Fleckenstein’s Bakery

I live about 15 miles away from Fleckenstein's Bakery. Not really that far but I have a couple of closer bakeries. Lately, I have been disappointed with the bakery I usually go to. Things do not seem fresh. I had heard good things about Fleckenstein's and I saw on their website that they make Dutch apple pies, so I called and requested that they hold one for me. When I arrived it seemed like my pie was the only one left and it was still hot. It was for my son's birthday dessert, he is not a cake fan. It was delicious. After having it, my husband declared it the best Dutch apple pie he had ever had and we all agreed. I look forward to going back and trying some of their other products. If you are interested in trying this place out - you either need to get their early or call and reserve what you want. I picked my pie up around 10:45 or 11am on a Thursday and the place was out of donuts.
The absolute BEST buttercream frosting ever!!! If they sold it by the tub, I would buy it and eat it!! Oh yeah.....and the cakes UNDER the frosting Rock too! I also LOVE their kolaches.....they are amazing.....I'm drooling just typing about them. My only complaint is that they don't seem to carry them every day. If you pass it up when you drive by on LaGrange, do an immediate U-turn! You won't be disappointed!
I used to work here back in High School & can truly say it was a fun experience. They have such a high standard of quality & cleanliness you wouldn't believe it! Their strict code of conduct & discipline in the workplace stays with me to this day. To say that this is a family business is an understatement. It is truly their passion! Sons Ray & Ross have gone all out to keep their family's business up to date & thriving while maintaining the high level of quality that their founding parents, Bob & Joan, built their business upon in 1978. It was no surprise to me that they were expanding their bakery while other competitors in nearby Tinley Park & New Lenox were closing their doors for good. I think it goes without saying that their products are the best and with being made fresh, the same day, with no artificial preservatives..... Well, the early bird gets the worm. Those who do find themselves up early will be rewarded with a great selection of pastries & sweets. If there's something you really want, then I suggest placing an order a day or two ahead of time so you don't have to rush in there at the crack of dawn. If you need a specialty cake, don't hesitate. There's almost nothing they won't do, (in good taste). I hear that they're going to be opening up a new location in downtown New Lenox, near the train station, which makes it a great location to grab a coffee & doughnut before catching the train. My only hope is that people won't loose their appetite from the foul stench of the sewage treatment plant less than a block away!

The ice cream from this place is freaking dynamite! I've never had a bad thing when I've gone, but I'm pretty partial to the chocolate shakes. Those bad boys sure bring this boy to the yard! The thing that really stands out at Oberweis is the quality. You can go to a lot of ice cream joints and not really be a able to tell the difference if you were blindfolded, but I could ID Oberweis with only half of my taste buds functioning! I also have to give crazy props to the cookies they put in their shakes/malts. They are nothing short of amazing, but when you dip them in a shake, they are then promoted to life changing! Unfortunately, we don't live in the northern Illinois/Chicagoland area, so we have to soak up the deliciousness every time we come to the area to visit my in-laws. I won't lie to you, I feel like it's made our relationship better
If Oberweis had a root beer freeze instead of just a root beer float, they would be my five star ice cream place. When I go for ice cream, it is what I seek. Everywhere. I find it every once in a while and reserve five stars for those locations. A big plus to this location is the drive through. Sometimes you, or your wife, just need an ice cream fix and you need it now. The drive through allows you to do that. Meanwhile, I am off in pursuit of a Rootbeer Freeze.
VERY disappointed to see HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP in a lot of the ice cream. The Vanilla doesn't have it but about 15 of the flavors do (according to their nutrition facts). Super Premium Ice Cream? Maybe the price. It was about $6.75 for a brownie sundae (the regular size). The reason for 3 stars is because they do have good ice cream and the place is set up pretty nice. They have tables where you can play chess and checkers while you dine. If I wanted High Fructose Corn Syrup I'd save myself a couple bucks and go to Culvers.

This place was perfect!!! We stumbled on this place looking for an alternative to cracker barrel, and it was AMAZING!!! i had the country fried steak and it was hands down the best one ive ever had. My husbamd had the grecian omelet and said it was delicious, and didnt skimp on any of the fillings. Their diced potatoes were simply devine and the staff was super friendly. Food came out pretty fast and piping hot. Good prices and huge portions. We did not leave hungry.
This place is tiny and crammed with too many tables. It was very uncomfortably cramped and loud. The food was not very good. Everything was below average for breakfast food quality. Scrambled eggs, French toast, biscuits and gravy, we're all sub-OK
The food is a little pricy, but the quality is there. We often visit "The Nook" due to its conveniently close location. Their breakfast is pretty good and I would recommend a visit. The dining area is small, which really makes it feel like an actual "breakfast nook."

