Terrible Steak & Shake Store I mean... I know... It's Steak & Shake. And I knew full well what that could mean for lunch, despite it being my boyfriend's favorite food. (Weird, right?) But this store... Well it exceeds the worst expectations. The service? Terrible. The wait? Terrible. The cleanliness? Non-existent. Upon arriving, we waited several minutes before being sat. It's 3:30 on a Sunday. It's not normal busy time, nor is this place busy. Despite a server sweeping her section to our right, and another rolling silverware about 10 feet away. Finally a different server emerged from the back and went to seat us in her section (Kathy) but because the booth had a bag of fries as a floor rug - we asked for a different table. This made her mad and let's say we never saw her again after being sat in the corner. After waiting about 10 more minutes emptily at our table I had to go up and request someone to help us. Another server (Hannah) who already was clearly busy tending to all the tables in the dining room told us she wasn't our server but she was happy to help. She immediately came out and took our order. I felt bad for her because it wasn't her fault we had such a terrible experience in our first 20 minutes, but at this point we were already debating on leaving to go somewhere else. After she took our order about 10-15 minutes later another server (No name tag?) came out and dropped our food off at another table who then pointed out it wasn't theirs. Lucky for us this server took the food back off their table and walked over to us and set it down and told us to "pretend it didn't come off another table." So whatever, we went with it and the food was actually good and the best part of the whole trip. Our shakes came after food but at least they came, right? I saw a few other tables get sat by the same server who sat us and they all waited an unreasonable amount of time to get helped. Not sure if Kat woman was just seating people and not telling anyone or if all the servers didn't care? I saw our girl Han try to get the other servers moving and everyone seemed pretty frustrated. Upon checking out we found ourselves among a small group of individuals waiting for carry out orders. One was demanding a refund for his order and someone dressed as a manager walked over from the grill and refunded him and apologized. Finally Hannah (Ms. Running the Store) came over and cashed us out. She was really nice, despite that she was clearly stressed. (Due to lack of a management and staffing? Not sure.) Either way, this store was Terrible (yep, with a capital T.) I suggest corporate consider cleaning this place up (theoretically and literally.) I think the local Dollar Tree, McDonalds, Burger King, White Castle, and any other budget brand could look like a 4-star store compared to this disaster of a restaurant. (Haterish? Maybe, but this place deserves it.)

I dropped in here for lunch a couple of times with my colleagues. The place gets really crowded during the afternoon. Their $4 menu deals are awesome. There are so many options and I really get so confused every time what to order. They take really long time to get the food to your table which I do understand because of the large crowd. They do a fantastic job though. I love their cheese burger. They should really try to make the place look more tidy. That's the only problem which I have with this place. Sometime I would drop by in for lunch and I would order all their $4 menu burgers and hog on them!!

After waiting for like ever to be seated, then to be treated like we had the plague, I hope to God that I never ever have to visit this place again. And then, as we were sitting there eating our food I look up to see one of the waitresses take a towel from another waitress to clean a table. This towel wasn't cleaned, they didn't use bleach or any other cleaner, just this old towel that looked like it had been used all day. That is soooo groce!

Steak N Shake was as good as expected from a chain restaurant. Very similar to Clown Burger back in Texas. I really like the thin patties on the hamburgers.

It's your typical Steak 'n Shake. They're a bit slow, but not unreasonably so. The staff was friendly enough and the place was kept up well. So what can I say... I'm sure I'll be back from a shake during happy hour before long.

I ordered a double garlic steak burger and a double steak burger with everything on it for carry out. There was a wait, but that was expected. I got to see them grill my burgers from the swivel chairs by the check out. The food quality was great for $4.00 meals. My only real complaint was the fry cups not being full and the wait. I don't understand the concept of fry cups anyway. Why not boxes? That way they don't spill or anything. Will be back. I haven't dared to go beyond their burgers. Although the taco salad is $4.00 too, and I might give that a go. Their shakes are generally superb, but I suggest always getting a to go cup (just my preference). If you want immediate service, go tell one of the people. Many are busy doing other stuff. I had to gesture someone over for my order. Prompt service though, if you demand it.

Absolutely 0 stars! So slow! Sat in drive through for 10 minutes before us and the car in front of us left because the line didn't move for 10 minutes! Terrible

This is by far the worst Steak and Shake I've ever been to. It was awful 10 years ago and it's still awful today. The service sucks, they're not friendly, they forget about your food and getting it to you while it's warm. AWFUL!

It used to be a tradition for us to stop here after a concert and get a milkshake. Never again. The night shift at the Avon restaurant is totally disorganized. We've all had a bad experience our last 3 visits and figured they would improve. It has even gotten worse! Last Saturday night the restaurant was only half full, but people were standing in the doorway and outside waiting to be seated! We waited 20 minutes and no one was seated yet! There is a SONIC close by which we went to and we recommend going there! Our milkshakes were far better and we only had to wait 10 minutes to get our milk shakes! We're done with Steak n Shake in Avon! There were many others who left Steak 'n Shake Avon to go elsewhere as well.

Just went through the drive up at Steak n Shake here in Avon. I don't eat a lot of fast food anymore but felt like splurging. It was 17 minutes after I ordered until I received my food and that includes waiting 3 minutes after paying. Ok great I was expecting fresh hot fries. But no - I got barely warm fries that tasted like onion rings. The bacon cheeseburger with everything is good. Not worth the wait though. I won't be going back.

Absolutely the worst Steak 'n Shake I have ever been too. They gave me my food on the place running off the side. Messed up my order and didn't even care. Went to fix it and left me with bread to eat while I waited. Come to my surprise the bread tasted like some sort of cleaning product had been on it. Needless to say I flipped out on them. Absolutely disgusting. Not to mention their kitchen was filthy. Not recommended!

