I needed a place to study and grab some food, and after asking around Mary's was suggested. I went on a Wednesday, which also happened to be $8 pasta night, so I tried the tortellini with basil cream sauce. While this is no Italian bistro or anything, they cooked the tortellini to the perfect doneness and the sauce was creamy, basily, and had a cheesy bonus of fresh parm on top. The dish also came with what I would assume was an asiago cheese bread of sorts, which was also very delicious and I used to mop up all that creamy, basily, cheesy sauce goodness left over in the dish. I needed to avoid food coma, so I got my standard coffee order, a large iced americano. Which the size wasn't as large as a Starbucks venti or anything, it was strong and tasty and indeed kept me awake while I was there. Inside there are a lot of seating opportunities, from a bar/barstool area to high tables to standard circle and rectangle tables and booths as well. I sat next to the fireplace, which while I soon found out was quite warm (duh you'd think I'd know better) was also rather relaxing. Overall I had a great experience and recommend it as an alternative to Panera or Starbucks, it has a local feel while still being a large physical space. Free wi-fi too, which is solid. And I think a sign said grilled cheese sandwich night is Mondays, so I will probably be back there for that in a couple of weeks.

When I walked into this place, I totally thought I was in Panera or Corner Bakery. It has that ambience of a ritzy sandwich shop. It wasn't too busy when me and my roommate went here like @ 8pm on a snowy night. I ordered some sort of avocado grilled cheese sandwich with chips. It was nothing spectacular and to me, it was not worth the price. My bill was almost $10 for the sandwich and chips with no drink. The cashiers behind the corner were kind of slow and seem to be more concerned about talking to one another. I don't think I will be back.

The food is great and is always very fresh. The prices are slightly high- I would be inclined to visit more often but the customer service reps are very cold and come across rude and pretentious. Keep up the great menu but needs to focus on customer service training. The Edge brook location is worse than the Perryville location.

Was here years ago and thought it was a little dirty. Things have gotten worst. Food was good but window sills dusty and the worst is ceiling heavy dust that could fall in food. Overall they need a good cleaning.

My first breakfast at Mary's! Let me say I have been here quite a few times over the years. I had the breakfast burrito (I know I know. Why do I eat so many breakfast burritos!? I can't help myself! Lol). Side of Bacon. Croissant. I love croissants even more than breakfast burritos, I think. The croissant here was lightly dusted with powder sugar. So it seemed more like a desert croissant. Better than Schnucks garbage but heavy and sweet- which doesn't really say great things to me. The burrito tasted really good (I am a sucker for anything with black beans in it) and was a good size. But I wished there was more egg. Bacon was great! But it's hard to ruin bacon isn't it? Lol I really do like Mary's Market. This was take out but I almost changed my mind just so I could eat by the fire. Breakfast was so so, I don't think I will make it point to come back in the AM- with the exception of trying some of their breakfast pastries. After all, my love of pastries trumps burritos, bacon and croissants. And Mary's does baked items VERY well.

My first visit here made me say to myself- "Never again". The young staff needs to be taught how to speak to adults and also not to act 'flighty' in a business setting. I asked for a paper menu, they have them in the plastic holders, I was told I could not take one... "I CAN'T LET YOU STEAL THAT". 'Stealing' a paper menu? This teenager needs to learn the art of customer satisfaction and service. She disappeared for 20 minutes at one point. I had the french onion soup- be warned it is a thick gravy not the broth one would be used to as common, it truly tasted like gravy from a can. Beef stew- I was truly confused, my mind didn't know what to think about it. As with many places in the area, the prices seem inflated for the product. I have heard wonderful things about Mary's, so I may try it again, I can only hope I don't have a flippant teenaged server again.

My husband & I were in Rockford for a wedding, and didn't want the standard hotel breakfast stuff. We found this gem, just a few miles from our hotel. Nice breakfast menu with lots of selection for adults & kids, good quality food, reasonable prices. I ordered the Mary's Breakfast Sampler. The Swedish pancakes were light and tasty, and the ligonberry butter made syrup unnecessary. He ordered the Spicy Bacon Brie sandwich and loved it. I hope we have the opportunity to go back to another Mary's!

