Stick to Italian. Don't get steak.

Really enjoyed this place. The servers were old school Italian which certainly added to the lore. In addition, the food was good. Started with oysters Rockefeller and calamari and both were really good. We then got the veal chops with roasted potatoes (5 stars), bone-in chicken cacciatorre (4.5 stars) and broiled octopus (2 stars tops). The calamari dish left much to be desired, so the review had to go from a 5 to a 4...especially when its coupled to a side of pasta that had too much water still in the bowl...should be strained a little more. Nonethless, I can't wait to go again. I definitely think that it's one of the better Italian places in this area. They also have a lovely space for parties. We were in and out in no time...always welcome!

Was out in the boonies on work and found this place by accident. Its kinda of big and nice and there was no other client for lunch. Anyways, we ordered mozerella sticks, Salmon and a sandwich. The food was fine but a house fly was circling our food the entire time. Bessie our server brought us complimentary soups.

Started out good with very tasty meaty chili as the "soup". Had veal picatta as entree. I like garlic, but this was overwhelming odor and taste of garlic. . and the veal was tough Crowded but service was very good. Neighborhood type restaurant, so crowd shows probably many returnees. So maybe just bad choice of entree

**This review is based on a Bridal Shower private party** Holy smokes, this location is...unmatched? Coming from Naperville, I felt like we may as well be in Ohio we had driven so far. After we left the highway we still drove and drove and drove. The area didn't seem to improve and definitely didn't look like it would house a cute restaurant. However, after passing a few trees and run-down buildings, we finally made it! Nevermind the area, the restaurant itself is super cute. The room was nice, and staff were friendly. There was a bloody mary/sangria/mimosa bar set-up and that was ultra neat and a great touch to a Sunday affair. The food was...okay. The salad was one of the highlights; I loved the dressing! The food that was served was overwhelming. I wish we knew how many dishes were being served! The first dish, a pasta with garlic and mushroom, was good, but very runny and not enough mushrooms. The remainder of the meal - chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, fish - was good, not great. The mashed potatoes were swimming in butter, with gravy on the side! Definitely not needed...it was already in a butter gravy! Bad location, good and food, but if you live near the area, it's a good bet!

I've been here for several funeral luncheons and the food is always pretty decent but nothing I would go back for. The staff seems like they don't know how to handle large groups well but I'm sure they can handle a regular table more efficiently.

Always enjoy the food here. Delicious Italian cuisine, in large portions, at a reasonable price point. Banquet facilities are also great. I've been to many showers and parties here and they've all been wonderful.

Love it! The food is really good and you get a lot for your money. The chicken Romano and calamari are my faves! Any issues are promptly taken care of by the owner or manager . It's not a chain restaurant so those of you people in love with Olive Garden might not get it. I have had a few family style banquets here too. Their service is spot on and the food is always tasty!

Scramenti's has held my two graduation parties, my Communion party, at the old restaurant and new. they have held my 2 brothers as well. Very good service and food, always a good time had. my relatives even have them cater for their graduations. My father liles to go on dates often there with my mother and always have plenty of food to bring home for us to nibble on later!

We used Scrementi's to cater our reception in June. All my guest had nothing but great things to say about the food. My biggest concern about my reception was making sure guest enjoyed the food. I hate going to a wedding reception hungry and when you are brought your meal it's tasteless, cold and days old (I did not want banquet food!) Everything was fresh and if you need servers they are able to provide this service. My only regret was I did not order enough servers.

This is a very nice place to have dinner or lunch. The food is very good, and if you know what to ask for you can order "off menú". We go for special occasions. Ask for the Bermuda Triangle (shrimp, scallops and crab claws cooked with butter garlic and wine over linguini) DELICIOSO!

Went for dinner with a seven person group. Was good, solid Italian food with prompt service. The dining area is pretty quaint with a gas fireplace in the center which unfortunately was not cranked up when we were there. The ambiance is pretty lively. We sat down at 6pm and nearly every table was full in the smallish dining area. Has maybe enough tables for 40 people or so. While the dishes are priced above where most restaurants in the area would shake out each meal comes with soup and salad so you get a decent amount to eat. I had the sausage and peppers which was delicious. For those of us who live in Crete area you know there is not much beyond Northwoods and Aurelios and those are a bit more downscale. Scrementi's isn't fancy (folks were mostly wearing jeans) but its also the type of place where you are not out of place business casual. Great find as we live close by. Will definitely be back.

