Food was good. Service was so so there was only one gal who was waiting on us and the other few customers but she was not real attentive. Wasn't to impressed with the whole package. Again food was good but honestly less then 2 hours after dinner I felt so sick!!!!! Overall it was decent

Stopped in for a farewell dinner with my family before my parents head to Florida. The atmosphere was somewhat beach-like, which is why we thought it would be fun to get them ready for some real beach and sun. ;-) Having eaten there many times in the moderate past (10-20 years ago), I was disappointed in the food this time. Service was decent, and fairly timely for a Friday night. Being Fall, we ate inside as the outdoor seating was no longer open, which probably helped manage the service. I ordered a fisherman's basket. Others in our group ordered a variety of items, from chicken to burgers. Mostly basing this review on what I tried, and can verify from others. My basket was not particularly good. The fish was dry and overcooked, and not a particularly large portion for the price. The shrimp were OK, not bad, and not good. Fries were excellent if you like them battered. I asked about options on the side, and she said it only came with fries. My wife ordered a fish dinner, and again, her portion was left in the frier too long. My mom ordered the same thing I got, and was able to substitute onion rings for the fries - why couldn't I? Onion rings were also very good! Apparently the burgers were decent, but those who had one didn't seem particularly impressed. They used to be huge and juicy, and it seemed they were overdone by the response. I'll probably come back because of the experience years ago. I'd probably suggest they watch the food prep a bit, and they should be a good standard for enjoying the river in McHenry.

Came across this place after a day of driving in Wisconsin. Parking is tight but we found a spot The patio deck was pretty large & we were able to get a table right along the water. The decor was fun-very tropical The drink special we ordered was delicious -some Hawaiian type drink We ordered loaded fries for an app-good but in prefer nacho cheese as opposed to cheddar but still good-next time I'll ask for sour cream on side & not the sauces that came with it too Menu was huge! Tons to chose from & everything sounded good. I got land shark burger-good but there was something about it that I was not fond of, maybe the sauce?? Idk My family also ordered a steak sandwich(she said it was just ok), chicken tenders (these looked really good & huge) & a small pepperoni pizza(it was delicious) The fries were good but not great -I am partial to meatier fries & these are thin & real crispy, the onion straws were good but after all the fries I had I was just done with all the fried food. Overall I liked it & I'd check it out again

The other day my band and I had went to this establishment and had an okay (being nice) meal, most of the staff was polite but that is the least of the issues. They proceeded to mess up all of bills and ended up charging me an additional $50.00 to my bank account at 10:30 at night, which by then we were LONG gone, upon contact with the manager, he assured me that my account wasnt being charged but in fact was a pending transaction, no matter what the case I still cant touch the money because ITS NOT THERE. Days later when I contacted him a second time to get my money returned he then proceeded to argue with me about how I have to wait for MY money. Being a former employee, I figured I would be treated with a little more respect but thats too much to ask. Eat at your own risk, the kitchen staff never wash there hands and the kitchen is not clean. Plus if you want to be charged 80 dollars for a 25 dollar check then be my guest.

Atmosphere is great but the food and service need some help. Also, have to agree with the earlier review, the bathrooms and the general cleanliness of the place need to be cared for. Great to go for a couple of cocktails outside though.

Really the only time to go to Vickie's is in the summertime. Otherwise, it's a dark smoky bar/lounge. The real draw is the patio, with it's large number of picnic tables. When the weather turns and the ice melts on the Fox, sit on the deck at Vickie's and gawk at the boats and boaters that float in for good grub. You won't go hungry...my best friend always orders the full fatty Sour Dough Italian Beef -- topped with mozzarella and hot Giardiniera, stuffed into a huge loaf of sourdough bread. Washed down by a cold beverage of course. The other items on the menu have all been good for us also. The service is a bit slow, but when you're out on the deck in sun next to the river with a cold one, it's more of a benefit than a liability.

Ordered ahead..ONLINE from my boat...and food was ready when I got there. BEST BURGERS Around..and very convenient. Now I can navigate down the fox river, ordered from my laptop and never go hungry!

Y'know, I got some love for Vickie's. I briefly lived in McHenry for about 2 months or so, and came here with some regularity. Inside it's your average dive bar, but the patio simply rocks hard. Nice, dockside patio where you can check out the boats going by, as well as the tube-topped skin cancer mommas and the dudes who didn't get the memo that the 80s are gone. (They would be the apex of hipness in Wicker Park.) Anyhow, their menu is actually quite extensive beyond your normal bar food, and is purty good too.

