This place is amazing. I've been there a handful of times and have never been disappointed. The setting is pretty nice, a bit dim and comforting with great servers. The pork belly appetizer is a full-fledged flavor party in your mouth. There's nothing I could suggest to improve it. I've also had the regular burger and it is so juicy and delicious that you won't even reach for ketchup. The absolute best thing on the menu is the Neat Burger. It comes open-faced with a fried duck egg sitting on top of the burger side like a beautiful work of art. The other side of the bun is covered with crispy shallots. When you combine the two sides and take your first bite it is like when all the Captain Planet kids' powers combined. Combine the delicious food on the menu with a very tempting cocktail list (try any of the whiskey concoctions if you are looking for some punch), scotch and bourbon flights, and an impressively diverse and imposing beer list for a must-visit new restaurant.

Came here on a cold Wednesday evening. When we were seated by the window, my first thought was "Wow, it's drafty in here." We asked to be moved to a table that was more towards the center or back of the restaurant so that it was warmer. When we were seated at our new table in the center, it wasn't better at all. I sat there turning my head left, right, up and down wondering where the heck the draft was coming from. Atmosphere is very chill and kind of dimly lit. The tables and chairs are pretty spaced out from each other, and there's a big empty space in the middle between the entrance and the tables. It wasn't busy when we went, so we didn't have to share our server with a whole bunch of tables. He was pretty attentive but not to the point where he was breathing down our necks. We ordered the Neat burger, three fish tacos and a side of asparagus. All three items were pretty good. The fish was just a tad bit on the dry side. So why the one star deduction? I chose this restaurant with the intention of ordering three shrimp tacos as listed on their website menu. Drove all the way to the restaurant and found out that their taco menu was almost completely different from the website! They need to update their website menu. I want my shrimp tacos! :( Overall, I would recommend this place, but dress warmly when you come here in the winter.

I stopped in for dinner last week at this neighborhood spot and was very impressed with my dinner. I had the Salmon with some type of Pesto and I must say it was the best seafood item I've had the pleasure of tasting. I ordered it medium-rare and it was perfectly cooked. Keep up the good work Chef & Staff at neat kitchen + bar in Westmont.

2nd time to Neat and both times I had a great experience. Food is excellent. I had the burger on the first visit and tacos the second time. Excellent selection of beers and a nice bar. Only suggestion is to add either a turkey or vegetarian option for the burgers which are clearly the popular items on the menu. I will be back!

I received an early Christmas gift last night, wrapped up in a "Neat" little package. Nothing thrills me more than finding a great new restaurant, especially when it is close to home and Neat Kitchen + Bar is just that. The décor is simple and earthy, a great place for a casual gathering with large tables that can easily accommodate big groups and parties. The service from the minute we walked in was friendly and attentive. Their small but wonderfully imaginative and diverse menu has something for everyone, apps, sandwiches, steaks, fish, chicken, pasta and dessert. Their wine and craft beer lists are long as well. Tonight we ordered a bottle of pinot noir and Esteban, our excellent waiter told us about 1/2 price wine bottles on Wednesday (calendar noted!). We started with their Prime Rib Baked Onion soup - a very large serving of cheesy onion broth with plentiful chunks of tender prime rib. Our entrees included their Neatburger and the Short Rib Grilled Cheese. Both were excellent but I have to say the burger (topped with a fried duck egg) was one of the best we've ever had - ever!! As if the wine and food wasn't enough, we decided to order dessert and landed on the Triple Berry Bread Pudding with Burnt Caramel Ice Cream. Do NOT miss this dessert - I know you will be tempted by many others on the menu that sound delicious but believe me - this is the one to try! Neat Kitchen + Bar will end up on my "Best of 2013" list for sure!

This place is quite classy. Wood is definitely the theme behind the decor, it looks superb, and the place is very clean and inviting to boot. The menu was a simple slip of paper thought he offering all looked very enticing. My coworkers go hamburgers (nice presentation and they looked deliciously plump) while I went for the cochinita pibil tacos as I was curious as to how their version compared to mine along with some fried brussel sprouts on the side. If you want to know, the pibil tasted just as it should though achiote is a distinct flavor that you may or may not enjoy. My only complaint of the meal was that the tacos were very very barebones. They were served with a single small corn tortilla and a bit of meat and pickled onions. As I know how much that meal costs to make I would definitely say it was priced a bit high. It would have been nice to have some sort of side dish to round the meal out (which is why I felt the need to order the sprouts! Which I am glad I did otherwise I would have left hungry). The food was pretty good and I would happily visit this establishment again though it does seem to be a bit more expensive than it should.

Came in with a group of 12 for the taco special on Tuesdays. Everything again was delicious. The food took longer than expected as most of us ordered tacos. The waitress was also a little slow with checks but I'm sure it took some time to produce the separate checks for our group. Thank you for being accommodating to our group!

One of my favorite spots in the area. I love the atmosphere, the people and the food. Their "Neat Cocktail" menu is great. My favorite is the St. George Raspberry Bramble. Definitely recommend trying it. I've never had a bad thing to eat here until today.... I actually want this review to inform people rather than discourage. I ordered the calamari today and was very disappointed. My concern is is that if it is someone's first time here and this is what they order I don't want them to be disappointed or let down in the food over all. The calamari was just ok... I was surprised by how bland it was actually because of how great the rest of the food is. I've tried most of the Menu and everything is wonderful. The calamari just doesn't fit. Very bland. Under cooked. The only thing that remotely saved it was the dipping sauce. If they spice up the calamari it would be a perfect menu all around. Over all love love this place and definitely recommend it to all my friends and family.

I came here a totally of two times so far and I probably would not return... I have a theory. I found this place because of their 4.5 star ratings and expect some near perfect dining experience. I didn't like anything I ate the first time I came here. I didn't dislike the food, but there was no reason for me to return. We started off with spicey pork wings and I ordered a blue cheese burger. The pork wings tasted like pieces of pork. They were nice and tender but nothing special. I didn't like the blue cheese burger but that is because I realized I don't like blue cheese inside of burgers so take this with a grain of salt if you are a big blue cheese burger fan. The 2nd time I decided to give this place a shot was for carry out. Nothing I ordered had good quality. I ordered their flagship "neatburger" and I thought it was meh. It had a bunch of fancy ingredients in it like fried duck egg and kewpie but it tasted like any old burger. In fact, it tasted worse than any old burger because they did not cook the meat to my specifications of medium. The meat patty was a definite bloody and bitter medium rare. That's right, BITTER. I never associated meat with being bitter before but both of the burgers I have had there were bitter. I also ordered a side of asparagus. DO NOT ORDER ASPARAGUS AS A SIDE HERE! My imaginary pet rabbit wouldn't be starved if I fed it Neat's portions of asparagus. It's nearly $1 per asparagus.

Had been wanting to try NEAT for a while. Finally got in and was not disappointed. Wasn't drinking that night, but beer and cocktail list is extensive. There's something for everyone. This is bar food taken up a few notches. The wife and I split an appetizer of Brussels Sprouts, seems odd, but these were incredible - crispy with a ginger-soy something or other sauce. I had a pork sandwich that was literally awesome. Great kids meals as well, mine got sliders and chicken fingers. Awesome vibe too. We were there on a weeknight and they had some acoustic entertainment. Will definitely be back!

I went out to dinner with some friends and was pleasantly surprised by this place. I alwyas enjoy a good bar and with the craft beers and numbers of whiskeys they had on hand I realized I was home. The food was a great. I enjoyed the little play on the comfort foods. The Pork wings... (yeah you read that right) were awesome, so good and I couldn't wait to take a bite of my friends short rib grilled cheese. I did have one complaint and that the dessert portions were small. Our party size was 6 and we usually get a couple desserts to share and when they showed up at the table I was curious if our waiter ate half of it on the way to the table. Man, were they small. Now, they were tasty and delicious but way too small. Other than the bread pudding everything else was one or two bites at most. Can't wait to go there again but will do somewhere else for desserts.

Neat has been a standard of my wife and I since we moved back to Westmont in 11/13. We usually eat at the bar, but have dined at the general seating twice. The owners Jason and Mike have always been helpful and informative about the food, and especially the beer. Neat is a gastropub where you can enjoy a fine wine or unusual beer. Definitely try the neat burger!

This is my favorite place in the western suburbs!! I love all the food, especially the steak, chicken and pork belly tacos. The brussel sprouts are amazing and all if their cocktails are delish! I always bring any newcomers to neat because there is something for everyone. Extensive beer and wine list as well as a impressive selection of spirits! Highly recommend it!!

I and a sibling were in the area on a Saturday afternoon and decided to give this place a try. First off, I was impressed by not only the beer but whiskey selection. Being early afternoon, I opted for a beer and tried their signature burger, and both were terrific. The sweet potato fries were done to perfection, even drawing the attention of my sis (who doesn't typically like sweet potato). The place was nearly empty when we were there, so I can't comment on the noise level or service quality once they get busy. Simply put, this is a nice gastropub and a good addition to the lunch choices in Downers Grove.

