Cash Maya has always been a favorite place for my family and I. We used to go basically every week. The food is reasonably priced and some days during the week have 1/2 priced margaritas. If you go on those days, you are most likely going to wait a little bit. If you love Mexican food, you should go here.

The Mole Ranchero was very tasty. The tortilla chips were a bit soft and chewy, but the salsa was above average. The guacamole was OUT OF THIS WORLD great! I would go just for that! The place was fairly clean and good for groups with small children. My wife got a chicken taco salad and said it was OK. My son gobbled up his kid's plate which had a chicken enchilada with beans and rice. No real complaints here, but nothing super amazing either. I would go back again as the prices were decent.

Menu has a lot of dishes and so far tried the Bistek Mexicana, Tacos and Chicken Enchiladas. I enjoyed all of them. Especially the Enchiladas. Very clean and very friendly staff.

I went in a few weeks ago on a Monday night for dinner with a friend. Although I've lived here my whole life, this was my first visit. The food was very good. Chips and salsa to start off were delicious. I ordered the guacamole appetizer but the waitress brought me a side by mistake which ended up working out because I didn't LOVE it. I had cheese enchiladas and refried beans and both were really good. My main issue was the service, there were only 3 tables in the restaurant and 2 servers yet somehow our drinks were always empty and we never had refills on chips and salsa. Our server kept saying she was sorry, but I honestly think she was in the back talking based on what I saw when we left. I would go back but hope for better service.

Very comprehensive menu but the food is always hot and fresh. Service is quick and the chips and salsa that come as a complimentary starter are terrific. Lunch specials are the best deal and are a lot of food for a reasonable price. My go-to favorite is the carne asada lunch special.

This was our first time here and it was amazing. Generous portions and great quality. We will definitely return.

Solid Mexican food. Very reasonably priced! Typical Mexican restaurant atmosphere. Service was excellent. Chips and Guacamole were good but have had better. Beef enchiladas were excellent, chicken were ok. For a typical small town Mexican place, not bad, but you aren't likely to be raving about it either.

Our favorite Mexican spot in the area. The service is always great and the food is delicious. Try the Pollo Fundido!

I grew up closer to Chicago, where I grew accustomed to real, good Mexican food. Moving way out in the burbs has taught me to appreciate good Mexican food when you can get it, and this place is it. I've tried several places out this was and this place blows them all out of the water. Don't waste your time, just order from here. Their dine in restaurant is really nice as well!

I was invited to lunch today by a good friend and he brought me to Casa Maya. I am very jaded when it comes to Hispanic food. I usually cannot stomach the ingredients and suffer for days. However, this lunch was different! I not only enjoyed the food, but am laying in bed now with no "side affects!" The ambiance was kinda funky, but it was lunch. Weird bar away from the restaurant set up. The all important "first impression" at a Mexican restaurant is made by the chips and salsa. Casa Maya has perfect taste/ texture to its tortilla chips and the salsa was acceptable. B The service was adequate, but the waitress spoke nearly no English. I've found that some of my greatest Mexican meals were served by non English speaking waitresses! I ordered the pork with rice, beans and corn tortillas. The food was fresh and came out fast. I enjoyed the rice and beans, they were very unique and pleasant. The pork was cooked well and I did really enjoy them. I will be returning again soon for dinner to really get a feel for Casa Maya. Being conservative with the three star rating, hope to raise it to a four following dinner.

Our waitress was friendly, courteous, and timely. The restaurant was clean. The chips and salsa were good. I had the pozole, it was my first time having this soup but it is definitely something I will order again. And again. And again. It was delicious. My kids ordered American food at a Mexican restaurant it was expected it would be mediocre and it definitely was. I give it 4 stars because I've had 5 star. But if you live in Shorewood and want to eat local this would be a great choice.