Very nicely designed cafe with many interesting choices on the menu. I ordered the Thai Chicken personal pizza which would've been quite good, I think, if it had been freshly made. It was obviously reheated in the oven, making the crust crispy, but drying out the chicken, the spicy sauce, even the cheese. My husband's fish tacos were "just okay."

Just had a scone and coffee but i love how friendly the staff were. All the bakery items looked like they'd be as good as my scone, and this place has a really nice and relaxed atmosphere. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area!

What a bunch of bologna! I feel like I was completely duped! After being guests at a very long wedding celebration the night before, we needed to get our eats on. And fast. We had no patience for local chains and sit down establishments. Therefore, I chose this independent Panera-esque bakery and cafe. Oops! When we walked in, there was wait at noon on Sunday. There were cases of luscious looking baked goods and racks of full size menus. No menu boards, but the staff rushed us toward the counter and so we walked. After a brief conversation, we decided to just get something in our tummies and head home. The cashier was nice, but clueless. She clearly didn't know the answers to my questions and was making up answers as we went along. And so, thinking that they hand-pack and never freeze their burgers, we decide to split one with a side of rosemary potatoes and then promptly chose waaaay too many bakery goods to take home. We waited far too long for our burger. My hubby had a sip or two of the burnt coffee. And we waited some more. When the burger finally arrived, it looked lovely. The roll looked light and fluffy and the potatoes were plentiful. Well, the roll was nice. That's where it ends. When I ordered the burger, the gal at the counter asked what temperature and I said medium. This burger was cooked to hockey puck. It was so dry and so flavorless. Quite a disappointment. Oh and it was tiny. Probably because they cooked the $h!+ out of the frozen patty! Anyhow we tried the potatoes and I think those were cooked earlier in the week and microwaved once they ruined the burger. Such a waste! The good news? The baked goods were pretty tasty. They really should stick to the bakery side of things. If I had simply had a pastry while visiting, this would probably be a four star review.

I have been coming here since before I can remember, all three locations. My boyfriend had never been. He had the wasabi tuna sub which I was also eyeing so we shared that and a sampler (soup and sandwich combo) which I have gotten since I was probably three years old. The sub was absolutely amazing, perfect flavor on all aspects. As always the French onion soup was outstanding, the best. Service also was great as usual. Dessert to go was a must. Never disappointed here and will ALWAYS come back.

Highly recommend this place. I ordered the little Havana and being Cuban I was ready to judge that they didn't make it right. Well let me tell you that sandwich took me to flavor town and back! I gave it a 5 star because it's as high as I can go. We will now be doing our weekly young adults meetings here for sure.

We had the fish tacos, french onion soup, french dip, and some pastries. It was all delicious and very well made with fresh ingredients. If you're traveling and need some place really good, with something everyone will enjoy, this is the place!

I learned about Mary's from a coworker and close friend who said it would blow Panera out of the water. She was so right! The first time I came here I ordered the Havana melt with Black Bean Salad on the side. THEN I got coffee and a bakery item. Everything was prompt, hot and delicous. Today I ordered the Jalepeno Thyme Corn Chowder and half of the Artichoke Pesto Grilled Cheese. I was in some kind of heaven I swear! So as I sit here and drink some of their white russian coffee, I have to say this place is amazing! The options are vast, the service is great, and best of all the food will not disappoint! My only suggestion to them would be to have a clearly marked line. Its a little confusing to know where to get in line. Also, while the staff is helpful and friendly, it would be nice to be asked if you've been there before just because it is a little different and to have someone explain things to you with a smile would be the cherry on top. That aside, I will be back...probably every friday haha! So glad I found this place!

