I got take out from Falafelji a week ago and thought it was just okay. I got a chicken shawarma platter and really didn't find it anything special. The chicken was okay and borderline almost dry. The salad that can with the platter is nothing to talk about. The best part of the platter was the one grilled tomato and jalapeno. The grill onion was still too raw to really enjoy. Then my friends decided to go to this place and I thought I would give it a another try eating in. I got the beef shawarma sandwich and the small hummus. The hummus was actually pretty good with the warm pita, so my hopes were not lost at first. The beef shawarma sandwich knocked my hope back to the ground. I had a couple pieces of vegetables on the top on my sandwich, but the rest of the sandwich was really just beef and pita. The taste wasn't anything special. I gave it two tries and that might be enough for me, sadly.

I go to Falafelji about 3 times a week. The location is perfect for those looking to end their workout at the nearby XSport and load up on protein. I highly recommend teh side of chicken Shawarma or Chicken Kabob. the 4 piece Falafel is also a great option. I wish they still had the roasted red pepper hummus which I've been pushing "Abe" to sell again, it was taken off the menu due to low demand =( I hear Chicken Tikka Massala (or an Indian flavored chicken) will be served soon, looking forward to it!

I had to give it three stars based on the sanitary conditions of their restaurant and NOT on the quality of their food. I've been here a couple of times because the food was amazing, and it still is especially the chicken Shawermas (my all-time fav). However, I only became more disappointed every time came when I seen them preparing my food... the two men preparing it were not wearing gloves!!! Hello!!!! I did not notice this at first when I first visited maybe they wore them when they first opened or they never did but this was a major health violation for me. The man who was preparing my Shawerma actually held the whole thing in his bare hand. I was pretty disgusted..who knows if they go to the bathroom and come back without washing their hands? If you are going to prepare something that I am eating please have the decency and respect to wear gloves. That is all I ask please. To Falafelji..Your food is delicious and I wish I can go back again but just the whole "glove thing" bothers me.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I live in Aurora so it's a drive for me & my boyfriend but it's worth it. Whenever we're coming from downtown Chicago, we try to stop there because we love the falafels and chicken shawarma. The Jerusalem salad is awesome! The baklava reminds me of the greek bakeries that I used to frequent in NYC. The chefs are so friendly and courteous, and are never too busy to hold a conversation with you. It's not the fanciest of sit down places but the food is so good, we don't mind. I recommend this to everyone!!! 5 stars plus!!!

They have delivery. Win! We order here from work a lot, it's a great change from all the greasy restaurants in the Berwyn/Cicero area. Grape leaves, baba ghanoush, Jerusalem salad are fantastic. Shawerma sandwiches are meaty.

Very good food , good service, friendly staff. Not too much sitting but good quality food. Falafel and chicken shawerma are specially good!

I found this place through grubhub. We decided to go straight there to check it out. It's in a strip mall with not much seating inside. The people were friendly and helpful though when I asked for an extra chair. We ordered four platters among 5 people. We did the vegetarian platter-hummus, baba ghanoush and red bell pepper hummus; the combination kabob; the kafta kabob and the steak kabob. And also 15 falafel appetizer. The falafels were awesome. Fried perfectly and not dry or crumbly. The kabobs were awesome. The chicken was juicy not dry at all. The kafta kabob was probably my favorite. The garlic mayo on the chicken was so delicious. The sauces were all good too--the spicy habanero will kick some serious butt! One of the guys behind the counter who seemed to be in charge indicated that they will be opening soon in La Grange. I can't wait! I will go here again and again until they do.

This place cares about their food. They want you to enjoy your meal. They want to provide the freshest ingredients. Luckily for us, they deliver on all of those things. The place is small and more of a take out spot. You can order on grubhub and pick it up. The food is so amazing. You can tell the ingredients are the best and most fresh the chef can use. All the meats are great. They are always made to order and you can taste the great flavor from the freshly grilled meats. Also their falafel is some of the best in the city. The humus and baba ghanoush are amazing. You can taste the grilled eggplant in the baba ghanoush. Love this place and it's definitely worth a try, you won't regret it!

This place is great. Some of the best middle-eastern food I've had anywhere - both in the city and out. I had the veggie platter - not sure what to say other than 5 out of 5!

What a gem! I came try the schawerma, and wound up loving everything. The staff are courteous, the restaurant is clean, and the food is REAL. And good. I'd say the food is real good, but it's not, instead, it's great!

The food is off the chain. Had chicken kabobs and taboulhe salad and both were excellent. Service was great. Food is fresh. There are a couple of tables in a small dining room but take out would probably be best. I do have to call out a patron who ordered before me. She was a middle aged white woman who was so rude and said some really offensive things to the gentleman who took her order. She actually asked him if the food was from a country that was at war with Palestine. Huh??? And she went on to say some other ignorant things pertaining to the Middle East and terrorism. She also stated she works for the city of Berwyn. She embarrassed me as a white American. Anyway, this place is a new favorite.

This place was so good!!!!! We were in the area and wanted some Mediterranean food. This place came up with a ton of stars and great reviews. The food lived up to all the high expectations set by past reviews. The falafel is fresh and so delicious. The lentil soup was to die for. Also the owner was there as well and clearly showed that he cares about his product and service. A must try if you enjoy this genre of food.

