A little hard to find... but an amazing dining experience! We stopped for Sunday breakfast and was delighted with everything about the place. The food was excellent... great breakfast. About 30 different gourmet burgers on the chalkboard wall menu. I can't wait to try some! Prices were extremely reasonable considering the quality of the food. Worth the stop in my book.
Stopped in for lunch on a rainy Tuesday to discover this hidden gem. The interior is well-appointed, though understated, and much larger than you might expect from the cafe moniker and side street entrance. The food is excellent! At our table we ordered the caribbean jerk chicken gyro, the spinach and chicken alfredo penne, and the quesadilla burger (one of about 30 on the separate burger menu). Having sampled all three, each was enjoyable in its own way with perfectly balanced flavors. The price, though slightly higher than other local lunch options, is a very fair value given the portion size, quality fresh ingredients, and included side salad, soup, or fries. We will definitely be back for more!
They offer 36 burgers and are home to the 15 egg Omelette Challenge if it hasn't been on food channel yet it should be! With this in mind we decided to check it out... Meanwhile we were sacrificing our foodie tendencies for what we thought would be a tourist's hurrah. We were delightfully surprised. It was quant and friendly with a helpful staff. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be smiling which was a shock probably since we had just toured Detroit and Cincinnati. They offer gluten free options and the quality of food for a small town restaurant is high.

This place is AMAZING! We met up with some family from Cincinnati here (we are from Indy) for a Christmas brunch. The venue is awesome! The inside is rustic, unique, and antique. The food was great! It is all local and was prepared great. The service was good, a little slow, but we were not in a hurry so nothing to complain about. They had bottomless Bloody Mary's which was a plus! Santa was there and they did a great job of decorating for Christmas! Planning to go back next year!
Went back for a special occasion with a large-ish party, and the entire experience was amazing. Service was among the best any of us had experienced, and everything we ordered was delicious. Wishing them much, much continued success.
This is truly one of the best restaurants in the Southeast Indiana and Western Cincinnati area. They recently opened so you can tell that some of the staff is still learning a few things but overall I have had nothing but good experiences thus far the times I have been there for lunch, dinner and evening drinks. First of all, the food is great. Some items are a bit pricy, but overall you should expect a pleasant experience. I understand that the chef and his staff make their own bread for the sandwiches and burgers they serve, so that adds freshness to an already great recipe of ingredients in sandwiches. All sandwiches also come with house made cole slaw that looks and tastes a bit more like a salad than cole slaw. I like it but some people have told me they are indifferent to it, so I guess its one of those things that you have to try for yourself. Walhill has a baked ham and cheese sandwich that is accented by fig and appricot chutney - it is awesome! - I have never had anything like it and I highly recommend it for lunch. Their buffalo burger and house "Walhill" burger are seasoned and prepared extremely well. The burgers are juicy and perfectly seasoned. The only item in the menu I have not been completely bought into is the chicken caprese sandwich. It is basically a grilled chicken sandwich with italian herbs. All sandwiches are served with house made chips which is an excellent blend of potatoes, yucca, sweet potato and sometimes taro. As far as dinner dishes, their braised rabbit is one of the best I've ever tasted. They also have Elk medallions and much more that I can't wait to try. There is live entertainment on Friday evenings and most days they offer drink "happy hour" specials. Overall this is a restaurant that is extremely good at providing options, great service and great food to customers. This place is a jewel in rural Indiana.

Excellent lunch while traveling. Worth getting off the interstate. Sat outside and service was good even though it was mid afternoon. The menu is extensive, truly something for everyone. The non-driver enjoyed the beer and the kids enjoyed the kids menu options. I had a steak salad which was delicious. Definitely recommend this for locals and travelers alike.
We had been trying to get to Lil' Charlie's for about a year now, but we were never in the right place at the right time. They are often quite busy, but tonight we were able to get in! Our party of seven arrived about an hour before the restaurant closed at 9PM (the bar stays open an hour later than that) and got seated right away. That late in the evening on a Sunday, there weren't a lot of others in the restaurant besides us. The atmosphere was casual, the food was wonderful, and the service was above average. We will definitely be returning to Lil' Charlie's!
A nice local stop between Indy and Cincy. Very bar-like looking on the outside, but quite cozy and welcoming on the inside (think small rooms with lots of wood everywhere). The bar has a more modern feel and lots of flat screen TVs, as well as a glass wall to have a peek at the brew tanks. Started with gastronomical surprise - portobello fries - delicious, hot and spicy. Young and old in our party enjoyed hand crafted root beer. Fish and chips - good chunks of fish, but not as creative as the portobello fries. Very friendly and patient staff. Fast service for kids cranky from long travels. All around nice experience.