Not gonna lie, I don't expect much from Westmont. The area is very nice, but it just doesn't seem like a culinary hot spot. Well, I was wrong. Neat was fantastic! I came with husband and brother-in-law on a Saturday night and were able to get a seat, but the place was busy. Service was great and the place is upscale, but certainly not fancy shmancy. My favorite part was definitely the beer selection. Dozens of options and a very solid wine menu and custom cocktails. I stuck with the beer, but the guys got some great cocktails and whiskeys. We were starving, so we opted to split a variety of plates instead. The 3 each of the Fish, Pork Belly and Pork Pibil tacos, the spicy wings and then the short rib grilled cheese. The tacos = awesome. Great flavor and a hearty portion of meat in each one... I passed on the wings since I'm not a fan of a ton of heat, but the short rib grilled cheese was the winner... and those fries! Fantastic. For $14 this is not a grilled cheese for your kids, but it was so good. I'll definitely be back here when visiting the in-laws again. Definitely a place to bring visitors to!

AMAZING. We decided to come eat here after sampling some of their delicious cuisine at the Taste of Westmont festival. The 10oz burger was fantastic with fresh, juicy sirloin perfectly cooked with homemade buns and tasty cheddar cheese. The fries were some of the best I've ever had and it definitely did not disappoint. You also have your choice of chuck, rib-eye or short-rib and they will add pretty much anything you want. Everything is homemade, even the mayo! Wonderful. The pork belly tacos were absolutely my favorite part. They were tender, sweet and sour and probably the best I've ever had. You MUST ask for the green sauce! I've never had pickled cucumber before, and this made me a believer. The "brick-chicken" was fall-off-the-bone tender and covered in a super tangy but sweet sauce with grape tomatoes and crispy "brocollini". They marinate it for 24 hours and you can definitely tell the difference. Full of flavor. The calamari was, hands down, the best I've ever had. I highly recommend. They don't bring out marinara sauce but the horseradish chilli sauce they do offer is a nice change and I actually preferred it to the usual marinara. I absolutely recommend saving room for dessert and our waitress recommended the bread pudding with gelatin and it was stock full of cranberries and raisins and it was like eating fruitcake at Christmas time with more flavor and better fruit. Everyone was friendly, inviting and knowledgeable about the menu, ingredients and kept our water and drink glasses filled. We really felt comfortable and I love how it is within a block of my buddy's house. Excellent work, Neat! Keep it up!

We have been to and taken friends out to Near on several occasions now and really enjoy it. Yes, the food is a bit pricier, but you're paying for some creativity and some added quality ingredients too. We've always been quite happy with the service, the beer list is amazing. We enjoy the tacos a lot and have tried almost all of them by mixing them and ordering as a starter. I would agree with other reviewers that the appetizers can be a little pricey. We've ordered the short rib sandwich and the neat burger with the fried egg and both are mouth watering and delicious, and the portions for the price and quality are appropriate. This is a great place to take friends, but also if you're looking for a modern date night feel without feeling too fancy or too casual. Love the ambience.

We were looking for a new place out in the burbs for a "girls night" and NEAT fit the bill in terms of location and menu so off we went to check it out. While the décor is a bit Spartan (I think they were going for a minimalist approach), the friendly greeting that we got from Ben the bartender was not, so we cozied up to his bar for a couple of very well poured martinis while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Ben was great . . so great so that we even came back to the bar after dinner for a nightcap. On this weeknight- there were not many people in the place so once we were all there- someone showed us to our seat. Turns out the person that showed us to our seats might have been a food runner or busser as he was back at our table several times throughout the night. And while I appreciate him seating us, the server for our area seemed to be a bit flustered as she said she didn't know what we were doing in her section and given we had been waiting for about 20 mins for someone to come over and wait on us we didn't care why- we just wanted a server. Service hiccup number one. Hmm . . . . .I was hoping this wasn't going to be a portent of things to come. We reviewed the menu and there were quite a few things that caught our eye so we ordered a couple of appetizers to start like the Mussels (quite good) as well as the 3 taco sampler (they come with chicken, steak or pork and while all were good- the steak is clearly the winner!). For our entrees- one in our group had the chicken and apple sandwich and the rest of us had the salmon. The salmon was delicious- perfectly prepared and served over a bed of jicama cilantro coleslaw that was really a nice complement. So the 2nd service hiccup came when the server brought us over another bottle of the wine we were drinking. We hadn't ordered another bottle but when we questioned it she said "oh, the owner probably sent it over", which made little sense to us but we rationalized it that one in our group was planning a big holiday event at the restaurant so maybe it was a way for him to thank her for the extra business. Just after we got done talking about how thoughtful a gesture that was, the server came back and "no- that was a mistake. There is no free wine". Really? At that point- they would have been better off offering us something- a free glass of wine or a free dessert or something because all this service gaff did was leave us all talking about how poorly the mistake was handled. And given the bottle of wine we were drinking was only priced at $40 (I drink this wine all the time and know the retail is about $20) it probably would have been a worthy investment. All in, dinner for 3 with wine and dessert ran only about $140 so the prices are really reasonable given how tasty the food is. If you like beer- they have quite an extensive list and their wines are reasonably priced as well. And there is plenty of free parking in their private lot or on the street out in front of the location. Good food but in my opinion the service still needs some fine tuning at this place. Because there was nothing "NEAT" about it!

Considering how short of a time this place has been here and all the great reviews had to try this place. What a pleasant surprise! Drinks were great we had Bloody Marys (had a kick which I like ) and hubby had gum ball head on tap... Yes I wrote that ! I also had a beer flight (4 total). For dinner we had the burgers, I usually don't do a burger but was in the mood, we also had calamari which came with an aoli sauce and not marinara. Long term I hope they offer more flight options as I love to sample my beer and more apps. Beer and apps- a good thing. Hopefully they have happy hour come summertime too! Overall great spot to try ! Enjoy. We will be back;)

I went here for lunch today and I ordered the tacos. I had 1 fish taco and 2 pork belly tacos. They were both great, but I have to say that I thought the pork belly tacos were the best.

Nice environment. $9.00 for 6 small wings...they were good, got hot and super hot, but I better poop some gold tomorrow. Good beer selection but over priced given the competition in the area.

I have been to Neat twice now, and it's been excellent both times! The atmosphere is laid back, and it's very open and rustic looking. Both times I have been to Neat, I've ordered the tacos. I had one of each-chicken, fish, and steak-and all were absolutely delicious. I also had the bruschetta appetizer, which I would recommend. Other people I went with ordered the cobb salad and the burger, and they loved it! Neat has a smaller menu, but that is because they do everything on that menu really well, and each item has its own special twist of flavor that you might not expect. They also have a large beer menu which is perfect for lovers of craft beer. The service was awesome, and I love the waitress, Ellie, who I had both times I was there. She's wonderful, and suggested Allagash White beer to me after I couldn't decide what to get, and it's my new favorite summertime beer! Also, both times I went to Neat, I was there for a Musician's Workshop, and the live music really added to the laid back atmosphere of the restaurant, which I loved. If you haven't tried it yet, definitely go to Neat!

So maybe we need to give it another try, but we went last night for the first time given all the great reviews. I was excited to have my husband try the extensive craft beer menu as well. We started out with the fried calamari which was interestingly mushy. We moved on to entrées where I had the fish taco and my husband had the special for the night, stuffed burger. My fish taco was gross. It was dripping, soggy and all I could taste was the corn tortilla it was wrapped in. The burger had my husband spitting out pieces and asking me if there was something in his meat. He asked for medium rare and he swore the burger was not cooked at all. I couldn't try because I'm pregnant and cannot have meat anything but well done. We each had sides of fries... fries that were soggy, oily and needed to stay in the fryer for another 2 min. We were crammed in between people and I felt smothered. We couldn't have a conversation without people next to us involuntary being able to hear us. Again, 9 months pregnant and the last thing I want is to not be able to move in and out of my seat. Our server was Molly and although pretty on top of it for most of service, she dragged toward the end. I wanted to try a dessert after seeing people next to me devour their's, but decided it wasn't worth another 10 min to figure out if she was going to come back. The ambience is nice. They did a great job with redecorating the place. I used to work at this joint when it was Brickyard Grill and looked nothing like what it does now. Would I return because it looks nice? Doubtful.

Great food. Had the grilled cheese with brisket or steak or whatever and it was amazing. Definately one of the better places in the area.

Good menu with some inventive stuff. Got tacos which were fine, a short rib grilled cheese which was very good, and sweet potoato fries which were even better. We enjoyed the food, but the real noteworthy part is the beer list. A good number on draft, and then just pages of bottled options.

  • Brian D.

The beer cheddar bacon soup was a 5/10 mostly tasted of beer and little potatoes. The best thing was the shredded pork taco, yet it was very messy. The other tacos not worth writing hole about. The prime rib onion soup was a 8/10 He ambiance was clean outside. The apple martini was below average. I will still go back because it is casual $50 for small dinner for two.

This is the fourth time I have eaten here. 1: the service is consistently good. The staff is friendly and efficient. Throughout the experience the server made sure we we're OK. Never felt forgotten. 2) The servings were tasty and plentiful. It has a limited menu so they are able to focus on quality and consistency. 3) The wow factor was the ample beer and wine selection. It is worth the trip and give it a try. Someday, I may even just go into the bar. Nice looking.

Updating my review based on follow-up from Neat. They do offer veg options, its just not listed so you have to request it. They actually followed up very quickly so Im glad they look at the feedback they get via Yelp. I'll now be taking the fam here soon. Thanks Neat for getting back to me.

