Paul's Pizza is an amazing place to eat when you are hungry. The menu has a wide selection that will satisfy any hunger crave. The food is reasonably priced and served in good portions. In addition, the food is of good quality and is served quickly when dining inside. Besides the food, Paul's offers an environment that is both friendly and welcoming.

Excellent food. Generous portions. Great prices. Fast service. Family friendly. Pretty much a Westchester institution, but everyone is welcome.

I work not far from Paul's and I have frequented this establishment over the last 10 years. It's a typical diner, nothing fancy to the eye, but the customer service and food is great! Paul is usually at the register. He's a very happy and friendly guy and seems to recognize most of the guest in the place. So tons of repeat customers here! Everyone I have gone with has loved this place too, well except for my salad loving health nut freak of a coworker :), so go elsewhere if you want a salad!! BUT if you want diner food this is the place for you. I have tried most of the menu and my favorite items I always go back to is the burger which is charbroiled and made fresh to order. The homemade meatball sub and get the mozzarella cheese to make it even better. Great gyros with tons of meat! And my all time favorite is the Italian beef on garlic bread with mozzarella. YUM!!!!

I am stunned by some of these reviews. Paul's has the best hot dogs and beef in Chicago. No, of course there's no beer, wine, juice or smoothies. IT'S A HOT DOG STAND! The portions are large, the beef and sausage and dogs are really tasty, and you will see lots of regulars saying hello to the owner. They don't get free food (except the cops), they just have known Paul a long time and he has been exceptionally good to the community. Is it health food? No, but it doesn't claim to be. It's just good old Chicago style joint-around-the-corner goodness! Every day has a different specia. The footlong special on Saturdays is one of my favorites. Order catering from Paul's and you will get many compliments. Their broasted chicken is fabulous.

I've tried Paul's 4 or 5 times and gotten something different each time. Each visit seems a bit hit-and-miss for me. The Italian Beef on garlic bread held awesome promise (hello, EVERY joint should offer a Beef on garlic bread!!!!), but while gigantic it was, the flavor and spice of the beef was really boring. Tried the Italian Breaded Steak sandwich with red sauce and mozzarella. OK, but nothing like Ricobene's or Casciani's. Had a cheeseburger last night and that was pretty good and saw the sausage and chicken breast grilling along with it and now I have to try those. As far as "beef joints" go, it's the closest to me in terms of how fast I can get there, so it'll always be on my list. I need to try some of the beef joints on Ogden in Brookfield to see how those are.

Stopped here a couple of times since my last visit and Paul still delivers with good food. If anything has changed, it's only for the better. Big forarmed sized italian beef is stuffed with even more beef, pizza has improved, and I just recently had their fried eggplant parmesan sandwich which was great. Place gets busy around mealtimes, sometimes too busy for the staff to keep clean so eating in can be a bit dicey. But for take out, definitely the place to go.

Paul's has my favorite Italian Beef sandy. So ace. Paul is a delight to chat with as well. Always friendly. Fries are on point. Everything here is awesome and just makes you feel like you can conquer the world. I bought an Italian Beef sandwich from Paul once and brought the sandwich home and fed it to my house plant and the plant turned into Groot.

Good selection, ambiance and prices. Spaghetti and lasagna specials are a great value. They keep the dining area well stocked and clean. Only Con: For what ever reason it takes them a long time to prepare chicken sandwiches and simple hamburgers... up to 10 minutes. A nice local neighborhood joint anyway!

It was the Holidaze, and we wanted Ricobene's but my Hemorrhoids were really kicking in, so we stopped here. I got the egg plant parm sandwich, with fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, vanilla and chocolate shake and a diet coke because I'm counting my calories. Everything was wonderful. I will return to Paul's!

Very reasonably priced food, good portions, especially when ordering the daily specials. Nice, friendly staff. Ordered ahead a few times for 3+ people. Orders consistently right. They are awesome about splitting the orders when calling and no issues when paying in person. $7 CC minimum and they kindly still ran my card when it came to under $7. The sloppy joe daily special was tasty. Pastas are big with good garlic bread.

For me, you can't come to Chicago and not have Paul's Italian beef. I've had them all and then some all over the country. It is of my humble opinion that Paul's is the best Italian beef you can get anywhere in the USA. Today I stopped to pick up some beef to serve for a dinner party my auntie and I are hosting this weekend and decided to have lunch, my cousin al loves their sausage and recommended it so I decided to have a beef and sausage combo sandwich along with the au jus on the side and hot peppers. Absolutely outstanding on the beef and sausage side bursting with flavor, very fresh and served dry by my request, I feel like it gets too messy when its soaking in its own juice. Nice size dining room with an old school walk up and Paul himself greeting you to take your order. Wash it down with an icy cold RC Cola and you have the essential south sider Chicago lunch. Outstanding work to Paul and his people. See you tomorrow!

Whenever I'm in the area I stop at Paul's and get their Italian Steak Sandwich, Matter of fact I buy one and to eat there and buy two more to eat at home. They have the best Steak Sandwiches in the Chicagoland area. Hot dogs and Pizza are good to,

My husband and I were passing through the area at lunchtime on the way to WI for my cousin's wedding. The service was good - quick and friendly. I got a slice of pepperoni pizza and some fried mushrooms. My husband got the Saturday special - a footlong hotdog with everything (tomatoes, pickles, onions, relish and peppers) and fries. Everything was good - not great, but good. The pizza slice was huge with lots of cheese. The mushrooms were tasty. My husband said the hotdog was "nothing special. I could get the same kind of hotdog at Sonic." Do they have Sonics here? Everything was ok. I was just expecting a little more flavor and better quality after reading the good reviews. Maybe I should have gotten that beef sandwich everyone was raving about.

