Fried chicken, greens and cabbage! Yummmmmmmyyyy! What a great lunch! the food was so delicious! IThe only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I don't like their cornbread. I prefer cornbread that's really sweet and theirs is not sweet at all. The greens today tasted like they could have used more vinegar but they were still good. The fried chicken was so good though cuz it has the right amount of crunch and spices. Will be back here in the near future!

I've eaten at this establishment about 3 times, and it's average.....not great. Honestly, the servings are too small for the price, and I've tasted better soul food in my momma's kitchen. I only recommend this place to people that are desperately craving soul food, and need a quick fix. You know, when you are craving for Thanks Giving dinner in the middle of July.... Hell, it happens to me all of the time. It kind of reminds me of a high school cafeteria. You have to grab a tray, wait in line, order your food, put it on the tray, push it to the register, and carry your filled tray to the table without dropping your food lol... I'm sorry, but that's too much work for me, especially when I'm hungry! I need a freakin waitress! The price of the food is about 14 dollars for dinner. Keep in mind that I have a tiny appetite so I eat small portions. ...if you have a big appetite, you will spend way more. The sides cost about 2 or 3 dollars a piece, and they serve them in very small bowls so you don't get a lot of food. Greens are very spicy and chewy, so there not that good. The dressing is too sweet, the Macaroni was burnt, and the chicken was over cooked and flavorless...... The sweet potatoes are good though. Another problem that I have is that I don't enjoy eating food that it scrapped from the bottom of the pot......those are the portions that should be thrown away instead of being served. I hate Macaroni with burnt black pieces from the bottom of the pot. I prefer food that is aesthetically pleasing. Lastly, the silverware is old and used looking, and that is also a turn off.

So,told hubby about this place and he was sad he did not get a chance to try Priscilla' s.No worries! That just meant another trip for me! No complaints there. He had the Smothered Chicken and he said it was very tasty. WARNING: this is not boneless chicken,so if that matters to you-don't get it! He got the Mac and Cheese,of course and mashed taters and gravy. I was going to get the platter of just sides, but, they had just pulled some catfish from the fryer and it looked too good...so,I got that again and the same sides I had before. It was just as good as last time.I have no idea what brand of hot sauce the keep on the tables, but it is damned fine stuff-not too hot,not too much vinegar-just right! I was tempted to sneak the bottle into my bag...but,I restrained myself. I'll be back-no problem!

This soul food establishment is on the southwest side suburban town...but could hold it's own in any major downtown atmosphere. It has a commercial feel when you walk in...but when you sit down you will definitely feel like your down south eating a real home cooked meal. They have everything here from smothered pork chops, BBQ ribs, and fried chicken to greens, yams, mac and cheese and great desserts. Now i have had better but this place is very good and it was also close to the Expressway despite it is on a busy stretch of road it is quite quaint. Please visit and remember to Eat, Drink, and be Merry my friends!!!!

This was truly one of the best meals I've ever had. We had baked chicken, fried chicken, and short ribs, with macncheese, yams, lima beans, greens and cornbread for sides. Unbelievable. Everything was as good as my wife's grandma's cooking, and she used to cook amazing soulfood. We didn't get dessert, because we were too full, and are now regretting that decision. .

This is another great restaurant that I have found by searching Yelp! The three of us, my wife son and I each ordered something different so we could sample each others plates. I got the smothered fried chicken (to die for), mashed potatoes and gravy, and collard greens with pork. My wife got the fried catfish which she proclaimed some of the best she has ever had. My son got the barbecued ribs which were very tasty. The macaroni and cheese was a big hit with everyone. My son got the hot peach cobbler which was excellent. We were greeted at the beginning of the cafeteria style line and once they found out we were "newbie's" we were given a complete description of every item on the menu. They also checked up on us several times at the table to offering to refill our drinks and to make sure all was ok. Overall the food and service was excellent.

First off let me just say that I LOVE SOUL FOOD! I was watching the news one morning and Priscillas was the restaurant being featured on that day. The segment left you with your mouth watering. So I googled it not too long after I tried it for the first time. Myself, my sister, my husband, and my 2 y/o at the time. Cafeteria style which I love and the staff was super friendly, very helpful and extra patient with us. There was such a variety to choose from that picking and choosing was not easy. I had the fried chicken, corn bread, Mac and cheese, greens, and candied yams I also had a taste of the smothered pork chops. All of the food was finger lickin good. There is a person who comes to your table with your drinks and any condiments you may need and he was very efficient in checking back for refills and what not. I previously read other reviews about service, staff, and the whole parking situation. Which I have never experienced a problem with. Yes the parking lot is a little tricky but you're going there to eat not to look or complain about the parking situation. Be grateful that they have a parking lot. I will continue to dine here for as long as I can :-)

Well...Priscilla's is pretty good, although to be honest, I prefer another place closer to the city that starts with an M.... ;-) But anyways, Priscilla's does have good soulfood. The smothered shortribs are mouth watering, and I love how they have no problem giving you a bunch of containers to take your food home. The service there is good, and they do ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS! yey. Their fried chicken is pretty good too.

I know if you live in the city it's kind of a hassle to drive out here, but it's worth it. I heard about Priscilla's through a friend at work, and it's AMAZING. Everything here is so good. Between the bf and myself, we've tried the ribs, chicken, catfish, veggie platter, peach cobbler, mac and cheese, yams, corn, rice, mashed potatoes etc. (can you tell that I like to try a lot of different foods when I go to a new place?) It's all really good. The people here are nice and they don't really seem to run out of food.

wish i could add more stars, but that's not an option on YELP found this place, as we all do...on Check Please. i cannot get enough of this. This is the best soul food in Illinois!!! if it pleases my mother in law, as she is a phenomenal soul food cook, it should pass everyone else's reviews okay, so favorite meal here is the crisy fried catfish, with 3 sides, cornbread muffin, drink and choice of dessert. yes folks...i don't eat it in one siting (much)! i save half of it for lunch the next day. sides i choose are usually the stewed okra that are stewed whole and not in pieces(usually only on sundays); the mac and cheese which is wonderfully cheeesy, and the cabbage or potato salad. I hate potato salad anywhere else, but here, again THE BEST. no too mayo-ish, has enough flavor, not overly powering with relilsh and/or mustard. Great combo of whatever they into it. sweet tea is a tad bit sweet, but hey, whatever. nice to wash all that stuff down with. dessert...ahhhh, there is not enough time to talk about dessert. Peach cobbler has some of the finest, well cinnomoned peaches...again, Momma C's approval!!! Pecan pie just as good with a flakey crust i will limit myself to 3 desserts. The german chocolate is a family favorite. I personally am not a fan of german chocolate, but everyone else says it's pretty phenomenal. Who am i to judge when everything else i've tried is just that great!!!! oh...and parking. They have their own lot (sigh)....This is why it's not so bad to drive somewhere to get some good eats

If you have taste for some soulfood from grandma's kitchen in the south but you live in the city of Hillside, then visit Priscilla's cafeteria, Sundays are super busy, so I recommend going on another day, but everything you like southern, & soul food they have, and trust me bring a pillow, and blanket with you because after your meal you'll catch a case of the sleepies ;-) the food is heavy, fried, & greasy just like I like it ;-) so dig in and enjoy. If southern soul food in a lunchroom like cafeteria, is not your thing, don't go, it's not for everyone.

