Erika’s Place

A Cicero institution. Erika's is everything you could want and more out of a small town diner. The place gives you a warm, cozy feeling...it's very personal. The service is (usually) quite friendly. The food is good for a place like this...I've never really had anything here that was disappointing. It should be noted that this is a small town diner, not a fancy top quality restaurant (10 West down the street offers this experience), and thus the food is more traditional and on a lower level. However, when you're in the mood for this kind of thing, Erika's hits the ticket every time. Things I suggest getting: Burgers...pretty tasty, very large. Tenderloins Breaded chicken sandwich...a little greasy, but good Mozzarella sticks...great appetizer Whatever's on special. Chicken and noodles, fried chicken...just go for it Pancakes! They serve breakfast all day. The sides are pretty solid (fries are meh)
Down home comfort food cookin' :) The hubs and I just recently moved to Cicero so of course I'm going to be on the prowl for new places to try! On moving weekend when you have nothing in your fridge, you tend to venture out in search of a place with some good eats. We stumbled upon Erika's Place and decided to try it out. Upon entering, it's a tight fit, but it gives you that "come on into our kitchen" feel. We sat down and immediately ordered coffee - I must admit, when you move, you are exhausted, on the brink of starvation, and in need of major sustenance...Erika's gave us just that. I loved how their coffee was served in bigger mugs rather than the tiny cafe cups you usually get. Our waitress was nice, attentive. I ordered off of their Create-Your-Own menu because I like to be difficult ;) I went with the 3-egg scrambled option with cheese and added hash browns and toast. The hubby ordered biscuits and gravy along with some french toast - both he said were delicious! We were completely satisfied at the end of the meal and ready to continue tackling our move. A few things to note: -be sure to get here early enough, they tend to run out of food -the tables are close together, so expect to overhear your neighbor's convo -it's not very clear if you're a first-timer, but you pay near the kitchen in the back All in all, a cute place that we'll try again :)
Fantastic pot roast sandwich, not a long wait (even when they are busy), and very friendly people. This place is great and I'll definitely be back again.

Small-town nostalgia (order by phone at your table!), juke box and crispy crust Pizza. Clean place, staff is fun, and pizza was perfect. Happy I didn't go down the road a quarter of a mile and pay 3 times as much for mediocre food at the Lazy Frog.
Darn good pizza for a small town! I especially love their nicely seasoned ground Italian sausage. Reasonable prices, great tasting sauce and good original crust. Fast prep, friendly service. I'm a repeat customer and recommend it.

Wow (in a negative way) is all I can use to describe this experience. Called ahead for seating an hour before and told we were on the list. Got there and told we would have a 10 minute for our table...no big deal. We waited for an hour. Anytime we asked how much longer the hostess kept saying we were next (literally nobody else sitting waiting with us) other kept walking in and were getting seated right away and appeared to be friends with servers who would come up and greet them and seat them. Finally got seated in the basement. The ambiance was really cool...I really enjoyed that and am really disappointed in our experience because I would have loved to go back. One server took our drink order and then another took our food order after waiting about 15 minutes. Appetizer came out within about 10 minutes. Spinach dip was really good. I liked the piano player but he appeared intoxicated as he sat at the bar the entire time and I saw him come out of the bathroom where he asked if I'd been drinking and then offered he had too much to drink. He played the same 3 songs over and over. So it's a nice concept maybe if he was sober and had more variety. We seriously waited over an hour for our dinner. It was hot and actually quite good but at that point it was 9:40pm and we had been there since 7:30 hungry and ready to eat. The server offered no apologies for the food taking so long and in fact never even came to our table while we were waiting. At the end of the meal the manager (a female) came up to see how our meal was. We explained about the wait for seating and food. She said she couldn't do anything about the wait for seating and that even if you call ahead you can still have an hour wait. Which is not the case at most places. She then stated that the kitchen is too small for the size of restaurant and that they were very busy and was sorry for the delay in food but that's what it was. She was actually quite rude about it and seemed very offended. We were very friendly when reporting what happened. She had, afterall, asked how our night was so we told her! She continued to make excuses and even accused us of lying about our wait time. We said we probably wouldn't come back and she just said that she was sorry to hear that and offered no reason for us to come back. When I left I went to the bathroom near the kitchen and looked in the kitchen. It is actually quite large and there was plenty of staff in there. It's clear why this was so bad...the service. When a manager is making rude remarks and making lame excuses this is going to carry over to the subordinate staff. I really hated to write this review b/c I had heard the food was great but that the wait for food was long. I was hoping that it was b/c those friends went when it opened but it seems like this a theme. I think the staff needs a major overhaul and some more skill on handling large crowds. It's the restaurant biz. You WANT it to be busy but fast so you can have quick turnover and make more tips. Don't make excuses just apologize and fix it for the next customer!
I've eaten the chef's creations at two different venues now and both times have had excellent experiences. This most recent venture is tucked in a surprisingly hip setting in Cicero Indiana. He has a strong menu with familiar and well executed dishes, the horseradish crusted walleye is well worth the trip itself. Take the time drive up with friends and check out this great new addition to the northside food scene.
Such great food! Great atmosphere! Great price point!! Awesome drinks! (Long Island is my fav) Friendly servers!

Once Dominoes changed the sauce recipe, they won me over. For less than $9 I'll pickup a large hand tossed, pep, italian sausage, and shroom w/ extra sauce creation. Zesty sauce now. Love it. Give 'em another try. This store has always been one of the better ones.