I don't know much about the suburban Chicago lifestyle but this place seemed strangely empty for a Sunday night. Decorations are very modern with a big empty space where the hostess stand was. I came to pick up a takeout order we had placed -- the Neatburger, the chicken and apple sandwich, and a grilled asparagus side. Overall, I would say the food was mediocre. The Neatburger was decent; the beef patty had a nice texture but was a bit more rare than we had wanted. The chicken and apple sandwich was okay, but not phenomenal. Luckily, I am generally weary of sauces and asked for it on the side. The chipotle mayo had this weird smoky flavor that I would say tasted like a woodchip straight from the smoker. I did, however, like the pairing of apple and chicken. The apples gave a nice crispness to the grilled chicken, which was actually decently flavorful for chicken breast. I will say that the artisan bread was really good though. It maintained a toasty, buttery exterior with a soft interior. The asparagus was the biggest disappointment of all. For a $5 a la carte side dish, I had expected more than 5 pieces of limp asparagus.

My husband and I are really missing good city restaurants since moving to the Burbs last April. Neat is Delish and totally reminds us of our old stomping grounds. Huge beer selection, modern atmosphere and great food. They have weekly specials that are worth checking out too.

A group of 4 of us decided to try this place out on a Tuesday night. We didn't have reservations, but were seated promptly when we arrived because there was hardly anybody in the place. The server was promt and friendly throughout the whole meal. She immediately got us water after we sat down, and had our other drinks ready to go shortly thereafter. The drink menu is extensive. Be it beer, wine or whiskey, they have pages of each to satisfy. Luckily for us, it was Taco Tuesday! They have 5 different tacos on the menu, and 3 of the 5 tacos are 2 bucks each on Tuesdays. I say lucky us because everything else on the menu looked very over priced. Had it not been taco Tuesday, we would have paid about 3 times as much for the same meal. The tacos came out not too long after ordering. I don't know if it was because it was Taco Tuesday, and to cut down on expense, but there were no sides like rice or beans. Just the Tacos themselves. They were ok, nothing too exceptional or exciting about them. The Chicken taco looked like it was only one strip of chicken, topped with sour cream and cilantro. The steak and pork tacos were better. We skipped dessert and walked down the street to a local ice cream place. Overall, the drink menu and ambiance were great, but the main course is lacking.

This place has totally won me over, and frankly I should have updated this review again a couple months ago. The side of roasted brussels sprouts with salsa verde is fantastic, with a nice mix of caramelization, charring, spice, and tartness. I'm seriously still adoring the Five-Spice Pork sandwich but with portabella substituted in place of the pork; it's one of the best banh mi-style sandwiches I have ever eaten. Their kitchen is consistent, solid, and creative. The wine list is extensive, but frankly the beer list has such a variety that I rarely check out the wines. I'm a taps fan, but don't be scared off by a small tap number, as the selection of bottled (and microbrew canned!) beers is amazing. The owners are really dedicated to seeking out excellent ingredients, beverages, and generally making this place into a great destination. Plus the kitchen is open pretty late for you night owls!

I am actually excited to write this review!! My husband and I just bought a home in downtown Westmont and wandered out to find some dinner last night. We found Neat and were drawn in by the modern looking exterior. We were beyond pleasantly surprised with our visit to this brand new place! The interior was really interesting, industrial/modern decor. There was a nice sized bar in addition to the restaurant seating. We didn't venture to the bar because we were there for dinner but it looked cool and they had soccer on, which scored bonus points with us (we will be back to try it out!!) The tables had adequate space in between and service was great! They are still training some of their staff but everyone was friendly and polite. The craft beer selection is small, but they had Revolution, Lagunitas and some others. My glass of wine was also super tasty! To start, we ordered pork belly on a sticky bun with scallions, pickled cucumbers, and hoisin to start...A-MA-ZING! We could have just had several orders of these for dinner :) For our meal, my husband had the 5 spice pork sandwich, he said it was tasty and loved the pickled veggies on it. My chicken and apple sandwich had muenster cheese, Granny Smith apples, chicken, and chipotle aioli...yummy!! I can't wait to eat it again :). Both sandwiches came with fries and they were fine, just fries. The restaurant is a little north of downtown but it has its own parking lot. It also offers indoor and outdoor seating. Bottom line? Go try out this brand new gem, you won't be disappointed!

This is a great looking bar with a nice interior look and I guess to justify their expenses unfortunately the menu is pretty outrageous . Everything in the menu is way overpriced and food is not really that good but in order to keep up with other fancy places in Westmont's downtown the owners of Neat Kitchen decided to make this kitchen really upscale. There are some unique menu choices but it doesn't really look that impressive and the servings I ordered were small

I have been here twice and both times the food was great. The tacos are a must have, the pork pibil is awesome! Also the pork wing appetizer is very good. They have a decent size craft beer list. The only compliant I have is the music needs to be louder, if you are sitting right next to another table you can hear there whole conversation.

OK, so we went here on a whim and fell in love with the place! We started with the tiger shrimp appetizer, which was great. Not too spicy, not too smoky, not too dry, but just tasty! My husband and I both had the specials. My halibut with a coconut curry sauce was tasty, but not nearly as fabulous as, yes, sad but true, my side dish of grilled asparagus with a duck egg on top. Amazing! Salty, tasty goodness! My husband had the other special, which was a pork chop. It was phenomenal. It was bone in, and two bones tall! Huge pork chop, with wonderful crispy caramelized edges... Yummy! His baked potato was good, but basic. We also ended up with two, yes two, deserts. The waiter was super attentive, friendly, and overall amazing. I'd ask to sit in his section again anytime, but.... He did goof and bring us the death by chocolate dessert instead of the berry dessert we wanted. The chocolate one was a flourless chocolate cake with homemade chocolate ice cream.. Yum. But... The berry cake, which was like a milk cake, and came with vanilla homemade ice cream and raspberries was to die for! Drinks were amazing too, and they have a huge selection of great cocktails, wines, and craft beers. They even have a barrel aged Manhattan. I've never been a big fan of a Manhattan, but my husband got one, and I'll admit, it was tasty. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the drink selection, and was a huge help deciding. Helped me pick a perfect red wine, and my husband a perfect craft beer (after the Manhattan). The atmosphere is casual to dressy, with industrial type furnishings, and a nice separate bar area. Definitely a place I could pull up and have a few wonderful cocktails. Relaxing overall, but a bit on the loud side. It also was a very busy Friday night, so that might have played into the noise factor.

This was a great surprise! The atmosphere was very nice and the food was delicious. I was surprised how many families were there early Saturday evening, but the crowd got older as it got later. The chipotle aioli with the calamari was phenomenal, I liked the (huge) stuffed bleu cheese burger, and I cannot wait to try the beer cheese soup next time!

I'm soooo happy this place has finally open up! I've been passing by almost every day just to check it out and see if they have opened the doors. Smart thinking on the owners part, they opened just in time for the Taste of Westmont! I suggest trying out the tacos and burgers. They are pretty tasty and will fill you up. When they finally put tvs in here I think that this place will be super popular, although I think the bar will be too small - put some more seats in please!! I can't wait to see what this place is capable of. I'm going to be a regular for sure!

As much a I love the food, hands down the service just sucks. The owner should take note to the poor service from the servers; takes too long to order and spent too much time sitting there. Even after I was served, I had an empty beer/water glass for a long time... And here's the kicker, there was NO ONE ELSE in the place! Been there twice and was the same service. I was recommended to eat here by my daughter, she has the same complaints every time she's here. We come for the great food, but expect to have terrible service and be there for a while.

We decided to try to place for lunch. My husband order their coffee, which they describe as mexican... it was really good that we took some to go. It was a like dark roast with a hit of cinnamon. I had the neat burger and my hubby had the grill salmon both were over cook. I had ask for my burger medium but it was so well done that my egg was completely cooked from the heat. Good favor combination. The husband had the grilled salmon, which was also over cook. We let the waitress know but we just couldn't wait for a redo since we need to get in and out.

I found a "Neat" gem last night at Neat Kitchen + Bar. Our friends have been raving about this place and we joined them for a wonderful dining experience. Our servers were very attentive and helpful but not overbearing. Our wine glasses and water were consistently topped off. I loved that when we ordered a second bottle of wine we were given clean wine glasses even though we ordered the same wine...nice touch. Note, we went on Wednesday which is when they offer 1/2 price bottles of wine. My husband had the Prime Rib Baked Onion Soup. The broth was rich and full of flavor from the prime rib, just the right amount of onions and topped with the perfect portion of cheese. Delicious and a must have. I had the Skirt Stead with a side of Grilled Asparagus drizzled with a Balsamic Reduction. The steak was made to perfection topped with a garlic herb butter which added jus the right amount of flavor. The portion was large, enough to take home to enjoy the next day. Hy husband ordered the Short Rib Grilled Cheese Sandwich with a side of fries. The short rib was tender and very tasty and proportioned with just the right amount of cheese and served on thick perfectly grilled bread. Once again the portion size was huge. To top off the evening we (the four of us) shared the Triple Berry Bread Pudding with Burnt Carmel Ice Cream. WOW!!! This is a must have to complete your dining experience. The bread pudding was so moist and the ice cream is an amazing accompaniment.

OK, a great add to Westmont, IL. Upscale dining (I'm a t-shirt & shorts kind of guy) and was greeted as if I was in a 3 piece suit........that was a plus right away! This place has this industrial feel, yet very modern. They have plenty of seating to accommodate any size party including a private room for family/corporate gatherings, with a private bar. The owners as well as the staff are great, and very friendly. My wife and I ordered the 5 spice pulled pork and cobb salad and could not been happier with the freshness and taste....Well done NEAT kitchen and bar! Now, the bar. They have craft beers, IPA's, domestic beer, mixed drinks and wine. My favorite and a must try is Left Hand Milk Stout. Fast service and friendly bar tenders. If you're ever in Westmont or want to take the trip to the burbs, NEAT kitchen and Bar is a must try restaurant.

