Driving from Minneapolis to our home in Orlando, we stopped for coffee at the nearby McDonald's, but noticed a rib joint (with a real smoker in the parking lot). We quickly ditched the coffee idea and stopped at Uncle Joe's for lunch. No hyperbole here: they served us the best ribs we've ever had. The sauces are great, we actually bought a few bottles, but the meat is out of this world. Smokey, but not overpowering at all, and the ribs are moist but tender. There is not much atmosphere in the restaurant, but who cares when you get nice staff, great food and great service. I'd give them a 5 star, but I thought their prices were similar to restaurant prices in Orlando or Minneapolis...still not bad for the wonderful meal. I guess quality never comes cheap.

We always stop here on our way to TN. BYPASS MCDONALDS!! They don't need the money and even if you aren't a bbq fan, whatever Joe's is serving 10 times better than garbage fast food. Come hungry as it is pretty heavy stuff but delicious. I always get the pulled pork but have tried the brisket and that is delicious, too. The meat is excellent and I love all the sauces. The sweet smoke is my favorite and my husband likes the mustard. My only complaint is that they are far away from my hometown. The buns are a tad too buttery but not a deal breaker in my opinion. Just ask for a plain bun!

This is five stars for those of you looking for good BBQ and fried pickles. The atmosphere is part general store, part smoke house. Shirt and shoes may be optional. Hospitality is wonderful. Worth bypassing the fast food to try this.

Stopped here for a quick lunch on the way home to Kansas City. The staff was very friendly and the place was very clean. I had the pulled pork and baked beans and my wife had the smoked turkey sandwich and chili. The pulled pork was good/decent but the smoked turkey was out of this world amazing! Let's not forget the chili, it was to die for! Good flavor and not too spicy. While the baked beans were good I found them to be on the sweet side so if that isn't your thing I'd avoid it. I preferred the smoked sweet BBQ sauce they offered over the others since it had a smoky robust flavor. The seasoned fries were also delicious. So if you are passing through here definitely give this place a try.

I would have given 5 stars for the food. It was great. We ordered one combo plate for 2 people and it filled us up. But the tables were not clean, the floor was not clean and the bathrooms have not been cleaned in a while. Also the personnel were wearing the sloppy clothes youd wear at home doing chores and they look unprofessional. No one came down to our end of the dining room to clean while we were there. It was hard to find a clean place to sit. And although there are nice seats out side on the patio, there is no shade. If you clean it up I will give 5 stars. Still 100% better than McDs.

Great BBQ, cole slaw and fast service. Saw the road sign on the way home fromFlorida and thought we'd give it a try. Nice break from the road. I'll be back.

Fabulous! I had the sampler - ribs, brisket, pork. Enough leftovers for a great snack. Unique tastes, all flavorful. So tasty no need for sauce (but it was really good). I highly recommend this place!

Stopped here on our way home from Florida. Had BBQ in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. This is the best we had and from Southern Illinois. Bought a bottle of sauce for home, will be ordering some off their web site. Killer.

I just love this place...Uncle Joe is no longer inside a gas station he has moved into a brand new restaurant across the street...I found this place 3 years ago and have not eaten any other BBQ sauce since! I love his XXX hot sauce...so tasty! You can order it on-line from his website eatunclejoes.com which is what I do because we live close to Chicago. If you are in southern Illinois stop by his new place. I always got the pulled pork which is really tasty but today I got the brisket...OH MY GRAVY...so good I got some to take home...Burgers are fantastic as well...I give Uncle Joe 10 stars!!!

The more I think about my meal here, the lower I want to rate it. We stopped here on our way to St Louis looking for some good barbecue. I would like to think they were just having a bad day, but it really just wasn't very good. I got a pulled pork sandwich. The pork tasted a little off, was VERY fatty, and was served on a heavily buttered roll (which would have been good, were the meat lean, but just added to the greasy feeling). The sides (my brother had seasoned fries that they forgot to season & I had potato salad) were ok, but just ok. Their one saving grace was they had several sauces that were all quite good. I feel this restaurant deserves another chance, but after eating two of the best BBQ meals I've ever had in St Louis & Kansas City, I can't imagine stopping here again even if I was in the area (which is unlikely)

Ok, so maybe the place doesn't rate on the scale of regional BBQ legends but I don't understand the harshness of the criticisms on here. It certainly beats McD across the way, and I found that certain pairings were exponentially more appealing than others. Then there were the signature crockpot pork 'n beans..sweet, savory, meaty goodness As to the pairings, I found that the Hot BBQ sauce went equally well on both the ribs and pulled pork that I enjoyed, but not so well as the Sweet Smoke to the ribs and the Sweet Mustard to the pulled pork. The dry rub on the ribs was flavorful but not overpowering, and both meats were tastefully balanced between dry and moist such that either could be enjoyed either dry or sauced :D (As a loyal saucer, this last point is of particular significance to me personally) All in all, if you're in the area and anywhere near hungry, this spot would not be a waste of your time

On my way to Nashville, TN, and I just happened to recognize the sign from the BBQ sauce I get at the store. I waited in line for 10 minutes & they were out of chicken & that's all I can have right now. I'd love to try this place, but as much as I love their sauce, this wasn't a great first impression.

