They must have a shortage of babysitters in Riveside, as everyone brings their children here, strollers and all. I've never eaten in a place with so many kids. I hope the couple who were letting their toddler suck on the salt shaker told the server to be sure and wash it off. How utterly disgusting! It was refreshing to have calamari that was breaded and made in house, rather than the frozen variety you usually get everywhere. The white balsamic dressing on the salad was good, but the salad could have used a couple more ingredients. Shrimp cake was not bad. The grilled artichoke was very undercooked and had an unpleasant spice over it. The trout special was okay. Service was attentive. Delicious bread served with herb butter. I found it odd that they only have one selection of each wine by the glass. The upstairs room has sort of a musty odor to it. Perhaps it's the carpeting. Never understand carpeting in restaurants, especially with a lot of high chair clientele. The whole experience was a bit odd, with nothing to really draw me back. Just the pre-school ambience itself is enough to keep me away. If you do go, be wary of the salt shakers.
Wasn't too sure about this place based on the name, but so glad we went. Excellent service, nice atmosphere and very unique menu. We started with the mezze plate that featured some homemade pickled zucchini, feta, hummus, etc. It was a great starter. Everything on the menu was very tempting. I had the smoked gouda penne with chicken and my husband had a German sausage platter that was one of the evenings specials. The only downer for me was that virtually every dessert had nuts, which I can't eat, so we passed on dessert. Very lively bar area and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Looking forward to a return visit.
Had a stupendously delicious meal here with some friends over the weekend. The menu was not expansive but instead offered the things they were great at. We did oysters on the half shell, muscles, the wedge salad with rare steak, delicious fish tacos with corn and chorizo, the seared tuna, tasty flatbread, freshly made key lime pie and some crazy chocolate dessert too... a few drinks too and some fresh baked bread with homemade herb butter and best of all, our server was OURS. She was ON IT! Made sure everything was just right... never left us alone for too long... she was super attentive which to me seems uncommon at a restaurant at this price point. She was fantastic! A great meal for four that didn't empty our wallets. Can't wait to visit the Chew Chew again! What's funny is my wife and four year old son recently visited the Choo Choo out in DesPlaines... it's one of those old 50's burger places where the food is delivered to your table on a model train. Also, very fun! Yay for both Chew Choos!

Easy to miss, and easy to dismiss, but excellent standard Bohemian food. Roast pork and dumplings were both tender and moist, and excellent bathed in gravy. Sauerkraut was balanced between tangy and bitter. Kolacky made for a great finish to the meal. Standard but very clean diner decor. Would have liked to have seen more than two Czech beers (Pilsner Urquell and Brouczech), and fewer American macros, but you can't win them all.
Good food, nice people. It is a very small restaurant. The people were nice. Serving size was average and the food was not hot. It was nice to eat in a local Riverside restaurant.
I've had take-out here several times and I would compare this place to the likes of Westchester Restaurant, Bohemian Crystal, and Bohemian Gardens Restaurants. Portions are generous, delicious, and VERY reasonably priced. I have always looked forward ordering from this place, and would happily refer it to all audiences.

The service was great and fast, Blanca was super nice, efficient and quick, the food was fresh and great. I recommend the Chinese Spareribs and Firecracker Chicken
What I like about this restaurant the most (other than the food) is the staff. The manager is always smiling, and honestly seems happy to see you. And the staff is really great with kids. My daughter likes to try several different items before deciding on her order, and the staff never gets upset about the wait time. They even try to make suggestions to her about which items she should try and might like. I really appreciate that, as she and I have different tastes, and I tend to only order certain dishes. The food is never stale and never sits around for very long. Every time I've been to this restaurant, I see people cooking and exchanging old food trays with new ones. The eating area is always well maintained. A big bonus is the clean bathroom. I'm usually pretty skeptical about bathrooms in fast food places, but I can always count on the bathroom in this establishment to be clean. No one cares if I take a long leisurely lunch and read a book (which I normally do). If anything, someone will politely ask me if I need anything else. The portions are adequately sized; if anything, I leave completely full. I also enjoy the coupons that they give out from time to time; they always honor them and it definitely keeps me coming back.
I dunno. It's fine. Whatever. Orange chicken is a little fatty. Pretty much what you'd expect.