***Do not deliver****I placed an order for delivery and delivery guy Bob was extremely rude said it was an inconvenience to deliver to my location and to look for me. Granted it didn't even take me 5 minutes to find him. Even said he will take the food back. I still took the food and paid for it. Only reason I give 2 stars is because I spoke with Paul about my experience with deliver guy and he was nice. Only thing I didn't like was that Paul said he was going to have a conversation with Bob but at the level of rudeness Bob gave me I feel he should be placed at another position before Paul loses anymore customers. I was really excited about finding a new place to get food but now not sure if I will continue. Also I wasn't offered for a credit of my food or some sort of offer to get me back to the restaurant

And sandwiches! We stopped in on an Friday evening and I was excited to try their eggplant parmesan special. For $6.50, you get a huge helping of fried eggplant, cheesy goodness and sauce on top of a 12" sub bun along with a side of crispy crinkly fries. Seriously, this is Man vs. Food. It was nearly impossible to finish this sandwich in a single sitting and it was so good that we got another to-go! The staff was friendly, service was quick and the place is super clean. I'd definitely stop back if in the area again to try their other offerings.

I've passed the place up more times than I can count on my way home from work. It's kind of tucked back in one of those large open plaza malls. With a name like Paul's hotdogs & pizza I wasn't really expecting. When you walk in the place is fairly large the small ordering window and food pick up is way to the side leaving room for quite a few tables. The many of the tables were lined up for group seating. It a large menu ranging from hotdogs, italian beef, pizza, burgers and other items along those lines. Today I the 11inch italian beef on garlic bread with mozzarella and sweet peppers, and a slice of sausage pizza. The beef tasted decent. Its not the best I've had but it was still fairly good. Where they made up the difference was in the portion. This sandwich felt like a lot more than 11 inch and was packed pretty well with beef, peppers and cheese. The pizza actually one of the better slices I've had in the burbs. They tossed back in the oven. It came back out nice and hot. The cheese, sauce and sausage were good. More than anything I liked the crust. Had that cracker like crunch but still jad some chew on the inside. Overall everything tasted pretty good. The slice was $3.50 (which is about average in price). The big beef sandwich was only about $8.60 (which was extremely cheap even with the cheese and pepper) Today I'll give them 3.5 stars mostly for "Bang for the Buck". I can't put down a lot of food for a decent price. Next time I'm going to try their hot dogs and a meatball sandwich. If those are good I might even push it to 4.

I've lived in the area for 13 years and never been. I noticed the place where my gym used to be, but never went because who wants to go eat fast food after a workout! Well people at my job talked about this place being good so I decided to try it one day for lunch. I'm out in the field so I decided to go pick up my lunch early for later. I saw pics of the beef on Yelp which looked good so I ordered a beef (no dip) and asked that the bread be put on the side so I can eat it later without getting soggy. An hour later, I'm hungry and about to eat my beef, but there's no bread!!! I had to drive 10 minutes (taking up my lunch time) to get a piece of bread. How the hell can you eat a beef without bread! How do you forget the most important part of a beef lol. So the guy handed me my 5 1/2 inch piece of bread (He should have given me the 12 inch for making me drive back) Plus they put a lot of beef on the side for me so I ended up going to the store later to get more bread to finish for later. I'm not a big fan of beefs, I much prefer Portillo's. It was just okay, the sweet peppers were also overseasoned. The fries were good. Another thing, the prices were very high for a fast food joint. I paid $8.25 for a 5 1/2 inch beef with fries (no drink)! Lastly, my job orderes pizza from here which I'll say was good. The veggie is a overwhelming, but the plain and pepperoni was fine. Not a fan of sausage, but that's my personal preference. Although, I have to say the eggplant parmesan pics looked really good (I may be back to try that), but I hope it doesn't disappoint me like the beef did! Overall, after forgetting my bread, food tasting okay - I'll stick with Portillo's for my fast food fixes. I know it's a chain, but they are consistently good!

Went with some friends who said this place was amazing... "Everything is awesome!!!" I completely disagree. I ordered a cheese dog and a cheeseburger and a fry. The bun for the burger was stale and the patty was bland, needed seasoning or something. The cheese dog and fries were average at best. One of my friends who also had never been there before ordered a beef, he remarked that Pops beef or Portillos beef are much better. Also the carry RC pop products which was a turnoff for my friend who is a pop fanatic. I don't drink pop at all, there was nothing other than water for me to drink. Most places offer tea or some fruit drink...

  • Ed F.

Better than average, but unless you're in the area, I wouldn't go out of the way. I was most surprised that they don't have meal deals - sandwich, fries, and a drink. I also saw all the reviews about their beef - decent sandwich, but for 8 bucks? My friend had 2 dogs and a drink - $11 and change.

My wife, daughter and I cane here for an early dinner while running errands. I had a a slice of pepperoni and chicken fingers. The pizza was o.k. but in the bland side and greasier than I like but the chicken fingers were good. My wife had an Italian beef in toasted french bread and really liked the flavor of the au jus and she is normally VERY disappointed with Italian beef sandwiches. We also split an order of cheese fries. They were pretty skimpy with the cheese and we had to order an extra cup of it. Finally, my daughter had a Vienna dog with cheese fries. She was satisfied but had a tummy ache later on. Overall the place isn't bad and is worth the price but I won't go there expecting fantastic food.