Fit for foodies, indeed! I love the ambiance and layout of this restaurant/bar. There is even some outdoor seating. I am so excited to come here again. The food was so good. We had the shrimp tacos and burgers. So tasty. The desserts were amazing as well. They have a nice wine selection and really good beer selection. I was impressed. They just opened up so they are working out a few kinks, like the temperature of the steaks and burgers, but you can't deny the great flavor and the service was impeccable.

Nice concept. A bit over rated to me. If Neats prices weren't so high, I'd frequent the bar more. Never seen it busy. Either the service is awesome or the server/ bartender acts like they don't earn tips. But they do rotate the beers and get awesome selections you aren't going to find in the area. If the service was more consistent I'd consider Neat more for casual dining

Would love to have commented on the food, but our 7 p.m. reservation for 4 was not honored because they gave our table to someone who got there before 7. They didn't have a table for four, but they had many tables of 2, which they "couldn't" push together for us. After 10 minutes of waiting while every other customer was seated, the hostess showed me around the restaurant, and I commented that she could have offered us a place at the bar while we were waiting. She said, you could do that NOW, but it was too late. Interestingly, we seemed to be the oldest group there (late 50s) and seemed like we didn't fit the profile for the type of diners they wanted in their restaurant. Insulting, to say the least. At least I can scratch this restaurant off my list of places to try. It's also on my list of places to warn others about.

Yum and yum!!! Totally unexpected. We have driven past it several times and finally decided to try it. The outside is somewhat deceiving and its at the end of the street in downtown Westmont. This place has a very cool atmosphere, awesome food, and service was great!! Definitely will be back;).

Probably more of a 3 and a half for me, but I'm not comfortable thinking of it as a 4 just yet. I went to Neat this past week for a beer pairing event. When I entered, the first staff member had no knowledge of the event; further staff members were aware of it but had no idea where in the restaurant it was being held. Umm. The food and beer were very good--I very much want to come back to sample some other drafts and an entree. However, the disorganized service was a bit of a theme for the evening--hopefully this is something they will shake off once they've been open longer.

Fantastic spot in Westmont for dinner and/or drinks. Modern, dimly lit setting great for dates or catching up with friends. Like many reviewers, I highly recommend the steak tacos. I did a taco combo: steak, chicken and fish. I chose steak based on the recommendations here --- great choice. When ordering tacos in the future I will choose all steak, they were that good! My dining companion enjoyed the Neat burger. We started with mussels. I love mussels and while the mussels themselves were fantastic, the cream sauce was not my favorite. One of the highlights of the night was out server. She was very attentive and had an extremely positive demeanor, making for a pleasant dining experience.

Went to try neat for lunch and for the most part the place tries really hard to be different but all the things I tried came up short. The beer potato soup was just awful and tasted mostly of beer not just the essence of it. Next the burger I ordered was way over cooked ( I know it happens but twice) not ok. Let's just say the place looks ok but to spend the money the food definitely needs to back it up but comes up way short.

Love this place! The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing. Have been here several times with friends and family. Their Portobello Burger is great! The owners also worked with us to host a parent mixer and the food as well as service outstanding!

My family (3 kids and 3 adults) dined at Neat on a Saturday night. I decided on Neat after reading many great Yelp reviews & we wanted to be in the Westmont area anyway. Upon arrival, it made sense to me why they call the restaurant Neat; the place is impeccably clean & decor is simple. It's not glamorous, but it is chic (in a rustic, minimal way). The white linen napkins that held the 18/10 stainless utensils were folded in the shape of trees...a nice touch for the holidays. The hostess was nice; left us with kid menus, wine list and brought back crayons for kids to color with. We didn't get a beer list, though...which was one main reason we went there...not a huge deal, but had to ask for one later. Our server arrived immediately and we ordered mussels, 3 taco appetizer and French onion soup (all based on Yelp reviews). Lowdown: Mussels were cooked perfectly but the white cream leek sauce they were in was subpar. It was barely luke warm & underseasoned...almost watery. The toast points it came with were delicious, though. French onion soup was not warm enough; I'm used to FO soup coming out piping hot with the cheese oozing bubbly goodness over the edges...this soup did not do that. I didn't taste any prime rib in it & it had an overt sweetness that could've been toned down. Hubby didn't like it at all. 3 tacos (fish, chicken, steak) were ok. Steak was best of 3; had a mango salsa on it that worked well. Chicken taco was shredded...it looked like pulled pork and it was dry. Fish must've been good cuz my picky 8yo ate it! Next came ordering for dinner. And I finally got to order my craft beer (probably the highlight of the whole experience)...they had many choices. I went with a bottle of 3F Gumballhead. The kids' menu had typical options: Mac & cheese, chicken tenders, pasta, mini burgers, grilled cheese or grilled chicken sandwich. Comes with drink, a side and scoop of ice cream. $7 each Kids got grilled cheese (good), chick tenders (again, picky kid ate them so I guess ok) and pasta with meat sauce (best meal of the night, IMO, but it didn't come with a side??). Waiter messed up on side dish for tenders, but I didn't say anything...just easier to let it go. Adults ordered 10oz burger ($11), Caesar salad with steak ($15) and short rib grilled cheese ($14). Burger was huge...had to take 1/2 home, but it was very good. Hubby didn't care for grilled cheese, but he ate it so it must not have been horrible. I had the Caesar salad with steak cooked medium. It was ok; a steak knife would be nice so pieces could be cut smaller (hint, hint). Caesar dressing tasted like mayo with a little anchovy paste added...blah. All in all ~ service was good, food was underseasoned & over priced. Bussers took items too quickly & hovered over the tables uncomfortably. Ambience was clean, low noise & nice for groups or romance. We tried to ask about discount but we forgot coupon & manager said no (bad move). Would I go back? Not for the food, but I would for the beer.

I've been here three times now. Every time I'm welcomed by the owners, Jason and Mike. The atmosphere is very laid back and the service is always too notch. The menu is very simple but everything on it is amazing. Another thing that keeps me coming back is the fact that they have 10 craft beers on tap and 80 bottle options. If you like food and drink, you must try Neat Kitchen and Bar.

I hate Bloomingdale. Every time I venture out of the food desert in which I reside (waiting anxiously for when my lease is up in May!!), I'm happily surprised at what I discover. Neat is the perfect kind of neighborhood spot that offers great food and a nice selection of wine and craft beer in a setting that somehow manages to meld urban chic with suburban charm. To start, alongside a chalice of Victory Golden Monkey, which, frankly, was just decent and did not at all resemble a true Belgian tripel (not Neat's fault), I enjoyed a French onion soup with hearty nuggets of braised prime rib and a gooey floating raft of Swiss and Muenster. I wanted more green apple in my grilled chicken sandwich with chipotle mayo, but it was still delicious. Next time, I'll ask. I hope there's a next time. The BF loved his Neat Burger with a fried duck egg, and we both devoured our crispy, golden shoestring fries ... we normally can't stand shoestring fries. For some reason, previous reviewers expressed qualms about dressing casually here, but don't worry. All the staff wear shorts or jeans and Neat logo T-shirts, so come as you are. It's more fun when you do, anyway.

    - food is OK, not amazing and very overpriced for what it is - cocktail menu is small and sad - amount of beer selection is amazing, however the drink menu doesn't sort it by type of beer, but in alphabetical order, which makes it pointless when trying to

The neat burger is absolutely fantastic. It was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and had a great combination of flavors and textures. The fries that came with it were solid but not as exceptional as the burger. They have a nice selection of beer on tap as well as in bottles and a generous selection of wines by the glass and bottle. The decor was casual and contemporary. The service was attentive. The calamari app was good not great. The tentacles were the highlight. Very crispy and really well done. Perhaps the best treated tentacles I've had. Unfortunately the rings weren't consistently cooked. Some over cooked and a bit rubbery, some under cooked. The dish suffered from a lack of acid. While the spicy aioli was tasty, the whole dish got too heavy and oily rather quickly and the single lemon wedge served with it did little to help. The brussel sprout side was not to my liking. It tasted slightly acrid, distinctly bitter and extremely tart. I'm typically a fan of brussel sprouts but I could not handle the mix of burnt exterior and raw interior. The waitress kindly offered to replace them and I received grilled broccolini instead. The chef came to the table to discuss the sprouts. The replacement broccolini was a very small portion, not seasoned or dressed. With the exception of a few small grill marks I would have assumed it was steamed. The $6 price tag was rather steep. I would absolutely go back for the burger again. It was that good.

Finally a serious player in what has been a long line of failed efforts at this location. Decor is cool, very nice bar updates, huge side room for private events, and overall great vibe. Staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating during our short wait. Beer tastings from Lagunitas rep walking around and then later from local Westmont brewery in side room. Apps: above average wings, excellent calamari. Beer list: extensive and unique. Entrees: sons prime rib was excellent. Wife and I both had fish: salmon and grouper, both excellent. Shared a bread pudding dessert which was outstanding. Server was delightful, and given that they were completely full, a bit overwhelmed. But that's OK. We weren't in a rush and she was very apologetic. Chalk it up to growing pains. We'll be back.

