Atmosphere, staff and beverages very great. Food menu appears to be a work in progress. I am not sure they have a chief in the back. Caprese salad had horizontally cut tomatoes mixed with quartered tomatoes, barely any mozzarella and old or jarred pesto. Olive oil was excellent. Pizza was strange. Crust maybe was gluten free? Chicken sausage... The crust reminded us of boboli or dominoes pre baked then put under the broiler. Not horrible, but we thought they had a wood burning oven? Burger was great, smaller un American size. You have to ask for ketchup. Fries were good. Chicken entrée was un appealing. Salad nicoise was good. We will definitely go back and try the small bites and appetizers as this seems to be their focus. There is no sign outside, so look for the people sitting behind the windows.

4 Star quality food. Why 2 Stars? Value! Visrtro's menu menu is seriously overpriced for a casual family friendly restaurant. It is that, the decor is informal and comfortable, but be on notice, Vistro is an expensive casual restaurant. The appetizer was the House Ham Quesadilla - excellent, certainly large enough to share but at $12 generously priced. Next she had the Pork Milanese, mine was the new item Lamb Merguez Sausage. The Pork Milanese was excellent -polenta and peas very good and a good portion, but nothing to put its value @ $25. The Lamb Sausage was very good but it was a $15 item tops. The pickled asparagus was excellent, the potato salad was not potato salad but diced cold baked potato. The dill was there as was the arugula and both added color but little else. We love Vie and will certainly go back there again - but we will pass on Vistro. Vistro is not Vie light where you are getting Vie imaginaton at a bargain price. We will not return to Vistro - not because the food is not any good, it is - but you can do so much better in the West Suburbs for 15-20% less than what you will get at Vistro.

My husband and I ate at Vistro last Wednesday. We have enjoyed the chef's other restaurant's in the area. Namely, Vie and J. Parker Roof Top. The decor was interesting, I enjoyed the look of the restaurant although a bit too brightly lit. I did not care for the TV in the main area, perhaps there needed to be a bit more of a line of demarcation between the two area's. The food was very good but not superior. I enjoyed my Kale Salad and Brussel Sprouts. Our Tuna rare was good enough but not great. It appeared that the restaurant was attracting mostly women out for a Wednesday night. Maybe we will come back for a lunch versus dinner. On an ending positive note our server was very friendly and accommodating.

3 with potential for 4 - depends on Family or Adult restaurant - and your thoughts on cost. We were very excited - we like a lot of his dishes - though actually prefer the downtown Perennial Virant to Vie. It was billed as a family bistro - two thoughts. Pricing is more affordable than Vie but it is not an inexpensive restaurant by any means. Some of the food was outstanding but on kid appeal - not so much. Paul's kids may have a more sophisticated palate - our kids are perhaps the norm - not super adventuresome - and I think the menu misses the mark a bit. So the Good Salmon and steak very good ... would order again in a flash. Yum. Bit small plate size (so again an ok value but not at all inexpensive - no doggie bags here) Ice cream good ... Large size Pea shoots - I like hot preparation but this cold dressed one was solid - just not my preference. . Thai curry ... Nice notes of coconut and lemongrass ... Thinner less body than expected .... Rice bits interesting - sort of neutral on them. Mac and cheese ... Not cheesy enough for kids or me - more of noodles with a light cheese glaze. Not bad tasting but none of the warm comfort food I expect with that dish. Bread .. Ok still like Perennial Virant bread best. Here they charge for bread - which I don't mind (and probably healthier) though not sure the selection is what I want - so give more for the charge or let us pick the types. Milk choc/milk fine ... Iced tea really small glasses but fine Toasted ravioli ... Feel like usually had with cheese ... kids not a fan on meat I would have liked cheese more but meat could use more ... Something. But it probably said meat on the menu so jsut a matter of preference.. Cookies solid as a dessert option. Pizza ... Sorry overcooked and over cheesed ... Lacking balance and vibrancy ... 1000 feet from Vie in Western Springs the relatively Italian place (Francesca chain) does a much better pizza. This was the biggest disappointment - it wasn't that good - and it is a key kid staple. You can;t do that one safe option for me and the kids is gone. Crust seemed weird to - someone mentioned maybe Gluten Free ... I hope not. Save us from the Gluten is evil mantra. It's a pizza - dough is a crucial component. This was a miss. Noise levels pretty high. So all in all my wife and I will be back - but don't see us back with the kids anytime soon. We didn't try but the Hamburger a bit too adult .... Feel like burger/quesadilla necessary for kids traction .... Should have tried schnitzel think that would have worked for kids.

What a great new family hang out. The food is fresh, light, and delicious. I would highly recommend the kale. Yum!

Awesome cocktails & food! The service was also great. I tried the seasonal pizza and thought it was solid. For a place open less than a month I thought the "kinks" were kept to a minimum. I would def go back and recommend to others.