Best shrimp and chicken! Very clean and friendly staff! Must try the Lake perch and Fish chips and if you don't want it fried you can get it grilled!
Fresh and cooked to order. Chicken is also good.
Love their shrimp po boy! Excellent flavor, always made to order. Comes with fries and canned soda for a very reasonable price. Only a small amount of seating available but great for carry out or a picnic!

Great breakfast. Quick service. Huge portions. We had stayed overnight in the area, and found this place on yelp. We have now made the 2 hour trip back up there just for the breakfast.
This is yet another great breakfast find in Mokena. They are only opened from 6 -3 and it is crowded. Nothing fancy just a bunch of tables pushed close together. I ordered up the country fried steak and biscuits and gravy. It was great and the steak was huge. They offer many options skillets, omelets, burgers. The service and the food are great.
This is generally, a good breakfast spot in the south 'burbs. It's just really really really small. The service is just average. The quality of the ingredients didn't seem great- but the food itself tasted fine (although it was very oily!). It has a unique vibe. This may sound weird to say but, I felt like I was somewhere else in the country. Not really sure how to describe it. But while I was actually sitting in the restaurant, I felt like I was in in a small white town in the South during a different era. Probably not the best way to describe it? It wasnt a bad thing, it was just different. Anyways, I'd recommend it to people looking for a new, cheap, breakfast spot in the south suburbs.

Lazy staff, good food
Seriously don't know what the hell is going on with the servers at this place. The last 4 times I have been here they have been for shit. I asked for an Arnold Palmer and she told me, if that is what I really wanted, she would have to make it herself? Holy shit Batman, What the fuck was I thinking making you Do Your Job! So I said. I'll just have an iced tea! When I asked for a refill. (Because she wasn't going to bring it on her own) I was given water. The next time the waitress told me that she has three kids at home and a nice tip would be appreciated! A good server would have been appreciated also. But I didn't get that! What I did get was a 45 minute wait for a burger and a chicken sandwich as I watched everyone who came in after me eating their meal. I also would like to not have to go to the bar and get our drinks, because our server decided to give us the check because her shift was over and she wanted to collect her tip. Great food! Asshole service!
My girlfriend and I went here for lunch, and I have to say, I was impressed. A sports bar that doesn't serve terrible food, I was happy. Not only was the staff increasingly friendly as soon as we walked in, but even the waiter was an unbelievably happy person. There isn't much wrong with this place. I'm not sure if I can really pin point anything that was bad. It is a great place to stop in for lunch, although sometime soon I would like to enjoy a dinner here. The many had a decent selection of appetizers, burgers, and other sandwiches. However, we were here just for lunch, so i'm not sure what they had exactly on the beer menu. Its no tribes i'm assuming. ASSUMING! We started off with an appetizer of ten wings, which took no time at all to come to the table. The best part about it, that they didn't come instantly. So, you know they had to have baked them when they were ordered, not twenty minutes before we walked in the door. Now, I am not a big salt person, but I ordered a grilled chicken wrap that came with salsa and chips instead of the usual fries. The chips were AMAZING! So good in fact, I took them home because I couldn't finish them and ate them cold. I ate cold salsa chips.... think about it... I was, needless to say, impressed. With ordering an appetizer of ten wings, two entrees, a grilled chicken and burger; we were out of that restaurant in about 35 minutes.

Great place for breakfast and lunch- friendly staff and reasonable prices. I've been coming here for a few years, I don't know why I've never given them props on Yelp before.... going to change that now: Both locations (the one in downtown Mokena and the one on 191st St) are clean, bright, and warm. I always have been seated quickly with fast and efficient service. I have never ordered coffee, but the juices are all pretty good. Food items- no matter if I'm here for breakfast or lunch, I always try to get a cup of their soup. I love all the soups here- cream of broccoli is the best one for sure. Egg dishes are all great, the pancakes and waffles are great, and the bacon and sausage have never let me down. Definitely will continue coming here to eat- good food, prices, and service.
Visited the Eggcetera cafe after purchasing a groupon. The place is quaint and clean. We went on a Friday morning and were seated immediately. The server was friendly and fast. I ordered the cinnamon swirl french toast, a half order of biscuits and gravy, and my husband ordered a skillet. The french toast was delicious, but a bit overpriced for the three little slices that I received. The biscuits and gravy were homemade and delicious. My husband didn't have any complaints about his skillet (but really how can you mess that up?). Not sure we would go here again as we don't go out to breakfast that often but this was decent food with good service.
I am writing this about the restaurant on 191st, I didn't see that one in my search. Anyway, we stopped in here after an exasperating experience at The Egg and I... in which we ended up walking out. Here, we were quickly seated and almost immediately given huge glasses of water, our orders were taken and the food arrived probably less that 10 minutes after our arrival. The food and service were excellent! The waitress was attentive and friendly. I'll definitely be returning here.

