Before I begin my review, for all of you reviewers bitching about bohemian food understand one thing. We aren't known for our bold flavor profiles or variety. What we are known for is our portion size. That being said if you want 3 plate sized slabs of breaded pork, stuffed potato dumplings the size of a man's fist and enough gravy to drown a baby in come to the Westchester. For an average dinner (with soup and dessert) you'll pay around 12-13 bucks and will get more food than most can eat in one sitting. We have been here multiple times with family and friends and leave feeling full and satisfied. Just be forewarned that many of these dishes are comfort food and are great to eat in the middle of winter, but not in the dog days of summer. This is stick to your ribs food at an affordable price. The food is not the best Czech food that I've had but the friendly service and price tag always has us coming back. They also offer take out if you don't want to find a seat in this small location. Overall this is a nice little place.

Prices and waitress service always good, portion sizes large. They have very reasonable lunch specials, if your up for trying something away from your FAVS. This place is smaller than some other Bohemian places.

Great food. Great value. The breaded pork tenderloin is my fav.

I love this place! I always eat here with my dad when I am visiting Chicago. The waitresses are very friendly and helpful. The food is always good. It reminds me of my grandmother's cooking and eating at her house as a little girl. Yay! Try it! You will like it.

This is old-school Bohemian food. It is fairly bland, mostly white and full of carbs and fat, but that is what Bohemian food is all about. Don't expect anything healthy. Do expect lots of food! And it's quite reasonable. The restaurant itself is pretty cramped so when I get this stuff for my dad, I get it to carry out. Most of their dishes are good. I would warn you that the roast pork is almost always dry and overcooked. So if you want to eat with the senior citizen crowd, and have the food that your Babushka used to love, give it a try.

My husband and I love the Westchester Inn. I'm not even a big fan of Czech cooking (my husband is), but I have to give this place credit for its great food, ample servings (value!) attentive service and nice, authentic-looking atmosphere. (Small and cozy and with a loyal following!) Located on the east side of a strip mall anchored by Dominick's -- you could miss it if you're not familiar with the area. But if you love this cuisine, you won't want to miss it! Westchester Inn also offers carry out meals which have been a blessing for having an authentic, home-cooked meal at home without the fuss. I highly recommend it!

The food is really great and authentic. The service is extremely slow though but this isn't a place where you're going to get in and get out. It's a place for taking grandma and grandpa on a lunch/dinner outing.

I must admit a slight jingoistic bias (unscientific in nature) concerning Bohinsky joints located outside the Old Country (In this case, Berwyn/Cicero). In my youth, I saw any Zelly Palace west of Harlem Avenue as illegitimate, or an interloper at least. I even had an attitude about the "Knedlicky House" at the corner of Harlem and Ogden, which I considered too far from the Magnetic center of Cermak Rd. That I had stunning meals at regular intervals by the Riverside Restaurant (in guess where?), Bohemian Crystal in Westmont, and the Corner in Brookfield (including the single most decadent dish to ever pass these lips--BREADED DEEP FRIED BBQ RIBS) was attributed to luck each time, and not to care or skill in any of their kitchens. Blind luck, thought me, as I continued to give each one of these innocent places the stink-eye each time I passed one of them. I had heard rumblings about the Westchester Inn for years, which I promptly dismissed, out of sheer ignorance and nothing more. It looked too small and had a funny name for a Czech place. Of course if this was Toledo Ohio with the same restaurant with the same surroundings, I would be reporting here about the cracker box boite I found-gushing, I tell you. The place is pretty damned good. Last night, the menu showed no sign of the Potage Franca, "Liver-Dumpling Soup". (don't go eeewww! It's de rigueur here even for those who don't like liver!). The waitress said "No worry, we make for you"--and it was top-notch! My Pal had Roast Pork, and I swung with the 1/2 Roast Duck. Both of us chose Bread dumplings and Kraut on the side. The duck was at least superb with crispy skin and no gross lumps of fat under it, even as such the meat was moist and delicious. Apfel strudel and actually good Coffee rounded out this fine feed. Would you believe I've had appetizers at fancy Frog joints that cost more than the total Tab at this place? A great place to eat. But what am I saying?? Ehh....they got lucky!

Always nice prompt service with good food. For you sauerkraut purists out there though, the sauerkraut pierogies have mushrooms in them. I wish there had a little larger selection of beer but at least they mostly have east European brands. They do not serve hard liquor, only beer and wine.

My first visit came during construction in the mall. There is scaffolding up as bricks are being installed on posts. Parking lot is blocked off in areas and it was just generally frustrating to try and find this place hiding under scaffolding. It is small and cozy inside and I recommend a table because booths are very uncomfortable. Entrees come with soup and dessert. The beef noodle soup was hot and tasty. Portions are generous and beware that the gravy is VERY thin, as opposed to creamy. The hair I found on the plate with my kolacky ruined the entire experience. I know that dessert is part of your meal, but there were no adjustments made on the bill for this mishap. Service was friendly and wait time is appropriate. It tends to be a local place with older regulars. Overall, even with the hair, A-OK.