LOVE this place. It was one of the highlights to my trip in Chicago and we luckily just found on a whim. We knew it would be a good place because of how crowded it was when we got there and how we were the only tourists in the whole restaurant. Nothing is better to me than good old American comfort food, which probably explains why I love this place so much. Everything they serve is so simple yet so full of flavor. You get to pick one main dish and three sides, with one of them being cornbread. The seasoning on the fried chicken was the best I've ever had and their sides were just as flavorful and delicious. My friends and I got different sides so we were able to try all of them. The mac n cheese is not the best but is still very good. You can't really go wrong with thick, gooey, yellow, extra cheesy mac and cheese. The stuffing (or "dressing" as they call it) was amazing! It was pack full of flavor and had a nice texture. The collard greens were as good as collard greens can get I suppose, and the candied yams were so dangerously delicious. They are pretty sweet so beware if you don't like your yams to be that sweet. I personally liked the cornbread, not too moist and not too dry. My boyfriend ordered the turkey with the most flavorful gravy and he claims that it's even better than the fried chicken. If you like your food simple, fattening, and full of flavor, this is a good place to be!

My family and I visited Priscilla's today about 1pm there was no line and no wait. Between the 3 of us we had chicken, fish and ribs, for sides we had mac and cheese, cabbage, greens, and sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes were WAY to sweet and the greens were a little bitter. Other than that we had a great meal and the ribs were fall off the bone tender. Our waiter was GREAT and bought 2 glasses of red kool aid to our table. I will surely be back and I think I will try different sides.

It was over priced for the portions you get and didn't compare to the Soul Food I had in North Carolina.

  • Cindy D.

Delish southern comfort food. I've been here twice and both times it's been excellent. Unfortunetly, I personally have only tried the smothered shortribs. They are extremely tender and slathered with fatty gravy (don't go if you have health problems). Also, the sides are delicious and buttery. Call before hand or check out thier website to get there menu. The entrees and sides change daily. Also, it's a new experience as well, food is served cafeteria style.

One of Chicago's best soul food restaurants. My favorites were the Macaroni & Cheese and Greens. Service is friendly and the restaurant is busy and cheerful. Dieters beware!

Soulfood was phenomenal. I love cafeterias because of the pure control over the meal. Chicken was magical, red velvet was heavenly, potatoes, green beans and other sides were good. I would recommend this place to anyone.

This place is awesome! Not only was the food great but the service was too! The ladies behind the counter gave us suggestions and it was well worth the price. It felt like you were eating in friend's home. Very cozy and friendly! Will be returning.

one word: AMAZING. i love the cafeteria style of serving cuz it's totally hassle-free. and the food is just delicious. if you're feeling down or just looking for a solid, satisfying meal, Priscilla's is the place to go. you'll leave feeling happy guaranteed.

This restaurant could easily turn into your "Sunday dinner" spot! (or any other day for that matter, except Monday and Tuesday because they are not open) The fried chicken is AMAZING! Not like it's foreign or anything but the best that you will get outside of your grandma's kitchen! Seasoned to the bone and just the right crispiness every time. To not be able to "see" any vegetables in the dressing, it has a very unique and flavorful taste that will keep you coming back for more. The cornbread muffins will assure you that the taste started with the cornbread! The other sides that are consistently delicious every time are the candied yams, greens and macoroni and cheese. This place, whether you are near or far, is a definite "go to" when you are in the mood for soul food. You will NOT be disappointed.

I've been here about seven or eight times. I love the short ribs w/ mashed potato's. I've had the bar b cue ribs, fried chicken, smothered pork chops, ox tails, fried catfish and all the sides. They were all great! Try the peach cobbler.

If your into SOUL FOOD you got to try this place the short ribs are great and meaty much better than MacArthur's restaurant even if you spend a $1.00 more. Fried catfish is out of this world, candies sweet potatoes are excellent just the right spice to them, if you love GREENS these are the one, a good helping a place worth trying for under $12 CLOSE on Monday and Tuesday's

Good down home cooking. I visited a couple of years ago and liked it alot, I love the beef short ribs and the too die for dressing. This place has gone down a little bit, that's why I cannot give 5 stars my last visit sucked cause everything I ordered was cold and for over $20 I want to be a little happy.

As a mixed race guy with little to no soul food experience, I looked forward to my first restaurant foray into the world of soul food. I have had Priscilla's on the radar for awhile, but haven't had the opportunity to visit before. Upon first gaze of the selections, I immediately gravitated toward the fried chicken. I have been looking for a solid alternative for KFC and Popeyes for awhile and heard good things about this place, it did not disappoint. I loved the fried chicken here and deem it among the best I've tried. As for the sides, I ordered the collard greens which I've only had once before. My mom likened them to bitter cabbage and I had to agree, I thought they were just alright. The candied yams were solid, but I am more of the minimalist school when it comes to sweet potato's. Here they come super sweet which was a bit much for me. My mom ordered the spare ribs which were very good and smothered with gravy which I felt maybe they could do without. The cherry cheesecake was pretty much the kind you make from the box, not that that is all bad, I love the cheese cake in a box. All in all, if you take away the fried chicken, this place is 3 stars at best in my opinion. The fried chicken alone drives this place up a star at least and in my heart the only real reason for a return visit so far.

The last time i had southern food this good was in Mobile, Alabama. I had the fried chicken, cabbage and string beans with a slice of pecan pie. everything was fantastic. Service is much better than average, the food is served cafeteria style and it has a large dining room. They offer both dine-in and carry out service. large parking lot in back.

I really like the food here. It is definitely coma-inducing but worth it if you have a light afternoon. Right across the street from a cemetary - convenient because if you ate here everyday no doubt you'd end up there quickly! Fried chicken is very good, tender, crispy, but I disagree with the people on the seasoning. It could definitely be seasoned more, but this is mitigated by the hot sauce they give you, which I dump on the chicken and mac and cheese. Mac and cheese is great, short ribs are delicious and fall off the bone. Greens are also fantastic. Corn muffin was a bit dry. Great place for coma-inducing meal. It isn't cheap though. Will be about $15 or so for a full meal - but you WILL be full!

Officially the best soul food restaurant in Illinois. Love this place, and i rarely give restaurants 5 stars. My go-to meal is typically the deep fried catfish that is seasoned to perfection (you dont even need to add hot sauce). Their short ribs are really good, very tender, with a gravy sauce that smothers it. Their wings are absolutely amazing and fried well. Now we can move on to their side dishes. They offer so many items: greens, rice & gravy, macaroni, dressing, sweet potatoes, and about 5-6 more dishes. My absolute favorite is the macaroni and cheese. Every 2 months i treat myself to a product with dairy in it, and this would be one of those times. Any time im here i have to have the macaroni. Next, i love their okra. I know most people like fried okra instead, but i happen to not be one of those people. The okra is seasoned well and extremely flavorful. I dont eat everyone's dressing, but their dressing is definitely in my top 3 favorite. They also are reasonably priced for catering food during Thanksgiving and Christmas, which i did for the first time last year. You wont be unsatisfied with your meal here (unless you aren't a fan of soul food), but I am and love coming here on Sundays to get my day going!

