Really good food, just a little bit pricey for what it is.

This is pretty much my family's favourite weekend lunch spot. They have fantastic burgers and dogs which are not at all greasy like some other places, but juicy and just delicious. The place is spotlessly clean, and has good friendly service. The only negative thing I can think of is that it can get a bit noisy. We will be coming back a lot.

Great food! This was the first time I've eaten here and I must say, it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. The service was excellent and so was the food! The chicken wrap is to dieeee for! It's my absolute favorite item on the menu. If you're into spicy sauces, make sure to get the regular hot sauce with the chicken wrap or, if you want a kick with flavor, get the chipotle BBQ sauce with it. This is definitely one of my favorite "go to" places if I want a quick bite to eat on my lunch break. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a great chicken wrap.

The food was really good and the service was even better. Definitely a spot you have to hit if you're from out of town. The chili cheese fries are fantastic. Yum!!

Went here today as part of a group of 3, and ordered a jumbo dog, a hot dog with cheese, and a chicago dog, all three were prepared and brought to us in a very reasonable amount of time, friendly service all the while, and all three hot dogs were reportedly excellent. The cheese on the cheese dog was especially notable as it tasted like real melted cheddar cheese, instead of the generic nacho cheese that comes on chili cheese dogs at larger resturant chains.

The atmosphere often feels imported from NYC. Quickly paced and a bit intense around lunch time. The dogs are good and the milk shakes are amazing!

U-DAWG-U is one of the best hot dog stands in all of Chi-ca-go. The dogs are made in the traditional way that Chicago-style hot dogs should be made with Vienna beef, perfectly steamed buns, sport peppers, sauerkraut, celery salt, (no ketchup). The place is always clean, the service is fast and friendly. It beats Portillos and Superdawg any day of the week. The fries are great too! As well as the Polish Sausage and Italian Beef Sandwiches and other menu items. Prices are decent too! This place is overlooked and should be on the Top 10 Best Hot Dog joints in Chicago lists.

I could be called a hot dog expert. Of all the food in the world, I bet I have eaten more hot dogs then any other food. Hot dogs are different all across the country. I do have me favorites, and I can add You Dawg You to this short list. The dog was (I think) Vienna, hot and tasty. The bun was (I think) Rosen, steamed perfectly. They use (I asked) Merkts cheddar. So basically, they started with all the proper brands, and prepared them perfectly. I take my dog with Ketchup and onions. I been told it's weird, but it's how I like it. The dog was fantastic!!!! The French fries were good. Hot, salted slightly, and crisp. Very tasty! The pop machine is self serve which I really like. They serve coke products which I favor. Very clean place. Very convienent. Ill be back!!!

If I was writing this review solely based on the taste of the food itself, it would get 5 stars +. But, bc we had to wait over 10 mintues(closer to 15) for a chicken wrap, a burger and two fries, plus the price(over $21 for what we ordered, (no drinks), and for the fact that at least my food wasn't entirely hot, (we ate 10 minutes later, and my burger sat under what I guess was a heat lamp for over 5 minutes while my gf's chicken was being cooked), I give 4 stars. This is still a generous rating bc the food itself was fantastic. It was crowded when we were there, but we came after the lunch hour. It was very fast paced, which I don't mind, but there's a difference between working fast and working hard. A lot of ppl running around, taking orders, making food, ringing you up, etc... I would consider going back here, I just don't like it that when you're the hungriest, it seems as though the food always takes longer to make/come out. Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit on the waiting time, but not by much. Just know that, normally, I'd give less than 4 stars due to slightly overpriced food and a somewhat longer wait time. I'm not letting other reviews affect mine, (I never do), but I definitely want to go back here and give them another shot. Was definitely not a bad enough experience to not go back, we'll just see what happens next time I guess...

Top notch dogs and polish. 'Nuff said. But it's more than that. They have a great grilled salami sandwich that beats out Poochie's in Skokie. And the real specialty is their cheese fries. Not only do they use Merkt's cheddar(a must), but they put the fries in a cup, along with a very generous "dollup" of cheese and let it drip and ooze down into the cup becoming a 'cheese fries sundae'. Truly unique and truly wonderful. It is a family tradition, which was carried over from the original Mages in Skokie if any of you remember that place. U Dawg U is owned by Rob Mages. This place is the real deal.

I really like this spot. I have eaten here several times in the last few weeks and it was all tasty. I dig on the cheddar cheese for dipping my fries! Solid burgers and dogs. Staff is always very friendly.

best dog I have had on the north shore. Clean, extremely courteous and helpful, and very accommodating. Nice staff all the way around. Highly recommend.

