Egg Harbor Café Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Nice place. Healthy options galore. Right down to the organic ketchup on the table. Joe's healthy scrambler was fine but a little watery at the bottom & light on the turkey sausage. Torpedo sausages as a side were great. Service good & prompt.

My daughter and I had a getaway weekend planned for Chicago in February, and I was in charge of picking places to eat. We wanted to stop somewhere halfway on the drive from Madison to have brunch, and based on positive Yelp reviews and the impressive amount of gluten free and fruit and veggie filled offerings on the menu, I chose Egg Harbor Café. So, before I go on....how do you feel about chickens? Every inch of this place is inundated with chickens. Chicken paintings. Chicken statues. Wrought iron chickens. Bathroom counter chickens. Chickens everywhere you look. It's a bit egg-cessive, really, but very charming nonetheless. The place was hopping on a Saturday morning, and it was a very nice, cheery place to be. Nothing to get your feathers ruffled over. The enticing offering of fresh squeezed orange juice and other juice blends was a huge deciding factor in selecting this restaurant, as was the bottomless cup of Intelligensia coffee. Our server, a high school aged young man I'm guessing, did an absolutely egg-cellent job. We were very well taken care of, and our special requests were brought instantly. (More butter, please?) No problem. He brought eggs-tra napkins without even being asked. The menu was eggs-tensive, and it took us a long time to decide what to order...and we ended up ordering an entree each and splitting another one, because it all sounded so good! My daughter got gluten free Boston cream pancakes. She was eggs-tremely pleased with them. I had the Swedish pancakes and the half order of Barrington eggs benedict, and it was fine. Fairly bland. Food wise, everything was just...fine. Nothing life-changingly awesome, but nothing bad, either. I definitely plan to come back on future drives into Chicago, and check out more of their menu. --------- Just one eggs-tra thing about our visit...the wooden booth seat had an unseen jagged little piece of wood sticking out that jabbed me in my calf right through my jeans as I slid out of the booth. Nothing dramatic, just a scratch/poke that barely bled. I mentioned it to the manager, Jim, just so they could make sure to take a look at it before someone else got stuck by it. His reaction was so impressive and professional and caring. He immediately closed down that booth, he comped our *entire* brunch tab, *and* he asked me to buy a new pair of jeans and send him the receipt and he would reimburse me for them. Quite amazing, and completely un-eggs-peck-ted, but appreciated. I didn't bother getting the jeans reimbursed because they were fine, but what a class act to respond in such a way. Much respect!

This was my first time visiting this place and it won't be the last. Their service was pretty fast and excellent. I had a pretty good experience there and so did my wife. I would definitely recommend them to my friends and family.

This is one of the nicer breakfast spots in town. You know not like one of those other breakfast places where you are kind of concerned about how your food is made or who it is made by. They have an extensive menu with vegetarian, health, & gluten free options. They also have lunch options that you can order at any time. I would give the food and service a solid 4/5 stars. If I ever go out for breakfast which isn't often this is the place.

While I share Anthony Bourdain's general distaste for Rachael Ray, I can't help but channel her here: "Yum-o!" With an extensive menu, reasonable prices, and crazy-huge portions for the prices you pay, Egg Harbor is a keeper. We also received friendly, attentive service, and I was amazed to find my hot tea came as loose leaves in a pot, not as a teabag. I had the Swiss Rösti, which was the size of a dinner plate, and also came with a generous helping of fresh fruit, an english muffin, and house-made mixed berry preserves. It was delicious and way more than I needed. I don't recall what the rest of our party had--an omelette and the french toast, I think--but it all looked delicious and quickly disappeared to a lot of mmms. Tables around us were also sporting appetizing breakfast dishes. Egg Harbor Café is definitely on the meal list next time I'm in Rockford. Had we been in town a few days longer, we would have been back.

