I originally posted this review on 8/21/2012, but for whatever reason, Yelp decided I was spam and blocked it. Well, F#*$ you Yelp! I love this place and I'm letting people know it. And despite the fact that now I live in Los Angeles, I will be going back here the next time I'm in town...and Yelp can't stop me! So here it is (at least until they spam me again...and isn't spam delicious??): "I've been here twice now, once for the buffet and once for dinner. The buffet is hands down the best Indian buffet I've been to. The food is always fresh, there is a good variety and it tastes great! You can usually tell how good (or average) a place is going to be by the quality of their naan. Taste Of India has fantastic naan. It's hot and fresh and soft and pillowy...YUM! Also, I love their Gulab Jamun. I've had a lot of soggy, not so delicious iterations of these Indian doughnuts, but Taste of India nails it. They are warm and fresh, with this great texture that I've never had before. I highly recommend coming here to get the buffet, but if you are there on a day they don't have it, you can always get the "Chef's Special" dinner, which is a combination platter that includes a variety of entrees, naan, rice and dessert. It's a great dinner and the food is tasty. They get bonus points for having great a great host too. We were going to leave tonight when we realized they didn't have the buffet every day, but he came outside and talked us into trying that Chef's Special. I'm glad he did. It was delicious!"

Ive never seen an Indian restaurant in US serve Paneer Bhurji or Vegetable Stew. Food was well made and warm

The buffet is very small with limited choices. About 3 meat choices and 3 vegetarian. They do not serve plain steamed basmati with the buffet. You have to ask for is separately and it's cold and hard..not fresh in other words. The service is spotty and the place lacks cleaning. I won't be back.

Mutter paneer seemed store bought and heated. The naan was delicious and seemed freshly prepared. Dinner for 1 person is around $20 (dish, naan, rice, soup) without beverage. Staff is friendly.

Normally I'm not one to get excited for Indian food, but having discovered Taste of India, all that is behind me. It was actually my wife, a longtime-lover of all foods Indian, who discovered the place and yesterday she took me here for lunch. I wasn't expecting to like it. We had the lunch buffet. I loaded my plate with a variety of things that I didn't really recognize or understand, expecting to like about half of them. Guess what? I loved everything. I still don't know what it all is, but everything was delicious. The flavors were wonderful, the textures were nice, and everything was spiced and seasoned just right. The friendly staff kept our water glasses full, and I left beyond full myself. Do yourself a flavor and explore something new. Expand your tastebuds and give them a try. You can't help but find SOMETHING you love here. (Oh, and don't skip the warm basket of naan they bring to your table. It's some of the best I've ever had.)

Absolutely amazing service. I've had better curry but the red chicken is absolutely amazing and so is the naan bread. Definitely will come back!!!

Good Lunch buffet, went there with the family. Everyone got to try a little bit of something which was a bonus for the kids. Chicken 65 was a hit

Since I discovered Taste of India around 2010, it has become a fixture in my life. I've searched the western suburbs for a tastier, more authentic indian restaurant, and cannot find one. It is better than many Indian restaurants I have had in Chicago proper. The food is delicious, the service diligent, and the owners lovely. Once, the owner accidentally gave us anther tables bill. Realizing his mistake, he chased us out to the car and corrected the mistake. The difference between the bills was less than $1. If you need help choosing a dish, they have good advice to give. We visit Taste of India for many of our celebrations. Try the Aloo Gobi. Their naan is great. It is conveniently located. I have nothing negative to say.

This is one of my family's regular places - we eat there and often pick up our favorite dishes to eat at home. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the prices are reasonable. The buffet is good and has both vegetarian and meat options. The menu items are even better, with standouts being the garlic naan and chicken tikka. However, I think they would do better to remove the "chicken tikka" from the buffet or give it another name because it's not at all representative of the wonderful chicken tikka they can really make! Overall it is a tasty place we will continue to visit.