My boyfriend and I were very happy with our first visit to Vistro. The relaxed ambiance was warm and welcoming. For a Wednesday night, we thought it was quite busy. There was a definitely a buzz from the crowd, but not to point where we found it to be an annoyance or unable to have a conversation. It was a great energetic vibe. The staff was friendly, attentive and had excellent food recommendations. Our dinner was fantastic! For appetizers we had the Crispy Tuscan Kale and House String Cheese. We also split the Wood Roasted Cesar salad. For our entrees I had the Dab Sole and my boyfriend had the Pork Milanese. Our food was absolutely delicious!!!! The bottle of wine recommended by Glen was outstanding! We highly recommend Vistro!!!!!!

We're big fans of Vie, so we were very excited to try Vistro. We brought our three kids here at 5:45 on a Thursday. I'm sad to say that for us, the food was a let-down. Overall the best way my husband and I could sum it up was "bland." The food was just underwhelming. I had the pork Milanese, my husband had the fried chicken. My daughters asked for buttered noodles (being the fine dining girls that they are) and the portions they were served were minuscule. My son had the burger and that was probably the best meal on our table, next time my husband and I would probably just get the good old burger. I did love the restaurant itself - the decor and ambience... One suggestion - you will need a vestibule solution for cold nights like tonight since every time the front door was opened, diners near the front (like us) got a nasty chilly blast. We might try it again in a couple of months but for now, we are not racing back. Good luck, Vistro!!!

I guess my expectations were set too high. Customer service: My friend & I have been wanting to try out Chef Paul Virant's new Restaurant. We went 1:00 saturday afternoon. There were 2 other tables occupied. Hostess sat us down. Waiter came asked if we've eaten here before. we had a few questions of the menu, which he answered. we told him to give us a few minutes to decide. Well, a few minutes shouldn't be 10-15 minutes later. He took 2 other orders before he came back to see if we were ready! During this 10-15 minute wait The hostess walked by & I assume a manager a few times. None of them looked at us. When the waiter finally came back my friend said"I thought you forgot about us" his reply was "forget about you? no I wouldn't forget two beautiful ladies". I feel at a newly opened chef Virant restaurant there would be better staff. Checking on customers etc. Food: friends Margherita pizza she said was delicious. I had the mushroom quesadilla with garlic cream sauce & arugula pesto. I was very bland. asked for the check. another waitress came & picked it up brought it back & did not say a word! We put on our coats & as we were leaving the hostess was walking past us to seat other customers, no acknowledgement was given to us, walked art the bartender, same no acknowledgement either! I definitely was let down by Vistro.

Vistro may have a relaxed atmosphere, but it certainly isn't just bar food. Some of the menu items may have similar names to ordinary bar food, e.g. a BLT and a pizza ordered by 2 members of our group, but the difference is in the ingredients and skill of preparation. Several of us had the skirt steak, I chose that for the charred onions accompanying it, which were as sweet and smooth as I hoped, but the fries were near perfect too. The asparagus salad was unique with the asparagus at optimum crispness. The pea and strawberry salad my son chose looked very good too, but he was not sharing it! The only item that was slightly less than awesome in our group was the deviled eggs, which were a bit too salty. Service was attentive, not super speedy, but I would not expect that for this kind of dining experience- you are supposed to be relaxing and savoring the food and beverages here, not inhaling them!

Randolph street quality in the burbs. We have been here half a dozen times and always had a great experience. Staff is always accommodating to my young daughter, though some of the patrons have given us the stink-eye for bringing her in at dinner. Highly recommended seasonal menu.

We tried out Vistro during opening week, for my birthday. It was pretty good and has the possibilities of being great. We tried the cheddar bites, fried pickles, cheeseburger, and the pork Quesedilla. All were very good except the quesedilla. The meat was so smoky that it was overwhelming and unappetizing. For dessert we had the smores which was great. Decor was very nice. Great crowd at the bar. Tables were a mix pf couples and families with small kids. The vibe reminded us of Nicksons in La Grange which we love. Great add to the community!

I was surprised to see that Vistro had just ok reviews, but we decided to try it out anyway. I'm disappointed to say it, and I don't quite know why, but we also thought it was just ok. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were seated immediately. Wthin a few minutes someone brought us some water, but it was many more minutes by the time someone came to take our drink orders. He was apologetic, somewhat. They have a short cocktail menu, and all the cocktails seemed as if they might be sweet, more variety might be nice. Anyway, we decided to order several things and split them: deviled eggs, fried pickles, mac n cheese, and the beet salad. They were all pretty good, though nothing just jumped out at me as spectacular. We ordered their blueberry empanadas for dessert, which were very good. Unfortunately I found what I thought was a hair in mine but it was quickly replaced. Someone did stop by to tell me that they'd determined it was a bristle from the pastry brush, which I believe because it was very strange looking. Pastry brush bristle is definitely less gross and more understandable than hair, but either way the dessert was comped. The "bristle incident" didn't really even factor into my three stars, I just can't put my finger on what I didn't love about Vistro. Our waiter was a little weird and as another reviewer mentioned, the prices seem maybe a little high. We'll probably try them at least once more. We really like Vie and hope things work out for Vistro.