Based on recommendations from friends and some of the reviews on Yelp, my wife and I decided to hit this place for breakfast the other morning. Wow, I was impressed. We were immediately seated. Our waiter was nice and patient as having never been there before and they having such a large menu that it took a time for us to make up our minds. He kept checking on us to make sure when we were ready that we didn't want too long and during our meal he stayed at a distance so we could enjoy it, however if a glass went empty or it looked like we needed something, he was almost immediately there. He did an EXCELLENT job. The food was fantastic. I had the corned beef hash benny. Which is like an eggs Benedict only with corned beef hash instead of Canadian bacon. I don't know if it was the flavor combination or if they used a special hollandaise sauce, but it was a like a rave for the taste buds. My wife had the Southwest Fritata, which she really liked. We tried a bit of each others, I thought it needed something else, but it was still good. She had their special coffee of the day to drink which she felt was okay. I had a glass of their Strawberry Orange juice... as I was in the mood for something different. I could see where some people would really like this, but it wasn't my style. I'll take my standard OJ. It really wasn't the flavor that turned me off, as much as the texture. It had a lot of those little strawberry seeds in it that wasn't all that appetizing for me. I liked this place a lot and am planning on going back sometime. Next time with the kids.

It's a very busy place on Sundays! Totally worth the wait. Everything on the menu is great and service is usually good. If you haven't been here in a while and don't see something on the menu you can order it anyway.

Great place for a morning pick me up! Million times better than any other breakfast chain in the Rockford area. Even though they're a local 'chain' it feels like home cooking and they really have quality food. Get any combo, the pancakes are awesome, French toast is awesome, and truly their egg meals are really good as they offer lots of choice and customization to their plates. Highly recommended!

Decent Rockford breakfast, probably top 3 options (especially if visiting during the week). Portions are not as big yet quality is higher than typical greasy spoon type places. They're known for their preserves which is actually tasty. Coffee is also decent, but I'd stop short in calling it great.

  • Angela W.

Wow! Extremely fast service, great coffee - pancakes are a must. My husband had the skillet and I had the special, a Spanish-style omelet. Everything was fantastic except the English muffin, which was hard as a rock. When we go again, I'll probably ask for toast instead of the English muffin. If I could give it 4.7 stars, I would. Nice country decor, clean and extremely good service - our server was Taylor; she was one of the best servers we've had in a while in any restaurant. We will be back!

Absolutely amazing! My family and I stopped by on our way home to Indianapolis. I choose this place because of the amazing reviews and everyone was correct. The service was great, everyone was very friendly. The waitress went out of her way too make our 3yr old feel special. She gave him stickers and made sure his pancake was shaped like Mickey mouse. I had the lemon poppy seed pancakes with bacon and eggs. It was just devine. My husband had the fried tomatoes skillet, it was so yummy that he ate it so fast that I couldn't take a picture. Wish we had a place like this in Indianapolis.

A visit with my grandma always ends with breakfast at Egg Harbor. Today was no different. I was able to introduce my friend Tara to the tastiness they serve up. Grandma had her usual crepes, Tara enjoyed the reliable omelette and I went crazy and tried the quinoa breakfast bowl. I was very pleased with my choice. The warm almond milk was perfect for the blend of chia, sunflower seeds and quinoa mix. The plain greek yogurt and honey on the side were quite yummy and I just stirred everything up together. We started the meal by sharing a cinnamon roll. It was warm and had a nice flavor but was a bit dry on the inside. Our server Dominic was fantastic as were the other employees with whom we interacted.

Walked in at 9:00am. We where seated immediately. The fresh squeezed orange juice was amazing. They brought the coffee pot to the table. The waitstaff was attentive but not overbearing. The food portions where filling and worth the price. I am over the moon for this place and will be back as often as possible.

Egg Harbor is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots in Rockford. Bottomless coffee is a must-you can't beat the price either. I haven't had one thing on the menu that I didn't enjoy, and they offer everything from egg dishes to the most amazing banana bread french toast.

I was so excited to eat here after the great reviews but maybe I missed something.... I agree with some others that food was very forgettable!

