I've tried 5 AYCE Friday night fish fries in the northeastern corner of DuPage County and Tomczak's is the undisputed winner. Tomczak's offers you a choice of 3 kinds of beer-battered fish; Perch, Cod & Catfish. They are all good and each of them is better than any other fish fry in the area. My favorite is the Catfish, but the Cod is a very close second. It all depends on whether you like a lighter or more bold flavored fish. An AYCE Catfish basket is $9 and you can get Labatt's & Lite on tap or a $2 PBR Tall Boy. I noticed posters for Revolution Anti-hero (in cans) and Bell's Oberon Ale (bottles) so you can grab a craft brew if you prefer. Same Northwoods tavern atmosphere, same great food, same great value and same friendly service. With a combination like that, why would you settle for a crappy fish fry? "Ain't nobody got time for that..."
This is the best fish fry I've had in this area! Tiny place that looks like it's straight out of Wisconsin. Mounted fish all over the wall. Wood paneling. Old school bar. Can also do some gambling there now. I also recommend the shrimp. They're huge!
Very good perch, old school vibe, best fish fry yet - not too much breading and not too heavy. All you can eat for around 10 bucks.

Great atmosphere, great live music, great drinks, great staffs, great place to hang out! Decoration of the lounge is special, very tropical. The Pina Colada that I have ordered was so good, they made it all fresh! My friend ordered some raspberry golden pineapple martinis and he really loved it. We picked this place based on the recommendations on Yelp, it turned out way better than what we have expected. We had great time and thanks Kona kai for it :)
The staff is great! Very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is amazing. The decorations are what prompted me to visit. But, the drink prices are a little ridiculous... Like Chicago priced drinks. Very little food offerings. Chicken strips appetizer were four skinny little things - don't recommend them. This place has a lot of potential, they just need to make some changes. They need to have deals during the weekdays. More food items must be added. The drink prices need to be reduced by at least 1/3, but probably 1/2. Again, fantastic service.
Aloha! Kona Kai is my favorite local lounge. The decor is awesome. The staff is attentive and genuinely friendly. I like the variety of tropical drinks they offer. The Hawaiian Pizza is very delicious. I have been to the Kona Kai several times and have never been disappointed. I would highly recommend this lounge to anyone looking for a relaxing, yet fun night out.

Our Memorial Day plans were cancelled due to the weather (hey, it's Chicago, you have to expect that!) so we decided to come here for dinner. 7 people, 5 of them at least partly Polish. Everyone loved the food, including the German and Italian diners in our party. 4 people had the Highlander potato pancake and loved it; only 1 person (a guy, I might add) could finish it. One person had the stuffed cabbages in mushroom sauce, another had the pork tenderloin escallops and I had the Ziewont (or Giewont) cutlet. The escallops were as might be expected - smallish slices of pork tenderloin on top of the dumpings (potatoes are an option). The Ziewont cutlet was a softball-sized round breaded pork tenderloin inside of which was ham and melted cheese, which oozed out when you cut into the tenderloin. Choice of potatoes or horsehoof dumplings - I had the latter. The 7th person in our party wasn't really hungry, so she had a bowl of the chicken soup and said it was good. Everyone else started with the pickle soup, which came with dinner. The non-Polish people in our party loved the food just as much as the Polish people did. Everyone left satisfied, most of us with leftovers. I've mentioned the pokey service before; it was a little better today. Maybe it was because we had 6 pm reservations, and U Gazdy closed at 8? I usually park in front, but parked in the back this time and saw the outdoor seating - picnic tables with umbrellas. If it wasn't raining the day we were there, I would have suggested sitting there. The only inconvenience (a minor one) was that they would only split the check in 2 - we had 7 people and wanted 5 separate checks - so everyone just paid in cash. I thought this might be helpful to know, so you can bring cash if everyone is used to paying by credit or debit card.
Was in town for business from Dallas and needed some comfort food. Wanted mashed potatoes and gravy but knew I should have some protein, too. Their menu looked good so I drove over to get dinner to go. The owner's father-in-law took my order and was really helpful with my choices. Walked out with a very tender pork shank, buttery dumplings, flavorful mushroom gravy, and delicious sauerkraut. Should have tried a Polish beer while waiting but did not have a designated driver. They have well-stocked full bar. Restaurant was full with many laughing groups which added to the fun atmosphere. Can't wait to bring coworkers here as there are many more menu items I want to try!
What a delightful Polish restaurant with a wonderful (and large) menu! We took our Polish grandmother here as a surprise and she really enjoyed speaking Polish with our server, who was so very kind I'm sorry I don't remember his name. There was a large baby shower party in the restaurant at the time so we had to wait a short time for a table but in 5 quick minutes we were seated. Despite the large party in the restaurant our food came out quickly and the service was attentive. We tried the pierogis (best sauerkraut & mushroom ones I've ever had!) as a starter to share. Topped with crispy crumbled bacon with a side of sour cream they hit the spot & you can choose a combo of 2 kinds on your order. They also bring warm bread with a side of bacon drippings to slather on the bread - to those who haven't had it before it might not sound good but try it - it's delicious. You will thank me, though your arteries may not...but it's worth a try for sure. I do not recall the names of the 3 entrees we had but we all absolutely loved our meals. Oh, and our meals came with a choice of soup - we all had their mushroom soup which was like a combo between a broth and cream based soup with big slices of mushroom in it. Oh so good! We'll definitely be back to try some other items on the menu as there are so many delicious choices it was hard to decide.