Waited at the door on Sunday night for awhile until greeted. The restaurant was very u organized and the staff seemed upset and overrun by a half full restaurant. Waited a long time for milkshakes, that is all we ordered. Manager did not seem to be doing anything but gingerly cleaning the kitchen.

The food/service here is usually good but not always consistent. A word of caution to those with a peanut allergy: Do not order a milkshake! Steak and Shake will not accept any responsibility if they contaminate your shake with peanuts. They have a disclaimer on their menu/will never admit fault. They do not care if they make you sick. They just don't want to compensate you if you become ill. I spent 2 hours in the ER 2 weeks ago after having an anaphylactic reaction from a chocolate shake I ordered that had peanuts in it. Corporate denied any wrongdoing. I never asked them to compensate me for my $150 ER deductible. All I asked was that they teach their staff to be more careful to prevent cross contamination. They basically blew me off. I've since heard about other episodes of carelessness by their stores and will never order another shake again. Not so much as an apology for nearly killing me. That's not a way to treat a loyal customer of 18 years.

What can I say? It's Steak 'n Shake. Food was mediocre do was the staff, they were busy with the holiday but no need to slack on standards. That seems to be the norm at this location regardless of how busy they are.

You can certainly tell when Steak N Shake has a different manager. Service was abysmal- had to wait to get seated over 10 minutes despite many empty tables. Several employees looked at all the people waiting to be seated but no one said anything to us. There was no hostess. We waited an hour for our food and then jt was cold. Our server never checked on us even once. almost every patron was complaining about one thing or the other- slow food, messed up order, no service etc. When we went to pay, the computer was messed up. My husband waited 10 minutes to pay but since they couldnt get anything to work, they finally comped our meal. While we really like Steak N Shakes menu and prices, it will be a VERY long time before we return to this particular location!

Am I really going to write a review about Steak and Shake? And what got into me that I should even find myself eating in one?? Ok, so my experience was so bad and so laughable that I cannot resist. I actually thought I was on a John Quiñones episode of "What would you do?" Family road trip on the way back to Chi. It's about eating time for my wife and daughter, and it's definitely nursing time for newborn son. We HAD to pull over. And S&S was our best option. Not good. Sunday afternoon. Not very busy and plenty of staff. Someone comes in ahead of me to order takeout. Guy takes her order and starts working on it. I wait about 10 minutes and he finally looks up from the grill at me and asks, "have you been helped?" No, You're the only guy near the register! So he takes my order - just three simple burgers. I still have to drive 160 miles - can't risk it. A few minutes later, he comes back with the previous customer's food, but she's missing her shakes. He shouts out to the back. Confusion! He starts ranting and talking crap about his colleagues. She didn't get her shakes for another 15 minutes. Meanwhile, i'm still waiting and just observing the dysfunction of the staff frantically trying to get orders right. Then a woman from the drive thru comes in complaining that they messed up her order. "I ordered a triple cheeseburger, not three cheeseburgers," she says. I lean over and say to her, "those are probably mine." She is so mad she doesn't even hear me. The manager comes over and takes her wrong order (aka, my order) and tosses it. Doh! And then she starts reaming her staff. Eventually, I got my burgers. And before I left I quickly stopped in the restroom. As I was walking in, one of the servers was walking out after cleaning the bathroom. And as she opens the door, she's taking one last check of her bangs in the mirror while aimlessly spraying her cleaning bottle in front of herself....All over my pants. Is all this really happening to me? At least two different new customers were complaining as I left. It was so crazy that I was actually laughing out loud on my way out. Like the cuckoo laugh when you go nuts.

Your average S&S, with good service and decent food. I'd go back.

During our visit to Indianapolis, we stopped here on our 2nd night here. It was highly competitive for parking at this location and the place was packed. This was at 7:00 pm at night. My first impressions were that this place is VERY popular. After we were seated, 10 minutes later, we quickly got our order taken. One thing that astonished me was that while my head was buried into the menu, the whole place cleared out as they were done with their dinner. For my first meal of all time at Steak N Shake, I opted for the Double n' Cheese Steakburger, with fries and a Strawberry Shake. It was spectacular! The Steakburger was perfect and very flavorful. The fries, with the help of the burger/fry seasoning were delicious. My Strawberry shake was amazing. I do not remember the last time I had such a great shake. The place was clean, the service was great, the food was top notch. The entire meal with a family of 5 was under $30 with tip. I highly recommend this place!

Apparently this is the highest grossing Steak N Shake in the state, from what I have heard. Any time I go here, I run into someone I know. There are people hanging out 24/7. This is one of the places in Avon where you can just go and hang with friends for hours and have a milk shake or some cheese fries. Side note: I think they are closed for renovations currently.

You know, I hate hate hate commenting on a restaurant after only one unpleasant visit, but this visit was really unpleasant. I do like Steak 'n' Shake for cheap burgers and fries, so I don't really have an issue with the food. There was a little wait for the hostess, but then I was seated and greeted promptly. Then a man at the table nearby (yeah, the one with the screaming child) asked if it was going to be an hour wait to get the food. At that point, I looked around and NO ONE in the near vicinity had food on their tables. Either everyone had arrived at exactly the same time, or they were having a considerable problem with backed-up orders. I'm glad I didn't go through the drive-thru. And then, of course, there was a line to pay, this time because the two women behind the cash register were apparently trying to figure out how to ring up an order? Just chatting? Going through some store procedure? I don't think I'd return to this location.