The dinner buffet has lots of offerings! But be forewarned, the dinner buffet closes an hour before the restaurant closes. The salad bar is good sized. Entrees are hot and freshly prepared. The naan was wonderful. There were two desserts on buffet, but I opted to order my favorite Indian dessert from the menu, a hot carrot and cinnamon dish. Many alcohol options are available. Free parking.

Hit the lunch buffet while visiting from out of town. Indian buffets are a staple for me, and I think this is one of the nicer ones I've been to. The choices are many and varied, and everything is presented nicely. The flavors were delicious and service was great. I had my 3 year old with me and she was welcome as well. The one thing I'd say is that the chicken took a masala was on the dry side, but the sauce was among the best Ive had. The tandoori chicken was fine, so having only gone once I didn't feel I needed to be too judgemental on this (i still ate it!). I don't eat wheat anymore so I couldn't have the naan, but it looked spectacular and I loved that it's not on the buffet, but rather brought to the table. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in town.

Went for the lunch buffet, stayed for the naan! The lunch buffet ($9.99) has about 12 hot entree dishes, 2 desserts, and a salad bar. I didn't have 1 bad dish while I was here. The tandoori chicken and the chicken 65 were the stars of the show. The saag, naan a few other select dishes were excellent as well. The only dish I was not pleasantly surprised was chicken tikka masala, it was not what I am used to however still good. My coworker commented this was the best Indian food he has ever had, and I agree. It blows Jaipur out of the water! I will be back in the very near future!

Yum! The chicken stuffed naan was delicious and my chicken biryani was very tasty! I wanted to eat more, but was too stuffed. Staff were friendly and service was great!

The closest place to my childhood home, and the place I always go for Indian if I have a chance, although I live further away now! I've always been for lunch. The buffet is always well stocked, and the naan is always fresh and fabulous. I've only had a rude server once, but I think he was just having a bad day, and the women who serve you are always super nice. They are willing to leave a carafe of water if you want (my best friend and I usually drink through our water faster than anyone can ever keep up!) Will go back again and again!

A must for any diabolical flavor conquest. The lunch buffet, tho not huge has many distinct Indian flavors on any day I been there often resulting in multiple foodgasms. Chicken tiki marshal, delicious desserts that I can not name but stuffed my face full of, and even a little salad bar that I honest walk right pass every time. A haven of spicy strong bold decadent flavors that even the strongest flavor conquistadors will succumb to.

All the above good reviews are by non-Indians who probably have not eaten at good Indian restaurants or have acquired bad taste and bad behavior of typical phony Indian restaurants. This place sucks and have very bad and foul smelling food. If you are good Indian food lover and likes to eat something "fresh", "tasteful" and "genuine" Indian food - please avoid eating at this restaurant. I have myself found bugs around buffet table and sweaty chefs/servers with no hygiene conscience whatsoever. When we entered the restaurant with two kids, we needed a good table to seat 4 persons. The pea-brain server lady asked us to squish each other together on table of 2 while pushing two chairs on sides just because we are with kids. My kid had nut allergies but they totally refused to prepare the dish without nuts. I am a foodie and loves to eat various cuisines - but by far whatever we ordered - did not taste like even 10% close to name of the dish it said. I am definitely not going there again.

I have dined and picked up food from the Taste of India many times. Their food quality is consistently good. They're able to customize my order based on spice levels. Their buffets are consistently good as well. It's great that they have a banquet hall as well.

Buffet is excellent. Naan is great. Finish with a mango lassi and saffron syrup donuts.

I stopped in for the lunch buffet today after years of friends telling me to make a visit. The restaurant consists of two rooms. One smallish room where the entrance, a few tables and the restrooms are, and a larger space with the buffet and several other tables. My server brought me some hot naan after my first run at the buffet. The bread was lightly charred, warm and delicious. On my three journeys to the buffet, I came away with these impressions: The chicken 65 was my favorite - delicious and spicy chicken chunks with onion and green pepper. I also liked the chicken tandoori. The chicken was well seasoned and piping hot, though I would have liked to had meatier wings - these were pretty scrawny with as much skin as flesh. The chicken tikka masala was also to my liking. The rich sauce and hearty chunks of chicken worked well together. The lunch buffet is available on weekends (a little bit unusual) as is a dinner buffet for $3 more. I'm glad to have a high-quality Indian buffet in the area. I hope next time I visit, they will have a vindaloo on the buffet (with thanks to Red Dwarf for pointing me in the right direction).

