This is a place I have enjoyed dining in, as well as take out and delivery. I am addicted to their pad Thai. I usually get it with shrimp but the chicken is also delightful. The crab Rangoon is yummy. Pad woon seen and pea pod fried rice are also popular with my family. They are always friendly and polite. Knowledgeable about about their food. Great to have such a google Thai restaurant in McHenry.

Delicious, fresh food that wasn't too greasy or salt-heavy. The atmosphere was pleasant, service was swift, and everyone in my group was talking about how much they enjoyed their meals. Portions were large and everyone had some food to take home (no problem by me; Thai leftovers are fantastic). If you come during peak times, you may have a wait, but I think it's worth it!

After eating dinner in what appeared to be a nice restaurant....I discovered a long black hair underneath the piece of salmon I had ordered. After nearly throwing up being completely disgusted (this hair had to be 7-8" long ) I pointed it out to our waitress who painstakingly finally told who appeared to be a manager or possibly the owner. He came to our table, I assumed to apologize but NO! He tells me that none of his cooks have long black hair so how could that have happened. Like my balding head or my girlfriends platinum blonde hair would ever be mistaken for an 8" piece of horse hair. Not only is finding hair horribly disgusting but trying to put it on me was very poor taste which was only surpassed by charging me for my meal too. McHenry DESPERATELY needs quality restaurants!

Awful experience last night - took 45 mins from ordering to get food - bones in chicken in pad Thai - lucky I got it and not my kids. - girl who can't have been more than 9 years old (owners daughter?) took order - younger boy with no shoes walking / crawling around floor - in and out of kitchen. - food was OK - had much better - wouldn't go back

Don't go in here expecting Chinese or Teriyaki; Thai food is as different from those as it is from fettuccine alfredo. Avoid the crab rangoons, not because they're bad, but because they're an American invention and you're not coming here for that. Things you SHOULD try: the basil or ginger beef, the drunken spaghetti (don't expect spaghetti), and the Pad See Ew. The beef salad is also absolutely lovely, though its flavours are a little more alien to the standard Midwestern palate than the other dishes mentioned thanks to the abundance of raw mint, and the chive dumplings are wonderful, especially with the accompanying sauce. For curries, I like the Panang (hard to go wrong with that one) and the Jungle. If your sense of adventure starts to fade, try the eggrolls; they aren't going to be what you expect from Chinese takeout, since they use more authentic flavours from East Asian cuisine, but they're tasty. Walk in with an open mind and no expectations if you've never had Thai, and you'll walk out a fan. As for the restaurant itself, it's clean and well-stocked. It is family owned and run, so, yes, the kids hang out there. They aren't loud or obnoxious, and if they want to do those things, they always go out on the patio to play. They're from about five ish to maybe ten, and are all the sweetest and most well-behaved children I've ever encountered (though they are still kids, so sometimes they do odd kid things. If you're going to have a problem with nice kids in the restaurant, then a proctologist might be able to help you with that stick). Service can sometimes be a little slow, but the longtime waitresses are very nice and usually try to do whatever they can if the kitchen is poky. The waits usually aren't too bad, but don't bring along anyone you don't like to chat with. Bubble tea is also lots of fun on hot days as long as you're a milk person; I like taro flavor best. For those wondering what a taro is: it turns out purple, the root looks a bit like a sweet potato, and it tastes a little coconutty and hazelnutty. The first bubble feels a little gross, but after a few sips you get used to it. Thai tea or green tea flavours are very nice, too.

Food was cold and not very good but the appetizers were just ok...parking is awful. The wait staff is slow and not very attentive. They have their kids at work there with them. Although they were quite and respectful, I felt sorry for the kids being stuck there. :( I would suggest to go elsewhere

I love this place! Best thai in the area for sure. Everything we have ordered had been great. However, the pad thai and Panjang curry are two of the best I've had. The crab rangoon is also one of the best I've had. Plus they deliver too, it's almost impossible to find good places that deliver to us! I highly recommend you try this place!

This place was once a great place to eat. Two tables of people in the whole place. They bring me cold food not once but twice. They put the tofu dish I ordered in the microwave. Ever had microwaved tofu?? It's nasty!!! Will think twice about coming back.

