This is a joke. I call for reservations which they did not honor when we arrived. Told us to sit in the bar and wait. Mind you I had two kids with me.. hostess wasn't hearing it. Were seating walkins ahead of us. But that's what I get for going to a so called steak house in Worth. Walked out and went somewhere else. Note to owners: Hire staff that is accommodating and not miserable or mad at life. Could be a great place.

I am revising my previous post, because I now see what everyone was referring too. Service here is HORRIBLE!!! Everyone from the Front Door host to the Manager to the Waitress were RUDE. At first I was willing to give them some slack, because I work with the public I know that customer can be hard to deal with. However, we were as kind as can be and did nothing to be treated like this. Will never return, if it was an option I would rate it as 0 stars. consider this a friendly heads up.

We ordered take out last Sunday at it was awful. An appetizer platter that said BBQ shrimp(awful) rib tips ( awful) stuffed mushroom( what was that stuffed with) meatballs( horrible) and 2 slabs of ribs....they were from the day before and re heated in the microwave, so was the potatoe. It was over 75.00 of awful food. We had a gift certificate, so we tolerated it but absolutely never again.

I love Krapils. Since they've added the outdoor patio, this is my go-to-place. They have live music every weekend and the atmosphere is cozy and quaint. The fire pit is awesome and it's great all year long! I love the fact that I can go to an outdoor patio in the winter. They've winterized it so well and I feel very warm and welcomed every time I go there. The food selections are great. There is something there to please even the pickiest of palates.

After cooling off, I can still -without reservations- state that this place is the worst dining experience I've ever had.

We had surf and turf. Market price was $49.99. Lobster was cooked perfectly. The filet was also perfect. The steak was not seasoned but we prefer them that way. Their own seasoning was on the table but we didn't need it. We loved the baked potatoes. Cooked perfect and very tasty, not dry. Pretzel rolls were good. Nice wine selection. We sat outside and really enjoyed the music and atmosphere. We will go again.

Holy Jesus! What the hell kind of restaurant is this? I imagine if you just like to get drunk this is the place for you. I went here to celebrate a big day for someone and he certainly deserves better than this dungeon. First off, we had a party of 50+. They gave us two servers which then turned into 1. I feel bad for this waitress because she seemed to be the only one working to attempt to make our party enjoyable. She also kinda reminded me of a young Ellen Barkin and that ain't a bad thing. I had some of the pre ordered dinner of ribs and chicken. Oh my god. Did I just eat food or some kind of plastic substitute. Terrible. Waste of my damn time. We had someone leave because of this nonsense. I don't blame her. They also kicked out a member of our party after allowing her to stay for half of the time. That was embarrassing and kinda funny but the management crew also handled it like idiots. There seemed to be like 3 managers with stupid headsets that either didn't understand English or are unable to do manual work but they also knew how to nod their heads and say I'll take care of this. Although, they didn't do anything at the present time. They did, however, discount the bill in someway. Probably hoping that saving a few bucks would be enough to apologize for impending food poisoning of all the uncooked meat we ate. What I've learned over the years is people really deserve to have a nice meal and solid service when they take the time to go out. Even more so when you bring lots of business in. This place offers nothing. A complete waste of time. Terrible food and terrible management. The server was good. Like i said, a young Ellen Barkin.

Took my dad here for father's day (per his request). We decided to sit in the outdoor area, so my dad could enjoy the live music. The atmosphere was really nice. It's rare to find such a lovely looking place in that area, but the outdoor area was infested with mosquitoes and when we requested some kind of candle to keep the bugs away, we were surprised to find out they didn't have anything like that, so we got eaten up the whole time we were there. The service was very good. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the bussers kept our table clear of dirty dishes. Now for the food. It was awful. I'm a concierge at a 4 star hotel in the downtown Chicago, and I frequently dine at steak houses. Many of the places in the River North and Loop area of Chicago charge the same amount of money for WAY higher quality meat. We had shrimp cocktail and the bistecca stuffed portabella for appetizers. The shrimp cocktail was okay but served in a glass with coleslaw in it, which I found really weird. The other appetizer was completely flavorless and the steak in it was tough like rubber. Then came the steaks. My sisiter and I ordered the 14 oz sirloin, and my dad got the 14 oz filet mignon. I ordered my steak medium rare and my sister medium. Both steaks were overcooked, and I think all the cuts may have been frozen at some point. In any case, they were not fresh cuts of meat by any means, and they were completely flavorless. I'd really love to give this place a higher rating because of the atmosphere (minus the bugs) and service, but the food was so horrible and overpriced that I can't. Appetizers, 3 small steaks, and 2 drinks each for three people made for a bill of almost $200. I could have paid this much or less for a place with way better food, or i could have gone to Lonestar and gotten the same quality food for a quarter of the price. I won't be returning to Krapil's.

"The great steak"? I beg to differ. First we enter the lot. It's just gravel and spray painted over the rocks are yellow lines to park. I sAw a valet parking sign but alas, no valet was to be found. So we venture into the restaurant. We asked for outdoor seating. You can tell once they called the lady over to seat is she was unhappy and immediately shut down the idea. So we took a table in the dining section. I ordered the blackened pork chops with mash and gravy. The beef noodle soup Was very good and very meaty. I thought this restaurant would be amazing. It wasn't. The pork chops were as dry as a bone. I couldn't even eat them. I let my sister take them home Cuz she likes her meat cooked like hockey pucks. The mash were ok and the rolls were good. Too bad I really wanted to like this place.

Wednesday's is half off select bottles of wine! The outdoor patio is great and I heard that there is live entertainment in certain days. I was here for a Blackhawks game and it was great. The pizza was good, thin crust and easy sauce.... I like my pizza a little more sloppy but this was good no complaints. The atmosphere is very nice. I will definitely be back to this place!

It was good. Decent service. Scarlette took care of our table nicely. $5 key lime martini was good. Bone in ribeye hit the spot. My boy had the 24 oz tbone. Loved the garlic mash. Salad was so so. Didn't get any tomatoes. Go figure. They did have garlic dressing. Great outdoor area. Parking Lot kinda crappy. Gravel with lots of holes.

The service the other night was the worst. Are waitress was Christie, she had an attitude from the beginning of coming to our table, after about a 10 min. wait. My husband. myself and a friend were there on Sunday night 9/6/2015. She asked what she could get us to drink, I ordered water, my husband a Gin and tonic. His drink came with no lime, he asked her for one, another 10-15 min went by she came to the table, he asked for the lime, and I asked for a tall water. She looked at me annoyed and said, Im not allowed to give you water in a tall glass. So she never returned with the lime either. Someone finally brought his lime. My husband wanted another drink and lovely Christie was no where to be found so my husband asked the bus person, John I think his name was, If her could get someone to get him a drink, and I asked him for a large water, since I had drank the 3 small tiny waters at our table!! He said no problem. So Christie comes to ask if we needed another drink, and wanted to know where I got the water. REALLY!! that's what your worried about. I thought you are suppose to make your customers happy. We have been going to Krapils since 1981 and it has really gone down hill. The staff is not as friendly and the food is no longer the great steak. I think they should try and go back to treating people like family and give them good food and service. Its to bad because the atmosphere is very nice, that's about all it has goin for them now! You even have to pay for the relish trays now.

First time here. Atmosphere great, nice cool night, beautiful. IPA only $4.00 not bad. We ordered Sandwich and hamburger. Both very good, came with fries. Bus boy brought food, waitress only around to get drinks. Was nice experience and very busy for eight o'clock on a Thursday. Would come back again. Pizza's looked great! Table next to us, larger family waited s very long time for their food, 45 min. The manager bought a round of drinks they left happy. Nice out door setting for guests groups. Music on Friday Saturday Sunday.