Having lived in Hinsdale for several years I can attest to the fact that the town, which is a wonderful place to live, can be a little on the crusty side (e,g, Judge Smails from Caddyshack crusty). So Vistro resonates with an inviting urban, period comfort that is both fresh and contemporary but also infuses classic traditional period features in the lighting, tiles, furniture that make it fit in with the charming historic downtown area shops on Washington St. The place has been open too long for the staff to be pretending to be that nice so their natural charm and friendliness resonate brightly and authentically throughout the dining experience. We ate at the bar and our bartender, who i am ashamed to say name I did not get, could not have been more professional and delightful. Paul Virant's menu is fresh and interesting, though we chose to partake in the burgers, which were good, but not a good value for the price. The fries were ordinary and could have been seasoned or splashed with my addiction Truffle Oil, bring the serving value up to the price point. Prior to the burger however, we ordered the Kale crisps, tempura battered cremini mushrooms and wood fire roasted Caesar salad. The Kale was delicious (its flash fried then drizzled with with a honey lemon brown butter) Good sized portion. My friend said the "Dots of the Eye" house cocktail - house prepared Kumquat infused vodka, chardonnay, and Cointreau and fresh ime was outstanding and ordered two after a bottle of wine so good they must have been.... Wine list is small as I'm told this is a cocktail crowd, which does not surprise me. This will be a new go to Bistro for me when in the W. Burbs.

Uneven and inconsistent are the first words that come to mind, quality and unusual variety come in second. I have eaten here on 2 occasions and carried out once. 1st time: ate at bar ordered: cream of spinach soup comments: great taste and nice bread accompaniment (bowl filled only 1/2 way--just get a smaller bowl--it looks cheesy) fried ravioli Comments:-generous portion, decent taste, nothing special, tastes like every other fried ravioli I've ever eaten Chicken and biscuits comments: seemed like a small portion, especially the biscuits, however, it was the perfect size for me and it had a great flavor. I would definitely get it again Bloody Mary-- comments: they don't make them!! What? Unacceptable-- 2nd visit: ordered: Armenian string cheese comments YUCK! YUCK! YUCK! first of all it looked like a plate of shredded mozzarella (no joke or exaggeration) the string cheese is actually shredded cheese ( and a stingy portion at that). It had an off putting flavor that I cannot accurately describe. Earthy, mossy and moldy come to mind Pasta with lemon, and other misc seasonings ( I don't remember the name) comments: I LOVED it. It had an overwhelming ground pepper taste to it, so much so that I thought it was a mistake, but I love pepper, so to me it was excellent. I don't know how much of a crowd pleaser it would be though. Take out- Pasta dish from 2nd visit comments: well I was craving that pasta dish--it was nice and light and had a unique flavor I craved. I ordered it take-out and it was not even close to the same dish. This time it had NO pepper taste at all and it overwhelmingly tasted like that horrible string cheese. Did they change the recipe? different chef? All I know is that not only did I not like it, I tossed it out. So far they have been hit or miss with me. When I order something and like it and order it again, I think it is fair to have an expectation that it will taste the same. I'll give it another shot and report back--hope you are reading these VIstro and adjusting accordingly.

Can't comment on the food because we couldn't be seated. Wanted to try the new place in Hinsdale, walked into the almost empty restaurant with a small group of people at 6PM on a Saturday and were told we couldn't be seated because it was booked until the end of the night. We asked if we could grab a drink and wait and they said they "weren't doing that." The hostess and presumably the manager standing with her didn't even try to be accommodating. Which makes total sense if you hate making money and making good impressions on people.

I really like this restaurant. I walked in for lunch and was sitting at the bar having a casual chat with the bartender. Super friendly. The owner walks over and introduces himself and says hello. This guy is very down to earth and not pretentious whatsoever. You immediately know he's genuine. I had a terrific lunch at a fair price. I was back the next week for dinner with a group of 8 to have the "wood fire experience". Absolutely terrific! Once again the owner Paul was there to explain every course and chat with us. The "copa" was mouth watering Along with every course that was brought out. I love this place. I wish Paul would open up a breakfast joint next. I'm sure it would blow "Little Goat" out of the water. A casual slightly upscale menu at fair prices.

