbal head and Alpha King for our second round and then out the door we went. If I were local, I'd surely be here every Saturday.

If you want prompt service definitely sit at the bar. We come here often for the Thursday schooner night. (A schooner glass is $6, you can take it with you and bring it back. A refill is the cost of a draft for a beer, a double for liquor, and you can also get their mixed drinks for way cheap.) Service is sparse (but friendly) even before the place gets packed. If my husband and I come here as a twosome we always sit at the bar. Every time we've sat at the bar the people working have been very cheerful and attentive! The food is decent, slightly above par in most aspects. Except for their nachos. Chumley's nachos, to me, are the pinnacle of nachos. Gooey cheese, loaded with veggies, and free guac. That's right, free guac! Chumley's has ruined my nachos experience at every other restaurant. The hummus is also very good and the portions are huge. Their wings are delicious but overpriced - I only get them on Sundays when they are half off. If you like sports this is a great place to watch the games. They have tons of TVs and they've started marking the TVs with magnets that show the lineup they'll be showing on each TV that night, so you can be sure to sit near a TV that has your game on it. Three stars because, despite the delicious nachos, it's still a loud and dark college bar that can get pretty rowdy. Schooner nights are Monday & Thursday, and they have half priced apps every weekday from 4-6pm. Wings are half off all day Sunday!

My friends and I love the half price appetizers events in the late afternoons and this makes the place our gathering place right after school. We also love the schooner night! They have a huge beer menu and I guess you can pretty much find whatever beer you like. I personally am not a beer person, but I have been supporting their cocktails. Favorite cocktail: Colorado root beer and Mai tai. Appetizers are also good and I like the calamari and BBQ nacho.

The best times) days to go are Monday and Thursday, when they have schooner night. You can get beer or cocktails in a big schooner glass at a very affordable price (they'll sell you one that you can keep bringing, if you don't already have one). The beer selection is huge; the cocktail menu only has about a dozen drinks but most people will probably be able to find something that suits them. From 4-6 pm the appetizers are half price. I like the nachos, calamari, and quesadillas. Not a fan of the fried pickles or chicken tenders. Service can sometimes be a bit slow.

I got a drink called the Electric Lemonade, it is pretty similar to an AMF that we have in CALI. I liked it and it was pretty cheap also! Come here to drink, there are a lot of TVs that show different games!

I'm not sure what the service issue has been in the past, but I have been to Chumleys four times and had wonderful service. Twice it was just for the beer selection and twice for food. The California Chicken Sandwich was one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever eaten. I did a carry out on a moving day of their cheese burgers. I typically like thin patties but these are thick. I didn't get to eat it until it was cold and it was still excellent. You could tell the beef was high quality. Sports bar with wide variety of beers AND good food!

They're a good bar. Good food, good drinks... The only thing holding them back is terrible customer service. Last time (last time ever, now) we went there, the total was accidentally written on the tip line. Four days later, when called and asked about it, they refused to make it right. I know this is partly a customer error, but who would think someone would leave a 120% tip? That's shady business practice, to me. Besides that we waited 10 minutes to get a refill on drinks, when they brought our appetizer out our original server wrote the wrong table number down and our new server was asking the table next to us if they got food. Before this trip I've seen super unprofessional behavior by staff. It was a little slow one time (early on a Monday) and the door person and server were chatting with who I presume to be another employee who wasn't working (or just a random customer!) and they were flirting, laughing and really enjoying themselves.... While I was sitting with an empty glass. At one point the bartender even joined them to chat. All the while I sat without a drink. We were planning on ordering food, but we just left after we paid, of course. They missed out on a potential sale and an even better tip... But still, my point stands: the only thing holding them back is that they lack decent customer service.

Great atmosphere and a good place to meet friends. A popular spot for grad students from Purdue. And a bonus--this bar knows how to make cocktails right!!

Chumleys is always our go-to place when we want a night out. We have lots of friends from Chicagoland and we always go here for the variety of beer. Music is always amazing! Hard to get a table on weekends and staff is OK but never outstanding customer service. One really disappointing experience. We had friends coming down for my fiance's birthday and as always, planned for Chumleys. Unfortunately, I had two wisdom teeth removed the day before and the only thing I could eat were their side items. They would not let me! I asked the waiter to check with a manager and the same result. No matter what I offered to pay, they would not serve me any kind of side item unless it was served with a meal. Thought that was pretty ridiculous that they could not accommodate a regular customer who could only eat certain foods on the menu.