I knew that I wasn't trying to turn the stove on in 90 degree weather but at the same time it was time to feed me. I got on Yelp and found Priscilla's. I was like hey now; it's feed up time. Plenty of options from fish, chicken (of course) beef and a variety of side dishes to boot. It's basically a meat and two sides kind of set up. They post what items they have and on what days and if you leave here hungry it's because you are just plain stubborn. I got the short ribs of beef, collards and sweet potatoes or yams for ya southerners and a moist corn muffin. I had a belly full and the food needed no additional seasoning and the portions were generous. Table service by attendants to refill your drinks and bus your table. The sweet tea was delightful but not so sweet that it was diabetes water. This location offers free wifi and plenty of parking in the rear of the establishment. I can definitely see myself going back and trying other items on their vast menu. I had my mouth tuned for some oxtails but I was a day late. Call if in doubt on what's offered on any particular day.

Fried Chicken, Black Eye'd Peas, Collard Greens, Mac n Cheese, Corn Bread... What's not to like? This is a place worth experiencing. The food is good and the people were exceptional. I was surprised when I first walked it, I hadn't realized it was cafeteria style but this is okay with me. Actually, it is better because I was able to look at the food before I ordered. For example, I was considering on ordering Okra but when I saw it, it wasn't deep fried which is how I like it, as a result I skipped it (unless I was looking at the wrong thing). It states "Comfort Food" on the front of the building and this sums it up completely. Also, the Ambiance was comfortable and open to all walks of life. If you have a giant SUV or one of those dual cab dually pickup trucks, I suggest you park in the overflow lot which is just East of Priscilla's. The parking lot is tricky and tight in some areas. The only thing that occurred that shaved one star is that my Fried Chicken was room temperature if not a touch on the cool side. I understand that these things happen though and I'll be back. Good Job people at Priscilla's!

Priscilla hails from Alabama and I was told that she made the gumbo that was on that day. The gumbo was outstanding and this is from someone who lived on the Gulf Coast for over three years with numerous trips to New Iberia, Lafayette, and Saint Martinville in Louisiana. I am so glad I decided to go back and get a cup of this gumbo as I was leaving. The day I went to go sample some food there were a few customers but there was still plenty of room if you decided to dine in. I went with the Mac n cheese, collard greens, and smothered pork chops and it comes with a corn muffin. Each meal comes with two sides. The gravy on the tender chops was excellent and had great flavor. Seasoning was sufficient and not overpowering. The thickness of the gravy made for great sopping with my muffin. The collard greens were cooked just the way I liked it with some red paper flakes and pieces of hocks in it. Excellent flavor with a bit of heat. Mac n cheese was not the store bought stuff. It was the real deal and not just clumps of cheese. If you decide to go you might want to give them a call to see what is being served as each day brings a different selection of items. No matter what you choose I am sure you will be more than happy with your choice.

I have been going here for years. Best soul food period! I love the fried chicken, fried catfish, and smothered pork chops...hmmm. Definitely try the mac-n-cheese, collard greens, and cornbread dressing with gravy...delicious. The portions are large so I have never been able to eat a full plate at one sitting. I almost forgot about the pecan pie...amazing.

I was quite disappointed. This disappointment came from a 29-year-old "young lady" (as southerns like to refer to girls and women at all ages) who spent seven (7) year in South Carolina and knew her soul food. In fact, my in-laws and all husband's side of family were from Sumter, SC. Hence, when one of my colleagues recommended Priscilla's, I reckoned the importance to find out if this place was indeed the real deal. I've had one of the best while living in SC. Many of you knew Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives." There was an episode featuring the "Farmer's Shed," which is an awesome place for soul food and they do it well. I know Chicago's west Suburbs are way above the Mason-Dixie line. In this case, I will utilize the "Lizard's Thicket" as my control group, and Priscilla's as the experimental group. That's right! Soul-food comparisons ought to be done as "scientific" as possible, without a doubt! By the way, "Lizard's Thicket" is a chain, existing only in South Carolina, specializing southern food, if you haven't heard of it. I had the gumbo, and hubby chose the fried fish, with macaroni & cheese and candied yams as his sides. All meals came with corn bread. My gumbo was just ordinary. I found it unattractive and lacked "personality." The corn bread was a bit hard but still edible. On the other hand, the candied yams were WAY TOO cloying; I couldn't taste the natural sweetness coming from the yams at all. Someone must have mimicked the "Morton Salt" incident and replayed it with sugar onto the yams hubby was consuming. The funny thing was the macaroni & cheese was very bland; there was nothing special to it. The fried fish probably was the best dish out of everything we ordered. It was well-seasoned. The fish was crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside. The cleanliness and friendly service were the saving grace to salvage my rating to Priscilla's. The entire dining room was tidy and comfortable. The young man was very kind and continued to re-fill our drinks with his genuine smile. I don't see myself coming back here based on the food we had this evening. Sorry, Jessica (the colleague who suggested this place).

I've been here about 3-4 times & I've always gotten the same thing each time: Fried chicken, short ribs, greens, & yams. Short ribs THEBOMB.COM!!!! Chicken is good, but sometimes it hasn't been as fresh as it should be, but it's always seasoned well. Greens were good, yams were a lil too sweet this last trip. Nice workers. Nice atmosphere for dining in. You can also order take out. Meals are on the pricey end. BEWARE THEY HAVE WEIRD HOURS!!!! Everytime I try to go they're closed. So call 1st.

  • Meg P.

Alright food.... Ordered take out.. My mother is from the South, so she loves all Southern meals. This didn't really do it for us though We had the rib tips - YUM - fall off the bone delicious, salisbury steak - was too tough, sweet yams, greens, cabbage, pinto beans, and cornbread - too sweet - not the kind Ma enjoys... It was about $30 for two dinners. Bigger helpings.. Parking wasn't awful for me; went around 430pm on a Wed. Priscilla's was not busy - more people at the pick up counter than actually dining in. The counter girl wasn't too friendly and the phone girl taking my order seemed frazzled. Might return someday to give this place another shot

Me and several high school friends from class of '67 went there 7/16/15 and the food was great!!! The fried chicken and greens melt in your mouth! The serves were excellent - very cordial and fast. The table waiters were johnny on the spot on picking up dirty dishes. Nex time I am up that way, I will be getting a carry out to lavish my meal at home.

Good food at decent prices. I had the catfish and it was very meaty and clean with no bones to be found. The corn bread muffins were good. However they gave me one extra for my child I was sharing with thinking it was free but I was charged 50 cents. The mac and cheese is alright its missing something in flavor. The collards greens were right on delicious! I was sad when I ordered ice tea they have fresh brewed sweet tea however it was out of the soda fountain for unsweeten tea. It is cafeteria style but when you get to the table there is an attentive server getting drinks and cleaning up as you ate. My mom had ox tails not my thing but she said they were good. My daughter had the fried chicken and that was good too. I would go back if I am in the area just ordering water next time.

Came here again to long wait times with nowhere for carry out people to sit, misprinted menus, no website to look at food options before arrival. Just a shoddily done business. Might as well go to sharks for your fix, this place isn't worth it.