We discovered Paul's shortly after moving to the area and we have become regulars. The beef sandwiches are great, the large is enough to share. On garlic bread it's even more tasty. One of my favorites is the eggplant Parmesan sandwich on Fridays. We also love their pizza. The crust is tasty, light and flaky, a nice contrast to the generous amount of cheese. The baked mostacholi has plenty of cheese and all the pasta dinners come with salad and bread. We have also ordered trays for parties. The only thing I've had here that I didn't care for was an antipasto salad. But I guess this isn't the sort of place you go for salads!

Paul's ..... How do I love thee - let me count the ways..... Italian Beef on Garlic Bread Dipped with Hot Peppers.....O.M.G. Very clean, food is really really good, friendly service...the place is always jammed. I keep wanting to try other things....BUT I LOVE THE ITALIAN BEEF.

Pauls is a local legend! My brother used to stop in daily for a slice of pizza. Great place to pick up something fast but good quality. I love their pizza, Italian beef, shakes.... Those are my top two food items that I've stuck with since they are so consistently good. Both come hot and in large portions. Beef is flavorful, thin cut and juicy. Staff is efficient with orders and friendly.

Paul's is extremely cheap but don't let that be a reason not to eat there. The food is great the pizza is fresh and the hot dogs are amazing. Please stop by this place and eat. The staff is friendly and they are fast with their cooking.

Met a few buddies here for lunch as it was central for all of us. Good lunch joint with your usual type of dogs, beef, chicken, etc. I had a chicken pita and cheese fries. Chicken was well cooked and the portion of cheese fries was huge, definitely able to split with another person. Everyone was friendly and it was about the prices you would expect. (I paid $11 for sandwich, fries and drink).

This place should be called "Paul's Sandwiches" because that's what they are known for. Almost all the sandwiches are served on 11 inch french bread, most of them come with fries and are very inexpensive. My favorite is the pork tenderloin sandwich and Italian Beef on garlic bread. They also make good burgers and serve footlong hot dogs The pizza is OK, but the sandwiches are where it's at

Paul's is our go to for a take out dinner. Great sandwiches and pasta. The pizza isn't our favorite in the area, but it's still good. We just live in a good area for pizza. We like the Italian steak sandwich, and the kids pasta is huge, it's enough for me. The restaurant is a fine place to eat, too. While the place is always busy, there always seems to be a table available.

We ordered all the fixin's for Italian beef sandwiches for 80 people from Paul's for a party over the weekend. There was plenty of food and it was awesome! I wasn't the one who ordered or paid for the beef, but I was one of the hostesses of the party, and I'd say practically every adult there made it a point to tell us how delicious it was. People couldn't stop raving about it! I managed to sneak away for a few minutes to eat one and I couldn't agree more. Next time I'm in Westchester I will be stopping in to try some more of their food out!

You can't go wrong with anything you order from here. I have had the beef sandwiches, combos, maxwell polish, ribs, hotdogs, and the list goes on. Of course pizza as well. Paul is always friendly - as is everyone of the employees working there. I am normally a lunchtime customer as I work in the area, but I have been going to Paul's for 20+ years at this point. Highly recommended.

The good first... I liked the atmosphere at Paul's quite a bit. At lunchtime on a Friday, the place was packed, though the line moved quickly. The cooking crew was very efficient in getting orders out. In addition, my large order of crinkle cut fries was TRULY large. I appreciate that. however I've read the rave reviews about the Italian beef on garlic bread here as well as a discussion of how reasonable the prices are. The garlic bread did offer a bit of zing to the sandwich, but the meat itself didn't have a lot of flavor. The hot giardiniera was fine, though largely unmemorable. The 11" full sandwich at $7 is a good value, though the half sandwich at $5 is overpriced in my opinion. I like to go to neighborhood places like Paul's instead of chain restaurants because the food usually is a notch or two better. In this case, I think I'd take a Portillo's or Buona beef over one at Paul's. It probably goes without saying that Paul's beef doesn't belong in the same sentence as the great sandwiches at Al's or Johnny's. It doesn't belong in the same paragraph. It's not that I didn't like my meal at Paul's, but rather that it didn't distinguish itself enough from other options. I do think the menu is varied enough that families can find something to eat for everyone in the group--even picky kids.

My wife and I have catered from Pauls twice now and the delivery time was spot on driver was very accomodating and the food was amazing. When we initially ordered I thought that their only strong suit was beef & sausage,we ended up getting the mostaccioli,Salad and Potatoes all were delicious.the red sauce had a great flavor and being italian i'm very picky with sauces. My mother even said the red sauce was great! the portions were very generous for the price so much so that we had plenty of leftovers. everyone at our parties kept asking us were we got the food from. from now on moving forward Pauls Pizza will be the #1 place for our catering needs.

Paul's Pizza & Hot Dogs is a decent sized restaurant located off of Wolf Road in Westchester. The inside is clean with a large amount of seating available, and they seem to be a rather busy establishment. What's interesting about Paul's is that it has a surprisingly diverse menu containing a large number of different menu items. From hot dogs,to salad. to pizza, sandwitches to various types of pasta dishes Paul's is the type of eatery that tries to do a little of everything. With the word Hot Dogs in the title of their restaurant I decided to try their hot dog in the hope that it was something they did well. The hot dog I received came on a classic style poppy seed bun. Unfortunately, the bun was dry and hard, and the edges literally crumbled as I picked it up. The bun itself tasted like it had been left out and had absorbed other foods odor. This bun was definitely not satisfactory. Most Chicago style hot dogs are served with sliced tomatoes, the tomatoes served on this hot dog were just unappetizing looking and tasting chunks of tomato. The pickle on the hot dog was thin and not too sour. The sausage itself tasted fine and was well steamed with no apparent flavor loss from overcooking, and the application of the other condiments (mustard, onions and relish) were fine. I didn't detect any celery salt, and did notice that the mustard was not of the neon green variety. Overall for a place with the word "Hot Dogs" in their name, the hot dog at Paul's was surprisingly bad. The dry and hard bun was among the worst I've found anywhere. With a menu of foods as diverse as Paul's it seems likely some of their other food is good. Unfortunately, their hot dog is not.