I don't remember how I found out about Falafelji, but I told a foodie buddy about it. We hit Taza on Franklin downtown once a week for lunch at work and think it's really good (4.5 stars with so many reviews - we're not the only ones that think that). He tried Falafelji the weekend after I told him and said it was really, really good - as good as Taza or better. I finally tried it this weekend, and I think it's better than Taza, which is a pretty lofty compliment. I spoke with the owner a bit and told him what I thought. He was very nice and appreciated the compliments. He gave me a sample of their lentil soup and it was really good. I got the combo plate with chicken schwarma, chicken kabob and steak schwarma. It comes with very flavorful rice, hummus, salad (nice - chunks of crunchy cucumber and something purple, lettuce, tomato and a nice dressing), mashweyeh (roasted veggies) and a warm pita. I also got a 6-piece falafel (not a bad price like some are saying, if you ask me). The falafel are smaller than some other places, but they tie with the falafel at Taza as the best I've ever had. Everything on the plate was excellent - absolutely the best I've had anywhere. I enjoyed the mashweyeh so much I got a side order to take home - those veggies will go great with anything. The sauces were great too - since I had the combo and the chicken and beef came with a squirt of one sauce each (garlic mayo and tahini respectively), and I asked for an extra sauce, I got to try all but the red pepper sauce. They were all very good. My favorite is the jalapeno garlic sauce. If that came bottled, I'd buy a bottle. Very unique and tasty. I'll be back to try the kifta, the mezze veggie plate and the herb fries for sure. I only wish this place were closer to where I live - I'd get after-work dinner here once a week.

I found this place on Yelp, saw the number of reviews and decided to give it a shot. So glad I did. The entire experience from ordering the food to finishing it was very satisfying. The woman answering the phone patiently answered my 20 questions. By the time I ordered I knew I was going to get exactly what I want. From the time I hung up to the time my doorbell was rung: 30 minutes. The delivery guy didn't even linger waiting for a tip. In fact, if I hadn't called him back to give him a tip, he would have left with no expectation of one. These guys are really first class. I'm not one for superlatives and not easily impressed, but Falafelji is special, exceeded my expectations in every capacity. This place is one of the best restaurants in Chicago. The vegetables are so fresh you'd think they grew them in the kitchen. The meats and sauces are cooked just right and spiced to perfection. While not inexpensive, I am more than happy to pay the price for the quality and quantity they deliver. We ordered the combo platter and chicken shwarma platter. On both we asked for no rice, more vegetables. They did so with no charge, something others don't always accommodate. My only complaint--and it is a significant one--is that they don't have more locations. I hope one day they open the exact same restaurant downtown and another in Northbrook. Needless to say, I will be back.

Great mix to the neighboring food selection in Berwyn area! I love the Chicken Shawerma. Cooked fresh and in front of you, expect a bit longer than fast food. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful with newbies to explain the menu. Glad to have this as an alternative in the area!

Went to this place yesterday and ordered falafel and tabouli salad. The food was pretty good. The service was exceptional. The manager (or owner) was extremely sweet. He welcomed us in, and had a smile on his face for the entire 15 minutes we were there. He prepared our order in front of us, so we knew it was fresh. I don't live close to this joint, but would definitely go back when I visit the area.

Alright so I visited again and tried two new items hoping they'd be amazing. Beef Shawarma Wrap -- cold, dry, ok on flavor but would have been so much better warm! (no spit here, so they didn't warm it enough on the grill) Stuffed Grapevine leaves -- These were also served cold. The first bite left a lardy layer on my teeth only to be followed by more lardy (greasy like) layer all over the inside of my mouth. Gross. Our family makes these, and ours are delicious - I know what they are supposed to taste like and this was not it. I heated the rest and it was still the same. The only plus was that this time my wrap was served on a pita instead of a wrap. The wrap was dry last time I was here, this time it was on a fluffier pita and that added something better to the sandwich. The chicken kabob was still solid. That was my second sandwich. Moist, flavorful. I'll stick to that.

Give me a choice of goat tacos or falafel, and I'll choose falafel every time. To be honest, I will probably choose falafel over most edible items, and Falafelji's falafels prove why this is a wise choice - they are fresh, flavorful and served hot. However, what bumps these tasty morsels into a 5-star world is the assortment of hot sauces, specifically the jalapeño-garlic. If you go here and don't have this sauce, you lose. I recommend getting 4 for $2.50 so you can sample some other items. I also had a Jerusalem salad, which is a full-sized salad with minced vegetables and pickles in a tahini dressing. It was good, but I prefer tangy, so I might go for the fattoush if I went back. The lentil soup is also solid with simple, hearty flavors. What really stood out is that nothing was salty, and everything tasted incredibly fresh and healthy. Plus, it was cheap (lunch for 3 for under $25 when we used the check in offer), and the owner came out and chatted with us. I could tell he really cared. But, again - it's all about the jalapeño-garlic. If they bottled it, I'd buy a case.

Please...Please support this establishment. This is my favorite goto place for lunch near my work. I don't understand why this doesn't constantly have a line out the door. The food is fantastic. Fresh, fast, fantastic food.

This place absolutely deserves 5 stars! First off, the customer service is great! Secondly the presentation of the food is very good and the food itself taste so good and is very well balanced. Sometimes certain restaurants over season their falafel! Very pleased and will be returning many times. Try their Red Bell Pepper Hummus! So good.

  • Sarah B.

I am in love with their Baba Ganoush. It is seriously my favorite thing on the menu. My dad gets the Falafel pita, and that is also super yummy. I get the vegetarian sampler, because I love hummus and tabouleh. Their tabouleh has a bit of a kick, but that makes it even tastier. The red pepper hummus and stuffed grape leaves are good too. You get so much food. I have leftovers for at least another meal, maybe even a snack too. Eventually I'm sure I'm going to branch out and get something else...maybe. I feel so refreshed and happy after the vegetarian sampler that I may never not order it.

I recommend this restaurant. Ultimately, though, I am confused. Maybe I have had bad luck or got spoiled by falafel trucks in LA/NY, but this place has been awesome for me for pretty much any dish BUT falafel. The shawarma, mezze, and Jerusalem salad are top-notch. Don't bother hiking to the city for these. The two times I ordered falafel with other dishes, they have been cold and were the blandest falafel I've ever had. I didn't even think that was possible. Good rating for excellent cleanliness, variety, and delivery.