I've been here quite a few times but never reviewed it. I have to say the bar area is fun and the bartenders are attentive and cordial. The few times I've ordered food it was quite disappointing. It is extremely overpriced and prepared poorly. They need to pay greater attention to detail when charging the kinds of prices they charge. This part is reserved specifically for the experience I had last night. Upon arrival, we were greeted rudely by the older lady at the check in podium. She had a poor attitude and treated us like we were bothering her. After letting her know we were there for drinks and would be heading to the bar, another older woman scowled at me and asked where I was going. I ignored her and headed straight for the bar. It's unfortunate they believe they can treat people like this. This will be my last visit to Krapil's as there is no reason to go back. Terrible attitude, poor food quality, awful meal value, and a decent bar are not enough to keep customers for life. Good luck.

Thoroughly impressed after recent Friday night dinner. Arriving just around 6 p.m. was no problem as far as being seated. Service from beginning to end was friendly, helpful, and courteous. Drink times were a little slow, as there were multiple occasions where we sat with empty drinks, however it wasn't a total killjoy. Our appetizers consisted of the meatballs and a shrimp cocktail. Between the four of us, there was plenty to go around. Definitely worth their weight. As for dinner, I went the route of the side salad with house dressing, 14 ounce filet, and a baked potato. For $41, it was no doubt a steal. The filet came out cooked perfectly to order (medium rare) and the accompaniment of sauteed onions was icing on the cake. Maybe not the MOST flavorful filet I've ever had, but certainly worth every cent. The baked potato was monstrous, and this was one meal fit for a king. The drinks were stiff, the food was solid, and every one of us departed with smiles on our faces. Good times at Krapil's...especially later on at the bar!

Went hear with family to enjoy the patio watching the Blackhawks Stanley Cup finals game. Cant speak to the restaurant area, as I was not in there. The outdoor patio is awesome. The staff is attentive, and absolutely great!!!!!! Would have given it 5 stars, but the parking lot is in shambles and desperately needs to be repaired.

I went here for a small birthday dinner before Christmas. The food was rather pricey and not worth the money. I ordered my filet mignon medium rare. I expected it to melt in my mouth, but it was a bit chewy instead. The filet mignon came with either baked or garlic smashed potatoes, soup or salad, and an entire cooked onion. I personally think the potatoes were the highlight of my meal. I'm probably biased because I've been to steak restaurants in Chicago, but Krapil's is definitely not my first choice. I personally think that chain restaurants like Longhorn are of a higher quality than Krapil's.

Went friday with no reservations. Sat in the dining room with no wait as the patio had an hour wait. The food was tasty but the experience was so so. Ordered steak medium rare and it was med-well boarder line well. The staff kept refilling the water by grabbing the mouth part of my glass. That was disgusting to me. They dont substitute their potatoes that come with the entree. I dont care for potatoes. They only have one veggie side and it's a rather small side asparagus. Also, they have free valet. This is such a nice surprise when you arrive. With 3 valets working at the time we had a 30 min wait for our car. Bathrooms could be updated...would like to try getting a seat at the patio next time.

We haven't been to Krapil's for several years. After hearing more good than not-so-good reviews from our friends, we wanted to give it a try. Went for an early evening (4:30 p.m.) New Year's eve dinner. The place was packed and, after eating the first bite of my perfectly prepared med-rare filet, I understood why! My wife enjoyed her white fish dinner as well. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. We'll go back... sooner than several years from now!

We come here once every 6-8 months. I don't know what happened between the last time I went, and now, but it has gone really downhill. Cons: -Relish trey is no longer free, which was a bit disappointing. -They gave us 3 small dinner rolls in a large basket, and I am pretty sure they were different type than the last time we all ate there. They seemed cheaper. -The ice tea tasted really watered down, we were later told by our waitress it was not freshly brewed. -Waitress barely checked up on us. I waited between 5-10 minutes for an ice tea refill. -I always order the ribs, which normally are fall off the bone amazing. Now, the meat was chewy, and it really hard to split up the ribs. Even with a knife, it was hard to cut through the meat! -The ribs got cold really fast. I ate 2 ribs and by the time I got to the 3rd it was cold, and I could no longer eat them. Waste of money. -Another person got steak, he also said it was chewy and tasted a lot different than the last time we were there. Plus: Smashed potatoes were really amazing, but that does not make up for the entree being inedible. For the price of the food, it should be (and used to be) better quality. We will not be going back.

We have gone to Krapils for years but after last night .... never again! I could deal with the crowds! Hey its new years eve, what do you expect? What I don't like is being lied to. If it is a 2 hour wait and not the one hour as quoted, they should tell people. Actually 2 hours and 10 minute wait. My husband ordered the 18 oz. Steak and an add on lobster tail for the table to share. When the food arrived the steak was the 8 Oz accompanied with the lobster. When I asked the server why that happened she explained that she saved us $20.00 by ordering it that way. Who asked her to do that? She never offered to remedy the problem. She,also neglected to bring the relish tray we ordered. She also explained that their strip steaks now included a bone. That had changed a few weeks prior. Why change things at this time of year when your customers have other expectations? My steak, which was ordered medium well was raw. My husband insisted I send it back, but not before I ate some. I am regretting this today because I have been sick all night and day with diarrhea. Overall very disatisfied with the experience. If your a drinker maybe you can deal with this place. As a restaurant, this is not the Krapils I have recommended and visited for years. My recommendation is to stear clear from this way overpriced overhyped establishment. The worst money we have spent in a restaurant ever!

When the weather is nice outside, it is lovely to sit on the patio and listen to the live band, if there is one. It can be quite noisy, though, making it very difficult to talk with anyone not sitting right next to you.

We've been going here for over 20 years and my experiences on visits in December and January were so disappointing I signed up for yelp just to write a review. Relish trays always came with the meal and were a favorite of my wife. Now they are an extra cost. Steaks are now bone-in a waste and rip off. Waitress said the bone adds flavor. I can't begin to count the number of reputable articles I've read debunking that myth. Paying for the bone is a joke. They no longer offer 4 sizes of steak. Only small and large. The large is just as expensive as before, but it is not as large. They've decreased the portion sizes on the garlic smashed potatoes. Never felt ripped off there before but we won't go back unless we hear things change.

1000 reviews!!! It's been about 15 years since my last visit. But I have been to the patio bar several times in the past month. The drinks are aces and the food is awesome for the price. They put in a patio that faces 94. But because of the stone wall you really can't hear the cars zooming by. They have a stage for local bands and it gets quite crowded on a weekend. My friend and I had a burger each and several drinks and the bill was ridiculously low. I thought they forgot something. Wonderful atmosphere and the crowd is lively. Great steaks and a great place to hang out.

I have always wanted to check this place out and so glad that i did. This place was great, fun, and had a quality staff and even better food than I thought. The band was a little off but the food kept me from hearing the off toned signer trying to hit his marks. Would go back.

This place used to be the mecca of the southside steak places. Me and my wife went there for dinner on Friday. I would first like to say that the parking lot is way too small and full or drunks stumbling out of the place so watch out. As always the place is run like a chicago park district daycamp. Once the hostess took our name it was hours before we actually sat down . Two differwnt waiters we fighting over our table and.neither one did anything. Once we finally got our meal my steak was burn and my wives was pink. So instead of an apology we had the waitress tell us it was not her fault and the "mexicans" in back fucked it up. Now I have been.going to krapils for many years and it was always great. Now it is run by a bunch of random people , and kind of has the swingers club feel to it. I will never go back and it will probably be out of business in the next couple years.