So, you're hungry, you're in a hurry, and you only have five bucks. Well, these fast food aficionados deliver. Vienna beef hot dogs, greasy grilled burgers, fries cooked crispy, and cold diet rite, yes diet rite. Diet Rite. End of review...

Huge sandwiches! Great prices too. The owner remembers his customers. I love the double italian sausage and the pork tenderloin. I always get the cheese fries. 2 large tvs to watch as you enjoy your food. A nice family place. The last time I was there, there were little kids, young parents and seniors.

This guy has been around forever! As a kid, my family would always get his pizza, hot dogs, or gyros sandwiches on the weekends. Paul knew us and always chatted with our family when we'd stop in. He's come a long way from the hole-in-the wall space on 31st St. Having moved out of state, I obviously don't get there very often now, but a few recent stops in while visiting family proved that the their good food and polite service hasn't changed a bit over the years. The gyros was delicious and hearty, and their Chicago-style hot dog was made perfectly. Good fries, and they have Green River on the drink fountain! Nice throwback. The guy next to me had an Italian Beef/Sausage combo that looked delicious as well. Always busy with what seems like regulars, and rightfully so. He's earned a good reputation in town and the business of many. Looks like they have music concerts outside on occasion as well. Miss this place and need to make it a point to visit more often when I come to town.

I moved from LaGrange Pk. to Joliet 5 yrs. ago and have yet to find a place that makes better baked mostaccioli than Paul's. On Wed. I was returning from downtown Chicago and decided to detour from the Eisenhower and go to Paul's for a "fix"! I was greeted by Paul who made it a point to shake my hand and say that he was glad to see me again after 5 yrs. he still treated me like a long lost friend. I ordered a take out of my favorite and let me tell you it DIDN'T disappoint me at all! I just wish that I had also ordered a second one to freeze for later. The sauce is just spicy enough to satisfy me and the cheese so thick that I had to cut it with a knife. I have never been unhappy with anything I have ordered at Paul's and regularly ordered the Italian Beef when I had parties. After all these years they are still going strong with not only Paul but his sons in attendance too! I am going to have to make a trip now and then just to satisfy my cravings. Thanks Paul....you certainly don't disappoint. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the prices are so reasonable. My order was $7.25 for a HUGE container with a fresh side salad. I honestly have made 3 meals out of it. I love this place and miss not being able to frequent more often.

Don't listen to any of these 3 or even 4 star reviews, I live in Chicago but am originally from LaGrange Park and no where have I ever tasted the sweet sweet goodness of food until I step back into Paul's!! Not only is the food amazing (pizza, chicken tenders, fries, beef, the list goes on) but Paul himself is the nicest man you'll ever meet! He is genuinely happy to see each and every person walk into the door and it really makes the food and experience that much better! Enjoy yourself... You won't taste food like this again :)

Paul's is a reliable, local favorite. Their pizza is hands down the best thin crust around. Great off-the-spit gyros, Italian beef, salads and pastas. Family run, and they always treat us well. Worth going back for lunch, dinner or in between.

Since moving to La Grange, I have ordered pizza from here on a few occasions and I definitely enjoyed it. Unfortunately I have never been there for a sit down meal, but as soon as I have some time to, I do plan on having a meal there. The staff are courteous on the phone and the delivery is always prompt and the food is still hot and has always tasted amazing. Best part is, they have a variety of items on their menu to choose from and I am still trying to get through it, none the less, I am a definite fan of this place.

Hands down the best beef out there. I try and go there every week or every other week. The breaded steak is awsome too. Try the meatball sandwich too, they are the size of baseballs. If u want a good side dish get the pizza bread you will not be disapointed. Pauls pizza is the best fast food around

Definitely get the most bang for your buck here! I have to share my order or eat it for two days! Service is good, food is tasty. I appreciate going somewhere that gives back to their local community, and looking at all the pictures and such on the walls you can see that Paul's understands this importance too!

Best beef in the Chicagoland area!! I have tried beef at pretty much every "gotta try" joint (Portillo's, Buona, Johnny's Mr. Beef, Al's) , but I still cannot find an better Italian beef than Paul's. The beef is homemade, sliced a little thicker than most places (i know that some of you may not like this, but I am all for a thicker cut of italian beef), very flavorful and well spiced. Prices are great, the Portions are generous and did I already mention that they are not skimpy on the meat, lol Next time you are in the mood for a great Italian beef, take a drive to Paul's. It will be worth it!!

Came here for my third time for lunch. My yelp app told me I was the duke today after checking in. I guess I will write a review! So far I have eaten the beef sandwhich, polish sausage, and double burger here. Don't forget the cheese fries. All excellent! My co-workers have learned to order the small fries because the regular comes with so much! RC Cola at the fountain machine is a plus. I can say this is my fav. lunch place after Johnny's Italian Beef. There is more seating here and more choices to choose from for grub. With that comes a busier lunch spot. There is always a line at lunch time, but it moves quickly. (Not sure if Paul is the one taking orders at lunch time?) Side note: Some of the customers coming in look like they might have been in the movie Good Fellas. I have not tried the pizza, but I can see its the size of my head if I go the single slice route. I also haven't tried the hot dogs. These challenges will be completed soon!