Delicious, fresh, tasty. Everything I had here was good. That list includes: * Shawerma (beef and chicken) * Falafel * Hummus (all varieties) * Baba Ghannouj * Grape leaves * Kifte * Lentil Soup * Rice * Bottled water No seriously, just solid solid solid middle eastern food. No frills, just deliciousness.

Holy. Balls. (Falafel, sicko) How fitting my 100th review be for this establishment. I can't explain how good it is. I yelped today, being the lazy parent I am, to provide a food field trip for my daughter. Mom had to clean, but she's an only child, I pay a lot of repentance. So the recently somewhat disappointing yelp as of late, leads me here. My asshole GPS has me U-turn 3 times til we make it. It's empty, it's unassuming. But it's not prime time, and I have a good vibe. I explain to the man we are ordering $50 of food bc of our "trek". It was 20 min, I'd drive to Russia for good food, but people judge. He didn't. He sent a falafel app while we waited. DING DING DING. I don't care if it costs the place 5 cents or $500...this kind of gesture WILL MAKE ME RETURN, even if your food sucks. Theirs doesn't. I can't tell you how much this makes me want to tattoo their name on my face. If a restaurant is awesome, and I go 20 times, and the gesture isn't acknowledged, f@*k you. This is a recent awakening as I decided to stop being passive aggressive. The falafel is dope. And I don't love falafel by any means. But the food is ri-dic-u-lous. Best meal I've had in months, and I fine dine yo. I hate hearing crazy good things about movies, food, hotels, whatever. I like the under promise, over deliver route. But, I had already heard the good. And it exceeded. Mind you, my ex is from Skokie and I worship this place. Anyone who knows anything, understands this. Order it all!! I DEFINITELY preferred chicken everything over steak, which is not the norm. The kafta was excellent. The lentil soup, fine, but not gonna die without it. My daughter refused the coconut cake, so she may be up for adoption soon. Inquire within. But please go there. As a bonus, not that I needed it, the owner offered to deliver by me!!! I'd like to call myself cute, but not that cute, definitely not today. So this was a genuine, kind gesture. This shit keeps ppl in business. No gimmick, no bullshit, a little personality, and a little extra gesture here and there. If you don't like it, I don't like you.

Fantastic fresh and flavorful food. Prepared from scratch at the place, it may take a few minutes, but the taste is one of a kind - and I have eaten at many Middle-eastern food places. Next to AlBawadi (a full restaurant in Bridgeview), this is the best I have had. I eat there and do take outs for dinners with friends - everybody raves about it. The portions are good (a falafel sandwich will fill and average eater for lunch or dinner) and the price is very reasonable. Try it, everybody!

My Groupons expired months ago and I still hadn't had a chance to stop here on the way home from Mom's. But this time I was travelling in the opposite direction, knew Mom probably wouldn't be up to waiting in line ANYWHERE on Mother's Day, and decided to surprise her with her first taste of Middle Eastern food. I ordered both a steak and chicken schewerma platter and a dozen falafel. All were very fresh, tasty, spiced to perfection. Sauces are great, veggies, salad & rice were excellent, but the falafel, straight out of the fry basket, is to die for! OMG! Service was very friendly as they accepted both expired Groupons at what I paid for them. Mom, a fussy eater by necessity, even said she would like to order again. Thanks so much, Falafelji. Only thing that bothers me about this place is how to figure out which syllables get accented in your name.....

  • Miguel S.

No surprise that the best tasting item is (drum roll) the falafel. Yes, it's good and so are the hummus and stuffed grape leaves. The meat portions are completely undistinguished and on the small side for the price. That's what kills it for me. Maybe it's fine if you're a vegetarian. A much smaller concern is that the staff seems a little menacing: a pack scowling guys in black shirts. It clashes with the otherwise pleasant decor. Gentlemen, a stained white smock is much friendlier. On the whole, this restaurant does not live up to the hype in the reviews here.

Pickles in my Shawerma sandwich ??Normally it's pickled turnips not pickles .? Pickles just aren't he same......Chicken is very good ....Mezze (Vegetarian Sampler) 9.00 and no pita for the hummus and babaganoush. .....Good but not great ....

Ordered the chicken shawarma on pita and a side of falafel...everything was perfectly delicious! The falafel was the best I've ever had..and I've had lots of falafel! The chicken was moist and juicy, loved the garlic mayo that comes with it, and the pickled vegetables topped it all off! The owner and employees were very nice! They even gave me some aromatic mint tea that I will be ordering next time! Found my new Mediterranean spot..and they deliver to us! Yay!

Came here on a Sunday afternoon during non peak hours and was warmly greeted by badel, who is the restaurant owner. I was glad to see he was there monitoring the quality of what's coming out across the counter, it definitely shows a lot. I ordered the cobo kobob. Very tasty and a good portion. The falafel was also very good and had a lot of flavor. Overall great good, excellent service and I will be coming back soon! Thank you Badel!