How I desperately wanted our evening at Krapils to be a 5 star evening but it fell just a bit short!. First the bartender had to look at her back book to make what I would consider for an old fashioned steak house a basic drink- a sidecar! Service was five. Dining room a bit loud. Steaks reasonably priced. Relish tray disappointed from our last time there. There was nothing wrong with anything but there was also nothing special about our dinner there. We thought the bill was very reasonable-7 people $350 with drinks n tip. Just nothing that stood out as either really bad or really good,

I will start this off by saying that we have been going to Krapils for about 11 years, Before the outside garden came and before they were reviewed by channel 9 news. There was a small glitch after the news story because they became overwhelmed for a while. They worked through it and got back on track. The garden is gorgeous ! We were there in February........We were back in April..........Excellent. We were there the end of July, and everything turned to CRAP!!!! It seems that one of the owners has retired or bailed and the new man in charge made some costly mistakes. The service was deplorable at best. 5 people at the table and they brought 3 rolls and 2 pats of butter. My wife never got her salad, but that's nothing Her and I did not get our dinners either, they said the order got lost. The other 3 people got theirs? The relish trays are no longer complimentary, you need to pay now. Prime rib is off the menu, several sized stakes are also off, cocktails went as well as everything else on the menu. You know i can deal with cost increases (no problem). however when everything else goes to hell and none of the Managers seem to give a crap, I'm done. Beware some big changes have happened. Jimmy A. I pass by this place all the time and love how the outside patio isn't directly on the street. So i finally went there with my 4yr old son. First off, it's not kid friendly (no kids menu, smoking allowed outside while eating), The menu is pretty pricey for it not having such great reviews. So I order a Sangria for myself (wasn't all that, I have had WAYYY better and fresher), a grilled cheese for my son(wasn't on the menu), and an OJ for my kiddo. My kid takes the first sip and spits it right out... They gave my kid spoiled orange juice! No apology from a manager, nothing. What if he didn't tell me and drank a whole thing of spoiled oj? Plus they still charged me..... Not sure if I will go back.

My family has visited Krapil's off and on for 50 years. (It was once Mr. Joes Steak House) I enjoy the outside area and the sangria is great. However, the dinner we had this past Wednesday was disappointing . We ordered Surf and Turf, the filet was maybe a half inch thick and the size of the palm of my hand (I have small hands) The lobster a little tough, but ok. The first thing the waitress tells us is that they now charge for the relish tray...$4.00 an entree ! They have a house dressing that has always been great. It used to come on your salad with blue cheese crumbles all over the top. Now it comes on the side, no blue cheese except in the dressing. My husband ordered the filet and said it was ok...not great . I will continue to go to the patio, but will no longer eat in the restaurant ...

I came here for a family gathering last night and I was not impressed. We ended up sitting outside because they were packed, which is usually a good sign. I had my sister in law find someone to ask for a high chair because I have a two year old. She was told that they did not have any high chairs at all. I was shocked because it seemed like a family friendly place and what restaurant doesn't have high chairs or booster seats? I asked our waiter and he said they had some, but they were for inside use only. I was furious at this point. He said that he would go see if there was an extra one I could use anyway. He came back and said they didn't have any left. If you have a toddler, you would know that they don't want to sit on your lap throughout a whole dinner. So that was a nightmare. They had non stop live music going on. It wasn't bad, but it was very loud. I had to yell at the person next to me if I wanted to have a conversation. I ordered a house salad before my meal and it was horrible. The lettuce was all wilted with no crunch to it at all. Next I got an 8oz filet (their menu does not have a large selection). I ordered my steak medium with a side of fries. When my food finally arrived, they gave me my steak with a plain, dry baked potato. I didn't want to wait any longer so I didn't even point out that I ordered fries with my steak. Eventually, the waiter realized that I was supposed to have fries and brought me some. My steak did not taste that great at all. The texture was mushy and weird. Something about it was not right. People in my family that ordered alcoholic drinks waited 10 minutes or more for their drink. It was a horrible experience. I would rather eat at Texas Road House.

Was here this past Saturday for a little reunion. Valet parking was very well set up, organized, and quick. Service was fantastic, we sat outside, how beautiful it was and the set up was gorgeous. They had a band playing old school music, which was perfect, and they were great. Ordered Sauté mushrooms they for sure we're to die for, fries were awesome. Thank you, we will be returning!!!!!

Steak bites that melt in your mouth and not on the plate! I've lived in the Alsip/Worth area for 25 years, and only remember going here once prior to our visit last week. This review is limited to this specific experience in the dining area, our order, and our server for the night. In "sitcom" date night fashion, we decided to be spontaneous and look for a place to dine. After forty-five minutes of driving around town, we realized Krapil's was the place neither had visited as a married couple. Valet parking is available, however, we found a spot as soon as we drove in, and did not use the valet service. We were greeted by a hostesses and seated in the dining area with a fireplace. Picture Paul Bunyan's formal dining room, finished log cabin interior, with a deer head, sail fish, salmon, and more mounted on the walls. Intimacy is quickly lost as this area faces the bar. We are young and adaptable so this was a non-issue. Our server Yvonne, was accommodating, friendly, and gave us great advice on the menu choices. We ordered a bottle of wine (pinot noir, that I did not send back in wine snob fashion), the Steak bites followed by the salmon dinner, and a creme de menthe parfait. The steak bites were prepared medium-rare (the way we like it) and literally melted in our mouth. The salmon was fresh and full of flavor. We savored every bite, including saving some for the next day. Finally, the desert set the mood for continued adventure into the night...Surprisingly, our check was under $100 for the quantity and quality of food. I believe Krapil's has live music as well. So if you are on the South Side and looking for a decent date night, check out Krapil's, for a pleasant surprise. Cheers!

Former employee of Krapils Steakhouse and I do NOT reccomend anyone to eat at this restaurant. First, they recycle those free relish trays and bread baskets. Anything that the customer does not eat is brought back to the kitchen and then used again for the next customer. So beware. The green onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers you are eating could have been sneezed on, dropped on the floor, or touched by someone else. Second, management is very rude and inconsiderate. I would stay far away from this place.

(BAR REVIEW ONLY) Came here yesterday for a bar crawl. When you're pulling in to the parking lot the place does not look like it's going to be anything special, but as you walk either inside or out towards their amahhh-zing patio you realize it's a pretty gorgeous venue for dinner and/or drinks. I'm in love with their patio. Everything was decorated with an upscale-woodsy theme, they had an incredibly large bar, and plenty of large TVs so you didn't have to miss any game that might be on TV during your evening out. Another big plus? Though the weather was nice for us, it looked like they had windows you could close so you were able to use the patio in the rain as well. The service was also great! Our waitress was friendly and quick to get everyone a drink of their choice even though we were all coming and going. Drinks were very fairly priced ($3.50 for a huge glass of Summer Shandy, score!) and $2 domestic bottles on a Friday evening. Based on the service we received in the bar, I would really like to come back and try a dinner out on the patio sometime in the future.

I hadn't been to Krapil's in about 10 years prior to my recent visit. I was drawn to return given the construction of their fairly new outdoor beer garden complete with patio heaters and tables crafted from timber. As I entered, I observed that their dining room was essentially unchanged. I believe you need to present an AARP card to enter. Having said this, I chose to dine outdoors. Wow. Krapil's has a huge patio bar and numerous tables ranging with seating for two to eight. My party was seated and a waitress was quickly dispatched. She was very good and took drink orders without delay. I opted for a Captain and Coke which arrived in a glass just slightly larger than a shot. Really? What would John Tafer say? At least give it to me in a pint. Fill it with ice and you'll save on the booze. Needless to say, I ordered a Summer Shandy for the next round and was pleased with the freshness and proper size of the drink. This is a steak place but I wasn't in the mood for filet so I opted for the prime rib. What arrived was a tasty piece of meat but the fat content was overwhelming. I know that prime rib is hit or miss so that's on me. I'll get the steak next time. Prior to the entree's arrival the waitress brought salads and a small deli plate which was nice. Krapil's has an outdoor sandwich menu which looks very good and is also an option for those seeking something smaller. The appetizer menu is pretty standard. My biggest complaint lies with one of the things that make Krapil's unique: the patio furniture. The tables are crafted from timber. Rumor is that the owner cuts down trees on his own land and makes the patio furniture. This is cool but at the same time bad. Why? I couldn't find a table that was entirely level. Some table are even slanted. Add this to the fact that the furniture is situated on a cobblestone patio and you'll be dizzy. I was looking to put drink coasters under the table legs to balance it. This may not be a big deal but it drives me nuts. I hate having a table shift or bounce whenever I attempt to touch my food. Was Krapil's great? No. Was it good? Yes. Is it a local business that you should support? Yes. Higher end dining establishments are few and far between in the Southland. Give Krapil's a try. Then give it a second try.