I've only eaten in Priscilla's once, but have gone there for takeout several times. The setup is really interesting. What's nice is there's parking in the back and I've never experienced not being able to find a parking spot. The dining room is a modest size and the food is served cafeteria style. Meaning you line up just like you did during high school and point out what you want to order. I go on Saturdays because that's when they have the meat loaf special. It's good and cheap. You can choose two sides with your entrees. I normally get the Mashed Potatoes and the Candy Yams. OMG...the Candy Yams are so good!! Of course I try to talk myself out of getting dessert and rationalize that the Candy Yams are my dessert, but that argument never wins. Once defeated I talk myself into getting dessert to supposedly save for "the next day" I love the Peach Cobbler. Not as good as my mom's, but a close second. Definitely recommend Priscilla's for some good soul food and a place to catch up with friends....or like me great to take home and pig out in the comforts of your home.

Went here today for lunch and I was really dissapointed. I ordered the fried catfish dinner with greens and mac and cheese for a side, and I also got a side of peach cobbler. The fish was mediocre at best, slightly bland. I mean I have had better catfish filets at Sharks ( for half the price!), or any other fast food seafood place. The Mac n cheese was a glorified version of KFCs Mac n cheese. Just more cheesy. Greens-bland Muffin- tasted like a cross between a jiffy mix muffin and a biscuit. I mean I love both of those seperately, but mixed together...NAW. The peach cobbler was BAD. There were hard pieces of stuff mixed in it, from what I don't know. It had too much nutmeg n waaaaaay to much lemon flavor. It was gross. I'm mad I wasted my time here. Should have listened to my sister.

Growing up on the south side and eating "Soul Food"was an everyday thing and I never imagined that I would go and pay for it. However, two years ago Big Mama passed and I haven't had a good old fashion "Soul Food" meal since. Today I stopped in and had the Beef Ribs, Mac & Cheese and some Cabbage and it took me back!!! The slow cooked beef ribs were tender, the mac & cheese was just right (so right I asked how they made it and no one would tell) and the cabbage was perfect! I'm taking a piece of the Red Velvet Cake home!!!! Overall it was a great meal that brought back memories of home cooked meals and I will be back!!!

Haven't been there in a few months. Not because of the food, but because of the prices. Don't get me wrong, it's not terribly pricey. Just more this what I would spend for lunch. The portions are huge and it about as authentic of soul food as I had. Just doesn't feel like home though. Feels more like a lunch line or a soup kitchen. I work with plenty of people who know soul food, and they say it is average. I mean it is good stick to your ribs kinda food. My main issue is that even though it is a lunch line system, you have to order drinks separately. Any time I see that at a restaurant, that screams desperation for unwarranted tips. I generally begrudgingly tip them of course, but I'd like to get my own fountain drink. Although it is a good enough place to eat, it is much more pocket friendly to go to other local joints.

This is the premier spot for soul food in Chicagoland. I go either here or to their Express location in Hanover Park, which is closer to me at the moment. About the only reasons I give this location 4 stars is because: 1) Parking here is atrocious (especially on weekends). 2) The wait time and lines are horrible as well. Though to be fair I guess I can't blame them for everybody and their Mama coming here. I just wish they could manage it a little better as I'm surprised I haven't seen fights break out over it. I'm grateful for the express location which is much faster but obviously a more limited selection of what you can get at the main spot.

The food here is okay. They could kick up the seasoning. Just had the fish dinner. The fish was okay, cabbage was very bland, and my Mac and cheese was okay. This is not your mamma's Sunday diner but its okay in a pinch. The service is VERY slow and VERY unorganized. Just be prepared to wait if you get a take out order. This is not a quick in and out.

Meh. I ordered the fish dinner with a side of greens and mac&cheese. The fish was the blandest fish I've ever ate. Its a no-go in my opinion. The greens were good, but not great. The mac&cheese. Well well well now that is an entirely different story. It is cheesy, creamy & delicious. Its the only thing that would keep me coming back.

The only reason I don't eat here everyday for lunch and dinner, is that I don't live close enough! The food is wonderful, fresh, tasty, and just everything you but possibly want, megayum! I have taken many people of various ethnicities to Priscilla's, and to a man, everybody has found something that they absolutely love. Wonderful comfort food with a southern flair, recommended to everyone, if you haven't been here, get up and get going and get here! Recommend the catfish, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, fried chicken, and the cabbage!

Ordered a lunch catfish and fried chicken set meal with two sides each and a corn bread and a drink. Cost of the food came close to $30. The catfish was fresh, hot, and well seasoned. The fried chicken was fried crisp and just about right with the seasoning, The food was not at all oily which indicates that the chicken was fried at a high temperature. The collard greens with the pork were somewhat salty but not those with the turkey. The beans were cooked pretty well and a little spicy. The mac and cheese was a little weak. But overall the dining experience and the quality of food was good. The staff was attentive and respectful, and welcoming. Well maintained and clean restaurant with parking lots located at the back. We noticed the minute we left there were cleaners which cleared the table rather quickly. If you come on a Sunday, go before 12.15pm. We went into the restaurant at 11 something and got out by the time the crowds were starting to fill the restaurant. I will definitely come back again.

This review is difficult for me. I've been several times now, I want to enjoy this food, but the taste is below average for me. I have lowered my expectations when it comes to soul food. I have accepted that it won't taste like my mom's, but this isn't close. I paid $15 for the beef short ribs with two side dishes. The ribs tasted good but the dressing was awful. Unfortunately there aren't many places with great soul food. Overall, it's good BUT not great. My sweet potatoe pie was awful.. don't buy! I don't eat peach cobbler, but I heard it was great.

Wilbur said this was country eating and soul food like his grandma used to make. I'd have to take his word for it since she passed before my time. It really is an ultimate soul food cafe! So much comfort food and variety! We ordered: Fried Chicken The shining star. It's juicy but I wasn't gaga about the seasoning and batter. Fried Catfish Yup! When in Rome and decent. Cole Slaw Didn't try. He aced it. Mac and Cheese Thick. Mashed potatoes Straight forward. Greens Just ok but my partner loved them. Good meal and value but um, no beer and wine? What is this the eighties? On that note...I guess...it's not ideal for a date but very low key, cozy and family friendly. The value, portions, and vibe satisfied like a meal with gramma.

I absolutely love this place! I have had the smothered pork chops, catfish, chicken, mac and cheese, greens, peach cobbler, and caramel cake. Everything was very tasty. It is very hard to find good macaroni and cheese but this us the best one I've had so far. I highly recommend this place. I gave it a 4 and not a 5 because it can be pricy depending on what you order.