I have only been here once but loved it! Plan to go back as soon as I can. Staff was very friendly. Seating was comfortable and quiet. Service was fast, food was fresh. Tons of different quality menu options, for the meat eater and vegetarian alike. Prices were perfect for the portion sizes. I had a skillet combo, which included skillet potatoes with one egg made your way, cheese, and two additional toppings. There were a lot to choose from, but I went with broccoli (seemed steamed, and was very delicious), and roasted red peppers, which were also quite tasty. Since it was a combo, it also came with banana bread French toast, topped with bananas and powdered sugar. Super moist, and sweet enough with all the bananas that I didn't even need syrup. All in all, a wonderful breakfast/brunch joint I will be returning to many times!

My family eats at the Rockford EHC every week! We appreciate the attentive service, and the delicious food options. They are happy to make substitutions or even let me order something from a prior menu if they have the ingredients! I love the Intelligentsia coffee and have even purchased two of the mugs to use at home. I love the atmosphere and feel so at home every week. My favorites: blueberry pancake combo or barbecue chop salad My tip: something isn't right? Tell the server! They happily fix mistakes.

stopped by egg harbor for some brunch today. this being my third visit and most important. (I had previously dined here with friends but ate like a bird) immediately greeted by a smiling hostess which is so refreshing! I work at Lucha Cantina as a hostess and I thoroughly enjoy a nice welcoming. our server was dominick and he was excellent. we were ordering our food at about 30 minutes 'til closing and I never caught the vibe of being rushed or that he wanted us to just eat and leave. he was super polite and attentive. on to the food, I ordered the san antonio skillet. my lips have never touched a more delicious breakfast plate. 10/10 would recommend. my fiancé ordered the cinnamon roll french toast and that was equally decadent. definitely a new sunday favorite. thanks!

I thought this place was just okay. I had a salad and wasn't really wow'd by it. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing here and should give it another try next time I'm in town.

The decor isn't particularly unique, but it's coherent. It might, however, indicate a more pedestrian menu than what the cafe actually offers. There are plenty of options here for both the casual breakfast diner and those who might be in the mood for something more adventurous. I, almost unavoidably, fall in line with the latter. My waitress Davina was attentive and managed to remain patient despite my asking her to come back several times while I mulled the menu. I settled on Chorizo Chilaquiles, which was a new dish for me. Tortilla chips in a Verde sauce with shredded cheese and chorizo. I added quinoa to the mix for a buck, and I highly recommend you do the same. The whole deal is topped with two eggs (any style) and 1/3 a fresh avocado. It was delicious. I almost wish the dish was less a "bake" and served more like nachos, which would keep the chips from getting soggy...but it didn't effect my enjoyment of the meal in any chartable way. For checking in, my reward was a free pancake. Which I proceeded to stuff down my face with little regard to how full I already was. Fantastic pancake, to be sure...but I'm not sure the lethargic remainder of my day will prove the decision to have been worth it.

  • Elissa B.

I debated between 3 and 4 stars, but ultimately settled on the higher end as this is usually my breakfast choice when visiting family in Rockford. This is a solid choice compared to other breakfast places in the area, with classic breakfast restaurant decor (chickens...everywhere). The staff is very friendly and mostly attentive. The menu is huge, with a gluten-free menu as a new addition (hooray!). Their specials and seasonal items are delightful, as well as creative. Everyone in your party should be able to find something yummy to eat, and leave stuffed. You even get a take-home cup for your leftover coffee! I noticed that they switched to a new coffee (Intelligentsia) which was great; I need to do research but I'm betting it's a small/local roastery. My most recent visit went smoothly, the food was fantastic, and we were served quickly. Definitely worth a visit if you're here. Negatives: We have had several issues in the past with food coming correctly or at the same time. Staff is great about trying to fix issues, but have come up short multiple times.

  • Jennifer W.

The only place in town that Has decent coffee! They have delicious egg dishes, too. Also: surprisingly tolerant of the gluten free and people with a penchant for substitutions. It's downright folksy (and I don't mean that condescendingly). I'm not feeling the country-kitchen decor, but I'll get past it for the coffee. Thanks for serving intelligentsia.

