Red Cup Cafe & Deli Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I generally work from home, which means tons of frequent distractions. My adorable Rottweiler is barking all day, or the closets need to be cleaned out pronto, or I just HAVE to take a nap, or Law & Order is on...again. If I can't focus at home, I venture out to a locally owned coffee shop or restaurant to get some serious work done. Today I grabbed the laptop and went to Red Cup Cafe & Deli in Chesterton. I will definitely be back for a relaxing brunch with the hubs very soon. Here's why: The Red Cup serves Metropolis Coffee. If you're from Chicago, you know what I mean. Smooth and delicious! They have breakfast specials, a brunch menu, and lots of hot and cold sammies. The baked goods look totally decadent. If I enjoyed sweets, I'd probably try one of each. There's tons of free street parking on both sides of the street in front of the cafe. I'm sure it's difficult to find an open space on any given summer Saturday when the European Market is in full force, but it's no problem on a Thursday afternoon. The atmosphere is quirky and cozy, with lots of mix-and-match furniture including a few high-top tables and stools, couches and overstuffed chairs, and even a large dining room style table that seats eight. Great for groups, couples, and singles alike. The completely random musical selection is probably my favorite thing about the Red Cup. I've been here for an hour and have heard smooth '70s soul, synth-pop, ragtime and old-timey jazz, Wilco, Alabama Shakes, Modest Mouse, and Joy Division. The variety is truly impressive. Who knows what I'll hear next? Ella Fitzgerald? Hank Williams, Sr? Stevie Nicks? Kraftwerk? The servers and baristas know what they're doing and will patiently answer questions about the menu. In other words, you don't have to be a regular to feel comfortable. Both the self-serve condiment area and the unisex bathroom are clean and tidy. There are a few tables on the shady sidewalk our front and free wifi. I love this place.

Two great guys opened the doors for an out-of-towner early Sunday morning and made me a big, delicious cup of coffee ! Little did I know they don't open on Sundays! Just my luck to catch them as they stopped in to pick up muffins to take to church. Thank you for your warm hospitality and for the cup of joe. I will be back when you are "really" open.

I first thought this place was too cool for me but it ain't. I love dancing with the door coming in and the funky music always playing. So close to the beach and after dropping the progeny off, and that too if need be.

Loved it here. Cool vibe. Rad people. delicious food, many options (including vegan options) I had the vegan lentil soup--lets just say I will definitely be going back for it. (The blueberry coffee cake pretty much rules too)

Excellent coffee with a side of kindness! The owner (I presume) made me coffee after hours and even gave it to me on the house when I only had a credit card to pay. Some may be upset by an out of tower with her loud toddler wandering in (three hours) after hours.. but I was met with kindness and generosity. We will be back during business hours to try the fantastic looking food. Espresso was perfect. Vibe was fun!

Loved it! The food was wicked fresh and the people were awesome. We just needed a place to kill some time and got more than we bargained for. We will definitely be back. It's hard to beat a place with great food, service and record collection!

Vegan options. Awesome. Friendly service. Wonderful! Great food! Hooray! Try the tomato pesto provolone sammich. Deliciously creamy. They emphasize local food and farm fresh eggs. Really happy!

Good lattes and good atmosphere! I like the cool art decor, vinyl music and baked goods. The sandwhiches look good as well but i did not get one.

Great atmosphere, great coffee. A great small town feel. One if my favorite coffee places of all time. A bit pricy for me, but still overall love it.

Meh. Recycled couches and coffee. Lunch sandwiches were really small and made on a George Forman grill. Chips with sandwich were a very small handful. Portobello mushroom sandwich was goat cheese and raw, sliced Mushroom. Really? Who does that??? Not sure what the rave reviews are about. Seriously not worth the trip. Avoid.

Had another great lunch here. I had the corned beef and sauerkraut with Dijon and Swiss and it was great. They used to serve Terra chips, but this time they had potato chips.

I love the feel of this town and even more this cafe! From the moment you walk in the big old red door, you're just glad you're there. Walked over to the record collection and picked out an album to play. Nice touch! I was happy to see some great food items on the blackboard. The employees couldn't have been friendlier. I guess my only reservation was my food was not great. True, I had my hummus veggie sand which on gluten free bread (kudos they even had any), but I've had fairly decent gluten free bread before. This... definitely was not. The bread was almost inedible; just crumbled when I picked it up. I'm also used to veggie sandwiches being loaded with veggies. This had a few little slices of onion and cucumber, tiny amount of hummus. Suffice it to say I ate as soon as I got home! Definitely will give it another try though. Maybe an off day?