After bicycling I decided to find something to eat. I trusted yelp reviews, I chose thai as I love thai curry and, it was a good choice. Great food, best curry duck I ever had! And I tried lot of ducks :) half duck mean half, no bones only meat, very juicy and well done. I will definitely be back.

It took us a while to find the Green Peapod as it is set back from the street and at the back of a parking lot. We actually were seated in the Green Street Café which is next door before we discovered we were not in a Thai restaurant. The interior of the Green Peapod is large, airy, and pleasant. Relaxing atmosphere. While not bad, none of the food -- or at least our choices -- stood up to the Thai food we regularly have in the San Francisco Bay Area. The spring rolls were attractively arranged on the plate, but the wrappers were not the translucent kind we have come to expect at our favorite Thai restaurants. Also I was not too fond of the "omelet" which topped the rolls. My ginger chicken accompanied by a bowl of rice had very little ginger "kick" to it. DH ordered the drunken spaghetti and found it rather bland. In hindsight, he should have asked for spiciest version available. Several dessert choices but not my favorite coconut ice cream so we passed on dessert. All in all a decent meal, but just not what we seek in Thai food.

Great mix of original and traditional Thai dishes. Love the red snapper and the seafood pineapple fried rice

Lately we have been ordering take-out from the Green Peapod, and we are never disappointed! You'd be surprised at how many other places around town will either mess up your order, or you get your food home and it's cold/soggy. Every time our order has been perfect, the portion sizes were generous, and the food was delicious. It's easy to order from their menu even though I have a lot of dietary restrictions too. They are always happy to make substitutions! LOVE this place!

While the food is pretty good, the service staff and general ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. We still didn't have silverware when our appetizer came and had to ask for it after she walked away. Yelling children running around and jumping off chairs and tables (I assume these are the owners children or they wouldn't be waking on the bar top and stools). A waitress who charged us incorrectly for something and when we pointed it out she literally asked, "so, is it okay or should I change it?". And the waitress comes to pick up the completed credit card sheet BEFORE we're even finished with our food and wine. If I come back, it will be for takeaway - I won't be sitting here. Recommend the food though - but the curb outside is probably better for enjoying it.

Been in town for work the past 2 months, this place is great! I go every chance I get. Interesting beer, wine, cocktails, and alcohol coffee drinks. Do yourself a favor and order the Pad Thai, Crab Rangoon, or Curry dish they are Excellent

Took my mom for lunch today. I don't have much experience eating Thai but we thought it was good. We ordered off the lunch specials & had enough to take home for dinner. Soup or salad was included. We tried the Thai ice tea, it was interesting but one was enough. I definitely would go for lunch again. The food came out pretty quickly, only one waitress though. The atmosphere is nice, modern. It is family run, so I did see a table in the back with toys on it but no kids as others have complained about.

My co-workers ordered from Green Peapod for lunch. I had NEVER tried Thai food before. In fact, I was very nervous and almost didn't order anything. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to trying new food. My co-workers suggested the drunken spaghetti. I am hooked. I wish I could eat here every day! I would love to venture around the menu a little bit more, but for now, I am sure loving the drunken spaghetti with chicken. The crab rangoon is great, also. Love the tangy dipping sauce. I got carryout the other day after work and they gave me a take away menu. The delivery area is very confusing. Would someone like to explain it to me? I thought maybe a local could understand it, but my husband has lived/worked in this area over 35 years and he couldn't make heads nor tails of it. I'd also love some suggestions about other meals to try. Anything other than shrimp. I seem to have an allergy to shrimp - but not crab.

My family and I ate here at the recommendation of yelp and I was very dissappointed with the food. We felt that it wasn't a very good value for the money, my kids are NOT picky eaters and will try just about anything, but the food they ordered they didn't like and we all tried each others and were all dissappointed. Very expensive. When we left we ordered a small pizza.

Deciding to try Green Peapod was probably the best decision we've made since living in the area. The short drive is very much worth it. My wife ALWAYS orders the Pad See Ew w/ chicken & shares with one of my daughters. I try to order differently every time. The appetizer we've fallen in love with are the pot stickers (very small order- FYI)! All the dishes that I've had, I've loved. Here are the ones I tried: Green Curry w/ beef (very sweet and beef was perfectly cooked), Panang Curry w/ chicken, Jungle Curry w/ chicken & Rama noodles (peanut sauce) w/ chicken. The only complaint I have is once I requested spicy (4/4) and it came without any spice and I had to add a bunch of the spices from the spice rack (dry and wet options).