This is a breakfast place we frequently go to since our school is near there. I have always liked the service and variety of breakfast/ brunch/ lunch food options. I love their Egg Benedict and their different pancakes are always good to. The Lemmon Poppy seed French toast and pancakes are good.

  • Ashley A.

The is one of the better breakfast places in the area. Service was fast and food came out quick. I had the banana bread french toast combo with scrambled eggs and thick cut cherrywood bacon. If you like banana bread then you will enjoy this meal! Do the upgrade to the thick cut bacon. Def try the strawberry orange juice! My bf had the garden delight omlet and added the cherrywood thick cut bacon. It was what he expected, cooked perfect. He would prefer the San Antonio skillet over this. Would be looking to try something new next time. Overall this is def a place worth trying! There are some cheaper breakfast places if you are looking for price.

I never knew this place existed until this morning. I wanted to try a new place for breakfast and boy am I glad I got my phone out and found this place on yelp. The food was amazing. Everything is fresh. I ordered a skillet it was big and I had to take half of it home but was a very original. I never had anything like it. Now I HATE English muffens but it came with the skillet so i desisd to take a bite and i loved it. They make them fresh in the restaurant it even came with homemade jelly to spread on it! I got a free pancake from yelp and ordered it and it was one of the best pancakes I ever had!! I only ordered it because I wanted to taste it. I was full so I ordered it for my husband expecting to only take one bite but we ended up eating the entire pancake because it was so good. The service was amazing my waitress was very attentive. Even paying was enjoying if you can believe that. While paying the bill the man at the register saw there was coffee ordered asked who the coffee drinker was and when I sad me he offered me a cup to go!!! The coffee was pretty good. They make there own house blend. I will be returning and advise anyone reading this review to go here for breakfast. You will not be disappointed !!!

We just cannot go back here anymore. We were regulars, but since management changed over, the food quality has sharply declined. Numerous times I gave the coffee another chance, but it doesn't change. We've even asked about it. Their coffee has always been disappointing - a dilute, flavorless brew. It cannot possibly be fresh. Their tea is ok though I'm not sure how they store it because I've had stale tea too. Their servers are awesome. Always prompt, friendly, and attentive. I love the chicken decor and warm atmosphere. Their creative French toast dishes and hot cocoa are still very good. These are the positives. Last time we were served scrambled eggs that were so runny when you picked up a bite the egg white was dropping like mucous. 3 of our meals came like this. Their veggie skillet used to be roasted veggies and the texture and seasoning delicious. Now I think they pre-boil the potatoes and so they are soft and unappealing. There are other places, even in this shopping center that offer good breakfast food and exceptional coffee. So sad! This was a family favorite.

Super delicious and friendly service. Had the meat skillet and it was awesome. Their food is noticeable fresher and tastier. Especially the strawberry orange juice. That was incredibly fresh! Definitely will be back for more!

I should have suspected something less than great from the lack of cars parked in front. People in Rockford like to eat. Hoped for good coffee (based on reviews) but coffee was slightly below average. Menu was extensive, but food was...well...forgettable. Overall...LACKLUSTER.

Tried this place for the first time. I have always heard great things so I was looking forward to a good meal. I love the decor it is cafe style (as in the name). The food was fresh and felt light for heavy breakfast food. I got the Dugan Frittata (bacon, tomato, and spinach) and the specialty coffee for the day (crème brûlée). I love that I got a mug of the coffee and a carafe for refills at my leisure (of specialty coffee). The frittata was light and filling. It was not runny or soggy as tomatoes often cause that problem. The service was great. I was not in a hurry but could see others around that were. The staff seemed to work together well and adjusted service style to serve those in a hurry and those of us that were not. Since it was my first time here I took a great deal of time to review the menu. I did not feel rushed and the waitress was very patient. (If she was annoyed or irritated she did a good job holding it in). I did not see much for young kids so I'm not sure I would bring my toddlers here but will return. Great place for a girls day out meet-up.