I am a huge fan of Priscilla's in Hillside Illinois! I have been here twice in one week. This place has amazing food and will not disappoint. I have truly enjoyed the ambiance, the cafeteria environment reminded me of my high school days, food, that is succulent, and the cost, which didn't give me the feeling that I had just been robbed. The ambiance was very inviting at Priscilla's. The serving line reminded me of a high school cafeteria. The big bay windows; was a plus because they kept my children entertained and I myself enjoyed the scenery. My children were counting cars, while I carried on a conversation. Priscilla's has some amazing, mouthwatering tasting food. I had the fried chicken, fried catfish, and three sides. The chicken and catfish was crisp to perfection, without greasy residue. I also had a serving of collard greens with smoked turkey, dressing with gravy, and Mac &cheese. Even though, the entrees change from day to day, Priscilla's do not disappoint. Priscilla's are well known for their fried chicken, friend catfish, and smothered short ribs. They have a good reputation for fresh hand picked greens. The cost to eat at Priscilla's is very reasonable. I had the chicken meal it cost me $10.99. The servings are very generous. I feed my children and myself on the one meal and was full. After we finished eating, we had left over's to take home. I dined with my friend and her daughter as well; they had a catfish meal and the both of them ate off that one meal. Their catfish meal cost them $12.99 and there were three sides as well. Not to mention that we all had drinks too. I feel that with pricing such as Priscilla's, were I feed my family a great meal and it didn't cost over $50 dollars is wonderful. This place is top quality in soul food. Priscilla's is a place you do not want to miss out on. With their dashing environment, fabulous mouthwatering food, and the penny pinching savings, you just can't beat it. This place is definitely something to write home about. It gives you that southern home feel that reminds you of your mother's cooking. Priscilla's is the place you need to rush too.

By far I love this! Fried chicken and greens with turkey, side of Mac and Cheese and I can say this was worth it. I have been wanting to come here for many years, but of course its so out of the way. I was in the vicinity on a day off and decided it is time to meet Ms Priscilla! So glad I did. Although at first I was confused with the emptiness of the joint. But then again it seems like the just had opened and I was lucky to of gotten here when I did. Just walk in and go through the isle and if your dining in, get your cutlery and tray, order and pay. There is usually someone who will bring your water and hot sauces (yes) to your table, very nice gentleman. It was so worth it coming here and I am so glad that I finally was able to taste what all my friends were talking about. Absolutely southern and I would come again and again and again. They seemed to of had everything fresh and this I an appreciate. Come in and let your southern soul food touch be satisfied.

GREAT FIND!!! I've driven passed Priscilla's occasionally for years and glad I finally ate here!!! I've seen the "soul food", "Collard greens", and "Ox tail" signs as I drove by, and had no real idea what made up "soul food"and was always curious to check it out. Since none of my friends had ever eaten there, when it came time to head out, it never leaped to mind as a choice. I drove passed it two times over two days with a different sets of friends each time as we were heading to eat. Both times it was mentioned as a place we were always curious to check it out... today we made a U turn and headed there. First thing I noticed was the parking, which is pretty poorly laid out. The lot wasn't packed, but there were quite a few cars there and getting out after we ate was a little awkward. But overall, it hardly earns a blip when compared to the food. After you walk in, it's a causal laid back dinning environment with a cafeteria style line. There's a daily menu, which seem to change by day with what's being served each day. So what's available one day won't be available another. I was mostly chatting with friends as we waited to go through the line, and wasn't paying a lot of attention to the people ahead of me. At one point I noticed it was taking a little longer to work our way through the line than I would have expected. I saw there were several other posts mentioning getting through the line took a while. From what I saw, this was not an issue with the servers, but rather with the customers chatting with them. Presumably asking what dish is better than the other. As it came to my turn to be served, I asked the women behind the serving line which dishes they liked best and would recommend. Her and the other servers were very friendly and helpful with their opinions, and served my meal quickly once I made my selection. I went with the fried chicken, mac & cheese and mash potato's. Which was an excellent suggestion because it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. I'm a single guy and it took me back to meals my grandmother would cook me as a child. The chicken was excellent! After spending decades eating KFC or Popeye chicken, I had almost forgotten what good chicken tastes like. It was very juicy, and the fried skin was dry and not greasy at all. The mac & cheese was flat out incredible.... and easily the best I've ever had. About my only complaint would be the mash potato's were a bit plain, and the bowl it came in was a bit small to really smoother it with gravy... But it was still very good. It was such a filling meal I couldn't finish it. They had a server guy walking around refilling drinks, and getting us hot sauce, and such... Which was a very friendly and helpful guy. After we left we went to hang out with some other friends and all 3 of us immediately bragged on this place and made sure everyone else knew it was a huge thumbs up I will definitely be back to this place with other friends in tow.

I'm fairly new to posting on Yelp, although I've relied on others' feedback for years. This is a place that I love that I had to give a favorable post although I haven't been to Priscilla's in about 6 months. I've eaten there for years and the food's always hot, delicious, and juicy. I didn't give this spot 5 stars because the service is consistently lackluster. You get a tiny cup of soda and it seems to take forever to get someone's attention to get a refill. You can get your own soda but the machine is right next to the register so if you were to get your refill on your own you'd have to cut the people in line waiting to purchase their food. If you're going to get an order to go, I recommend either placing your to-go order before you eat so that it can already be in your possession when you're ready to go or phone in your order if you don't plan on staying. Although it's a cafeteria style restaurant, I'm not too sure why it takes so long to make to-go containers when the food's already prepared.

I have a different experience each time I visit this place. Since I didn't feel like driving far to I decided to give them another shot even after worst experiences that I've had. The prices are extremely ridiculous considering the fact that you can go to any other soul food place and get two meals for the price of their one meal. I ordered beef short ribs, macaroni, greens and a side of dressing and the total was $21. None of the food had any flavor except the short ribs the macaroni was very plain you couldn't even taste the cheese the greens no seasoning and the dressing taste like nothing but corn bread. I definitely will never go back

Yum! Yum! and Yum!! Gumbo so good that it rivals ANY place out in New Orleans!! And I know, have tried enough of it in the Big Easy! ~ Low key, but comfy, cozy place. Very attentive and friendly staff. HOMEMADE food that you really can't find at many places anymore!! Their yams are amazing - ginger and orange glaze - this is what they've been missing! And not too sweet! ~ Catfish was fork tender. Fried Chicken has some of the best breading ever - not too heavy so you're weighed down! Nice and crispy! And their smothered pork chops my son ordered were not only gianormous! But could cut them with a fork!! Delicious too! No room for dessert! But we'll save that for the next time around! ;) ~ Hidden jem that is absolutely well worth checking out! Will be glad you did!!

So. Good. The ox tail is amazing. I've also had the beef short ribs which are awesome. Mac and cheese, fried chicken, greens, cornbread -- all delicious. It's cafeteria style, but there is also a server who comes around and fills your drink, grabs you some cornbread in case you forgot, etc. This place is definitely a treat and would recommend to anyone in the area!

  • Livvy O.

Pros: Great food always....they are always consistent. You get a great selection of different items. I always love the catfish and fried chicken. All their sides are amazing! I normally get mashed potatoes, corn, greens, yams, a variety of different beans, etc. I would get all of them if I could hold all that in my stomach! You only get 2 though. All orders come with a side of cornbread too. The price is good for all that you get. The customer service is always great. Cons: If you're ordering to go, it can be a wait. It is best to eat in if you are hungry now. I wish they were open more days and later because every time I want Priscilla's; they are never open!! If they were open more, I would probably be a weekly or biweekly customer!