We visited Vistro on Saturday, Jan 10th and it was packed. If you like bar food, i.e. smaller portions, pizza, sliders, etc., etc. this is the place. (They also have some full entrees which we avoided) All of it is upscale some a tad unique but very tasty. IMHO, the ambience is awesome. We had an appetizer of kale dipped into a deluded honey concoction that was very good. It was served in a healthy sized bowl where you simply fingered a small portion out and ate it; great for stimulating conversation. I suppose one could spoon it on a small plate and use a fork but where's the fun in that? I had a surf and turf of pulled pork and walleye sliders. Wonderful! My date had a mixed salad. We also had a 12" veggie pizza as a side; very refreshing taste. To finish, we shared a tasty gingerbread with candied cranberries dessert. Yummy. The seating ranged from large parties to intimate settings just for two. With high ceilings the noise, in spite of sound cushioning material, was at times challenging but did not affect good conversation. The wine list was limited. The surprise was that they served only one beer on tap. (They had bottled beers) Service was friendly but brisk; almost too brisk...they were turning tables. The table for two next to us turned twice while we were there. There were families at a few tables. While packed and brisk, we didn't feel rushed; just that the food came very quick. I don't know how they did that. The kitchen must be very well organized. With a couple of improvements, Paul Virant has a winner. Paul lives in Hinsdale so he has a lot at stake here.

Very, very disappointed after having such high hopes...A couple of decent appetizers (the cheese and crackers and the fried ravioli) followed by two poorly executed poultry dishes (extremely dry turkey wings and flavorless fried chicken) were only saved by a nice dark chocolate dessert. The room is great and the noise was not bothersome as others have stated...but poor execution in the kitchen with a rather uninspiring menu won't have me rushing back anytime soon.

Let me start by saying I really love the other Chef Paul Virant's restaurants in Chicago. Vie in Western Springs and the more casual Perennial in the city consistently deliver on an outstanding experience. So why was I a little underwhelmed by my visit to Vistro- the new Hinsdale, casual Virant restaurant? Hmm . . .Other than an amazing bartender named Kit, the other staff just seemed to lack inspiration. I wasn't greeted by the hostess when I walked in which seemed to be a huge miss to a new place in town. The hostess was also unable to determine when I told her I didn't want to sit in the more casual bar area up front because it was cold (this place needs a vestibule which I hear is in the works) she asked me to sit at the bar while she figured it out. Really? The place had all of 4 tables filled on the Monday night I was there. I get that she was probably trying to even out the servers but still, just sit me and figure it out later. Our server was also off her game. We knew there was a pork shank special (Kit at the bar had already waxed poetically about how terrific it was) and yet this server couldn't tell us anything about it. And then my unpardonable sin occurred . .. the server had no favorites on the menu . . .she just basically said it was "all good". People! If you are a server, you need to have a couple of favorites on the menu, or maybe tell me what you sell the most of if you've never eaten there! It was quite clear that this server didn't know the menu as she told me the chicken was "all dark meat a breast and a thigh" (clearly not all dark meat if there is a breast involved) So we ordered a couple of appetizers and our entrees. The food fared better than the service. We opted for some standard favorites of the fried cheese curds with sauce (how can you go wrong with friend cheese) and the deviled eggs and chips (kind of odd but good nonetheless) For our entrees, my friend went with the steak and I had the fried chicken which was just okay. Not sure if the grease needed to be changed or if the chicken had been held too long but it had a very dark breading on it and was dry. And the gravy I had them serve with it did nothing to allay that issue. For dessert, we went with the bread pudding which again was tasty but not noteworthy. We escaped back to Kit's bar and enjoyed another perfectly poured drink before ambling on home. Oh and check out the really beautiful martini glasses- lovely! You can bet I'll be back to enjoy a beverage or two at the bar. But as for the restaurant? Eh. Good thing Kit can serve food at her bar, cuz if you go- that's the place to be!

My bf and I went on a double date here with some friends. It was crowded and lively on a Friday night, and nice to see that there is plenty of life in the suburbs. The food was very tasty, but somewhat limited in my opinion. Perennial Virant in the city is where I have had some very memorable meals (my first time....trying burrata.) Vistro has pretty standard upscale American fare but no interesting pairings or anything that I wouldn't put together in my kitchen. We ordered appetizers of: Beet Salad Mac & Cheese Sliders Turkey Legs--the best of all of them, in my opinion Then three people ordered the skirt steak (which was very tasty) and I had the trout, which was a little bland but had a nice cabbage pancake that helped. We had the Apple tartin (VERY GOOD) and chocolate cake for desert---pass...very forgettable. Finally, I'll say I think it is over priced for what it is. 2 sliders are $13? I can go to any bar and get the same thing for under $10.

A very solid add to the western burbs dining scene! Beautiful decor. Great service. Thoughtful additions of locally sourced menu items (I.e., west loop salumi, green river soda). My burger was outstanding and the few other items we ordered were also well above average. To the question of being kid friendly - I found it to be extremely welcoming to my three-year-old toddler who (let's face it) I don't even want him eating at my own house some days. But none the less they were very welcoming and he very much enjoyed his ravioli ... and I'm sure I could've found other menu items that he would've liked. Again great add to our little town and hope it is on the scene for years to come!