Hmmm, let's see. Something positive--the band was great and the patio area is really lovely. It's all downhill from there. We had a lot of people coming in different groups to eat and then enjoy the live music. Our group of 8 arrived at our 7pm reservation and were promptly seated on the patio in a great spot to listen to the band. Drinks were ordered and they took about 15-20 minutes to arrive. We placed our food order at about 730pm. It took more than an hour to be served and it came out spaced over a 20 minute period--no one ate together. My "rare" filet was almost well-done. Really Krapil's? You are a steak joint. I sent it back. 30 minutes later I was served an extremely rare/almost blue steak. Sigh. My friend ordered the barbecued shrimp. It was served uncooked (and it was not grilled, but boiled shrimp with bbq sauce poured over it--yucko). She sent it back and ordered the rib tips. I agree with a lot of other reviews about the steak seasoning. There is none. Although the quality of the meat seems exceptional, the taste is lacking. Two others at the table had the steak salad and said it was pretty good. Other food choices were just okay. My major disappointment was in the service we received (or lack thereof). Our waitress did not attend to our table at all, never apologized for the food that we had to send back, and totally messed up our check and added things we never ordered. She even charged me for two filets (once for the first well-done steak I sent back, and again for the too-rare steak I finally received--WHAT?!?) I am not kidding you when I say it took 1 1/2 hours for her to clear it up. At one point she tried to give me $12 in cash to refund the cost we paid for the extra filet. I looked at her and said "You think your filets cost $12?" Holy $^%! In the meantime, after waiting 45 minutes for water and other drinks, I gave up and went to the bar to request a pitcher and a few glasses. I could go on with how often we had to self-serve, but as long as your not dim like our waitress, you get the picture.

2-stars, because service is just horrible here. Every single server looked pissed and unhappy to be there and it reflected in their attitude toward the patrons. Water was never refilled, waitress nowhere to be found, never checked on the table. I don't know if they are understaffed or overworked - but if you don't like your job, quit. Pretend to look happy and be nice. Food is average, not great. Went with a party of 11 for a bday, had reservatoins outside under the covered patio. We were seated promptly, which was great. The chairs for the outdoor seating are so friggin' comfortable, you just want to chill and not get up. Do not order the meatballs, they are so dry and unedible. Nobody thoguht the food was outstanding, just average. The outdoor patio is AMAZING! Seriously, a great set up out there. Live music on Friday nights. The band wasn't so loud, so you could still talk. The patio is large and just a fun place to be. I would sit out there any night. The crowd is NOT 20's, which I like - more of a 35+. The only problem with the outdoor patio is the smoking. If you don't like it, which I don't, it is a real drawback. Would go back to the patio for sure. If you are in a hurry, and want great service, this is not the place to go. If you just want somewhere nice to sit outside, have a few drinks, and hear good music - head to the patio!

Fair food .... I had a small t-bone it was ok nothing better than I could of made at home, baked potato was old... My wife had salmon and it was very dry.. I was finished eating when my wife's food came out. Typical south side place.

The place looks really cool on the outside. The presentation of the food was horrible. The utensils were dirty and very old looking. The "salad" was mainly composed of inedible veggies. It was also arranged very poorly. The worst part of it all was the steak. It had absolutely NO seasoning what so ever. We asked for medium well and it was still bloody. Sent it back for a "well done" and still nothing. We were so disappointed that no one ordered drinks, took the steaks home and seasoned them there. I will never return, unless I hear they purchased some steak seasoning, fired the "chef" and are using new utensils.

Long wait to be seated in the outdoor area which can be expected at a good place on a Friday night. Waited almost an hour for a couple of burgres and the scallops special. Burgers were ok, but the scallops were terrible and very chewy. Probably will not be back as there are better places in the area.

My wife and I went to Krapil's a few years ago after seeing it on "Chicago's Best" on TV. I had the filet; my wife had the New York strip. My filet was outstanding, not a problem with it at all. My wife, on the other hand, first got her steak underdone and then, when they brought her another steak, it had a big glob of fat and gristle on it. So when these people do it right, they really do it right, but they can mess up, too.

Had not been back for a few years and had heard things were headed downhill. Recently though the feedback was much more positive. So we went. So glad. Yes the interior has not changed -- Great Classic House befitting its rich history. However much lighter and more open (they opened the bar onto the dining room). The new sections with indoor, outdoor patio -- great idea! So let's talk food. I went prime rib -- it was outstanding -- certainly in my top 3-4. my wife went Fillet and was not disappointed. I go med-rare -- The Prime was perfect. Wife likes hers Med-Well -- she too was totally satisfied. We WILL be back when we can sit outside....

Came here for an old fashioned (WAY too strong). Would have loved to sit in their newer portion - looks awesome! Outdoor fire pit, cool bar...but it was so crowded we had to sit at the dark, indoor bar. The stuffed mushrooms were really good, the tuna app was only OK. 106/365

MOST TASTLESS STEAK EVER, I LOVE A GOOD STEAK AND THIS WAS THE WORST. It looks like from reading the other reviews most people agree. Went on 5/7/2013 with my husband this brother and their 86 year aunt who was never there, what a mistake. The food was terrible, was cold, we ordered steak medium came out well done. Will never go back - do not waste your money. Also the woman's restroom was small & dirty. I did write an email to the owner or manager on Monday and never heard back. A respected manager would have responded, nothing. The outside was nice and our waitress Kelly was great over worked as she had several table to attend. I would not recommend to my dog.

This is a fun place in the summertime. The outdoor patio and bar area is large and cool to hangout in. It does get crowded but still worth a trip. Food has been good, I had meatballs and steak salad. That was real good, the steak was cooked perfect and very tasty. I will have to order steak next round. Service has been good, drinks okay. I have been there during the winter months and you can still sit outside, they close the overhead doors. Even had live music. Not a bad place to kick back enjoy some good food and nice atmosphere

This was the third time that I have eaten here. The bathrooms outside are very nice with tile floors and walls with marble sinks. The patio is gorgeous and has a huge fire pit. The bar is also very nice as well. I am surprised that every time that I have been here it has been packed which is odd considering the food is descent and not anything more. You also get a very diverse group of people that come here as well. I would give the atmosphere 4/5 stars. The food and service is a different story. The first time I went I was with a group friends at the bar watching college bowl games and ordered a a sample platter which wasn't bad and would say was better than average. I give it 4/5 stars. The second time I was here I came with a group of three other people and we all got filet mignon. We were not impressed. I thought my steak was ok nothing special. It was a very good piece of meat being tender and juicy but it was very bland with little flavor. I give it 3/5 stars. The third time I went I was with a group of six people. Three of them ordered a small t-bone and said it wasn't bad and had better. The other two ordered the special which was a filet mignon with shrimp and bacon crumbles and I believe it came with a special sauce. They seemed to enjoy it. I didn't feel like spending a ton of money on a meal that would be at best average so I wanted to order something else. There are two different menus. One is for inside and the other is for the patio. The two previous times I was here I ate out in the patio and ordered from both menus. The waitress became snippy and informed me that the menu I was asking for is for the patio only but if I really wanted to order from the other menu I could and she could go get it. Really?!?!?! Hi, my name is the planet Earth, have we met??? No I don't want to order from the other menu that is supposedly for the patio only that is why I specifically asked for it derp a derp. The bill was for nearly $240.00 and she got $50.00 for a tip. Sorry because I ordered a philly steak sandwich and fries you didn't get an extra $10.00 for a tip. The fries were very good and my sandwich was solid 4/5 stars. I guess if you are ordering from the patio menu and coming here for something other then the overpriced steaks it is a descent place to visit.

