Oh how I love the small town Mexican restaurant's. El Zarape is a must go every time I am out near it. I'll be perfectly honest, the buffet is phenominal for hangovers. It's like a curative for the worst possible hangovers. The food is great and the margaritas are sweet delicious medicine for my hangover. The service here has always been good as well. Never have to wait too long or be hovered over. They are prompt with the drinks and the food is always delivered nice and hot. Oh, and FYI, the burritos are a good option if the buffet isn't up and running at the time you visit. PS- They have AMAZING salsa.

Cherry Cokes to Margaritas they have it covered and don't forget the Fried Ice Cream or Flan or Sopapia's for dessert!! Great place located on Rt. 251 in Mendota just before the north stop light on the west side. ENJOY!!

Our visit to El zarape for dinner was pleasant and enjoyable. The chips we're very fresh. The salsa was tasty. Our meals came hot and just as we ordered. My carne asada burrito was very good and filling portions or large. Service was excellent.

Let me start off by saying I don't like Mexican food (go ahead; shun the non-believer. Now take a look at how many stars I posted). Most Mexican restaurants don't have much of a "Gringos" selection, but this isn't your ordinary Mexican joint. They have an extensive selection of American food, and guess what? It's all good! We (read: I) like to start off with the cheese quesadilla. One word: HUGE! I could order this by myself and be satisfied. My boyfriend always gets the buffet when it's available so he's always in heaven when we come here. I ordered the chicken fingers and fries last time, and I'm almost positive the chicken is hand breaded. The breading is crunchy and delicious! The pièce de résistance would have to be their margaritas. I have driven through torrential rains to get one. True story.

Best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. It's delicious. They have the best rice and tacos. The servers are always nice. However, the inside is just not as nice as it could be, its not bad, just not great.

El Zarape may be a little on the pricey side for Mendota eateries but the steak chimichanga and the classic margarita on the rocks can turn any bad day into good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