I enjoy this Chumley's so much more than it's cousin in Broad Ripple. Much nicer atmosphere, very open layout and the location in the older building is awesome. Reminds me of so many great old town bars I love so much. Fantastic draft beer selection and lots of drink specials thru out the week. Great choices in Indiana beers tool. I really enjoy their wings. They definitely crack my top 10 places to get wings. This time I had the dry caribbean jerk and hot honey. Both were yummy, with a surprising amount of spice. This is becoming my go-to grub place when in Lafayette. Try it!

Chumley's is a great place to stop whether you'd like a few drinks or excellent food (or both). The atmosphere is often quiet enough that I've even seen students doing school work at the corner tables late on weeknights. Their drink menu is absolutely fantastic, ranging from a massive selection of beer to martinis and cocktails. Overall, when myself and some friends are looking for a quieter place to eat and still enjoy a few drinks this is generally the place we agree on. The only downside is that you might need a DD.

For me, Chumley's is my favorite bar in downtown Lafayette (most wouldn't agree with me). I like the energy and being able to watch football. The food is just your typical bar food - nothing special, but they have a lot of options. Similarly, there are a lot of options for beer. I have honestly never had anything other than beer at Chumley's, so I cannot speak for their mixed drinks. The best nights to go are Thursdays (schooner night) or during a big game. Schooner nights (Mondays and Thursdays) are a really good deal, but be careful not to get too carried away! Overall, I have never had a bad night at Chumley's, but it is more my atmosphere. If the atmosphere isn't for you, try Black Sparrow.

Had one bad experience with rude people checking IDs at the door, but other than that this place has a great beer selection and really great food.

Bar has some of the best drink selection of anywhere I have gone, with over 100 beers and 300 shots. Food is also a great reason to stop here. Good local sports bar for catching the game and having a few drinks with friends. Daily specials also are pretty good: schooner night on Monday and Thursday is when customers buy a 32oz schooner glass for $5 and can fill it up for $2 with domestics and $5 for premium or import beers. Another well-kept secret is their free food buffet on Sundays from 11pm-1am with purchase of a drink. The only drawback to this bar is that service can be spotty to nonexistent at times. I have often waited over an hour for a refill on my drinks.

Chumley's is a great place to have a beer, meet with friends to watch a game, and eat. They have the best selection of draft beer in the Lafayette area (50 taps, I believe). The food menu (much smaller than the beer menu) has plenty of options and a majority of the items I have ordered are good. Beer prices are fair given the number of craft options, but there are daily specials to take advantage of. Overall: Chumley's has a lot to offer in terms of beer and pub food. Pros: Beer selection, good food/menu, many TVs, good service Cons: Mixed drinks are poor, staff will not change TV channels in main seating area but will in side seating areas

Searched Yelp for a place to eat in Lafayette. After reading about almost every restaurant we chose Chumley's. Was a bit nervous despite the reviews because it seemed like a bar that served food. I think we have all had bar food that is barely mediocre. Chumley's is just the opposite. The food is amazing! Mainly sandwiches, Burgers, wraps, etc. The problem was that so many looked so delicious it was hard to choose. Rodney our server showed us two sections in each category. I had The Godfather sandwich which came with chips/dip and a pickle. I am not certain if I more content with the great sandwich or the fact that I have half left that I can eat for breakfast. My friend had the Hawaiian burger. I just had to try. Rodney recommended having it with the Caribbean jerk seasoning. It was the perfect balance. The seasoning balanced out the sweet from pineapple. Appetizer, 2 huge sandwiches and 4 beers....$50.00. Highly recommend and will definitely go there again!!!