I have ordered a few times since my initial review. Each time the good food and fast delivery were consistent. Last night I ordered through Grubhub and the delivery man did not speak or read enough English to operate the intercom in the lobby of my building. I called the restaurant and spoke with a woman who was not helpful at all. She kept laughing, which may have been a nervous response, but was very annoying. She told me to cancel my delivery. The driver got in with the assistance of my neighbor who called up for him. I ordered Fish with String Beans and there was very little fish. Usually it's about 1/2 and 1/2 but this time it 3/4 beans and 1/4 fish. The food was heavily salted and I could not finish it. I had to drink 2-32 oz glasses of water afterwards to get combat the salt. Very bad overall experience. I will not order from them again.
GREAT TAKEOUT AT A GREAT PRICE! EVERYTHING is good here! The crab rangoon is always fresh tasting, the potstickers are a great size and very flavorful, and every chicken or beef dish my husband and I have ordered has always been delicious. They give you a TON of food, so you can definitely have leftovers for lunch the next day. You definitely feel like you get your moneys worth and everything is flavorful. Check this place out! You won't be sorry!
This place used to serve good food and their lunch specials were great. I had been going there at least once a week for several years because it's walking distance from where I work. Unfortunately, the place is under new ownership and the food is now quite bad. Sesame chicken used to be crispy and with just enough sauce but now the chicken is covered in sauce and is chewy and bland. Worst dish is the beef chop suey... it smells like an animal cage at the zoo and tastes just awful. Not sure if they are using old beef or bad sprouts or cabbage but the smell made me gag. I almost took it back to the place. Anyway, I won't be going back there anymore. Kind of sad to see a good place get run into the ground by inept ownership.

Love, Love Love Al's Pizza!! The stuffed with just cheese is the best I've ever had!! I used to drive from the city just to have it! The thin is pretty good too We usually get sausage + Mushroom! As far as the other food goes I would probably rate it a 4 at most. They are definetly famous for the delicious Pizza!! Must try!!!
This was one of the offshoots of the Al's in Cicero. I say "was" because they do not list each other on their menus - Cicero lists itself as Al's Italian Restaurant and this (and Woodridge) are Al's Pizzeria. And though there was really no difference initially when this location opened compared to Cicero, the Cicero location I feel has gone downhill. The flavor of the pizza itself is different. This location reminds me much more of the Al's I remember. It's hard to qualify what some of the differences are other than to say that if you've been getting it from the Cicero location and you think it has changed, it probably has. Give this one a shot and see if you agree with me.
The quality of the pizza was not necessarily the problem. The main issue with our experience with Al's and why we will never order from there again was the poor customer service after we called back to explain that our pizza arrived cold. We had a house full of people and everyone was hungry. The pizza took an hour to arrive, which wasn't terrible. But when it did arrive it was cold and everyone ate anyways. It was the day after a wedding and nobody wanted to wait another hour just to get pizza that was hot. We decided to call after everyone came to the consensus that we were disappointed that the pizza was cold. Who knows, maybe we'd get a buy one get one free coupon for next time. Instead, the woman we got on the phone claimed the pizza arrive in less than 45 minutes, and also claimed that they weren't responsible for the cold pizza. I had a house full of 20 people that disagreed. Anyways, the woman claimed we were bluffing and that we hadn't even ordered pizza because our phone number was not matching up with their system! After she finally found the order, and over 5 minutes on the phone, she offered a measly 10% off our next purchase. Unfortunately there will not be a next purchase and this could have been avoided even with a simple apology. Very very poor customer service.