Hands down my favorite place for lunch (only because I've never had dinner here haha). The jalapeno thyme corn chowder is to die for with a hint of spice and a deliciously sweet and creamy finish. I always pair that with a create your own sandwich only because I love it so much. There's so many things on their menu I'd love to try! Their frosted sugar cookies are my favorite and you can get those as a side with the pick 2 option. Perfectly soft and melt in your mouth! Today I decided to try the white russian coffee to go with my cookie and the flavor was great, I plan on seeing if they sell this in store next time I go. The only thing I could complain about is they need more signage for where the line starts because that tends to get a little confusing when it's busy. Overall one of my favorite places in town, would pick this over panera any day!

Pot roast sliders were dry. By chance, I ordered vegetable beef soup and dipped the sliders to give them some more taste and moisten things up a bit. Same thing for the angus slider. Though it wasn't busy at all, it took 25 minutes for the meal to delivered.

I like this place, it's dependable and tasty and a nice option for lunch. The menu is large with many different options. Today I had the seared tuna and avocado with wasabi spread on "french'" bread (it was not truly a french style baguette - much too soft and not crusty enough). In the past I have tried the curried lentil soup and found it really flavorful with a nice texture. I have also tried the dessert - in the peanut butter fudge brownie - and it was so delicious. Very much like eating a Reese cup in a brownie. Very rich.

I've eaten here or had take-out from here multiple times over the years and my experience has always been the same. The service has been hit or miss depending on the time of the day and how busy they are. In the mornings, like today, they seemed more pre-occupied with getting set up (an hour after opening) than with assisting us or even answering the question, "what is the muffin of the day?" We didn't see it listed anywhere. The food is okay. I've never been overly impressed with anything they've made. I know they try to add a foodsy, artistic, creative spin to their menu, but it comes across as a little pretentious. Especially when you compare what you get to the price you pay. Sure I don't mind paying almost $10.00 for basically a grilled cheese sandwich, but it better taste like it was worth it... and it didn't. This morning I had the Mary's Market Spinach Quiche with a blueberry muffin. The quiche was so heavy in the spinach; it was the only thing you really tasted. It was bland, and really needed something else to make it more palatable. At least the blueberry muffin was decent. I've had better, but I can't complain. Overall, the foods not bad, but the price doesn't match the quality. The service could be better. At least the restaurant itself is clean.

The decor is about the same as a panera. The food is ok. The French onion soup is kind of bland, but has a nice amount of cheese. The artichoke grilled cheese is a great concept but mediocrely executed. The rosemary potatoes need to be crispier and better seasoned.

this is one of my favorite places in rockford. delicious food, cheery staff, good ingredients, just everything you want in a restaurant. only thing i'm not a fan of is the whole standing around to look at a menu thing. it's not so easy when it's not fastfood and you feel like youre in everyones way. otherwise an awesome place to go.

We had several experiences with poor customer service with the girls at the counter. They always seemed annoyed when we asked questions about the menu. We ultimately complained to the manager and he tried to make amends and apologized but the damage was done. We have not ate there in over a year. The food is okay.

I had food from this place (other location) a few years ago but only catered. I was so excited to finally get to a location in person! After a day in Rockford I stopped into Mary's Market for a weekend lunch. I really didn't know what to expect being in the place, it was more casual than I thought but that's cool casual is always good! It's set up a lot like Panera Bread. It's cute, has a bakery section with breads, treats and then a section to order your food. They offer up real menu's to look over and you will need time to look since there is a lot of awesome sounding stuff! I went safe and got what I knew I liked, the California Pie. They gave us a number and we seated ourselves. Not too long after the food was brought out. But while waiting I noticed other entree's being served, and omg seriously nothing looked bad! It all looked delicious. I think I was freaking people out by the staring...I just hope the drool wasn't noticeable! ;) The California pie was indescribably delicious! If you are a cheese lover this is a win. It's cheese, vegetables and just a touch of turkey baked in a pie crust. I know doesn't sound that good right? Oh it is! I HATE pie crust and just crust in general. I have always hated it and often pawn it onto others. This is the only crust I will eat, and actually enjoy! So that says a lot in my book. I left full, happy, and grabbed a to go menu. It was a drive to get there, but I can't wait to go back already! The prices a touch higher than Panera's and the like, but it's very much worth it IMO. I think any of the locations of Mary's Market will be just as delicious, so keep your eyes peeled if you are in the area!

