I love this place. Everyone is so friendly and I love their tea. They have the best orange chicken and great egg rolls. They have plenty to choose from and are reasonably priced. The place has a nice feel to it and the service is quick. I went here for a birthday dinner one year and the owner came over and made me a little origami heart out of a dollar and did a magic trick. It was really nice. I recommend to anyone looking for good Chinese food that isn't super expensive.

This is our go to restaurant for Chinese. Is it the best? No, but you won't find much better locally and trust me, we looked. Reminds me of the restaurant my family dined at weekly when I was young. This is one of the few places in Hinsdale where they don't take advantage of the location. Prices reasonable and service is exceptional. We have hosted groups here and the quality and service doesn't waiver. Favorite dishes: Vegetarian egg rolls, Szechwan green beans, Orange Beef, Chicken Chow Fun, and Chicken Moo Shu. If you want your food spicy, be sure to tell the waiter. Owner lives in Hinsdale and is in the restaurant regularly.

I tried this place based on the rave reviews I read all over the internet. We ordered three entrees and three appetizers. Everything tasted good, but suddenly I felt stomach cramps and ran to the bathroom. I vomited. I wasn't sure if it was just a fluke, a bug, or what. The other two people I was eating with were fine. Fast forward 3 weeks and the exact same thing happened. I ordered a different entree and different appetizer. My stomach started hurting and I vomited. I give up! I'm not sure what the deal is with this place, but they are two for two in making me sick. This has never happened to me before when eating any other Chinese food. In fact, I love Chinese food and wanted to love this place. But, alas, after getting sick again tonight I quit this place.

Awww, Jade Dragon went and got all fancy on me! This place has been here since before most of you little yelpers were on this planet! For years this place had a vacuum cleaner stored by the cash register and some dusty plants in the window. Those are gone now and it makes me a bit sad. In junior high, us "kids that thought we were cool" would walk the few blocks to JD and eat rice with chopsticks and drink tea. Oh ya, we were cooler than cool! They still have all my Americanized Chinese favs from my childhood but now they have fancy schmancy stuff like lettuce wraps, ginger and scallion beef, salt and pepper shrimp and my favorite, the scallops and shrimp with veggies perfectly nested in a pretty basket made of woven noodles! They have the obligatory Chinese restaurant lunch specials where you can get your fattyy on and enjoy soup, eggroll, fried rice and choice of an entree for the incredible price of $5.00-$7.00. Oh yeah! Prices are pretty amazing for Hinsdale. It is a true dining room and service is fast and efficient. If you are lucky you'll spot a Hinsdale mom in Lily Pulitzer pants and a twinset on top to match!

We go here all the time. It's a local favorite and the staff is super friendly. Beef and green beans (not on the menu) is our favorite dish. They can make it by request. Salt and pepper shrimp is also good.

This is hands down my favorite place to come for good American-style Chinese food (and I am Chinese). My favorites are the potstickers, green beans, chow fun, lettuce wraps, walnut shrimp, and sesame chicken. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. We usually order the same things every time (see above) but have tried a wide range of items and it's all been good. Carry out service is great, as is dining in. Any time I crave good ol' Chinese takeout, you will find me here.

If you want rude service... come here. Husband and I were in on a quiet Friday afternoon. Just wanted soup and an app. We were greeted by a young student - very polite and friendly. However, the "waiter" (or mgr or owner) took our order. 1) He did not even say hello after we both said hello. 2) When ordering our "light" meal, just glared at us (like what... no main course???). 3) When asked a question if there was a large soup (was not on the menu). only response was "if you want" - very terse. 4) Just dropped off check - again no words... no smile. We could go on and on... will never go back and cannot recommend this place at all. I am not asking for anything except for basic, common, human courtesy... a smile, a hello, a thank you... SOMETHING!

One of the best things about this restaurant is the owner, Lop (or Lap, not sure). He's a great guy, very accommodating, and will sometimes even do magic tricks :) I also really like the atmosphere of the restaurant because it is a pleasant, traditional dining room that doesn't try to be hip or something it's not. My favorite things to order, so far, have been the lo mein and ragun. They have been accommodating in helping me adjust my order to make it vegetarian. Also, they cater - my friend gets catering from them every year for his party, and his guests love it. Great place to have in Hinsdale.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant of all time. I started coming here in high school 15 years ago and keep coming back. I love their egg rolls, crab rangoon, and orange beef. All delicious! The governor's chicken is also good!

The lettuce wraps are delicious!!!!!people are friendly and quick to help. Found it by accident but glad we stopped in.

The food here is fantastic. All the vegetables are fresh and crisp. The sauces are home-made. Don't be fooled by the standard Chinese-restaurant menu, it's beyond "standard". I can't think of one menu item that I haven't enjoyed. These are my favorites: * Lettuce wraps with plum sauce * Shrimp with creamy sauce and candied walnuts * Orange Beef * Salt n Pepper Pork * Pot Stickers * Green Beans with almonds The owner is really nice and will walk around and talk to people sometimes.

