Can't believe we haven't been to this place before!!! They had a very unique menu with lots of things I'd love to try. I had the roasted duck and it was amazing. Very tender!! The best thing was that it was underpriced. I don't get a meal like that at some places I spend twice the money. Oh and we had a great server as well. I will be returning!

    - the reviews don't lie! - Came in for lunch was a little skeptical due to the lack of reviews but WOW I was impressed I ordered the sea bass $11 definitely the best value I have ever had for sea bass. Generous portion, cooked to perfection and the sauce

I had never been here and since my husband and I work just around the corner, we came for lunch. I didn't really have that high of expectations, honestly. But coming in from 9 degree temps, the space was warm and inviting. Seating is pretty limited but we came at a good time and didn't have to wait for a table. The restaurant is long and narrow but is broken up so it feels pretty intimate. My husband's favorite thing from America's Bistro (closed restaurant by the same owners) was their crab cakes with champagne sauce. Sadly they weren't on the menu, but "Seafood Cakes" were. I shyed away as "seafood" is too loosely used for my taste but my husband ordered it. I ordered from a "Build Your Own Pasta" menu (pick your noodle and sauce basically. I don't think there was an option to add a protein?) and had bow-tie pasta with brandy cream sauce. Food was very good. The seafood cakes were awesome and of course the housemade champagne sauce is always popular. My pasta was good and the brandy cream is a delicious alternative to alfredo. Very happy with our food selections. The restaurant was really busy and our service was slow, but friendly. It took a pretty long time for our food to come out. Our waiter brought out rolls after delivering our food, and it would have been nice if we had gotten them earlier so we had something to munch on during our wait. Overall the quality and price (for the lunch menu) was great. I would definitely come back.

Run by the same folks who brought you America Bistro, and it shows. Just like AB, the food is mediocre, over-priced and poor service. We decided to give them a try after reading some of the complimentary reviews. It would seem that a lot of people have never experienced really good food or service; or they happened to visit the place on some lucky occasion. The "crab cakes" are actually "seafood cakes" and awful at that. Plenty of old, frozen fish went into the making of these. They were served almost completely submerged in their champagne sauce. My guess in to try to cover up the poor taste and texture. Many of their entrees are served swimming in the champagne sauce. Which on it's own is not all that good. It doesn't come close to rehydrating the dry and tough chicken that is served. Try to get a drink refill and you'll stand a better chance at a mirage in the Sahara. The service staff is inattentive and aloof. But they do have one thing that many restaurants are missing these days...consistency. AB had poor food/service and so does Rigo's. Kankakee has an over-abundance of dives, fast food and attempts at trendy. We don't need another one. Rigo's: do us a favor and close your doors! Perhaps someone else will take over the building and make a good meal.

Just found this hidden treasure in the Kank today. Took my friend for a birthday lunch & we stumbled upon Rigo's & couldn't have been more pleased! The crab cakes were the best I've had in a long time & the service was wonderful. Chill & relaxed placed with lots of choices for lunch. I would def go back again!

Some of the best food to be found in Kankakee was America's Bistro. The more we went there though, the more the service went downhill until it became unbearable. We were eventually reduced to only ordering their delicious food for carry-out and foregoing the entire bistro experience. You may or may not know that America's Bistro closed to the public (still open for catering) awhile ago. However, the owners are back with a new culinary attempt called Rigo's Cafe. We had no idea what to expect, but upon visiting their website and seeing my favorite crab cakes in the entire world on their menu I knew we had to give it a go. We went in for lunch on Saturday around 11:30. We knew it was early and they had just opened, so were surprised that there were a few other parties there dining as well. The environment is a mixture of chic and industrial--you can see the aluminum pipe works above you. It's an oddly beautiful combination that makes for the perfect ambiance. Here's the scoop on the food: -Bread - very fresh, piping hot and delicious. They were happy to bring us another basket after we devoured the first one. -Garden salad - came with some balsamic vinegar on the side. Also very fresh. -Fish soup - I did not like at all. I like my broth a little thicker with the ingredients chopped very fine. This was more of a vegetable soup (with big chunks of veggies) with fish in it. Probably the only menu item I can say I didn't enjoy. -Crab cakes with champagne sauce. Same great sauce that I enjoyed so much at America's Bistro. Here, I'll just copy my bistro review since I feel the same: "Let me start off by saying this, if I could only have one food item for the rest of my life, it would definitely be the crab cakes. It's like God spoke to the chef and said, "My child, I will help you make the most perfect sauce." " -Chicken marsala with mushrooms and mashed potatoes. I'm not a fan of skin-in mashed potatoes, but these were pretty good. The marsala sauce was lick the plate good (I refrained though) while the chicken was a bit tough. I needed a steak knife to cut it. I still liked it though. -Chopped steak with sauteed onions and mashed potatoes. I only got a few bites of this, but I loved the chopped steak and would probably order it next time I went back. Service was shockingly fantastic too. We were greeted immediately and our waters were never empty. The only thing that was weird to me is it being called a cafe, I expected more 'lunchy' items-- sandwiches, soup, light pasta salads. I would have liked to see more of these types of offerings, as most options were just smaller portions of their dinner menu.

