Hot dogs aren't bad. Nothing real special either tho. Great customer service. Has a cool old drive up diner feel to it. The root beer is what will make me come back. Very good, thick creamy feel. Seemed to have a slight Carmel taste to it. It would be great in a just out of the freezer mug. I'll have to go back to try the other types of sausages they offer.

All they have is root beer and water. I'm not really a fan of rootbeer, but it tasted okay. The hot dogs were okay. Not much of a menu. No fries, just chips. Cash only. The man stays in business, however, with a straight-forward business model. Extremely streamlined. You do get your food lighting fast and the owner is pleasant. Don't think I'll ever come back, though.

I love Hey Hot Dog! I love the hot dogs, the fact that it is a simple, bare bones restaurant and I love that the owner recognizes us ever time we come in. I don't drink soda but my husband thinks the root beer is outstanding. We have been coming to this Joliet icon for more than 10 years, ever since we discovered it in college. There are a few things you should know. This is not Joe's hot dogs. Hey Hot dog does not have fries, onion rings or tamales. It is a simple, basic, hot dog joint that cooks their dogs on a roller. If you want great tasting hot dogs this is the place to go. Save Joe's for your midnight snack runs.

I've been eating here since I was a little kid. I remember they had a location on the east side of Joliet but things changed over the years and they moved to this location. The hot dogs are great, the polish are the best in the city. the Regular root beer is home made, the diet root beer is A&W. Sometimes he makes soup or chili. Also occassionally has fish during lent. Great place.

I love this place delicious hot dogs and great rootbeer! It's a must stop for me everytime I am out in Joliet. The owner is really nice and it's a comfortable clean place to eat! I typically get 2 hot dogs with cheese and ketchup and a big frosty mug of rootbeer. So yummy I wish it was closer! BTW: I only eat ketchup on cheese dogs lol

Another great old iconic Joliet institutuion. This place is all about the dogs and the root beer. The hot dogs were of better quality than you would find in sonic. Root beer is not my favorite drink, but the type they have is prettty awsome as far as root beer goes.

I know what's the best thing in town and it can be found here.... It's the root beer!!! That gives this place a 5stars from me. I recently brought my girlfriend here on our visit from California and she has never had any root beer like it ever. The dogs are dogs and pretty good with the frosted glass of root beer to go with. Just stop in and get the beer if you pass by and don't like dogs.

Are you all sure that it was A&W Root Beer? I lived a few blocks from that place and I always thought it was "home made" root beer. The stuff was to DIE for!!! I can remember purchasing some "to go" and they would give it to you in a half-gallon container (similar to the plastic ones used for milk) and it was SUPER sweet!!! Oh yeah, the hot dogs were something special there. I was in Joliet a couple years ago and visited the place...I was able to eat like a red-neck king, and stuff my face for under $5...the place is still criminally cheap. Did anyone else in Joliet call it the "Orange Place" when growing up or was that just my weird circle of firiends? We would just be sitting around on some lazy summer day or weekend and say to each other, "Anyone up for going to the Orange Place?"...no doubt, we'd be there in an instant. Thanks, Hey Hot Dog, for being one of the few reasons that I look on Joliet with any sort of fond memories; which are few and far between for that armpit of a town.....

These are the people who had the old A&W root beer stand in Joliet years ago, You won't find a better Chili dog or Barbecue in Joliet and the root bear is the same as it was when I was a kid, well worth the trip.

This place is as good as it gets for chili dogs and root beer. The dogs are always fresh and on fresh buns. The chili dogs are wonderful. The root beer has a unique taste. The owner ("B.J.") makes just enough conversation to keep you happy for 10 minutes, and then it's time to go. Five stars. Top notch for what it is.

I was here the other day with my uncle. I had the polish sausage the way i like it. Mustard, onions, pickles and giardiniera. I had some chips and a frosty mug of home made root beer. I then had a second polish sausage the way the owner likes it. He called it the owners special. Polish with mustard, hot horseradish, onions, sauerkraut and black pepper. OMG!!! I could eat this forever.