I really enjoyed coming to Chumley's. I was out with the boyfriend and his friends and we had already been to one other bar (Brothers) that we were less than impressed with. Chumley's is a very sports sports bar. There are tons of televisions everywhere, each showing various different sports or sports related programming. There is even a tv in the womens restroom, so you don't have to miss any of the action if there is a line. We arrived rather late so the kitchen was only doing appetizers, fine with us. We had the half order of nachos with taco beef, sour cream, and guacamoli (~$7). They were delicious and perfect for two/three people. The beer list is expansive. It is a menu of American, English, European beers, ciders, largers, etc. As well as mixed drinks and well drinks. There is something there for everyone! I had the Raspberry Cider ($4.75) that was delicious and light. I also had the Mai Thai (~$6) which was delicious. The highlight of the night was the Chocolate Covered Pretzel Shots. The table ended up having two rounds and they were absolutely incredible. Service was very pleasant and the waiter was able to split the tab into multiple tabs (why is that so hard to do in LA?!). I loved everything about this bar, especially the fact that I was able to have 2 drinks, 1 mixed drink, a cider, a round of 6 shots, and food on my tab for under $50!

We stopped in for a drink because we heard they have 50 beers on tap. Our waitress, who immediately came to our table despite the fact that the place was packed, informed us that all Indiana beers were on special for $3.75. Score! We had already eaten, so I can't speak for the food, but the draft beer selection is amazing. The only negative was they had some sports game that I could not even begin to care about blaring on a million loud speakers. When the game ended, they started blaring some lame boy-band music from the late 90's. How about some non-lame music from 2014? Despite the noise-pollution, I would return for the wide selection of craft brews, reasonable prices, and great service.

EXCELLENT beer selection on tap. Combined with schooner nights on Monday and Thursday, easily one of the best drink specials in town and my favorite Lafayette bar. Also has a nice atmosphere with good touches like rentable games/cards for the table. Definitely a perfect break from campus bars with a more "grown-up" atmosphere... but that place is still a lot of fun! Just a little more classy than those on the Purdue side of the river. Also women's bathrooms are always in excellent condition- never underestimate the importance of clean toilets!

Chumley's is a good sports bar. I'd go here for beers, I'd go here for food, I'd go here to watch a game (if I was the kind of person that watched games). I had been to Chumley's a few times before I moved here when visiting friends, but had kind of forgotten about it. We decided to go for dinner and drinks on Sunday night when my sister and her boyfriend were in town. They really have a great selection of beers- I think 50 taps and lots more bottles. They even had some unusual beers which I've never seen on tap before (such as lambics). They were unfortunately out of Three Floyds Gumballhead, but the waitress offered to let me sample another beer to find something I liked. I liked that their food menu was extensive without being overwhelming (see Scotty's). They offer a large variety of sandwiches, wraps, apps, and burgers as well as a few entree type meals. I had the fish tacos- fried cod fillets with a cilantro-cream sauce and a slaw, served with tortilla chips. I was looking for something that wasn't too heavy but didn't want a salad and this fit the bill perfectly. I'd order them again! The rest of my table ordered burgers and enjoyed them. I also love that they offer tater tots as a side upgrade- I made my husband order them so I could steal a few. There's something about tater tots that make me smile. A couple of tips- no minors allowed after 9pm, and this is a good place for groups- they have a couple spots where you can reserve a table for a larger seating. There are plenty of TVs- the Sunday night football was at full blast when we were there, so if you (or your parents) are sensitive to loud restaurants, I'd probably go somewhere else.

5 stars on the beer selection, but the following brought down my experience: Men's bathroom * No hand soap. Had to inform the bartender of the issue. To their credit, they filled it up. * The toilet's ceramic cover was broken, which is completely unacceptable for a business. Also, the flush handle was broken and required some playing around to get a proper flush, which I did not want to play around with. The food: * Chicken Nachos with cold precut squares of chicken. These were definitely the worst nachos I have ever tasted. Based on this, I would never order food from here, since first impressions on food are everything. The good: * Great beer selection.

We decided to go here for lunch now that they are smoke free (we usually avoid smoky places). I enjoyed my fish tacos and my companions enjoyed their sandwiches. They have a huge beer menu with many imported beers.

Chumley's is a great spot, and is often a welcome vacation from the usually packed campus bars. Now I like getting my dance on at the Cactus as much as the next guy, but Chumley's is a great Thursday night alternative. The schooner deal is pretty awesome. Plus if you think you'll miss carrying around a Cactus cup all night, going to Chumley's you get to tote the bigger and fragiler schooner glass. They have a great beer selection and good food. You might have to get there early if there is a Thursday night football game going on or something. Also a note, if you are making the trek from Chumley's back to campus, it can be tempting to throw a schooner glass into the Wabash. Not a good idea.