A decent twist on a bistro with some things you would expect. Each item we ordered had a nice, subtle twist on the usual, even down to the catsup. Brussel sprouts with squash was a unique twist on this recent addition to many menus. Harvest salad was quite good. Service was very friendly. Decor may lend itself more to a ladies night out, but not overly so - there was a tv at the bar. I would dim the lights at the bar some btw. It may not be Vie, but it is not suppose to be. Enjoy.

WOW what an amazing place we absolutely LOVED Vistro. Paul Virant has done it again. This is a stylish place with a fun relaxed atmosphere. We had a reservation which we were running late for and called it was no problem and when we arrived we were sat with in seconds. We ordered Fried Cheese Curds, Tempura Fried Pickles and the BLT Pizza, then all four of us ordered entrees of Meat Loaf, Pork Tenderloin, Marquez Sausage and Every thing I mean everything we ordered was spectacular!! It was my husbands birthday so I called a couple days before to see if we could have a special dessert for him. They have a fun hand made soft serve Ice Cream with toppers on the menu so I asked if we could have a mini sundae bar for our table and Vistro was SO accommodating ~ They said they had never done this before but they were happy to do it, They brought us both vanilla and raspberry sorbet and a carrier with 5 different toppers in mini mason jars. Vistro is hospitality at its BEST! This is what makes a great experience simply amazing! Thank you Vistro for an amazing dinning experience.

What's with the enormous TV that takes over the entire front of the restaurant and ruins the classy atmosphere? I looked around and no one was watching it (there was a football game on) at 6:30 on a Friday night. It was a distraction. I thought the portions were too small for the price. For $30, the steak should be bigger, better seasoned, and come with more than pile of regular french fries (even if steak frites is "a thing"). I overheard people talking in the bathroom and they, too, thought their experience was so-so--they said their pizza wasn't crispy on the edges at all. But it's just the restaurant's start--I hope they sink into a good stride. For starters, they should work out whatever kink at the bar had us waiting 15 minutes or a beer.

I'll acknowledge that it might be unfair to apply a more stringent standard to Paul Virant's talent than to the focus group that brought forth TGIFriday's, but look: he's basically all I've heard about come dinnertime since moving to the culinary wasteland that is the western Chicago suburbs. His Brussels sprouts are supposed to be the closest thing to a spiritual experience that a person can get with a cruciferous vegetable. He once restarted a man's heart with beef loin. Odds are good that I'll swaddle my child in pancakes from Perennial Virant. Given his reputation, I think it's okay to expect a lot. So here's my take on Vistro. Ambiance: with the exception of the incongruous televisions on both walls, the atmosphere nailed the urban bistro look I assume they're going for. I don't mean to imply that floor tiles are at all important, but if they were, I'd give Vistro an A. **But gawd, the jumbotrons are an eyesore.** Service: beers took forever, but the food was speedy, and our server seemed new at the job anyway. They'll wring everything out in a few weeks, and the drinks might even show up before the food! Food: it didn't meet my high hopes. The menu was pretty incoherent, for starters - quesadillas & scallops don't usually appear on the same menu. We had the Toasted Ravioli to start: while the meat filling could have used more spice or juice, the crust hit a really great balance of crispy and doughy. The Harvest Salad was decent, but isn't going to compel us to go back (and what proprietor wants their restaurant to stand out because of a salad, anyway?). The skirt steak was perfectly cooked but only modestly flavorful, though the accompanying broccoli/cheese curds concoction was unusual and quite delicious. So in all, nothing really blew our minds. (The guy at the table next to me said the burger was really great, but I can't confirm that because he refused to share with me.) Here's the part that rubbed me wrong: for $27, I'd expect my skirt steak entrée to be either great (it was adequate) or large (it arrived looking like about 10oz, but about half of that turned out to be mushrooms). And I know we're talking about a restaurant situated in the capital of Illinois' One Percenter demographic, so I shouldn't be surprised by a high unit cost of food - but even Jamie Dimon would want more than two sprigs of broccoli for a Jefferson. I'll try it again, because there's only like 5 other decent options within 10 miles of Clarendon Hills. I guess I'll have the burger?

My husband & I came here a few days ago with our friends who live locally and their 2 year old. And we had a fabulous experience!! It probably wasn't the best choice for the little guy but he liked his food (ham & cheese quesadilla) & the staff was wonderful with him. The decor is very modern & nice. It's a really cool space. And it was packed for a week night! As for our delicious food- there's a reason why Paul Virant is a James Beard award nominee. I was really impressed. We ordered the West Loop Salumi selection, aged cheddar & whole wheat crackers & the bread selection for the table. All were fabulous & we devoured it. For my entree, I ordered the fried chicken with potatoes & collared greens. It was THE BEST chicken I've ever had! The rest of the table got the pasta, trout & pork. And all our plates were empty. We all agreed that Vistro was a great experience!

