Nice older cafeteria style where you grab a tray and slide it down the rails and choose the items you want to eat. The fried chicken is very good. Lots of choices from sides, salads, main dishes, and desserts. Some foods are homemade in house. Serving sizes are small to average and prices are a bit high for the serving size, but overall a nice place for lunch or dinner. The place seems to be about the same as it was 30 years ago, although I think the food was better back then. For cafeteria style dining, its worth eating here.

We broke our traditional thanksgiving and decided to eat out and save everyone from the dreaded kitchen duty!! What a wonderful dinner we had at this cafeteria and while I know it's usually served cafeteria style, it was a huge buffet on thanksgiving and there was simply everything you could have wanted from the traditional salads, pumpkin pie and turkey to nifty little dessert shooters (the tiramisu flavor was fantastic!)! I would most certainly go back and especially for this holiday - just make sure you make reservations!!

Was not impressed. Website boast of a feast. My kids school cafeteria had a bigger selection. Didn't even have rolls. It was cramped and food was good but not worth what they charge. I'll stick with Gray brothers always worth the occasional wait.

We had Jonathan Byrd's cater to my work and I thought well this is decent average food. I decided by mistake to get in my time machine and go t0 Jonathan Byrd's. I got the turkey Manhattan and wanted a salad. I was informed that this could not be a side and would be the dreaded and insanely stupid add on. My bill for a small lunch was $14.00. This is completely insane. The food has about a pound of salt for a 1/2 pound of food. It was disgusting. I would compare this meal to the equivalent of truck stop food or about the same quality of McDonalds. If you eat here, just eat the fried chicken because the rest is garbage. For a real version of this concept try going to Grey Brothers. It is a half hour or more outside of Indy, but when I am paying $14.00 I want food made with high standards, not low end food that Jonathan Byrd's is so proud of serving. My recommendation is if you have a choice of eating a gas station hot dog that has been sitting there for 5 hours or Jonathan Byrd's, I would go with the hot dog. If you are bored of chain restaurants and think for yourself and are not manipulated by millions of dollars in TV commercials to make yourself believe you have to eat average to below average overpriced food at some chain restaurant, I am one of you. Let's all keep supporting the true food scene in Indiana.

This place is extremely overpriced. The food isn't good enough to charge people that much. Not to mention you usually have to wait in line forever because the teenage staff doesn't want to actually work and not mess around. Never going back.

Food = 3 Price = 3 Experience = 3 food is very average at best... not impressed at all.

Well, let's start off by saying that between the front door and our table, I experienced no fewer than four rank smells that permeated the area. One in the vestibule hallway, one at the start of the serving line, one near the cashier, then the final one in the dining area. The dining area was very much a similar smell to a nursing home's dining room. 'Nuff said. As for the food, well, it was OK. The fried chicken was tender and tasty... everything else was WAY over salted, but otherwise tasteless. For what was received, the price seemed high -- Cracker Barrel is a far better option... more food, higher quality, lower price, better service. I can now say I've experienced an Indiana cafeteria... I won't be rushing back to that experience, either!

It's best days are long gone. Recently our family made a visit after, say 25 years? I can't remember but seriously its been that long. The oak woodwork and expanse of this place says I am... or, was, good and profitable once upon a time. Today it is mediocre food in a mile long cafeteria line that really stands out nowhere. Well, maybe if you have a busload of 50 senior citizens and need to dine now without a reservation- this is your place! Me thinks it will die a long slow death.

Absolutely disgusting. I wanted MCL but there isn't one in Greenwood so we tried this place. The food was horribly bland, and barely room temperature. My husband couldn't even eat most of it. The rolls must have been days old. Hardly any selection and overpriced for the quality. Most of the vegetables were all dried up. Stay away!

This was a terrific stop on or road trip to Florida. The kids loved it and the food was very good home cooking. not the healthiest choice, probably, but it was a great slice of Americana. Don't miss it

Tasty food but appears to be crashing slowly. We had trouble finding the entrance as the old entrance has closed. The food was really good but a bit pricey. A great experience but I think their hay day is over :-(

A great place to catch lunch when you are hungry. Large portions and friendly service. They have specials to save you some $$; you can spend a lot here if you don't watch out (I think that's the point).

This used to be a great cafeteria-style restaurant, but not anymore. The big building is now closed and the big line with yummy home-style cooking has been reduced to "the more intimate setting next door." That meant far fewer choices, cold, overpriced, and oversalted food, and uncomfortable tables crammed into what used to be the bakery. Do yourself a favor and miss this.

I had my wedding reception here and everything was perfect - we were so happy with the food and service! And a bonus is that there is NO alcohol available here (a plus when there are alcoholics in the family). Love their food, their fried chicken, vegetable soup (very simple but delicious), and ho-ho cake are wonderful. I sure miss the low-fat banana split brownies they used to sell in their to-go section. :(

This place is ok, but not as good as other cafeterias in Indiana. However, their desserts are pretty good. My wife especially likes their Toll House cookie pie. Their prices are comparable to other cafeterias. The banquet facilities are decent for special occasions.

As a first time customer to this place, I was really disappointed. The food was okay, the prices weren't low, and any refills and seconds weren't included. Their floors were sticky and they didn't have a proper changing table for young ones -- just a big cushion and a small bar on the counter by the sinks. Their deviled eggs were decently good though.

This place sucks... Over priced,an the food was cold... How hard is it to make good sweet tea. It wouldn't post without one star an they don't deserve that!!!!!!!

I like the Express section. I can get food to go. Good food not the fast food stuff.

Jonathan Byrd's is cafeteria food done right. A large group of family left very satisfied and raving about how good our meal was. We had about a dozen people and had excellent service and a great experience. If you've never been, it's time you go and if it's been awhile it's time you go back! I had the chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, and turnip greens and everything was quite good. The Toll House pie was good but next time I'll try something else. Plenty to choose from and a very fair price for good Hoosier-style family favorites.

Love the chicken & noodles... and the turkey gravy cannot be beat.

We haven't been here in a while, but it is good every time we go. The food is like my grandma made. Home cooking and very delicious. It can be a little on the expensive side which is why we don't go as often as we would like. You can usually find a discount on restaurant.com .