Falafalji is the first Mediterranean restaurant in the Lyons/Stickney/Forest View area. Why did we have to wait so long? The first thing that strikes me about this restaurant (besides the amazing smells when you walk in) is their service. They're doing it right. I think it helps that its a family owned restaurant as well. The location where Falafelji sits has been home to countless other restaurants that have all failed. I can only hope that Falafelji lasts longer than the others. I think the location is sort of hard to reach because of the amount of traffic on the corner of Harlem and 39th. But, don't fear, there is ample parking in front of this tiny strip mall. The food is simply amazing. The smells emanating from the grill make your mouth water the minute you walk in the door. I would have to suggest a kabob platter for your first visit to Falafelji. The kabob, be it chicken, pork, or beef, is marinated then grilled to perfection. Every bite of the tender meet with the delicious tahini sauce on top is a slice of heaven. If you're lucky enough to catch some rice on your fork along with that meat you're in for the best combination of flavors on the planet. The rice is every bit as delicious as the kabob. When you're done with your rice and kabob you still have your side of grilled tomatoes and eggplants and salad. Put the veggies on the pita bread that comes on the side and you have a whole new combination of flavor to love. I have not tried their hummus yet but I assume its amazing. I was reluctant at first to try the taboulej, but its amazing! Ask for some extra pita to go with. Once you get a taste of the delicious, citrusy dip, you won't be able to put down the pita bread. The one downside to having the highest quality, best tasting ingredients is the price. Falafelji is not exactly cheap. However, the food is so good and the portions are so generous that you'll be willing to overlook that. I really hope they don't decide to use lower quality ingredients to lower their prices like so many other restaurants do. If anyone who works at Falafelji reads this: PLEASE DON'T CHANGE YOUR FOOD QUALITY! Its hard to find food this good around here.

I bought a groupon for Falafelji and I am soooo glad I did! I've never really experienced middle eastern food so I don't have much to compare it to, but it was delicious!!!! The people their were very friendly and helpful. The food was ready to be picked up within 10 minutes. I don't live far from this place and I don't know why I haven't heard of it before! I'm definitely coming back! I had the mezze, which came with grape stuffed leaves, pita bread with 3 different kinds of hummus, some chopped up green stuff with a lemon dressing, and some breading balls with a dipping sauce. I might not know what I was eating, but I loved it!!! I also had a footusa salad. (I know the spelling is wrong) And that was awesome!! Fresh cucumber, lettuce, radish, pita chips, and the dressing was very tasty with a little spice to it. For dessert, I had the coconut cake. Oh my! If I would have known it was going to be that good, i would have gotten two of them!! I love coconut and this was perfect! The whole experience was well worth it! I definitely recommend it to people that have never tried middle eastern food or that have and want to try a new place. I know I will definitely be back!

These are some tasty, cheap eats. Delicious falafel and out of this world baba ganoush. The service is outstanding. Plus, they deliver! The only reason I didn't give Falafelji all five stars is because I didn't see a booster seat inside, despite the fact that I perceive them to be very child friendly (but keep in mind there are only 2 or 3 tables inside). I will most definitely be a repeat customer. Yum!

Fresh, authentic, and wholesome delicious food.....my husband and I have made 3 trips here recently and now I can whole heartedly say this place is AMAZING. My favorites are the fattoush, lentil soup, the hot sauces, and the falafel. The falafel tastes so darn fresh, its incredible. I highly recommend you eat them as soon as they are made. They taste 10 x better when they are piping hot and crispy. We let the falafel stay overnight at home and they were not as crispy (which is no one's fault really). The Fattoush is by far the freshest dish they have. They must make it fresh each time because I have had it twice now and everytime it seems like it was just made and not part of some grand, premixed salad sitting in the back or something. The hummus is decent but the hot sauces are really original. For the meat lovers, the Kofta platter is decent as well. If you don't like tahini, then tell them to put it on the side because they will pour it artistically on your meat with your platter. The lentil soup actually tastes home made which is rare to find in the Chicagoland area. You can sit in or you can take out. I think they deliver too. Never tried delivery though. If you are feeling like you need a reboot, I would say start with a fattoush here, some hot grape leaves (also rare to find), and a lentil soup. You won't go wrong. My husband also loved the kofta and chicken sandwiches as well as the baba ghanoub. SO HAPPY THIS PLACE IS CLOSE TO HOME!!!

I loved this place the second I walked in. I honestly didn't expect to! I had a great experience. I was very impressed with the kindness & professionalism of the staff including the young kid that took my order (he couldn't have been more than 15 years old but was so mature and professional). Did I mention the food? The food! It was delicious. Authentic middle eastern flavor and it was fresh. Kudos to the owner. Thank you for the genuine care in preparing the food and letting me slide on being $.60 short :)

Happened to stumble into Falafelji one hungry afternoon and I fell in love with the place. The grape leaves are awesome, the falafel quickly disappeared, and the coconut cake should not be missed! The owner was very nice and made it a great experience. I will be back soon.

Stopped in on a whim and I'm so glad we did! The food was excellent and the people there were exceptionally friendly. Their homemade hummus was super tasty and everything was entirely made to order. Would have been 5 stars but their beverage menu was a bit lacking in my opinion.

Food is always great! Healthy alternative to a lot of the other places in the area. I always order the Beef Shawarmas sandwich, packed with soo much flavor. Plus, the owner is super nice. Always a pleasant experience! :)

If you live or work in the area, there is no excuse for you to pass by Falafelji without stopping in. I'll even say you should make a point to stop in here even if you are not local. Day at the zoo? Heading down I-55? Swing by. We stopped in for a bite to eat, we had a beef shewarma wrap and chicken shewarma wrap, fries, and a soda. Everything was super fresh and super tasty. We had some falafels, too, with incredible hummus, and them the owner (?) brought out an olive dip for our fries. Oh, and my husband had the Falafelji Habanero sauce with his beef wrap. Everything was great! I'm just going to say tasty, fresh, filling portions AND online ordering AND really nice friendly folks working there- this a perfect combination and we will be back!

