I ate dinner at this charming little diner back when I first moved to Huntington and then didn't see it again until fairly recently- we visited when Johnny's closed down for a holiday weekend. Very thankful we did- "The Post" is a cozy, friendly little place that deserves five stars not only for the awesome breakfast food (best sausage gravy and biscuits in town now that Bob Evans is gone, and possible even before that!) and surprisingly generous refills on the coffee. There's a nice selection of omelettes, supposedly the "best pancakes ever!" (will need to try those soon) and some of the friendliest waitresses I've ever encountered. This place has a genuine vibe that makes it one of my absolute favorite places to start my day.

Stopped in for lunch, ordered the PJ Special. Fantastic! Great atmosphere, great service, great food, great dining experience! The service is always welcoming and friendly, I would recommend to anyone in from out of town or in the area. Worth the trip even if you are not in the area!
I have are at this restaurant many many rimes. There food is always too notch, and I honestly don't really care for pizza. The location is small and quaint and when a train rolls by the place shakes which is pretty cool. They have a nice out door patio to site at during the summer. My only complaint was that my service was slow, and it was a slow day at an off time. If my server would have been more attentive this would have a 5 star visit
Pizza has unique crispy crust. Bacon chicken ranch amazing. Order breadsticks no matter what. If you can, sit outside 15 ft from fast moving trails coming thru town. Lots of old train pics.

The Rusty Dog Irish Pub

32 N Jefferson St

As is often the case, the key to a great restaurant meal is knowing the chef's best dishes. We're coming closer with every meal we have here. Tonight was smoked pork chop with apple confit (absolutely delicious), french fries (still wonderful) and grilled zucchini. My husband enjoyed the grilled rainbow trout, baked potato and broccoli. Lots of great beers on tap, full bar. Only one brand of wine by the glass, Wicked, pretty good but stick with the beers. We'll keep updating as we have opportunities to eat here.
The Rusty Dog is a charming Irish themed pub inside a local historical landmark. By far my favorite place in town! "The 'Dog" (as affectionately called by locals) is a warm, inviting pub fashioned in tribute to the owner's travels across Ireland, and the slew of antiques and old framed photography (or paintings) of dogs fill up the walls, creating a delightfully engaging atmosphere. If you eat here, you -have- to get up and check out the treasures on the walls. (there are intriguing stories behind some of them!) There is consistently an EXCELLENT array of beers on tap (15) and some in bottles (Gumballhead and Brother Thelonius, among others), including many that cannot be found elsewhere in town, plus a half dozen rotating micro-brews, which often boast hard to locate high gravities, good local ales and seasonal favorites. The bartenders have a great deal of experience and enjoy what they do- and the dessert drinks are to die for. (try the Rusty Dog cocktail!) The food is out of this world. The sandwich baskets feature an array of dog themed toppings that be applied to the juiciest half pound chuck you'll have anywhere, grilled chicken, turkey, portobella cap, black bean or grilled/breaded pork. The joy of coming in to eat here means that I can have a black bean burger loaded with sauteed veggies one day, and the next buy my favorite burger- the Bluetick (melted bleu crumbles with crispy bacon.) The entrees are also great- the fish basket (with handmade beer batter) is to die for, and the shepherds pie, "pigs and clover" feature and sesame encrusted tuna (seared to medium-rare) are other gems worth trying out. Other perks? -- house made red wine vinaigrette dressing, carefully created soups and the best coleslaw I have EVER had (it has bacon!) The list could go on, but I'll leave it up to you to decide to visit based on what I've said. Carve out an evening and try out this place! Huntington is lucky to have it, and it certainly draws the community together in excellent ways. :)
Good food. If you have kids under age you will have to sit on small restaurant side. Very quaint, love the decor! Food is really good and so are the drinks! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Clean fun atmosphere. Would definitely come back.

Best known for tenderloin. Home made pies. Small town, traditional diner atmosphere with historic local pics on the walls. I haven't tried anything other than the tenderloin but keep going back for that.
Super tender and a perfect crunch on these hubcap sized tenderloin sandwiches!! The fresh handcut French fries were superb as well.
We are breaded tenderloin sandwich fans and have tried many throughout the Midwest. Nick's sandwich is one of the best we have had. The original sandwich is big enough for two to share and so is an order of their excellent fries. The ambience is 'hometown diner" and the staff is friendly and engaging. Nick's Kitchen is well worth a trip to downtown Huntington!

