    So I finally got to go here courtesy of a client visit. We had reservations (Wednesday night) but it wasn't busy at all. The place is in the basement of the library in downtown Greenfield - odd but gives it some charm. It is a bit dark and they were blasting some Christmas tunes a tad louder than I'd prefer, but overall it has a nice ambiance. They have a limited menu, which is fine with me. They have a nice variety in said menu, with an assortment of poultry and hooves to select from. Also have a few vegetarian/sea options as well. I selected a special they had that night which was a penne pasta with beef and vegetables. It was alright, but nothing mind-blowing. I ordered the house salad as an opening meal and it is strange. They roll it up and wrap it with a cucumber - I mean it looks okay but you couldn't add any extras this way so it was just greens, no other veggies or cheese. My client was highly confused and had to look to me as to the proper way to chop the puppy up. They have bread and oils on the table - which was warm and yummy. The service was slooowwwww. Not sure why given it wasn't packed, but we got there at 6:00pm and didn't leave until 8:30pm. We did order dessert, which the ice cream was really tasty (avoid the pie - it had that canned filling taste - ick), but the wait for it to arrive was a very long time. Overall, if you have a special event (bday or anniversary), I think it is a nice change of pace - especially for Greenfield. The prices weren't too bad at all, so don't let that deter you. I'd give it a try but if you want something super fancy and special just head to Indy.

    AMAZING!!! I stayed down the street at the Hampton Inn and wanted a good meal, not a "Chain" and was BLOWN away by Carnegie's! The employees are very nice, the food is incredible and the atmosphere is very relaxing. It has a great deal of character. You won't be disappointed if you want a good / clean / relaxing atmosphere that has AMAZING food. It is very healthy and clean.

    My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here tonight. We considered various restaurants in downtown Indy, but decided to eat here after reading many reviews that proved to be accurate! We both started with the Cream of Red Pepper soup, upon recommendation of our server and previous reviews. It did not disappoint! Each bite seemed to get better! For our entrees, my husband had the beef tenderloin medallions and I had the filet mignon. I would rate this better than most of the steaks I have had at the big name steakhouses downtown. The sauce was flavorful, but not overpowering. We again took the house recommendation and had the creme brûlée for dessert. Delicious! My husband commented before we left that he is looking forward to our next visit back due to their seasonal menu.

    I'd had a rough day previous to this visit and had "enjoyed" Subway for lunch while on a work assignment for Monday & Tuesday, so I was hoping to find a unique and tasty place in Greenfield, IN. I'm ever so thankful for Yelp reviewers and the recommendations about Carnegie's! I arrived unannounced and was seated after a short wait. There were two waitresses and only three groups dining, but no one seemed to be scheduled as hostess so the two waitresses were attempting to run both jobs? Being in the basement of a former library, it was dim, although I enjoyed the ambiance and table arrangement as I was seated. I was given a bread bowl with soft, multigrain bread that had a solid crust with large salt crystals. Quite tasty when paired with the extra virgin olive oil + pepper combo I mixed on my hors de vours plate. After reviewing the Yelp recommendations and my own personal likes, I ordered the roasted red pepper soup, duck breast, and a glass of Merlot. I must concur that everyone who suggests the roasted red pepper soup is spot on! It was delicious and did have a very slight burn (which I loved!). The duck breast was sliced on top of a combination of kale (although I swear this was collards due to the lack of curly leaves), bell peppers, and golden raisins with an apricot wine sauce accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes. I ate the whole dish and savored every bite! :-) I'm not sure if it was my order or the limited number of guests, but the chef came out and checked with me about my meal as well. I mentioned that I'd read about this place on Yelp and also told him that it lived up to all the good reviews others had posted! IF I'm ever in the area again, I won't hesitate to stop by Carnegie's. Absolutely delicious and a welcome change to my traveling restaurant experience!