First time and last time. Our $32 lobster tails were so over cooked we could hardly chew them. One of the steaks ordered was not cooked the way it was ordered and we had to send it back. By the time it was returned to the table the rest of us had finished out meals. The steak was still not cooked right. We were given a free dessert to make up for our ruined meal. We then went over to the beer garden. So many empty tables but they were "reserved". Our party of four was given a beeper. We then watched people with parties of two to four come in and get seated. When I questioned the hostess as to why they were being seated before us, she responded that they had reservations. This place doesn't take reservations for parties under six, and each time people walked in she asked them how many in their party, not their name or reservation number., so she flat out lied to me. We left and we won't return.

i just re-posted what i emailed them: sorry didn't feel like re wording it/ I live in the area but never stopped by before. i checked out the menu online before we went and found you have steaks which we had a taste for when we started talking about food. however, my first impression was kind of sad actually. we got moved three times cause of some party that was going on, the guy that was preforming there was just terrible and really just annoying. when we ordered we started off with drinks. i had a lemon drop and my husband a beer along with the mushrooms for an appetizer. so far so good than we ordered dinner i had the 8 oz filet medium well along with the lobster legs and my husband ordered 24 oz t-bone well done. to start off with we waited what seemed like for ever for our dinner while listening to that terrible music when we finally got our dinner my lobster legs were disgusting and looked really old and my steak was just way way over done when i cut into it which was super hard to do it was even harder to swallow that's how hard it was. the potatoes were cold and just lacked in flavor. on the bright side my husband got a medium well steak that he actually enjoyed even though it wasn't well done like he ordered. i didn't eat any of my food we complained to mike who was our waiter and the only thing he said he can do for us is to take the drinks off our bill which was only $10 and we ended up paying 130.00$. just ridiculous and never going back again even for drinks. thanks for nothing!never recommending the place to anyone but i will mention how terrible the food was and also how not even one manager tried to take care of us. what a waste of our money! just really disappointed.

Old school steak house, no frills or giant skewers of meat cut in front of you. This is the kind of place that generations go to on special occasions. The wait staff is prompt and helpful; they definitely want to make sure you have a great experience. My porterhouse was tender, it had very simple seasoning, but that is how I like it, to be able to taste the beef. If you want a place to unwind with several friends/family members this is the place to go, you can easily make it an all-night occasion going to this place, they are in no hurry to turn your table around, which is not their style. I wish I can give this place 3.5 stars, but will have to settle for 3. For the price of the meal, you'd think you would get more, but I guess you're paying for that service!

Very Good Aged beef, had enough to take home for a meal the next day. Awesome appetizer platter with a good mixture of samples from the menu. From what I hear they just added a new outdoor patio and although we didn't get to sit out there, it was beautiful looking at it. The inside is a bit outdated, however, I can look past this if they give me a good steak, and I did. Would highly recommend to people!!

This is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at during the summer. I prefer eating on the patio. The food is a little cheaper and the ambiance is wonderful. Typically I get the Philly cheese stake sandwich which has yet to disappoint.

I just ate here earlier tonight with my girlfriend. We sat outside to take advantage of the great spring weather. The outdoor dining is the place to be in the spring and summer. They have plenty of outdoor seats, and a L shaped bar that can seat probably close to 25 people. They also have a large beautiful fire pit, and heaters placed all over the outdoor patio area. For dinner I had the lamb chops which was good, while my girlfriend had the wild salmon that she said was very delicious. I have been there about five times now, and each time the staff from the busboy to the management have been very welcoming, and extremely accommodating! They just need to pave their parking lot, (it's half paved, half rocky) which is my only complaint.

Not again. Krapil's used to be legendary - now it is just sad and unaware that it has seen better days. The dark shroud of death known as the dining room was uncomfortable enough, but when blind-double-date couples were seated right next to us - things careened down hill. Imagine trying to have a civilized conversation while four-drippy humpers try to out talk each other using volume as a weapon. They could have been sat anywhere - why would they be sat 4 feet away from us. The steak was ordered medium. It came rare - except the outside was charred so hard it was crunchy. Somehow the garlic mashed potatoes where warm on the outside, cold on the inside. The service was very perfunctory. She never smiled - she rarely checked up on us. She didn't tell me there was a charge for refills on the ice tea. (Who the heck charges for ice-tea refills?) Don't even get me started on the weirdness of the busboys! I wish I hadn't gone because I have such fond memories of the place - now; bupkiss. Life is too short to eat this food.

Have you ever seen those family restaurants on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere? They have big wagon wheels and lamps with shades on them....dead animal heads on the wall and all dark wood saloon chairs? well this is that place from my childhood vacations to the great old state of Indiana. The decor is horrendous, and service was not good. First of all we ordered our apps and she did not come back for 20 mins to take our entree orders! I do have to say that the meat was cooked very well. I on the other hand had the shrimp Dejong which I found out was indigenous to Chicago....who knew? the Shrimp were so over cooked it was like rubber. I am one who believes ambience and food go hand in hand. Our waitress kept calling people hun or darling....which can be endearing the first time but got tiresome after the 50th darlin' The rating is on overall experience and I dont think i will be returning.

Not sure whats worse - the service or the food. Dont waste your time - oh, did I mention its overpriced and the place hasnt been updated since the 70's? If you like walking through gravel parking lots and enjoy being served by rude, uninterested, tattooed waitresses then this is the place for you!

I agree with one other post - CRAP-ILLS!!!! Went there last night - UGH! First of all, so outdated. Hello - Restaurant Impossible and Robert Irvine - this place needs you badly. They have patio seating, where the smokers all go to eat, and the smoke still wafts into the dining area. They sat us at dirty table, also. And as a lot of people on here also state, the service was slow. Sat for ten minutes before someone even came and took our drink order. Water glasses just yucky - mine actually had a butter wrapper stuck on it. No ice, just lukewarm water. As for the food - DOUBLE UGH! Ordered the T-bone, medium rare. Came out rare. Just a big, tasteless slab of meat. Why is it tasteless? Because to get it "seasoned" it costs more. I have been sick all day today, stomach-wise (don't want to go into the gory details). They must really load their steaks up with MSG-laden meat tenderizer - which is why my illness today. My wife had the coconut shrimp, which was an appetizer but she had for her meal - she thanks God today that she didn't have a steak, after seeing my suffering. m Relish trays are disgusting. Cucumbers that are about five days old, just swimming in a vinegar-based something. A few green onions, carrots, celery. Old mushy tomatoes, way past their prime. And then not even a dressing or anything to dip these "vegetables" in! Also, the bread basket - a big joke. A giant basket, holding three measly rolls. Stay home and cook your own steak. If this place is hurting so bad to serve old vegetables, can't use ice, they should rethink staying open. Really. Save yourself the embarrassment.

The food is good, the way they offer the size of their steaks is awesome. The food is good, a bit old school but heck, it's the SS. Why 5 stars? The beer garden, best place to catch rays or a fire pit on the SS, enjoy some good food and the BEST place to catch a game, the ambiance gives the 5 stars. I love it.