If I have ever been to an Indian restaurant, I don't remember. My son was leaving town for a job in California and he wanted a "going away" dinner at Taste of India. He loves the place, and was even there earlier in the week. We went there early on Monday. There were very few people there. The host (owner?) was very pleasant and paid a lot of attention to us. Because of my inexperience, I can't pretend to judge how authentic the food is. I had the Tandoori platter and enjoyed it. The chicken was dry (overcooked, at least by my standards), but my son told me that is typical and he ate it. My wife and daughter are vegetarians and ordered each ordered a vegetarian platter, where they got three small entrees and various sauces. They loved it and I enjoyed the bits I sampled. Another son ordered a lamb chili. He asked for it "spicy." I was concerned, having heard stories about spicy Indian food, but the owner assured me that it would be no spicier than spicy Chinese food. He was right. They gave us plenty of naan and even extra dessert. So in summary, the food was pretty good and the service was excellent. We will be back.

  • Lauren Q.

We love this place. The food quality during the weekend buffets is probably the best I've had, and the price is reasonable. Sometimes you have to wait a little for fresh naan if they're busy. Only "complaint" is our water glasses seemed dirty one time. They have a party room.

  • C R.

Food was is really good with a wide selection. The service could be better. We are vegetarian and they had many great options on the buffet.

The wife and I aren't fans of Indian food per se but wanted to try something different. We opted for the buffet. There was plenty to choose from, it all seemed fresh and quite tasty. Don't be thrown off by the locale and ambiance (its in a boring/non description strip mall). Well be back!

I went to the lunch buffet around 1pm on a Monday because I was having my car maintained at the nearby dealership. Service was prompt and courteous but the environment was drab. It wasn't busy aside from 3 tables eating there and I decided to have the buffet. It wasn't a great buffet but neither was it bad. I tried all of the dishes and even the salad bar. I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor of the various dishes. I was however disappointed with the chicken dishes. They were definitely old because they were tough and not because they were overcooked but rather because they had been reheated. I would suggest that if you come here you order off the menu to get the freshest food despite the temptation of variety from the buffet. Had a wine and beer selection which I wasn't in the mood to try. Give it a try cause it seems promising but don't be surprised if it isn't bustling at the lunch hour.

  • Sand H.

The lunch buffet was really good. Especially the lamb curry and chicken 65. Make sure you reach at least 30-40 min before they close their buffet. Definitely will visit again.

  • Zach J.

If you have a sensitive digestive system, be warned that you may have digestive problems for a whole day the next day. I was sick all day the next day after eating here but it was not food poisoning, because I know the difference since I have had food poisoning a few times in my life. They make the food with lots of fiber and a good amount of spice, so be for warned if you have a sensitive system like me be ready for pain LOL. Please do not trash this place if you get an upset system from here, it is natural and many people have a tough time with Indian food. This place is really good, but a buffett can be overwhelming for the inexperienced Indian food consumer.

This review is for the lunch buffet. This is one of two go-to spots for our lunch outings when we want a good Indian buffet. This one is pretty consistent, and I'm generally very happy with the offerings. The naan is delicious, their chicken tikka masala (when it's on the buffet) is tasty, as is the Chicken 65. Hot Tandoori chicken brought to the table, natch. Delicious, and a decent value.

Went here one evening during the week. The food was still good, but portions were a lot smaller than they used to be. And the online menu is a couple of dollars cheaper than the real price charged! We also went back at the weekend for the buffet, That is still good quality and reasonably priced. Gave them 4 stars because of the buffet, if judged just on the ala carte menu then would only get 3 at the most.