Love it. After just moving to the burbs from the West Loop, it was thrilling to find suburban restaurants that are embracing the urban style of modern cooking. I love my shortrib grilled sandwich, and the french onion soup was the best I've ever had. My wife's tacos were excellent. Will be back, hopefully often.

Would like to say that I enjoyed this place, but after sitting down for 15 to 20 minutes we were never waited on. I coincidentally was the only non white person in the room. But the manager did comfort me in saying that it "wasn't intentional."

I was excited to hear about this place, and had high hopes for it, and boy was I impressed! My sister and I went there just for some appetizers and drinks and casually sat at the bar. I initially thought showing up in shorts and a tshirt would cause issues, but I was treated with the highest respect so kudos on that! The bar was neat and clean, and not too busy since it was a Sunday afternoon. The bartender Ben was courteous and allowed us to try a sample of a beer I had never heard of. Speaking of beer....the beer menu is fantastic! We ordered the pork tacos and pork wings with sriracha lime sauce. The wings were a bit spicy for my taste, but my sister loved them. I was really quite impressed with the tacos. Everything about our experience was fantastic, from the service to the food. I'm definitely making all of my fellow foodie friends and craft beer lovers try this place :)

Finally a restaurant in the suburbs worth going to for an incredible meal and drinks. I live in Logan Square, which has its share of great dining, but Neat has them beat. It has an urban chic to it, an incredible menu, incredible drink selection, reasonable prices for meals that one would expect from a restaurant in River North. It is such a good restaurant I have convinced my mom to change her birthday dinner plans this upcoming week to take her party to Neat. For a fantastic meal and dining experience, I'll drive out of the city to Neat Kitchen & Bar any night of the week.

These guys rock. Amazing craft beer tap listing and awesome food and service. My girlfriend and I are from L.A. visiting Chicago on vacation. Looking for a late night snack, we came across this place on yelp with great reviews and decided to check them out. We took a shuttle from our hotel which was about 20 min away. We approached the bar which was occupied by a couple of people. My girl and I ordered drinks and asked to see a menu. The bartender informed us that the kitchen was closed and had been closed for 30 min. We were really hungry and bummed about the situation because our shuttle already took off and the food looked amazing. The next thing I know, these two guys that were sitting close to us at the bar asked us to give them our order for what we would like. A little confused we told them what items we were interested in. They both got up from the bar, left their drinks, and went to cook us our meal in the kitchen. The two gentleman turned out to be both the owner and the head chef who were enjoying a drink after a long day. Within five minutes, they brought us our Caesar salad, and very shortly after the most flavorful Ribeye was hand delivered by both. Everything tasted amazing. We conversed with them about craft beers and bourbons. The owner ended up giving us free shots of the best cherry oak bourbon we've tasted. We ended up buying these guys a round of drinks for the amazing experience. We were blown away by everything. Everyone was super friendly and food was beyond great. The owner, head chef, and bartender were all really nice. We are definitely coming back next time we visit Chicago. Again most amazing experience. Def check this place out. You won't be disappointed. Thanks guys.

This was our first time here tonight and this is our new go to place. Service and staff were very knowledgeable when we told them it was our first time here. The calamari was good. Little overcooked but still very fresh. I ordered the burger and it was the best burger I've had in a very long time. My wife ordered the Neat burger, she never had a burger with a fried egg on u t and this was a duck egg! Very pleased with Neat and will be going back soon!

More like 4.5 stars What a find! We had ventured to the area pick up wine at Prestige Liquors we had purchased at a recent wine tasting we attended. We were hungry so I fired up the Yelp app to scout for a place to grab a bite and a glass of wine. Saw Neat listed so we decided to try it out. Was mid afternoon and wasn't that busy. We went to bar and ordered drinks and took a look at menu. Turned out our bartender is also one of the owners. We ordered the fish tacos and pork wings. Yes kids, pork wings. Both were really good, fresh ingredients and very flavorful. The owner was super nice and we chatted with him about the place, decor, menu, etc. Speaking of decor, let's call it industrial chic. Best way to describe it. About a week later we went back with our friends for the grand opening party. It was busy but not crazy. We started out with the calamari and you guessed it, pork wings. Love those things. I ordered the Rigatoni and the GF had the Fish Tacos. Both were excellent. I love the flavor profiles of their food. Food is great, nice selection of craft beers, wine list is a work in progress but really nice selections with more being added. Service was good. Considering it was their grand opening and place was packed she did a good job. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Cheers!

This place just isn't quite what I wish it would be. Super cute decor, although we were seated close to the door and I had to leave my jacket on during dinner. I feel the place needs better over seeing what comes out of the kitchen. My salad was served at the same time as my entree. My husband and I split the burger. So bummed as it lacked pizzaz and the topping was laughable. Please taste your menu items, the flavors were so lackluster, I can't believe any chef would approve.... Surely an oversight... If you are charging $13 for a burger, make the add-ons good quality, fresh and flavorful. I must say the burger was cooked perfect. It was extremely nice of them to split the burger for us (with extra egg $3 up charge). Waiter was very friendly. The fries were not hot at all and were served very small pieces. It seemed as though we got the end of bag? Annoying ! Again, kitchen manager should be watching what goes out to customers. Sadly the bun was below average . The highlight of the evening was the flour-less chocolate cake. While it was rich, warm, chocolatey and delicious, it was served with a dollop of average coffee ice cream and a mismatched small chocolate cup of green tea sauce. The menu items sound good but need a refining of recipes and delivery to patrons.

I went last night for taco Tuesday and had a great experience at neat! Our waitress was very attentive and happy to move us to a different table (as the first one was near a louder group). We tried each of the three tacos that were on special (pork, steak and chicken) and they were all very unique. The green apple slaw on the Asian steak was perfect and refreshing after the spicy habanero sauce on the pulled pork taco. For $6 I had plenty of food and was happy when our meal for two came in at $26 with drinks. Overall great place for a quick, affordable bite to eat in westmont. I will definitely be back to try the other items on the menu!

One of the tastiest bowls of baked onion soup in a long time .It comes with little chunks of prime rib inside. My wife ordered a Neat Burger and asked if I would like to try it,I ended up eating half of it .It was excellent .I would put it up against any other burger! But the climax of our dinner was the triple berry bread pudding with burnt caramel ice cream,to die for! We had Estaban as our server,he was great. We are having breakfast right now and talking about when we will be returning to Neat Kitchen.

I live just down the street from Neat in Downers. I'm writing this review during my third visit. Kept meaning to write it sooner!! When I pulled up tonight, the parking lot was packed! For a Monday night and temps breaking TEN BELOW, I was expecting to be one of a few patrons. The bar wasn't too packed. Ending up being a private party in the back... From this point, this review will speak of my first: My first time out was back in December. I had been hunting for a new spot close to home that had good reviews. Neat was a strong 4.5 stars with 35+ reviews at the time. It was Monday night, so I grabbed a spot at the bar for the Monday Night Football game. It's a very classy looking place. Decorated well, but not over decorated. Lots of bar top space to allow for a nice size group or to let you have your own space. Nice beer list! Good tap selection and 90+ bottles/cans. I started with the fish tacos and a Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. I've had a lot of fish tacos... I might consider myself a fish taco connoisseur of sorts. These were some of the best I've ever had! The fish was perfectly cooked and incredibly juicy! The Neat slaw was a perfect, cool crunch against the very fluffy fish and flavorful tomatillo salsa. I'm not a big fan of spicy stuff, but the salsa was amazing! I loved how the tacos were presented; on a metal arrangement that kept each taco standing upright. I always hate having to wrestle with my tacos to fold them back into eating shape, just to set them back down so they can unfold all over my plate. Half way through my meal, two guys at the other side of the bar introduced themselves as the owners, Mike and Jason. We struck up conversation about the history of the restaurant and talked about their whiskey selection. At Mike's suggestion, I ordered one of their whiskeys on the rocks. Very good! Smooth and flavorful. I am not a whiskey buff, but it was a terrific pair to the next course of my meal. I kept going back and forth between deciding on the 10 oz Burger and 5 Spice Pork. The burger won out! I have been a regular over at the Country House in Clarendon Hills for years. My dad grew up blocks from there. I had been convinced that they had the, hands down, best burger in the area. Neat's 10 oz burger is now a strong contender for the best local burger in my book! The mix of beef is cooked up to a perfect medium rare. Now please note: they actually cook it in the requested fashion! A nice warm, pink center. The kewpie mayo is really what set it apart. Jason explained that it is a Japanese mayo that he finds to work well only on a burger. It definitely worked well for me! Supremely creamy and a perfect combo to the awesome blend of beef. ( A short aside about the beef... One of the patrons at the bar with me ended up being a beef distributor. Travelled the country, selling some of the best beef available. That says something when you have a beef EXPERT as a regular to your restaurant, praising your burger!) The whole first experience was awesome. Really cool to see two owners like Jason and Mike with such attention to detail and passion for what they do. All three times I have been there, they have been working the front lines, greeting their regulars by name. I most definitely consider myself a regular! Wishing the best for Jason and Mike as do such an awesome job with Neat!

