I worked at the Bloomington Schooner's when I was in college 27 years ago. Incredible food and a great place to work!
Nice little place, the decor is cool and the interior(ceiling and walls) are rustic. Cold beer, nice bartender, and friendly locals.
A Peoria classic!! My wife's and my fave place to eat out at! Never had a bad meal or bad service! I always get the onion rings (of course!!!) plus whatever else Stokes my fancy. Its all good here !! Plus the atmosphere is low key and never pretentious. I hate those places that if your a newbie they look at you and try to figure you out,and see if you are good enough to frequent their establishment.(any where on prospect in the heights) I LOVE SCHOONERS !!

Really nice ambience, relaxed, high end, but not stuffy. The waitstaff was courteous and helpful. The food was amazing! I had the steak salad and a side of Parmesan Truffle fries that were AMAZING! My friend had the Fish & Chips and he raved about them! The menu is small, which I think is a good thing. It doesn't overwhelm you, but there is still something for everyone. We had the homemade apple crisp for dessert and it was the "cherry on top" of a wonderful dining experience!
Great flavorful food. Specials usually are interesting. Wish they were open on Sundays!
Stopped in for dinner. Service was great, attentive without hovering. We had a pork stuffed apple as an appetizer. Every week they copy a Top Chef recipe, the pork stiffed apple was great. I had the tri tip for my entree. It was cooked just right and melted in my mouth. This is a beautiful bar that serves quality food.

"Best coffee ever!" - the person that often drinks gas station coffee
Classic breakfast sandwich: 4 stars, iced coffee: 1 star service: 1 star Staff seemed a little annoyed when I asked sandwich questions. Maybe it'll be better when I visit next time! Did not finish iced coffee. Maybe they are known more for their speciality drinks? Good Luck!
What the ownership of Leaves and Beans has done is nothing short of amazing. They provide great coffee and food for a great price. They have a carefully selected staff that gives great service, and the atmosphere is welcoming and cozy!! You are definitely not in a coffee chain store, and your not in a pretentious shop where you need to feel like a botanist to order a coffee.

Ive been here 5 times now over the last couple years. Pretty good breakfast. Nice casual atmosphere. Local favorite, most Sundays and Saturdays there is a short wait. Doesn't live up to the hype. Staff is nice. Food is good, but nothing special. Same menu items you would find at any greasy spoon. Eggs, bacon, toast, ect.. Most times I order eggs sunny side up, the whites are under done. Kind of snotty in texture. Could cook a bit longer covered. Other than that, everything else is pretty good. They do have Awesome!! biscuits and gravy. Cooked well with very good seasoning. One of the best I have ever had. Its nothing to rave about, but its not bad either. I would go back agian.
This place is awesome. Great food, and is the only restaurant my husband will stand in line and wait for seating. Best breakfast ever. Yes you have to wait for a table. The decor is basic diner, and is a bit noisy but no one cares. The food makes up for it. Forgot to take pictures of the food, inhaled it so quick when it arrived
Gebby's is my go to breakfast in town. Biscuits and gravy are best around. The gravy really makes it. Coffee is always flowing. Even the smell of the place makes you hungry. The food isn't unique, eggs, potatoes, bacon/sausage, etc. But the service, the manager always there (man doesn't sleep), the consistency of the food, it is all awesome. If you go on a weekend, you will be waiting for a table. We have a standing Friday morning meeting there. I actually get up extra early just to go for breakfast and to catch up with friends. Angie the waitress is awesome and brings us our drinks before we even sit down. Go. Just go. Then go back. Again. Best diner around.

The Other Dawg

4408 N Prospect Rd
Peoria Heights, 61616
Reviews:
This place is almost what a hot dog joint should be. Staff: Very friendly and engaging. Atmosphere: Clean, neatly arranged, cozy. Food: I had a Chicago dawg and a Polish with meat sauce. The Chicago dawg would have been better if it was a higher quality hot dog to begin with. The skin was not snappy and the overall texture was just average. The Polish was excellent. Snappy skin, firm texture, and not greasy. The meat sauce had a slightly smoky sweetness to it and just a hint of cumin which gives the flavor profile the nuance of a non-intrusive chili. Overall I had to rate this place a 3. If they upgrade the hot dog quality, this place will easily be a four.
The dogs were not the kind with snappy skins, but they were decent quality. A plain hot dog you can dress yourself with standard condiments was $1.75, so prices seem reasonable. They also had a variety of tamales made in Texas.
I don't really like hot dogs, but my husband does. I really like tamales, but my husband can take them or leave them. If only there were a restaurant where I could get delicious tamales and my husband could get a hot dog. Oh my god, there is one and this is that place! I can't speak to the deliciousness of the hot dogs, but my husband seemed pleased with the one he got. I can tell you that the tamale with sauce (meat sauce and cheese on a tamale, hey why not?) was divine. Is that an Illinois thing? To drench your tamale in cheese sauce? I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering. The two men behind the counter were so chatty and nice, too. Some people, especially New Yorkers, might be put off with two burly dudes behind the counter chatting up the customers, but I'm not from New York originally, so it made my day. And I love seeing my husband in action doing that thing that he does where he holds his own in a conversation about sports despite hating all televised sports. I don't know how he does it. He assures me it's part of the bro code and to not worry about it, so I don't. Anyway, to sum up: hot dogs, tamales, yum. (Note: there are only 2 tables and yes, they do have unsweetened brewed iced tea.)