Literally the best Mexican restaurant I have ever tried. We have eaten here dozens of times and it has never been bad. Their Mole is amazing and is right on point. I usually get that or their Enchiladas Supremas. The red sauce is perfect and never greasy. My wife has tried all of their vegetarian dishes and loved their Chili Relleno. Do not miss out. Go here, support the local business. Half price margaritas on Tues and Wed also.

A Shorewood favorite, not just cause I live here and it's close but really a quality restaurant. We enjoy this as a family or just a date. It's always consistently quality. Not the most flavor but good. Always good. That's why 5 star because it's never bad food or service. Like the huge 32oz. Beer!!!

Would love to go again. Nice atmosphere for everyone & a little homey feel. Hot steaming food , but could've had a little more rice , even if I ordered combo #11 for $9 something, heehee... Friendly service and waiting time for food to arrive for a busy Friday night wasn't too bad.

Just ok. Horchata very cinnamony. Beef for tacos tasted reheated. Fast service. Not much flavor.

Place has gone down hill. We loved this place when we moved to the area 11 years ago. Ate here many times and it was good. Not sure if owners changed, but menu changed. I asked to get an entree off old menu, and they refused. Prices went way up and menu items disappeared. Beans and rice did not appear to be fresh cooked. Portion sizes decreased. It is sad, because I used to really love this place, and now we will never return.

Love this place. The food is always good, & the service always great. The steak is flavorful, & tender. The taco dinner is my favorite. Good food at a reasonable price.

My family and I enjoyed our dinner at Casa Maya. The quality of the food here is a step above most of the other Mexican restaurants in the area. Service was fast and friendly

Ugh, I hate writing negative reviews and I really wanted to like this Mexican place, but the food was just not good!! I am Mexican and having grown up eating at some of the best Mexican restaurants I can tell when the quality of the food and preparation are sub-par. The rice and beans were definitely not fresh, they had been cooked for a couple of days, and the meat was not good at all! I was so disappointed. The establishment does not seem clean, and I dislike the carpet. There is a Burrito Rico close to this restaurant and although that place is a bit more simple, the food is delicious and cannot be compared. Will definitely not be back to Casa Maya :(.

Casa Maya is our favortie Mexican restuarant. We have never had a bad dish and service is always dependable. We like family owned places and this fits every one of our criteria. Consistant staff, good food and very reasonable prices.

Overall a great neighborhood Mexican restaurant. I popped in for a friends fundraiser. The restaurant helped raise money for a friend of ours. What was even sweeter was that the owners kids did it all by their self! Food was delicious. Some of the best guacamole I've ever had!

One of the better Mexican eateries in the area. They have consistently good food at pretty reasonable prices. I'd have to say the steak/chorizo tacos are my personal favorite, while the taco salad is my wife's favorite. Chips and salsa are great as well. Only dish we've had that wasn't above average were the fish tacos, which had good flavor but simply not enough fish (too heavily battered). The weekly half priced margarita specials are definitely worth it and they have a better flavor selection than most places. Sometimes service leaves a little bit to be desired, but that's only a minor complaint.

Best mexican food in Chicagoland. We are from California originally and this is as close to CA mexican food as you can get. Servers were always good, VERY INEXPENSIVE food items, and it was well lit and clean. Don't waste your time eating at Pepe's.. service at the Pepe's near Shorewood has always sucked.

Love Casa Maya! We have been going here for years. We have tried all the other local Mexican restaurants and they don't compare. We always go back to Casa Maya. We have brought friends and family here and they all have liked it too!

Casa Maya, has a nice feel to it. Very clean, friendly staff, and good food. Unfortunately my dinner was trumped by poor service. My meal started with traditional chips and salsa. Both were good, with the salsa having a mild spice and tasted very fresh. Shortly after the server took my order the food came out. Around 7-10 min which was very quick (in a good way) and seemed to be the pattern with majority of others that ordered around me. The portions were very generous, and the food tasted great. Unfortunately from the moment i sat down till i left i rarely saw my server. I appeared to be her only table in her station. The two other servers in the restaurant had multiple tables, and gave better service thus adding to my frustration. From needing refills on drinks, to asking for extra salsa, and tortillas during my meal everything was fulfilled by another server in the same room as where i was eating. I felt she deserved the tip more than my server. I left disappointed in what could have been a new found favorite. I may give it another chance in the near future, due to the quality of the food. I just hope the service is better next time around.