We has dinner on a monday night, food was delicious and the desertor even Better, good crowd for a monday night, service was good, Sonia our waitress was very kínd and the staff was at all times checking that everything was ok. I will go back and highly recomend the pork milanesa.

Food was good, though the bartender forgot to put in the order for the entree she recommended. I sat at the bar while two other showed up next to me, had their drinks and food, and left. Finally I was asked if I would like to order something else. No, I would like the food I ordered to begin with! An apology would have made ALL the difference. I never tip less than 20%, but did do 15% tonight. Will likely try it again, like the location and menu, but the service at the bar was overly "casual".

Alright. I might be a little harsh with 2 stars but given the number of recommendations I read, and the name of the chef associated with it, I expected better. That being said, there are many elements that could make this restaurant a 4star level. PROS 1) Ambiance: Very nice, relaxed atmosphere. 2) Staff: Very Very Friendly. Cannot stress this enough. 3) Bar: Did not try it, but the bartender (who may also be the manager) seemed to know what he was doing. He noticed my long wait for my reserved table and made sure that we had water/menus to keep us busy. Nice selection. Another thing, I watched him prepare some interesting cocktails, which he also tasted (using a straw dipped in the glass and grabbing a sample - nice technique) something that many bartenders should be doing. 4) Food: Nice selection. Seems to be well-thought of. Tried the Kale but would have preferred is it was clearer that they were fired. The spinach soup was really good, as well as the beet salad. Burger was slightly undercooked but tasty nonetheless. 5) well priced. CONS 6) The restaurant could use a bit more table and staff management and coordination. Waited for a reserved table more than 20 min standing (the bartender made it up with a complementary glass of wine). Waited 10 minutes before ordering once seated. Service seemed to improve afterwards. Eventhough I give Vistro a 2-star rating, I certainly recommend it for a trial as it has the potential to be a great dining experience.

As the restaurant's logo states, it's all good. The location is cute and quaint. The tile of the floor is reminiscent of the standard black and white octagonal tile floor that my grandmother had in her bathroom and that I have seen in in multiple old school ice cream parlor.....but with a modern twist. And, that's kind of how I would explain the restaurant as a whole...familiar but with a twist. I had a tasty Manhattan-esque cocktail with red wine added. Warming and strangely good. The Caesar salad I shared as an appetizer had the whole anchovies (yum!) and was a proper Caesar, but the twist was the salad was grilled, which added a nice smoky flavor and wilted the romaine slightly-a new experience, and a welcome one that was brought over from Vie. The cheeseburger was top notch, the bacon perfectly crispy and melted in your mouth, the onions deliciously carmelized. The pork sammie was a perfect combination of moist and nice crusty breading outside. I would return for it in a heartbeat. Chef Virant walked the room greeting guests, and unfortunately stopped at a table that seemed to be the type that would complain that the ice wasn't cold enough, so he tried to appease them. I wish he had been able to swing by my table after he was finished with them, as my lunch date and I were very pleased. Some of the reviews have complained about the under trained staff. They are young, but my server was eager to make sure I had a good experience. Sadly, he mentioned that my table was the first to actually smile at him that day......another word of wisdom, if you are a grump when you go to a restaurant, you will likely not enjoy your experience. Smile. Life is more fun that way. This isn't Vie, and I wish some of the reviews would not compare it. They are very different animals that may resemble one another, but should be enjoyed in different ways. This place is casual and tasty. So, even if it kills you, put a smile on your face, come on in, and enjoy the experience.

I was at this restaurant twice with 2 different groups. OK decor but the space is sooooo noisy that we could not converse with most of our small group. Acoustics are terrible! Space is also so tight that our server had to circle around the entire room to get to the other side of our table. We shared tastes of everyone's orders and nothing was really delicious, tasty, or worth ordering again. The appetizer foods are not the largest portions. We were warned by our server not to try to order an appetizer as an entree as it was only a small bite...She was correct! A plate of lame, hospital room style bread slices for $4 is a joke. The entrees are pretty pitiful as well. The $26 fried chicken dinner consisted of a 3" round breast and a petite chicken leg and it just wasn't good. The pork dish had 2 tiny cutlets and a bowl of applesauce. Pasta dishes were small and lackluster. The desserts were not creative and didn't even seem to be freshly made. They were like defrosted Costco desserts. $12 cocktails are a bit much for the burbs. Run, don't walk, to another establishment!

Our group of girls went there for our monthly dinner club. When I first walked I first thought I was entering a corner bakery style of restaurant. The wood tables without table coverings and the bright white lighting. The food was good. Difficult to hear very very loud atmosphere not conducive for conversations with 6 people.

