So, first off, this isn't a restaurant. So don't be misled. It's really just a kitchen along with a couple of tables for 2 on the side. If you're looking for a place to have dinner with friends, this isn't it. Although it says carry out on the building, I feel like I was misled by the other yelp reviews. Secondly, they only take cash! But the food is very reasonably priced. The quesadillas were pretty good, but I wouldn't say amazing.

This isn't some fancy candlelight restaurant however for being a one woman operation and what used to be the Glass Workers (the hall has been sub divided into several sections) banquet hall catering area Esther gets five stars. I had a chicken quesadilla with salsa (must get the salsa) while my daughter had the beef hard shell taco without lettuce, and they were both amazing. When you walk into the door you honestly will not expect much of anything, and almost wonder if you walked in the right door however the service paired with, quality will blow you away.

Sat and had dinner with Esther! How many restaurants can you do that at? The fajitas were tasty and the beans and rice were good, too. Good for authentic food...

You know those secret, awesome places you see on "No Reservations" and you wonder how they found them, and it makes you jealous because there aren't any of those places where you live? Yeah ... This is one of those places. A jewel. Viva Esther!

Esther is great and will cook dishes not on the menu, if she has the ingredients. The location is hard to find, and can use some updating but the food has been great.

Esther was wonderful to me, very friendly and made simple, tasty food. I wouldn't put it as the most authentic Mexican food I've had, but tasty and cheap.

I just wanted to add that I have an allergy to peppers and Esther always accommodates me by making me chicken tacos. I can't rave enough about how nice she is and the wonderful home made food.

What a great experience. Ordered the chicken burrito and it was amazing. Made with real chicken which she was pulling apart more for later. Came with homemade refried beans, Spanish rice, and pasta on the side. She even gives you another fresh tortia to put everything that fell out of the burrito into, how great is that. Will be my lunch stop whenever I am in Ottowa. Everything is home made authentic.

I so wanted to like this place. I am new to Ottawa and was excited to see such high ratings. We ordered take out for my son's birthday. We ordered a little bit of everything: tacos, burritos, quesadilla, tamale, guacamole, salsa to name a few. The owner gave my daughter a sampling of rice and sopa. She was really, really friendly. The two stars are for the food. I was expecting authentic Mexican food, the kind I was used to from my friend Maria and from the food vendors of Chicago. It was pretty far off. She uses flour tortillas. There was no corn tortillas for the tacos and no cilantro or lime. No chihuahua cheese in sight. Instead it had iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese. The quesadilla was more of a chicken stuffed taco. The tamales were the size of hotdogs. Everything was really dry and tasted unseasoned. My husband commented how the sopa tasted like chef boyardee's spaghetti in a can. The Mexican rice was so oily and tasted like chicken stock. I feel bad posting this but want others to know if you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, this isn't it. The only thing I can vouch for is the salsa. That was the only thing that impressed me. It might be 4.5 stars for the people of Ottawa, but really is a 1 or 2 star joint in regards to quality and authenticity of Mexican cuisine.

This is an authentic mexican restaurant and one woman show. She makes the best enchiladas. If it's not on the menu, just ask she will probably make it for u anyway.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