Noir Tapas & Rendezvous Lounge

4606A N Prospect Rd
Peoria Heights, 61616
Reviews:
Fine, but needs to be tweaked. For a brand new restaurant, Noir has too many tables packed too closely together. The food is good and fresh and the menu offers a nice selection, however the paella wasn't particularly memorable. They've got a nice beer list and in the warm months the outside seating is a nice touch. If seated inside, pray that you aren't claustrophobic or need to get to the bathroom quickly if its busy because you'll be falling all over fellow diners making your way to the back.
My friend and I went to Noir for drinks and dessert. We were not disappointed. We sat outside, so I can't comment on the interior. Our waitress was perfect--friendlfy and prompt, but not overwhelming. She recommended the Tres Leches cake, and it was awesome! The Lemon Drop martini was also delicious. My friend had the creme brulee and Dreamsicle martini, and raved about both. It seemed like a nice atmosphere, and something you generally don't find in the area. I'd go back for the Tapas style dining.
Four of us ate at Noir on Saturday evening. Reservations were for 6 PM and we were seated immediately. By 7 or after, it gets pretty crowded and for good reason. The food is outstanding! Once the place is packed, it can be a little loud, as any place would be. The service was nothing short of great as well. We tried 6 or 7 different small plates and all were great with the only exception being the fried zucchini which was on the soggy side. Wine list is impressive for Peoria, but that seems to be common in the Heights, where most of the good restaurants in the area are located. We will definitely go back this summer!

Reviews:
Gave this place a try in search of our next Football Sunday home for the coming fall. There are a lot of TVs here but they are all kind of small. We were only in the bar so maybe there was a larger TV in the main dining room? We came to specifically check out the Bloody Mary bar and it was disappointing. The TNT brand mix was really tasty, perfect amount of spice and already enough worcestershire without needing to add more from the bar. Also, had Clamato, A1 and celery salt available. The garnishes needed help. First there were no tongs to get anything out of the canisters and then no tooth picks to put the garnishes on in the glass! Nice to know all the patrons were just sticking their fingers in all the containers! :( There were only pickles, tiny green olives, celery, pepperoni and banana peppers which is the basics but not what I imagine for a make-your-own Bloody Mary bar. The baked wings were outstanding and what saved our trip and this review score. Wow, perfectly cooked, super hot temp and really tasty charred on sauce! The Sweetfire is a little hotter than a medium but had great unique flavor. Also tried an order of the regular, bone-in Siracha Sweet & Spicy wings that were disappointing. Seemed undercooked with soft skin and the sauce was extremely sweet. One of the wings even looked a little pink so I didn't try any other flavors in the fried wings and the baked only come in mild, medium and sweetfire. The pizza was also underdone with a TON of cheese that was melted but not browned at all. It was good but the crust was an actual cracker which is thinner than I like my thin crust. I prefer a bit of chew and not just the crust shattering between your teeth. An inch of cheese on a cracker isn't my idea of amazing pizza. Our server was great, came by plenty of times for refills and more food orders!
We arrived here around 9:30 on April 11, 2015. We took our seats, and were waited on fairly quickly. A friend and I ordered beers, the ladies ordered some cocktail things from their cocktail menu. The drinks arrived a few minutes later. I got a guinness, which came in a smaller glass than the other beers on tap. It was the exact size of a bottle, which leads me to believe it is not on tap. She came back a few minutes later to take our food orders. We got a few burgers, a beef sandwich, and 2 apps between us 4. The waitress stopped back once more for drink refills before bringing us food. The food was all warm and pretty good. Their coleslaw comes with the burgers, but it is not too good. It is a bit watery and odd tasting for my taste. The waitress came back to check on us a few more times before we left, asking if we needed anything else. She did not take our empty plates until after we left, but she did have a broken/sprained wrist, so I can understand that. The music must have been on a jukebox, as the songs were jumping around. They do have a large variety of songs on the box, since it jumped genres quite frequently. My favorite was the jump from some rap song to some early 80's music. The bar also has a bunch of TV's, a dartboard and a golf video game The bartender looked a bit young to be at a bar, let alone serving at one. There were many underage kids there, although not drinking. For about half our time at the bar, there was a small child (~7 years old or so) there hanging out with his father. Not a crime, but it doesn't seem like a place to let kids hang out, with a parent or not. Overall, the food was good, atmosphere was pretty good, service was over par for a local bar. -------------------------------- Service - 4/5 Food Quality- 5/5 Serving Size - 4/5 Speediness - 4/5 Atmosphere - 3/5 Overall: 4/5 Suggestions for Management: Keep a closer eye on your guests. Underagers, especially children, in you bar is a recipe for disaster. Also, all of your draft beers should be served in with the same size. No reason a draft guinness should provide less beer, with a higher price than a blue moon.
Best pizza in peoria area by far, if you like thin crust. We usually eat in the bar as it is a better experience than the dining room, unless you want to talk. Expect a many tv type sports bar. This was previously The Penguin Tap, until the owner retired. It had a better pizza, the best I have every had. Although Tnt claims to follow the old recipe they don't fully follow it just the crust part of the recipe which is great. Too expensive but I will pay it occasionally.