I had a very nice lunch at Neat Kitchen, but not quite a five-star joint. First of all, the service was a little surly. And since I was there at a very odd hour (about 4 p.m.) there shouldn't have been any problem with it being attentive and relaxed. Instead, I got the idea that the server was doing me a favor. And apart from when he had to be there to deliver food, etc., I think he came by once during the entire meal even though there was a grand total of about six people in the restaurant at the time. Second, the menu was a little more limited (at least for lunch) than I was expecting. I will immediately add, though, that what I had was delicious. I ate the pork belly appetizer and the rigatoni as my main dish. Both top notch. Bottom line, I would go back and hope for a different server next time. Outstanding beer selection, by the way.

The place is NEAT. Great food, location, parking and atmosphere. My hubby and I were looking for a place to eat on a Saturday mid day after running lots of errands. We went to trusty Yelp and found this place. What a great find. The décor is hip/urban/minimalist. There is a large bar in the back and the tables are up front. I had a burger minus the bun with a fried egg on top (yummy) and pan fried broccollini instead of fries. My husband had the same and ate his with fries. He said it was very yummy as well. The menu is extensive and impressive. Next time I go I am going to have those fries made with duck fat. Yes! Great service by the lovely server with the lovely Russian accent.

Awesome Awesome Awesome! We live in the neighborhood and decided to try Neat for Valentines day. Food was awesome! We got the "pork wings" which were amazing! My husband got the Neat Burger with the Duck egg on it and I got the short rib grilled cheese...both were beyond good! Decor was really cool...urban/countryish i guess? Really plain, in a good way! Mason jars with candles on each table, metal locker room lockers, lots of metal and wood. HUGE BEER SELETION! We learned that they have $2 taco tuesdays so we will hopefully become regulars! One suggestion...I ordered an $8.00 beer and I was given a worn out miller lite pint glass with the image 75% flaked off to pour it in...it was kind of tacky. I suggest plain old pint glasses.

What an asset to Westmont. Finally a great hangout spot in the downtown area. My first visit was for a quick dinner at the bar to check the place out. I had a combo of all three tacos, shrimp being my favorite. All ingredients were super fresh and well combined. My quick visit became a few drinks and dessert as the vibe was fun and the people great. An Allagash White and Revolution Rosa were solid draft choices. The generous samples of any of the drafts is a thoughtful touch, especially when it came to DIPA from local Urban Legend, not my usual style of beer but great to be able to try something new. The service was attentive and knowledgeable. Had the pleasure of meeting the chef/owner Jason. My next visit was late tonight as I had been running around all day and realized I hadn't eaten. Stopped by and they graciously welcomed me in even though I was clearly the only late night customer on a quiet Monday night. They whipped up delicious calamari for me without batting an eye. Again Jason was an awesome host and Jeff was a pleasure to chat with as I had my late night dinner. This time the Lagunitas A Lil Sumpin' Sumpin' was the draft of choice as well as a sample of Urban Legend's Pale Ale. You should absolutely go see the awesome folks at Neat. They are doing things right and deserve to be rewarded for it! I look forward to making this a regular stop in the 'hood. You should too, you won't be disappointed.

We tried NEAT on a Saturday afternoon after stopping by the York and not finding any available seating. We were in a burger and beer mood to go with our college football watching. The NEAT burger was excellent! It was cooked exactly as ordered and tasted amazing. It hit the spot! The beer list is extensive. They were out of our first two choices so we landed on one called The Mayor (Ward 51, I think) and it did the trick. All in all a great lazy Saturday afternoon and we'll be back soon.

9:30 on a Tuesday night and Neat was our choice after my son's school concert. pet seeing and hearing about it. We were hungry! First time here and the experience was fantastic. Late night dining was still serving full menu and all our food was delicious and unique creations. Nice variety and I want to go back. I also liked their choice of music very much!

Tried this new hot spot on a Wednesday evening. Place was deserted. Wait staff was slow and not very friendly. Menu is very small and unappealing. My kids liked their food okay, but the dishes my mom and I had were very bland and unseasoned. All this for only $75! Price includes 1/2 off a bottle of wine. Needless to say, I will never go back.

A fun Friday night on the front porch of Neat. Delicious steak tacos.....freshly made tortillas, spicy, spicy hot sauce with well cooked steak. My husband had the 10 oz bleu burger....stuffed with oozing bleu cheese, topped with onion glaze. Katie, our waitress was attentive and helpful with suggestions that were spot on. Would definitely return to try more offerings of this fun Westmont restaurant.

Latest visit had the kids grilled cheese, kids grilled chicken sandwich, and short rib sandwich. Food was very good, but... short rib sandwich portion was a little small and fries weren't crisp enough. Kids loved their sandwiches. Also, both visits (during winter) restaurant was too cold and bathroom was absolutely freezing like a window was open. Still, I'd recommend this place - it's got a lot going for it - see my previous review.

First time to Neat just a bit ago. Awesome experience, will for sure go back and would 100% suggest to a friend. We had the beer cheese potato soup that had brew dog beer in it along with crunchy bacon, some chunks of tatoe and green onion. It wasn't too rich and I think I could go swimming in that soup, if given a choice. Next, two of us had the fish tacos that had mahi mahi, a simple yet great cabbage slaw and what tasted like a chipotle sauce on homemade corn tortillas. AWESOME! Simple but superbly executed and satisfying. Another diner had the chopped salad which was a true cob salad. All of the pieces were a uniform bite size piece and the dressing was bright yet well balanced and elegant. She commented that it was the best cob salad she had had while eating out. To finish we had a bread putting that was a great end. The deserts are all named after the ladies in the family. So sweet Amazing food, beer, service, decor and vibe; a true gem in the hood! My only criticism would be to have the beers grouped together by type, like IPA, stout, etc. MUST GO! Jason and the staff are worth it! I will be back.

Absolutely amazing! Creative menu and a respectable beer selection. Stopped in for lunch one day after finding them from a search for French Onion Soup and was blown away. It is excellent. Meet the owners, very nice guys, and told them I'd be coming back in a few days with my cousin. When we did go back, they both said hello and one even brought our soup out for us. Their short rib grilled cheese is to die for. This is my new place to recommend as the best place to eat in the area. Great service, awesome environment, everything you want a good restaurant to be.

Love this place! My husband and I were skeptical when it first opened because the last few businesses in this location turned out to be dives and did not last. During our first night out there we were convinced that this place would be successful. GREAT food! Great drinks, atmosphere is very nice, and the staff are awesome. All wait staff we have had were very knowledgeable about their menu, drinks, and were all very polite. I had very specific questions one evening and the Chef took time to come out and speak with me. I highly recommend this place!

Neat a nice surprise Noticed a new restaurant opened in Neat's location. Several restaurants have occupied this space in the past few years, none lasting too long. Saw that someone I knew had dined there, knowing their tastes, I decided to give it at try. Nice ambiance, bar in the back had very energetic vibe. 5 page list of beers! Also, generous wine list, and quite a few options by the glass. Ordered the beer, cheese and potato soup. Very good, but no bread basket. Salmon was very good. My husband had a chicken cobb salad. Generous portion. Said it was very good. Service was attentive. We'll definitely try it again.

Atmosphere in my opinion 5/5! Huge bar with plenty of seating and large dining area as well. Loved the short rib grilled cheese, tacos were decent and desserts were tasty as well! Extensive craft beer selection with several "drink specials" throughout the week.

So excited to have a "downtown style" restaurant and bar in the area and better yet, within walking distance of our house. My husband and I saw this place getting ready to open and have been looking forward to trying it; we went for dinner tonight and were not disappointed! The décor is a modern vintage with lots of distressed wood and leather, very cool atmosphere. Hostesses were friendly and our server was very knowledgeable on the menu and attentive to our table. The best part of all was the food. We started out with the pork tacos, generous portion for an appetizer, and they were delicious. Everything we had was very good, but the tacos ended up being my favorite. We also had the cobb salad and the 10oz burger. All fantastic! Can't wait to go back and have them again or maybe try something new on the menu. Also hoping to see the bar hoppin on the weekends. Well done Neat!

I dig it. The interior is BEAUTIFUL. seriously. wow. The menu is interesting. Started off with some pork wings. I asked the waiter where the "wing" is on a pig. He wasn't sure and I said "that's fine, was just curious, don't worry about it." He made a point to come back and tell me anyway (the wrist area?), very nice of him. okay, but the pork wings, SO GOOD! Sriracha and Lime! and it came with this little pile of shredded veggies. Highly recommended. Then the burger. I put egg on every burger I can but was reluctant about duck egg. Maybe that's my ignorance. I did it anyway. When eating the burger, I almost felt like it was too much meat? I didn't get to enjoy any of the seasoning or toppings because it was all overwhelmed by meat. I like everything a little more evenly divided. Didn't get a desert but stuck around a little after the meal to take it all in. Vintage door knob coat hooks... come on! A+ for decor.

I finally stopped by Neat with my husband. I typically like to wait to hear positive reviews from friends before we check out a newer restaurant. We were both pleasantly surprised! First off, we went on an early Fri. evening. We were seated right away and had a wonderful waitress that took care of us. I love burgers so naturally I ordered the smallest burger on the menu - the 10oz. Wow! Absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful. My husband ordered the tacos. You get 3 per order so he chose the Fish, the Pork Belly & one Ancho Chicken. He liked them so much he ordered another- the Pork Pibil. My husband commented on the great beer selection and ordered one of his favorites Lagunitas IPA. We both liked the open space and cool urban decor and there's a free parking lot next door. We will definitely eat there again!