As many years as I lived in Willowbrook, I didn't begin to patronize Taste of India until the last six months or so that I lived there. I wish I hadn't waited so long! I always did carryout -- I especially got hooked on the non-vegetarian special dinner. It comes with a great variety of tandoori-prepared meats along with a couple of tasty side dishes and some naan, rice, and dessert. A very tasty meal! The dining area didn't appear to be anything special but worked OK for the typical strip mall restaurant. That doesn't detract from the quality of the food, though! Service was always courteous, too. Taste of India is one of the things I miss about Willowbrook after having moved out of state six months ago.

I finally found an Indian resturaunt close to my house. We went there for Valentines Day, since I had been craving good indian food. It was deliciious. We had the buffet, mango lassis and naan. All delicious, all perfect. I'll be taking my mother there while she's in town since she's never had Indian Food before. I believe Taste of India will leave her with a good impression.

Came in for dinner tonight at the recommendation of a friend who has enjoyed the lunch buffet. The dinner buffet is around $12 - there aren't a huge number of choices but it was more than enough for me. The 65 chicken (chicken 65?) was pretty tasty and the naan was not bad. You're kind of crammed in at the tables in the main room but it works and the service is pretty friendly and fast enough. It seems like some stuff was a bit slower to be replenished but everything was good and I think, even though it is kind of far away, I would give it some additional tries. Tasty.

They have some Indo-chinese that definitely make it pretty awesome. A-OK. While the decor isnt any thing extra ordinary the food was pretty tasty. They seemed a lil short staffed but it worked out just fine since we were there as the rush was clearing out.

Great lunch buffet. I love tanduri chicken and also other food and sauces are notable. They should offer garlic nan bread as well. They need to install new carpeting in here ASAP.

5 star food, 0 star service. Asked 3 times for naan... It was delivered to all tables around us 2 time, but we were skipped. Asked for check, server literally came to our table with a check in hand... But not ours. Asked if we wanted water, we stated again no just the check. He comes back an fills our water. Great dinner could have been a half hour deal, took almost two due to being neglected by staff... And no naan!

  • Pete G.

One of the best Indian places that I have went to. Their naan is the best.

  • Ann K.

Really well prepared food. Enjoyed the lunch buffet. Had at least a dozen items plus two desserts (honey soaked donuts - don't miss) and salad bar.

4 stars for the food. Service is inconsistent. Depends on who serves you. I suggest they serve Coke in cans because the pop their serving isnt the greatest. All in all, great food!

  • Annn F.

I brought 3 people for dinner here. The employees were nice but I thought the food-while plentiful-was kinda not that great and there were two children sitting behind us who were making bird noises and maybe on another day I would have found that sweet and charming but I was waiting for their mother to make them stop.

We finally made it in here. We came for the lunch buffet. there were quite a few options. I loaded up my plate with a little bit of almost everything. I enjoyed the naan and the raita, and the green chile sauce, and some tamarind sauce. Amazing. The tikka masala was okay, a little bland in my opinion. The tandori chicken was pretty good, small wings, and as another reviewer mentioned, a little dry. But they were tasty. The chicken 65 was my favorite entree on the buffet. It has quite a bit of kick, but not too much. I"ve never tried anything like it. There were some kind of paneer, I wasn't wowed. They were a little overcooked, or maybe they'd sat out too long? Hard to chew, or even cut. There was a potato and cheese nugget, almost like tater tots, but they look like poppers. These were amazing, especially dipped in the raita. The stand out for me, was the dessert. It was heavenly. I had the gulab jamun. These are amazing. They look like donut holes, but they are a thousand times better. just...omg. try them. Honestly, this would have been a four star review, until I noticed a few other reviewers also mentioned it. The staff does indeed stare and watch you eat. It is very unwelcoming and kind of unnerving. It's almost like they're glaring at you, trying to will you to leave. I was hoping maybe it was just me, but since other people noticed it too... The bottom line? we'll come back, but maybe for take out or something.