    My husband and I attended a concert in Greenfield and wanted someplace non-chainy to eat. After some online searching, my husband found Carnegie's. It's set off the main street (US-40) in a former library. The upstairs is a banquet hall; the basement is where the restaurant is located. The ambiance is a little lacking. It's nice, but dated - all the dark green, maroon and ivy decor harkens back to 1993. I'd redo it in a turn-of-the-century sort of style, with Edison lamps and whatnot, but that's just me. They had their satellite radio tuned to the Coffeehouse station; one of my favorites. The service was impeccable. I suppose this could have been been because we were the first to arrive that evening, but both ladies that waited on us were personable and professional without seeming forced or snooty. I got the roasted red pepper soup on the suggestion of our server(s)... they even let me try a generous sample. It's somehow light and filling at the same time, and the bread they served tastes fantastic with it. I went with the crab cakes appetizer as my meal. They were decently sized and cooked well. Nothing amazing in the way of flavor, but they were pretty good. My husband went with the beef medallions. They were cooked to perfection - medium rare - but the gravy was a little salty and overwhelming. I'd ask for it on the side next time. Carnegie's is a nice dining experience that doesn't take itself too seriously. I'd suggest it if you're in Greenfield and worn out on O'Charleys.

    Usually we celebrate the night before the 500 at Ruth Chris, Eddie Merlot, or the old Keystone Grill but for the first time in almost 20 years we decided to change things up and try a local establishment. Carnegies is a hidden gem in Greenfield's former library. Great food and great service!! The roasted red pepper soup lived up to it's prior reviews, but the Mediterranean salad was outstanding. Our group tried three different entrees and everyone thought theirs was better than the others. I had the ribeye which was perfectly cooked and joined with a fresh vegetable mix and an amazing twice baked potato. Ruth who? Deserts were great, gelato was excellent and I heard the chocolate cake, gelato, and brûlée trio was also very good. We will return!!

    We have been wanting to try this restaurant for years but are usually in town visiting family and don't get a chance- this time we came a day early, mostly to give Carnegie's a try! First of all- do NOT use the Yelp app on your iPhone to use directions to find this restaurant- it took us to the middle of a farm field- very out of the way. I think it thought the restaurant was on 100 St. and not North St. Very frustrating. The website recommended reservations and we made them yesterday and left a message- we appreciated that they explained the process very well on their message- you give your name, date, time and number in your party and leave your phone number and they'll only call you back if they need to adjust your reservation. Their hours are pretty limited- open for dinner 5-9 Tuesday-Saturday. My husband thought the building was really neat and that it was cool that it used to be a Carnegie library. The entrance to the restaurant is to the side of the building- I think they have a banquet hall part on the top floor and they seem to do a lot of big parties. I was very disappointed because the menu on their website listed a bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin with risotto and I was looking forward to that for weeks, but when we got there it wasn't on the menu and the person who seated us seemed to not know what it was. I hate when websites are incorrect. This is a very pricey restaurant and if you're a picky eater like I am it's disappointing to be surprised that the item you wanted is not on the menu. I ordered the red pepper soup which I read about on Yelp and I LOVED it. It was perfectly delicious. I would order it every time I came here if we lived in the area. My husband had the special soup which today was a roasted vegetable soup with local farm chicken, wild rice and a "peppered spinach garnish". He really liked it. The soups went well with the herbed focaccia bread (my husband like the thick pieces and I liked the thin crispy toast ones). My husband ordered the chicken on the menu- breast with artichokes and tomatoes in a creamy sauce with a side of mushrooms and sliced sweet potatoes- he really enjoyed it. I ordered the beef medallions which I didn't realize was the mainstay of the menu. The beef was very tender but also seemed very seasoned with pepper. It came with green beans with tomatoes and onions in a red wine sauce. The whipped potatoes were delicious. My meal was good but I think I would order something else next time. Our server was nice and stayed in good touch with us. She told us about the dessert menu (they don't have a printed menu) and we ended up choosing the dessert sampler that had one of their house-made gelatos (we chose poached pear- my husband found it surprisingly delicious), a tiny warm chocolate cake with ice cream on top and a strawberry, and then a mini CREME BRULEE. I did not know that I would ever like creme brulee but I LOVED it- it was truly delectable. I loved the crisp sugary top and the creamy filling. We are already planning to stop by tomorrow night again to get a full size order. Wow. They said it's their featured dessert. (Without realizing it, I ordered their three main menu items- the pepper soup, beef medallions, and creme brulee!) The restaurant is large with many tables. It's pretty but did not feel super fancy in its decor (though the menu is fancy). Though only four other tables were filled when we were there, it was surprisingly loud. We had a nice table for two on the back wall which we liked, but we had to stop talking each time someone got more ice from the ice machine because we couldn't hear each other over the ice! We liked the music playing- it kind of felt like they took it right off of our iPod! :) They had a piano but no one was playing it the Friday night we were there. This is one of the most expensive dinners we have had but it's definitely worth it with the quality of food for a special occasion. It's really neat that it is in Greenfield- I hope they do great business!