Craving some good bohemian food and decided to try it have not been here for 3 yrs and remembered how good it was. This time we were shocked about the increased prices and the food was tasteless from soup to desert all bad , the fruit dumplings had a speck of fruit in them and were all dough the pork tenderloin was bland and chewy, I would not recommend this place overpriced and poor quality food. Very disappointed. However the service was very good but we still will not be back

Pretty much the only thing I can eat at a "bohemian" restaurant as a non meat eater is fruit dumplings, vegetable side items - and lots of rye bread. And even so, I order the fruit dumplings with no cottage cheese (I can't stand it) and the butter on the side because melted butter with fruit kind of grosses me out too. My husband looooooves pretty much anything on the menu so it's a real treat for him to come here or to any other bohemian place. He always gets breaded meat something or other. It looks good and I'd probably love it if I ate meat, but alas, I do not I'm not a huge fan of plums so I always ask for all peach fruit dumplings. I sprinkle a tad of cinnamon and a tiny drip of butter overtop and I'm good. There's so much dough that I usually leave half of each dumpling on my plate. I get a kick out of their regular dumplings so I usually steal one from someone but eat it sans gravy. My extended family loves this place for their take out service because you get so much food you have to carry it out in a box. The raspberry kolaczkis are tasty, I must say.

They give you a lot to eat. Small cozy little local feel restaurant. Food was good/OK. Those are the positives. On the other hand the waitress did a good job with refills and moving the food in and out BUT she was very cold. The waitress rude, cold, crabby, no personality. Like what do you want or do you want more.. Instead of would you like more. These weren't the "actual" words just a example of the feeling your gonna get off her. She's a late 50's early 60's soup nazi (sinfield) feel.

This is my go-to place when I am craving Bohemian food, and I basically ALWAYS get wienerschnitzel, dumplings, and sauerkraut. The breading on the meat is crispy and the meat is delicious and tender. The dumplings are perfect, and the sauerkraut is my favorite. They always load up every portion, so I have at least 2 meals from every order. Their beef noodle soup is a little bland, but this IS Bohemian food. It isn't known for it's flavor profile range. The waitresses are always attentive and friendly when we eat in, but I usually do carryout. The atmosphere looks straight out of an eastern European stereotype, but the value of food to price is WONDERFUL here, and I have never been disappointed in the decade-plus we have been eating their wienerschnitzel.

All of the food, particularly the meat, is very dry and dull. Gravy is meant to add savour, not fix a problem. The fruit dumplings are quite tasty, much better than the bland, tough pork; the meatloaf is somewhere in between. The beer selection is paltry, though it does include my favorite Czech beer, Pilsner Urquell. Service was fine, except that the busboy needs to put something on over his undershirt. The comfort and decor are truly mediocre. I recommend trying one of the other Czech restaurants in the Western suburbs instead.

I think I'm converting to Bohemian! Is that possible? This place is great. I am totally unfamiliar with the cuisine, but I'm sold. Decor is nondescript, but the service and particularly the food is not. Beer and wine is a buck! Can you beat that? I had the half duck which was done to difficult perfection. The goulash is fantastic. Breaded pork was excellent. I've been there three times now and each time is a culinary adventure. Bring an extra pair of pants, one size larger because when you've finished your meal, you'll need them.

Small casual dining, great for lunch. The menu consists of different bohemian and american favorites. All of their entries come with a choice of soup, side salad, main menu plus one side, dessert and coffee at very affordable prices

Haven't been there for a few years, but was most memorable just the same. I would say their cuisine mirrors the Bohemian Crystal in Westmont, or the Bohemian Garden in Downers Grove. I was thoroughly satisfied with the quantity and quality of the food, and look forward to dining there in the future. The accommodations are very small, but if you get a table you will most likely be comfortable. Food tastes home made, and I always ended up bringing leftovers home for another tasty snack. Don't miss this one, even if you're not eastern European. It is memorable and will be a favorite place to dine!

Excellent Bohemian food!! Always consistent....the best breaded pork tenderloin I've ever had! The best fruit dumplings ever! Plan on taking half home for lunch the next day, their portions are huge. You can eat damn good for $10.00 or less.

Like the previous poster said, it's a hit with the 60+ crowd. I come here with my grandma to grab dinner once a month. LARGE PORTIONS! I got the fried pork chop (two slabs of it is in one entree) and ended up boxing 2/3 of it. Which was great because with the leftover pork and cabbage, I made some rice and re-hashed it as tonkatsu the next day XD YUM! The servers are nice, and it is just a great deal.

Its like most Czech restaurants. You get big food portions and can get away with spending anything more than $10 for a meal. Its can be hard to spot at first since its the smallest restaurant I've ever been in. (its in the back corner of the shopping plaza next to Scott's Pet Shop)

  • Aric C.