I very much enjoy going to Chumley's. Easily the best menu of beers on tap in town. Chumley's schooner night is my favorite, where I can get a huge goblet full of whatever beer I'd like to try for a really good price. It also isn't a typical college-town bar either. Its not crazy, there aren't drunk girls everywhere. Its a very pleasant atmosphere.

    (4)
  • Alex C.

Chumleys always had the neighborhood hideout feel that was a stark departure from the campus bar scene. It seemed more local, more (relatively) upscale and just less chaotic, but still busy. Their selection is one of the best in town!

This is my favorite place to drink here at Purdue University. I am a graduate student and returned to school after taking a 5 year break, so I am over with the college bar scene and drinking till I pass out. I like to enjoy my drinks in a not so rowdy place and Chumley's is the place. They have a good selection of food and they have a lot of different kind of beers on tap. Sometimes they don't tell you what is out, so a lot of times, if you're really craving a certain beer, they'll say "i'm sorry, we're out" but these are beers that are hard to find in liquor store cause you see them mostly sold at grocery stores and things like that. The ambiance is nice and it's a great place to get a group of people to hang out and drink and to eat . . . until around 9-9:30P starts and that's where they start blaring loud music in the place. That's like the one downside of this place, but hey, it's near a college campus, so you have to make it hip for all these young'ens to enjoy their alcohol. I do have to say, on Mondays and Thursdays, they have a night where if you buy this very large glass, you can get it refill with domestic beer for a very low price, along with the imports. So it's not a bad deal and you get A LOT of beer on Mon and Thurs night But overall, it's a nice place to have a drink and a bite to eat. It'll get a little crowded, but if you get there early and leave early, then you're all good! Cheers!!

Take the trip around the world, a beer trip that is! Great selection of beers, nice clean ambiance, and this place stays busy enough that you can trust the cleanliness of the lines that feed the many many beers they have on tap.

I have been to Chumley's once or twice before but that was only to grab some chow and I was never very satisfied. However, this weekend, while out grabbing drinks with a friend and doing some light bar-hopping, we ended up at Chumley's as our final destination. They had a decent cocktail menu and I started out with a Rum Runner and later had a Kool-Aid. My friend who is much more in the college student crowd than I am explained the schooner thing and I can completely understand its appeal - at least if I were more of a beer drinker. Then I discovered the list on the wall of 300 different shots. This made my night. I am a total list person and it gives me great pleasure to work through a list and cross things off until the task is complete. I immediately had grand visions of working through all 300 shots and claiming some grand Chumley's alcoholic victory. Luckily, I restrained myself and only had two - a Red-Headed Slut and Silk Panties. I am looking forward to going back someday and drinking more towards my goal, LOL! There is definitely a strong college student vibe and it was fairly crowded. We snagged a booth as another couple were leaving and were there for a couple hours. While I wouldn't return for the food, I would definitely go back for more of the 300 shots! ;-)

50 beers on tap and twice as many options in bottles, you go drink a beer a day for 6 months and not possibly repeat! They also have great Gin and Tonics, and they are not all that expensive either. Finding parking can be painful, the smoke tends to stagnate in the air and get into your hair and your clothes and you will leave like a chimney stack, but then think of all those beers ! The service is not all that hot, I personally think they could use more staff, or more efficient and friendly staff. A good place that could have been great

50 beers on tap? yes please!! Mondays and thursdays they have schooner nights, 32oz glasses for $2 for domestics. Other imports and such are pretty good priced too. Mixed drinks also... their food is decent, the chips with salsa/queso/jalapenos is the best thing ever with a nice big schooner of $2 Rolling Rock.

    (4)
  • Jesse B.

This is the place to go if you enjoy beer & or sports! 50+ beers on tap! T.V.'s in every direction with the latest games on! Two thumbs up right there! The staff has always done a great job of always being there to refill, take orders, and make sure your having a good time. They also have a decent sized food menu. Contains starters, sandwiches, burgers, etc. The food is decent but stuff you could make at home or buy out of the freezer section. I do enjoy their chips & dip. Tortilla chips served with 3 dips (mild salsa, a queso-cheese, and guacamole).