    While visiting back home, I was looking for a non-chain date night spot and was fortunate to find Carnegies on here. Perfect all around. Service: I called for a reservation outside of business hours and was shocked to quickly receive a text confirming they got my message and our reservation was set. Our server Brittney was amazing...she had a professional yet fun personality that made our experience better than expected. Very knowledgeable and helpful with menu options as well. The owner/chef came around and spoke with each table...something rare these days but was much appreciated. Food/Drinks: Decent wine and beer selections, happy with all our choices. As far as our dinner, my lovely date went with the cream of red bell peppers soup and stuffed chicken breast...very good. I went with the potato soup and ribeye. Although I'm a filet guy and this isn't a cut of meat I typically select, the flavor was impressive and cooked to perfection...I'd order again without hesitation. We had our server select two desserts to take home with us and they definitely hit the spot once we got home and dove in. All around: The restaurant and location are unmatched. Forget the chain restaurants and definitely check out Carnegies. The small town charm, friendly staff (which even included a young woman playing the piano) and unique history of the library definitely set this place apart from other dining locations. No question, I highly recommend checking this place out!

    Below is a copy of an email that I sent to the link on Carnegie's web site on October 29th. Have always enjoyed the food there but so disappointed in their lack of response to my concerns. I have not heard back from them, so they ignored my message about the reservation and also my feedback to their website. This is a 5 star restaurant with 1 star reservations. "I am writing to let you know how disappointed we are in your reservation service. I called your restaurant this past Friday night about 7:00 PM to make reservations for the following day (Oct 26) for myself, my husband & another couple for 5:45 PM. I got your answering machine & listened where you said we would only receive a call back if there was a problem with the reservation. I left my name, number of people, time & my home phone number. We drove from Plainfield (40 miles - 1 way) & arrived at our reserved time but found the door locked with a note on it. My husband walked upstairs and two ladies came out to tell us the restaurant was closed for a private party. To say we were disappointed was an understatement. We love your restaurant and have been going there for probably 15 years. Even though we moved away we try to visit at least twice a year. Please look into another way to confirm reservations. Driving across town through construction on I70 could & should have been avoided by a return call. " B Stader

    I can't believe I've lived within 20 minutes of this place for over 5 years and it's taken me this long to try it! Yes, it's pricey so I won't be able to go as much as I'd like but I would consider it a bargain compared to most high end restaurants in downtown Indianapolis. For about $80 not including tip, we each got an entree, a salad or soup & 2 glasses of wine/beer (each). My husband read up on the place and told me all the reviews of the Cream of Roasted Red Bell Pepper soup, so I had to try it! He opted for a salad, once I tried the soup I was fearful he would be jealous he didn't get it, but his salad was a work of art in it's own. My hubs, a notorious 'ranch' man went with the house dressing and he was more than pleased! From my understanding they continuously change their menu, so when we went my husband had a pork chop smothered with roasted veggies and a balsamic dressing - delish! I went with a cedar planked salmon with a butter sauce - AMAZING! I hope this is still on the menu when I come back in a month for my birthday! I can not give them enough praise!