  • Anuj S.

I just went to a party that had catering from Taste of India. I've also been to the restaurant before. I'd say the catering was good. The bhindi was was kind of OK. The paneer was good. The chhole were great. They also ordered punjabi kurdi, but I didn't try that. So on average, it was good food. I think to be fair, you gotta go to the restaurant and try the food order directly from the menu. Even buffets don't sometimes give you a fair representation of the food, cuz its not always the freshest. Anyways, based on my experience, I would try it out in-person.

My friend and I decided to grab a late dinner on a weeknight. When we arrived, the staff seemed really mad at us and it was obvious they wanted to close early. We apologized and even offered to leave if they were closing, but they told us to sit and proceeded to rush us through ordering drinks and food. After we sat down, more people showed up, but they still seemed upset with us. Aside from the sassy wait staff, the food was pretty good. The naan bread is excellent as is the tikka masala. When we asked the waiter to split the check for us, he rolled his eyes and muttered things under his breath right at us. We didn't understand what he was saying, but we knew it was time to leave. Great food, but we'll never feel welcome to come back.

If you are looking for a lunch buffet and are in the Willowbrook area, I would recommend this place. From the outside it looks like its closed all the time, but when you go in there are many seating options. The buffet has many choices and all so very tasty. I was impressed with the flavors and the price! I was full off of one plate but felt like since it was a buffet I needed to go up for more food! So I did! Sooo stuffed leaving! The servers bring out fresh naan rather than it being out on the buffet line. This I prefer. I will surely come again when I'm out that way going to Target!

  • Shelly V.

Visited late on a weekday, right before the kitchen was about to close. We ordered our food and didn't have to wait long. The Chicken Tikki Masala was very flavorful and the other dishes served at the table were prepared well and eaten with gusto. I have been happy with take-out there too. Good place for Indian when in the area.

My friend and I were in mood for some Indian food. So we decided to go there it is off I-55 so it was perfect to get back to where ever we wanted to get to. Anyways the food was really fresh and tasty. Especially the naan love it. The food is absolutely awesome. The service was great even though it was lunch time and packed. They refilled the buffet frequently and was always clean. They could work on ambiance but overall awesome people and delicious food!!!!

I can now say that I have finally found a great Indian restaurant to go to! I have been so bummed out with other places that I have been to. I hit up the buffet which is kinda rare for me, because those generally are not for me. I am also used to getting homemade food from friends, and so maybe I am harsh on restaurants. Anywho, I tried everything from curried lamb to tandoori chicken to other dishes I cannot remember the names of. Shame on me for that one! The chicken 65 was good, but it was a wet dish, and I prefer mine a little drier than that. The naan was good! I recommend this place totally!

anybody who enjoys indian food, has to love an indian buffet. but where do you go for dinner buffet? every place is always lunch but no dinner. and this is why yelp is awesome. can it get any better than having it on your iphone and traveling and finding yummy places to eat? i love yelp!!! so i'm really in the mood for indian and i don't want to spend a lot of money but i want a variety too. plug indian dinner buffet into yelp and looky, looky,. taste of india pops up. ok, let's try it. this place is great. plenty of options on the buffet. and hot fresh naan. the only negative was the tandoori chicken did not come fresh and hot to your table as they usually do in other indian buffet places. other than that, they had a great selection of entrees. plenty of stuff too to make a vegetarian happy. and yes, those donut ball thingies someone mentions, are awesome. this is a place i will go to often.