I grew up in Lafayette and went to Purdue so unfortunately I know that our bar selection and it is not the greatest. After only going to campus bars for the first year and a half I finally went to Chumley's for dinner one night and I loved it. The food is all really good and they have schooner night on Thursdays which gives you even more of an excuse to drink large amounts of beer. Their beer selection is out of this world and they have a list of about 100 random shots that all have hilarious names and make it so fun to order random ones. It is a pleasant break from campus bars full of sloppy drunks and awful music!

  • Chris C.

Do I love Chumley's? Hell yes. Do I miss the great selection of beers and the terrible (in a good way) nachos? You bet. Did I once drink four schooners of bad beer in a single setting? You can't prove that. Do I still hold onto my schooner in case I wind up back there at some point? Sure. Am I through asking stupid rhetorical question? God, let's hope so.

This place was super busy the saturday I went out. They have an immense beer selection, and a decent cocktail selections. The drinks were priced reasonably for what you get. Our waitress was very gracious of our large party, and helping us table hop into a spot that fit our part size when it became available. she was also very informative on the menu and specials. this place is pretty big for Lafayette bars, lots of seating, lots of tv with sports on it. big bar. thumbs up. Definitely a townie place to hang out though, less of the young dumb college kids here.

I love this bar. Schooner nights used to be a constant for my friends and I every Thursday night. Their on-tap beer selection is almost endless, and every beer I've tried there has not disappointed me. Left Handed Milk stout, Young's Double Chocolate stout, and many more are there for people who take their micro brews seriously. Taking your schooner on Thursdays gets you 32oz of delicious beer for around $6. You can't beat that. For those who aren't beer snobs, they are long islands that are picture perfect, rum and cokes for an extremely reasonable price, and Rolling Rock beer for $2 per 32oz schooner. I highly recommend this bar. On Monday and Thursday, Chumley's get a little packed and it might be hard to find seating, so I'd go early to find a nesting place for the evening. Smoking is also allowed in the building, so for people who don't like a lot of cigarette smoke, I'd probably stay away from it. Also, Chumley's food is amazing and everything that I've ever ordered from there has been delicious without complaint.

I am kind of indifferent to this place, but I just have to say... They serve kraft mac n cheese. What's up with that?!

  • Lauren M.

I like Chumley's because you get the bar atmosphere without having to deal with a bunch of drunk sorority girls and sticky floors. The schooners are also a great deal on Mondays and Thursdays. The food is better than average for bar food and the beer selection is EXCELLENT, the best in the area. The service is also generally good and they have some games you can check out to play at the table. It's definitely the place to go if you want to watch a game. They always know what events are on that day and have it mapped out on which TV each game will be on. I recommend the burgers, the fried green beans (not on the menu) and the pasta (very spicy). The fish tacos are not the best. The only downside is that is gets REALLY crowded on Thursdays because of Schooner night. Many times we go and have to end up going somewhere else because it's too crowded. Also, other days besides Schooner days, the beer is too expensive.

  • Zach R.

Chumley's is my bar of choice in Lafayette. Back in my college days my friends and I could usually be found there every Schooner Night, which is probably the best deal on Earth. You buy the schooner for like six bucks and then you can fill it up with draft beer for discounted rates on Thursdays and Mondays (or Sunday, can't remember). I'm also proud to say that I completed the 'Beers Around the World' challenge. You're given a passport with 50 beers in it and you're given a year to finish them. If you do you get your name on the wall and a t-shirt. It's a fun little way of taking a couple hundred dollars out of your pocket, but I learned a hell of a lot about beer as a result and also had some great times. The atmosphere is good for a bar, it's comfortable and dark. More seating would be a plus. It IS smoky, so if you don't like smoke, you've been warned. Also, if you're one of those hipster types that think college kids suck or something like that, don't go here, or anywhere else in Lafayette for that matter. Just across the river is Purdue, and us boilermakers enjoy a couple of drinks, so if your nose automatically turns towards the sky when you see Greek letters, don't bother. Chumley's is one of my favorite bars ever and I always make the trip there when I'm in Lafayette. They've got 150 beers (50 on tap), so its worth the drive across the bridge from Purdue.

  • Juan A.

This place is awesome!!! 50 different beers on tap and 150 bottles!! The selection is soooo good!! The ambient is really cool, low dim light, good music, and amazing service!! I am a not smoker and I wasn't too trill about the idea of going to a bar where they allow smoking but I am glad I went. The smoke is not bad at all; you don't feel it in your face or can really smell it unless you're sitting next to someone smoking but even then it didn't bother me and my clothes were not stinking to smoke afterwards. I am still in my search for the bar that I will choose to make my regular destination but so far this place is in top of the list and I think it will be really hard to find something better.