Not much that I can add to this from what I said previously. The food is always solid especially for the price you pay (between $8.99-$12.99). Tremendous value as I see it. Don't expect to help your diet (if you're on one). Never a bad meal. The only warning I have (if there is one) is that Sundays get VERY tight. Parking can get tight and the place is full or almost full. Expect that going in should you decide to go on a Sunday. If I ate here every week, I'd be 500 lbs. I have yet to try the desserts but the cobbler always sells out when I go (so that's a good sign). Too bad places like these are a dying breed.

Had a combo of fried catfish and fried chicken. Sides of Mac and cheese (lots of cheese) and pinto beans and rice . All were good. Only complaint was the cocktail sauce was in a package as was the lemon for my dispensed tea. Would have expected pitchers of fresh tea and freshly cut lemon. Portions were really large. It was hard to choose with so many choices. Will definitely return.

Me and the wife went for a late lunch, so it was pretty empty. You get served cafeteria style so you grab a tray and then tell the server what you want. My wife got the fried chicken with collard greens and Mac and cheese. I got the short ribs with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The fried chicken tasted homemade and not greasy. Very good. The Mac and cheese was equally amazing. I think the best side was the collard greens. They were perfectly seasoned and had great texture. I'm sure if we went mode towards lunchtime the sides would have been even better. The short ribs were tender and the gravy was delicious. These servings aren't small either. My wife couldn't finish her meal and I could barely finish mine. Service was great. Everyone was really nice and polite. They even have workers to give you refills and clean up after you. They have a revolving menu that changes daily, I believe the only constants are the short ribs and fried chicken. Check their website before you go so you know they have something you want to try. I am definitely coming back to try the ox tails out!

Priscilla's, if I had one word to describe this place it would be consistent. When I lived in Chicago I would go there frequently so I've tried pretty much everything there. The quality of food, service, and cleanliness are always really good. I personally don't care for the Priscilla's Punch it's just a bit to sweet for me. You really can't go wrong with anything on the food menu. If you're looking for true authentic soul food this is your place!

The people here are really friendly. It's a cafeteria style place. But don't be fooled, it is not cheap. We spent over $50 for two adults and two little kids, but we ate well and we had some leftovers. This place is definitely worth a visit. I enjoyed the food. Kids loved the mac and cheese. I enjoyed the collard greens and fried fish. The fried chicken was just ok. I would come back for sure when I'm in the mood for southern homestyle cooking.

Dang, that we good. I miss the days of Army and Lou's on the south side, but this place brought back the memory of this much-missed, long gone restaurant. Friendly staff. Cafeteria style ordering. Atmosphere isn't much to talk about but the food is! I had the standard of fried chicken, Mac and cheese and greens. It is chest- clutching, artery-clogging good and so bad for you. Everything behind the glass looked great: ribs, sides, etc. Will go back after the bypass!

  • John K.

Wow. I worked on the South Side of Chicago for 6 years, and thought I had tried all of the best soul food in the area. I was wrong! This might be the best soul food in Chicagoland! The service is nice and folksy, the atmosphere is friendly without being too informal, and the food itself is amazing. I got the beef short ribs, mac and cheese, corn, a roll, and a Pepsi. My bill was $16. The beef short ribs were unreal. Falling off the bone and everything. Just amazing. The corn was good and sweet and not overcooked. The mac and cheese was very, very good. They clearly know this is a big item for everybody, and you can tell by the consequential amount of attention that goes into it. The roll was good too. In conclusion, this is some of the best Soul Food I've ever had. I'm excited to go back and try the catfish, and see how it stacks up to BJ's Market's!

We had a great time at this restaurant! City folks, consider stopping here before or after a visit to the Morton Arboretum, where you can burn off some of these soul food calories. Authentic sides including collard greens, black-eyed peas, dressing, etc. are the highlight for me. The turkey and gravy featured on our Sunday visit was juicy and luscious comfort. Gigantic portions offered plenty to take home. My one complaint is that catfish -- while tender, meaty, and crisp -- was overly salty. I'm willing to give it another try. It would be nice if lemon juice came with it, so that I didn't have to ask. The crowd was very friendly, and we chatted with strangers while waiting in line. No room for dessert! Maybe next time.

  • Patricia M.

Simply the best soul food in Chicagoland! This is homestyle cooking at its best. The oxtails are my Thursday's selection. It is so tender and falls off the bone! The yams and turkey greens are my choice of sides. Of note, I went to a famous soul food restaurant in Atlanta, GA recently and stood in line for two hours. I was not impressed and said to myself, I can't wait to get back home and have some real soul food @ Priscilla's! Keep doing what you are doing!

So I gave them another shot. Short ribs were incredible. Yams were good. Greens were still excellent. This will be the go to place when my wallet feels decidedly thick and my stomach feels decidedly empty.

I think we went here on an off night at an off time. There was one other party there and I believe they were family or friends because it appeared to me that they were regulars. Priscilla greeted us right when we walked in. She's one in a million. Such a pleasant woman. Really made us feel welcome. We went in because I believe my sister read about this place on Yelp! You get way too much food. For about $30 two people can eat dinner and have left overs for about 3 more meals. It's a shame that nothing you get here really reheats well. Fried Chicken, Fried Shrimp, Fried Catfish, Beef Short Ribs, Mac & cheese, greens, dressing, and corn. I went for the chicken- I asked for white meat only, which she was kind enough to let me do, but is not a regular option on their menu- it should be. The sides, unfortunately, had obviously been sitting a while, so they were a little dried out, but they gave us plenty of food to choose from. If, when you sat down to eat, you did not like something, there was so much food on the table between 3 of us that we just tried something someone else had. Everything really tasted delicious. I just think we need to go on a Sunday afternoon when they are really going because my chicken was a bit dried out, but OMG! the seasoning was incredible. I basically ate it because the seasoning was just so good and drank enough to wash down the meat. :) They claim to make homemade desserts. I don't 100% believe this, but hey, maybe they do. I'm no expert (well, not officially) I was thinking they might be good for to-go because I can pick up one dinner and share it with my boyfriend at home but when I looked around for a to go menu, I was not able to locate one. Perhaps they were just out, but they really should think about getting menus printed if they currently do not. I will occasionally flip through the menus at home to help us decide where we are going to eat for dinner that night and Priscilla's will not be in my stack of options.

Took me forever to get here and I finally made it! Yet another bang for your buck sorta place! Beef short ribs fell off the bone! Mac and cheese(my fav) was very rich and cheesy! Collard greens and corn for veggie factor were up to snuff. Old school strawberry crush...hello! And some Caramel Cake straight out of The Help! Yummo! Ill have to get back soon!

mmmmmm....cozy soul food! We had the smothered chicken and fried catfish with candied yams and mac and cheese. Definitely hits the spot when you want something cozy and belly-filling. People are super friendly and definitely a great family joint. Will be back to try some smothered pork chops and fried chicken! Tastes home made...feels home made....and like that it's low-key / cafeteria style!

AMAZING CANDY YAMS. Can I just say THANK YOU for all the lovely people working in Priscilla's, for an amazing time and lunch. The food was so good... and I took some corn bread back with me to Miami for my girlfriend. Pig out at Priscillas!