    There is this amazing high end restaurant called Carnegie's in Greenfield that I went to tonight. What?!?! No, Seriously. The food is incredible. It's located in the basement of the old Carnegie Library in downtown Greenfield. And it's in Greenfield?!?! Yeah, that's what I just said...twice. Chef Harrison's Cream of Roasted Red Bell Pepper soup is the dish you will hear everyone talk about. And for good reason, it's an outstanding soup. He always keeps an interesting selection of beers and wines on hand. I had a Unibroue 'La Fin du Monde' and I can say that's a new favorite. Ok, but what about the main entree. Oh man, I had the Grilled Beef Tenderloin Medallions. The red wine herb sauce was to die for. There wasn't a drop left when I was done, it got wiped up with the delicious table bread. Sounds like you didn't have room for dessert. You would be incorrect. The first word out of the waitress' mouth was, cheesecake. My stomach said, "noooo don't do it". But my brain said, "did she say covered in berries?". I'm a self confessed cheesecake fanatic and this one did not disappoint at all. It wasn't as heavy as most cheesecakes can be, it was the perfect balance. Oh! And there were red raspberries, black raspberries and strawberries on top! I'd go just for dessert. Well, I'm convinced. Are they open tomorrow?

    I went for lunch and LOVED it. I prefer any restaurant, hotel, home or other edifice that is vintage. I always choose character over brand new. The simple touches like the vintage salt and pepper shakers and the wooden spoons with numbers (rather than a red plastic upside down 'v' sign) to identify the table where food should be delivered--absolutely charming. I had the grilled vegetable sandwich and the cream of roasted red pepper soup--simply divine. If I lived in Greenfield, or if I'm ever in the area, I doubt I could be persuaded to eat anywhere else.

    Stopped on a drive from Chicago to Dayton. Very nice place to stop for rest and a meal. Food was fabulous Specially marinated beef, delicious soup and homage desserts. Highly recommended.

    Fine dining in Greenfield? The best red pepper soup I've ever had in Greenfield? You've got to be kidding, right? Nope, Carnegie's is located in the basement of a library with a fantastic craft beer menu and lots of locally sourced food. The servers are friendly and helpful at deciding the best dish for you. I also really enjoyed that the chef came out of the kitchen and knew which dishes we ordered and asked about them specifically! When you come to Carnegie's you get great service and a great meal that is worth the drive. I highly recommend the red pepper cream soup and the duck. Both were fantastic and I hope to come back soon!

    This place would be awesome if it was in downtown Indy, so it's even more surprising that it's in the middle of Greenfield. The food was delicious. Just like everyone else says, the red bell pepper soup was awesome. The steak I got was probably the most tender and perfectly cooked steak I have ever had. They put ice chips in the Manhattan I got which was a pretty cool touch. The service was top notch and everyone was super friendly. I will definitely be back.

    I've been here several times over the last few months and I have to say for a small town restaurant, this place is a gem. The service is usually pretty good with friendly staff - and the food is consistently good. My favorites are the duck and lamb, but I've never had a bad meal here. If you happen to be in Greenfield, it's worth stopping in!

    Chef Ian is an unbelievable gem! Thanks for making Greenfield a better place!!! The food is their strength, as it is on par with many well known executive restaurants. In fact, many drive in from Indy to eat at this local treasure. Prices are excellent for the quality of preparation and taste. We have yet to order a dish that disappointed, and the service is tops! Jackie, our favorite, is an asset to a great place to eat. Yes, the Cream of Roasted Red Bell Pepper soup is the best, but don't forget to leave room for their Creme Brulee! The best we've had anywhere! The facility is not as strong as their food. For sometime they served a lunch upstairs (on the main floor) and the evening meal in the current dining area (more of a basement). We were fans of the lunch and were going broke eating there... LOL, but they've discontinued it. I would like to see Ian make the upstairs available during their evening meals, as I liked the atmosphere better there. Try it, you'll love it!