Worst server we've ever had, anywhere, in my lifetime. I have never not tipped in my life, never, until tonight. I was a waitress in college so I totally understand and always tip very well. This woman was appalling rude and mean. Between the eye rolling and her cold behavior I've decided she got what she deserved and we will never go back to Krapil's ever again. Why was she so rude? Because we had two kids with us. I honestly think that's what it was, because I don't know what else we could've done to receive such treatment. I would post the server's name here, except we never knew it, because she never told us, nor did she even say hello. She was the oldest worker inside, short white hair, slender, with a perma-scowl on her face. I give Krapil's 1 star because the hostesses were really nice. They really were. There was a wait for the patio, so they told us we could be seated inside with no wait and still order off the same menu. She saw the kids with us and did her best to be accommodating. And when I say kids - they are 15 and 10, not toddlers, and not obnoxious kids. I haven't been to Krapil's in 17 years, but we were given a gift card so we went as a family to try it out. We were seated with only the Dining Menu which 3 of us weren't interested in, but it was 10 minutes before our waitress paid any attention to us. The dining room wasn't even close to being full, and there were 3 other servers working the room. The waitress came up and first said "Did you want something from the bar?" We said no thank you, ordered iced teas, and asked for the patio menu. She hesitated, *awkward pause* and replied "Well, I mean, I guess you can." That was her Eyeroll #1. Looking back now I know those were 3 immediate 3 strikes against us = No booze, kids, and patio menu. She was bent we weren't going to have a large bill. She continued to treat us throughout the next 1.5 hours like we were unwelcome. I felt like a hostage at our dinner table. The kids were very well behaved, but hungry. Everyone around us seemed to be having a good time and were very well taken care of, but then again, they were mostly older, overweight, men ordering monster dinners including steaks. After about 20 minutes of being at the table, the waitress came to take our order. Before I could say the first sentence, she cut me off and ran to another table who apparently needed her assistance. When she finally came back she saw the look on my face of "what just happened?" she gave me Eyeroll #2 and told me she would've done that for our table too, if needed. I have no idea what she meant. It was weird and rude. We ordered an app, and the kids and I ordered sandwiches while my husband ordered an 18oz steak. We watched two tables near us be seated, served, eat, pay, and leave before we even got our meal. I can't understand why our meal took so long, as it was 3 sandwiches and 1 steak. I honestly think she didn't put our order in as fast as she did the others. My sandwich order was Eyeroll #3, because when we asked for Patio menus, she only brought two for the kids. At one point, before the meal came out, our teas and waters were gone (all the glasses are very old school - small, thin, cocktail size) and she never came by to check on us. When we finally were able to flag her down, I asked her if the 4 of us could have refills on our drinks. She gave Eyeroll #4. She grabbed a water pitcher, sloppily filled our water glasses, mumbled something about a "nightmare" and walked away. No iced teas. We laughed to each other after a while. It was like our nasty grandmother said we couldn't have any more. My husband said his steak was the blandest he's ever had. He didn't finish it, which says a lot. The sandwiches were just OK. when we were finally able to flag her down after dinner and ask for the check, our bill was $88. We had a $100 gift card. We threw the gift card in the check fold and walked out. I'm sorry you're not able to retire and you hate your job and children. Thanks for ruining our dinner.

"Children are not encouraged, but they are not discouraged either" is the response I received when I asked about bringing our toddler. Glad I called because they don't offer high chairs. Atmosphere was comfortable, but filled with smoke from the fireplace - hey, that happens from time to time, so not sure if it just happened while we were there or if it is a regular experience, so it was understandable. Crab cakes- GROSS. Imitation crab most likely from the can. Soup- really good! Salmon- way overdone. Steak... a lot of it, but not that flavorful. The staff was friendly, sort of.. they seem to think that this is a high end steakhouse, and it really isn't. The prices are WAY too high for the caliber of food that leaves the kitchen.

I tried Krapil's for the first time in October when my boyfriend and I were looking for a good steak in the burbs. He mentioned that a deck was recently added so we thought we would give it a shot. We ended up eating at the bar and had a fabulous meal and great service! On Christmas Eve we decided to try it again. We called and were told that we didn't need reservations. When we got there, we were told the wait was close to an hour (which was fine because we love to sit at the bar and wait). When we were called to our table, it was literally a tiny table that was set up in middle of the room. My boyfriend is 6'8" and a big guy. Not only did we not fit at our table but it was in middle of the room and felt like we had a spot light on us. Our server was a real sweetheart and took one look at us and said she would move us. This is when the hostess (who must be the owner's wife because she is always dressed up and barking orders at others) came by and told us that if she moved us, it would cause someone else to wait for a table. She asked me if this is what I wanted - IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE DINING ROOM. I was so embarrassed that I actually starting crying (I am sure the martinis on an empty stomach didn't help). Needless to say, we cancelled our order and left. While the food is actually pretty great, we will NEVER return. I still can't believe that we were treated so poorly by someone who is an owner/manager. We watched this lady be rude to many others while we sat at the bar on both occasions but were still shocked that she was so awful when we made a polite and reasonable request. Lately we have been going to Petey's which has fantastic steaks and fantastic service at a much better price.

We had been to this place twice before and had a great experience and some good steaks. The only thing they under cooked our steaks. (We ordered medium got rare). We brought our adult children to Krapls on Weds for dinner and it was horrible. We all ordered steaks. They were under seasoned and my husband ordered a strip steak and it looked and tasted like a round steak! We waited what seemed like an hour for our food. All tables around us were getting their food as we sat patiently for ours. The server got snotty with my husband when he asked if there was a new kitchen staff because of the wait and piece of horse meat he was served. ( We tip 20 - 25% she was lucky that we left 15% for her). Bottom line: poor service, poor quality on some food, long wait on food, and no free refills on ice filled soda @ 3.00 ea. The patio area was nice. We will not return and will try Jenny's.

My boyfriend and I went out for a late dinner. We've been eating steak all week in celebration of our new jobs! So we got the chicken and full-slab of ribs. Our waitress was clearly upset we didn't order steaks or seafood and wasn't afraid to show it. My chicken was dry and my potatoes were literally cold, didn't even taste like had been under a heat lamp... Overall this place stunk, even the music was poor. I'll never go back.

Well needed update, please read my previous review for dining inside. New killer patio area. Irony has struck very hard here, possibly the coolest outdoor dining in the South Burbs. Not quite finished yet, but open nonetheless. From split log fencing, copper gutters and bar to stone work, fire pit and a casual sandwich menu you would never guess the old stodgy dark wood and animal head restaurant was right inside the door. Don't get me wrong, I love this place. It is so old school it may become cool soon. I came in for a fathers day steak, we get the usual, the 48 oz. Porterhouse, comes with two baked potatoes, salad/soup, bread and relish tray. Beer is $2.75, a hot tea was .75 as was my kids lemonade. They could certainly use a few more beers other than the low end domestic choices. My kids split a NY strip, it was a touch overcooked, but this being their busiest day, a new patio, and a temp staff, I gave them some leeway. The sides were great, the steak was rich and exactly what I wanted. To make the most of your visit here are a few pointers, Only order the steaks, (The new sandwiches looked pretty damn good and I will check it out soon.) Sitting in the sun with a couple cold ones and a sammy is in my future. If you are hard core like me, bring your own sea salt and pepper mill, apparently Krapils can age a steak, but they haven't figured out how to season one yet. Make sure all your pan juices don't go to waste, on my first visit the veteran waitress poured the meat juices over our potato, I wanted to hug her. This has not happened again and it may have been a fluke. If your steak pan is full of juicy goodness do not let them go to waste. Ask for your onion to be well done, they grill and roast an onion half, lately it has been a touch under what I am used too. Once again, an amazing bargain, 48oz Porterhouse, 12oz NY strip, three salads, bread, veggie tray, two beers and two lemonades $85. As far as the quality of the meat here, in my last 5 visits it has been on par of the best Chicago steak houses twice. Two other times it has been average, but the meat always has a rich flavor and is quite tender. Avoid the wine choices, we are on the South side after all. Don't worry about getting dessert, they really have nothing to offer.

