Yen Ching Mandarin Restaurant Menu

Yen Ching is one of the more delicious eateries in Robinson. And it enjoys ample patronage. Dinner is a busy time for this little restaurant with the fat buddha. Speaking of fat, my two year old nephew really enjoyed his noodles at Yen Ching. (See YouTube). We started with the crab rangoon appetizer (photo). A nice value with six rangoons. Cream seemed a little heavy for my taste, but the rangoons were crisp. Mom had the cashew chicken, her personal favorite and a nice looking dish. I had the garlic shrimp (photo). A very nice dish. The rice was somewhat clumpy, and a few dry areas. Not exceptional, but ok once mixed around the plate. Very large portions. Two meals from each menu item, unless exceptionally hungry. Tables are simple, as is the cutlery and tableware. Service is efficient and friendly. Normally, I would rate this restaurant a 3-4, however, the amount of nice food pushes to 5 five stars. Just a really nice value for some pretty good food in a small town. Well done, YC.

I've never had sweeter Chinese food before in my life. I did not like anything I ordered and would definitely not order the same things again. I would not ever go back here except for there are but a few places to eat in this Podunk town. If I ever do go back, I'll specify that they cook without adding sugar to the recipe. The hot and sour soup was even sweet. That was just disgusting. I'd have given this place a lower rating had it been available. Otherwise, the place was clean and service was friendly.

This review is based on service only. I called to see what time the restaurant closed on a Friday night and was told 9 pm. We had a party of 9 that arrived at 8:30 and were told that we would need to get it to go as they closed at 9. Really? You are open for 30 more minutes!! Turn your open sign off at 8:30 if you are going to refuse to serve customers in house after that time. Poor, poor customer service.

Awful service, and over priced food. I usually don't write bad reviews but had to on this one. Would not recommend to anyone. The counter people were very unpolite and not helpful at all.

Stopped in while in town on business, I can only go 2 stars on this one, unfortunately, mainly due to taste. The place was small, clean, and service was very friendly. I've been to my share of Chinese restaurants, and maybe it's an eastern IL thing, but good lord was everything SWEET. Not sweet as in "good," sweet as in ten packets of sugar in your small coffee sweet. Sweet as in your overly sweet Chinese grandmother stuffing three rolls of cotton candy in your mouth at once "sweet". I ordered Hot & Sour soup for an appetizer (which I consider a benchmark of any quality Chinese place--just my opinion) and it was more like Sweet & Sweet soup. Just guessing I bet there was about a tablespoon-and-a-half of sugar in my small bowl of Hot & Sour, when there really shouldn't have been much sugar (if any) at all. The ingredients in the soup looked and tasted like quality ingredients, the consistency was great, and so was the peppery heat, but you could barely taste the rice wine vinegar and broth flavors over the cloying sweetness. I ordered the Mongolian Beef in the hopes that it would be better. Now, Mongolian Beef is supposed to be slightly sweet in itself, but unfortunately this Mongolian Beef was very, very sweet (although not so much so as the soup). The beef was decent quality, and the onions were fresh, but we're talking serious sugar rush here. The white rice was white rice. If it's an eastern IL thing then so be it, but seriously folks, bring your insulin, you're gonna need it.

Best Mandarin restaurant in town! Food is always top quality and good portion size. The restaurant itself is a bit small and difficult if you have a large group or children. Servers are friendly and quick with their service.

I am not a Chinese-food afficianado by any means, but this isn't one of my favorite places to go when I do get that craving. The food is ok, and they have good portions for the price. I have tried a few different things, and each time find myself still craving what I am used to from the dishes. A lot of locals really love this place, so my advice would be to try it and decide for yourself.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