This is a fun place back in my hometown. It's a restaurant/bar on the Fox River in McHenry. They have a lot of docks where you can park your boat. They also have a ginormous patio that overlooks the river where you can hang out, enjoy the sun, and enjoy some nachos and a cold beer. The menu is pretty extensive for a bar, and the beer selection isn't bad for the area. There are lots of different sandwiches, appetizers, as well as some chicken and seafood platters. If you're out boating on the Fox River, definitely stop by Vickie's.

After such a disappointing try for my favorite meal of corned beef and cabbage, I decided to pursue and try one more time at Vickie Place I'm McHenry. Greeted and seated promptly I was hoping the rest of the experience would also be good and I wasn't disappointed. Jim the waiter was friendly and prompt. The chicken noodle soup was great and gave promise to a great corned beef and cabbage dinner which when it came I was happy. Generous portions of cabbage, potatoes, carrots and lean thinly sliced corned beef, (a genius portion of all). Dinner was hot and was the best corned beef and cabbage I ever had. Thank you Jim and Vickie s place. Will frequently return.

Not gourmet cooking, but good burgers, lots of beer choices, an outdoor deck on the Fox River, always enjoy Vickies. Worth a drive.

The food was traditional bar fare, with limited fish options, but the burger and fries and fried shrimp were solid. Kids meal selections were fine. But for a summer day, to eat outside on the river...Awesome. And the service was great. So 3 star food, 5 star location, atmosphere and service.

I enjoyed being able to sit out on the deck and my daughter had a ball throwing french fries to the ducks in the river. I wonder if they would have eaten my awful cod basket for me and covered the bill? Corona battered cod and Red Hook Ale battered shrimp. Sounds good, right? Nowhere in the menu was it mentioned I'd be gnawing my way through a leathery center--indicating the cod had been microwaved--or crunching through tasteless, overcooked shrimp. For $12.95 you get a single, thin, frozen fish style piece of cod, five measly shrimp and fries. Super disappointing. The wife had a veggie burger, which looked fine, and the kid had a personal pizza that, once again, also appeared to be microwaved as the plate was boiling hot and the crust of the pizza steamed. I enjoyed sitting out on the river but it's really more of a "get crazy drunk and pick at a pizza" kind of joint. Doubtful we'll be returning.

This is a great place for two things: appetizers and fried chicken. The location is easy to get to by car OR boat. It's on the far south end of the Chain, so the crown here is a bit raucous at times. The outdoor seating is pretty great, too. Not during the winter, though. And the scenery is good-ish by McHenry standards.

We take our boat on the fox river often and always pass this place so finally decided to stop in. My wife and I both ordered the "fire god" burger which was very very good........until about 2 am when we both woke up with sharp stomach pains and diarrhea. Ironic how we both got the same thing to eat and ended up with food poisoning. If i go anywhere and get sick, I'll never go back.

Few things I enjoy more than a hot summer day on a boat, and docking at a more than adequate waterside joint for cocktails and snacks. Such was the case I hit Vickies Place, in McHenry, IL. McHenry is perched on the Fox River, which runs into the Chain of Lakes, on up to outside of Milwaukee, and south to the Illinois River, which rolls into the Mississippi about 25 miles north of St. Louis. I'm sure most summer days Vickies is a mad house, but in the middle of a weekday after noon when we floated up, it was relatively quiet. The menu has something for every taste. I will caution you in advance, this is one of those places you are going to get OVERSERVED in the food realm. I opted for an order of rings as a starter, which came with three different dipping sauces, very tasty, big mistake, as all of the over-sized sandwches are accompanied by BOTH fries and onion straws. Could be wrong, but had the feeling the rings weren't made in house, but the onion straws were. Both were delicious. The fries? Those extruded things, I know they are popular with a lot of people, just not my personal favorites - I like to be able to tell fries came from a potato. I went with the Black and Blue Lagoon burger, cajun seasoned hand-formed eight ounce patty, blue cheese crumbles, and blue cheese sauce - served on the most incredibly soft butter-topped roll. Dressed with lettuce and tomato, with a great pickle spear on the side. Real crunch. The patty was quality beef, and the taste came through loud and clear. Couldn't get anywhere near finishing the plate. They have entrees, sandwiches, baskets, house-made pizza, and the ubiquitous Friday night fish fry. Our server "K.C." was affable, knowledgeable, and outgoing. Attentive without hovering. She's wasting her talents there. If you find yourself boating up the Fox, or driving the back roads of northern Illinois, Vickies is worth a stop.