After living in the hood for 6 years now and shopping at the Dominicks in the same strip mall, i finally made the trek over here to eat. i wish i had made the effort earlier. great hours, great selection and a comfortable place to eat. you walk up to the counter and place your order and wait for your number to be called. i like how they have a flat screen to watch tv while you eat, so much like home!! :) this place has everything!! hot dogs, gyros, pizza puffs, pasta, pizza, italian beef, salads, ribs (not so great though per my hubbie), and much much more. they even have soft serve ice cream. great family place. i will definitely try to make it here more often.

Paul's was recommended by a co-worker. I was anxious to try the garlic beef. We got half garlic beef, regular beef dipped w/hot peppers, & 10' pizza. The beef was bland & the pizza was really salty. However, the service was great. The young lady who took our order was very nice & the staff was friendly. I am disappointed that we did not like the food b/c we would have enjoyed going back to this restaurant.

I live about a mile away and I still don't go to this sub-par overly crowded restaurant. They have a decently diverse menu, most of which is only average. The prices are good but you get what you pay for, bland tasting food. They don't offer any juice, smoothies, beer, wine, or anything other than fountain drinks. The layout of the restaurant can leave even the most patient person grinding their teeth before they get their beverage and sit down. If you are wondering why this restaurant is so busy, it is because the majority of the people coming in the to eat know the owner personally and receive free food from him all the time. If you are a cop you will eat for free.

Let me preface this review by saying that my Ma brought me Paul's Italian Sausage all the way from Chicago to Texas for me to try. So, this review is strictly on the Italian Sausage. The one thing that I both love and hate about Texas is sausage. We have, hands down, the most out of this world beef sausage, pork sausage, and venison sausage with and without jalapenos. However, this outstanding sausage is always enhanced by the wonderful wood that we have down here to smoke said sausage. Having relocated from Chicago 12 years ago, I have not been able to find great Italian Sausage. The worst part about the Paul's Italian Sausage that my Ma brought my wife and I for her visit this weekend is that there just wasn't enough of it. Paul's sausage is certainly the best that I have ever had. What I find difficult to swallow about most Italian sausage is that there usually isn't enough fennel flavor. However, the meat to fat to seasoning ratio was spot on accurate and the flavors melted together as if they were a culinary concerto! This will go down as a top piece of culinary history for me and Ma now knows the price of admission to see her granddaughter!!! =)

Wish I could do 3.5 stars, but I'll just keep it A-OK for the reviews sake. Paul's is a cool little place over in Westchester in a strip mall with Dominik's, Cardinal fitness, and a few other shops. First time I went in I had the Italian sausage. Man, super good sandwich. The thing was as long as your forearm. Excellent flavor and not dry like some places. A definite must have. Went back a second time and had the meatball sub. Another really good sandwich. It's a good place to grab a quick bite. Sure there are better places for food, but Paul's does it well. Diverse menu with lots to choose from. You can dine-in or take out. Oh, and it won't break the bank either. I'll be back.

Alright if it's a last minute choice but not my go-to place. The beef is flavorless but abundant. Why can't it be both? The service is always kinda weird. It's like they are hanging out waiting for someone else to show up before they start moving fast. Twice I have had to ask someone to get my ice cream after standing around waiting for a few minutes. Apparently it prints on another order machine and no one checks it. Plus it's like $2 for some crappy soft serve. The more I write the more I think I'm done with this place.

I'm a surprised at the number of 4 and 5 star ratings for Paul's. Until I saw the pictures I wasn't sure I was thinking about the right place. The food is good but frankly very average and not the same as I'd feed my own family at home. Not a whiff of healthy food to be seen (no wheat bread options), staples like Italian Beef and Buffalo Wings are sub-par to other venues. Beverage options are limited to the soft drink variety (no juice for the kids??) And it would be really nice to see at least beer and wine as options. Beyond that, the logistical layout of the place is a nightmare on a busy day. Everything seems to feed right in to the area where the soft drinks are and there's just not enough real estate there for people to get what they need (returns for napkins, straws, condiments, etc.) I think this place is busy because of it's location and lack of any real competitors around it. As a 10 year resident, I was hoping for more out of local establishments.

Excellent beef, went here twice based on reviews. Recently moved close and I agree that Paul's is better than Portillo's! Next up, more items on the menu to try.

    (4)
  • SuburbanMom S.

Briefly: Italian beef - too salty! and the texture is weird, kinda rubbery. I'll stick with Buona or Portillo's when out in this area again. Hot dog - my daughter liked it, I did not try it Green River - yay!! Fries - good and crispy crinkle cut Service - fine, not rude, not friendly, just ok Atmosphere - ok, but a crowd of unwashed guys at the front table made the place feel kind of uncomfortable, felt like they stared. Plus, as you walk in and walk out, they were stinky! I feel bad for the owner, how do you throw out regulars or tell them they smell? Will I go again? I didn't think so but maybe I will after reading the other reviews. Try something different perhaps.

Been coming to Pauls (old and newer location) since I was kid. Best price for a beef in town. Although compared to Buono, Novi's or Portillos I think Paul's has lost some of it's edge taste wise. But hey a foot long beef for around $6.00? You can't go wrong.

  • Ken J.

I go here for the tremendous beef sandwiches. They are large and in charge. You can also buy Paul's branded hot giardinera there. Never had anything else because the beef is just too good to pass up. This is located in a small shopping center on 31st street. You know it's a good place when they're lined up 15 deep at the order window for lunch.

  • Jen M.