Not being from Rockford we had some trouble finding the place. My GPS took up to the strip mall on the otherside of Alpine. We were close to just saying forget it when I looked a tthe Yelp pics and determined the front of the building looked like it could be across the street. Thank goodness for Yelp! First and foremost, if you have a fear of chickens, you should probably avoid this place because the decor is chicken overload. It's country and quaint, but it's too much. I guess it's a good thing I go to resaturants for the food not the decor... We were seated right away which was great, and we were immediately offered fresh squeezed juice (orange and strawberry orange). Service overall was excellent. I ordered the Farmer's Market Eggs Benedict with the Harbor potatoes. I though the food was good but not outstanding. The potatoes definitely could have been more crisp, and the hollandaise was just meh. If I lived in the area I'd probably come pretty regularly, but I'd probably try another place next time I'm eatin breakfast in Rockford.

  • Pat S.

We stopped in here for a quick breakfast, and were seated and served in a very timely matter. The food was very good and nicely plated. My Only complaint is the coffee, the difference between the regular and the decaf was amazing, while both were very weak the decaf was terrible. It can't be the water source as then the regular would be just as bad. I am all over the country in my job and get coffee regularly at 20-30 different places in the week, I would say this is the worst.

I love EHC! The service is the best and the food is delicious. There is a nice ambiance here as well. My wife isn't really I to breakfast good and even she loved her order. I'm going back to EHC next time I'm near one.

  • Keith B.

I have to disagree with all of the 4 star reviews. I've tried this place for lunch three times now and each time the food was ordinary, carelessly prepared and overpriced. Seriously, you get better food at a Denny's.

  • D B.

The food is good could use a little more flavor. However, the best features are the sexy male staff members. The front male host with his swinging and strong confident manner was refreshing.

  • Candice W.

Breakfast is great. They have great hostesses and wait staff. The banana bread French toast is to die for...I loved it. The veggie selection and healthy choices are perfect. My tea was served in a pot that had loose tea...very nice! Have been there multiple times since my first experience and each time has been very enjoyable. One thing that they should change is the fried potatoes, they are hard and taste packaged. Otherwise I love it.

  • Tina N.

Where do I begin? Well, service was friendly and the establishment was clean. That is about all the good I can say about this visit. I ordered the Bavarian Benedict & although the flavors were good, the food came out luke warm and the eggs were over cooked. Not everyone at the table was served at the same time and my duck bacon (which is very good) came out when I was just about finished with my meal. Others at the table had an issue with food coming out too. It was a busy Saturday morning & I understand that can be a contributing factor but I don't think busy is a new thing to them. I will give it another shot, everyone has bad days.

  • Ina T.

Ordered a traditional breakfast with sausage links...the sausage was of the pre-cooked "brown n' serve" variety. The "habour potatoes" tasted like they came from a bag in the freezer section - just because you dress up frozen foods with fresh chives doesn't disguise the fact that it isn't freshly prepared. Service was good, but there is nothing "eggs-traordinary" about the food.

  • AJ T.

The Egg Harbor Cafe Pancakes with whole wheat are quite good. They're an interesting texture; they kind of melt in your mouth, which is quite nice. I also ordered the Ultimate Skillet, and it was a touch salty, but overall I enjoyed it. it comes with a really nicely buttered and toasted English muffin. Coffee for a diner/breakfast joint is like $3, which I think is overpriced. Service is kind and very prompt. I'm a fan. Someone mentioned that there is simply room for improvement at this place, and I agree with that. I would come back, though.

  • Dree L.

I was very satisfied with my Egg Harbor Cafe experience. I called in to order, not knowing what was on the menu, but aware of what I had a taste for. The guy who answered the telephone was very helpful. I ended up ordering the very berry french toast, cheese grits with a side of bacon to-go. When I got there to pick it up it was ready for me, and my food was still hot when I got home. The food was delicious but the grits were AMAZING! I can't wait to go back and eat inside, the dining room looks very nice.