The outdoor seating is good, can be a bit noisy since you are so close to a busy road. The food and drink selection and taste was very good. Service was attentive. The interior could use a face lift and the parking lot needs some attention. The parking space markings have worn away and people just park willy-nilly.

Great location on the water, but that's the only good thing going for this dump. The service is slow and very poorly organized. The food is a joke, nachos mainly consisting of chopped lettuce and a glob of cheese whiz. My vodka drink tasted like all mixer. When I told the waitress, she offered to get me a double, and noted I would need to pay for a double. My suggestion: eat elsewhere and drink beer on the deck.

A friend and I visited on a Sunday afternoon looking forward to the riverside seating and getting a nice late lunch. I got there early, staked out a spot and had a nice alcoholic blue-lemonade drink. This was the best part of the whole trip. My friend arrived approximately 15 mins later and couldn't find a place to park. She had to park on a side street further away. The restaurant wasn't even busy. The patio was pretty full, but the inside was completely empty. Where would people park on a Friday or Saturday night? We decided on an appetizer - the wonton rolled mozzarella sticks. These were OK, but not great. For dinner, we both had the crab cake burger. This was disgusting. It didn't even seem cooked. We've heard good things about the real burgers though, so we may be up for giving it another chance. Not a great initial impression though.

This place used to be great--it is easily one of the worst places to eat in McHenry now. Not only is there service slow as molasses, the food isn't even that good. Chips and Salsa taste store bought, Mojitos are NOT fresh, just a Bacardi mixture, and the inside is just dirty looking. The only thing is as going for itself is the outside, it is cute and very summery, but it is simply outdated. They need a new staff and a new menu, pronto.

We used to go to Vickie's a lot. The food was good, and it was a nice place to go on a sunny summer day. We went back last weekend, for the first time in a year. Good lord! What a change, and not for the better. The fries had a nasty batter on them, like the ones you get from BK. We ordered the wonton wrapped mozzarella sticks..they were awful. Nice and brown on the outside, doughy on the inside, and the cheese was not melted at all. I had the jerked chicken malibu...and the chicken was dry and tough. Not spicy at all. It used to be really good! My husbands taco salad was watery and tasteless. The bill for this very mediocre food was $33!. For an appetiser, a burger, a chicken sandwich, 2 orders of fries and 2 soft drinks. The bathrooms were filthy. The dining room is dingy and dirty. I don't know if Vickie's changed owners recently or what....but the restaurant is a shadow a shadow of what they were. What a shame.

Waste of space on the Fox River! The cool decorative environment is sunk by sub-par food and expensive prices. I have not had a decent meal there yet without kicking myself in the butt for stopping in! My recomendations on the river is Keifs Reef and Broken Oar for more reasonable and better tasting food. And after reading these reviews I have to say this place needs a Chef Ramsey to come in and turn it around. "Christ loo at ow many dishes are on the menu?" "This food tastes like it was cooked in a mircowave!" "YOU CALL THIS FRESH!!!" Oh dear - imagine what the kitchen would look like!

We stayed in town for the 4th of July holiday, and were looking for a place that would give us the feel of being at the lake house without the travel. Vicki's is located immediately off the Fox River, and has a nice size patio and outdoor bar in addition to the indoor restaurant. When we arrived we were slightly confused about the seating situation, and had to approach one of the waitresses to ask whether we should seat ourselves. It is in indeed self service for seating, so we headed out to the patio. The view isn't as picturesque as I would've imagined, but it was nice to be near the water and watch the boats. The patio itself and the indoor restaurant could use some rehabilitation - the whole place looks like it hasn't been updated or thoroughly cleaned in AGES. I ordered a bloody mary and was offered the "Bloody Mary Bar", which was a little strange. Lots of random foods/accoutriments to add to your BM, and a lot of the hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce looked old. Not to mention that I'm almost positive I only had a teaspoon of vodka in my cup to start with. My husband ordered a burger and I had a turkey flatbread. All in all, I would say that the food wasn't worth paying for - I could've easily made these dishes at home and done a better job. The fries seem to be dipped in seafood batter - think of the breading on Long John Silver's fish and you'll know what I mean. The menu does offer a large number of choices, so maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes. Overall, I would say that the food was mediocre at best, the service and atmosphere were decent. My husband did witness an altarcation between a waitress and the owner of the restaurant (or at least that's who he appeared to be), which was both comical and unprofessional. We will not return to Vicki's - we're on the hunt for another riverside restaurant with a good patio.