Great first experience here and Vistro will definitely be a regular on our restaurant rotation. The burger is TERRIFIC as is the kale starter. The toasted ravioli app was OK. Others at the table ordered a pizza to share before the entrees and they gave it a thumbs up. They've done a great job with the decor - it's a really nice space - but the lack of noise control is a serious issue. The bar was pretty crowded and there were several large parties seated throughout, but it wasn't so packed that it should have been as noisy as it was. It was really hard to have a conversation and to hear the server. We had to yell at one another and lean in to keep our conversation going. Still, the food was great and I love having someplace in Hinsdale to pop in and have a cocktail with friends. (I've missed Zak's bar for that reason!)

Starting to love this place more for the small plates and drinks. The variety is so incredible. Had fried green beans with dill mayonnaise sauce, a mixed green salad with lemon vinaigrette, fresh tuna, Mac & cheese, you get the idea....

Vie is a much better option. We didn't care for the hair that was served with the fish.

We are very excited that Paul Virant opened Vistro in Hinsdale! Vistro provides a great opportunity to have Paul's typical inventive, upscale food in a family friendly location and at a great price point. We made our first visit to Vistro this week and were definitely not disappointed in the food and drink! The fried pickles were great; as were our entrees (pork, cheeseburger and sockeye salmon). The "It's All Good" cocktail is excellent, too. For just having opened, the service was very organized and the staff was great. The crowd was lively, espcially in the bar area. Unfortunately, there is a major noise problem currently that we hope they will address. We could barely hear each other and practically had to shout across the table. Also, the heating/cooling system is a problem if you are seated under one of the ceiling vents. We had constant cold air blowing down on the table (to the point our menus were blowing away). It was pretty uncomfortable. I know they are working on it, so it will not detract us from returning. Overall, the food was excellent and I'm sure we'll become regulars!

Was very excited to try this, as we are big fans of Paul Virant. First impression; the decor is lovely. The menu is interesting, but as a whole, what you see is not what you get. The one highlight: the mixed greens salad with fennel was dressed perfectly. The beet salad was salty, with some kind of unappetizing cracker crumbled thoughtlessly on top. It added nothing to the dish. The burger was cold, served alongside luke warm, unsalted french fries. The mushrooms in the pasta tasted like they weren't reconstituted long enough, and were therefore very chewy. But the biggest problem was the pizza we ordered for my son. He was starving, so he somehow ate three pieces of it, before he said he didn't like it. I looked at it, and tasted it. The dough was RAW. I mentioned this to the server, who meekly told me that the first pizza was overdone, so they must have rushed the second one and not cooked it enough. I told her I understood, and that they must be still working out the bugs, as the restaurant is relatively new. I assumed they would make a gesture of good faith, and remove it from the bill, especially since it came to the table later than everyone else's food, and it still wasn't right. (she was very apologetic.) Here is where it goes from bad to worse; the "manager" Lucas came over. He didn't want to apologize. He wanted to press us to find out what "exactly" was wrong with the pizza. He was confrontational and condescending in front of a table that was seated just next to us. When I explained to him that the dough was raw, he mumbled something about the pizza oven having hot spots and cold spots...and said it was hard to get it just right. I wonder how the owner would feel about that description of what I'm certain was a very expensive wood burning pizza oven. My father, who was dining with us, was aghast that someone who should be apologizing for a mistake on the part of the restaurant, would be treating a customer that way. The best part; the bill comes, and yes, you guessed it; the pizza was still on there. We paid, left the sever a 25% tip anyway, and left. Don't see a return trip happening any time soon. My advice? Find a new manager with some people skills, and get the chef some time with Paul Virant, stat.

Just ate tonight at Vistro with husband and adult daughter. Decor was beautiful and staff was very friendly. We were disappointed with menu. Had the fried meat ravioli; it was OK. I liked the dipping salsa included. Daughter and husband had seasonal pizzas. They were OK, too; nothing amazing, Pinot grigio was served in a short water glass. Really like to drink my wine out of a traditional wine glass. Wanted to order the fried chicken but could not justify the $23 charge. Hinsdale is still the suburbs, not Paris or Manhattan.

Don't bother. It's a waste of time and money. I was so looking forward to this place being at least good but it was far from it. The burger was not even tasty and the rest of our meals were even worse. Service sucked. Waited for 15 minutes after being seated before someone came over to greet us. It is super noisy in there and feels like being in a loud bar. There are far better places around the area to go and eat well.