  • Kristen H.

They have a TON of burgers here--honestly, that's all I'd order. (Are you really going to order a pasta dish when it's the only one they serve?) I've never had a burger I didn't like at Chumley's. Tonight I had the Mexican burger, which comes with sour cream, onion, guacamole, tomato, jalapenos, and refried beans. I was shocked at how good it was! I've had a bunch of their other burgers, too, and I was a fan. The service leaves a little something to be desired. I feel like I'm consistently annoying the servers. While we received our food, drinks, etc., quickly enough, the server seemed like she'd rather be anywhere but where she was and that coming over to our table was a big chore. Make sure everyone in your group is 21+ as they check IDs no matter where you sit or what you order.

I stopped going there because I couldn't handle the smoke. Now that they're smoke free I plan on coming by frequently. I love the beer selection and the location can't be beat. A 4 star review became 5 due to their forward thinking ban on smoking.

Beer selection is great, but it ain't cheap. Plus all the smoking that still goes on there is a major turnoff. Wish I had tried their menu other than the chips and queso when I was a college student at Purdue.

BEST burgers I've had so far in Lafayette. Great assortment of burgers (peanut butter, texas, green olives & cheddar). They have many different burgers so if you feel like trying something new this is a great place to go. Do NOT go if you absolutely hate the smell of smoke. This is a smoking atmosphere. If you want a place to watch a game or games and have good burgers this is the place to go. It is popular during games. Daily drink specials. Service has been very friendly & prompt. So far this is one of my favorite places in Lafayette.

Great for a sports bar which I am not usually a fan of. Lots of beer. Decent food. They have lots of weird combinations of burgers. (Peanut butter burger?) Staff has always been friendly and service prompt.

Great place to grab a bite and a drink. Food is always good and drinks are moderately priced. Thursday's are always super busy so if you want a table get there early.

I wouldn't think I'd like a sports bar, but I really like Chumley's. The beer selection is huge. The vibe is pretty friendly, and it's been a good place to catch up with people when in town. If I still smoked, it would get five stars, but because I don't the air gets a little thick and unbearable after awhile. So, four stars.

I am *not* of the Sports Tribe(tm). I'm a beer geek, gaming geek, and sci-fi/fantasy nerd. Sports suck. Sorry. So I don't usually go to sports bars. Ever. Buuuut... Chumley's had Left Hand Milk Stout on NITRO TAP. And their craft tap selection is actually pretty damn good. So, it's a place I can tolerate, due to the craft tap selection, and in spite of the College Bro/sports atmosphere. Haven't tried the food ever.

Meh. This place has a great beer selection and decent food, but there are so many drawbacks about the place that their rating deserves nothing more than two stars. Here's why: 1) Price. On all levels, this place is way too expensive for what you're getting. Food is good, but nothing to write home about. Beer selection: yeah, there's a lot of them, but 4.75 a pint? Where are we? Chicago? Only 9Irish is more expensive in Lafayette, and they have MUCH better food, service, and amenities (keep reading). 2) Be aware, their draft beers are NOT COLD. I've had three Sierra Nevada pale ales on three separate occasions, as well as several others, and every time, they were served at just below room temp. Hey Chumley's: you're doing it wrong! (their beer lines are most likely not cooled [i.e. cheap asses], meaning if the tap hasn't been poured from recently and frequently, the beer is going to be warmed up from sitting in the line.) 3) Stick-up-the-ass servers and bartenders. Seriously, wtf? if there is still 1/2 liquid in my glass, do not ask me if I want another one, and do not act all mad if I say "I'm good for now." Chances are, YES, I will want another one, WHEN I'M GOOD AND READY. Even if there is nobody else sitting at the bar and the place is half empty, they will expect you to purchase a constant flow of drinks and food, and if you don't, they give you the stink eye. 4) General unfriendliness. As others have mentioned, the owner is a complete dick. I've had multiple friends get overcharged on their credit cards, and when they disputed it, owner acted like it wasn't his problem. It's really too bad. Chumley's could be a great place with its many televisions and beer selection (plus I like the fact that you can still smoke in there. I don't smoke cigs, but I like a good cigar, and I believe in personal freedoms. Don't like it? Don't go in), but there is just so much BS you have to put up with when you go here.