We went here in summer with two other couples. This is the kind of place that I really want to like but I just couldn't. My steak was prepared properly, not tough but was the most lackluster piece of meat that I've had at a restaurant. The sides are just average.

Laid-back supper club atmosphere with a great menu. This is NOT a swanky steak place (e.g., Morton's), but an iconic southwest suburb joint with a comfortable northern Wisconsin atmosphere and pretty decent menu. Great list of appetizers (try the meatballs or garlic bread), and menu features more than steak (chicken, selection of fish). Meals come with mini salads (what's the name for these?) for the table, soup or salad, choice of potato. Love the bar menu - who else still knows how to make a Brandy Alexander or a Grasshopper? They've added on a patio too - can't wait to see it in the summer!

I am surprised to see all these bad reviews, really enjoyed my experience at Krapils except for a few service related factors. The server we had was a bit slow and seemed to have no knowledge of the (very short) wine list. Otherwise, the food was really great. My boyfriend and I both ordered filet and they were tender, cooked just right and very flavorful. Dinner comes with a relish tray (raw crunchy veggies, radishes, carrots, etc.) The soup it came with was exceptionally tasty (cheese with sausage, yum) and the smashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms were seasoned just right. The decor of this place reminds me of the 70's with dark paneling, with a kind of North-woods feel. Not the hippest place but if you're looking for a great steak I believe Krapils is totally worth a visit.

I'm extremely surprised to see all the negative comments. My wife and I love coming here especially during the summer. Granted, when its crowded, the wait staff tends to be busy but it wasn't like they didn't come by to check on us every 10 minutes. The most we've ever had to wait for a waitress to come back was 10 minutes or so. Let's talk food. My wife and I both get the surf and turf except instead of lobster, we get the crab legs. We both get the filet, baked potato, and the crab legs. The filet is incredible (she gets hers well done and I get mine done medium). Each bite is flavorful and tender. The crab legs are ten times better though. The only downside to the crab is that is turns cold after a few minutes but the hot butter suffices needless to say. The crab legs are sliced in half for your convenience which makes it great that you don't have to crack and work at getting the meat out. The crabmeat is very tender and sweet and quite possibly the best crab legs I've ever had, including crab at Jack Gibbons Steakhouse, Morton's downtown, and Chicago Chophouse. I highly recommend it and will continue to go back.

I have been getting tired of places like this, the so called hot spots in the South suburbs. I have been driving by this place for years, so we tried it out on a busy night. Their little trick is that you have at least five in your party to make reservations, so if it was only four people you have to wait a long time for a table. Much like Jennies down the street, this place is full of so called regulars that are treated special, newbies be damned. Got stuck in a booth so small we had to suck in our guts the whole time. The steaks were nothing special, high priced, and the service was horrible.

We were seated next to a table of 8 over 70-year old women; that pretty much says it all. Krapil's has a tired old menu, a very old clientele, and a tired, dingy looking dining area. My steak was a 3-of-10 at best. My baked potato came so drenched in butter that you couldn't even taste that it was a potato. We received so many tomatoes and cucumbers in a relish tray for our salads that my first thought was to wonder if they recycled them from other guests -- would they really throw out that many veggies with each guest? Service was cheery and good, but it just couldn't make up for the rest of the experience.

We were excited to have a nice dinner outside with GNO (girls night out), the patio is gorgeous. I even stated after we were seated "if the food is good, then this is our new place." It is difficult to find a nice restaurant between Orland Park and Chicago for everyone to meet with equal driving distance. We should have known it was not going to go well when we were seated in lawn chairs that were to tall for the TINY table. We had to sit sideways so our legs didn't bang into the person across from you. Waitress-no idea of her name, never given, specials-never given, soup-we had to ask what kind they had, Relish tray, salads and bread all came out at the same time. Then our dinners but our salad plates were never taken away so now we are trying to clean up this TINY table in order to eat our dinners. Our waitress never came over to refill. She looked annoyed and did not want to be working. Two filets ordered, butterflied-one half all fat, the other filet was dry and tasteless, only one bite taken. I ordered a t-bone $26.95-it was full of fat, dry, no seasoning!! When the waitress came back to clean the table from dinner and drop the check, she didn't even question why all of our steaks were still on our plates. We ate potatoes and onions for dinner. SERIUOUSLY I COULD COOK A BETTER STEAK FROM JEWEL ON MY OWN GRILL. SOOOOOOOOOOO DISAPPOINTED. WILL NEVER RETURN. I WISH WE WOULD HAVE READ THE OTHER REVIEWS AND SAVED OURSELVES ALOT OF MONEY AND HAD A FUN GNO!!!

This was my first time at Krapils. My husband and I stopped there for some drinks and appetizers on our way downtown. We ordered the stuffed portabella bistecca. This is mushroom caps stuffed with filet mignon, caramelized onions, roasted yellow peppers, and plum tomatoes. Although all those ingredients may be in there, they were rather bland. The menu description does not fit what is put on the plate. It wasn't really bad, but I love stuffed mushrooms and I felt they were just so so. I wouldn't order them again. We also had the sampler platter. On account of the variety of foods in this dish, your tastebuds have a little more to work with so its a bit more satisfying. I guess for the prices we paid, I expected the food to be more than just OK. Service wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Overall, I'd say Krapils is so so. Its a beautiful place, very cozy and outdoorsy but they need to give those cooks a red bull or something. Make the food taste as appealing as the menu descriptions sound. I almost felt as if I was fooled when I left there.

The dryest pork chop I ever had and they were reluctant to compensate. The waitress was rude. Said it was hard to cook a porkchop right! You're a highend restaurant that cooks meat! You should be able to prepare a good Pork Chop. I'll stick with Hog Wild. The food blows this place away.

On Friday, July 19, four of us went to Krapil's for a birthday dinner. Since it was 97 degrees that day, we opted to eat inside and then we were going to go outside for drinks and listen to the band. When I opened my napkin, a bug crawled out. One of our guests ordered the 13 oz. filet rare and it was chewy and tasteless. Unbelievable. Our server was just average. We finished our dinner and went out to the patio, which is beautiful and quite large. There were many, many tables open and some had reserved signs and some did not. We sat at a high top without a sign and ordered drinks from the bar. Shortly thereafter a hostess came up to us and asked if we had been seated there. We explained that we seated ourselves at a table without a reserved sign. She informed us that all the tables outside were reserved for diners and there was a wait list. We asked why there were empty tables if there were people waiting for a table. She said they were inside waiting. Didn't make sense then and doesn't now. We had spent almost $200 and were told that we could not sit anywhere on the patio except at the bar. She apologized and said she would see what she could do. She never came back. We left and all four of us told the hostess that the customer service was terrible and we would never be back.

One of the worst steaks I have ever eaten, their rolls were like something you get at ALDI, their sides suck, the service was fair, Then came the steaks, undercooked and really tough and flavorless which got even tougher went I sent it back , I practically needed a saws all to cut that steak , The place is called Krapils and their food is Shitake

OK, I read the reviews and I was worried. I have not been to Krapils in 15 years, I just do not eat a lot of red meat. My daughter went there a few weeks ago and told me she had a great time and the food was very good. I went there tonight with two other people. We all had the 12 oz T-bone. The salad and relish tray was fresh and good. The service was prompt. The steaks came within 20 minutes of ordering. I can say the steaks were made to order and were very good, tasty, aged. Now it wasn't Mortons or Gibsons for sure, but for $27 bucks for a 12 oz aged T-bone, baked potato, salad, relish tray and bread, come on, it was well worth it. I eat steak about once a month out. I do like Louies Chop House and now I like Krapils. Krapils is way better then Jennies Steaks. I just do not understand the bad reviews that I have seen here. maybe you were there on an off night? I do not want to cast stones on someones review, but maybe you don't get out very often? The bathrooms were clean by the way. I had a Manhatten and it was fine in an appropriate glass size. I am baffled by the bad reviews. I questioned my daughter's review and I hesitated. I am glad I went there and I would go again. I ate inside. Yes, it is dated, dark Northern woods paneling look. There are other contemporary places that a person can dine if they want, but many want this atmosphere. I thought it was Ok and the establishment clean. I had a look at the outdoor patio/garden and it looked great. A great party with entertainment going on. I would encourage you to dine there. I really do not think you would be disappointed. My dinner guests agree with my review.