I was really looking forward to Vistro, having been to Vie a couple of times but it was disappointing. I went there with two friends on a Friday night. First, the noise level. The place was so loud that I lost my voice by the end of the night (from having to talk so loud). Next, my cocktail, although tasty, was weak as hell. For $13 I expect a little liquor. For appetizers, we had Fried Kale, which was oily but delicious, the bread plate, which was tasty, but they charge you for it (what the?). At least give refills if you're gonna cheap out and charge for bread! We also had the beet salad, which I thought was tasteless but one of the other girls liked. I'm not a huge beet person though. For entrees, two of the girls had the Skirt Steak.....one liked it and one didn't (she though it was too fatty/grisly). I tasted it and didn't like it either. Very fatty. I had the Pork MIlanese, which was good, not great. We had a couple of desserts, which were decent. Before I tell you the worst part, I'll say that we had and AWESOME waitress. I can't remember her name but she was in her early 30s with a 2 or 3 small kids. Very good service from her. That being said, now for the worst part. As we were finishing our dessert/coffee, some guy (manager?) comes over and asks us to leave! They needed the table for a reservation. I have been to A LOT of restaurants and this has NEVER happened to me before. He said we 'could go sit at the bar', but didn't even offer to buy us one of their overpriced, under-liquored drinks to do so. Now it's not like we were sitting there hogging the table for 3+ hours. We hadn't even been there 2 hours and had spent well over $300 for 3 people. C'mon people! TBH, I probably wouldn't have gone back anyway based on the food and noise level and food, but that rudeness definitely sealed the deal.

Some girlfriends and I went for dinner last night and we didn't have a good experience overall. I'll start with the positive, the kale was absolutely delicious as was the fried chicken. We got the chicken pizza and quesadillas which were decent. Our server however made quite a few blunders, she got us the wrong drinks at the start and we she did bring the right one, they were pretty watered down. We had repeatedly told her that we do not eat any kind of pork products due to religious reasons. When we ordered the toasted ravioli, she failed to mention that it was stuffed with pork and it wasn't even listed on the menu. Most of the time one assumes that toasted ravioli is filled with cheese and if it does contain meat, it needs to be mentioned on the menu. After a couple of bites we realized that it wasn't cheese and upon asking, we were told it had pork.

Feeling a bit generous.. They are very new and deserve some time to iron out the issues I had. We found the menu to be quite odd. Completely understand that it I s not trying to be a french bistro but not sure there is anything cohesive about the menu at all. My hubby and i both ended up with the Burger which was a solid choice. The fries were average but the burger was juicy, the bacon was thick and perfectly cooked all on a great bun. The service is where the whole thing fell short. I understand it takes a long time to train staff but seriously our server was a complete fail. We asked her two questions about the menu. 1. What type of pasta is used in the pasta dish. (Menu just states that it is homemade pasta). Her answer .. "The skinniest kind. Hehe. I don't know the name." Shoulder shrug..... Silence. My husband settles on the burger 2. I ask What sauce is served on the surf and turf sliders? Her answer " the walleye is like a cake on a bun. Maybe like a mayo? Maybe?" I also settled on the Burger. Couldn't handle a server with absolutely no knowledge of the menu or food in general. Don't think I will be back as a decent burger priced at $14.00 can be found lots of places with way more intelligent and knowledgable staff.

We love Paul's Vie in Western Springs. Vistro disappointed us. Not sure what the focus is to be, but the food was not the level one would expect from the master chef, Paul. Many items from appetizer to dinner were over cooked and quite frankly, burnt. Toasted ravioli, pizza, lasagna too crisp. Pizza was greasy and lacked flavor. Steak was also disappointing as pricey for what you got. We did enjoy the sticky pudding and cookies. Overall, food low on flavor, noisy atmosphere and pricey food. We were really looking forward to a new restaurant in our town, but sadly, we will need to visit Paul at Vie.

A disorganized mess. If you go there be ready to wait, and wait, and wait. The seaters and servers seem to be lost.

Hinsdale can probably use a casual restaurant like this, but be warned: Despite the name ("Vistro") and the word "bistro-style" in the description, it is NOT a French bistro. No French onion soup, for starters. And it is way, way too loud for conversation. The food may be terrific, but we didn't stay to try it. Bottom line: It's a young person's place, and that's fine.

We had a wonderful time at Vistro. Going early on a weekday evening was a plus since we avoided the crowds. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. We had the cheese curds, with the spicy corn relish. The cheese curds were very good, although I would have liked them more bite size. The spicy corn relish was perfect. The dry aged grilled burger and fries was wonderful - very flavorful and not a bit greasy. The skirt steak was exceptional tasting, although it was a little chewy. For dessert we had the gingerbread cake, which they split in two for us and served very nicely on individual plates. It was outstanding - best I have every had and the shared portion was just perfect. Lastly, we had a $9.00 glass of Cannonball Merlot which was served in a high ball glass. I thought that was odd, and asked our server about it. He told us that only the premium bottled wine is served in a wine glass - what? That is very strange. They also do not have steak knives - again very odd - I was able to cut my steak fine with the knife I was given - server said it was a cross between a butter and steak knife - what? Again a little strange. Also, the dessert cake was served with a spoon - odd - what can I say. They did do a very nice job with clearing our plates and continuously supplying new silverware, The decor was very comfortable, and it was nice how the tables were spaced. At least 2 or 3 more 4 top tables could be added, but it was great having the extra room. Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience and will certainly be back.
