Hey for a small town family style dinner, this isn't bad. We manage to come on Sunday. They now have a buffet all week, but each day have an All You Can Eat special. Sunday they offer fried haddock, with a side, for $8.99. It is deep fried, so it may be greasy, but for someone craving fish, its not bad. For $1.99 extra you can add a salad bar, which is fresh, if not a large selection of items.

A hometown treasure on the main strip. The breakfast is down home cooking. Do not expect extremely healthy cooking. Keep in mind where you are if you eat here. This is a hard working farming community that enjoys hearty eating. The food is fresh and the gravy made from scratch. The restaurant is simple and well kept even though it show it's age. The only draw back is the limited parking in front. They have week day specials as well. I would recommend going with someone who frequents the establishment your first time so you know what is good to order and the best time to go.

This is a very typical small town diner. The service is sketchy at best unless you are a recognized regular. The food is OK, but nothing too special. I used to come here with my Aunt and Uncle for breakfast. My Uncle was one of the regulars with his own coffee mug on the wall. I don't think I would ever go without him there, because we always go special treatment, and i doubt I would want to deal with being ignored as a customer without it.

Our daughter is in band at JCHS and had to play at a local game so my husband decided that instead of making the trip into town twice (we live about a half an hour away) we would go out to dinner for the 2 hours she would be at the school. He said he had heard from an employee that this was a great local restaurant to try and since we're new to the area we decided to give it a go. We walked in and were shocked at the sheer size of the place, it looks like a converted department store. Tables are spread from one end of the place to the other with a central wait station in the middle of it all. We waited at the door until one of the two servers on duty noticed us and let us know to sit "anywhere". We figured that since the wait station was central to the building and most of the other patrons were towards the back of the building nearer to the kitchen we would grab a booth a nearer to the station itself but away from the majority of the other patrons for a little privacy figuring we should still get service ok without running a servers legs off, yeah, that was a mistake. Apparently they only stop by the wait station if they're ringing up a ticket otherwise they're somewhere up near the kitchen (which is why the rest of the patrons had crowded into that area it seems). We waited for a few minutes before one of the servers came over, she let us know that she wasn't our server but was dropping off menu's and took our drink orders. So far so good, right? I noticed that there was a "salad bar" listed on the menu and since i'm a sucker for a good salad bar i decided to go check it out to see if it was worth it. I looked around and finally spotted it, all the way up towards the kitchen (which makes complete sense) but seriously walking through the building with all those tables crowded around to get to the salad bar felt rather awkward and once i got there i noticed the "salad bar" had about 3 types of lettuce, some shredded carrots, cherry tomatoes and a couple choices of salad dressing. Not even any cottage cheese or shredded cheese which are both musts, in my mind, before i consider a salad bar to actually BE a salad bar. Seriously, they could just list "house salad" on their menu and not have to worry about dumping fresh greens out each night. It took about 15 minutes total before our actual server came to the table, she didn't introduce herself and with no name tag i have no idea what her name was but she wasn't very engaging. We placed our order and asked for drink refills since our drinks were empty by then. She took our glasses and refilled them, brought them back and plopped them down without saying a word. It took about half an hour or so before we got our dinners which were not bad but also not worth the near hour we had waited so far. During our meal we never saw our waitress again, at one point i had to get up and ask the other waitress if we could get drink refills, she very nicely let us know that she would get them once she was done ringing up a couple of her tickets, i hesitated to leave our cups with her and didn't really understand why, since i was right there, she couldn't just refill them then and let me take them back to the table myself but since she never turned around to look at me while i stood there i went ahead and set them down and let her know the cups were behind her. She nodded at me without turning around. By this time my husband was pretty peeved. We watched other patrons who appeared to be regulars not only getting consistent service but pleasant conversation as well, meanwhile we waited for our drinks to come back to the table. Finally, our actual server happened to look up from another table she was chaatting with and i caught her eye. She excused herself and came over, i let her know that my drinks were at the station but that the other server must have "gotten distracted", she went and got our drinks, hopefully in new cups since there was no way should could have known who's cups were sitting there. When she came back she dropped them off and hurried away saying nothing other than "diet, and regular" as she placed them in front of us. We finished our meal without seeing her again and after sitting there and growing nervous about the time since we needed to go and pick up our daughter soon i finally caught the other servers eye and beckoned. We asked if she could have the other server bring our check and she said she would. About 5 minutes later the server did just that, dropping the check off as she walked by but not saying anything. At this point we wished we had cash so we could just leave it on the table and go but since we only had the card with us i practically waved the check in the air to get her to come back and ring us up. We probably would not bother to go back to this restaurant as we weren't made to feel valued or welcome in the least.

11 Two star reviews. Roughly 10% of my reviews to this point. The food, is hit or miss, and they do so in a big time way. The horseshoe, pony and anything else that requires a bit of freshness is key. The service is terrible. I'm sorry, I understand. It's a large area, with minimal staff but if you take an incorrect order, or something is wrong, please don't just stare at us, waiting for further instruction. Take some initiative, and fix the problem. See that's part of your job, service. Pork chops/tenderloin/fritters are dry. Chicken is typical, but the Horseshoes are absolutely delicious.

While some of the food is average, you just have to know what to order, which is anything they make from scratch-pies and potato salad are great. We like the fish fritters as well. The apple pecan pie is wonderful. We've always had good service here.

Bad Service and Bad Food. The is typical dive style, but is not served hot fresh just old and greasy. The wait staff here needs a lesson in manners as well.