I took a cross-country roadtrip and randomly stumbled into this sandwich shop. The sandwich both my dad and I had were so good! Seriously such a treat having delicious food after so long of driving. Not only that but the ladies who worked there were very nice and welcoming.

Red Cup is a great place to meet a good friend for coffee and lunch or a snack. The baked goods are simple, whole and delicious. The goat cheese and red pepper panini is out of this world! The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is hip, warm and cozy.

Red Cup is a great place to grab a quick coffee or lunch, or stop and stay for awhile to read. It has a very pleasant atmosphere with cool decor, and there is almost always a place to sit. I go out of my way to go there. Everything I've tried to eat or drink has been excellent. The sandwiches are unique and tasty, and the baked goods are equally good (they even serve gluten free baked goods!).

We visited this place when we went to Indiana doons and this place is awesome, it has a very different feel, cosy like being at home. Plus the town is sweet little town. We ordered coffee and sandwich and both were great, the lady attending us was very charming, will love to visit the place again.

Really bad customer service, decent food and coffee, good pastries. I've been here twice and if they don't know you, good luck with getting a friendly greeting. As we were waiting (about 5 min) to place our order with no one in front of us, the lady behind the counter greeted the lady in line behind us. As we sat and waited for our order, the lady who got the greeting had also received her food way before ours. This place favors the "locals" - I've lived in this town for a year now, maybe in a few more years I'll get better service. There's also a little Jesus figurine on the counter by the register with a paper that says WWJD? And at the bottom it says, he would tip. Now, Jesus is a cool dude in my book, but I don't like to be pressured and shamed into tipping for service that does not merit a tip, nor do I want to feel the pressure for tipping if I'm the one cleaning up after myself. Tips should be earned not demanded. Entitled children behave this way, adults with an environmentalist view on the world, should not.

After a hike in the Dunes, this is the perfect place to grab a bite, a drink and recover from your efforts. Choices include sandwiches, soups, quiches, specialty sodas, teas, coffees. All ingredients are fresh and choices are mostly organic. This makes the food we tried quite tasty and enjoyable.

Great baked goods and coffee is wonderful. Try the "Sweet and Salty" cookie dipped in the coffee...awesome

  • Michael B.

The custom-made sandwiches are fantastic. They make them on a grill press and the cheeses and other flavors just ooze perfectly. I don't understand the comment that there is just one washroom. There are two, and the doors about about two feet apart. I do wish they were open past 4:00 p.m., but this isn't a dining facility as much as a place one goes to gnosh. The dining facility is really old-fashioned, warm and embracing. It's a must-do when in town.

Gentle Reader, I must confess to a long-standing prejudice -- even though/because I am a native of NW Indiana (a.k.a. "The Region"), I do not expect to find any business that is either cool or delicious or funky. Finding Red Cup in Chesterton to be all three of those things -- well, thank goodness Red Cup has lots of air conditioning on a hot day, because I really needed to sit down and absorb the cool quotient of it. Red Cup is seriously nice. And good. And yummy. And even nice-looking. It is a cup of funky Wicker Park coffee shop somehow lifted whole, with food and tattooed staff, to Chesterton. I've visited Red Cup twice recently, both times on very hot days when I expelled enough sweat to slip out from under the seat belt of the car. I was probably kinda stinky. I was definitely not cute or well-put-together. But the staff were very welcoming. I and two different companions enjoyed iced tea, iced coffee, hot herbal tea, hot coffee, quiche, a muffin, fresh fruit, and a scone. Everything was good. Red Cup also serves several salads (egg, potato, 3-bean, others), quiches, deli sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, soups, and a variety of baked goods. We enjoyed everything we consumed. Red Cup inhabits a century-old building just south of the public square in Chesterton. The store is decorated with a variety of artwork on the walls. On the ceiling, someone has spent a lot of time and effort to construct designs made of wood and painted. The staff is pleasant and efficient. They all have lots of tattoos. I find it hard to believe they live in The Region, but there they are. Maybe they take the South Shore in everyday from Chicago. They definitely look like dazzling urbanites. I did notice one customer working on her computer. I'd like to say they have free wi-fi, but can't be sure. All in all, a good experience. I would definitely go again, and I definitely recommend it to you. They are open during the day, and they closed at 6pm during the week, at least on the two days I was there. An oasis of big city coffeehouse in the little town of Chesterton. I wouldn't make a special trip from Chicago just to visit Red Cup, but if I'm in Porter County, at the Dunes, or travelling to and from Michigan on I-94 or Route 12, I'd take time out of the trip to stop in.

