The Culver Coffee Company

The Culver Coffee Company offers a fairly standard assortment of coffee drinks, a little loose leaf tea (more for take-home sale, not much for immediate drinking), tasty sandwiches (including breakfast) and even pizza as well as sweet desserts. The roomy lounge area offers mostly tables -- some with a nice view of Lake Maxinkuckee -- and a small couch area near a fish tank. They also sell all kinds of coffee-drinking accessories, cup-and-saucer sets, higher-end dry goods/foods, and a few surprises. Customers can even order a glass of wine. The atmosphere somewhat reflects the upper-class resort town mentality that makes up part of Culver's personality, but the many times I've wandered in, I've never felt snobbery in the least bit. I've spent plenty of time sipping their delicious house blend while working on my computer, and the clientele tends to be a wonderfully interesting mix -- society housewives, the working class folks who keep things running, the local academy instructors and students, and all kinds of people in between. Highlights include: occasional (monthly?) open mic nights, breakfast sandwiches on pretzel bread, and the water bowl for dogs out front.
First time in Culver... let's go check out the local coffee shop! Meh. I'm not sure if it's because they were trying to close or they had a busy day or whatever, but something just isn't right when you order a latte and they already have the espresso shots pulled and just sitting there waiting to be poured into a cup with some steamed milk. Half the fun of making a latte is pulling the shot and adding the steamed milk to it! Not letting the shot sit there for a while and then sort of mixing things together... the drinks were tasty anyways and they had a lot of other options. I'd be interested to try their Affogato from the little ice cream shop they have annexed to the coffee shop on some other trip to Culver. Not a bad place, but not a fancy coffee shop either.
This gourmet coffee shop is phenomenal! If you happen to be in Culver for any reason, this is a must visit kind of coffee place. In addition to wonderful coffee drinks (naturally), you'll find this place serves some pretty excellent quick food, has some special local art on the walls and local quirky souvenirs (for those who might want to take home a memory of their visit to the CCC.. In addition to this, if you are in Culver for any reason and need a fix of Internet, you'll certainly appreciate the fast, free Internet that CCC serves in addition to their great coffee. :)

my girlfriend and I went there one other time before this. The server was a female and she was absolutely terrible. it was more that a year ago and given the community, i understand. i have worked in restaurants for roughly 12 years. Mitchell's fish market, logans roadhouse, texas roadhouse, and 2 successful family owned places.this was the best sushi outside of florida that ive had in a long time. our server (i think his name was adam, bald guy with facial hair) was awesome. he had roughly 12 people directly next to us, i think it consisted of 4 kids or so. another booth with at least 2 kids and myself and my girlfriend. he was busy and he was moving fast, but he did a great job.
I ate here and was served a dried-out chicken sandwich that had obviously sat under the heat lamp for 10 minutes. Nasty stuff. Also, being from the Gulf Coast, I am accustomed to a certain zest in my food that was lacking here. The sandwich, in addition to being dry as a prune, was utterly un-seasoned.
I've been to The Lakehouse Grille twice and I'm hesitant to return a third time. The food: Amazing. One of the best quality meals you can get in the area and honestly, their prep rivals that of large cities. The burgers are great, the seafood- delicious. If you can overlook everything else for the food: do it. The reason I am compelled to give this restaurant 3 stars (and I thought about less) is the service. We've been twice, two separate seasons. Once in late spring, one in mid-February. Both times, the service was slow. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, but very slow. During our first visit, we waited quite a while for the food, which was alright as it was perfect in every way. We waited upward of 15 minutes for our check after our table was cleared during a time where the restaurant wasn't at capacity. The second time we went in mid-February, we sat in the bar section. We knew we'd wait for food and again, it was well worth the wait. Our food was delicious and we had beer as well. Our waitress came around midway through our meal to get us another round. 15 minutes go by, she doesn't return. We tagged a passing waitress to ask for help, who also didn't return. Two members of our party went o the bar to inquire about our beers and were assured they would be delivered. At this point, we are now at a half hour waiting for the drinks we ordered. As it turns out, the drinks were poured at the bar, but never delivered to us, they'd been sitting there for a half hour. The members of our party who had ordered beer got theirs and I recall being offered one on the house due to the wait, but I declined as I was the DD. Again, the check took longer than usual to get to us. I love the food at Lakehouse. It's wonderful. I love how the staff is friendly. I don't love when members of my group have to wait for something that is 20 feet from them. I've relayed this encounter to other friends who frequent Lakehouse more often than I do and I have been told many speed issues no longer exist. We may try Lakehouse again, but I don't think it will be soon.

Absolutely amazing! Came here last night and had Veal with a mushroom Gorgonzola sauce and homemade mashed potatoes and a Banana Napoleon for dessert. My server, Amy, said I should come back to try their spinach dip & the other entree I was considering: bison burger with bleu cheese on a pretzel bun, so I did. Erica and Amanda were very knowledgeable - fantastic staff & incredible food! This place is a gem worth a detour, if you're anywhere within a few hours drive!
Excellent food, great service.
I've eaten a couple times while I was in Culver. The food was excellent and the menu had a good variety of choices. The pear ravioli was unique and tasty. The salad that I had the previous night was nothing particularly special, but it was still good. The atmosphere was classier than one might expect for a small town, without being formal. Be sure to save room for dessert. I had the berry cobbler one night, and a volcano cake the next. Both were delicious and Goldilocks sized (not too big, not too small). I ended up gaining weight from my trip to Culver between Corndance, Cafe Max and Edgewater, but it was worth it.

I'll make this short. I love Papa's. The pizza, for the area, is some of the absolute best. The beer selection is perfect for beer snobs with MANY rare beers on the list (they've been known to carry Zombie Dust). The calzones are where it's at for your money. Completely customizable, and so big you can eat half there and have the rest for breakfast. Their marinara is some of the best and I savor every bite. Set on beautiful Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver, eating at Papa's in a treat no matter the season.
We ate there twice while daughter was at the academy and we really disliked the food and the service. The food was very greasy, one pizza had a pool of grease in the middle. Pasta dishes were tasteless and oily. Daughter did order pizza delivery from there frequently and liked it but, for dine in, blah.
Nice service cute decor good beer selection. Very expensive for average food. Dry pizza, dry risotto (a special), both lacking flavor. Should have gone to Corndance.

Went twice over the past week while on vacation. Both times it was delicious. They have the best philly omelet and homemade wheat bread!
We mostly go here for breakfast, and they have very good dinner style breakfast food. Their home made whole wheat toast is worthy of special mention. Lunch is also quite good. I have had their cheese steak twice, and though it may not be completely Philly-style authentic, it's yummy anyway.
Two words: Waffle Fries! One of the best places to eat in the small town of Culver. They definitely make the food with love and it's delicious!