This place is AWESOME! Prices are low, staff is super friendly and food in fantastic! I have tried the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, turkey greens, smothered pork chops, corn bread, mac n cheese and braised short ribs. All were great! Corn bread is most and slightly sweet - my favorite. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes and desserts!

There are not many Soulfood restaurants in the west suburbs so this place gets two stars from me just for the convenience of location. With the cost of gas at an all time high, I love the fact that going to Priscilla's saves me a trip into the city to go to MacArthur's (West Side) or even further to one of the many South Side Soulfood spots. I have met the owner and cook Mrs. Priscilla on several occasions and she is as sweet as her delectable Peach Cobbler. While as a whole, it is usually a solid dining experience there are some things to consider before you go. First, if you have any time constraints and are looking for a quick meal in between engagements, Do Not, I repeat Do Not, go on a Sunday afternoon when the church crowd is arriving. If you do, you can expect a long wait, boisterous crowds and a sub-par customer service experience. This rule applies to both carryout and dine-in service. You are almost guaranteed an hour wait for either on Any Given Sunday (sorry I couldn't resist the movie reference). I personally recommend trying it out on a Friday or Saturday when it is less populated but the food is still good. Second, the portions are generous but the food could be considered pricey. You can easily spend $20 per person by the time you add drinks and dessert. There are a plethora of down-home, feel good options that have tempted many taste buds but provided sticker shock at the cash register. Also, they have continued to increase prices exponentially over the years, but the portions have not increased in fact many say they have decreased. But since most people still love the food and the convenience of not having to slave over a hot stove all day, the crowds have remained the same. Finally, this place is a Soulfood cafeteria. So no romantic vibe here unless you and your significant other bring it with you. LOL Just a note for the fellas, in case you were thinking of making this a first date selection. However, depending on your end of the night plans, it might work for you. Eating these delicious but heavy meals is sure to land you in bed by the end of the night, but you will both probably be dead asleep. LOL Just a joke people.

I absolutely love this place! Best soul food that i have found in so long.....everything i have had from here is delicious. The portions are very large , and ranging in prices from 8.99 to 11.99 and you get two sides with your meal. i had Smothered chicken, mac n cheese, greens, gumbo...all of it. Its great and cheap! Great service, and when you get there all the food is ready when you arrive so there's only waiting in line. =)

4 stars. Lost a star just because the prices are too high for a soul food joint in the 'burbs. I can say that 4 outta 5 times your meal is going to be AMAZING! However, they do have 'off' days/nights. Especially, if you go too late... you don't want the scrappings. Anyway, the fried chicken is usually amazing. Stick with the wings and dark meat. The breasts are usually too dry. The mac-n-cheese is great. They must put nutmeg in theirs b/c is has a little something special goin' on with it. I like that the cheese is always plentiful! You never have to ask them for a specific scoop - it's all yummy, gooey deliciousness. The greens (with pork) are a favorite of mine. I think that they have greens with turkey and greens with pork on Sundays - to please the masses that decend on the place after church. But, I'm completely fine with the swine! :) Catfish is pricey, but delish! Short ribs are kinda messy, but really tasty. I'm not a fan of the "smothered" anything here - porkchops, chicken, doesn't matter. Stay away. Ask them to put some syrup (or pot liquor) from the candied yams on your cornbread as you are going through the line. That is dessert in itself! For that reason, I have never had an actual cake or pie or pudding from this joint - EVER! As for logistics: Avoid this place like the plague between 1 and 3 on Sundays. Churches in the area get out around that time and it's like 1/2 the congregation makes a beeline for Priscilla's! It's off the chain... parking is crazy and the line can be out the door. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. For some reason, these are the two days of the week that I crave this place the most. (Seems like I get a hankerin' for a Chickfil-a ice dream on Sunday afternoons, too! Closed Sunday. Aargh!) Just don't be like me and forget until you pull up and the shades are down! I hate when that happens... Don't be afraid to make your own parking spot. The practice is widely accepted. CALL AHEAD! , if you are ordering to-go. Otherwise, the wait is inexplicably long - even when there is absolutely no one in line. It boggles the mind... Skip the child's plate... it's more economical just to do the reg. You get so much more food for like a $1 or so more. And, to all the dieters and calorie counters out there. This place just ain't for you. Even the veggies are off limits for you. Don't even try it. Now, I'm craving this place... maybe I'll swing through and pick up dinner! Oh, crap.... nevermind... it's Monday... they are closed. Arrgh!

I went here again on a Wednesday a week ago, and the food was still great. There was no oxtail that day, so I opted for the liver and onions. I also got the yams instead of the mac and cheese. The yams were delicious, and so was the liver! The cornbread and greens were tasty as well. I look forward to coming back and trying more entrees. 5 stars/5

When there yesterday with my husband to try it out. We did take out since we were getting food for Easter as well. This is not food I would eat since it is to heavy for me however my husband love it. The place was not busy however we had to wait a long time for our order which is why it only got 4 and not 5 stars. When we got home I was putting on of the orders the beef short ribs on a plate for him and had to taste one since it looked so good. I was not just good but great. I also had some of the mac and cheese it was also great. My husband had the greens, yams and peach cobbler and liked everything. I know we will be back, it is really just good food and the price was okay as well. The woman who took our order was so sweet a big thank you to her.

I am a BIG FAN of Priscilla's. The ONLY reason I don't give it a full 5 stars is because I would truly prefer waitress service and the bathrooms are kind of weird. I'd prefer to give it 4.5stars because dayummm! the food is so good. An earlier review said the portions were too small for the prices. The last time I was here, I came for lunch by myself. Did they skimp on portion sizes because it was "lunch" and that I was a solo diner? Heck no, if anything they packed on even more food into than usual! It's true the prices have gone up $2-3 since we first started coming here 2-4yrs ago, but seriously, what hasn't gone up except for the malignant Dolla Menu @ the big M? No way a flimsy hamburger can compete with the fresh fried Catfish and Short Ribs here at Priscilla's. Love their sauce, I want my own bottle for home! I generously drizzle it on practically everything .... Except for dessert. How I love the peach cobbler. They don't have it every day, as their menu rotates during the days they are open. That stuff is divine. I dont care if it looks like the peaches are the diced from a can -- somehow they craft it into a taste you'll want to keep on your tongue! To spy what specials might be lurking, keep an eye out for the "smaller" steam table against the wall, near the kitchen door, in the serving area. That is where an easily overlooked taste treat might be stationed instead of the main steam table. Like the peach cobbler. I've never seen it displayed on the primary steam table, always the one in back ;) The one funny thing that happened to us, is that we thought we were picking up a pudding this one time (as it was right near the desserts), but it was actually a mashed potato salad that is served cold. So just watch for the white- and mutilcolored (because of the other veggies) 'pudding' right next to the red velvet or lemon-frosted cake -- it might be a savory and not a sweet. Take out can be really slow, according to my other half -- So we prefer to eat-in. Better hurry up and get in the car to go here now! Only open Wed through Sunday. Really packed on Sunday after church services start letting out.

3 STARS *** Because I've gotten lazy over the years, among other reasons, I go to Priscilla's strictly for the corn muffins and candied yams/sweets, that's THE ONLY REASON. 1 star * Priscilla's, please clean/paint the west entry door that leads to the kitchen, it is FILTHY. Also, there's a musty smell throughtout the place, I believe the carpeting is the culprit. It's time for a Priscilla's in-house makeover, don't ya think?......GETTING MONEY, USE $!