Yum! I try to come to this coffee shop every time I'm in Chesterton visiting family. First of all, I drink coffee everyday and have been to at least 50 different coffee shops across the country. Red Cup certainly holds it own. Their drinks are inventive and delicious. Also, their bakery items (cookies, muffins) are really great. It is the perfect mid afternoon snack. Lastly, the ambiance is great for lounging. They have affordable artwork for sale and ample seating for people to enjoy. If you are just visiting or a permanent Chesterton resident I would make it a point to visit Red Cup.

  • Laura H.

I really want to like this place --it's the only coffee house in the area, and it has wifi -- and there are times when I do. If only it were consistent. One day a quiche with side salad and fruit salad is beautifully served and two days later it's a piece of quiche on a few spinach leaves and a banana sliced with the peel on, making it pretty hard to eat and leaving me to wonder about sanitation issues. The inconsistency speaks to management. Supplies are often low, bathrooms dirty/out of soap and the entire place could use a good dusting. Dirty dishes sit for hours on tables. Hours are haphazard, I've been here when they just turn off the lights and decide to close because it's slow. It's a shame really. The food is very good and the place fills a niche in a town with few options for fresh foods and a place to sit and work or talk over coffee...

Whenever I visit my boyfriend's family, it seems like the only options for dining are greasy pizza and burgers, 'Mexican' food (tortilla's filled with velveeta) and/or commercial chains. I definitely have an inner fat girl, but during the holidays, the last thing I want more of is more processed food. Enter Red Cup Cafe & Deli! The boyf and I were jonesin' for something on the lighter side, so we opted for this local gem. The sandwich choices seemed tasty (although a lot of bacon. Call me cray-cray, but i'm not into the belly of a pig). We decided on 'Real' ginger ale and to share a sandwich (turkey, cheese and bacon). We asked for the bacon on the side so the boy could enjoy it, which the hip guy behind the counter happily obliged. The atmosphere was moderately industrial/coffee house eclectic, which I'm always a fan of. It felt cozy and relaxed, which is always much needed around the holidays! Our food itself was great. Everything was fresh, plus the sandwich came with those awesome terra chips. If it hadn't have been such a glutton earlier in the day, we would have snapped up one of their delicious treats! It hit all the right notes for a cafe. Great food/beverage/pastries- Can't wait to go back to try more!

A great, friendly atmosphere. The locals hit up this spot for coffee and muffins at breakfast. During lunch, Red Cup serves up great hot sandwiches and soups. Kelly and her staff are always very friendly. The cafe features a unique atmosphere that shows off local artists and a community bulletin board.

I have yet to experience the lunch offerings, but the cookies and coffee are a sure thing. They aren't exactly cheap with their blended coffee drinks, but then again who is these days? I like the feeling of supporting a local coffee/deli joint such as Red Cup. The owner is very sweet and the staff seems to be young and full of energy.

I just went to Red Cup at their new location. What a great atmosphere! They were playing great tunes and their coffee was good. Unfortunately, I have to update this to a 3-star restaurant. The Red Cup has been sold and has moved. It's still called The Red Cup though. Went in to grab a bite to eat today. They had a bean and escarole soup which I ordered. The man behind the counter couldn't tell me what was vegan and what wasn't. He said everything in the baked goods case was vegan. There were sour cream cupcakes in there. The soup was good, but my husband thought it was too salty to eat. That gets a -1 star. So, a grilled cheese sandwich, cup of soup and bowl of soup was over $15. This outrageous pricing gets another -1 star. Sorry Red Cup, the food is good but not that good.

Cute cafe/coffeeshop. Staff is friendly and very quick with making espresso drinks. Will have to try the food next time!

Good place, the only problem is they have the worst hours ever!