I was hoping Falafelji would bring some tasty, reasonably priced Middle Eastern food to the area and after eating there tonight, here's my intital assessment. (p.s.- I do plan on going back for a wrap and to try some of their habanero sauce and jalapeno sauce). Quantity/Value- We got two platters and a 12 piece falafel for roughly 20 bucks. If you're a big eater, you might be able to do a platter and 12 piece in one meal, but I got two meals out of my platter. Not a bad deal at all. Food- We had the combo platter and kifka platter. The rice was long grain and had a good taste, the kiftka and beef shawerma had a nice char to them (I though the seasoning on the beef was really good), the grilled vegetables were served cold, but had a nice grilled, slightly sweet flavor. The cucumber salad was nice and crunchy, the baba ghanoush was really smokey (which in my opinion is a good thing) and the humus was your typical hummus, but on point nonetheless. Falafel- This deserves its own section because its in the name of the place. The falafel were smaller than I expected and were about the size and shape of a nilla wafer. You could see a bit of grease on the bag they came in, but they really were not greasy and had a nice crunch to them. Overall - I will be coming back to Falafelji. Its a nice place to grab a quick tasty lunch or dinner and the staff are friendly. They're definetely a welcome addition to Hong Kong Garden (another place you should visit) and I hope if you live in the area you give them a shot. And bonus points for having re-usable takeout containers.

This place is my falafel sanctuary on the long drive home from work. people are friendly, food is great & prices are pretty reasonable. I have yet to be even close to disappointed.

As a relatively new transplant to the suburbs from Chicago, I've been...less than excited about my delivery options. Falafelji has been a real life-saver! Always fast delivery and the food is top-notch. Everything tastes fresh and is on par with what I would consider some of the best falafel places in the city. The only thing keeping them from a 5 star review is that they often forget to include the extra sauces we request (and pay for). Not a huge deal, but they have such wonderful sauces (the olive tapenade for the fries is AMAZING, and the garlic mayo they put on their chicken platter is aces!), it's a bummer when you don't get them. Definitely worth a shot-especially when you're missing the abundance of city-delivery options!

Friendly service. As I waited for a falafel pita sandwich, the friendly young man making my food, gave me a sample of the lentil soup. I've never had lentil soup but it was tasty, a bit sour from the lemon however it was still good. The falafel was perfect and not dry. I will definitely go back and try other menu options.

So delicious! It's close by and is one of the best Mediterranean spots I've tried. They also deliver which makes it a nice option when we want something different then pizza. I like the fattoush with chicken. The chicken has a nice little spice to it. My 3 year old loves their rice and they are always nice when we ask for a side of cucumbers. They even cut them up in bite sized pieces for her.

a fellow felelafel fan touted this place, which is a bit out of the way and very unassuming. purely from the standpoint of food quality, it's worth the trip (i had the felafel plate and also sampled the chicken schwarma)--very fresh, well seasoned and tasty; counter service was very quick despite our dishes being made to order, and the owner/chef couldn't have been more gracious. frankly, the decor could be a lot more inviting--it's very sparse and somewhat unwelcoming and could use some music, artwork, etc.--it's not the kind of place you want to linger, but better as a quick bite or takeout. the food, again, was very good, with some nice touches like the pickled vegetable sides.

If you haven't eaten at Falafelji yet, get over here!!! The food is delicious, flavorful, and very different! It is a great addition to the area. I'm honestly addicted to it! Every employee treats you like a friend, more or less family. Highly recommend!

Yes! Eat here! Looking for delicious middle eastern food that leaves you feeling satisfied and nourished? This is the hidden gem! Not flashy, not fancy, but amazing food! We ordered the hummus plate, a salad, a chicken Schwarma dinner and a combo dinner. The owner was so welcoming, asked us of we would like some hot sauces to accompany our meal. We were just delighted with our meal! Keep up the GREAT job!!!! This is food made with love!

Stellar example of a falafel shop. Should be in every city in the country. On par with Taim in NYC (if you've had Taim, you've had the best.) Falafelji does not make their own pitas, BUT they are excellent pitas and taste like they were made on the premises. Freshly-fried but not over-fried falafel balls. Perfect. Very tasty lentil soup. I could've eaten more but we had a 7-hour drive ahead and I didn't want to drowse. Pretty awesome find, and a sure-shot to falafel happiness every time you're in Chicago. And a super nice owner who came to greet us and offered samples of several different homemade hot sauces which were all bold and great!

I've been here 7 or 8 times, and I keep coming back! The food is delicious! I was hooked on the beef shawarma, but now I get the combo platter. The food is plentiful, and the prices are good. I've tried other Mediterranean restaurants, but none of them I've found are as good as Falafelji! The service is good, and the guys making your food are nice. It takes a bit longer to get your food, but that's because it's fresh and made to order. I love this place, and I'll keep coming back. Also, do yourself a favor, and get the homemade hot sauce. It compliments every bite.

So, I figure after a solid year of coming to Falafelji, I should probably update my review. Still amazing - still delicious - still driving 31 miles to get the best Middle Eastern eats I have ever had. I counted it up the other day: I have been to 11 Middle Eastern joints across the Chicago suburbs and only Cedar Grill in Downers Grove is CLOSE to OK compared to Falafelji. It's not even in the same galaxy comparatively, but it is good enough to get my fix when I need somewhere local. It has got to be the love the chefs put into this food that makes it so exquisite. It also has to be the care and passion the owner devotes into picking out his ingredients and buying his food to prepare. The veggies are always top notch, the spices are always out of this world, and the preparation of the food is always done consistently and thoroughly. The only people who could not like this place are as follows: - People who don't like to wait for quality food and expect everything to be ready to walk out the door in 3 minutes max. -People who only have had Naf Naf and think that real Middle Eastern food is the generic tasting food they serve there. -People who hate flavor and quality. -People who do not like Middle Eastern food (this is the only justifiable reason, btw). -People who like their falafel tasting like chicken (See Pitaville review as a reference). Every time I come to Falafelji, I don't talk to my boyfriend. I relish in the delicious food and don't even have words to say while enjoying this fabulous establishment. Please, do yourself a favor, if you like Middle Eastern food, please just try this place. You'll love it. If you don't, you must be communist.