If based solely on the food this is a 5 star restaurant. Unfortunately we dined in and had to deal with the owners children running around the restaurant the entire time. Having young children running around and generally being noisy is not the way to attract people to dine in. Great food, bad dining in experience.

Took 2 hours for our food and only ordered a few appetizers... food was all completely cold, had sauces spilled over and tofu was very spongy not to mention with tip it was $59.00. I will never order from here again.....

McHenry is definitely lucky to have such fresh and creative Thai food right here at home. Green Peapod is our favorite local take out restaurant mainly due to how fresh the ingredients always are. Our favorite is the vegetable soup, the drunken spaghetti, and the bubble teas. This is one of those unique restaurants that has you craving more. Always very clean and friendly, too!

  • Alana T.

We love Green Peapod! With children with gluten & dairy allergies, this is one of the few local restaurants we can eat at or get take out from. The restaurant is clean, the atmosphere is nice and the waitstaff has always been friendly and most importantly, the food has always been great! There are two issues holding me back from giving 5 stars. 1. For a restaurant that advertises gluten and dairy free options, the waitresses have never been knowledgable enough about the menu to answer our questions wether certain dishes can be made gluten and dairy free. They always have to go back and ask several times. While I am happy they double check, its something I think they should be trained on. 2. I wish they had a child menu or would make half orders (at half the price) for children. They only make fried rice for children. It makes eating here cost prohibitive for our family of 5 when we have to order 5 entrees.

My friend and I went there for lunch today. We both ordered a bubble tea drink with our lunch. I got the taro bubble tea and she got the papaya bubble tea. Her papaya bubble tea tasted like perfume and asked if it could be replaced with the taro bubble tea. The waitress said that the owner refused to exchange my friend's drink to the taro bubble tea becuz my friend might not like that one too. We said that my friend tasted my taro bubble tea and it tasted fine. Still, we were told that the owner would not exchange the drink. We said that the papaya does not taste like papaya at all. The waitress said that the papaya flavor comes from a powdered flavor papaya. As you walk into the restaurant there is a sign stating voted number 1 restaurant. We left feeling disappointed that the owner could not extend an act of goodwill and ensuring that their customers are satisfied. We will not return to this restaurant at all as we now see how little value they place on their customers. I wonder who and how they can be voted number 1?

Absolutely loved this place!! Excellent service, great prices, clean, fresh food. I was thrilled to have been invited by a friend to go here on a double date one evening. Definitely wanting to return, will be back 100 percent! Plenty of healthy options, vegetarian items as well. I really think this restaurant is doing a phenomenal job at delivering high quality food which is fresh and fun.

So happy we found this place - by accident b/c we were at the brew pub up the street. Food is better than any thai place in the area. Great, interesting desserts too. Friendly staff, fast service. We got the whole fish and the chicken cashew - both were really good. Highly recommend.

It's been years since I've eaten here, mainly because I rarely eat out when I'm in the area, but this place still stands-out as a favorite. The Pad Thai is fantastic as is the Red Snapper (and I don't like fish!). Most of McHenry is all chain restaurants, so it's pretty awesome to see an independent restaurant like this do so well in little ole' McHenry.

  • Sean P.

Listen, I have seen a couple subpar views and one stating the food wasn't authentic. I have to completely disagree. I have eaten all over over the US and in some other countries and have tried Thai food from all over. Chicago had some amazing Thai, some of the best I have tried. The best Thai I had before this place was from a place in Chicago, but now I have to say that this place puts up a strong fight. The food is amazing, period. For someone to say otherwise, doesn't really know Thai food or have an experienced pallet. Give it a chance and be sure to try the Pad Thai and the spring roles.

  • Josh S.

The food here is fantastic. Quite the find this far out into the sticks. Trouble is, the service here is beyond bad. I've eaten here probably a dozen times and not once have I received even halfway decent service. Which is a shame, because if they'd fix that I'd recommend it far and wide. The pad thai here is the best I've ever eaten, so even if you'd normally turn your nose up at pad thai in favor of more "deep cut" dishes, you should give it a spin.