I have had good times here, and Ive had.. interesting times here. Its usually a treat for me and my husband to go here. It can be inconsistent with its service and the atmosphere. The food is stellar however, its always spot on. I would say its of course a 5 star meal. We usually get the fillet Mignon. Last time i went was a Saturday night it was about an hour wait time to be seated but its expected to have a wait time anywhere you go at that time on a weekend. We were finally seated at one of the tables in the middle of the room. Seems like on a busy night theres alot going on in that little amount of space. The table of people next to us was uncomfortably close in my opinion. The table behind us was extremely loud, Then at some point a customer was being seated at a booth next to us. The lady sits down and shoves the table forward and leaves no space for her husband to sit down. Apparently she was to big to fit in the booth. Looking at it I thought it was a bit of a snug fit. She made a scene about "not being fat" (wasn't skinny though either) However they ended up leaving as the restaurant couldn't accommodate them anywhere else. then the staff of 3-4 kept standing around it talking about the incident, one was getting in and out of the booth. This little get together of the staff was elbow distance from me. I felt like it could of been handled a little more respectful then that. It was like we were getting a dinner and a show, when all we wanted was dinner and polite conversation. My waitress was MIA most of our stay and I had trouble getting here attention. Ran out of my drink halfway through appetizers and couldn't get it refilled until I was partially done with my main course. I politely asked for a refill and it may just be me but she kind of made a face like it was going to inconvenience her. 10 minutes later I got my refill. That was that last and worst experience I have had at this place. If I hadn't had other experiences at this location that were good I would of thrown this place a 1 star.

Went on a busy Saturday night. One hour wait for seats on the patio so we ate inside (immediate seating). It took several minutes for our server to come and take our drink order. We commented about how hot it was in the back room (the fireplace was lit) our waitress laughed and did not offer us other seats. The men at our table both ordered old fashions (which they had had here once before and were good). When noting to our server they were undrinkable she did not take them back or offer another drink. We were also charged for these drinks that were undrinkable. Taking in consideration my last visit and this latest one I'd have to say that this place has a service issue. Nothing was brought to our table in a timely manner...we had to ask 2X for water refills (asked our server - she forgot- busboy came by and it took him about 5 more minutes to find us water). We had to flag the waitress down for drink refills - she never came back and checked. I'm sorry I can no longer recommend this place to anyone. There are many good steak places in the area with much better service for the $.

What a nice experience! Dry-aged steaks are hard to find and worth the drive. As another reviewer noted, seasoning on the meat is lacking. The baked onion was delicious, and the french fries were fresh-cut and cooked to a perfect dark brown. Yummy! Thanks to the employee at Trader Joe's who turned us on to this place. It's a bargain compared to downtown steakhouses and feels like a real south suburbs family hangout with lots of regulars. The staff was efficient and friendly. If it hadn't been such a hot, muggy evening we would have sat outside because it looked so inviting. We'll definitely be coming back!

Meat and potatoes. Krapil's is one of those restaurants that has been the same for the past 20 years. There's something reassuring about the terrible lighting, smoky 80's style bar (complete with a piano), and various animal heads mounted on the walls. The entire menu is on a placemat. A paper placemat. They offer several different cuts of steak, ranging in size form "petite" (8-12 oz.) to "extra large" (40+ oz). It is insane. Delicious, but insane. I've seen my dad put down 30 ounces of beefy goodness and never been more disgusted.. or proud. I can't go to Krapil's without thinking of the episode of the Simpons where Homer becomes a trucker after his opponent in a steak eating contest dies. I half expect two waitresses to amble past carrying a 100-ounce steak.. Wait. I'm pretty sure that's happened! I've never tried anything else on the menu besides steak, other than the parfait, the only option for dessert, which is probably the same as it was 20 years ago. I'm pretty sure it's blasphemy to go to Krapil's and have fish or pork. There's a reason people love this place--it's comforting and heart attack inducing.

The outdoor area is fabulous. Great style, music and food. I have been recommending it to friends as a much needed "trendy" place on the south side. Meet friends here.

Anyone that gives this place a bad rating, must be from the competition. I drive 20 miles to go to this place. The best steak value in Chicago.

We went here to eat before heading to the movies. We are from the southside and heard great things about their steak. Well not so much. My husband ordered the filet and I ordered the Strip steak. Their house dressing is not very good for the salad and the service was slower than I have ever experienced. Our waitress wasn't lazy by any means but not the quickest. We waited almost 20 minutes for drinks both times. Our meal arrived and my hubby couldn't believe how bad it was. So I took a bite of his steak and it was horrible. We have NEVER sent food back before but we had to. We ate mine because it wasn't as dry but still very tasteless. Hi steak was so dry, crumbly and tasteless that I can't believe they are known for steaks. The waitress took the steak back and said that she would talk to the manager about taking it off of our bill. She returned with our bill with the filet taken off the bill. Not one manager came by to apologize or ask what was wrong with it to advise the cook. I guess one less customer doesn't matter to them. We gave it two stars because the remodel is nice and we ate on the back heated patio. Too bad we won't be able to experience it in the summer as we will not be back. Also they only take reservations for parties of 5 or more. Wait time was 45mins for the main dining room and no wait time for the patio and this was on a Saturday night at 6pm.

Very old style place. Gotta love the steal relish trays. Steak was o.k. A little tough. Meatballs were good.

This is one of the better steak houses in the SW burbs so be prepared to wait for a bit if you go here during prime time without a reservation. They have a cozy dining room that has just the right amount of soft lighting that makes this a good place to take a date. Plus the noise levels are bearable where you can have a good conversation. Plus the crowd is typically a little older and not as rambunctious. The menu offers several different steaks but you order your cut either as Small, Medium, Large, or X-Large! Since I eat like am animal to begin with I ordered the XL Porterhouse. The steak weighed in at over three pounds. I was in carnivore heaven. It was prepared nice an bloody as I requested it too! It was a delicious cut of meet! The wait staff is very effective and made sure that we were well taken care of. The prices are not going to be cheap but for what you get they are well worth it. They have a full bar bar and a gargantuan wine selection!

When here for the first time for my mom's birthday. Pulled up to a newly landscaped parking lot and entrance area, which was beautiful. I could see the patio which look newly updated with heat lamps and misters coming off the building, I have never seen that except in palm springs, That was a nice addition since people were actually sitting outside on a 100 degree day. The staff was friendly and seated up in the back where it was cooler. Our waiter was very personable and nice. The atmosphere reminds me of a little native american/alaska/wisonsin/christmas feel. I ordered the steak special. The restaurant gave me a very nostalgic feel with vegetable relish trays, and drinks served from the bar. My steak was cooked to perfection and was one of the best steaks I ever ate, and my sister agreed with me as well, Our waiter informed us that they cut the steaks from the whole slab, trim the fat, then weigh them as you order, Being from Palos Hills my family and I are always looking for a good quality restaurant, and I think we found one.

Large and great steaks! The prices are fabulous compared to the city. The pork chops are also excellent - - they cook them plain, bbq, or with spices. The bbq and spices are great! The waitstaff is pleasant, but the the restaurant is a little loud, as there are a lot of tables in a small space.