This place is great. When we migrated out to the 'burbs a couple years ago I said a painful farewell to all of the delicious mediterranean food in our Irving Park neighborhood. Then I met Falafelji. The chicken shawarma is on point with the best I've had in the city. It's a ton of food, we always have leftovers. Ask for pickles on your salad, you won't be disappointed. This is a major pregnancy craving at my house, and it's pretty healthy! Falafel are great, and the sauces are all delish.

I have lived in Cairo, Iraq, Damascus, and Beirut and this little joint has the best Falafel I've had in the United States bar none. It's worth the wait, and the owners are very friendly. It's worth the trip if you're a Falafel lover.

Had the meat combination platter for lunch which includes chicken, beef, and lamb, with rice, house salad, and grilled vegetables. The food was fresh and tasty, and portions are very generous able to satisfy any palate with Mediterranean taste. I would recommend it!

Ordered from Falafelji for the first time last week and got the falafel sandwich. Was flavorful and fresh and was given large portions! I ordered the chicken kabob platter today and was even more impressed. Their online ordering is so easy to use, and take out is ready in the half hour time that they put on their website. Friendly staff and clean dining area on top of the food means this place is 5 stars. Just an FYI: the $1 off coupon on their menu is expired.

To be honest, I only come here cuz its close. There are better tasting & cheaper prices further south but I was too lazy to go elsewhere. The food isnt bad but not great either. The prices are definitely on the higher end & they do not have lunch specials as others do. No soda fountain or bathroom. Drinks are sold by the bottle or can.

OMG...this was my first time here and carry out. I love love Mediterranean food but typically get it downtown. I found my new spot so close to home!! The hummus was delicious as well as their falafel. I had their chicken kabob plate which came with a small tasty salad and rice. The garlic mayo is yummy! I can not wait to go back...delicious.

  • Herra H.

Really great service, friendly staff, however I would recommend carrying out because this place doesn't have the most sitting room. The food is amazing! We got complementary falafel while we were waiting for our food. They also make all of the food in front of you. I ordered the beef shawarma sandwhich- this was some of the BEST shawarma I've ever eaten!! It comes in pita bread, with grilled onions and pickles. All of that yum conveniently wrapped. I also ordered the chicken shawarma with rice- If you're not into pita bread, order this. This is to DIE for. A perfect ratio of rice, sauce, and chicken. Cheap, great food, what else do you want?

This place is great, good food and excellent service. I ordered shawarma sandwich, they accidentally gave me full plate. It was a lot of food for one person. I ate it over two days, they didn't charge for the extra. The food is delicious, I tried different things over the past few weeks. If you are looking for good Mediterranean food and don't have a lot of time, this is excellent stop. Good authentic food.

Great food! My husband and I found this spot on an accident. First time we went he got a falafel sand which which he enjoyed, and I got the combo kabob plate!! My food was wonderful, the meat was tender and seasoned well. They give plenty of food and its reasonably priced! I would definitely recommend this place, I've been here 3 times in the past 3 weeks and I've enjoyed it each time!!

This place is so amazing that it makes me want to die and when I do, have them cater my funeral. The herb fried are standout, particularly in light of the sauce which comes topped with minced kalamata olives. Unbelievable. The chicken shawerma is tender, flavorful, and comes with grilled onion and a burn-your-face-off charred pepper. Mmmm.... The kafta kabob pita? I died. Rolled over and died. I had to remove it from my field of vision just to save a bit long enough for my husband to try. The baba ganoush is phenomenal and I don't even like baba ganoush. What's up? Oh, and the falafel? I've been of the mind that falafel is boring as hell, but apparently this is because the panoply I've tried up until this point have not been from Falafelji. This falafel is warm, tender and moist. They didn't even make it in to the pita they gave me. I just straight up ate them. The pita were fresh, the hummus was smooth and had a deep, nutty flavor, the dolma were warm and tender and perfectly seasoned and the tabouleh is tart and loaded with parsley (hurray!). If you are still reading by this point, then either you're simply bored or I've done a poor job conveying that THIS IS THE PLACE!

My boyfriend and I stopped by here because it's near my house and we were in the mood for falafel and hummus. I almost did a double take because I had never noticed Falafelji until then even though I'm a local. I'm a huge fan of med food, so our lunch choice was made for us! We ordered a platter with a wonderfully large combination of food that left us both feeling satisfied. The price was reasonable, too! The service was absolutely outstanding. I felt like I had become a part of the Falafelji family just by dining here once. The employees made friendly conversation, brought or a delightful sample of the lentil soup, and volunteered plenty of information about the food, too. The great service would have me returning here even if the food were just mediocre. But the food was great! All the more reason to come back. My only minor complaint is to have some music or something to set the mood if dining in. It felt like a more appropriate place to pick up take-put than to dine in. I look forward to trying the falafel sandwich the next time I come and hopefully I won't have to share with anyone else this time because I want my Falafelji all to myself!

The best shawarmas I have ever had outside the United Arab Emirates. I would definitely buy from here again and I would recommend everyone to try it at least once. Beef and Chicken Shawarmas are awesome. And thank you very much for serving Halal meat. Assallamalikum.

The appearance from the outside it is a bit deceiving.but when you step inside the seating is a bit small which is good because you want to small little quaint little area to eat quietly especially if you're with that special someone. I liked was the fact that everything is made from scratch As you ordered. The prices are very fair and you get more than you paid for which is great. The employees are very polite and very helpful if your first time Mediterranean foodie. I highly recommend this place

  • Angela T.

They seem to have gotten skimpier on serving sizes for the same price. He last two visits, we waited an exceedingly long time. Both instances, they forgot items that had to get started long after everything else was done. Result? Our food was left on the counter to go cold. Prepared meat was left on a cutting board for a long enough period, the food safety nerd in me was beginning to wonder if it was in the temperature danger zone when it was finally tossed into my schwarma platter some 15 minutes later. I love their food, but it is becoming difficult to justify the long wait and high price.