We have been going here for years and the food never disappoints. It is a family business, which I love, and we were even seated by the young daughter. It is very cute since she can't be more then 9 years old! Service is great, and food comes fast.

Pretty good Thai food for being in boo foo McHenry. Feel the price to portion ratio is a little off otherwise there would be a higher rating. I feel takeout is a better option than dining in as far as value goes. Try the pad Kee Mao.

This is THE place to get Thai in the burbs.. I've gotten a few diff entrees from here and they are always the BEST that I've had. Red Snapper with Chile Relish-- SO DELICIOUS and FRESH! The peppers gave a great kick and it was so colorful, really a joy to eat. Pad Thai - A huge pile of noodles and veg, all served with a delicious sauce and just comforting and yummy. Jungle Curry - In my opinion, the healthiest entree on the menu. It comes with a slurry of fresh vegetables, all in a spicy clear sauce with rice on the side. Tom Yum Soup - The quality of vegetables really makes or breaks Tom Yum Soup for me and this was great. It wasn't a package of frozen peas and corn tossed in the soup, they had fresh mushrooms, baby corn, all in a delicious hot a sour broth, and served beautifully!

I love the building this place is in. It is set way back from Green street with a few nice trees out front. The inside is nicely decorated to (track lighting...whoo) We went for lunch. I had vegetable soup which was basically fresh vegetables in a hot broth. Good stuff, a little salty but definitely fresh and not too unhealthy. My entree was the "cashew" with rice. Pretty good, not too spicy though (awww, bummer). The food was quite good. The service was quite slow. So be sure you are not in a hurry when you go here. Also note that there were stairs at the entrance but no ramp so I don't think this is good for wheelchair access.

Ok, I don't know how this place has so many great reviews... I finally gave it a try based on friends recommendations and the reviews on yelp. Like any Thai place I visit for the first time I always order the duck curry, as I feel it's a classic dish that serves as a great way to judge a restaurant. Before I get into the food lets start with the service. We were greeted and seated promptly upon arrival by a very friendly waitress, sadly she was not ours that evening. When our waitress finally came to the table she just stood there with a notepad and stared at us with a blank stare.... Ok I guess I'll start this conversation... I said hello and we both ordered a drink and some waters. I asked for a vodka tonic with lime, which obviously confused her because I got the same blank stare again. No big deal I tought to myself, she's young and probably doesn't drink, so I explained it to her. After about 10 minutes she came back with the drinks, this place obviously doesn't have a competent bar tender because the tonic water was as flat as the table and tasted like sh#* and the like was missing. Whatever I thought, trying to keep a positive outlook, I'll just drink my water. Ohh that's right, we didn't have water. Luckily, the nice waitress that sat us came by and granted us our wish for a couple glasses of water. At one point after the whole drink and water fiasco our waitress finally came back to take our order, at which time I ordered my curry. When the food arrived she placed my fiancés dish on the table and then just held the platter out to me. I asked if was to hot to pick off the platter, she said yes.... So I guess that was my cue to pick the hot plate off of platter... At this point I didn't care anymore and just grabbed the plate off of her serving tray, it wasn't that hot by the way. Hoping for the memory of horrible service and terrible drinks to be washed away by glorious curry I took the first bite... I'm sure you can guess how it was by the amount of stars.... I never had duck that was actually impossible to cut with a butter knife.... until now. Needless to say I will not be coming back, which is really disappointing because I was hoping for a decent Thai place nearby. Guess I'll just have to drive to another county next time. :(

Very good thai food, especially for McHenry! :) I order delivery while I'm at work and the food is always fresh, hot, and delicious! I have tried several of their dishes, but my favorite is the pad thai which is some of the best I've had. Chicken is moist, tender, and plentiful. Crab rangoon, tom yum soup, and spring rolls are all excellent. I haven't had a bad dish from this place yet! The green apple salad is also very good! Highly recommended! I would normally rate this place a 4/4.5 but since this is by far the best food I've found in McHenry, it deserves a 5 in my book.

