This was our last stop on the way home. The waitress greeted us, with menu in hand and drink special. Half the party decided on the 6 beers for $15. We also ordered a margarita and glass of white zin. We informed the waitress that we just wanted to have drinks and watch the basketball games. Fine, she would check on us from time to time. We decided that we need some food. We ordered wings, smothered buffalo chips and the new pretzels stiks. Much to our delight the pretzels stiks were from Gus's Pretzels. The wings had just the right amount of seasoning and spice, to be tasteful but not over powering. Finally, the smothered buffalo chips. I thought the buffalo was a little strong, but the rest of the party enjoyed them. This is a fun place. The restrooms were clean, except they had an extremely loud hand dryer.

I was craving from French Toast sticks and Burger King has THE best ones. You can order 3 sticks or 5 sticks. I opted for the 3 sticks, which surprisingly we only a dollar, what...... I also love Burger Kings Iced Coffee, it is wonderful when you want coffee but it is too hot outside to drink it. When the server told me my total was $2.86 I could not believe my ears. I also asked for a glass of water, which I was told was no problem. The guy at the window was friendly and helpful. He warned me that my sticks were just out of the fryer and that they would be extremely hot, so proceed with caution. What a great way to start my day.

Ahne’s Bakery

The bakery crawl continues.... Today we are tasting the old fashioned peanut coffee cake at Ahne's Bakery. Ahne's Bakery has been around as long as I can remember. This was a place that I went to with my grandparents. It is the only bakery remaining in Randolph and Monroe Counties. If you ask anyone what is their favorite from Ahne's they will all say the coffee cake. I even called ahead and preordered just to make sure my coworkers would get a taste. What is sooo special about this coffeecake, well it is not dry like most coffeecakes. The cake is balanced with the peanut butter icing and mixture of chopped nuts. The shelves are stocked with donuts, angel food cakes, mini coffee cakes, dozen and dozen of cookies and pastries galore. They are closed on Monday, lucky they have started delivering to the local grocery and convenience stores, but I always like to stop at the bakery, the smells remind me of my grandparents..
I'm an out-of-towner who married a gal from the area. Long story short, this is the best fried chicken I've had in my life. It is fresh, juicy, and appropriately seasoned (I usually add hot sauce). Their baked goods are also special and delicious. I stop by Waterloo once a year, and this is one of the few places I make sure to always go back to.
I don't even know where to start with this place. I've been here many times, but only had the privelege to tried it once. Why? Because this is a family owned and they opened and closed their door whenever they feel like it. If you're lucky enough to find them opened, their donuts don't last long.

Casa Romero Mexican Resturant

Reviews:
This is my family's premier go-to place for Mexican food in Waterloo. Jose is always a joy to see and I always look forward to him greeting us as his "friends". Try their steak tacos on corn tortillas. They are completely addicting and their margaritas are top notch.
This restaurant has become a destination. My wife and I are here at least once a week and have never had a bad meal. The service is excellent, but expect to wait if you arrive during prime dinner time. The salsa and chips are top notch and you can tell they are fresh made. The menu is large and there it's a section with house specialities that must be tried. Sure, they have the traditional tacos, burritos and enchiladas but the Pollo Jalisco is phenomenal...it's a chicken breast that has been marinated in a sauce made specifically for this dish, then breaded and served covered in Chihuahua cheese and Pico de Gallo. Yum! I have told all of my friends and co workers about this restaurant and cannot recommend it highly enough!
The food is fantastic; much better than they typical small-town Mex you might expect. Enchilada combination was especially nice. Margaritas are big and tasty but not strong. Service is pitiful, though. Not enough waiters, and the ones working were disinterested. We asked all three working for the Wi-fi password, each of them said they would find out, but no one ever did. Wi-fi can make or break the whole dining experience when you have a 2-yr-old.

Bean Tree Cafe

Reviews:
This place is the perfect addition to the downtown Waterloo district. I have never been disappointed by the food , drinks, or service. Everything has always been above par. Love this place.
I have dined here often and the food and service at this little gem of an establishment are consistently great!
My girlfriend and I were looking for somewhere to have breakfast this morning and she mentioned that a new cafe had been opened in downtown Waterloo. I was game but she said she had driven past it before and didn't stop in because it looked like it only served coffee, muffins and bagels. This was so not the case! We were pleasantly surprised at what this little oasis in the middle of a cow town had to offer. As we entered I noticed it was well lit and obviously a clean eatery. The decor and colors were comparable to a chain coffee house such as STL Bread Co or Starbucks. It was very small and very crowded, so I suggest getting there early, expect a short wait, or be prepared to take it to go. In all fairness it could have just been the time of day we went and the fact it was a Saturday. I will definitely be revisiting the Bean Tree Cafe and will report if the crowd is a fading trend or if this is just the place to be on Saturday morning in Waterloo IL. There are two areas to sit. One in a traditional cafe setting and the other with a traditional sit down restaurant. The theme remains the same no matter which side you sit. We were lucky and found the only open table was a two seat table with a window view. The menu was simple and completely encompassed on a two sided laminated page. It contained all of your expected classics but also included a few unexpected twists like the Portabella Omelet and Fruit and Maple French Toast. YUM! You can check out their full menu here beantreecafe.net . My Girlfriend who will so predictably order biscuits and gravy opted for the Portabella Mushroom Omelet, while I stuck with a more common selection of eggs over easy and hash browns. Real hash browns! I hate the silly excuse of hash browns most places give you called American Fries. The French had them right the first time and there is no reason to reinvent the wheel. The food was cooked to perfection and being a coffee freak, I have to comment that I will only be buying my morning Joe from Bean Tree Cafe. I am pleasantly pleased with my experience at the Bean Tree Cafe. Two complete meals and drinks for under 20 bucks. You just can't beat that. I think we will have a long history together. I can't wait for lunch now. Highly recommend.

I want to start this review by saying I really enjoy the food at gallagher's. I do wish they would change things up a bit it can get boring the same menue. This review is about the lunch I had today sadly not the best I have been served here. I ordered the tuna wrap, hard to find the tuna in it mostly lettuce and they forgot the avocado and bbq chips just a tad too bbqed! I will go back for sure and I encourage you to go too just keep a eye out at lunch!
Worth the drive! This is a three level old home with an elevator. The selection of craft beers was extensive and included a little bit of everything. We had the fried chicken and pork chops, both were excellent. Service was great as well. We will be back!
Happened upon this place last week with some friends from Waterloo...I had the Popeye burger...and I'm usually not a burger kind a gal..but this was to die for. The burger was awesome and the spinach on WOW. Service was great...So we decided to drive from STL..15-.20 min drive from Sunset Hills for their Tues night steak special.(20 bucksfor salad, steak and a side) It was AWESOME. I had the tenderloin and family had the rib eye. Cooked to perfection, I had the spinach (again) and it was great and the rest had the baked potatoe that was the size of Idaho. Also..the salad was great. Once again, good attentive service Great atmosphere...kind of fun bar downstairs and then an elevator to the 2nd floor..kind of like Citzen Kanes but with an elevator and not so pricey or dressy...plus you can get bar food if you want. I would recommend anyone from STL taking the time to drive over..can't wait to try the fried chicken. We usually drive 15-20 minutes to go to the hill... If you live nearby...no brainer. Get to Gallagher's!

Confetti cake blizzard What! This is a newly built Dairy Queen. Who doesn't like a little ice cream on a hot day. I noticed the Confetti cake blizzard on the menu. I asked the guy behind the menu board. He highly recommended it and added that I should add a chocolate dip to the waffle cone. The sad part was their debit machine was broken and you could only use cash. This does happen often at this place.