First time at Indian Cuisine, and it won't be the last. Stopped in to try the lunch buffet with the Mrs.. Seeing how I can't ever remember eating Indian food, I wanted to try as much as I could. First look around everything seemed to be pretty clean. We hit the buffet and were surprised to see their fairly large selection of food, especially for $10. Everything was fresh and well cooked. Most of the food passed our initial gag reflex taste test LOL. Tried the Indian pickles, and quickly decided that would be the last Indian pickle I ever ate. Aside from that, all of the chicken dishes were pretty good. The Chicken Tandoori, Chicken 65, and Chicken Tikka Masala were cooked well, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The goat meat was flavorful, very tender and almost melted in my mouth. After trying all of this and then the Mattar Paneer...let's just say the Taste of India made a new friend. "Dessert" was a bit difficult for these novice Indian Cuisine taste-testers, but it we survived. The food, the price, the atmosphere, everything worked well. Can't put my finger on what exactly was missing and stopping me from giving it a 5-star rating, but it won't stop me from coming back for more in the NEAR future.

I've been going to Taste of India with my family for years now, and it's easily one of our favorite restaurants. The buffet is AWESOME and is very reasonably priced. We just show up, take off our coats, and immediately grab a plate. We've eaten at a number of different Indian restaurants over the past 20 years, and Taste of India is definitely our all-time favorite. Highly recommended!

I have eaten here twice now. The first was the lunch buffet. What impressed be was not only the flavor and consistency of the food, but the bounty of it. This is the most extensive buffet I have ever seen. Easily 3 times the variety of choices that I have ever experienced. They even had several pickles to choose from. I love pickled dishes. Their Naan was possibly the best I have ever had. Just the right amount of tandoori oven char, fluffy warm and perfectly brushed with ghee. Tonight I ordered Mattar Paneer and Naan. Again the Naan is perfect. The Mattar Paneer is the right level of spice for my medium request. Next time I will order spicy, I needed to gage their spice level accuracy. The gravy ratio to peas and cheese is perfectly balanced. My only advice to this lovely establishment is this..If someone orders take out, keep in mind that it may not be take home. I am visiting for work there for have no utensils or napkins. This means I am attempting to enjoy this goodness using Kleenex as a napkin and a plastic hotel cup as a spoon. Also the lovely people who work there are attentive. The woman who took my order must have read the other review about hovering because she went to the back of the second dining room. Not a very busy dinner crowd. There was one other couple and me waiting for my take out. Lunch seems more popular. Here is an idea, what if they offered buffet dinners on Friday and Saturday nights?

In my new quest to find the best Indian food in the Chicago area I decided to try the buffet here while I was in the area. Upon entering I see a large table of Indian people..good sign. I was the only other person in there..not so good sign. The buffet was large and there were many selections. Everything I had was really tasty and spiced well. After I filled up my plate I came back to find a big basket of fluffy naan wating for me...it was sooo good. The two people working there kind of creeped me out though because they sorta just stared at me while I ate...maybe because I was the only person in there after the Indians left. Weird. Overall, good food and if I am in that area again I will go back for sure.

  • Anthony S.

Definitely another one of the better Indian places in the Chicago area, for some reason they just don't have good Indian places in the city proper and I'm not sure why. The buffet during the week is pretty good, when I have a craving for indian during lunch time I usually head here even through they don't change up their buffet selection that much. Their Chicken Tikka Masala, which is almost always one of the buffet selections, is excellent. They also have a really good goat curry, which would be even better if it didn't contain bones. The buffet includes naan and usually they have tandori chicken as one of the items in the buffet selection. To truly appreciate this restaurant I would suggest coming at dinner time, when you have to order off the menu. One of the things that struck me about Taste of india, is of all the Indian restaurants in Chicago, this place has the best pompodoms and reminded me most of the pompodoms at the curry houses I've frequented in London. When picking an entrée I tend to go with their Butter Chicken, which is really tasty or the Lamb Vindaloo, which is also quite good. Don't forget to order naan! It comes separate at dinner time, you may also want to order rice depending on your taste preferences. For dessert, try the Glub Jamin, Kheer, Gajjar Ka Halwa or Mango Kulfi (Ice Cream).

This was my first real experience with this cuisine so my friend suggested this place since they had a buffet with many things to try. We ordered a few beers and attacked the many selections.. The names of the food escape me, but I enjoyed it and will go back to enjoy again if in the area, Good service and easy to get to is a huge bonus.