We came here for dinner because of all of the good reviews, but I would never go there again. The Crab Rangoon were awful, worst i've ever had. they didn't taste like anything except cream cheese. Mini eggrolls were ok, nothing special. Beef Paradise tasted like the cheap teriyaki beef jerky you can get from the gas station. The Tom Kar soup was really unappetizing. Luckily our entrees were good, but it didn't make up for the rest of the meal being awful. I had the Pad Kee Mao, and the noodles were really good. The rest of the dish was ok, but those noodles were seriously killer. My husband bad the Basil Duck. It was ok, and had a nice heat, but not something he would order again. I would have rated differently if we just had the entrees, especially because the noodles were so good, but the appetizers and soup were just that bad. I don't plan on going back to this restaurant in the future. Maybe we just went on an off night, we usually have good luck with places that have good reviews on yelp, but the majority of the food was very disappointing. The people that worked there though were very nice and friendly, and the service was good, it was just the food that we didn't enjoy.

My Husband and I LOVE Green Peapod. It lets us eat out and there are still options for our small children. (Don't think Kids Menu, think chicken satay, cucumber salad, edamame.) I found that all of their "famous" Thai dishes are great. As a previous reviewer recommended, the beef salad is the best! Certainly my favorite. My husband loves the basil beef, it's also a favorite with my dad and brother. Other reccomendations include all of their curry, pad Thai and pad see ewe. They also have bubble tea, so if you are picking up a carry out order, get there a bit early to enjoy one! The atmosphere is perfect. sleek, but not too overdone. Staff is very friendly as well.

If anyone thinks this place has good Thai food, then they obviously haven't had GOOD, authentic Thai food. We hadn't ordered food from Green Peapod in about a year...we weren't too impressed last year but we thought we'd give them one more try. We ordered Lard Nar with beef and Rama with chicken, plus crab rangoon for take-out. The portions were small and only 4 rangoon instead of 6 or 8 like most other places. And it was $30! To add insult to injury, the food was disgusting. The sauce on the Lard Nar was watery and barely had any flavor and the Rama had frozen veggies (carrots & peas) in it, not fresh. The crab rangoon was the worst we'd ever had. We threw the last one out. We will never eat here again.

The Green Peapod is a nice diversion for that lunch time decision. Let's be honest, McHenry doesn't offer up alot of options for quality fast lunch. However, when you want something with some flavor and I mean flavor. This is your best option. I've been here a few times for sit down and take out. Cute place, lots of seating. The parking lot out front has about six to seven spaces if that, so look for parking in back. I've had the cucumber salad, crab rangoon, chicken and tofu pad thai and...my absolute favorite...drunken spaghetti with chicken. I can't get enough of that. Nice change of pace for lunch. .

Best Thai around IMO. I love this place, its casual, easy to park, they can serve Gluten Free too. I cant even begin to think of what to reccomend. Pad Thai, Lard Nar, Pot Stickers are to die for! Drunken Spahghetti, Scallops in Chili Paste. just all around easy to be at, and easy on the budget too! very reasonable price wise.

Best Thai place around, hands down. Not a huge menu, but everything you'd expect, plus some house specialties. Busy saturday night, but great, friendly service. Fast, but not suspiciously fast, and tasty.

Service was very good! Food was fair, at best. Food presentation was lacking. My wife's noodle plate looked horrible. Didn't taste very good. I had high expectations from reading other reviews, that is why we tried the Green Peapod. We will not return!

Though this place is a bit of a trip in McHenry, it totally rocks. This had to be some of the best I've had, even better then Thai Noodle Cafe in Libertyville, which is awesome. The Veggies were cooked to perfection and had a awesome SNAP to them. The Chicken was tender and cooked just right, and I requested fresh Ginger with the Garlic Pepper Chicken which they did NOT skimp on! Fried Rice with Veggies another awesome dish. Honestly, this place is Grrrrrrreat!

Not to diss any of the other restaurants in McHenry, but on the whole, I found most of the food in the area to be pretty bland - it catered to a mainstream sensibility. For someone who was raised eating local food all over the world, this was pretty close to culinary purgatory for me. Started by a couple of visiting University students who found themselves out of work after the dot-com bust, Green Peapod is an island of flavor in sea of bland. I only wish I had more opportunities to eat there when I was on assignment in McHenry. I didn't get to sample too many items on the menu, but those that I did were excellent. Their Pad See Ew is as good as any I've had outside of Thailand. On my first visit, several of the staff members watched me in amazement while I scooped on spoon after spoon of hot sauces from the condiment tray to my dinner. I'm pretty sure they were expecting me to run screaming considering the amount of hot food I consumed. They assured me that the next time I visited; they would prepare something "Thai Spicy" for me. The staff all seemed very nice and I know the owner's daughter was more than a bit surprised to meet a "farong" who spoke Thai. Green Peapod is definitely the location of choice if you are craving a bit out of the ordinary in McHenry.

