A great spot to get carnitas in the north suburbs. Their meat is well seasoned and the salsa is delicious. Make sure you bring cash. They have tables to eat in or you can carry out. Burritos are smaller than other places but their other options make up for it.

Found this place by accident one day with my boyfriend and has been our favorite taco place since. The restaurant itself is very nice and vibrantly colored just wish the location wasn't so hidden. The staff is really polite and there's a good amount of seating. It's great to have a place that sells carnitas all week instead of only the weekends! We are always happy with our orders and couldn't recommend this place enough! I recommend the carnitas tacos! It's perfect!

Came for the carnitas, and was not disappointed. Highly recommend the $12 take-out special, which will easily feed 2-3 with a pound of carnitas, a dozen corn tortillas, onion, cilantro, and your choice of sauce on the side (my wife and I have leftovers.)

yeah I went there , after I asked the person who answered the phone if they took credit cards. I asked in English and Spanish. she said yes. or si. I get there to pick up my burrito and there are 2 huge signs that say cash only. I was going to ask to make sure , but the signs were big. hope it tasted good.

Very yummy carnitas tacos. Better than average tacos. Not a beautiful place but the food is good.

So I had a SERIOUS taste for carnitas and real Mexican food. This place popped up on YELP and I have to say this place is THE BEST Mexican food in Lake County... Easily! Fresh food, meat and chicharrones everyday! If I could give ten stars I would!

Wow! This place is awesome! Swung by on a whim when I saw it as I was driving back to Chicago from a work project yesterday. Food was delicious and inexpensive, and the service was great. Seems like a real hole in the wall but they've got their stuff together. Can't say anything bad about this place. Try the steak tacos! OMG that steak was insanely good. It was smokey and crispy and tender at the same time. Amazing! And the pork gordita was crazy good too! Crispy on outside and hot and steamy on the inside! Not sure how they perfected that so well but they did, and you should try it. Restaurant is very casual. Just stroll in whenever. You can get in and out in 20 min if you needed to. I was there for 30-40 min and took my time. Easy and clean atmosphere. Staff was extremely nice.

This place has the best carnitas in Lake county. Their salsa is amazing as well. Plus you can't beat the prices. They do only accept cash but its well worth stopping at the ATM on the way!

Stopped in here after I picked up my car from a $700 plus service. For $6 a carnitas burrito eased the pain. Very nice balance of beans, meat and rice. Not 80% rice like some big chains. Beware the red sauce is very spicy, I liked it but some won't. Very limited English.

Carnitas and al pastor tacos not bad would eat them here again but thats all I would get. My bf got a steak burrito it was tiny and the "steak" was questionable... Nice guys tho.

I listened to Yelp and went for Mexican last week and I have not stopped dreaming about the flavors. I can't wait to go back! I had chicken tacos ($2 each) , my friend had the steak. So amazing and authentic! Its just a little hole in the wall surprise. I saw some others buy piles of carnita that smelled so wonderful.

Legit! And clean! Friendly staff. I like going on the weekends, they have a carnita roast.. I usually end up getting a pound or 2 - of just the meat - usually lasts me til Wednesday. They have carnitas during the week too but it's a $1 more per pound - still a good deal. Good drink selection including Horchata and Rosa Jamaica

I had a chicken torta. It was pretty tasteless and they are really sparse with the toppings. I bit into a piece and there were some sort of rocks in there that almost broke a tooth. Never again! Oh, and it's cash only which is kind of annoying in this day and age.

To Mundelein residents..you guys have a little gem of a joint tucked away in a strip mall up there. I live and work in the city, and love Mexican food. I eat it all the time at several fav places on the north side. My work took me up to Mundelein for a day and I saw this place while leaving so I thought I'd have dinner before the drive home. Hands down the best steak gordita I think I have EVER had. The meat was so flavorful and the gordita shell was super crispy and fresh. The steak tacos tasted just like the ones I'd eat at small ma and pa restaurants in Mexico. Absolutely killer flavor. The 2 guys behind the counter couldn't have been nicer. $2.50 per taco. Five buck average sized burritos.

The carnitas burritos are outstanding. Great blend of pork, beans, cheese and lettuce. I haven't even ventured to any other items on the menu because this is so good. I would only recommend for takeout since there is very limited seating. Prices are very good for what you get.

Tried this on a Sunday afternoon. Got the carnitas torta and al pastor taco. They were both good with good flavor. The torta could've been better (don't know if avocados or guacs are optional but personally, that's what I would've liked to add). The place seems great and will definitely try again to check out the rest of the menu. The only knock is that it's cash only because I was not ready and with whatever cash I had, these two items were all I could spare. ;)

When I first walked in, I was alitte confused about dishes they serve but nice gentlemen behind the counter was very nice to explain the different dishes since I dont speak spanish. Their chicken burrito and steak burrito was excellent and also enjoyed their soft tacos with corn totilla. It is not a fancy looking but defenitely satisfy your craving.

Our love for Carnitas Don Chuy and Don Chuy himself continue to grow! We are so happy every single time we go. They have removed most of the ice cream options from the restaurant, but still have some "paletas" in many different flavors. We love the food so much that we asked them to cater our twin sons' first birthday party. The food got rave reviews from all our guests, which included both people who had never had carnitas before AND people who grew up in Mexico eating carnitas all the time. Everyone wanted to know where to get the food again! They had everything perfectly ready for our party just as we asked. We were so happy with the food and the service. Don Chuy is so incredibly kind, as is his whole family who works there. He is always giving little treats to my sons just out of the kindness of his heart, and doesn't mind when they are running all over the place :) This place AND the owners are true gems, and we are so lucky to have the restaurant so close to us!

Best carnitas for miles! Don Chuy's has a simple and well executed menu. Pretty traditional tacqueria fare, but what sets this place apart is the quality and freshness of ingredients. The restaurant is plain, but very colorful (my wife counted 8 shades of paint) and impeccably clean, including the restrooms. We had an all-around great meal and will return to Don Chuy's soon.

I live in Mundelein, and I have been looking for my favorite taco/burrito place in the area. There are many good places in Mundelein, but the Carnitas at Don Chuy's are amazing, which sets them apart from all the others. In my opinion, the carnita burrito is the best in Mundelein, and the reason has to be because of the time they put into the pork, which you can see when they prepare your food, it simply falls apart, and the flavor is simply incredible. You can taste the hours it spent slow cooking. The owners and employees are very friendly, and their entire menu is very good. After sampling most if not all of the Mexican restaurants in Mundelein, searching for the best burrito, I have finally found the best! Get me two!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