Been coming here since they opened. Buffet is EXCELLENT but prices and portions on regular menu are overpriced. Not enough combo options like at some Indian places. Go for the buffet and you'll be pleased.

Went there for dinner, the food is Americanized, yet pricey.

My parents and I ate here a couple of days ago for the dinner buffet. There was a good size crowd for a Friday night. The food wasn't as good as I expected it to be. This was really disappointing because the restaurant is in a great location. Even though the burners were keeping the food warm there were pockets of cold food in the tray. The quality was meh rather than outstanding. We tasted all the vegetarian offerings and sadly there were none that stood out as a quality dish. Who knows maybe the non-veg dishes are better than the veg dishes. There were 3 desert options and they were really gross. They had something that looked like mango custard but it was really like a mango puree with some sliced grapes and apples thrown into it. The other deserts were kheer and gulab jamun. I'm not sure about you, but trying a milk based desert which clearly looked like no one tried since they put it out is not something I want to put in my stomach. The gulab jamun were okay, nothing great.

I was very disappointed with my meal and the service. The bread was very greasy, to the point where it was dripping all over the place. There's not enough wax paper in the place to keep it contained. The food was very eh, I had the Tikka Masala, it was flavorless. The beer was good, Taj Mahal, so that was something. The service was really bad, I was the only person in the restaurant and I saw my server twice, once to order, once for food. I had to hunt down someone else for my check. I had the feeling that I wasn't really welcome or wanted in the place. I've eaten at a lot of places on Devon Avenue, I worked in Downers Grove, this was kind of on the way home, so I thought I'd try it. I'm not planning on trying it again.

My office goes to lunch there a lot, it's a popular spot. The lunch buffet is consistent, flavorful, delicious, and I eat so much I want to sleep off the rest of the afternoon.

We've been going to this indian restaurant from before my daughter was born. We've kept on coming for the past six years about once very month or two. This is one of our favorite restaurants. The buffet is always above excellent. The Naan, Somosas, Tandori Chicken, Saag Paneer, Mango Lassi, desserts -- everything is consistently great. Since we're semi-regulars, we've gotten to know some of the staff (my daughter has a favorite waiter) and they always make us feel super-welcome. On the few occasions when I've had Indian food elsewhere (usually while traveling), I'm reminded of just how good the food is here. Kudos to Taste of India - one of my family's favorite places for a night out.

Food here is excellent and well priced. We usually go for the buffet dinner on Fri-Sun which is an amazing bargain at only $10. Place is very kid friendly and they're always really nice to us and our 6 year old. Mango lassis are excellent and my husband loves the samosas with tamarind chutney. Some dishes that really shine are the saag paneer (spinach and cheese), benghan bartha (eggplant) and chicken korma, but all the dishes are good. The naan is always fresh and delicious. My husband loves the galub jamoon (sweet cheese based dessert) though I prefer the kheer (sweetened rice and milk dessert flavored with cardamom). The decor is a bit underwhelming as is the salad bar, but the hot food and friendly staff more than make up for it.

Review is for lunch buffet: This place pretty much defines just ok/standard Indian food in my eyes. Granted I've been there when they have not had my favorites served at the buffet, although apparently they rotate dishes frequently (daily I'd guess). I miss two things at this place: 1) papudum + chutney... non existent in the buffet. 2) They serve saag corn instead of saag paneer, one of my favorites. Come on people, cheese beats corn any day! Everything was hot and seemingly fresh last time I was there, which is nice as it is not too crowded at lunchtime. It's probably a 2.5 star buffet, but I'll bump it up for being an oasis in a sea of increasing sameness. I'll continue to check it out and likely give it a chance for dinner sometime as well.