I had this place bookmarked for a while, and kept forgetting to check it out, but I finally went! It is located in a strip mall, plenty with plenty of parking. The inside is clean and had seating for about 10 people. I was greeted as soon as I walked in - very friendly. I placed an order to go, the chicken shawerma and a steak shawerma platter. Both came with rice, grilled veggies, salad and pita. I had asked for two extra jalepeno garlic sauce on the side (an upcharge). I was charged, but it was not in the bag when I got home. The chicken was great - very tender and flavorful. I would absolutely get this again. The steak were think strips and very chewy. I would NOT get this again. The rice, salad and veggies were all fine. The pita did not seem very fresh. Glad I had a chance to check this place out and I would stop by again if driving past, but not make it a destination.

I have ordered from Falafelji for both catering and dined at their store. Don't expect anything fancy, but then again the best places usually come with no frills. My customers loved their chicken shawarma platter that came with a green salad; I've eaten their chicken kabob plate with rice, grilled vegetables and that yummy garlic sauce they have. I don't get too excited about chicken but I was really sad when I finished the last bite. This will definitely be a restaurant I frequent when I'm in the area!

Absolutely the best "fast food" place I can ever go to. Almost everything on the menu is completely healthy and guilt free. The prices are very fair. The people are wonderful, friendly, and get your order done as fast as they can possibly cook your meal. I can eat there everyday.

WOW; My wife and I met the owner across the street in line at Berwyn Fruit & Market as he was purchasing huge bag of Jalapenos. We commented on loving spicy food and he informed the peppers were for his Restaurant. We decided to stop by after shopping and glad we did. We now stop by whenever that craving hits. The food is always fresh and awesome. People we have recommended say the same. Cheers,

So this place had been on our to do list for a while now and we finally got a chance to see what the deal was. Please belive the hype when it comes to the falafel! We've had it at several places, some better than others, but none have been as good as the ones from here. Packed full of flavor and super moist, it's something to go out of your way for. I also enjoyed the rice which had a texture of plumpness in each grain that I never experienced before. I definitely would recommend.

This place has great fresh food. I was very surprised because the food tasted way better than I had expected. Probably the best steak schwarama sandwhich I have ever had in my life! No joke. When I was done eating I was left feeling good. The ingredients were fresh and healthy. I will be a regular here for sure! I even had to get another sandwich to go for later!

We've been to Falafelji several times now, and I don't usually leave reviews, but I just HAVE to for this one. This place consistently has awesome fresh food. The quality of the meat in the chicken shawarma is so good, but my favorite thing to order is the Mezze Platter (dolmades, salad, hummus, baba ghanouj, falafel, and pita for less than $10)! It's super cheap but high quality and oh so good and fresh. The guy who I'm assuming is the owner because he's been there every time I have is helpful. They have dine-in, although we normally carry out. The dining room is clean and no frills, which is fine. They have a slightly more exciting beverage offering than some places (Izze sodas in addition to Pepsi products and bottled water), which is nice. We'll definitely be back again and again.

I love this place. The owners love this place. You can tell through their hospitality, and quality of food. I make my own middle eastern food, but there is no point after this place opened. The falafel are crisp, and nicely spiced. The fries are delicious, and sprinkled with herbs that taste almost magical. None of the food needs anything, but they have the most creative and delicious sauces. The sauces seem to be their own creations, and are worth trying all. Why are you still reading this? Just visit there already!

I'm having a problem finding great middle eastern style food in this area. The best places I believe are in Chicago. But for the area, this place will have to do. The owner is super nice & friendly. Food is ready in a great timely manner. Just lacks a hint of flavor.

  • Monkean M.

We have ordered from Falafelji several times. The food is always good, especially the shwarma. They have tasty sauces and the rice is really good as well. The people are always friendly. In fact, a few times I have been there waiting for my food and one of the guys comes out with a hot falafel for us to taste. My only complaints are the pita (from a bag) and the lack of delivery. If they made their own pitas and delivered, I'd give them 5 stars.

First time visiting here. They made my Falafels fresh when I ordered. You could tell the staff was paying close attention to detail as they made my sandwich. 2 bites into it, i knew that this was the best Falafel sandwich I've ever had!

I love this place! As a person that's grown up on this food, I'm thrilled to have this unassuming little store front about a mile from home. The owners and workers already feel like family, which makes every visit fun and welcoming. The food: The lentil soup is perfect. Warm and hearty with a bit of fresh squeezed lemon on top... YUM. It's great for cold crappy days like today (2/22). The shawarma platters and wraps are good, but I love the shish kefta platter or wrap. It reminds me of home... The meat is moist and the spices are exactly how I remember -- allspice, garlic, cinnamon (hint of) -- especially slathered in the garlic mayo. That garlic sauce is ubiquitous in Detroit. Chicago needs that sauce on everything. Now about the falafel. It's delicious. I read in other comments that the falafel balls are small. They are, but who cares? I think they're better that way. That way they're not dry or crumbly inside. Besides that, they don't skimp on them in their wraps. There isn't a non-falafel-filled bite in any of the wraps my husband and I have eaten. They have mjadara too. And it's good... If you're a vegetarian, this is a delicious dish of lentils and rice with sauteed onions mixed throughout. I remember when my mom would make this... it's complete with a side of yogurt. Oh... those garlic-herb fries deserve a mention! I think the chopped herbs are garlic greens or something. YUM! Dip them in any of their sauces and it's a party in your mouth. I love the black olive garlic sauce... an awesomely stinky tapenade. We've tried nearly everything on the menu... I can't recommend this place enough!!