Great for a night babysitting. The restaurant is open and has a casual atmosphere. We grabbed some menus, a table, and took our time deciding what to get. I always go for the Market Sampler, half soup and half sandwich. There are usually about 6 or 7 soup choices (one or two are vegetarian, at least). The sandwich half also has zillions of choices for bread, meat, cheese, toppings and sauces. I can play it safe and try something new. They have fresh baked cookies (which comes with the market sampler) as well as other cakes and breads. The choices make it perfect for the kids. They can be picky, but still get something healthy. Soup and a fruit cup for one and a sandwich and cookie for the other. A little expensive, but the food was delicious. Another good meal is the turkey bacon wrap with potato wedges. Big portions and fresh ingredients.

The cream of broccoli and cream of mushroom soups are my favorites.The avocado tacos are great. I love Mary's Market. Some of their things are a little overpriced (looking at you giant salads), but otherwise everything is well done. I *still* wish they had a menu board though. It's ridiculously awkward to stand there and read a menu in your hand, plus no one can ever find them. Maybe one day...

WOW! We had: Brie Apple sandwich, French onion soup, blackbean salad, havardi dill on francese bread. White chocolate macademia cookies, pastries, power scone. Cafe mocha, white chocolate peppermint mocha. Reubens: regular & California. French onion soup. Power scones, francese bread, blueberries & pineapple macademia scones. Not all in the same trip. This place is so good we came back many times on this trip. Yup, panera like, but waaay better. Portions are fine. American portions are usually too big. The thing that Mary's has is the amazing quality. Not a bad item in the above listed. Service is good, but not quite as super-friendly as some places. We figure it's a Rockford, IL thing. The servers are quite nice & will even smile & bring your order & coffee. Just not the over sappy, pretend friendly, these folks are working their tails off & doing a great job getting good food to us in a good time, which I'll take over superfriendly service with crappy food that is cold when it gets to us **ANYTIME**.

I've been here a couple of times, and tried several of their dishes. The food is good, served at the appropriate temperature, and relatively promptly. The "quick hits" on the dishes I've tried: -- Bruschetta Trio - of the 3 plated items (1. Tomato basil with Parmesan 2. Grilled vegetable with pesto and feta 3. Caramelized onion, roasted pepper and goat cheese), the star is the caramelized onion, roasted pepper and goat cheese. The onion and red pepper balance out the strong flavor of the goat cheese, and complement each other quite well -- Seared Wasabi Tuna Sandwich - this dish was only ok as the tuna was beyond seared, and ended up being a bit dry. Also, since it's an open faced sandwich, it got a little messy when trying to get all components into one bite -- Spicy Grilled Salmon Sandwich - I'm a big fan of anything with avocado and pico de gallo, so I was VERY happy when this sandwich lived up to my desired expectations. Salmon was grilled perfectly, and the jalapeno cheese bun added a nice little kick for variety There's usually a good amount of people in the restaurant, so it's not the quietest of places, but it's certainly quiet enough to enjoy the paper or your favorite book. Enjoy!

Terrific food, fresh menu, great local choice in a sea of chains on perryville. Had the grilled ceasar wrap today, & loved it. We love the Friday Mac 'n Cheese specials as well.

I ate here a few months back; I ordered the Mediterranean Wrap [Vegan] along with Vegetarian Chili [also Vegan]. The wrap was very good, however I do not recommend the Veggie Chili; it tasted more like thick vegetable soup and was not very good. The atmosphere was VERY nice; it was especially a nice place to sit and eat by yourself [which is what I did]. There is another restaurant attached to it [in the front] called Aunt Mary's...just keep that in mind, as I almost went into there instead. Overall it was a very nice experience; it's nice to know that I have a place to eat when I visit my friends in Rockford!