Wow. I struck gold a mere six blocks from my hotel on this one. Intended to drive all the way to Devon Avenue to get some Indian on my trip to the Chicago western burbs (30+ minutes) and just didn't feel like running around an unknown town in the dark looking for a good Indian restaurant and, if even possible, with a buffet. This was the closest place (less than a mile off I-55) and it has a weekend dinner buffet (OMG!!). Won't even need to bother finding Devon Avenue now. Excellent service (staff was very friendly, more than helpful and even came over to my table to talk to me), fantastic food with a good selection, unbelieveable price in this day and age, and I found a new favorite dessert. A die-hard fan of kheer for 20 years, their ras malai made kheer pale by comparison. Clean, good atmosphere, cloth napkins, and even decent Indian pop music for your listening enjoyment. I will be back, every time I come to Chicago, from now on. Thinking I need to go back tomorrow night before I head home too...

We always loved coming to Taste of India. The buffet always has samosas and the naan is always good. When we went this time the server came up and asked us if we wanted anything to drink and we ordered two mango lasses. It was just yogurt and mango ice cream mixed. Too much yogurt. Anyways ther server asked us how old my daughter was. Every time we come in they never ask and charge only half price for my 9 year old daughter. We assumed they would this time as well. We got the bill and they charged full price for my daughter. Now, you may think that's fair until you see how much food my daughter ate. She had one piece of chicken, some rice, and she ate a piece of the naan that was brought to our table. We decided not to tip, paid and left. We walked out to the parking lot and as my wife and daughter were getting in the car the waiter came up and accused us of stealing the check. I had him open the bill fold and showed him the receipt I signed. He demanded the other one back. I had already tore it up and put it in the trash can. After I explained that to him he starting asking for a tip. We explained that over charging for my daughters meal was his tip. He then walked away upset. The food is fine, but the service is awful.

I'm picky when it comes to Indian food.. I know what I like and what I dont like. Fortunately for me Taste of India serves consistenetly good food in a fast, easy, inexpensive way. The food is not too spicy or too oily and not overwhelmed with masala etc. in an effort to fancify the food. The food is mainly Punjabi/North Indian cuisine... altho im not sure but they may serve dosas etc as well. They have a greatlunch buffet for anyone who is newer to Indian food and wants to sample the more popular dishes. Our family often calls ahead and orders somosas or tandoori chicken for take out. If you are in the area try them, you wont be dissapointed!

Great buffet under $10. Good variety of items, tastefully made. Love the gulabjamoon on the dessert menu. Very friendly staff. Never had any regular entrees here so cannot jump to five stars at the moment.

I went to the Indian Palace with my family for a Sunday lunch buffet. We were treated VERY RUDELY from the moment we walked into the place. We asked for a table for 5 and they gave us a table for 4 and walked away before we were seated. The waiter brought three glasses of water and left two of us w/o drinks and never came back to refill the glasses. When we finally got a chance to ask for two more glasses of water the waiter came and plopped two glasses and a pitcher of ice water down at the end of the tableand walked away w/o pouring the water for the two ladies w/o water. Then they brought the check and took our debit card for payment, but brought back a receipt in which they had charged more than the check had been. The only time the waiter came to check on us was when he came and stood by our table and mumbled "we are closed, leave now." I am not kidding! There are five people and counting whom I know will not go back. Ever! The food was OK, but I've had much better Indian food elsewhere without the rudeness.

Seems alot of people have discovered this place for lunch. The buffet is very good, alot of veggie dishes. The naan is very good. I agree with Joel S. Bring back the saag paneer! Had the saag paneer and keema mutter on one of our 1st visits for the lunch buffet. Have yet to see them again on the buffet. We do like this place, although after going to Gaylord in Schaumburg, it's a tough call.

Interesting lunch buffet. Nice assortment that constantly changes. I especially like the goat meat and a dish they call "vegetable stew". Nothing fancy, just decent food at a cheap price. I originally only gave them 3 stars, but my opinion of them has improved over the past several months. Their food is usually mild, and great for introducing newcomers to the taste adventures of Indian food without all the heat. Only wish that simple tea would be included with the buffet.