Best Thai in McHenry county! Initially it would seem a little on the pricier side but truly is not for the amount of food you get, superior service, and upscale dining feel. We love the pad Thai and lard nar. We are never disappointed when we go here, and never go home hungry. This is a unique place for McHenry. It has so much to offer and brings a lot to Green street!

We've been eating at the Green Peapod for years. It's hard to say what my favorite it. The Green Peas Noodle with tofu is definitely one of my favorites, but I've never had anything I didn't like. The service is good too.

One of the few restaurants in McHenry that has gluten free options! I love the pad thai and mama's tofu! I've had many dishes from here and they are all awesome. Portions are gigantic as well!

Was spoiled, used to live next to one of the best Thai places in the western US. This place is pretty decent. Large portions, authentic Thai recipes. Great Curries and Noodle dishes. The Chicken Pad Thai is Authentic! Never have eaten in, always carried out and is very fast/efficient.

McHenry doesn't hold a lot of culinary wonders and a lot of the restaurants are either chains or kind of divey. I was shocked when I walked in to see how pretty this place was. This will be short and sweet: I got take-out tofu pad thai and it was delicious. I will be back and I will eat much, much more.

Since I first reviewed this place, I've had delivery from here about 5 more times and am definitely hooked. Their duck curry, tofu fried rice, pad kee mao -- all excellent! I am about to have their taro pearl dessert for the third time as well and looking forward to it. I did try to order their sticky sweet rice with mango (which is on their website menu) one night but was told they don't have it. Not sure if that was just for that night or they stopped making it altogether.

I'm never disappointed when I go here. I usually get the same thing, Crab Rangoon and Pad Thai with tofu! If you've never had tofu, try it in the Pad Thai you'll be hooked! The portion size is also amazing. I suggest take-out because the waiters and waitresses are nice but service isn't awesome. Go there!

I have never been dissapointed by the food here. The service is good, the place is clean. Everything tastes fresh. Their Pad Thai with chicken is the best I've ever had.

Real Thai food in.......McHenry?????? Growing up here, the most 'ethnic' food around was Plum Garden(which we LOVE). It's so wonderful to see some diversity in McHenry county. Absolutely LOVE this place!!! Every dish we've had here has been perfection, the service impeccable. From beverages, to apps to entree through to dessert, the dishes are exactly as described on the menu yet surprising at the same time. Our favorite dishes have been the crab fried rice, massumun curry(like a Thai pot roast-perfect for winter), ginger pork, and the basil fried rice. We bring family here all the time and the staff treats everyone like royalty. The glasses are never empty. Everything tastes so fresh! We go every time we're in town and often find excuses to go-a great dinner if you're heading to the drive in for a date. :D

My first Thai food experience and it was amazing! The Crab Rangoon had real crab in it (I've mostly come across the imitation crab) and it was in big hunks! The meal I got was just to die for, good heat but not overpowering. Added plus- there was enough left for lunch the next day! I highly recommend anyone to try Green Peapod!

After reading all the rave reviews thought we would give it a try. Sorry to say we were disappointed. The food was good but it came out luke warm. Service left a lot to be desired. The only time the waitress came to the table was to take our order and at the end of the meal.

Really good Thai food. Great atmosphere in a cute 'downtown' area of McHenry. Great place to stop for lunch, or grab dinner before a movie at the local theater (within walking distance). Ingredients always fresh, prepared perfectly with no overbearing flavor, and wonderful drink selection. We would go more often if only the kids ate Thai food... :(

I just moved out of the McHenry area and this place is one of the things I'll miss about living there. This is probably the nicest restaurant in McHenry. It even sticks out when you see it from the street. Great Thai food, really nice atmosphere and great staff. I went there on my birthday with two friends, and my friends mentioned to our server that it was my birthday. At the end of the meal, the wait staff brought me out a complimentary fried ice-cream with a candle on it and sang Happy Birthday to me. Depending on what day/time you go, it can take a bit of time for them to get your order, so be prepared to wait a bit. It's also a very short walk from the restaurant to the McHenry Riverwalk, and depending on what time of day you go, there is a really nice locally owned coffee shop next door, as well as a decent used bookstore and an old two screen movie theater across the street that shows current movies, so you could have lunch there and enjoy a nice afternoon in McHenry.