Customer Service 1 star; Food 4 stars. review total: 2.5 stars. The short summary of this visit was that customer service can really make or break a restaurant trip. The second note, was that even if your customers are not "regulars" they should all be treated like "regulars" if you want repeat business. I realize that this place makes a ton off their pizza as it is -- but as a family who does not get out that often -- visits like this make me not want to go out at all. It's not worth the frustration. We wanted to try White Cottage Pizza "inside" so we could see what the pizza was like since they'd donated pizzas to our kids' school and we really enjoyed it. So when we got there we were confused that there was this restaurant. We saw the carryout entrance for the pizza, then realized that White Cottage really doesn't have it's own eat in area -- it's connected to this Italian Restaurant. Once we figured that out, we got in to the waiting area. There was no host/hostess. So we waited. And waited. About 5 minutes later of just standing their awkwardly with a couple of other parties, the busser came out and says to the party in front of us, "How many you got?" They responded 4 people. I was expecting to then also be asked about our party. He didn't even look at me and went back into the restaurant. He told the party in front of us it would be about 5 minutes. And then returned to the restaurant. About 10 minutes that party in front of us finally sat down. The busser came out and asked us how many people to which we responded 4. He looked in the restaurant and said about 5-6 minutes. Right then a gentleman came in, a regular, stands in front of us and says that he needs a table for 7 people. The lady who had come out said that they would break up the large table that was there to seat them. My husband pointed out that we were there before that guy. So they sat us down. And that guy sat with his party next to us. At this point I was already ticked off because of the lack of even getting greeted. We sit at the table. We see the servers walking by us, not even looking at our table. At this point I am wondering if we are even going to get water. 5-7 minutes later -- the guy with the party of 7 at this point already had their drinks and bread and we had still not even been acknowledged THAT WE WERE SITTING THERE. To sum up the rest of this crappy experience, we ordered a 16 inch pizza, we got a 14 inch pizza. We basically had to beg to get our drinks refilled. It was so loud in there you had to raise your voice to talk to each other. It was totally frustrating. You cannot use White Cottage Coupons in the restaurant, only in the carry out area -- so we ordered a small pizza from the carryout afterwards since the size of the pizza had been incorrect with our dinner. It wasn't worth waiting in there for it. At that point I was just over it. So all in all, get the pizza via Carry Out if you want it. Don't waste your time going in - at least on a busy weekend night - unless you want to get frustrated and feel like you are totally invisible.
Been going here for years, always great!! Best vodka cream sauce in the area. Nice atmosphere - quaint dinning experience. Pretty much tried everything on the menu - all good!
Great little place. Very close to the Marriott Courtyard, which is just a little north up Wood Dale Rd. Minimal, but decent, wine list, and some really great food and wonderful service. Would highly recommend to biz travelers who happen to be staying at the Marriott Courtyard or the Double Tree, and who are looking for a quality, inexpensive meal at a non-chain restaurant.

