A little hard to find as it is far from the beaten path, but fret not your adventure into Ottawas west side will prove to be fruitful. I honestly can not even begin to describe this place I have had there catering and take out in the past and never really considered it special until I decided to take a friend and dine in. The entire place is littered with interesting decor and clean as a whistle, the staff friendly and knowledgeable who could ask for more? What your not asking for more well you are getting it, inside is the deli complete and quaint with all sorts of extra goodies I can not even begin to get into and the dine in menu is complete not like the mass made catering or the little to go menus I have been presented in the past. If you are from Ottawa why have you not been here? If your from out of town give it a try you will be glad you did.

We needed someplace to grab lunch on the way downstate, and Yelp pointed us in this direction. Even though this place is a good three blocks away from anything of note, it still fit the bill. The Cheese Shop is on the north side of some light industrial buildings, and next to a store that sells indoor/outdoor patio furniture. Inside is a whole lot of kitsch, with random candy sprinkled throughout the store. Parents of kids that know how to walk and have a sweet tooth, beware! On recommendation from the girl behind the counter I got a buffalo sauce chicken sandwich basket (with fries and slaw) while my wife had a regular turkey and cheese sandwich. The quick summary of the meal is: good ingredients, cooked right. The chicken was nice and crispy. The buffalo sauce was primarily just hot, but went great with the lettuce and mayo in the sandwich. Buns were good quality. Deli meats were also of good quality. When I finally got the fries after a mix-up, they were nicely salted, a bit crispy but exactly what you expect from french fries. The slaw earned extra points for being just peppery enough to be great. I was happy with The Cheese Shop, and i don't think it was the Top 40 80's music coming out of the jukebox. Just good, well cooked, local food.

Yes!!! Finally, a good place to eat in Ottawa!!! I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a fish taco for my daughter and I. Freshly made and big portion on the fish taco. Pricier than I thought it'd be but worth it for the quality of food. The homemade chips are awesome. Thick and crunchy, reminiscent of kettle cooked but better. Missed 5 stars because the pulled pork, although delish, needed BBQ sauce and the slaw was missing some vinegar. The fish taco also needed a spritz of lemon or lime. Both had a spicy kick, which I enjoyed. Packed during lunch and is definitely a cozy eatery. Staff is nice and efficient. Will definitely be back!!

hard to find but well worth looking for. Bypass the chain eateries and try the delicious food at this home town treasure. Fries are handmade, Love their sandwiches and the Chicken tenders are wonderful enough for two to share.

You gotta hunt a bit to find this place, but it's worth the search. They have a wide variety of foods available ranging from appetizers to sandwiches to pasta to name a few things as well as a full deli and gourmet food shop. I ordered a "small" portion of tortellini for carryout recently which took me two sitting to finish, and I'm not a small man by any definition. I've also tried their sandwiches and soups which have always been excellent...

This place is awesome, it can be pricey for a deli but they serve both cold and hot food. It's a really great restaurant, everything is good and on Wednesday's the mosticolli is excellent. It's hidden, kind of hard to find at first but once you have you'll never forget how to get there. Try it, you won't be dissapointed.

I went here once for lunch with co-workers. It's fairly small and crowded over lunch time. I ordered the macaroni and cheese at the recommendation of others. I probably wouldn't get it again - it's more like a Velveeta cheese than real melted cheese. I did think the place was very inexpensive and liked that the lunch came with a small salad.

If you are in Ottawa, IL Please do yourself a favor and Stop HERE! At least get Cheese Curds and Vegetable Soup. Everything is always Hot & Fresh.

Quick and Yummy!! Deli style resturant is great for lunch. But also good for carry out dinner.

This place is so freaking good. Just the kind of food that's really bad for you but really comforting and delicious. I've gotten lunch/dinner there numerous times and had their catered food several times as well. If you're looking for high class, trendy, refined stuff, don't eat here. If you're looking for stuff that reminds you of how your grandma cooked, this place is for you. SO. GOOD.