Cheap, American, Hot Dogs + Root Beer. That's pretty much all you need to know about Hey Hot Dog. The dogs are simple and cheap. Don't expect fancy gourmet dogs with tons of toppings...they have simple dogs with simple, classic toppings (cheese + Jalapenos is a good combo). And you don't even get a plate to put it on (I loved this). The root beer is amazing. Served in chilled mugs and poured from the tap, it's sweet and delicious. It's cold enough to turn itself into a slushy as you drink it. The owner is a really friendly guy too. He'll listen to your stories and even has a few of his own. I also like how the place is nice and quiet. No annoying TV or crappy radio playing in the background, just a friendly, chill environment.

This is a Joliet staple. It's a small place with a small counter, but the owners are nice and the food is cheap & good. They offer a really exceptional array of toppings and delicious hot dogs. But! I come here for the regular home-made root beer. I never had home-made, not conglomerate-produced root beer before being introduced to theirs, and it's soooo good. They serve it to you in a frosted mug, or you can buy liters of it to take home. Very cool.

I have been trying to hit some of the hot dog joints in the Joliet area where I have been driving through a lot lately. Also tried this place due to the reviews I have read. My first thought in my head after stopping here was that I made a mistake. While ordering found out they only have root beer and water, chips no fries, hot dogs are grilled not steamed, and not all my favorite toppings. But they do offer a lot of other toppings that you usually don't find, sauer kraut, horse radish, chili, and various peppers. Choose a root beer, and the guy pulls out a frosted mug on the cooler, my soda actually had a layer of ice on it. This was a great touch. Also to my surprise was the grilled hot dog was pretty tasty. The owners seemed to be very friendly and made you feel welcome in their place. You can either sit at the counter and catch some TV or grab a table and watch traffic go by.

Growing up there was nothing better than to go to Hey Hot Dog. They have the little swivel stools.. great chili and cheese dogs and... frosted mugs of A&W rootbeer. Also when I went to high school, I soon realized that the hot twins from the hockey team started working there as their after school job. Yum xs 2. In the summer you could hop over there and get some dawgs, buy some scratch offs, and watch the ballgame (the white sox that is) on the tele. The owner would chat it up with you (even though he's a cubs fan he's still awesome.) It's warm. It's home. Black cows. Some of the best hot dogs around. I miss the root beer here so much. You could bring home half gallon or gallon jugs of it from the tap. It's a must stop for when I go back... I loved it as a kid and my kids do as well now.

The best hot dog and root beer in Joliet! What can beat fishing conversation with the owner over the best dog and beer?

Best chili dogs and root beer around. Way better than Joes. If he would just get some tomatoes. ..

Super friendly staff. Hot dogs are good but the polish are even better. The root beer is the best.

Exceptional root beer and chili dogs. I stop here whenever I can...worth a detour if you are not heading to Joliet...

Hot dogs that come off the rollers you see at the gas station. Root beer is acceptable. But this is a hot dog place. A hot dog place that is limited on what they offer. So if you want the roller dog with what they think should be on a hot dog than this is your place. If you prefer a chicago dog go somewhere else

If you like grilled hot dogs on fresh Milano buns this is the place to go. Most hot dog places "cook" their hot dogs in tepid warm water. To me, grilled is much better. The chili dogs are really good. No beans in the chili.

Love this place when ever we are in town we stop by. The only issue is its cash and chips only, but I get over that. Love chili dogs and home made root beer. Yummy.

I've always enjoyed this place, The BBQ was my mom's favorite when I was growing up, I always loved his Polish Sausages. It's 2nd Generation ownership, and BJ knows everyone in town! He makes his soups fresh everyday when he serves soup in the winter, and often has daily specials. The taste of this food hasn't changed in the 25 years I can remember going here. It's always amazing, always a great value, and tax is always included in the price! Sure prices have gone up, but not much compared to other hot dog stands in town.