While Paul's is always a cheap meal, the food is hit or miss for me. Essentially I have found their sandwiches and sides are tasty, but the pasta dishes are somewhat plain. The two misses for me were the lasagna and the gnocchi. Again, both servings were cheap and large, just little flavor. I do, however, love their Italian beef, meatball sub, eggplant parmesan sandwich, and fries!

    (4)
  • Samir R.

Paul's is awesome. Haven't even tried the pizza yet, had the italian beef, breaded steak, and the eggplant parm sandwiches. First, the portion is HUGE. can't believe just how big the sandwiches are. Everything was really good, and you know why there is a line when you walk in the place during lunch. Add in that RC Cola, and you have a winner.

  • Nancy M.

Paul's is such a nice place to get a gyro! What a mom and pop gem. Love supporting the owners because you can tell they really care about their business! Food is always great- simple and worth your dollar. Simple yet very tasty. Thanks for all the great meals, Paul's!

Had the breaded steak. It wasnt as good as Ricobene's but it was good.

Great food, friendly staff, easy parking, what's not to love? Oh, and THEY HAVE RC!!!

Yummy Italian/American fast food. I like this place. I'm supporting a local and the portions are man sized and tasty. It is always crowded. I really like their spaghetti bowl with garlic bread for $6.00. It is humongous!!! I ate the whole thing in one sitting--but regretted it afterwards. It was so much!! Where else can you fill the stomach of Scott the Man-Cave with great tasting spaghetti for $6.00? I ate a spaghetti lunch at "Leona's" and as good as it was --it really was, it was $18.00. Oops. I got in trouble with my wife and had to be grounded to my man cave. Oh well. Additionally, this place dispenses RC Cola. What does that mean? If I have to tell you it's no big thing to you. Hey, don't want to burn a hole in your pocket but at least treat yourself to some good eats. I recommend Paul's Pizza and Hot Dogs in Westchester, IL. Why only 4 stars? The inside seating does not rate a star. It's clean and ok, but that's what it is...ok. Ok? Now get on your jeans and a knock around shirt and treat yourself at Paul's.

We ordered pizza and beef sandwiches from here and had them delivered to Casa De Montecristo in Countryside. I cannot speak highly enough of the food. The Italian beef on garlic should not be missed. The pizza had a sharpness to the cheese or a tangy taste to the sauce that resulted in terrific flavor. This will be my go to place while at Montecristo in the future.

Holy tostadas!!!! this place is great!!! My co-rowrker the legendary Johnie crotch went and picjked up a couple of breaded steak sanwiches. FABULOUS! THink 12 inches of breaded steak, marinara sauce, girdenara!!!! heaven baby! heaven!!! $5.00 footlong.....................................this is a real $5.00 footlong! Shake & bake seal of approval.!

Eggplant is excellent! Italian beef is tasty. Foot long hot dogs on special on Saturdays! Prices are good for the portion sizes. This place has a steady crowd so you know the food tastes great.

Love the classic dog house. I have tried many items from the menu and have not been dissapointed. Try the italian beef/sausage combo on garlic bread. Ribeye steak sandwhiches a great. It is a very clean place and Paul is very nice.

Ace's baby, This is my new fav slice joint. I found it on accident. They were open at 10 in the morning with the pie already made. Woo Hoo. It's not huge, but it's big enough. (I've heard that before) The crust was not to thick, but still crunchy. It had a lot of sauce the way I like it and it was just a little spicy. Big chunks of sausage and lots of cheese. You could tell right away that this was made in house. And the price was right on the money at 3 bucks.

Prices and portions are really great but the fries are really bad. What's better with a burger or a dog than great fries. Keep shopping for alternatives.

  • Mark H.

You will not find a better Italian beef or Italian sausage anywhere in Chicago. You also won't find a better value. The sandwiches are HUGE -- big enough to feed two really hungry guys!! The restaurant is clean, the people are nice, the service is fast, the portions are humongous, and the food quality is excellent!

  • Beer H.

This is the best italian beef-hot dog place in the area. I have been going to Paul's for years. The prices are very low for the amount of food you get. I usually go for the Italian beef. Some times I mix it up and go for the BBQ beef sandwich. AWESOME!!!! You can even step it up opting for the garlic bread instead of the regular bread on your sandwich.....nice touch Paul....nice! Also, they have Green River on the fountain, and that is getting harder and harder to find these days. The only reason I can't give Paul's five stars is no fresh cut fries. I am a huge fan of the fresh cut!!! They have the crinkle cut fries. The are similar to the ones you get at White Castles. I'm just not a fan of this style. At lunch time this place is busy! They have a large dining area, but at lunch you may not get a seat. I love ya Paul!!!!

    (4)
  • Eddie H.

The italian beef is the best here!!! Pizza is also good

I'm amazed that no one else has commented on the amazing eggplant parm that is served on Fridays. Only $4.50 and easily the best that I've ever eaten.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST ITALIAN BEEF IN CHICAGO! This is one of those reviews that part of me hates to write because I don't want people from all over going here....but Paul's is too good not to share. I've been going there for years and just love it. It is consistently fantastic. I love it.

    (5)
  • Bill F.

OK, my four stars is based on one experience, but I'll certainly go back for a better sample size. A neighbor had alerted me to their Italian Beef pizza. Was having a party, and thought Italian Beef Pizza would be a good addition. But I don't live close enough to Paul's for it to be a regular pizza place for us (it's about 20-30 minutes away). Well, the cook made the pizzas, par-baked them for me, and put them in the cooler. Fifteen minutes in my oven and...oh my. It's a load of pizza, for sure. My wife, who doesn't eat beef, said it was one of the most delicious things she's ever tried.