The only place we can get a butterscotch shake locally! Friendly staff. Love that they have a drive thru!!
Super mediocre? If you're visiting Cicero, this is probably something that will stick out to you...it has a good view of the lake...I guess. It can be a novel experience, since their seating is outdoors. The food...nah?? Everyone raves about the ice cream here, but it's just Velvet ice cream that you can buy in any grocery store. Velvet ice cream isn't even good...sorry to say. Novel experience? Maybe. Somewhere people in Cicero actually frequent? For some reason, yes...I want to love it, too, but it just doesn't hit the ticket.
So cheap!! I ordered a medium peanut butter fudge sundae and it was only $2.91! So for a girl on a budget, it was music to my ears. Having grown up in Noblesville I've always been a fan of Alexander's, and now I frequent this one because of it's ideal location during nice weather. Although now that they are doing construction on the bridge nearby the view isn't quite as nice, but it's still a tradition that I love.

Big Dog’s Smokehouse BBQ

29 E Jackson St
Cicero, 46034
Reviews:
Similar to another review, my husband and I were starving after house hunting in Cicero and we saw this place. The smell alone will drive you to this place. Upon entering, you hit sensory overload - the smells, the decor, the music. It's all on point. We ordered the Brisket which was great and a side of mac & cheese which definitely hit the spot. There's an old Wurlitzer jukebox that plays tunes from the likes of Tammy Wynette and Johnny Cash. I literally felt like I was on Route 66 on a road trip or something. This place really makes you feel adventurous and comfortable. Even after our meal was done, we stayed to enjoy the atmosphere. What a great place to have in a small town! We'll definitely be back :)
I commend Big Dog's for giving the Hamilton Heights Speech Team a special deal, and I'm grateful for that, but beyond that I really wouldn't come here. I don't have any intense dislike of the place; it has simply never proven itself. The barbecue itself is one of the main letdowns. The meat has almost no flavor on its own; the sandwiches must be drowned in BBQ sauce to obtain any flavor. This is one of the main issues...the meat should already have some good flavor and not have to rely on the sauce. The sides are okay..nothing spectacular, but better than the meat, I'd say. The place is pretty decorated on a certain theme. I couldn't really the name the theme, but it's nice in there. And the service isn't a problem either. So really it's just that this place is lacking pizazz that I feel it needs. I'd give it 2 and a half stars if that was an option, but I think 3 is a little high. If the meat was better, I'd give it a 3. (They're not kidding when they say it's a smokehouse. You can't get the smell off of yourself after leaving.)
It's been a while since I was here and I don't think two stars was fair based on a recent BBQ experience. The meat here was pretty good and the other stuff was a general minus. So overall I'm increasing to 3 stars since that would be more accurate.

Best broasted chicken ever!! Great owners and quality food! They deliver and that's always a plus!
This place is alright for takeout. Its only competition in Cicero is Domino's, and Pizza King...if I'm in the mood for pizza, and we're not makin' em at home, this is usually the place. The pizza is good. Not the greatest in the universe, but better than the chain options here. The crust isn't great. It used to be better than it is now...the ownership changed a while back, and since then we've stopped frequenting this place...sadly. The chicken is also good(ish)...a little dry, but it has that nice boasted flavor.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The pizza is bland. It was mostly dough, very little bland sauce and tasteless cheese. Unfortunately, and one and done for us.

La Cascada

10 W Jackson St
Cicero, 46034
Reviews:
Ugh... went for a family dinner and we sure did miss Toucan Annie's that used to be at this location. No lettuce or tomato on dishes. I had a burrito and was ill all night. Really bad Mexican. Lots of better choices in Noblesville, just south of Ciero.
Well there must be a reason this place gets bad reviews. Seriously, warm yucky guacamole. And if that isn't bad enough for you, it was for us...we went Accross the street and ate at the Lazy Frog. We hadn't looked back! It was really you. If you go to the lazy Frog get the Tiramisu martini omg so good.
Decided to try out La Cascada with a few friends, my girlfriend, and my father the other night. I must admit as soon as I walked in I was impressed with how clean and well decorated this place is. It's pretty obvious La Cascada is relatively low budget, I do believe they have another location in Noblesville though. Regardless, I was pleased to see what they had done with the place. It's located just across the bridge in Cicero where many restaurants have failed. We were first served chips and salsa with our drinks while we looked over the menu, which is one of the biggest menus I have seen. Don't get too excited though, super large menu and zero diversity. Almost everything will come with pico de gallo, guacamole, rice, and/or tortillas. I was just really disappointed to see that the chef or owner wasn't able to come up with a few fresh, exciting, and different side options. To be fair, I did try some of the guacamole and it was very good. I decided to order the "Fajitas Chihuahua" dish, which was a combination of chicken, shrimp, steak, and bacon with sauteed peppers and onions on top of a cheese sauce, served in a skillet. This was a very safe choice on my part, but I really can't stress enough how boring their menu is. I don't want to go into a Mexican restaurant and order something you'd typically find anywhere else. I like to try new things, and see that a small town restaurant can compete with the big guys. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. It was good, but it was too simple of a dish to mess up. Nothing special about it. The service was pretty awful. Our server was quiet and didn't seem to care, and didn't hide it. He didn't really check in with us to see how our food was, nor did he refill drinks(at least mine). We saw him to take our order, deliver our food, and drop off our check. Don't get me wrong, it is unbelievably annoying when a server won't leave you alone, but this was far too little attention. All and all, La Cascada doesn't seem like a bad place after only one experience. I will not be returning, because there's nothing there that excites me. I'd rather eat at Abuelo's and pay more for it. I'll give La Cascada 3 stars because what I did try of their food tasted good, but their poor service and overall poor menu was underwhelming.
