The hibachi is good. The staff is very nice and accomodating. The sushi is not the best. I have never seen a place that uses canned tuna in their rolls. They will substitute ahi if you ask. I love the udon!

I love this place! The owner and employees are super personable! The sushi and sashimi were very fresh and high quality! I have been there 3 times since the new owners took over. Everytime I am in the area I will be hitting Sakura!

The absolute worst spicy tuna roll I have ever had. I had to send it back. They waitress/manager didn't really care. The rest wasn't good either but I don't remember what else we had. I will never go there again! Sake across the street was way better. I would give less stars if I could.

Restaurant is divided into two sections. We went to the sushi bar side. Prices were average to above average for a sushi bar. Food was decent. Only real complaint I had was that the waitress did not know the menu items very well and had to go ask questions in order to answer our questions. This happened a few times. We would ask specifics about an item, then would have to wait while she went to get the answers.

Loved the experience. Great food and great value for the price. Would definitely return. Recommended!

So this place is more expensive during dinner then at lunch . Overall I would say it's decent only because of the price. This was the first location I went to while trying to find places that have good sushi . Oh and yes The sushi was delicious . Just not an all you can eat sushi bar which is what I was looking for. You will love their yum yum sauce

Visited the restaurant as 2 friends who lived in Japan for many years recommended it. They were correct in their assessment of the food. It was awesome, beautiful, prepared quickly, very reasonably priced. The rolls were huge and they had a big variety of types. The jalapeno crunch, angel hair and snow mountain were fabulous. We will definitely be back. The service was awesome and our server Casey was great. Give it a try, you'll be glad you did. Sorry we did not try the hibachi side this visit but it smelled heavenly. We may try that next time.

This place is alright. Maybe I'm so use to the sushi at tatsu but Sakura has gone downhill ever since it first opened. I'm aware that a few years back they changed its management. It was good with the new owners (current owners) at the time but the past few times I've been have not been good at all. My bf and I ordered 3 rolls and an appetizer which was almost 60$ and was not worth it at all. They don't use real jalapeños, they're canned. And the rolls were not rolled tight at all. We ordered 2 specialty rolls, something lobster mango and jalapeño one that were very bland. We also ordered spicy tuna that wasn't great. I may try them again, but not for awhile and will update if anything changes.

I didn't go for the sushi. I went for hibachi and a good time. The maitais I ordered were amazing. The food was fantastic too, even though they forgot my chicken. However if you want a hibachi for a good time this is not the place. The chef did absolutely no tricks. He didn't even flip the spatula or spin an egg. I almost wanted to rate it 3 star instead of the 4 because I feel like the appeal also includes entertainment from the chef. I was really looking forward to catching broccoli and sake in my mouth and wasn't even given an opportunity.

My review would have been 3 stars if not for the man cooking my friends' food. He was absolutely hilarious! I ordered my usual asparagus and avocado rolls with an edamame appetizer. It was quite scrumptious and I gobbled it down before anyone else had finished their meals. I'm not sure what it is about sushi, but I can eat a great deal of it and very fast. For a Saturday afternoon, I would have expected more people...but there were only two other people on the hibachi side of the restaurant. Overall, I can't say Sakura is the BEST sushi in this area, but for what it is and as close as it is...it's difficult to beat.

Found this place while on a business trip and I will be back for sure! Saint Louis definately has several Sushi Buffets...not my thing!! I found Sakura and glad I did :-) I was there on a wednesday and it wasn't very busy so that's ideal, since I can be the center of attention..lol I sat at the sushi bar and immediately was greated by the Owner who was quick to ask me what I liked..Good sign... He immediately made me this yummy cucumber sald that was nice and spicy yet kept me coming back for more! The variety of rolls were somewhat overwhelming but he really helped coached me for sure! I ended up with the Love Affair roll which was huge!!! And I had some fresh nigiri which was yummy too! He made several other rolls for to go orders as I was sitting there and gave me a piece here and there to try! It was overall very very tasty can't say there was anything that I didn't like!