Been a fan of Jade Dragon for 25 years in Hinsdale. It is my go to place for the best Chinese food in the suburbs. The owner brought Chinatown to Hinsdale. Excellent service and wonderful dishes. Reasonably priced to bring the whole family. I love the Szechuan green beans with shrimp...scrumptious!

If you want value and tasty Chinese food, you have come to the right place. I ordered the shrimp and lobster sauce lunch special, it came with a soup so I chose Hot and Sour and an eggroll. I ordered an extra egg drop soup for my daughter and we shared my rice. When he brought out my dish I thought he put down the dinner size portion for me, which I would have been fine paying for, but then he also gave me a soup and eggroll, so he had to know i meant lunch right? Bill comes and it's $7.40 for our lunch! WHHHAAA I am not in a dumpy town (no offense), I'm in Hinsdale, home of the pretentious (no offense), but this place is so unpretentious (like other reviewers have stated). The shrimp and lobster was tasty, kind of on the sweet side but tasty nonetheless. I really only order shrimp and lobster for the delicious gooey egg sauce to eat with rice. The shrimp were the little guys, not the huge ones that you would get at like Yu's Mandarin or something. Sauce is black like I like it, white shrimp and lobster sauce to me is kind of tasteless. The hot and sour was great. I would go back and just order a big bowl of this stuff. The egg roll was good too. I don't normally eat the egg roll because you can literally see the fatty oil glistening off of it. But these were great, crunchy and not greasy. My daughter enjoyed her egg drop so it was a win for the both of us, and for the price, we will be back.

I have been going here throughout my whole life. Done in, carry out, you name it. The food is great and the price isn't as expensive as Panda Express or other Chinese places. Friendly staff with a "hole in the wall" food quality that'll make you wanna come back again and again!

First time there in July. Lunch specials are really generous and a good value. The food is good. At the recommendation of my friend I tried the green bean dish - good recommendation for first time there. (Funny I guess) The waiter looked at me as if I had two heads when I asked for half egg drop soup/half hot-n-sour soup.

Best Chinese food I've ever had. Period. I'm biases as I grew up eating take out from here, and my friends and I used to ride our bikes there for the lunch special before we had our drivers licenses. Owner does magic tricks and other cool shit. The Empress Chicken is the standard of what I think Chinese food should be.

The Jade Dragon is a reasonably decent Americanized Chinese restaurant. It also serves some more traditional Chinese dishes, such as noodles, tofu, and others. What comes out of the kitchen is ok, that is to say, not bad. So far as dine-in goes, the decor is very simple. The restaurant is family owned and operated, so service is pretty good. It enjoys a good, well-earned reputation in Hinsdale, as can be seen by the crowd eating there many nights. I would most recommend Jade Dragon for carry-out. You get the decent food for a reasonable price, and you can eat it wherever you like. In summary, The Jade Dragon is a decent restaurant. It is best for carry-out but it does have a simple dine-in space. Service is very good and the food is not bad. I can recommend it, particularly for carry-out.

It is ok. I get it for my kids but not favorite, the kids like it

  • Francois B.

Typical Americanized greasy-ish badly cooked Chinese food. Not sure why so many people seem to claim it's fresh -the chicken seems to be pre-prepared in batter and some very artificial looking and tasting sauces are all that made the difference between an orange chicken and a sweet & sour one. Egg roll and egg drop soup nothing to write home about. Food came very quickly, which is useful but of course re-emphasizes that the stuff is pre-made. The steamed rice was pretty dry. Pros: service was really nice, it's not a chain, it's cheap, it's open for lunch, envionment is nice, open & clean.

Jade Dragon is my family's go-to place for Chinese Food. We have eaten in the restaurant once or twice, but have gotten take-out here for years. We love the food here and have yet to find a meal we don't like!

Actual Rating: 2.5 Stars. Pretty much what comes to mind when you think of your standard Chinese Restaurant. Nothing fantastic here, nothing terrible here. Prices are fair. Service is good, but distracting when the servers all sit around and talk in the back. Interior decorations are completely lacking, in fact the whole restaurant needs a complete remodel. Plain white walls with very few pictures or other Chinese decorations. I'm sure if they invested in the interior of their restaurant, they would attract more customers who were willing to pay slightly higher prices for a better dining ambiance. Come on, you're in the middle of downtown Hinsdale!!!! People would pay for a nice dining experience!!!! Carry-out portions are on the smaller side.

Am back visiting and stopped by for lunch. Forgot how much I love their food. The Sesame and Orange chicken are the best I've ever had and the fried rice is great too. Everything is freshly cooked which is a nice change from all the places with large batches made for the buffet.

