It was all right.. to be honest I was a bit disappointed. I just ordered sushi, which was pretty standard, good but nothing to write home about. My friends ordered meals that were prepared in front of you, the chef was skilled and entertaining! They all said they liked their food, but seriously too much food, they couldn't finish it! Also not a good choice if you're trying to be even a little bit healthy..

This is one of my favorite local places to get sushi! The servers are always nice and fast and drinks are delicious too.

This was our first visit to this japanese location. The first thing we noticed is a sign on the front greeting table saying that they are hiring a bunch of staff this restaurant is very understaffed . We decided to do the hibachi grill and left disappointed . We started with a vegetable roll that they took about 20 minutes to make for us but when brought out most of the rolls were falling apart. We both had teriyaki chicken and our hibachi chef way over salted everything . There are much better options over and louisville.

Kansai probably has some of the best tasting sushi in the area. I was particularly impressed with the simple salmon roll and the way the Yum-Yum roll was bursting with flavor. I've also eaten at the Hibachi grill and was less impressed, but I think that it had more to do with the chef having a bad day than anything else. He was still totally into it, but the onion choo choo kept collapsing, the volcano wouldn't light and little things like that caused a few hiccups that did not detract from the tastiness of the teriyaki chicken or the fried rice. The environment is great! The decor is simple, classic and dynamic with elegant panel paintings that provide an air of sophistication while breaking up the vibrant orange walls. The lighting is subdued and intimate with the occasional burst of lumenessence from one of the grills flaring up (it is contained, don't run for the exits!). My meal of sushi was excellent, but not as good a value as I have had elsewhere. the rolls were smaller and marginally more expensive so where my lady and I've left other restaurants after 3 rolls and $25, we weren't satisfied at Kansai until after 5 rolls and $45. On the plus side, it gave us a chance to try out more rolls!

My daughter treated my Husband and I to some sushi .. Though my Husband isn't much of a sushi fan. I like the fact they had alternatives to what he wanted. He got the fried rice with shrimp and we ate the sushi.. different varieties and it was well worth every penny ( which wasn't much at all) frankly delicious.. Clean and the hospitality was great.. this place deserves its 5 stars!!

If you eat in, Dut Man (spelling??) is the best! I have followed this Chef from when he worked at Kobe in Jeff. He has an incredible memory and will most likely remember you the next time you visit. I am confident that I am not his only fan...lol I have stopped in for Sushi carry out several times and the staff is always very pleasant and the food quite delicious. They have high quality food and will accomodate fussy eaters (for instance, I don't like onion in my fried rice). If you have young kids though, you may want to assess whether the grill show might scare them. If you are at one of those tables, it can be torture!

Love this place, the atmosphere and all. Niko was our cooker. He did a fabulous job. My 2 yr old son loved it. I love their house dressing for salads. Simply delicious.

This was my first hibachi experience! We sat at the grill and it was thoroughly entertaining. There seemed to always be food in front of us whether that be soup, salad, rice or our entree. There was some confusion between the server and chef. While waiting to be seated we went to the bar, the bartender forgot about making my drink. I ordered a berry lemon drop cocktail and when finally made it was pink and delicious!

Five stars from me! Been here many times and always great food. A bottle of Plum wine for $10 ? Cant beat it. Love it!

They put on a great show and the atmosphere is nice so it's great for a group outing. However, I have never been satisfied with my entree. It's always very lack-luster and I've had better fast-food Japenese.

We've only ever been here for lunch so the price change to dinner was a surprise. We figured it'd be a little more but it's quite a bit higher and you get the same amount of food. We ended up just splitting the shrimp and chicken combo instead of getting separate. Very tasty! (Just come for lunch instead, much better deal)

I use yelp all the time to look at reviews for various establishments and never once have I felt compelled to write a review. Until now. I just left and I'm amazed that Kansai got such good reviews. I eat hibachi about 3-4 times a month and can honestly say I've never had a worse meal. The shrimp appetizer was very overcooked and chewy. I order the lobster dinner and it was actually repulsive. It's smelled like Windex and while I've never ingested the product, I can imagine that's what my lobster tasted like. I took two bites and was nauseated. If you enjoy eating hibachi then do not come here. I can't comment on the sushi because I didn't order any but the couple next to us did and it looked appetizing.

This is my first time eating here and I am loving it me and my 3 friends love eating at hibachi grills and I have to say that this is by far the best place I have eaten at even tho we didn't sit at the grill I watched a few of the chefs and they all seem very friendly and are very entertaining the food was amazing the flavors were just so different compared to all the other restaurants I've eaten at I will defiantly recommend this place to all my friends and family that come here ^_^

My husband and I ordered the deluxe maki sushi platter. It was 5 rolls for $30. This was hands the best sushi we have had in three states. Not fishy at all, melt in your mouth and perfectly balanced. You know how sometimes the seaweed is chewy and hard to swallow. Not here! you dont even notice it. I will be back for the Highlander roll and the Eel roll, both were amazeballs. If you know of better sushi in Indiana, please tell me!

I have always had good food here and never had any complaints on quality. For me the beer selection has always been good and I can find one I like. In this category I gave it a 4 star rating because the service here can be spotty. Sometimes it is good and sometimes it has left something to be desired, but never any problems with my food once I got it.

Hibachi steak and shrimp is what I came for. My shrimp was a little overcooked. They use a peanut sauce to fry the rice with, which I never witnessed before but it was tasty nonetheless. Didn't try any sushi. The decor needs and upgrade. mediocre chefs and food overall.

Absolutely wonderful. I've been there three times and all of the rolls have been consistently delicious. Best sushi in Clarksville, for sure.