I lived in The City (Chicago) for over 10 years and Green Peapod is just as good if not better than the best Thai restaurants there. When I walked in and ordered to go, the girl told me it would take like 25 minutes but it only took about 12-15 minutes. The decor of the dining room was really nice and cozy. I ordered lard nar with the noodles CRISPY and they actually cooked it EXACTLY THE WAY I WANTED IT. This was a week ago and I'm still in shock because I've ordered this dish with crispy noodles in countless other Thai places (after getting it once this way and loving it) and no one seems to be able to get it right. My order also included an appetizer of chicken satay. It was NOT pink inside but I would have liked it cooked a little more completely. The peanut sauce was excellent. The cucumber side salad was huge - definitely enough for 2 people. I also got a dessert I never had before - some sort of Thai custard. It was good too but I probably wouldn't get it again. My only complaints were that: 1) chicken satay a little undercooked 2) I only live 3 blocks away and my food got cold pretty fast 3) I wish they had sticky sweet rice with mango for dessert like Thai Bistro in Crystal Lake.

I occasionally will eat here for lunch. I'm not a huge Thai food person, however the first time I ate here it was very good. They have a great selection of dishes and you can't go wrong getting the garlic and pepper (chicken or beef). Their food is always fresh and comes very quickly. The wait staff is very friendly and responsive to your needs. It is a very clean place and with lots of windows to light up the place naturally. There is never a wait and you can get in even during the busy lunch hour. Front parking can be scarce so you may have to park in the back. It's a great place to take a group for lunch because you can get in and out fairly quickly. They have lunch prices which are fairly reasonable and you can either have it delivered or carryout. It's much better than any other Thai food restaurant in the area. I highly recommend yo give it a try!

Went again with my family, and I had an amazing meal. We also were rewarded with a Ginger dessert that was AMAZING!! Thai is unique, and different dishes comes with interesting textures and flavors. I love it, I had the Garlic and Pepper rice dish with a little meat. It was very good. Updated 7/16/2011: Had the pad kee mao from another user review, and it was awesome!! Very tasty, ask for a little spice and it comes with a very nice kick!

The Green Peapod is a must visit in McHenry. They also do delivery to Wonder Lake which is awesome! I am addicted to the drunken spaghetti. Everything we've tried has been delicious.

Great lunch special. I only been here for lunch. The food is decent, not as good as the good thai food in a major metro area such as Chicago, but definitely great for the town of McHenry, which is a culinary wasteland.

This is THE place to go for Thai food! The ambiance is wonderful and the food and service is top notch. They make a great martini too! Try the appetizer sampler platter as you get alarge platter of many delicious appetizers for a great price. I love the curry dishes and the noodles too! It's our favorite place to go in McHenry.

If you happen to have the to live or work (i.e. Medela or Follert) in this brash town of 25,000, you may already know that your lunch (or dinner) options are severely limited. You have tasteless chains like Panera, Culvers, and McDonalds on major thoroughfares, and then you have The Green Peapod--an oddly shinning star in a culinarily dim town. The Green Peapod is 90% of what some of the really good Thai restaurants in Chicago are. Here are my recommendations: the Pad Kee Mao is fantastic. I like to order it with both chicken and tofu. The tofu is prepared perfectly--firm and golden on the outside, soft on the inside. And I have yet to be done wrong by the chicken. Ask for hot sauce. The red sauce is vinegary, moderately hot, and tasty. The Pad Thai is equally nice. Their curries are decent, but not to the level of their noodle dishes. Also consider their massaman beef curry--it's excellent, but I wouldn't order it unless I was planning to go family style. My only gripe is that they don't offer larger bowls of Tom Kha soup.

This is our favorite Thai restaurant around. I love their pad thai. My husband loves the garlic beef. We come here often and have never been disappointed.