When I went to Purdue I was sort of a regular here. I'm not sure if they still have the "Around the World Beer Club" or not, but that was pretty cool. Basically you got a "passport" that had 50 beers in it. You had to drink one of each in a calendar year (not very difficult). The two catches: You can't get stamps on Friday or Saturday, and can't have more than 5 in one night. Of course I would have opted to go a few times and have 7 or 8 beers (which would be pretty expensive because you're drinking mostly imports and micros) and knock it out quickly, but it doesn't work that way. If you're a beer conossieur, you'll dig this place. Plus it has great food. I used to be listed on a plaque for the beer club, but I heard that they took it down (I'd take away 1/4 of a star if I could...) IF you're a more "mature" college student and want something a bit more laid back, this is the place to go.

Pro's-Decent food, huge HUGE beer selection, keeps the other good bars in downtown free of its clientele. Con's- Atmosphere, Crowd is very similar to the college bars across the river, Service is similar to college bars across the river, loud horrible music similar to college bars across the river. If these things float your boat, you'll like it. It is a bit better than the bars across the river, but it really isn't my thing.

This is the best bar in the area; I'm here literally all the time, especially when it's baseball season. (They show most games!) Their beer selection is amazing and they have wonderful drink specials. They even have more vegetarian food options now, which I couldn't be happier about!

  • Megan C.

The food is ok. It's a sports bar. There is a huge selection of beer and a lengthy cocktail list, but it is really nothing too special. It was more fun when they had a pool table. The burgers are the best bet food wise.

So. Many. Beers. If you are a beer freak, this is your place. You could probably go a whole year without trying the same beer twice.

I had never been to Lafayette before, and I found this place by accident last week when I came to town for a football game. They have about any beer you'd ever want and quite a few that you never will. The burger menu is huge and includes such items as a peanut butter and jelly burger. I've seen those at a couple of other places before, but I've never eaten one, and I wasn't going to start there. I had what was listed as a "Michigan burger," which included green olives and cheddar cheese. I don't know what was particularly Michigan about it, but it was a good burger. We sat at the bar to watch the Georgia v Boise State game, so the service was close at hand and good. The noise level isn't too bad; it was about what you'd expect at a sports bar on a Saturday night. Smoking is still allowed, so you should consider that if it bothers you. It's in walking distance of the Holiday Inn, which has its own bar, but it isn't very good and costs too much. I will not likely ever have a reason to return to Lafayette, but if I do, I'd go back to Chumley's.

I have only been here twice, but I honestly wish I frequented this place a little more. The first night I went was Schooner night. That was a lot of fun, there is nothing like getting wasted without spending a lot of money! The second time I went was on Wednesday night when they have $5 martinis. I tried the caramel apple one, which reminded me of those caramel apple suckers! Yum! The food here is pretty good, considering it's bar food. If you become bored with the bars near campus, definitely check out Chumley's!

One of the nicest pubs in Lafayette. Good food, a large selection of draft and bottled beers, and a nice atmosphere. The restaurant is well lit, clean, and the service is usually good. The appetizer and drink specials make coming out mid week even better. Offering more specials on other days may bring others out on those nights too. Some of the menu items are way overpriced for the size and quality of the food ( i.e. - small salad for $9.00 - no meat, just the small salad). Also, I do wish they would allow some of their many, many TVs to be available for channels other than sports. It seems that having 15 TVs on one game and 15 TVs on another game, and numerous other TVs on other games, they could have a few TV meet the interests of those not interested in sorts. We were sitting in the back corner and there were 8 TVs we could see and two we could see but no one else could, but they would not allow the channels of those TVs to be on anything but the sports games on all the other TVs. Whose needs are being met here?

