Golosinas El Canto

5 stars all because of the amazing Mexican food!!!!! The place is a small locale in Waukegan that is pretty rundown so you should probably order To-go. The food is authentic and they have delicious desserts!!! My favorite foods are the 'huarache de carne asada or salsa verde de puerco' (steak or green salsa pork on dough) yum!!!

yum dont you love the smell of a bakery?! I love pastry and Waukegan IL offers LOTS of bakeries. I enjoy this one instantly because of their less frequent use of eggs, I hate smelling egg in pastry! I got alittle too many and by day 4, they were still very soft! (in air tight container). They don't however carry churros, enredos (the rectangle flaky ones), semitas de trigo. 5 pastries cost me 4.50$

This Starbucks has by far the best staff! I've gotten my drink on them a few times before and they're always so upbeat and friendly. Great way to start my day!
Bringing in the first snow with my favorite latte, cinnamon dolce. I think this might be the best one I've had. I also love the sausage cheddar breakfast sandwich.
I feel quite lucky to work right near this location because of its convenient drive-thru, especially since the nearest location to my home (Lincoln Ave., Chgo) is also a drive-thru. These options just lead to an addiction in the making (or already made). Since I frequent the drive-thru more often than enter the store and only do so in the mornings, I will be a little biased towards the morning service. The staff is extremely nice - they do a great job at getting us busy corporate folk our orders promptly and with a smile, literally. A special shout to barista Jordan who's among the best and my personal favorite.

Big Ed’s BBQ

4030 Northpoint Blvd
Waukegan, 60085
Reviews:
Big Ed has got it going on. I had the Baby Back ribs there is sauce on each table but not really needed. I also had the jacked up Mac & Cheese and the baked beans and a corn muffin. Also got the chocolate cake to go. Big Ed brought me out a slice of his Key Lime pie oh man was I full. I really wished I had drove over from the hotel. The place is very nice no table service but that's OK it is BBQ relax people. They have a full bar and the place is very clean and all the employees make you feel very welcome. It was the best meal I have had is the three weeks I have been in the area.
The food was excellent. Located in the old Pizza Hut building on the outskrts of the old lakehurst mall, This place is the real deal. The ribs were to die for. An excellent bark, not slathered in BBQ sauce,(provided though if that's what you want) the meat was fabulous. Also enjoyed the corn muffins. Would love to have had hush puppies available, but the muffins were excellent as well. Go and enjoy!
Tried the newest Big Ed's today and we were blown away! This place is awesome. The food is the best Barbecue around, and the restaurant has such a cool setup with plenty of seating and a bar to order drinks. Big Ed you did it again!! We'll be back for more

When Gurnee Donuts was closed, I was still determined to find local donuts. It was easy to find and, humorously, right next next to a Dunkin' Donuts. The inside of the store was as old and sad looking in appearance as the donuts were delicious. Everything was affordable and the service was really fast. Between here and Gurnee Donuts it's a toss up. Each has its perks but both are equally as tasty.
Just ordered a dozen donuts and they were all amazing! Fresh, soft, the icing was delicious, especially the maple. It was insanely cheap too - $8.50 or something for a dozen. I will definitely be coming back.
We went to the bakery today and am not sure if we will eat what we bought. As soon as we entered, there was a strong mildew smell. The place is beyond a dump. Hard to belive the health department does not take action. The food may be good but the thought of what the kitchen may look like will probably turn people off.

In more ways than one did I need to digest a couple of days before writing my review :-) Never has there been such a need for a classic Pros vs. Cons review: Cons: I walked in and it did not smell very good. A cross between a sewer/water issue and a musty beer scent. I love dive bars and no frills burger joints just as much as the next guy. However, if Bar Rescue invaded this place last Thursday with me, Mr. Taffer would more than likely found something related to the above mentioned unpleasant scent. My buddy and I asked about the monster burgers, ranging from 1/4 all the way up to 4-1lb burgers our server informed us that they only had 2 pounds of burgers and that we could each only order a 1 pound burger....So let me get this straight. You're offering up to 4 pounds on one burger, and yet you only had 2 pounds left in the kitchen? Between the foul scent and a nearly meatless kitchen, I was quite concerned....But things were about to take a turn for the better! Pros: Great beer selection, particularly the bottles. Magic Hat and plenty of Lauganitas choices. Solid list of good beers in that cooler so props to whomever is doing the purchasing of cerveza. The burgers were actually REALLY GOOD!! And man, I'm pretty sure my burger was a pound even after it was cooked down!!! So the thing had to have been a pound and a quarter to start. My giant appetite was able to finish the burger and mostly all the fries, and was just enough, as mentioned by our server so I'm actually glad I did attempt the two bagger. Plenty of flatscreen TV's and the space is nice and open.
If you're looking for quantity and huge value then this is the place. Located at the far Northeast end of town this joint servers up some monster burgers and BLT's. You pick out the size and they grill it up right behind the bar. A four pound burger would be four 1 pound patties on a bun, a triple would be 3 patties...you get the idea right? Same with the BLT's which I'll get on my next visit since it's one of my most favorite sandwiches ever! Tell them how many slices of bacon you want on the sammie and you got it. I think there's one on the menu with 24 slices! More to come
Great selection of micro breweries and great burgers. Good place to watch a game and meet up with friends. They are also building a horse shoe game (i think) in back - nice outside back area...