Service: on point Food: on point Plating: on point Beers: on point I live in Chicago and would definitely come back. Had the fried green tomatoes, side salad, sirloin with brick house Mac and cheese and bourbon pecan pie. Produce quality was amazing, sirloin was cooked at a perfect mid-rare, Mac and cheese was rich and pasta was not over cooked! Pecan pie had a buttery flaky crust and was not and over processed with corn syrup and flour, quite flavorful! Beer selection on tap was great! Yum!
Wow! Staying in a nearby small town for work that has only 1 decent restaurant & it's not open tonight. Drove 18 miles to get here & I would drive twice that! Excellent food, outstanding martinis & fantastic service! We both had bi-polar martinis which are honestly one of the best cocktails I've ever had & I live in Detroit. The mushroom Swiss burger was cooked perfectly as ordered, juicy & flavorful. Hand cut fries & kettle chips were both very tasty. Friend had the Southern Gentleman (pulled pork sandwich) & though messy was described as finger licking good! Wish we had room to try dessert! Will definitely be back for our next business trip!
Awesome waitresses. How do you cook a softball sized steak perfectly? Fish and chips were perfectly breaded and tasty. King crab mac and cheese could use some king crab chunks. All I all 4 on 5. Hope you give them a try over the rusty dog first.

Johnny’s Drive Inn

This is Huntington. I no longer live in Huntington but Johnny's is my first stop on returns. Days long ago it was a Drive-in just like you would see in the 1950's based tv shows and movies. This was, is, the real deal, although they haven't offered curb service for many years. They have the same menu as always which is fine with most everyone that dines there. It's small and everyone will know your name. It's the Cheers of diners. You can't get any more homestyle that this place. You can plan your week by the daily specials. If you get there on grilled tenderloin day bun that baby up. YUM. I was shocked to see some college kids homing in on this place during my last visit but it's a good idea on their part. Prices are right and serving sizes are from 40 years ago, so you won't have to start adding holes to your belt. I don't think they have any fancy coffee, but you can order a cup and they will keep it warm for you by topping it off. You get what you pay for here and its fair. If you order biscuits and gravy, meatloaf, etc... they are preparing it from their recipes not opening a frozen pouch. When ordering dinner you may even get green beans, corn, or peas. The food is very basic and its the same it's been for about 60 years. Thank you Davis family and Monte especially for keeping this gem going. Go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and don't forget a piece of pie!!

A standard Subway location. The staff is friendly and always fast at making my sandwich. I go here often as it is close to my work and a healthier alternative to other fast food locations. Their bread and vegetables are always fresh and they do not skimp on veggies.

Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant

Excellent Mexican Cuisine, very friendly staff! This is by far the very best Mexican dining in Huntington!
In the middle of nowhere, hungry, without a snickers bar. I searched for nearby grub as we coasted down the country highway. This place came up and we pulled in about five minutes afterwards. Dust and trucks surrounded this place but the owners made some decent curb appeal, making the place seem inviting. We ordered classic burritos and a side of rice, one order of beans. Babe had little to no meat. The flavor was almost nonexistent. The service was ok considering the boisterous children running amuck. We left, hunger subsiding. Stop here if it's necessary.
This restaurant feels far from authentic. They put lettuce in their tacos and the meat is not seasoned well. The salsa has no spice. It basically tastes like they put diced tomatoes in a blender. They do have very good beans and excellent customer service. They messed up on my order and fixed it right away.

Z-Place Pizza

The Pizza is amazingly awesome! Absolutely the best thin crust pizza in town! A little pricy, but great taste!
I called to order a large half pepperoni and half ham pizza. They were charing this as a two topping pizza. When asked how this was a 2 topping pizza and got no responce. I cancelled the order and went else where.
Life long fan of Z-Place pizza - went in this week and had the worst experience. We ordered 2 pizzas right after the table beside us who ordered 3 pizzas. They got their order 30+ minutes before us. Other tables that came in 20-30 minutes after us got their pizza 5-10 minutes before us. Not happy about the wait, but the pizza is always worth the wait. Then we got our pizza, no apologies for the delay and the crust was not even crisp and hard to cut. The owner was running the show - not happy about the decline in quality nor the poor service by the owner. We also had family that was at Pizza Junction at the same time with great service. Next Time, Pizza Junction. After 30+ years of Z-Place pizza they are now dead to me.
