Don't be fooled by the look of the building and the thought that it might be a dark bar. Great folks and really good food. Even if you're not a drinker like us weirdos.
Very nice and clean, the food is delicious, we had the pretzels yumm, my favorite were the stuff mushrooms.
Stopped by again a year later and was rewarded with a fantastic late lunch. Had "The Horseshoe" upon the recommendation of the bar tender/waiter. So delicious! The fries are outstanding, service is great. Bathrooms are clean. What more can you ask for?

This place has potential. It's a beautiful old building with a great front porch and nice views. I liked our Door County room and the room was very clean and comfortable. I was a little disappointed with the grounds. The landscape in the front was overgrown. I think the backyard could have more flowers. The breakfast was just ok. My boyfriend's casserole was quite small and his toast was not toasted. I will try somewhere else next time.
We rented out the entire inn for a family weekend. The inn keepers Sharon and Kevin were very accommodating and eager for us to have a great nite. The rooms were spacious and clean. The outdoor seating on the front and back porch was perfect for a summer evening of relaxing. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. I would highly recommend Brightwood as a great place for groups to stay and enjoy being together for an evening or weekend.
We had a wonderful weekend in the at Brightwood Inn in the Mackinac room! We started off with a very nice gift basket for our stay. Sharon and Kevin feed us some fantastic breakfasts. For Valentine's we were also treated to some homemade chocolate strawberries and handmade truffles. SUPERB! The Mackinac room was very nice. You are able to see the sunrise and sunsets from all of the great windows. The bed and sheets were super comfy and soft. We slept like a baby. Add in some eagle watching and ice waterfalls at Starved Rock, it was a perfect weekend. Thank you Sharon and Kevin for a wonderful weekend. We will definitely be joining you again.

The gf and I were in the mood for ravs, but not storebought ravs. We wanted homecooked ravs, the kind of ravs your mom would make for rav night. 'There's a rav place with really good ravs nearby!' said the gf. 'A rav place?' I asked. 'Well,' she said, 'you can get ravs with nearly everything! Steak and ravs, pork chops and ravs ... even spaghetti and ravs!' We tried it, and the ravs were as good as she'd said: plump juicy delicious ravs filled with rav filling. We each had about twenty ravs, and there were still plenty of ravs to take back home in a box, so we could have a midnight snack of ravs. If you find yourself in Oglesby, Illinois, definitely check it out: this is the best place for ravs in this or any other state I've tried ravs in!
When someone says that a restaurant in my hometown area is "good," i generally scoff at the sentiment. But, I must say that I absolutely love and adore the meat sauce Garzanelli's uses for their tortellini. It's so flavorful just the right hint of sweet tomato that balances out the saltiness of the beef and I'm sure lbs of fat that remains in these dishes. I cannot pull myself away from ordering the ravs, as they call them, and garlic bread nuggets. My sister swears by the garlic salad, but it's a little too potent for my olfactory sense. We usually take it to-go and they always bring it out in a large box from some product they had shipped in. It's not the classiest of joints, but it gets to my sentimental side because it's so old school inside and I know that my parents friends used to go there a lot in the days they were still alive. Red and white check tableclothes that don't feel all the way clean and walls that are embedded with cigarette smoke and various knick-knacks and portraits on the wall. I get the sense that the family started this somehwere back when they were first gens from Italy (or maybe not). Plus, who can pass up a restaurant that still refers to itself as a supper club. How nostalgic.
This review is based on something other than chicken. I don't know why after reading all the reviews I didn't go with the chicken, but I just wasn't feeling like chicken today. The meal started with a salad, bread and butter. I'm not sure I would call it a salad. It was only lettuce, but I did get the garlic dressing, which was very good. The steak I had was just ok. It also came with a baked potatoe, that was good. The people were friendly, but it did take a little time to take my order. I think they were busy, because of the fall colors going on in the state park. I think I would like to return and try the Fried Chicken.

Was visiting starved rock state park and came across this place .. Really good food after long hike .. Highly recommended ... Authentic Mexican food
Friends stop here every once in a while for Taco Tuesday. They swore the tacos are awesome and $1.25 each.... So I gave it a try tonight because it's Cinco De Mayo, and they raised the price to $2.25 each? And they were the WORST tacos I've ever had- Stale, store bought corn shells that not only barely had any meat in them, there was barely any other filling in there either. Service was terrible. Beyond slow. Waited 20 minutes for chips & salsa. And the bar has ONE blender. So when a table orders margaritas, they are made one at a time. It took 15 minutes for us to get a round of drinks..... EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. There are WAY too many Mexican restaurants that are better than this place. Don't bother. I suggest Mi Margaritas, only 10 min away in Peru. - Better food. Better Drinks. Better Prices. Better Service.
My vegetables were barely chopped up and burnt on my shrimp fajitas. The chips and salsa weren't that great. Best part of the meal was the strong margarita. The music playing overlapped with the kitchen staffs music so it was annoying to even sit in the place.