Sushi was good. Pad thai was horrible. Service was worst I remember ever having. Servers were eating at one of the hibachi tables whole time. Only person who was working was the water boy. I won't be back. Wish there was a NO star rating for this experience.

About a third of our party ordered sushi and loved it. The rest of us ate from the grill with a delightful chef Niko making everything fun and delicious! I went back tonight for carryout. Portions are generous. This may be my new favorite restaurant. Definitely my new favorite Asian restaurant. Konichiwa!

Love the hibachi grill. My wife is allergic to tree nuts and peanuts and this is one of the safe places for her to eat. Great portions.

Nice place, with well prepared japanesque food. The food is prepared quickly and the staff is friendly. The flavors are good and I enjoyed by hibachi steak and sushi. I would definitely come back here again.

OK, so completely ordinary sushi is still one of the best options available. Kansai is ordinary--average--sushi, with more focus on the popular hibachi format. When we were there on May 30, 2008 there were probably 20:1 hibachi vs. sushi customers. We started out with miso soup, edamame, and vegetable tempura--all of which were simple takes on the well-known. For our main course, we ordered the Boston roll, a California roll, salmon sashimi, and tai nigiri. The nigiri came out as sashimi (sans the rice). These were the smallest portions I've seen in the metro area. The prices are just as high as the vastly superior Sapporo in Louisville--although they were broken into easier to handle chunks ($7 for three wee slices of salmon; versus Sapporo's $15 (for the freshest catch) for six. This place is good in a pinch if you're in southern Indiana and need reasonably good full-priced sushi, but otherwise make the trip across the river for special occasions.

Fairly good sushi. Can get a little pricey for a So. Indiana restaurant. Pretty good rolls. Nice bar area too.

While I'm not a sushi eater the Hibachi is great. The staff is great from the cooks to the guy that re-fills your drinks. I've been here on a not so busy day and when they were packed and they always do a good job of being attentive to the guest.

This is my favorite place in Southern Indiana. The owner and staff are all top notch and the food is great and reasonably priced. I crave it every time I think about it.

Have to agree with the first review. Kansai is a great place for sushi. We've also eaten at the hibachi grill here, but prefer the sushi. Sushi chefs are extremely friendly. On more than one occasion, when the restaurant was not busy, the sushi chef made up special plates for us for free (maybe that was just because it had just opened and they wanted us to come back???). We have our own box of chopsticks behind the bar. Definitely would recommend it.

This place is just like Kobe in Jeffersonville; after all, it is owned by the same family. The atmosphere and interior design aspects are nice and put you at ease. The hibachi performances are what you would expect and the food always turns out exquisite. The staff is friendly, keeps drinks refilled, and the prices are reasonable. Whether you pick this place or Kobe, you can't go wrong.

This has to be the best Japanese Habachi in the area. Coming from San Francisco, I admit being spoiled by all the good food here. But when we go back home to Indiana this place has quickly become a staple. The cooks are entertaining and the prices are pretty reasonable. If you were ever afraid to try Japanese but are intrigued enough to venture out there then this place is for you!

We have tried several different hibachi grills in the area and keep coming back to Kansai. While the "show" portion of sitting at the teppenyaki grills is fairly standard, the chefs make it a point to interact with the guests and remember you personally if you have been there more than once or twice. The sushi is served quickly with appropriately priced portions and the rolls are always a hit. Best, the rest of the food from chicken to steak to seafood is prepared exactly as you like it and the hibachi rice is terrific. I am not sure what the "secret" is- but I have not found another that is consistently as tasty. The only "down" side is that as word has spread about Kansai, it has become less appropriate for couples wishing to have a quiet evening out. The last several times we have gone there have been small children at the table no matter how early or late we go and that is not conducive to "date night". If you want a good meal every time- I would recommend this place highly. Your best bet is if you bring a group and fill the table with family and friends. If you want quiet conversation- skip the grills and choose a table or the bar.

This has quickly become my favorite place to eat since moving back to Indiana last summer. After living in San Diego for the last 20yrs and visiting Hawaii often, good sushi was a given. Lucky for me that hasn't changed since moving back to the Midwest. Kansai restaurant is a fantastic place to enjoy traditional style sushi. The menu has most anything you could get anywhere else, and the rolls are excellent. My recommendation (if your brave) would be to sit at the bar and allow the chef to fill your plate, forget ordering off the menu, he knows better than you what's fresh, and he won't steer you wrong. I haven't tried the Hibachi area yet, but judging from the crowds that eat there I'm sure it's good. The service is very good and the Kirin beer is cold. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is it's to far from an ocean. Now if I could just get my GF here to enjoy it with me!

This place is really really good the sushi is delicious and if your lucky enough you'll get a cook on the gril who puts on a good show to go along with your good meal. Man that was long winded whew ! Sorry bout that

The first thing I noticed when I walked in the door is that the floor near the hostess stand was dirty. It was in serious need of a vacuum. Then I had to go to the restroom and the floor was filled with paper towels and it was sticky. My shoes were sticking to the floor. I don't like sushi, so I ordered teriyaki chicken. It came with soup and a salad. My soup was nothing but broth and had a small piece of mushroom floating in it. The salad was straight out of the bag and floating in some sort of dressing. We ordered an appetizer of crab claws, and egg rolls. My husband loved his crab claws, and I ate one small egg roll and decided I wouldn't waste my calories on a greasy egg roll that taste like something you could buy in the frozen food section. My chicken had gristle all in the bite size chunks. I was very disappointed. I would have enjoyed a Healthy Choice dinner more. Next time it's Famous Daves.