My wife, a couple of our friends and I have come here for some drinks and it is a great place. They have TONS of drink options and all kinds of different beers and wines. Great selections. Their is an awesome atmosphere there as well. I felt like part of the family going there and everyone is so friendly. The bartender named Sarah is great. She was very nice and had good drink suggestions. Coming here again soon!

I want to love this place, really I do. But it it is sooo average and really not that good. I can make better food at home. Why the 3 stars? Service, wine and beer selection are excellent. But the Food is barely 2 stars worthy. The tacos are no Big Star, the Burgers are no Kumas or even DMK status. I feel awful saying this as the owners are delightful and I want small business owners to be successful. I just wish their food was as awesome as their wine and beer list.

  • Joel S.

The food here is really good. Nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary, but it's as good as any American/bar food around. The burgers are really good, the steak was good. It's already a standby, and I've only been there two or three times. The beer list is pretty good. Not to the level of Standard Market / Tap House / Bavarian Lodge (which is unfair, as B.L. is world class), but Neat is a solid B+ and it seems like they are trying. The service is great. I am really happy to see this place in the neighborhood, and I will be back many times.

WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW! Ok now that I have your attention, this place is awesome! I can't believe that we actually have a foody place in Westmont! I had the French Onion Soup....fantastic! Then I had the "neatburger". Let me just say that I ordered a $40 Kobe burger in Vegas once. This burger destroyed it!

  • Kayli M.

The prices are too high for the amount/quality of the food. I have come here every time with my family so we end up spending over $50 each time (The kids meal is way over priced for a downtown Westmont restaurant, this isn't Hinsdale people). My brother and his friends went there to hangout at the bar and watch the game. Maybe I'll try that on a night out and have a better experience. That seems to be where a lot of their business is every time I am there/driving past.

What a breath of fresh air in the neighborhood! Cool decor was definitely urban chic with great lighting from the windows. We started with the calamari - lightly fried with the chipotle aioli sauce was great; my friends enjoyed the appetizer of asparagus. I ordered a sampling of the tacos -- shrimp taco was my favorite. My friend said the Neat Burger was fantastic. Overall super dinner, attentive staff and present owner. My only recommendation to them would be to not try to clear our plates off so fast. Otherwise, two thumbs up!

We so wanted this to be our new hang out. We came in at 11:30 pm on a Saturday and there was maybe a dozen people at the bar. We sat at a side counter away from the bar but couldn't hear our conversation. Nice outside and great interior decor. Hope to give it another chance for food.

Fantastic. Period. So refreshing to find a cool, fresh, restaurant that is one of a kind and not in the Chicago city limits. I live in Homer Glen, aka the restaurant desert. Love finding hip places to satisfy my foodie palate. Love not having to travel too far to get my fix. Beer menu is extensive, which pleased my husband & friend. I had a cocktail (no cocktail menu) I told them the ingredients and it was perfect on the first try. We had the taco appetizer, it was great. The pork wings (not sure what part of the pig that is). Outstanding! 2 of us had the 1/2 chicken, they said it was the best chicken they ever had. My friend had the Neat burger, she loved it. I had the Grilled cheese and short rib sandwich. It was quite unique and I will have it again. We ended with 2 desserts, the poached pears, which were good but not my favorite and a banana / chocolate dessert, that was a winner. Only thing I'd like to change....outside tables do not accommodate 4 people, I like alfresco dining.

Wow! We had sampled some of Neat's food a few weeks ago at the Taste of Westmont, so we were prepared to like it. But we were blown away by how much we liked. We started with the chicken tacos which we had sampled at the Taste. They were even better this time. They are served simply with just meat and a little yogurt sauce. They have the perfect amount of spice that leaves your mouth tingling even when they take the empty plate away. But the creamy yogurt sauce evens out the burn. I ordered the skirt steak which was cooked to perfection. It comes with thin, salty fries. I left nothing on my plate. Since I was brought up always needing a vegetable I also ordered a side of Brussels sprouts with salsa verde...amazing! I could've eaten them all as my meal. My husband ordered the Neatburger, by recommendation from one of the chefs. It was served medium rare with a fried duck egg oozing out the sides. The crisp shallots added the right amount of saltiness. Somehow we were talked into dessert. The portions were small, but all you really need is a small bite of something sweet. We had the Sin cake, a flour less chocolate cake served with mocha ice cream. Delicious. On top of the food, the waitstaff was great. Our server, Angie, was very knowledgeable when it came to there extensive beer list. And the other servers kept our table clear and the water glasses full which is a big deal to us. One of the chefs checked on us several times making recommendations as well as one of the owners. We cannot wait to go to Neat again.

It's new, so we tried to be patient. But they weren't busy and we hand to hunt our waiter down at least 5 times including to ask twice for a bill. If they staffed and trained appropriately this place should have a successful run. Nice environment, great menu, well prepared plates. We enjoyed everything we ordered. I recommend it, but be prepared to be a little patient.

Brand new, fabulous food, eclectic menu. Comfortable, hip bar. Stopped in during Westmont Fest and for just opening pretty busy. Plug/outlets for your phones & I pads at the bar with free Wi- FI. Brilliant idea. I complained that my phone was dead.. the bartender pointed these out. If you stop in, which I highly recommend, the chili is different, but oh so good. Champagne vignarette for salad dressing- They nailed it. And my salmon - nice. My friend had their burger- with three different meats- said it was delicious & definitely would come back. Pork tacos- best ever! The marinades and spices used complement the foods and meats. Not overpowering. Our waiter said that the menu will have some regular staples, but will be changed daily. Friendly staff- a few things to work on- it is brand new. Would highly recommend you stop here. They have just raised the bar for neighborhood restaurants. From decor to food. They even have a nice kids menu. This will definitely be a restaurant we will frequent often.

Do you like craft beer? Neat is for you. Do you like wine? Neat is for you. Do you like good whiskey? Neat is for you. The food? Phenomenal. The service? Amazing (especially if Molly is your waitress). The $? Totally reasonable. The ambience? Terrific. This is our favorite date night place in the Western burbs. Seriously- go here. You won't be disappointed! PS- the pibil tacos and the short rib grilled cheese are to die for

The Neat kitchen + Bar did a tremendous job on the burger with making the blu cheese inside perfectly, the shrimp tacos were simply meh. The burger was cooked to perfection for the most part of being medium rare and it did not fall apart at all! Hooray for that. It was delicious. The bacon dust should've been on top as I didn't taste it at all... It was there tho salty as heck. Onion marmalade was fine. The tacos left me with disappointment for 12$. I easily could've gotten a better dish at the patio or another fast food place for that price. There were like two shrimps which were small to begin with. Service is kind and friendly... Uncomfortable bench to sit on in the waiting area though. It's ok. Nothing to special. The bill was still 32$. For three petty shrimpy tacos and a buuuuurger. Much better than any other open late establishment...maybe if I could drink is have a different opinion of this place. I guess overall They're deserving of 4 stars at least as this was a seriously excellent burger.

The food and beer at Neat seriously rate a five. We've been here dozens of times and never been disappointed in anything. My faves are the pork belly buns, the pork wings (shanks), the tacos, the burgers, the brisket grilled cheese and the steaks. And though they "only" have a dozen taps, they're generally well thought out and the bottle and can lists are extensive. Great selection of spirits, too. The atmosphere and decor are also superb. The only drawback is that at times the service can be a bit lackadaisical. The servers are invariably very nice, but at times you forget what they look like since they don't always come around as often as they should. I've noticed that this has gotten better, however. But we still generally eat at the bar, both so I can keep an eye on the game and so we're just a shout away from the bartender when we need something.

This place wasn't what I expected from the pictures. I drove by it about 3 times before I found it. The inside it set up interesting but it is cute. From other yelpers, I wanted to try the burger. The taste of the burger was excellent. Although it is excellent, I have had phenom burgers so they are only about a 3, which isn't bad. The presentation of the food is nice. Their fries tasted homemade, which paired up with the burger very well! The downside is, I ordered my burger medium and it was RED in the middle and very pink on the outsides. So basically, I ate around the middle. Today, I'm not feeling too well, but I will not be that guy to blame the burger. The service was great. I had an extremely nice waitress! The restaurant is very open and it carries noise, so if this place gets packed, I can see it being very noisy. I will be back to try the chopped salad because it looks amazing. :) I'll give an update once I try it.

Went here on a Saturday evening around 5:30. To start with, the food was pretty good. The wings were tasty but we thought $9 for 6 small wings was quite high. My husband had a short rib grilled cheese, he thought it was just ok, he didn't care for the type of cheese they used. My spicy pork sandwich was very good and was huge. The fries were ok. The service was decent, and they were very good about refilling our drinks. What we disliked the most was that the tables were so close together. I know they are sort of going for an "urban" vibe but I just don't like hearing my neighbors conversations. Plus the waiter kept sort of knocking into my husband when he would serve the table next to us.