Thought I'd give Marino's another try and order something different. First time, I ordered their thin crust pizza and felt it was decent and O.K., but not impressed enough to want to order pizza here again... (see first review for more info). A week or so ago I tried the baked caprese panzerotti and 'homemade' gnocchi in vodka sauce. I heard the gnocchi was very good, so decided why not? I craved a little pasta anyway. I was told there was an hour wait when I called, but order arrived in 30 minutes! Excellent! Was very happy and appreciated the unexpected 'fast service'. Gnocchi came w/ piece of fresh, crusty bread and extra parmesan cheese. Portion was enough for two. As excited as I was to try this, I was really disappointed - the gnocchi was very 'dense', starchy, and the more I ate, the heavier it felt in my tummy. It was not in the least 'light' or 'soft and slightly tender'...but quite the opposite. The vodka sauce was tasty. Being Italian and having tasted many gnocchi dishes, I was hoping for a much lighter texture. Would I order this again? NO. After a few bites, the rest went home with a friend as did the side order of meatballs. After a quick taste, I wondered if they had be 'sitting around' for awhile, and something was off-putting in 'flavor'..not sure if it was the ground meat, or the seasoning. On the bland side as well. The baked panzerotti (caprese - fresh mozzarella, fresh plum tomatoes & fresh basil) was actually VERY GOOD compared to other Italian/American restaurants I've tried offering 'non-traditional' panzerotti's. Dough had a slightly charred exterior, texture was light & tender, cooked perfectly. The size was close to authentic & not the size of a football! The filling was pretty delicious. All ingredients married perfectly without being overpowering. Perfect amount of fresh basil, fresh plum tomato & ooey gooey mozzarella without the saltiness. Simple, fresh ingredients is the key here. I would TOTALLY order this again.... 4 stars for super fast delivery when I was told 1 hour, and for a simply delicious caprese panzerotti, that didn't make me feel like a Heffer after eating it all in one sitting!
$8.60 for an Italian beef with cheese and sweet peepers but no fries. Wow this place is expensive. Go to portillos instead for beef. Salads are decent at least (the chicken was small and thin, which we paid extra for)
Definitely one of best places to eat and the food is exceptionally good! This place is another great restaurant to add to my list. When we walked in to Marino's I could smell how wonderful the food was and when I tasted it, it was every bit of wonderful I expected. So I will definitely recommend them to my friends and family. Just because it's a great experience and I think my family will love the food here. I think I will be returning very soon and if not my wife works a few miles away so take out is an definitely an option.

I've worked with this Sweet Baby Rays, and I have to say the Wait Staff that they provided was rude and ignorant! I would never refer the food or the services to anyone! It's all about a great fun party, but believe me, I didn't have fun!
Love this location better than any of the other sweet baby ray locations. Homey atmosphere. Southern BBQ feel to the place. Of course the food is awesome!
Excellent bbq. The best I found around this part of the state. Very reasonable pricing as well.

Great pizza and great service!!!! I have been going there for 40 years now and the food has always been good... Enjoy
White Cottage used to be my favorite but the last few years, it seems to have gone downhill a little. Their cheese seems tasteless and there is hardly any sauce on the pizza at all. A dry pizza makes for a bad pizza in my opinion. The pizza is just okay lately which is why I gave it the three star,A-OK rating. Not sure what happened but I am disappointed.
Recently my wife and I were recommended to go to White Cottage for pizza. Seeing that we are always up for trying new pizza we decided to venture out on a rainy Friday night. I was pleasantly surprised by the inside of this restaurant, it had that comfortable atmosphere that had you inside but convinced you were in a courtyard. We came for pizza but decided to try a few things to see what else they had to offer. First we had some of the focaccia bread they had to offer and I could have made a meal out of that and a bottle of wine! We started out with stuffed mushrooms, out of the norm for us, and both found them to be above average. Simply stuffed with sausage and drizzled with oil, they were a hit but not a light app. We then had a pizza and gnocchi in vodka sauce. The gnocchi was as good as you are going to find and the portion was perfect for 2 with some pizza or just for someone alone. The pizza was some of the best we have found in the area, generous (but not too much) of all the toppings and great cheese (even better the next day!) What tops the whole experience was the excellent service we got from George. All the regulars seems to like George and we could see why, attentive but not over bearing and extremely pleasant and cheerful. I honestly would never have found this place but I am so glad were heard about it and went. We will certainly return and be more adventurous on the menu in that I have no doubt they will be able to execute anything they have to the highest level!