I love Green Peapod! I go here often for lunch with coworkers; they have a great lunch special! The special starts with soup or salad, and I typically get the cucumber salad (the dressing is amazing). If I go with my Thai coworker, we typically get an appetizer or two (calamari and fish cakes). My meal of choice is the Pad Thai, although I've tried a few other dishes and they have all been wonderful. The food is fabbo and I recommend this place to everyone. The service is typical of thai restaurants (they do not hurry you!). I think I would go here every day for lunch if I could... Can I?

My favorite restaurant in McHenry by far. Green Peas Curry is delicious! And if you want something sweet be sure to try the Thai Iced Tea!

Good for take out and sit down. So glad to have found a good thai restaurant. I recommend their curry dishes, mama's tofu, pad thai, but most importantly, try their taro pearl dessert, drenched in a coconut milk sauce.

I live in the city and this is really as good as it gets. They never skimpon presentation, service is always good, atmosphere is fantastic. Most importantly the food is ALWAYS consistant and delicious. When I lived i McHenry I would order everyother day for lunch and it was always consistant and DELICIOUS. This place is AMAZING.

Loves this place! Food is excellent and service is great! I love Thai food, love making it at home, but it's nice to be treated at a restaurant and there are not many Thai places around. I love sitting on the front porch of this restaurant, the only complaint I have is that the seats are uncomfortable outside. Inside is great, nice light airy decor, simple yet stunning! BTW... why do people have to qualify themselves first with statements like "I used to live in the city...", "I am a foodie...", etc etc etc. I think people from the McHenry county area can be just as good at judging food than the rest of the world. Be proud McHenry-ites!

Having lived in Chicago for many years I thought McHenry would be devoid of Thai food. I was surprised to find that the GP was very good. Dining options are limited in McHenry, to say the least, so give this place a shot. Stick with the entree's. The appetizers were average. The owners have a sweet young girl but she'll talk your ears off if you let her. She pretty much ruined one of our dinners there.

If you work way out in the 'burbs like some of us, you're either stuck with a Lean Cuisine, YUCK company cafeteria food or, IF you're lucky, a hungry coworker will make space for you in their car to go to Green Peapod for lunch. It's relatively cheap, really fast and pretty fresh Thai. Makes great leftovers too.

Let me start off by explaining that I am a regular. I was won over by this great resturant becuase they absolutely crushed anywhere else when it comes to Panang Curry. I have meandered into other dishes on there menu with great satisfaction, but you always come back to your first love. Although I mostly carry out, I have many times experienced there resturant. It is, like its Chinese neighbors to the west(Plum Garden), a wonderful place to dine in. The atmosphere is great, the wait staff is competent, and they make some wicked strange smoothie type drinks to completement your meal, or leave you confused... are those tapioca beads or peas? A local jewel, and lets hope they stick around like Plum Garden.

Fairly new to the area, and I have been looking for good places to eat. Green Peapod is the best I've found so far in the area especially for asian cuisine. Pad Thai, fried rice, and the green peapod curry are all great

Excellent Thai food, in the middle of McHenry. Very nice interior, kinda upscale but very small. I recommend the pot stickers, crab rangoon, basil fried rice, & mussanmun curry.

There is actually Thai food in Wisconsin?!?! Ok McHenry locals dont get offended, but you guys are really close to the border! :) I was actually surprised to find a Thai joint when I was visiting a friend out here. I was really excited thinking I might have found a diamond in a piece of cheese out here. Haha..I know kinda Cheezy! LOL Watch out im on a roll! Anyways, ordered take out here since it was almost time to close. Ordered the Pad See Ew w/ chicken and asked for it to be spicy. Had to make my meal exciting bc we all know PSE never has a kick! Well I was very happy to see when I opened my to go container is that they either used a crushed red pepper or a chili paste to give it the heat. I felt generous so thats why they got a 4 or I would have given a 3.5 if it was possible. But some Thai places just try to use fresh jalepenos which tends to overpower the flavor of the food, also feel that is the cheaper route. I do have to say this place definitely beat the standards that I put it at. Its not very often that I joureny out to McHenry but if I do I would def come here again for some decent Thai food. I was able to get dinner (last night) and lunch (today) out of this one meal.

If you're looking for thai in the far north suburbs, this unassuming place is tucked away in the little town of McHenry. All the vegetables seem especially fresh and I can't get enough of the vegetable soup!