This place is by far my favorite sushi place in the area. If you sit at the sushi bar you can order anything you want. My husband got a "Volcano Roll" that wasn't anything like it said on the menu, the sushi chef asked him what he liked and then chopped it all up and mixed everything in a mayo/masago mixture, then baked it...from what my hubby said it was the closest thing he has eaten to his favorite roll in Alaska. I was informed you can only order what you want like this if you sit at the sushi bar. The House soup is not so good, i love onion soup and this tasted very salty, a little like miso and seafoody at the same time. We were given a cucumber/crab salad appetizer for free from the sushi chefs. I'm assuming because we were the only ones in there. The waiter was great. I have no complaints about this place and will definitely think of it when i chose to go eat sushi.

Super fun place to eat. The food was great and the chef's are top notch. This place is quite a bit less than the others and just as good if not better food so save yourself some money and check them out. You won't be disappointed

I have been to this Sakura many times in the past. I went last night and the sushi fish (on top, the raw slices of fish) were a pasty mush and reeked of rotten fish. I paid and left and do NOT plan to return to this location EVER. It's unfortunate since it is just 2 miles from my home and sushi is my favorite (so I am WELL aware of rotten fish smell and texture, as I purchase sushi grade fish and make sushi in my own home as well)! I was completely disgusted with the quality of the fish. It was insulting to even CONSIDER serving such ROTTEN FISH to customers!

Tried to come Aug 4th, but restaurant was closed for remodling. Went back tonight, and there wasn't much remodeled--couple of booths gone. Menu radically changed--about 75% of sushi choices for dinner removed. I ordered tri-combo (three very basic rolls), and the wife order tempura bento box. After about 30 minutes of waiting, started looking around--sushi chef busy watching tv. The bento box arrived--wife tried the shrimp, I tried chicken...both cold. We summoned the server (all new by the way, almost the entire staff has been replaced during the remodeling, it seems) and had her take the food back. After about 10 minutes, a fresh plate came out...or so we thought. My wife noticed right away that the pieces we took bites out of were still there, just a bit crispier. THEY RE-FIRED OUR OLD ORDER, AFTER WE'D TAKEN BITES OF IT! Still no sushi to be seen, and we'd had enough. We left, and went to Shogun Steakhouse in Fairview Heights...superb service and food. We were regulars at Sakura...no more.

Fun atmosphere and decent food. The staff is great at keeping you entertained while cooking your food. My son likes to go here too. He thinks they are ninja chefs and will eat pretty much anything they ask him to try. It is good for kids and adults alike.

This place is ok. I had three different rolls that I shared with friends. There wasn't one of them that I thought was "great" or "memorable". The service was ok. Maybe it was just an off night to go here. For a weekend, they were dead.

So far OK , very friendly right when we walked in. Sat down & looking at menu prices seem fare for sushi. we got the onion soup & it was alright not the best, wife just go her roll & it looks amazing! Mine are just getting done so more to come on this review soon :) Went from ok to woohoo for me after my short review at the restaurant. here's why. the rolls we ordered came out and were AMAZING! truly amazing and my wife is hard to please sometimes at the sushi bar and she looked so happy and was extremely happy with the roll after tasting!.. i not only was happy with the rolls i got but it got extremely good when my wife mentioned a roll i enjoy from Alaska that is really hard to get made anywhere i have been anywhere else. The sushi guy (Pom is his name) was so friendly and when he heard my roll he knew i was stuffed so he asked me twice if really wanted him to make it... well wife made me get it lol, and so i ate the whole thing, it was sooooo scrumptious.. he even asked what i liked specifically and said he could make any roll i wanted with anything in it anytime! :) i really like it here and i found out that they are new owners!! so i hope people read my review and disregard any review prior to Aug 2011 i think is when they said they took over.. he mentioned that they brought in all new flavor and menu due to the previous owners just leaving and not leaving no recipes or training on how they use to prepare the food... overall this is a NEW restaurant with a same name... I give them a big NEW GREAT TASTE review!!!! try this place for sure if you want some Amazing sushi, fare price and great friendly people!!