    (4)
  • Philip D.

GARLIC BEEF! Nobody is talking about the garlic beef. OMG. It's so darned good !!! Anywhere else I order my beef sandwiches wet but I don't here because then I'd lose some of the dripping great flavor of the garlic butter. Unfortunately I can't comment on the other food (except for the fries; they're fine). One day I might get a chance to try some of the things others are commenting on here but so far all I ever order is the beef. If you love garlic you've got to try this sandwich. WOW...

  • Michelle B.

Been coming here since I was 4. The food is always hot out of the oven. The beef is always juicy and tasted like it just came out of the oven and off the slicer. The pizza, well it depends on who works that day. Everythng else is great!!! Stopped in the other day and got a beef and mozzerella sticks for waaaay less than anyhting at portillos or bueno beef. And it's way tastier at pauls!

    (4)
  • Andrew G.

This place is great for what it is. Affordable, fast, delicious food. The gyros are fantastic - best I've had anywhere, even dedicated gyro joints. Stay away from the pizza, it's pretty gross. I also don't like the fries much. I know I'll be coming back again and again to get the gyros!

This place has the best beef sandwich around.Ive been going to pauls for over 20 years.Paul is a great guy and makes you feel good just to be there. THANKS PAUL!

  • Dave B.

Been going to Pauls since I was kid when they were just east of their current location. Still have great specials and great service. But have to say since they moved there been some issues. Firstly it is more crowded at the new location so if your going to Pauls for lunch be prepared to wait in line. Secondly their Italian Beef which is still the best bang for the buck in Chicago has really suffered. Don't know if "Mayor" Paul switched suppliers, recipes or what but it really is bland now. Hate to say it but Bouno, Portillos and even Carms have surpased it. But everything else like the Hot Dogs, Burgers and Po Boy are still great.

  • Brian S.

This place has the best Italian Beef sandwiches I have found in the Chicago area in my opinion. I go and get beef sandwiches for myself, friends and family almost once a week. I got pizza delivery from there when I was in high school, before they moved to their new location and rediscovered them a few years ago and have become a regular customer.

  • Johnny T.

Just went there for the first time and was very impressed. They sell a foot long beef for only $4.00 and .20 more if you want it with garlic bread. The breading on their onion rings were great as well! Skip their pizzas altogether!!! I've tried them a few times and always had no flavor. They use frozen Barilla brand pastas just in case anyone wanted to know.

    (4)
  • Traveling J.

Used to be very good, but not anymore. The beef it was so well known for has lost all its flavor! The menu is getting a little too big. Pizza has never been very good, and hasn't changed. The best thing I can say about this place is the Friday Pepper & Egg!

We visited this place as out of towners who were looking for something authentically Chicago. This fit the bill. The guy who took our order (I believe he was the famous Paul!) was very nice and even gave us free drinks with our order (apparently because he knew we were from out of town). The pizza was very tasty. I definitely recommend this as a casual, friendly eating experience. I think this would be a good place to go with kids (what kid doesn't enjoy pizza?). If we are in the area again, we'll be back!

THE GOOD: Pretty much everything in this place that requires a bun (as small as a hot dog bun or a 12" sandwich) is incredible and worth every penny since it's so cheap too. As the enthusiastic fellow below me stated, the breaded steak is probably the best deal. The beef and cheese and the combo are pretty good too. Usually when a place is cheap, they lack flavor in their meats or they short change customers on meat and add fillers. Not this place. Everything has pretty heavy portions and have distinct, yet delicious flavors. They even have a double sausage footlong for pretty cheap too. If I was 20lbs lighter and didn't have a fear of meat products longer than 10 inches, I would probably get it every day. They have a vast menu that is pretty diverse. They even have soft serve ice cream. Why even bother going anywhere else in Westchester? THE BAD: They give a good helping of pasta, too bad it just isn't that good. The pasta tends to be too watery. Add that to sauce that isn't very thick to begin with and you have a dish where bread is needed to soak up all that sauce. They do have variety in their pastas though like spinich ravioli, mostaciolli, lasagna, etc, but the pasta overall isn't very good. I will say this, good stuff on making their own sauce. THE UGLY: Anything veggie. My friend got a greek salad from the place when we ate there 1 day. I asked her how it was and she replied with a frown and said, "It sucked." I checked it out and saw that it did pretty much suck. I try everything and from the looks of what was given, I didn't even want to raise my fork to get a taste. Some days later, I took a friend there and he got the veggie sub. I asked him how it was and he said it sucked too. So according to my research (if anyone else got that Magic School Bus reference *clap clap*), don't get anything here that doesn't have meat in or on it unless it's a cheese pizza or ice cream. Actually I should of asked my friends why the heck they got something veggie from this place to begin with? Who the hell does that? When the sign says "Paul's Pizza and Hot Dogs" why do you get the exact opposite? The people who got the veggie dishes aren't vegans or vegetarians or anything. Ok well time to get off my soapbox and end this review. Paul's is pretty legit and go there if you got a taste for the greasy spoon type of foods or even some pasta or subs. Just don't get anything veggie.

We left Westchester several years ago and while we're definitely loving the wide-open spaces of Kane County, I must say that the Fox Valley doesn't have anything that comes close to the delectable fare found at Paul's. Absolutely top-notch food and even better service!!

  • Melissa H.