Food and service is pleasantly average, but popular because of location on river. Large menu. Nice deck in back if you are here in good weather.

Still love the food and atmosphere, and don't get why some others don't think the food, portions, and service are great. Oh well, their loss.

What a fun place! Located on the Fox River, they do have boat parking (which is awesome, because otherwise I'd never go). Once you walk up to the restaurant, it's seat yourself inside and outside. They have a good beer selection to start off with, and when you sit inside they bring popcorn to your table. Their food selection is pretty extensive, from sandwiches to pizza to steaks. I've never had anything there I didn't like!

TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! DO NOT PATRONIZE THE ESTABLISHMENT! The service here is the absolute worst that I have ever experienced. We walked in, sat down and placed our order. Then we waited, and waited and waited. After at least 30 minutes, our waitress said she checked our order and it would be out soon. 20 minutes after that, she said it would be out in 2 minutes. 10 minutes after that we asked to see a Manager. The "acting" Manager came to our table and made a bunch of excuses for the delay. She then told us there were still 3 more orders in front of ours! It appeared that other guests of the restaurant were not happy with their service either. Do yourself a favor and crumple up your money and wipe your butt with it rather than spending it at this DUMP! You'd get a lot more satisfaction out of that! You've been warned.

The food is "OK". The docks could use some much needed repairs. Service stinks. The bathrooms, especially the urine soaked curtain between the urinal and the sink in the mens room is disgusting. Bottom line is that the place needs a lot of work and better management to make it one that I would want to visit with any regularity.

On a mini road trip my friends and I stumbled across this place. Our goal was to eat near the river and it was one of the only places we could find. When we pulled up the place looked like a lot of fun.. a HUGE deck with lights, overlooking the water. We walked in and were a little nervous, we got there around 5 and the place was pretty empty. We decided to sit in the bar because it was way too hot outside after all. When we sat down, we were greeted by our waitress right away. She was very nice and seemed to be a girl from a small town. She suggested a drink and had a funny personality. The drinks were ok. They didn't seem to taste much different than alcohol out of a machine.. they might have even been? I had a bloody mary too, that was actually really good :) There was a lot of food on the menu to chose from, my friends ended up getting burgers and I got pizza. The burgers came out cooked to medium-well or more (not my preference). The fries tasted a lot like the weird burger king fries which I'm also not of fan of. Besides that, they seemed to enjoy the burgers. One had the Blue Lagoon and the other had Hidden Treasure. My pizza was good. I could tell that the pineapple on my pizza wasn't fresh, but it wasn't too bad. My friends who had the burgers felt sick the rest of the day, not sure if it was the quality, or just the fact that they were pretty much burgers that could cause a heart attack. Overall, the place is pretty cute for a boat stop or a quick snack.. it is what it is, ya know? Friendly staff and decent bar food.

Hey Vickie-CLEAN UP YOUR RESTAURANT! The place is dirty, tables are sticky, and the ladies room is disgusting!!

  • Paul A.

This place is absolutely disgusting. The restaurant's indoors dining area reeked like rancid oil. Even the water tasted nasty. The water tasted like they siphoned it out of the river. The burger tasted like freezer burn. The service was amazingly slow, especially considering the two of us only got burgers and fries and were literally the only two people in the place during lunch hour. The fries were OK, but tasted like they bought them from the Jewel freezer section. To top it off, the meal was overpriced for a simple burger and fries, no drink at $10+. Worst place I have ever eaten.

  • Matt P.

Scenery is great right along the river, but the food can be a little pricey for the quality. Stick to the mainstays and you should be ok.

  • Ashley M.

Took us forever to even her a drink let alone order our good. When we finally got our drinks we had to wait 15 more minutes to order our food. Drinks were nothing to talk about. Nachos were some tortilla chips with ez cheese, shredded lettuce and a spoonful of meat. Carribean jerk steak sandwich wasn't spicy and honestly had no flavor. Overall I wouldn't come again, despite the nice view of the river.

