My wife and I went there for breakfast and were very pleased with the service and food. My wife ordered the egg, bacon and cheese on an english muffin and she said it was the best breakfast sandwich she had ever had. I tried a bite and agree, it was amazing. Martha's is a cute, friendly and quality small town cafe worth visiting if you're in the area. We highly recommend it.

I'm willing to drive nearly 60 miles for lunch here, at least now and again. I've been doing it every month or so for years. It is between Illinois 38 and Van Buren Street toward the west end of town with plenty of parking. It's open for breakfast and lunch. They're closed on Sundays. The cooking is country style (or you might say 'home style') and the food is good, sometimes very good; I've never had anything in the direction of bad. The best choice is almost always what's on the Specials board that you see as you come in the door. Those change daily, though there are some basic trends: The main special (available in large or small sizes) is usually dinner-like; there are different soups and sandwiches, usually including some sort of barbecue sandwich, and 'in season' there will be chili (I never have been sure what the chili season is); there are some side dishes, such as potato salad. If you don't want what's on the board, check out the menu. It's not all things to all people. The prices are low, and you won't go away hungry, unless maybe if you're a vegetarian (but I've never checked to be sure). The other food attraction is the pies (and somethings other pastries), listed on the board just around the corner from the Specials. They are locally made and always good -- just be sure you get there before they're gone! It's a small place, with maybe 5 tables and 5 booths. The atmosphere is country (if a bit kitchy), family, and patriotic, not necessarily in that order. The boss (the eponymous Karshone) is usually hard at work in the kitchen. The people are mostly locals, with a few who wander in from nearby De Kalb or come in from the highway. They're small-town friendly, and if you want to talk to someone, sit at one of the first two tables by the door -- they're common tables and you'll be joined soon enough.

The whole family from New Zealand got to experience this place when we came over to Shabbona for my wedding. Most everyday we headed to Karshone's for the great food and generous hospitality. My bridesmaids still talk about how much they miss the french toast and hash browns. The staff are super friendly and even fit us in one day for a late breakfast when we were running a little late. I always look forward to coming here when my husband and I come back to visit his parents.

If you are looking for a real meal, that's a real deal. Karshone's is great for breakfast, lunch, or just a piece of pie & cup of coffee for a break. The service is great, food is high quality with a wide range of homestyle specials that rotate throughout the week, from roast pork, to bbq, chicken dinners... the list goes on and on with real quality food you'd expect mom or maybe grandma to make. The prices are very reasonable, and they clearly let you know before you get in that they don't accept credit or debit cards, though the bank is right next door. The pies are exceptional, and the coffee is great as well. As Hans mentioned in his review, and I'll second it. In the many meals I've had at Karshones, they have all been good to excellent. They recently catered meat loaf for the Lions Club dinner and it was outstanding!

Was driving through malta last week and stopped in here For a quick lunch. What a little gem of a place! Super reasonable and Excellent grilled cheese sandwich. Friendly service and great atmosphere. Look forward to my next trip!

Home cooking at its finest, and breakfast is served all day. Basically just hanging out in someone's kitchen. Food was incredibly reasonable, well prepared and tasty. Not fancy, but it's not intended to be. Service was polite and effective. There's only a handful of tables, so the server is always close by. Would have appreciated a recommendation or two. Specifically around the sweeter side of the menu.

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm... We had a party of 7 and were the only patrons in the restaurant. Service was good but not terribly outgoing. Good was good... Typical home cooking type items. Definitely worth a stop if you are willing to head east about 8 miles off of 39, vs. eating at a chain. Peanut butter pie was very good... Though be warned with the Cherry pie as it had pits in it (not fun for the teeth). Note: Martha took over the restaurant in September 2014. As of late November 2014, the signage outside the building had not yet been updated.

I come up to Rochelle to visit family a couple of times a year, but never stopped in to this small cafe. Very glad I did today. Very basic American fare, but done with passion. I'm sure I'll be back again before I leave on this week long trip.