MmMMmmmmm...... Food that is as tasty as it's descriptions: [[ Winter in Italy French Toast ]] Rich and creamy cinnamon-flavored Italian cheese fills a white bread French toast stack, garnished with seasoned roasted apples, walnuts, raisins, and a drizzle of caramel sauce [[ Barrington Benedict ]] Grilled Canadian bacon and poached eggs atop an English muffin with our delicious hollandaise sauce. Served with Harbor potatoes. The potatoes were perfect. Perfectly crispy yet soft. Perfectly salty. Perfect. The portions were perfectly sized. The service was perfectly attentive. You have made me a believer in brunch.

I used to believe that I didn't necessarily enjoy breakfast food, and now I know I was terribly wrong. Perhaps it's just that I enjoy breakfast selections at brunch, or lunch, or dinner. In any case, Egg Harbor caters to my cravings for eggs and bacon and hash browns, and for the millions of times I've been, it hasn't failed me yet. I stick with the typical farmers breakfast, meats and potatoes. This time I got the harbor skillet, a great choice and finished almost all of it. I have also gotten the cinnamon roll French toast, and despite my claims of not enjoying sugar, this is one that snuck through my radar and rocked my world. It's exactly what it sounds like, a cinnamon roll, cut and cooked like French toast. And with proper amounts of butter and powdered sugar, it can be devoured, slice after slice. 2 sodas, eggs Benedict and skillet = $24, making it a reasonable meal. They will also let you take your remaining food and DRINK home with you. Fountain soda to go? Yes please.

Excellent food, friendly service, and good prices. Great combination! If you're in the area, and in the mood for a good breakfast, I'd definitely recommend this restaurant. Options are all over the board (pretty extensive menu), with something for everyone...and good healthy/healthier options as well. Tip: if you're a fan of hot chocolate, make sure you try a cup (served in a mason jar)...be ready though...it's RICH (but incredibly good)!

This place is always busy for a reason. Never been disappointed with the quality of food or service. They have great skillets, omelettes, French toast, and beverages (coffee and OJ options = amazing). The prices are pretty good for what you're getting. In a city with a lot of very good breakfast options, this place more than holds it own.

Best breakfast in Rockford in my opinion. Expect to spend about 8-12 dollars on your own meal. The wait staff is excellent and efficient! Try any dish that is to your taste on the menu as ALL dishes I have tried on the menu (and I've probably had upwards of 12 dishes) have been well prepared and delicious. The strawberry orange juice is a must try as its a fresh staple of theirs. The harbor potatoes are great and crunchy. I honestly don't have one bad thing to say! Enjoy!

We were on the way driving from Chicago to Janesville, WI and went out of our way to stop at this place due to the good Yelp reviews. They were right! Fast service, great food, loved the small, cozy, country atmosphere. We all had the lobster scramble and enjoyed it very much.

  • Jennifer K.

Fresh food, diverse menu, clean atmosphere, midrange prices. Server neglected to inform me of the specials but I would have ordered one of them (heard them being listed for a nearby table), buzzer in the kitchen was allowed to go off too often and for too long, mushrooms in my omelet were raw (pet peeve) and tomato was under ripe. We come to Rockford yearly, and we'll most likely be back again. It wasn't a negative experience, there's just some room for improvement. Overall I'd give it a 3.5, but it was not a 4 star experience so I'll settle for 3 on Yelp. Thanks to Yelp for saving us from IHOP though!!!

  • Jane D.

We have ate at Egg Harbor for breakfast about 5 times. The food is mediocre, nothing to call home about, and the breakfast potatoes are consistently overcooked to the point of being rock hard. The portions are small and the food is WAY overpriced for its quality. The service that is provided is bare minimum. Skip this one.

It is always nice to see a gluten-free menu with more than just a couple choices. The gluten-free pancakes were just ok. But all the egg dishes were delicious! It was nice that the waitress really understood the gluten-free menu and the severity of the allergy.

They are faster than Jimmy John's! All of our meals were delicious and the service was friendly. They even gave us free refills to take with us on the way out! I hope you like chickens, because there are literally hundreds of pictures of them, but it definately works and goes with the theme. It was an all around good experience.

Food is delicious, staff is always very friendly and efficient, as well as remembering my drink order each time. Great Breakfast place- rarely have to wait long for a table as the service is very quick.