Super fast!!! If you walk up to the counter be prepared to place your order. Cookies were good, fresh just like old times. However, I don't remember paying almost $2 per cookie....with that price point I will get my cookie fix from McDonald's.

Sooo, like other reviewers said, not the best, but definitely not the worst. I came in on a Sunday afternoon and placed an order for the Steak Jibarito and a steak burrito. The Jibarito was decent, plantains were garlicky, steak was not too dry or though, the arroz con gandules was a bit tasteless, but all in all it was a decent portion, decent flavor, and I would definitely return for a Jibarito fix. The ordering process was quick, however the meal prep and wait time was a bit slow. I waited a good 20-30 mins while they prepared the food. However, I understand that they have to actually cook the food and prepare after you order. So I had no problem with waiting. If you are in a rush and want a quick bite, I'd recommend calling the order in
So disappointed. I had such great food last time that I ordered again after a loooong international flight. 20min later they called to say they can't accomodate my 'no onion' request. (Allergy) I gave them the exact date and items I ordered last time (thanks grub hub!) and they kept saying "yeah, but I never heard of an onion allergy.' Ughhhhhh. Big boo. Biiiiig boo. It was so yummy. Anyway $20min and $5 delivery charge was a lot so I suppose I am saving myself $ in the long run.
Pretty good place for a jibarito. I agree that there needs to be more garlic on the tostones and jibaritos. We also got the potato dumpling with ground beef and the empanada with beef. I liked the empanada better. The arroz con grandules was pretty tasty as well. They had a whole section of ice cream up front. Looked like it might be home made. I liked the fact that they had Mexican food too. We got some elotes. That was very good too. I will definitely come back for more.

Been here last day and it was quite okay but there are a lot of things I want to note. They offer lesser food than expected because they are out of raw materials which is not good because I expected to have that particular beef with garlic sauce. Okay.
The Orange chicken was dry and disgusting, the crab ragoons were under ok but not horrible im never ordering from here again!! I want a refund!
These egg rolls are the best I have ever had in the United States. We always order 8-10 and use the coupon on the menu for a free pair. The pot stickers are also a treat so we always get appetizers from here. The lo mein is excellent if you enjoy this dish in the dry style. Twice-cooked pork is a delicious dish combining slow-cooked onions, Napa cabbage, and savory pork. Their Szechwan dishes are reliable and bold. If you are a chop suey or chow mein fan, try the House or Extra-fine Pork variants. The only pitfall of this place is the hit-or-miss fried rice. It is either good or a tad dry. China is gigantic. One establishment's lo mein, Hunan, or Empress may be very different from another's, with only a key ingredient or flavor in common. I find people get disappointed when they try their favorite dish at another Chinese restaurant and the style is completely different. This place has dry-style lo mein, very wet and breaded/battered Empress and sesame, and the Kow/vegetable dishes can have a lot of mushrooms. Sweet & sour portions are very liberal. The pot stickers are gingery. Specify or change your order accordingly if these styles bother you.

Restaurant was very clean & the biggest OG I've ever visited. Staff was friendly, there was no wait to be seated which is awesome. Our server was knowledgable of his wines. Ordering took a little longer than expected and I felt slightly rushed w our soup and salad. (He took my plate before I finished, then asked if it was "ok") food was prompt and satisfactory. One thing I found beyond unprofessional was a baby, yes baby, (1 year old at most) being passed around AT the actual bar (which is illegal in IL) between mom (who's an employee), bartender, manager and employees. Then the kid starts fussing so loud we couldn't hear our tables conversation. This went on for most of our dinner. On that alone, we won't go back to this location.
The soup and bread sticks are delicious, the waitress was super nice I had the tour of Italy and I like itbecause you can try the Alfredo, lasagna, and chicken parmesan. In which I love all three. Now with the taste it was good for not bring a authentic Italian restaurant let's just say that. Right when we walked in we were seated fast work no wait.
Still one star for this location! Corporate (when I complained) did give me a gift card to go elsewhere hopefully I will have more luck at another location!