First off the portions here are very generous! I ordered the Turkey and stuffing with mashed potatoes, Cucumber salad, Beef noodle soup, And apple strudel for dessert. Took more than half of it home with me, there was just so much food. We also had the Meatloaf and the rabbit specials that were good as well. Also brought most of those home.

tiny little eastern european restaurant (czech/polish/bohemian). two things in its favor: (1) the servers are all immigrants, which can be fun; (2) the food is well-made and, even though i am not a fan of this type of food, can be tasty. don't expect great service or any ambiance whatsoever.

  • Pat L.

Excellent fruit dumplings! One order feeds two...seriously...no, really, seriously. The restaurant is simple and not fancy, as a matter of fact the wooden chairs are downright uncomfortable, but I'd sit in them all day for a great meal and that's what you get at Westchester Inn. One hint: If you order the fruit dumplings, ask for sour cream instead of cottage cheese...who puts cottage cheese on fruit dumplings?

Really excellent Bohemian food! More than enough for you and yours. The bread basket is a winner too! Too bad they had to discontinue the free glass of wine promotion.

I really liked the breaded pork tenderloin but I would not recommend going with the sandwich (too much bread) and dumplings were basically bread too. They did a good job serving 12 of us at once. The veggies were bland and the gravy wasn't that great either. I would like to try the goulash next time (the Hungarian goulash was just ok to me but it was my first time trying it so it may be authentic, I don't know). I would come back.

One never appreciates how good the food is until you've had the same dish somewhere else. I had the pleasure to dine at another Bohemian style restaurant this week. And while the food was pretty good, it made me appreciate just how special the food is at Westchester Inn. Of course, the breaded pork tenderloin is the best I've had anywhere. Also, Grandma's pork dish is wonderful as well. A couple of times ago, I think some one ordered the meat loaf and it looked as if the waitress was bringing two loaves of bread! Good news for those on a diet (or those who know that leftovers are never as good as it was when it was freshly served), they now have small portions for a few dollars less. I really love this place!

I love this place, The breaded pork is the best, so is the pork roast, truthfully I don't know how they do it for so cheap,it smells like an old fashioned kitchen, the soup, bread, is terrific, and on the weekend $1 dollar buys you a glass of wine or a beer, come on where do you get that? if you have not tried it please do so, I don't think there is any thing over 11 bucks on the menu.........

Spectacular Bohemian restaurant. Everything seems to be made from scratch. Not much on ambiance, but I'm OK with that. The portions are very generous, so if you go for lunch, be sure to order the small size, because that is more than enough. I like their wiener schnitzel and breaded / fried pork chops the best. My only complaint would be the vegetables seem like they must be frozen or canned - definitely not fresh. Their soups are also awesome.

One of the best Bohemian restaurants I've ever been to. The amount of food compared to the price is phenomenal. It's enough for at least two dinners. I usually get the weiner schnitzel with the sweet and sour cabbage. Said cabbage here is absolutely the best s&s cabbage I have ever tasted in all my years. I tried the potato dumplings, which were good. This place is phenomenal, the best Bohemian food I've ever had It can get pretty packed if you get there for early lunch, since there's a dollar off your entree.

Westchester Inn has some pretty good food and huge portions. We ordered take-out from there and 3 meals come in a moving box. So much food for such a small price. I wish they had a wider variety of food, and maybe a side order of pierogi. The breaded pork loin is tender and the roast pork literally falls apart; no knife needed. Westchester in is a place I see myself going back time and time again.

YUMMY!!! The breaded pork tenderloin is so delicious here! It's moist, just the right amount of breading and served with a side of gravy. Hubby & I both ordered the small order for lunch and neither of us could finish ours! It came with soup, potatoes or dumplings, a side of veggies AND dessert! All that for $8.95!!! We're definitely coming back to try the other menu choices!

Decent Bohemian food, but remember, the further west from Cicero & Berwyn you go, the higher the prices!

  • Lynn C.

Real stick-to-your-ribs food! Choice of small or large sizes for the entrees. Soup or tomato juice, choice of potato, choice of cabbage or sauerkraut, and choice of dessert are all included with entrees. Excellent prices and large portions (even the small). The mixed vegetables were a bit mushy and canned-tasting, otherwise everything was tasty. Nice basket of rye bread and crackers brought to the table. Seems to be a big hit with the over 60 crowd, which I find comforting. Not slick, but homey in atmosphere.

  • Kathryn K.

The food is delicious, the portions are large, and the service is good. The only negative is that they charge you more, for the same meals, on the weekends.

  • Mike G.

After reading recent reviews, I was a bit concerned going to Westchester Inn but I really enjoyed it! I had the Gypsy Goulash and meat pierogi, which were both excellent! Service was fantastic and the price, for three of us, wasn't bad at all. They were very accommodating and helped friends of mine understand the menu and the different ingredients in each dish they asked about. I'd go back, but it will take me a days to finish the amount of food I had left over!

  • Mary Fran M.

The food was plentiful and served hot. We had the roasted chicken and stuffed cabbage and both were very tasty. Service was cold and lacking though. The food courses were brought to our table without comment. We had to ask for coffee even though it was included with the meal. The cream on the table curdled in my coffee which prevents a 5 star rating from me. The other waitress seemed very friendly with the regulars. We will give it another try to see if it was just an off day for our server.