This is our second visit here.. I told the hubs we needed to go because our first visit was a little "blurry", if you know what I mean ; ) I was very interested in going back & this visit did not disappoint! It was early afternoon on a Saturday & we were greeted & seated immediately. The menu seemed small but once I got to looking at it, I realized it was packed full of beautiful dishes.Their beer/wine/whiskey menu on the other hand is not small at all! I was overwhelmed by the endless possibilities & the server was kind and asked if she could help in any way. Lady, when it comes to these decisions there is no helping me! LOL We ordered the calamari to start. The batter was light, the calamari was not at all chewy & the spicy mayo concoction it was served with was pretty yummy. In my opinion, the batter definitely could use a little salt & pepper but my husband says I am crazy. Whatever, I like my salt, don't judge me. Not surprising at all, I was undecided for my entree sooooo we shared The Burger & the short rib grilled cheese (with a side of brussel sprouts). The burger was quite possibly the BEST burger I have ever had! I am salivating thinking about it as I am typing! The seasoning & mixture of meats they put together is just so delicious, I don't even know how to describe it. Definitely a must try when you go. The short rib grilled cheese was.. um, well, different. Not bad necessarily but different. There was a sauce or something on there that gave a weird after taste, Not really sure what it was but it didn't really set well with me. The side of sprouts had an asian fusion kinda thing going on... soy sauce & ginger. Pretty good & different from the bacon and onion norm. Here's a little secret though.. the ones that are at the bottom of the dish. sitting in all the juices.. yeah eat those first. Those are money! See you soon Neat!!

Been here before for beers and they have a great craft beer list. This was our first time having dinner and having read the reviews, we were expecting better, to say the least. My portabella was either really old and dried out or overcooked -- either way, it was like trying to chew a shoe. Because I couldn't get my teeth through it, I had the choice of either swallowing it whole or spitting out, and I chose the latter, discreetly. Meanwhile, my companion was served a delicious looking burger with pieces of wire in it. The manager apologized, laughingly saying that they'd "get the chef a new SOS pad', and a replacement burger was brought out. Unfortunately, my companion was unable to eat it because his appetite was now gone. We just wanted to pay the check and go home, but the server unexpectedly brought us a triple-berry bread pudding -- we hadn't ordered it so I'm guessing it was intended as some kind of an apology. We really didn't want anything else from the kitchen and just wanted to leave, so we didn't eat that either. We asked for the check. When the check arrived, it included a charge for the wireburger. They removed the charge when we requested they do so, but the chef came out and leaned against the bar, staring at us while we waited for the revised check, and while we paid it. Not cool. There are lots of places in the western suburbs offering great selections of craft beer and great food. If you want both, this isn't the place for you.

I'm always down for trying a new restaurant... I came across a groupon-type deal for $30 and our dinner last night came to $7.52 with that. My sister and I both ordered tacos (she got chicken, I got steak), I got a blue moon and after reading a number of reviews, we had to have the triple berry bread pudding for dessert. We just came from a movie, and we weren't looking for a heavy dinner on top of what we put down at the movie theater. We came here between 5 & 6 on a Sunday...there was no wait, the place wasn't really crowded, though I could see it getting pretty packed on a weekend night. It's a trendy kind of place, I really liked the atmosphere inside. We got seated with our food menus, and pretty big lists of craft beer and wine available there. Our food came up in a reasonable amount of time, the services was good, and the dessert was heaven on earth. I enjoyed my meal here, as my sister did too...I'd definitely return to try something else next time.

We were glad to find this place for after dinner drink. The lobby was open, raw and chic with a down to earth style. Another part I loved was the enough space between tables. We asked a bottle of Pinot Grigio with four different tacos: pork, steak, port belly, and fish. We all loved pork belly and fish. The mussels were pretty good too. With this comfortable place and nice flow of the conversation, we asked for more wine and the awesome berry bread pudding. The food was not the most important thing at this place. The atmosphere was relaxing and warm and comfortable. The service was very attentive and on the point. Definitely recommend this place for the get together with friends.

Sooooo we had to give this place a second chance.... This time, food was A LOT better... Pork belly appetizer -- 3 pcs.... I would've preferred 4 pcs... Weird when you and your date would fight for the 3rd one lol.... But it's really good... 8/10 Prime rib French onion soup - still yum 9/10 Short ribs (entree) - dee lish ... Not "melt in your mouth" Cooper's Hawk Short Ribs... BUT awesome flavor, I'm pleased 9/10 Pork chops ( special of the night ) - my bf wished it was cooked really "medium" But it's a thick cut so he was more forgiving because it has great flavor too.... 8/10 Dessert --- banana custard --- this is really really good too.... Custardy like Creme brûlée but with a twist and topped with ice cream.... What more can you ask for? 10/10 Bartender still needs a little more enthusiasm.... I mean this is the second time we're here, tipping really good.... Next time we expect more cheerful attitude.... Even a fake one.... See...I'm so used to looking at a bartender ( from posh lounges to a typical bar ) who looks pretty, looks presentable.... Maybe a bit risqué, but definitely friendly and extra nice.... Maybe the third time is the charm? Or 4th? Hmmmm...

We came here yet again, this time during the Westmont Street Fair, or Cruising Nights, or whatever they're calling it this week. Service was good, food was good. They have a setup outside with live music on summer Thursdays to go with the street event. I keep warming up to this place. I wish the menu was a little wider, but overall it's a good and improving experience. I do love their bar as well. There aren't many bars in town where I'll go in just for the bar, but this is definitely one of them.

Our first time at Neat Kitchen and Bar and it was a great one. Great food and portion sizes, we had the short ribs and 1/2 chicken. I was so full, but couldn't stop eathing, the food is very cravable. We didn't have room for dessert, but next time we will save room. Our server was great, and very professional. We were shown around by him and got a chance to meet one of the owners. We will be back to Neat very soon. This gem is a must go to if you are in the area, as a matter of fact its worth the drive even if you are far away!!!

To think that I have been driving by this place for months now and never actually stopping in. We were looking for something in the area for dinner and saw all the reviews and the ratings, we thought we'd finally give it a shot. Hands down, the absolute best burger I have eaten in a very very long time. They cooked it exactly how we asked--medium rare. Not overcooked or undercooked at all. Perfect. It's so hard to do, but they did it. And the burger was so flavorful. We were trying to figure out what the seasonings were. Excellent list of beers. We also got a frisee salad, which was done perfectly as well. As good as one would get at a french bistro. And we got the pork belly tacos. Those were good. But I think we were so full that we could not enjoy it. Overall, I would definitely be back for more burgers and beer.

What is not to like about this place? Extensive drink menu to appease my craft beer addiction, good wine list, and plenty of cocktails! The decor sets a great ambience. Loved the lighting and Edison bulbs above tables. The service was terrific and loved how they presented my Ballast Point Sculpin IPA as if it was wine and showed me bottle before the gentle pour. Oh and the food was delicious. Highly recommend pork belly and calamari apps. The tacos are very good and the pork chop was beyond succulent. We will definitely be back. Great job Neat!

I've been here for lunch several times and will absolutely keep coming back. Neat is inconspicuous on the outside/the location, but warm and inviting inside. The drink selection and craft beer options are phenomenal. The food (I've had burgers, sandwiches, soup) are excellent and you get a solid bang for your buck.

No doubt one of the best gastropubs around. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, mellow ambiance, and fitting background tunes have led to great experiences had by the wife and I. Huge craft beer list, specialty cocktails, and vino galore are just some of the things we look for in our favorite hangouts, and they've got them. Food has been above reproach during our visits, and quite possibly some of the best offerings we've ever had. The FRIED CALAMARI is solid. Lightly breaded and cooked to tender magnificence. No chew whatsoever, and accompanied well with their spicy mayo. Their "BURGER" is ridiculous, comprised of ground chuck, short rib, and brisket...add a slice of cheese, order it medium, and trust me you'll be happy. The meat is throw your head back juicy, popping with flavor, and seasoned to perfection. SPROUTS had more of an Asian-inspired spin, boasting soy sauce, ginger, and lemon. Grilled and sauteed until tender, seasoned well and near void of common bitterness. There was some inconsistency with the bigger pieces...to be expected I suppose. The SHORT RIB GRILLED CHEESE is a bit of a head scratcher. I think there's a bit too much going on within the walls of pressed bread. Sweet yet sour, rich and briny, there's a lot of contrast in the ingredients. Not sure that the combo of sweet meat, tart onion, and creamy Fontina achieved quite the levels we hoped. A good sandwich no doubt, but a change in accoutrement could bring it to new heights. Atmosphere, vibe, drinks, food...Neat Kitchen has everything going for it. Prices are right but believe me, drinks and dinner for two will set you back a bit. Don't check in on a budget, try something new (I will!), and enjoy!

We just had a very nice dinner here with a group of 14. Let's see what Neat kitchen & Bar did right to pick up the stars. 1. They were able to accommodate our large group easily & provide the attention we needed. Great place to go with friends! Friendly staff which is very important to me. 2. Large craft beer selection. I was able to find a new standout beer here with some help after discussing my preferences. 3. Great food. I wish I could have tried everyone's meal but I couldn't. I did get my hands on a few things of course. I went with a healthy option & ordered the salmon which was cooked perfectly & seasoned well. My husband went with the Neat burger which I obviously tried & I would dare to say is the best burger I've ever had. I had a bite of the short rib grilled cheese which was good too. We also had the edamame & calamari for starters which I enjoyed as well. I think the standout of everything I tried would definitely have to be the burger. I think it's difficult to find a good burger & that is why I don't usually order them. This one I would come back for. I heard it was recently in the newspaper which I think it deserves. 4. Enjoyable & appealing atmosphere. I would call it rustic contemporary. The lighting is just right with enough over head light but not too much & candlelight in mason jars on the tables. It is set up so you have enough space between other tables and don't feel cramped. There was a nice crowd but we could hear each other easily. We will definitely return in the future. Next time we will try some new things but also be sure to get the burger.
