The Lake Shack is sort of a disaster, but the kind you don't mind pissing away a few hours at. Great hippie decor, friendly staff, and you can tell they know most of the patrons by name and beverage of choice. Now, about the food. I had a wholly unremarkable fried fish sandwich - hamburger bun, no condiments, couple of chunks of fish of shapes and sizes incongruous with the bun. The cole slaw was really quite good. My sister had a burger that was a long way from the ordered 'medium', closer to hockey puck. The real surprise were the homemade potato chips, which were fantastically prepared and seasoned and seemingly came from a different kitchen. I tried to redeem myself with a slice of pecan pie, but sadly it was unidentified custard with a thin layer of pecans on top. I'll echo a previous review: fun place to have a few drinks, but eat first (or plan to survive on potato chips).

Horrible experience! Way too loud, pushy waitress! Taco salad was ok, but the earring that was dropped in our salad was less than desirable! Waitress responded with bad day, @&#% happens! We are local but won't be back!

I have eaten here twice and I will say, right out of the gate, 1/2 visits were good. The most recent time I visited, I ordered a burger. I've had a better burger at Burger King. I see the guy next to me with seared tuna and then there's me with a frozen, processed burger. I asked for it medium and it came well done. I'm sure the menu has much more to offer and that's all I have to complain about. I WILL go back to try other items on the menu. And this brings me to my next mention about Dave's. The atmosphere is fantastic and they have just expanded to an outdoor area as well as a gift shop. The drink selection, as well as pricing, is another highlight to point out. What I will press for you to try, and I highly recommend it, is the breakfast. The first time I went to Dave's, my dad and I got breakfast and it was amazing. Don't shy away from Dave's, just don't order a burger. The atmosphere is awesome and the prices are more than fair. Also, go for breakfast. I'm serious.

The food was mediocre at best. I understand how difficult it is to cook a burger anything but well done when the burger patty goes from freezer to griddle. The outside eating area was over ran with flies; I diagnose the cause being the uncleaned tables with sticky beer residue. The decor of Dave's Lake Shack was inviting with a west coast "hippie" vibe. The service staff seemed pretty friendly as it seemed they knew the majority of patrons by name. Seemingly great place to grab a drink; eat before coming.

Hello! $6 for two ice cold big beers? Sign me up! That alone is worthy of 4 stars... Food looked great, everyone was friendly...

The fish sandwhich tasted too fishy, being from FL. I know fresh fish do not taste fishy. The house chips were good but not as good as most reviews stated, fry oil could have been a little overworked. The cold slaw was institutional. We were told their was Walleye on the menu but we couldn't find it. I can't say the food was bad but it wasn't great. Inside there were 15 tables the bldg. Looks much bigger from outside. It's just bar food, might go back wouldn't make a special trip.

Horrible experience! To start, there was only 1 other table of people when we walked in. Took 5 minutes to get menus or drink orders and it took another 55 minutes to get our food. Then once we did finally get it, it was incorrect and cold. Our waitress tried to be both the bartender and the waitress and the other waitress would not help out. Other customers came in after us and were served and left before we got our food. The second waitress also continuously entered the kitchen and cussed like a sailor. We will NEVER eat here again.

5 stars relative to the area. Best bar in Angola. $6 Mojitos in a pint glass. Make mine a double! Cheap food also.

The food and atmosphere are consistently awesome! They offer a great menu selection and reasonable prices. If you are looking for a fun place to go in the summer Dave's is it. If you are looking for a place to think about Summer and beat the winter blues, Dave's is it!

We had a pretty good time here. The place had a really fun vibe and the enchiladas were good. The server was quite helpful. We'll be back some day.

Came here while visiting my dad. Amazing food. Bf got a pepper jack burger and loved it. I got the rowdy burger....amazing. Super juicy and full of flavor. Big portions and the pickle fries were delicious. We will be back again for sure.

Dave's is one of the coolest dive bars I've ever been to. Situated on the edge of Snow Lake, Dave's offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The atmosphere is casual, with a neat vibe. Skis from the 70's, motor boat covers turned into lights, and hippie decor adorn the patio. It's eclectic, but it works. After being seated, our waitress recommended the "Painkiller" cocktail which consisted of rum, coconut, pineapple and mango juice. One drink and I could feel it. A job well done for one drink. The menu is full of typical bar food, except it is really good! I ordered a grilled cheese and side salad, and was shocked how enjoyable they both were. Anytime cheese is sprinkled over my salad, it always gets bonus points in my book. The skinny fries were pretty addicting too. Dave's is a lunch spot/bar that shouldn't be passed up when you're relaxing in the lake region.

Had lunch here with a friend. Service was VERY slow. Food was good. I had a shack burger and homemade chips. My friend had a BLT. We both had tequila sunrises. Had to request water twice. And we waited at least 30 min for food. The waitress was not attentive to us or any of her customers from my seat. We sat outside and it was very nice. Inside small and crowded. Hope service is better for you

A bit buzzed from a too-long cocktail stop at Piggy's, we arrived at Dave's as the band, rather Rob and Heidi, started playing. The music was sans amplifiers - my idea of good music! It was a mix of old time rock and roll and country. Again, just my style. We ordered off the extensive beer list while we perused the dinner menu. I decided on a burger (EXCELLENT) with very good steak fries while Steve had walleye, also excellent if you like walleye. Beer, Steve and Sweat/T-shirts are not a good mix and I now am the not-so-proud owner of a Rob & Heidi sweatshirt. It sports a really large picture of the duo on a motorcycle, a guitar and "Fun Time Music". You can imagine how subtle this is on my 3x chest. No, just don't. But it is actually a warm and comfy top so I toss a scarf over it to blot out some R&H. Sigh. We returned to Dave's for breakfast but it was 11am and we had lunch instead. I really wanted those Eggs Benedict but thoroughly enjoyed my Ruben. While not quite a gastro pub (it is Eastern Indiana after all), the food and atmosphere was well worth our two visits.

If you want to go some place that brings back to old school fod shack this is the place. The setting is on a lake known for water sking and just hanging out by. It has a hippy feel that you just can't find anymore. The service is great and the food good. They have somy different types of burgers that all sound good and taste even better. Just know this you have to be 21 or over to get in ad they do card everyone.

My girlfriend and I had a great meal here. Fun atmosphere, nice prices, halfway-decent view of Snow Lake, or at least the reeds at the shore of it.. But what really knocked me over was the lobster bisque! Oh man, I talked about that for days.

We have a family vacation every July in the Lake James area. There are usually 15 - 20 of us that have to go to Dave's for breakfast at least 3 times while we are there. The food and everything is Great. We visit my wife, Rosemary [Schlickman's] brothers Roger and Steve, cousin's John and Jane Gear, and Fred Mann. We come from California for this breakfast treat. Be sure to have your ID and don't worry about changing out of your swim suit. Lake trash is/are welcome! Great burgers and mexican food. Don't forget to have beer. Great place to rack up a $300 bar tab!