We had Scrementi's cater our wedding this past weekend and the guests absolutely raved about the food. The filet mignons were tender and cooked perfectly, something that is hard to do when catering! The planner I worked with was so helpful and flexible during the whole process and on the day of the reception, the servers and chef were amazing. They went out of their way to do anything needed and made it possible for me to enjoy time with my guests instead of worrying about the small details like opening wine, keeping soft drinks and ice replenished, or cake serving. We loved it so much that when we dropped off the linens today two days after our reception, we stayed and enjoyed the fantastic lunch buffet at the restaurant. They will be my first choice of caterers from now on.

I come here for lunch a few times a month. The food is consistently good. The portions are generous. The roasted chicken is one if my favorites. I've never tried the pasta, but it looks good.

We went for Mom's bday on 2/22/2013 and did not have a good experience. Our waitress was less than attentive. They definitely lost money on alcohol because of her. She had no idea what gluten free was. When our food came out all the vegetables were ice cold. We got there at 6:30 and left at 9 because that's how long it took to get food. Overprice for the food and service we received.

Wen ther for lunch I had the buffet. Very small spread. Stuffed green pepper can ony be found on buffet. VERY good. They have pizza on buffet on mondays also good. Oddly enough they had sliced pork and gravy and mashed potatos. Good, but I was wishing for more Italian dishes. Husband had chicken parm. Good fresh. No frozen chicken patties here all from scratch. Sauce is watery though, it made eating messy . I would go back but I think it is pricey and could offer some better selections.

This place is awesome. Family-owned, wonderful atmosphere, terrific food. We used to go there quite regularly as it was my Grandpa's favorite place, so we got on the level to where all the servers would come by and say hello to him, as well as the owner, who would always take the time to chat for a bit. Even while they're always busy, everyone working there has a smile on their face and are wonderfully attentive. Now that Grandpa's passed on, we're not in the Crete/Steger area as much as we used to be, but I hope I can get back there soon with the family. I miss it so.

One of the worst dinning experiences we have had in years! We decided at the a last minute to make reservations before going to a show at GSU. Being an Italian restaurant we thought 90 minutes would be plenty of time for dinner. When we arrived we were seated within about 10 minutes, fine so far... But, then they saat us in the attached banquet room because they were too full. I can over that, but I can already tell I am going to be in for a rough service. Waitress came fairly quickly, although she seemed very overwhelmed by the rush of patrons they were dealing with that night, so much so, that she missed important points about our dietary restrictions, and virtually was non existent during service when we needed water, etc.

This is now one of our two favorite Italian restaurants near Homewood (the other is Balagio). I had the sausage with peppers, it was a HUGE portion and all of us had to get doggy bags, there was no way to finish it all there. The salad variety is amazing, fresh, and delicious, they offer you three kinds of salad AND one of two soups with all entrees. Service was good, clean restaurant, and best of all NO WAIT, NO RESERVATIONS required on a Friday night. Any other Italian restaurant of the same quality we would have had at least a 45 minute wait.

I have been here for banquets in the past and was completely happy with all the food served, but took mom here yesterday for mothers day... sorry mom. The bread and spreads were very good, but when our bottle of wine came (only one choice of pinot noir), it had a screw off top (not very impressive). Mom wanted secilian cod, but, at 5 pm, they were out of sauted greens on which it is usually served. My husband ordered a rigatoni dish, but she came back to let him know they were out of rigatoni. When his dish was served, they had omitted the sausage. She brought that half way through the meal. The dinning room was not exceptionally busy, but our entree took quite a while to be served. Highlights were the minestrone soup, calamari and the bread with assorted spreads. I did give two stars because of past banquet experiences. I'm not sure I will go back for dinner though.

Went for lunch. The italian beef sandwich with peppers was out of this world. We were offered marinara sauce on the side that was a nice touch but not need. Their fries were thin, hot and tastey as well. What a great place!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