This review is for Uncle Joe's BBQ. Newly opened, but wonderful. The best BBQ I've had in a while. Worth the stop.

Burger & bologna sandwich were great although they need to upgrade from the plain white bread on their sandwiches , i mean come on. The brisket was incredibly dry, the chicken salad sandwich was also put on plain white wonder bread & was extremely soggy! Baked beans were really good. ****My only advice is if you're ordering one of their sandwiches that comes on plain white bread ask them to grill the bread....Your welcome lol

Brisket was great. With the BQQ sauce it was an awesome. Much better than the McD's across the road. Took about 5-10 minutes for our food to be ready. It was pretty expensive. A brisket Sandwhich and cheese fries was $11.40. My friend had the sloppy joe fries and highly recommended them.

Great sauces, however the BBQ was totally lacking a true BBQ Taste. It appeared that nothing was smoked. The brisket without sauce was dry. The ribs appeared baked, the smoke sausage was grey and looked boiled. The sides we has, beans and slaw were a generous portion of each and were the best part of the meal. Fairly sure we won't be back

Choices off Interstate 57 are very limited. This place is a very clean and good spot. I wish my BBQ pork sandwich was more inspired and delicious. It lacks something and really didn't impress me all that much. Seemed bland and middle of the road. The sauces were awesome both the Sweet (tangy) and the "XXX hot" were great! I mixed the two together since the XXX Hot hits your throat more than your tongue. The best thing about my lunch was definitely the baked beans. I really liked the baked beans but wished there was more love and care on the smoked pork sandwich. I'm just used to The amazing pork shoulder roast that my wife does at home. Uncle Joe's is a great spot and I do recommend it but definitely don't get your hopes up as this being an amazing top notch barbecue joint. It's average. Sure I will go here again if I have a chance driving from Missouri up to Chicago on a work trip, but will try something else on the menu besides the pork sandwich. Stop in and judge for yourself. It's uncle Joe's is definitely way better than McDonald's or subway. This place just isn't in my top 10 for best barbecue joints. Buy the sauce in a bottle on the way out. They sell some delicious sauces!!!

Thank you yelp reviewers! We are on the road home and needed something quick that wasn't fast food. This BBQ is way better than the Jack Stack we had in KC last night for 1/3 the cost! Plus a bottle of the delicious bbq sauce, and a bag of bones for our dog for $3.

Very good barbecue at reasonable prices right off the interstate at the Ina exit. Doesn't look like much from the parking lot, but they have an array of good BBQ options and good sides. Be nice if they added pork rinds to the menu, though they sell presaged ones from elsewhere in their "store" section.

Finally rolled the dice and ventured into Uncle Joe's BBQ, and we're really glad we did. We tried a little bit of brisket, ribs, and bologna with sides of slaw and beans. Plus I had to try their fried pickles, tasty! Everything was good and our favorite BBQ sauce was the sweet one, but the original was delicious, too. The two men working were friendly and helpful. By the time we left, the place was packed.

We were driving thru and weren't going to make it to Memphis in time to eat so I checked yelp and found this place. Reviews looked good. Plenty of parking outside nice looking building inside and out. The girl at the register seemed a little rude when taking our order. I ordered the pick 3. I got the smoked Turkey which was awesome, tender and juicy. I also got the beef brisket which tasted and looked old tough and dry. It tasted like it was days old. Absolutely nasty. And my third pick was the ribs. You get 2 ribs. 2 small ribs which again tasted and looked old and dry. My husband got the boneless pork sandwich which would have been amazing if half the sandwich wasn't fat. The seasoned fries that came with it had so much seasoning on them they were nasty. Would you like a little fry with your seasoning? This place was ridiculous. The food was nasty the portion size of the pick 3 was smaller then 1 serving anywhere else. It was tiny. The pork sandwich was a nice size with 2 pieces of meat. The sauces were the best part. They do have good sauce. I expect it didn't help that everyone working were teenagers... We will not stop again.

Uncle Joe's is a deli inside the gas station opposite of Love's Travel Center (Lakeview General Store I think) right off Interstate 57 at the Ina exit. Uncle Joe is becoming locally famous for his Uncle Joe's BBQ sauce. The pulled pork sandwiches here are awesome, and you can add whatever sauce you'd like to it. They have a few to choose from. If you love the sauce (and most do), you can buy a bottle of it while you're there. They are always outgoing and nice to the customers as well.