On our way home from the city & needed a snack. Great place, clean, fast & friendly. Took time to assemble our dogs right. Grilled dogs when ordered, steamed buns... Hit the spot.

U Dawg U is a solid place to go for a Chicago-style hot dog or a nice burger and fries. The milkshakes, made with Homer's ice cream (the North Shore's best), are delicious, too. I'm a lifelong customer, considering that I frequented the old Northbrook location when I was a kid and lived nearby (like me, U Dawg U moved from Northbrook to Northfield), and I usually stop by whenever I'm home from college. Rob, the owner, is always super friendly, and the prices are generally pretty reasonable.

So bloody good. It's my "treat" meal. Jumbo char dog with Merkts cheese and Merkts fries. It's probably good it's not closer. Service is always great and even the ice cream is good. The chocolate tastes like pudding.

I've been coming here for the last couple years, and I've consistently had good food. Their hot dog never disappoints, and when I feel adventuresome and journey down the menu, I've yet to be disappointed. The people that work here are pleasant, and, unlike most hot dog places, this place is clean and comfortable to visit. Certainly a must visit.

Chicago style hot dog joint. Vienna beef. Toppings good. Fries crinkle cut cooked just right. Clean. What else to you want. Char dog is my favorite.

Being in the area, I was informed of all the New Trier High School (East, West, Northfield, WInnetka) legends. There are jerseys, autographed Wheaties boxes and photos, plus pictures of old NTHS basketball teams. This place feels like a great local "joint" that all the locals migrate towards for typical divey food. I kept it simple going with the Chicago Style Hot Dog. The person I met with on this sweltering day (100 degrees+) went with the double cheeseburger with cheddar. He said the cheddar made it fantastic. My hot dog was awesome because I got it "char grilled" which was the special for the day. I got two cookies to go because they looked so SOFT and CHEWY! They also have brownies, but I don't like brownies that much (food not the brown people Viva La Mexico). Two gripes about this place. It is SO HOT in there. The hot dog was good, but the bun was soggy. The reason I ordered a char grilled dog is because I wanted to avoid the soggy bun! The line moves fast, but they are a bit overpriced for my liking! I GUESS THAT IS WHAT YOU GET ON THE NORTH SHORE! If you want a quick, kind of expensive, but doable hot dog at a divey joint, go here. If I am ever back in the area I think I will go with a burger. I'd take Portillo's or Smokehouse in Wheaton over this place. I guess that's just the Western Suburbs bias I have.

Good hot dogs. Vienna dogs. Toppings were good, maybe a little too much celery salt. The fries were the crinkle cut type that I like. They were cooked just right! It's clean inside and a lot of tables. The price is a little high for a couple of dogs, fries, a drink. Over 8 dollars. People were nice and enthusiastic ! I will probably return when I'm in the area.

Perfect place if your looking for a great hot dog and fries!! I even enjoy ther soup and salads!! The manager is amazing and everyone that works there is very friendly. They have seating outside which I enjoy and plenty inside which isn't always the case at a hot dog place. It gets a little crazy at times but well worth it!!

Delicious food and great service. Pricing is right and food comes quick. Always packed with customers and it's easy to see why. This place fires on all cylinders. Highly recommended.

I've been here several times and I want to like this place, but there are a few things that keep getting in the way. #1 lack of lunch combos. Everything is a la carte and you can end up paying a ridiculous amount for average Chicago hot dog stand food. Attn mgmt - not all of us have north shore money. #2 chaotic ordering / payment process. When it's busy, it can be complete mayhem trying to order, receive and pay for food. People behind the counter are shouting at each other and on my most recent (and final) visit, the guy working the fryer didn't hear my order from the girl working the counter, and I ended up waiting 15 minutes for a very simple meal that should have taken 5 min at most. And I was not offered anything - they even charged me extra for cheese on their bland chili after my extended wait. Attn mgmt: get a point of sale system and get things organized behind the counter! This place has potential and is always busy, but I think it just shows the lack of competition in the area.

great hot dog joint get the chicago dog and enuff said. They use vienna beef which is my favorite for a hot dog place and trust me we needed a place like this in northfield. Burgers everywhere else were 10 bucks, and this is what a joint should be..good, clean fast food that everyone loves

A great addition to Northfield with a diverse menu for a traditional Chicago Style Deli (Hamburgers and Hot Dogs for out of towners). The Italian Beef was lean and not at all greasy, a nice departure. My wife had a tuna melt which was very good. They have an extensive heart healthy menu, which includes a turkey polish. I'd definitely like to try that next time. It was buzzing on the Saturday afternoon we went with our brood for lunch. Two flat screens to watch whatever your game is was also a nice touch. There was an upstairs area that seemed perfect for parties.