This place is quite the find it it's area. The food is homemade and delicious. The owner is so friendly and offers free samples of his dishes. His lentil soup is amazing! The best I've ever had. Other great items include the wraps and delicious sauces. If you love healthy Mediterranean food this is the place. They offer vegan/vegetarian friendly options as well. It's great for carry-out but also has a couple of tables.

so I found this place by accident. I'm glad i did. The owner was really nice and treated me to a few samples as i waited for my food. ther lentil soup is made fresh daily.. and it is FANTASTIC!! falafel? EXCELLENT.. and there are just a few places to make them fantastic, Falafelji nails it! I had their combination plate, and it gave me a very good sample of the food quality of the different kind of meats.. they did a nice job. the food is very delicious. i will be coming back, again and again.. you should too!

Mmm mmm and yuuum yuuum is how I describe the food! I usually come here for lunch and every now and then on the weekends. It's fresh and healthy. I go for the chicken kabob but now and then explore the menu. No complaints. If you're watching carbs you can substitute for roasted vegetables. So delicious! The owner is friendly and he makes you feel welcomed. Don't be surprised if he calls you by name. He won't forget. If you are looking for something different in the area then stop in. You won't regret. Oh and the name is awesome. It means Falafel Guy in his native language. He'll tell you the story!

What a welcome addition to the neighborhood! All items were very tasty and the service, super friendly. The kabobs were excellent and so was the Shawerma. Next time we'll be trying the falafel and lentil soup for sure.

We stopped in recently because we love Middle Eastern food and were thrilled to find a place near us. The Falafel sandwiches were moist and tasty. In addition, the employees and owner were friendly and very welcoming. Went back a second time, and found equally good food and friendly service. My only suggestion is to make the portions, in general, a little more generous, in relation to the price. Other than that, the food is delicious and well prepared.

Went here to to hopefully find a good falafel place closer to our house. We ordered the Chicken Shawarma platter, 1/2 dozen falafel and an order of hummus. Chicken Shawarma itself was very dry, like burned dry. I don't know if the cook was new or that's how they serve it but it tasted like someone forget about it on the grill and then decided to give it to me. For the price I expected more chicken, as the serving of chicken was very small. The rice that was served with it though was actually pretty good as was the grilled vegetables and salad. Falafel was pretty good, you had pretty good flavor, tried it with the tahini sauce that wasn't bad. The hummus was by far the worst hummus I have ever had. As in worse than some grocery store prepackaged stuff. It had no flavor whatsoever. Like none. It was horrible. Service was slow, maybe we went at a bad time (Saturday night), but we waited almost 25 minutes for take out.

This is my new favorite place for Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. Everything was reasonably priced and tasted great. All ingredients were fresh. Staff was very kind and helpful. Although would like to see if they could make their pita bread from scratch/homemade, if they would have done this I would have made it 5 stars instead of 4. Hope this place stays around for a long time!

Made an online order. Then 15 minutes later I receive a call informing me they couldn't take care of me for over an hour and a half. Food sounds good according to other reviews, but bad service is something I won't deal with

Yum...it is about time that we got a good Mediterranean place in the western burbs. I am tired of heading into the city for food like this. The falafel is great and I have loved all of their soups. Very reasonable priced and everything tastes freshly made.

Well maybe this place will be a go in Lyons but not in Lagrange, Lets start with the cold decor, very unwelcoming, and looks like you just walked in unexpected,no smells, no warmth, nothing to make you say "wow this might be good" now for the food, we ordered the chicken Kabob plate, the portion was good, But that's where it stopped, everything on that plate was so overloaded with the same HOT spice (not mid-eastern),our mouths were on fire for a hour after, and we love spicy, this was like a cayenne hot, and the rice, I know you make it ethnic style but whats wrong with trying to appeal to more people with just a nice mild Basmati, the salad, eighter chop it or don't , this in between is not working, and another word of advise, go to the dollar store if you have to and buy some REAL plates, those plastic/Styrofoam might work in a school cafeteria or prison but I certainly don't want to have my DINNER on those, and if you have to do plastic ware get some a little sturdier, we could hardly get a full bite of of them, I do realize you just opened but 1st impressions are what makes people come back and spread the word, we have lived in Lagrange for 36 years and seen many restaurants come and go , and if you want to stay you need to try and make it more appealing to the Lagrange palate.........

I can't even believe how good this place is! I have had plenty of middle eastern food and this place was the best. You have to get the steak shewarma. I normally get chicken, but the steak was out of this world. The people are so nice and so helpful, so if you aren't familiar with this kind of food, it's not intimidating at all. This is my new favorite place in the burbs!

Love the Lyons Falafel Guy!! Everyone I've recommended Falafelji to loves the place! Excellent food, great customer service (I've only done pick up or carry out). My personal reason for frequenting them is the falafel recipe. I buy uncooked and bake them in my toaster oven at home, I don't often eat fried foods. I have tried the fried falafel, this guy knows what he is doing. I work for a corporate Mediterranean chain, and I absolutely love their healthy food but when I want the best falafel that I often crave; Falafelji is my guy!

A friend tipped us off to this new addition to restaurants near our home. We went for lunch and were very happy to have this place nearby! I had a chicken schwarma (sp?) sandwich which was fresh tasting and delicious. My husband had a chicken kabab sandwich which he loved. We're looking forward to going back and trying other menu items.

We ten blocks from this place and are very happy to have found it. We went there tonight for the first time and were very pleased with the freshness, the guality and the preparation of the foods. The menu has your usual mid-eastern or Mediterranean selections, but very well done. Perfect for take out or delivery. Well priced. Large portions. We ate there and it was simple, but very clean. So glad to have a healthy and local alternative to fast food on the nights when I just don't feel up to cooking.

This was my first time ordering from Falafeji....the chicken shawarma was fantastic! Very flavorful! I ordered falafels and they were really good too. The lentil soup was not the best (I got several different items to taste...the only one that I didn't like was the soup) ...the staff was very friendly and helpful