Had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. Food was excellent and prices were reasonable. Tried the pumpkin ravioli appetizer. Not something that sounds very good but WOW it really was. Nice little gem in Kankakee. I hope they stay open, this area needs some place like this.

Diamond in the rough! Adorable little bistro setting offering very different menu items. Many seafood related items (would have liked to have seen more non-seafood items) but everything we had (a party of 8) was very good. This is not a kid-friendly establishment, more for the finer affair. Seats approx 40 in a small dinning area.

Really great atmosphere and friendly staff. It had the feel and menu of an upscale restaurant with the sort of casualness of a small cafe. Everything from the music to the food was perfect. We ordered the saganaki to start and it was very good. For the main course we got chicken and pork tenderloin. It was cooked perfectly. The salad was also fresh and the bleu cheese dressing was excellent. Our waiter was quick with refills and asking us if we needed anything else. The only thing that may put off some people is the price. For two people and a tip it came to over 50 dollars, but for the same tupe of food in the city you would be paying a lot more. So it's not going to be cheap but for the food you get it is worth it. I would recommend Rigo's Cafe to anyone looking for a good date night restaurant.

The Sea Bass was top notch! The daily special, boneless Cornish Hen, was also very good. I would recommend Rigo's for a great lunch. Will try it again for dinner...

Food was delicious! The white fish special was fabulous! My husband's chicken was very good as well. The service on the other hand wasn't so good. Our server was quite inattentive; our water glasses were empty several times, she didn't stop by to check on us, and she was not very friendly.

Being originally from Kankakee, Illinois, I tend to go back down to visit family. On this particular occasion, I wanted to take my Mom out for a Mother's Day date. When I asked her where she wanted to go, I thought FOR SURE she was going to say the Olive Garden. But, to my surprise she told me there was this place called Rigo's Cafe in Kankakee, that the local radio station was RAVING about... She told me they said the food was like eating downtown...but with the Kankakee prices. Not that it mattered. She wanted to go, and I was down with it. So We Got Down To This Little Building That Said Rigo's Cafe... The rest of the review can be seen here ----- bit.ly/rigos-cafe

Upon arrival the place was nearly empty. That doesn't make us worry. We felt bad after eating that this place isn't enjoyed more since the food was awesome. Hopefully word spreads! There is no kids menu but the chef made anything that the kiddos wanted to order. And he his attitude towards it was enthusiastic while aiming to make sure we were happy with our visit. Menu was good size while offering many choices to satisfy any palate. Liquor is served here too but we did not imbibe. My wife had the veal Marsala and was extremely satisfied. I ordered the salmon and asparagus with the risotto. The salmon and the dill sauce were fantastic. The risotto was tasty but average as far as preparation went. The desserts menu was limited but overwhelming due to the tasty choices that we had to make. We wanted to order every item on the list. The chef brought us the white chocolate mousse with fresh strawberries. It was out of this world good! We ordered two more with one to go. We definitely will make this our go to family restaurant. Well done to Rigo's chef and staff!! See you soon.
