John Brown’s On the Square

1000 Tower Square Plz
Marion, 62959
Reviews:
Very friendly staff...prices are reasonable.....live music on weekends......parking is a slight problem on busy nights........kind of a Chicago hangout as John (the owner) is a Bears season ticket holder.....BTW, the women bartenders are nice eye candy.
A follow up from this years trip, the house ale on tap is wonderful. Schlafly Beer (St Louis) brewed up quite the tasty concoction and it's less than $3 a pint. I have always been happy with Schlafly and usually bring a 6 pack of their Oatmeal Stout home as we can't find them in Georgia. They don't disappoint with the John Brown Brew. Friday night is the night to go for sure, live music.
One of my all time favorite bars. Great staff and a lot of different beer options. Live music on Friday nights.

The Vault Cafe

504 Tower Square Plaza
Marion, 62959
Reviews:
Very friendly staff. The food is not bad....but nothing to write home about. I wish they had a little more variety in the menu.
If you are in this area this is a must stop. We stayed overnight nearby and came here for breakfast. The 10" pancake is enough to share for 2. The omelet was great. The bacon was cooked just perfect. Reasonable prices.
After long day/night of drinking at the Eric Church concert in Marion (June 2015), my wife and I were in need of a good recovery breakfast before our 4 hour drive home. Luckily, I had done my yelp homework before the trip and bookmarked the vault cafe. We arrived about 9:30am on Father's Day and only had a 10 minute wait, so things were off to a good start. Our waitress said the Hawaiian bread French toast was a favorite of the locals, but my heart led me to the "10 inch hotcake". Luckily my wife went with the toast so we got to see it all. The pancake was easily in my top 3 of all time, with serious contention for 1st place. Combine the food quality with the outstanding service and extremely reasonable prices...If this wasn't a 4 hour drive from home, I'd be a regular. If you are nearby and are at least a little hungry, give them a try. You'll be happy you did.

Thai-D

2801 Civic Circle Blvd,Ste 6
Marion, 62959
Reviews:
I was introduced to this magnificent restaurant by some friends a few months ago, and I have yet to even come close to disappointment. Delicious and filling food, attentive and friendly service, and a great atmosphere are more than complimented by their reasonable prices. This is a regular spot for my friends and me, and I hope it will be for you, too.
After a pretty long drive from Toronto, we briefly unloaded all of our stuff at our motel and needed to find a place to eat, STAT! After all, I was pretty famished...11 hours of driving will do that to you, especially forgoing lunch in lieu of making good time. After asking the girl at the front desk for some local joints (she was lovely but I didn't care for her recos) I googled "best restaurants in Marion IL" and with Thai-D at the top of Yelp and TripAdvisor, we decided that they both couldn't be wrong...and they weren't! After a bit of a struggle finding the place (our GPS led us astray for the SECOND time in Marion!) we finally found it in a fairly nondescript strip mall and wandered in. We were very warmly welcomed, seated and served by Erin, who was fantastic. She gave us her recommendation (I'm a regular Thai foodie, my mother not so much) and if her definition of what is "hot" isn't quite the same as mine, I'll forgive her this one little thing. My Pad Kee Mao with Tofu was truly fantastic, even if I wish I had gotten an 8 or 9 instead of a 5 on the spiciness meter! Oh well, she didn't know that I have a borderline hot sauce addiction. Mum enjoyed her (much milder) chicken Pad Thai and I also loved their house "Thai-D Salad"...a fantastic appetizer. Also got a free desert by checking in on Yelp (it pays to do so) and went with the very refreshing coconut ice cream. All in all, a fantastic meal. The place itself is clean, brightly lit and actually the antithesis of most of the good Thai places I've been to...for whatever reason, I've found that the slightly seedier looking Thai restaurants have the best food but Thai-D was not only delicious but very...well, tidy. So although Southern Illinois may not scream "amazing Thai food", I was very pleasantly surprised. It's better than a lot of places I've tried in much bigger cities. I may not stopover again in Marion anytime soon but if I am even remotely close, I would go out of my way to try Thai-D again. It's that good.
Thai D is absolutely fantastic and is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. The food is always fresh and delicious and the staff is always friendly and attentive. If you're new to eating Thai food and feel overwhelmed by the menu then I suggest getting the Pad Thai. You can get your choice of meat to go with your noodles but I always go with shrimp because they give you plenty of shrimp and it's tasty. Pad Thai comes with crushed peanuts on the side and it really adds to the dish if you sprinkle them on top. If I could give Thai D six stars I would because it is that good. You have to eat here.

Taco John’s

903 N Court St
Marion, 62959
Reviews:
This Taco John's has never disappointed me. They make their food appropriately, according to Taco John's "mission statement" on the side of their bag. Large portions that Taco Bell could never compete with. Taco John's tacos are the best fast food tacos you can get.
One of my very first jobs when I was 16 was working at a Taco John's restaurant. The Taco John's in Marion does not disappoint, and everything seems to be up to spec according to the way Taco John's would like things to be made. Fast service, consistent quality, and a clean dining area inside make this a regular stop for me when I'm craving some fast Mexican food. As far as "Taco John's" restaurants go, this one truly is "as good as it gets."
6 tacos soft or hard shells & a pound of tater tots for $10 & stuffed grilled taco for $2.39. It's not exactly Rick Bayless @ Frontera Grill, but hey nothing is open in this Dan town and it was pretty tasty and a whole lot cheaper then Frontera Grill. Hey I'm a survivor and I have to eat. I don't understand southern IL nothing is open down here on Sunday

Honeybakers Restaurant Bakery & Catering

1131 N Carbon St
Marion, 62959
Reviews:
We had our family reunion at Honeybakers last year. The place is very quaint and the smell of pie and cake will meet you at the door. The bakery itself was clean and the servers were very polite and respectful. My glass of tea never went empty and I rarely saw the waitress feel it up. The service was not overbearing or smothering and the employees worked smoothly around us. The food was amazing!! I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup with ravioli. I was stuffed after I ate. However, I wasn't so full that I didn't have a piece of key lime pie and it was out of this world!!! I honestly walked in with very low expectations about this place and walked out a huge fan!! If you are in Marion and you find yourself looking for a great place to eat a quick lunch, look no further than Honeybakers!
The best food and ultimate desserts in all of southern Illinois! I had a piece of Coconut pie from Patti's then went to Honeybakers and it was so much better! Fresh foods and delicious desserts! Love their food!
Yum! My fiancé and I were driving through Illinois and decided to stop here. Normally we go to a chain restaurant when we are on the road, something familiar. We are SO GLAD we stopped here! Everything was delicious! Homemade everything - best potato salad and coleslaw. Homemade rolls with honey butter served with every dish. Fresh tasty iced peach tea (other flavors too but do not recall). Lots of menu options - southern spin on the food - pulled pork, etc.

Triple E Bar-B-Q II

Marion, 62959
Reviews:
Mother's Day lunch was very good. The whole family had rib tips and fish, with various sides. We will be returning here again.
The Triple E restaurants around the Marion and West Frankfort areas have always been my family's go to spots for BBQ and we have never been disappointed yet. The food is always tasty and served promptly and you really can't go wrong with any item on the menu. Try out the different sauces in the table to find one you like. You're on your own here because in my opinion they're all good. I truly believe this BBQ is better than 17th Street and a hell of a lot cheaper too.
We just left Triple E did not have a very good waitress. She was to busy talking to other people. The food was good.