I'm so over this place. I used to think it was comparable to that awesome hibachi place in Fairview but it hasn't been the same the last few times I've been. Server forgot my fiancée's appetizer and then brought it out way late one time. My edamame was overcooked the next time. Just the overall quality of the food and wait staff seemed different and not in a good way. The only positive I can say is that the hibachi chefs still are fun but I won't go back just for that when I can go elsewhere and get the whole package.

Once a favorite, now a place to avoid. The chefs had no idea how to cut, much less prepare fish. Part of our order was "bad", as in very old fish. This breaks my heart, because this was always a favorite spot for me. Awful, awful food.

We went here to celebrate a bachelorette party. We did the hibachi grill and the food was great. Most importantly, the staff did an excellent job making it special for us. Would definitely recommend this place for a fun and interactive meal!

This is one of the better Sushi restaurants we've been to here in this immediate area. Was better when they did Sushifest where you paid $20 and ordered all you wanted.

Originally wanted to go to Irma's Cafe, but they went out of business :( Sakura was the backup plan. My coworker and I ate on the non-hibachi side of the restaurant. We were unaware of the "SushiFest" special going on Wednesdays and Thursdays only, until we noticed the special on the laminated sushi menu; all you can eat sushi for $20, which includes Miso Soup and Salad. We both went for the SushiFest. I ordered three rolls at first, from the Regular side of the sushi menu: spicy tuna roll, avocado roll, and asparagus roll. Each of these rolls were great! For some reason, we never noticed the other side of the menu, which has the "special rolls" - I guess we assumed these were too special for the SushiFest. Feeling a bit conned - we were handed the SushiFest menu with the regular roll side facing up, we decided to order some special rolls! My coworker ordered the Rainbow Roll, which was freakin' huge, but he managed to man-up and eat the entire thing, even after eating 3 huge regular rolls. I was pretty impressed. I decided to try a unique roll, so I ordered the "Pink Lady," probably the most interesting roll on the menu. The Pink Lady had some interesting stuff in it: Tempura Banana Tempura Shrimp Spring Mix (lettuce with some balsamic vinegar dressing) Rice paper (instead of seaweed) Etc. I can't remember the rest. I just recall that the rolls were like frantically huge - 8 pieces all together. The SushiFest menu had a warning about being charged $1.50 per piece of sushi not consumed. I'm not sure if it was the length of time it took the Pink Lady to arrive - maybe my stomach finally registered "full" with my brain. Or, the fact that the Pink Lady tasted horrible - like banana pudding combined with balsamic vinegar, lettuce, and tempura shrimp. Yes, I'm not kidding - that's what it was like. Anyway, I could not eat the Pink Lady. I picked at a piece or two, then decided to mash two of them together and cover the mess with a piece of lettuce. This left me with 6 pieces at $1.50 each. I contemplated putting the extra pieces in my jacket pocket, but the Pink Lady is sort of messy. I decided to push my pride to the side and deal with the consequences of not being able to ingest basically any of the Pink Lady. I admitted defeat to the waitress and she reminded me about the penalty for not eating all the Pink Lady. I acknowledged that I understood. She took the plate away and I was left wondering if I would be charged for the 6 intact pieces or the 8 pieces (including the 2 that I mangled together and tried to hide under a very small piece of lettuce). She brought me the bill and charged me $9 extra (6 pieces). My weak attempt to combine two pieces and cover them with lettuce worked. Regardless, I still felt defeated. My coworker laughed at my inability to eat the Pink Lady and the fact I was charged an extra $9! Regardless of the Pink Lady and SushiFest incident, the sushi here was good and the service was good too. Avoid the Pink Lady though and order first from the Special Roll side of the SushiFest menu, before you fill up on the Regular Rolls! Cheers.

I went there for the first time with some friends. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was because our server said ever so quietly "if you were ready to order now that would make my night." We were obviously not ready, we hadn't even begun to look at appetizers. So when i told him we weren't ready he went to the other side of the table and began taking the orders of my friends that were ready. It upset me that he rushed us, but the great food cleanliness and entertaining chef we had made me want to come back for more!