I'm not from Batesville, but this is a place I would want to go back to time and again if I did live there. It wasn't very crowded when we went (it was a weeknight with bad weather), but I'm sure the service would still have been great if it had been a packed house. The menu itself was more extensive that I would have expected, and the group I was with loved their meals - I especially loved mine, the Tuscan Pasta. It was easily the best Italian-style pasta I've had in years, and it beat Olive Garden by a landslide. And considering the low prices, I was especially impressed. Can't wait to try some of those craft brews next time!
Very nice place. Only been in the bar area. Good beer choice and prices, but no onsite brewery (for now). Didn't get the entire backstory but they've hired a new brewmaster and should be brewing soon. Mostly wood room with several high top tables in front of the bar. Assuming you are coming in from the south outside door, you into the area opposite the bar. Several high tables. Bar is on north wall. Only 10 or so stools but an great open U-shaped bar. Tons of hdtvs including 3 on the bar back. Just a casual fun place. A hand full of drunks, but you're in a bar. Have fun.
Stopped here during a Kentucky-to-Illinois road trip. Midweek, parking lot full is a good sign. Service was fast, food was good, and that's about all I remember since I started this review 5 months ago.

I'm a fan. They have a real grill which sets off all the menu items they use it to prepare. In particular, the wings are yum. Good pizza too. Burgers are the best in Batesville.
1 applesauce, 2 waters, 16 inch pizza $35.60!!!!! We added chicken to our pizza and no one told us that adding chicken was $9. Sat outside and it was very very smokey. Pizza was way too cheese - I know who would have thought that would be a bad thing but after one slice we felt like we ate a brick. Live music was good, a little loud for a small space.
If I could give it less I would. The food was sub par. Nothing seemed fresh. The fries were under cooked and greasy. The appetizer of mushrooms were frozen and over cooked. Don't even bother. The service was okay. That's the best I can say.

Service and wait time is much improved. Server's are friendly and wait time is much much better.
Slowest...service...ever. Ketchup on my hot dog. I asked for mustard. They can't even get the condiments right. What a joke.
This was my first visit to a Steak 'n Shake. Gee, I hate to be the spoiler here, but here goes, anyway. This is not McDonald's (thank goodness), and it's not the Four Seasons. It is what it is. The food is good, and the service was terrific. We didn't have a single issue. I was amazed at the large variety of choices on the menu. Lighten up, folks!

I enjoy the food. I would give it a higher rating if I haven't received some of the worst service in town from this place for years. No matter who they hire, the staff is consistently rude. Most drive thru people talk to you, by simply saying "thanks" or "have a nice day". They literally open the window, hand you the food, then shut the window. Terrible customer service.

Hobo Hut

Reviews:
Full disclosure. One of the proprietors is a childhood friend from 60 years ago. Being said, the Hobo Hut offers great food, large portions, at a fair price. Not fancy but you won't go hungry or broke. I enjoy the tenderloin and the goeta when we visit Batesville.
Be prepared to lose your day. It's a breakfast/lunch diner with horrifically slow service. Horrifically slow! My husband and I were there for a full hour before our food arrived. They do not take credit cards. Cash only and no warning that they do not accept credit cards. It's beyond greasy spoon comfort food, it's a digestive system hostile take over! The food didn't taste bad, greasy but not bad. It was the hours of digestive distress that makes this place less than appetizing. After spending nearly 2 hours of our morning in this retro nightmare it was a race home, praying to make it to the 'facilities' in time. That's where another 2 hours were wasted. After all that we were both weak and needed a nap so another 2 hours of our precious Saturday gone. In conclusion, I suggest to avoid the Hobo Hut unless you would like to spend the rest of your day wondering if your a victim of food poisoning or have consumed toxic levels of grease.
A great place for breakfast and Lunch