I work in Westchester, so my bf and our co worker go to Pauls usually close to once a week. The crowds can be pretty big on lunch, so you have to pick your time and just hope for the best. The line does move fast though. One of the great parts of going to Paul's is that Paul, the actual Mayor of Westchester, is the person who greats you and takes your order. Hes a super nice guy, who always acts like he knows you and is happy to see you again when you order. The beef sandwhiches are really good. (BEWARE most of Paul's sandwhiches are 12inchers, some you can order in half sizes some you cant. Who would have thought, like $4 for a 12 inch beef sandwhich!) Ive also had yummy meatball, chicken parm, veal parm, and steak sandwhiches. They have pretty good specials every day of the week. Surprisingly, try the pasta. You wouldnt think it would be good in a place that specializes in pizza's , and sandwhiches, but its really good and the portions are huge. Burgers are quite good, so is the simplicity of getting "Pizza Bread" which for like $2.50 you can get a 12 inch French bread roll opened up, and smothered in sauce, cheese and oregano. Over all, for a greesy spoon, with great sandwhiches and pretty good pasta for decent prices, give Paul's a shot if your in the neighborhood.

  • Lisa H.

Love Pauls! It's the only non-chain fast food in the area. It has all the usual burger, beef, hot dogs, and pizza. Even when it's super busy the line moves fast and you can be out quick. We order food from here for work all the time.

I miss this place. I use to go here at least once a month. Paul and his food rocks.

The best comfort food you can find in Westchester. Mostly fresh ingredients. Killer subs, excellent pizza, great pastas, good sandwiches. Check them out!

  • Derek M.

Everything about this place is great. Great grilled chicken, great Italian sausage and beef, just all great. The only thing I do not like is the BBQ sauce, but the BBQ beef sandwiches are still great. They are always busy but quick.

  • Ryan B.

Whole lotta good food at a great price. The service was quick. The portions were large. The food was really good. I have been there a few times now since I discovered this place a couple weeks ago. Every time I am in the area around lunchtime to me there aren't any other options.

  • Jackie W.

Paul's is awesome! I remember when they had a smaller shop down the street from their current place and the line would wrap around the block. GREAT prices for the amount of food you get - I always get the beef that's a foot long for $4! Their pizza is pretty good too. While their delivery area is not too large, it's worth it going in to pick up your order because Paul is usually there shooting the breeze with all his customers. You don't find places like this anymore!

  • Breeze Y.

I had a craving for pizza, French fries and gyros so I visited Paul's since it was close and a friend is always raving about it. I ordered the gyros special everything with extra sauce, well this happened to be the day that they didn't have any tomatoes. WT?. I ordered the pizza got it home it was a tiny piece of idk what. I was pissed but too mad to go back any whoo the gyros and fries were really good and fresh so I can say I will go again but I will make sure I check my food before I leave.

    (4)
  • Will S.

A friend raved about this place we tried it. I was a little disappointed because it was a hot day, and about as hot inside. I realize that the gyros machines and french fryers do consume a lot of energy, but they could have kicked the A/C up a notch or two. The prices are fair; fair because they are average for Cook County, but nothing economical or exorbitant. You walk up to a counter, state your desired foods, and pay the clerk. Then you walked around the counter to the west side, and wait for your food either until your number is called, or simply wait there. The good food is served right directly on the serving tray over a thin piece of wax paper. No plate, or wrapping unless you are taking it "to go." I was impressed how hot the Italian beef really was, but as another reviewer stated, somewhat tasteless. Not objectionable, but unfortunately, not memorable either. Plenty of piping-hot french fries; I dipped mine in red sauce which was very tasty. I would say that I enjoyed the fries and red sauce more than the Italian beef sandwich. Either way, I'm glad I went, might stop in there again, but definitely won't go out of my way to eat here again. I told my friend about it, and he thought I was insane, but at least I tried it.

The only place I think of in the Western Suburbs for Gyro's, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Italian Beefs. Gyro's are top dog here- I'd say they are better here than most Greek restaurants. Good ole american food without the fastfood feel. Paul's always there too!!

    (4)
  • Joshua A.

They have beefs the size of my forearm, quick service, and a clean atmosphere

    (5)
  • Pat H.

A very wide assortment of Italian foods - especially those that require bread or a bun. Very large portions and very generous with the meat -- I cannot imagine ordering a full portion (as opposed to the optional half portion). Very reasonable pricing and the food is excellent. The Italian Beef is wonderful. The food is 4 stars, but because of the reasonable pricing and the great selection, I bumped it up to a 5 stars.

    (5)
  • Bill F.

Pretty much what a lot here have said...huge beef sandwiches and great service. As others have said, though, the beef is kind of bland. I prefer the taste of Carmes or Johnnies Beef, but the others don't compare on bang for your buck. The owner, Paul, is super and runs the Monday evening cruise nights, lot of fun. My daughter loves the meatball sandwich, my wife always gets the burgers. Oh yeah, they've got Green River soda!

    (4)
  • John E.

Great menu selection with a lot of choices. The food is decent but the service is slower than most places, I've waited 7-10 minutes for a slice of pizza most times. Speaking of which, you would think a place with pizza in the name would make it better. It's not horrible but it's definitely not great and if you're looking for a good slice Rocky's across town in a much better bet, as is Bill's Place in Lagrange Park. The prices are reasonable but there really isn't anything here on the menu that stands out as a reason you HAVE to go there. You can get most things they serve or comparable quality at a variety of other places in the area. Not bad, but not great.

    (3)
  • Chris B.

Good food, great value. The italian beef is huge, basically you get 2 beefs for around $5. The hot dogs and pizza are good too. They have daily specials. The place is usually really busy. The staff is always friendly. I know some folks who have eaten lunch there just about everyday for years. I don't recommend that, it can't be healthy. Definitly eat there once in awhile though.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