The spot to get my Chicago hot dog fix when I'm visiting home in the burbs of Chicago. The cheese fries are amazing too.

  • Lauren F.

I just went for the first time...the cheese fries, served in an overflowing cup with a fork, were delicious. The hotdog with everything was great and piled high, except for the pickle, which was covered in celery salt, I love celery salt but this was overkill. I have faith and will be giving it another try... The atmosphere is sporty but a little sterile and the people behind the counter are loud and talkative, not my thing, but it might be yours..at least they aren't rude.

This fast food is 5 stars alone... Great Chicago Hot Dogs and Italian Beef Sandwiches! The ingredients are fresh and there are plenty of healthy options if you are looking for such (turkey sausage, fantastic salads, etc). However what really makes this place special is the owner Rob... He remembers customer's names, works hard to ensure everyone gets exactly what they wanted, and remains incredibly friendly! The other quick food joints could learn a thing or two from U Dawg U.

Ever since the death of fRedhots, I've been looking for another dealer for my occasional lunchtime hot-dog fix. U Dawg U wins the election--but not because of their hot dogs. I wasn't aware of them until recently, but I've been going regularly, trying a lot of the menu which ranges from the traditional burgers-and-dogs-joint fare to nice changes of pace such as wraps, a turkey polish sausage, and a decent barbecue chicken salad. Sadly, there is no alligator sausage or reindeer dog on their menu, but that might be asking a bit too much. The hot dogs come out of a warming pan and feel a little soft. Everything else is cooked to order, including a perfect polish and a solid bratwurst. The turkey burger is a little dry but otherwise solid. The italian beef tastes great and is NOT dripping wet like some places serve it. (My dainty hands appreciate that.) The fried salami sandwich...well, let's just say that there are few pleasures in life as simultaneously sublime and deadly as a fried salami sandwich with mustard and grilled onions. Like the owner/manager said to me on the way out that day, "You can't do that every day, but it sure is great." Correct and correct, sir. The people are extremely helpful and welcoming. I think that they might be starting to recognize me, but in truth, the service seems to be just as warm whether you are a regular or a first-timer. Both the french fries and the sweet potato fries are perfectly cooked but sometimes leave a slick feeling in my mouth. I wonder what kind of frying oil they are using. It's turned me off the fries, but as a side-dish alternative, you can get corn OFF the cob (seasonally). Just add a little butter, salt, and pepper if the corn isn't quite sweet enough yet. And their fried mushrooms are some of the best around, not salty or too greasy and stand up well on their own, or you can use the slightly tangy white sauce that comes with. On top of everything else, they make a mean chocolate malt. I took that as a second choice when they didn't have the right ice cream to make a strawberry shake. Sacrifices. In any case, these guys will go into the regular lunch rotation despite the longer-than-desirable drive from my office location through the congested Willow Road corridor.

This place has amazing hot dogs and cheese fries. I've tried a hotdog with chili, cheese, onions, and relish on it. I've also tried the cheese fries - to die for, only if you loooove cheese, though! They are very cheesy...almost too cheesy...but DELISH.

Great wraps. My wife had a veggie and I had chicken. The meat had a nice grilled taste to it and the veggies were very fresh. Extremely helpful staff as well. I don't get to this area often but the next time I do I will definitely stop in.

I grew up in Skokie and was a habitue of U Dawg U when it was in Village Crossing, so naturally I was thrilled to see a new location open just a few blocks from my office. Rob and his staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the food is great! I haven't been disappointed in anything I've ordered, but I have to say my favorite things are the char grilled Polish and their cheese fries. U Dawg U is definitely a great addition to the Northfield area.

My family loves this place. Really good quality, delicious hot dogs, but also a huge variety of other things. If I can bring myself to pass up a hotdog for a healthier option, I like the teriyaki veggie wrap with chicken. Very clean, incredibly friendly service.

We loved this place when it was open in Village Crossing and we were simply delighted to see it move to Northfield. Fresh, fast food served the way you want it. Rob, the owner, and his assistants are best. This will become one of your favorite haunts; it's certainly one of ours! Enjoy.