Gem Goes to White Castle... When a craving hits morning, noon or late night, go to White Castle in Mokena, IL. It's the best, cleanest, tastiest & friendliest Castle in Slider Nation aka Chicagoland & is open 24-7 for your craving convenience! Pick up 1, 2, or a craver case of the delicious, flat, lil, signature sliders; a side of awesome, golden crinkle-cut fries; and an order of my fave mozz stix. It's the perfect ending to a night of fun! Not craving beef? Don't fret, WC has a cure for everyone's craving. They also offer grilled chicken sliders, fried chicken breast & fried fish sliders, fried onion rings, fried onion petals, milkshakes, fried fish nibblers (fish stix in nugget form) & the ever popular, fried chicken rings aka fried, "chicken-esque meat" in the shape of rings, highly-processed, but oh so effin' good! This White Castle also has a breakfast menu served daily from midnight to 10:30 AM with special breakfast sliders that include egg, bacon & sausage options, hashbrown nibblers & french toast sticks. Don't forget to get a cup of joe because WC serves it 24-7 & boasts having "Real Good Coffee." Face it you don't go to WC for fine dining & fancy food, you go here for fast, fine munching because you've gotta a craving that needs to be fed & only WC has the cure & is still open! You'll feel like hell when you wake up & hate yourself for eating it, but you'll feel like you've died & gone to heaven before crashing! So when a craving strikes, take a road trip to this 5-Gem WC & find out why Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle!
I was going to go to Wendy's at 2 in the morning. But I wanted to see the drunks at WC. I get inside and the place seemed pretty normal. Maybe because I was the one who was fucked up? I placed my order and the girl behind the counter said to another employee. I thought that it was going to be a lot busier tonight. What? The drive-thru has about 30 cars in circlling the building, and your not busy? Right! I had the #3. 10 on the slide, 2 fries and 2 Cokes. (Since that is the only soda that worked.) I should have gotten the case.
I went to the new White Castle at about 7:40 toniight, got a sack, fries and onion rings. The ttop buns on part of the order were dried out, fries ok, BK has better rings. Poor choice for our dinner overall.

Mr. Benny’s Steak And Lobster House

19200 Everett Ln
Mokena, 60448
Reviews:
It is definitely old-school ambience here. Frank Sinatra music playing in the background with really, really dim lights. I kept thinking "classy joint." Nice if you want to impress your date and blow over $100.00 on a meal for two. They have quite a few upscale items on the menu (baked clams, escargot, frog legs, osso buco, lamb chops). My surf and turf plate was $75.00 - market price. If you want double-baked potato instead of plain baked, you pay an extra $2.25. The double-baked was simply browned on top in the shell - no cheese, no bacon, no chives - just plain mashed potato. The vegetable that came with our meals was buttered corn, which I am not going to complain about because I love buttered corn, but maybe others might expect more from a $25.00-$75.00 plate. White zinfandel was $8.00 a glass. Soda was $2.00 a skinny glass with no refills. Then again, that is what I expected price-wise when I walked in. The lobster portion was pretty ample. The steak was a ladies cut (fine by me because I would not have been able to eat a larger portion) with a smoky flavor - good but not oh-my-gosh-we-have-to-come-here-again good. Flavor-wise I'd say the surf and turf meal was worth $50.00 tops. My boyfriend got the lemon shrimp for about $25.00 which he said was delicious. He also loved the fresh-baked bread. The butter was molded into cold hard rose-shaped patties - kind of a nice touch but my butter fell through the holes in the middle of my bread - yikes! Absolutely no room for dessert so I can't comment on that. What I really liked about this place was the owner himself, Mr. Benny, walked around to every table to introduce himself and shake everyone's hand and say to let him know if anyone needed anything. Now THAT'S classy. You can't beat customer appreciation.