We went here for dinner last night and everyone liked their meals. The salsa was really good too, though half our party would have preferred a spicier version. Our margarita's were great too. We almost didn't go there because the menu we found online was for the wrong place. So don't be fooled, this place is very affordable.

My entire family loves this place. The restaurant is clean, has very fast service, and they get our order right every time. I love Tito's Special (shrimp and chicken covered with cheese), my husband loves the carnitas and my kids love the steak tacos and cheese dip. Last time we were there I noticed they now have daily specials, although I only remember the 2 for $20 fajitas on Mondays because that is what we ordered.

Not a bad place at all. We lived in Chicago and found casa maya to be as close to authentic as any Mexican restaurant Chicago as to offer and I have to many. Good service, good prices and overall very good and fresh food.

My favorite mexican restuarant in the area. The staff are very friendly and the food is great. The free chips and salsa are tasty and the menu is large. I usually get the tito's special which comes with shrimp, chicken, rice and beans, and your choice of flour or corn tortillas on the side.

We got there at 11:15am so we were one of the first in the lunch crowd. It took 35 minutes to get our food. This is the equivalent to over an hour in non-mexican restaurants. The biggest problem was that this was some of the blandest mexican food I have ever had. I had been putting off starting a Yelp account, but this place was so bad it finally caused me to start one just so I could write a review about Casa Maya. Stay away at all costs.

Best mexican food I've tasted. The chimichangas are so good that I have to have one at least once a week. I even eat the beans here (I usually don't eat mexican beans) because they are delicious. I love how it is never crowded and the food is served to you in a timely manner. Excellent place!

This is a great little Mexican restaurant. It's super for takeout when you don't feel like sitting down for a meal or cooking. The recently painted the inside and added new tables and chairs and it looks pretty nice for a little restaurant. I highly recommend them.

Margaritas were good and salsa pretty good. they are moderately priced, and food is decent. we only went once so far because its close and wanted to try it. got half off margaritas, i think it was a wednesday, we had gone out for my bday. place was dead though, granted it was 730pm i believe.

On my way back from a skydiving trip, I was in the mood for yet another spicy, challenging experience. Tucked away in some sort of a strip mall, this average looking restaurant didn't seem very appealing. And yet, the shrimp with chipotle sauce the ensued, did! If you're ever in the area, and you have to choose between the Thai place next door or a Mexican, juicy, spicy dish, you know what door to knock on.

  • Johnny T.

Really, the best thing about this place was the small atmosphere where you feel far away from everyone else. Salsa was OK, my strawberry margarita ($4 for large) was very satisfactory. The steak burrito @ $9 was alright, nothing too memorable. I also didn't like that they don't have Mexican ice cream which is pretty much a staple in a lot of Mexican joints. Overall, the food didn't seem too authentic to me, not that there's anything wrong with that. I wouldn't make an effort to go back but, I'd go back if I only lived in Shorewood or if a friend insisted on going here.

Service was terrible and I was the only one there. Lunch was nothing special for the $12.95 price tag. There are much better places around for mexican food..

Found this place on accident. Tucked away in a strip mall. The food seems authentic. Not sure I agree with Brian S and Johnny T..but everyone has their own opinion, right guys? For the price, it can't be beat. Most items on the menu are all under $10. The food is served fresh and hot with just the right amount of spice. The portion size is perfect. There's no need to serve up an 8" burrito that looks like a giant log on your plate. The staff are friendly and service is pretty quick. Their reputation must be growing because the last few times we've ventured over there, the place was packed. This ain't Pepe's or Taco Bell. Give them a try.

Just your average Mexican-American grub. Carnitas are decent; margaritas are excessively sweet; beer is nice and cold.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