Being a senior at Purdue, I tend to enjoy my nights out as frequently as possible. But, I've also realized that I'm getting pretty close to grandma status, in that I'm not as inclined to tolerate crowds at campus bars as well as I used to when I just turned 21. That being said, I've been venturing out more frequently to the bar scene in downtown Lafayette. The first time I went to Chumley's was about a month ago on a Friday night, and it was awesome! So awesome, that I've been there every week since. The drink specials were fair, my group of 5 got a nice table, the music was good, and the serve was quick. It was the perfect way to catch up with some friends in a fun yet comfortable atmosphere. Pros: - No wait for seating - It wasn't overly crowded - Fairly priced drink specials (I especially enjoyed the $4.25 Three olives mixers!) - Good music Cons: - Because it's not on campus I don't run into as many of my friends...but hey it's always fun to meet new people! From what I've heard the food is nice too, and Scooner night is a good time and reasonably priced. Those will be the next things on my agenda to try at Chumley's!

  • Alex C.

Chumleys always had the neighborhood hideout feel that was a stark departure from the campus bar scene. It seemed more local, more (relatively) upscale and just less chaotic, but still busy. Their selection is one of the best in town!

  • Hayley B.

While I wouldn't return for the food, I would definitely go back for more of the 300 shots! ;-)

I love the atmosphere, the beer selection is the best in town I suggest people try the Magic Hat. The rest of the drink menu is solid. The prices are a little on the high side. The food is pretty weak, I would avoid it if your not starving.

Is Chumley's any good? The answer depends on what you're looking for. If you want a bar to transition out of the club-like atmosphere of West Lafayette bars, Chumley's may be the place for you. The music isn't terribly loud, and the beer selection is a huge step up from your regular domestics. Schooner nights on Mondays and Thurdays bring in that college-bar feel though, to give a hint of both the college and post-college bar. If you want food, Chumley's is going to let you down. The four star beer selection is matched by two star food preparation. The pizza is sub-par, the hot-dog buns taste a bit stale, the potato skins are made with nacho cheese, there is literally no end to the food issues. My go-to option is the fried pickles, which are both special, and cheap, but even those have a lackluster quality about them. The wait staff and atmosphere are great, and after a long day of work my friends and I often head over to Chumley's, but beware if you are looking for a hearty meal.

Do I love Chumley's? Hell yes. Do I miss the great selection of beers and the terrible (in a good way) nachos? You bet. Did I once drink four schooners of bad beer in a single setting? • Al C.

This Place is amazing Monday and Thursday nights are schoner night. Great place to go that's still friendly to the smoker!

This is the best bar in the area; I'm here literally all the time, especially when it's baseball season. (They show most games!) Their beer selection is amazing and they have wonderful drink specials. They even have more vegetarian food options now, which I couldn't be happier about!

    (5)
  • Megan C.

The food is ok. It's a sports bar. There is a huge selection of beer and a lengthy cocktail list, but it is really nothing too special. It was more fun when they had a pool table. The burgers are the best bet food wise.

    (3)
  • Tom W.

So. Many. Beers. If you are a beer freak, this is your place. You could probably go a whole year without trying the same beer twice.

    (4)
  • Laurel W.

    (4)
  • Chelsea K.

  • F W.

I got a drink called the Electric Lemonade, it is pretty similar to an AMF that we have in CALI. I liked it and it was pretty cheap also! Come here to drink, there are a lot of TVs that show different games!

This Place is amazing Monday and Thursday nights are schoner night. Great place to go that's still friendly to the smoker!

This is the best bar in the area; I'm here literally all the time, especially when it's baseball season. (They show most games!) Their beer selection is amazing and they have wonderful drink specials. They even have more vegetarian food options now, which I couldn't be happier about!

Cheers!!

While I wouldn't return for the food, I would definitely go back for more of the 300 shots! ;-)

I love the atmosphere, the beer selection is the best in town I suggest people try the Magic Hat. The rest of the drink menu is solid. The prices are a little on the high side. The food is pretty weak, I would avoid it if your not starving.

  • Melissa K.

  • Bo D.

I got a drink called the Electric Lemonade, it is pretty similar to an AMF that we have in CALI. I liked it and it was pretty cheap also! Come here to drink, there are a lot of TVs that show different games!

  • Matt R.

I am kind of indifferent to this place, but I just have to say... They serve kraft mac n cheese. What's up with that?!

You know it's a good pub when the beer menu is bigger than the food menu. Typical pub food but the burgers are super yummy. Excellent !

I love the atmosphere, the beer selection is the best in town I suggest people try the Magic Hat. The rest of the drink menu is solid. The prices are a little on the high side. The food is pretty weak, I would avoid it if your not starving.