All around Vickie's is a really nice restaurant. The interior decor is nice, and the outdoor deck is great during the summer. While slightly pricey, the food is really good, especially the burgers. Staff is also very friendly and prompt. If you're in the area, definitely give Vickie's a try.

I should have wrote my review a long time ago as I've been a fan of Vickies for many years. Or, maybe, it just took that one server to get me off my butt to do so. I had dinner at Vickies last Thursday, with a couple of girlfriends, and was served by Jim. Not only was he our waiter, he was also doing the bartending. Upon arrival, he greeted us with a huge smile, introduced himself and proceeded to take our orders. Within minutes, we had drinks and our food. Amazingly good food, I may add. We were very pleased with his service. Prompt, willing to fill our pesky requests and one of the most friendly servers we've ever had. Thank You, Jim! I've got to say, never once has service been an issue. And as I already stated, the food, delish!! I highly recommend the Turkey Flatbread.

What a dump! Walked in on a Saturday afternoon and the sign said wait to be seated.... And thats exactly what we did. Waited over ten minutes while being ignored by the waitresses and staff. Finally we sat ourselves out back - Of all the seating and tables, there was only us and another small party of 4 outside. Another five minutes later a waitress noticed us and brought over menus. Another ten minutes goes by until we got our drink order taken. Another ridculously long 20 minutes went by until the drinks came. Next, we ordered our meals (4 of us), food came in a reasonable amount of time and was actually pretty tasty. Good food and a great view but the service was absolutely terrible. I actually feel bad for the poor owner who has a great set-up with terrible employees!

Run down dirty place with an unprofessional staff. Food is mediocre on a good day. Best thing is being able to be on the deck overlooking the water.

Sometimes I read these yelp reviews and I wonder if these people reviewing are comparing this restaurant to a top rated Michelin star restaurant. This restaurant is exactly what it sets out to be a super casual great burger joint. If your on the lake throw on a shirt sit on the patio, or if you want some ac sit inside and grab a burger, they have a ton of original topped burgers. Portions are huge, fries, and fried onions are great. They offer some other items if your not into burgers. Drinks are cold, and poured well. Not sure what people are looking for in a burger joint on a lake but if you are looking for somewhere to have a tasty burger in a casual atmosphere stop here food is good, service is friendly, portions are large.

The outside area is really nice and not overly crowded. The burgers are good; lots of variety. You get popcorn while you wait for your order. I recommend this place on a nice sunny day!

I would give this place zero stars, if I could. This is one of the very few times, that I wish I would've read the reviews before-hand. This is probably the worst place I've ever eaten at. My hubby and I are still suffering from food poisoning, 4 days after coming here. We also had the same experience as one of the other reviewers, waking up in the middle of the night with stomach cramping and we haven't left the toilet since. I don't mean to be gross, but there is seriously something wrong with their sanitation standards here. On another note, the nachos, if that's what you want to call them, were unlike any other, I've ever had. It should've been called a garbage salad, because that's what it looked like. There was no melted cheese....maybe a little bit of shredded cheese thrown on and it was all shredded lettuce...so messed up.....go elsewhere people. This place is a total dump, in every way.

Dumpy restaurant with a very nice outside patio overlooking the Fox river and parking for boats. The food was for the most part pathetic. I had a cheeseburger which arrived with a soggy bun and had an off-taste. I could only eat about half of it. My wife had some kind of turkey sandwich which had no more appeal than if we had made it at home putting sliced lunch meat on wonder bread with a liitle mayo. The only exceptional thing here food-wise were the wonderfully crispy battered french fries and the onion straws. They were REALLY exceptional. This place is probably ok if you just want ot hang out on the porch and drink. Apart from the fries and onion straws, though, I just can't reccomend eating here and likely won't come back.

  • Suzy A.

friendly staff, great menu, easy to get to, great decor Unfortunately the food was very disappointing - the burgers tasted mostly all the same, bland and made everyone sick. The Fire God burger was supposed to be spicy, you'd never know it. The fries were too crispy and onion straws were a nice change although they even were stuffed in the hamburger - I'm not recommending the burgers, maybe some of their other food is good. May go back if in the area. They have a soup that was like an Italian beef sandwich without the bread - tasty....