Went here months ago with my friend and her 3 kids. I grew up in Hinsdale and although we did not go here much, I can tell you the ambience has changed. it used to be quite dark if I remember right but it has brightened with a coat of lighter color paint. However, it was yummy (we had several dishes to share--i.e. the sesame chicken) and the waiter was very attentive and nice and even funny. My friend seemed to know them but nevertheless.... I will be back soon. Yum.

Their eggrolls are the best I've ever had. Unfortunately, I was unimpressed with everything else. The Kung Pao and Chicken w/ Vegetables were ok but I'd never go out of my way to eat here again.

  • Kris Z.

Even though I'd rate this as a 3 star, my husband loves this place (as many others do as well) so I'll bump it up to a 4 star for him. The Hot & Sour soup is not that great but many of the dishes are very good - Govenor's Chicken & Orange Chicken are really hot & spicy and the Kung OPao is great too. Also the appetizer's are good too. You wouldn't believe how busy this place is - has to be one of the busiest in Hinsdale.

I should have known better than to expect that Hinsdale might actually have a Chinese food place that served authentic Chinese food. This place serves Americanized over-soy sauced, forgettable food. If you're looking for Chinese food, take my advice...skip this place and drive over to the international plaza on Pasquinelli Dr or the Chinese fast food joint on 63rd and Kingery --it's cheaper and tastier.

in an area that is so white stuffy money yuck, this chinese place fills the quota for immigrants in hindale. serioulsy, not my style of chinese, which is very americanized, but they make their food fast and tasty. their most popular dish, sesame chicken, is very tasty. the chicken deep friend ever so perfectly with their sesame sauce. the garlic green beans in a black bean sauce is a good way to get your kids to have some tasty veggies. the fried rice is adequate, maybe find it more tasty, but not my style again. the moo shu is really good and try their egg rolls....yum. the owner lop, is funny and has a great repoir with the community and always does his famous rubber band tricks with my kids. and there is wey a cool cat who always comes around to the kids and gives the "starter" chopsticks to budding asians. enjoy! cheers!

I live in Chicago but my in-laws live near Hinsdale. We've been to this place a few times and each time I wish that there was a place like this in Chicago. Casual, cheap, old-school Chinese, that is DELICIOUS! Weirdly, it's a rarity nowadays. (Seems like Thai is the new Chinese or something.) Anyways, highly recommended for a casual meal or take-out. Try the sesame chicken and Won-ton soup!

  • Jen M.

I love this place! My family has been ordering here for years, and the recipe and quality hasn't changed. Yes, the food is your standard Americanized Chinese fare, but its AWESOME! A little greasy, but just enough to make it tasty and not make you run for the bathroom. All time favorites are: egg rolls (OMG so good), crab rangoon, egg drop soup, fried rice, sesame chicken, orange beef, beef with black bean sauce, and chicken chow fun. They are even better heated up the next day! Final note: don't read Josh M's review. He's my husband, from Ohio, and he's a hater :)

I live in Hinsdale and I love Jade Dragon Restaurant!! This restaurant has great, patient, and reasonable waiting service. The food is very delicious. I go very often with my friends and I get different food every time, and it is some thing new and flavorful when I do. I would recommend Jade Dragon Restaurant to anybody that ever had doubts about it.

*Sigh* The search for good Chinese goes on in the 'burbs. Jade Dragon is what you would expect from an average Chinese restaurant: Greasy food, overly sweet sauces, fried rice that makes you feel like crap later on. Except you have to put up with paying a premium for these experiences, thus the two stars. I'm picky about my Chinese food, so if you're into the usual American Chinese fare you might like this place. I just can't stand paying a premium for the kind of stuff you get at a Chinese buffet. I will continue to root out awesome Chinese food at a good deal in the 'burbs...it has to exist somewhere.

Average food, average service. Lunch specials serve up a nice volume of food at a low price. Jade is in a row of stores in downtown Hinsdale, very close to the train station. Street parking is available.

  • Jenn C.

OK, I'm only giving this place 3 stars because you can't really find many Chinese restaurants in Hinsdale. The food is decent, but I've had much better. The prices are over priced, but again, its decent if you want Chinese without having to drive really far.

    (3)
  • Carol K.

4 stars you say? Why is that a big deal? Well it is because I am not even a fan of Chinese food and this place could make me change my mind. The Jade Dragon in Hinsdale is one of those unpretentious places (if there is such a place in Hinsdale- now say that with the proper accent - it's Hiiinnnnsdale) that people in the neighborhood flock to. I've come here for lunch as well as ordered take out for dinner and I find the food to be good and the service pleasant every time I go. The food is fresh and prepared just the way I ask for it. If I am ordering take out- they are so quick that the second I put the phone down, I am navigating the 6 blocks to get there as it is always done when I walk in the door. The biggest downside? Well as a family run business, they close down for a couple of weeks each year to take a vacation. Of course, those two weeks are exactly the time I get a major craving for some shrimp subgum or Kung Pao Beef. Hmm . . .You think if I asked nicely they would open up just for me?

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