Unbelievable fried chicken! This place has the best fried chicken I've ever had. Way better than Chicken N Spice! It also makes sense that their other fried foods are also the best I've had, particularly the catfish. My wife doesn't even like catfish but ended up eating a fillet. The sides are even better. Corn muffins that actually taste like corn, and not sugar. Green beans made from fresh beans with smoked turkey in them, mac & cheese that'll blow your mind, and peach cobbler like you wouldn't believe. Also, the best sweet tea I've had since my vacation to Gatlinburg, TN. We were checked up on several times throughout our meal, and the server more than deserved his tip by refilling our tea and water before we even ran out, bringing us extra napkins, bringing other condiments such as hot sauce and tartar sauce when we ran low. As for the racial thing somebody mentioned: You can't get much whiter than us. Scottish/Czech, yet nobody looked at us funny, everyone was friendly, and we weren't the only white people there (gasp).

So, I haven't been "yelping" for very long. But I'm proud to say that Priscilla's is my first Yelp discovery that I've actually gone out & tried. After reading so many positive reviews, I couldn't pass it up for much longer. After telling the girl about it, she suggested we make it our Valentines Day destination. I quickly coincided. Afterall, what's more romantic than a cafeteria style comfort food haven where you can slob down on some fried chicken? All seriousness aside, I love the concept of this place: good, simple food. And the fact that it's a 15 minute or less drive from me makes it even more perfect. I'm going to be honest here: upon walking in, we grew a little tense, as we were only one of two non-black couples in the place. Never being one to put much emphasis on race, I said "screw it, we're here to eat like everybody in else". And I quickly learned that the staff at Priscilla's is quite nice & helpful. As for the food? It was just as I expected. The chicken was rich with flavor. The mac & cheese was some of the cheesiest I've ever had at a restaurant. And the mashed potatoes & gravy was very flavorful. Some of the best tasting gravy I've ever had, in fact! The corn bread muffin was even good, although a little dry. But some gravy & hot sauce remedied that quite well. I definitely consider Priscilla's one of those "where've you been all my life?" type places. I'm anxious to get back & try the ribs that everybody is raving about. Even though I was definitely eyeballing that fried catfish. Whatever the case, upon another visit, I'm very confident I will be updating Priscilla's to 5 stars.

Pretty good. Whenever I don't feel like cooking a soul food dinner, this is my go-to place. I've tried the fried chicken and catfish, greens, mashed potatoes, and dressing. I enjoyed it all. Just added a lil salt and pepper here and there and even had enough to take home. The mac & cheese want a winner, though...tasted like Krafts.

SUPER busy Sunday afternoon at this place when I decided to stop in and get something for Fred to eat. It's cafeteria style unless you get it to go...then you have to wait in a different line and they pack it up for you in the back and bring it out. The staff was friendly, a little standoffish...but friendly none the less. I ordered 1/2 short ribs and 1/2 fried chicken with mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and black eyed peas. It came with a corn muffin which was AMAZEBALLS!! And I also ordered a side of bread pudding. The chicken was the standout of all the savory food, the short ribs were super tender...but nothing really special, the mashed potatoes definitely tasted like they were out of a box and my friend said she used to work at the wholesaler that sells them their food and that they buy the macaroni and cheese in frozen pans! But it was good...but if that is true...that's just redic!! And the bread pudding...let me tell you...was probably the worst thing I have everrrr put it my mouth! And I am usually not too picky when it comes to bread pudding cause I love the stuff...but this one...was inedible! There was wayyy too much cloves or something up in there! The best part about the whole experience was as I was walking out, one of the customers sitting close to the door said to me, "Gon' head and getch yo ass up on outta here!" Yes...she went there. Just cause I was the only non-black person in there shouldn't mean shit in this day in age!! That just pretty much ruined it for me! So...probbbb won't be going back...unless I am in dire need for one of those corn muffins...and even then...I would have to be prepared to throw down cause next time I won't be so polite as I was this time!

I would give this place 5 stars if not for the pricing and the surly staff. I ordered a dark meat fried chicken meal with 2 sides and cornbread. The sides were collards and mac/cheese. Flavor-wise, the fried chicken was fantastic and possibly some of the best I have ever had. It wasn't overly battered or breaded and the meat was juicy and finger licking good. The sides were also pretty damn good. So why only 3 stars you may ask. That meal was $10. For $10, I received 3 pieces of chicken; 2 drums and 1 thigh. I don't know if they are sourcing chickens from farms that can't pay feed bills but the 2 drums were around the size of wing drumettes and the thigh was pretty small as well. On top of that, I went after lunch and before dinner so it wasn't busy but there was seriously some of the most unfriendly people working there. That's not what you would expect from a place that serves soul food.

They need to provide a healthier choice selection and a better portion control with the food..honestly I don't eat here because my mother dance circles around Percilia's soul food....btw the cemetery that sit across the street from Percillia is there for a reason......

Still not loving this place. Husband came for short ribs and I decided to just go with the flow and get the Turkey leg. Little did I know that means I get 10 pounds of bone on my plate. I went with the corn and stuffing as my sides and got a drink to wash it down. After picking what little meat there was off the ten pounds of bones, I tried the stuffing - too weird and sweet - dry and pasty as well. Corn was obviously canned - but no complaints there. The "waiter" came and gave us glasses of water and introduced himself and then never came back - so, I obviously knew we were supposed to leave a tip, but this is really the first time I felt cheated about it. I mean, you could have gotten us a refill - then at least I would feel like you were doing something for the money. Whatever. I'm hoping to talk the husband out of coming back here again.

Priscilla's is what it feels like to have died and gone to heaven...literally, kind of. I say this because it's across the street from a huge cemetery and next door to a large grave stone shop. Don't let this deter you. The inside of the restaurant is warm and friendly and the expansive greens of the cemetery is actually peaceful coming in through the large windows. Priscilla's is a "cafeteria" so you go up to the counter and pick what you want to eat and they serve it to you and you take your tray to the cashier. All of the women working there were so genuinely nice. The southern theme of the food also applies to the gracious service we received. Now on to the important part...BEST FRIED CHICKEN EVER!!! I don't want to have to write the rest of this review in caps, so please read everything with proper excitement. Plump, juicy chicken with amazingly crisp, perfectly seasoned skin. I have never had better. The sides were also perfection. Mac and cheese the way it should be...when they scoop it out for you, a long string of cheese follows. The mashed potatoes were homemade and good but they were highlighted by the yummy gravy that came with them. All meats come with 2 sides and a cornbread muffin. The muffin was crisp on top but moist on the inside and definitely didn't need to be dunked in gravy to make it taste better, but that didn't stop me from doing it. I also tried my friend's smothered ribs, and that was like big strips of pot roast covered in southern gravy. Very rich, but very tasty. And don't forget to wash everything down with Priscilla's Punch. It's really just red kool aid with extra sugar but that's awesome, right? Priscilla's is located right off 290 and Manheim Rd. It may seem like it's far from the city, but it's really not if you have a car. I got there in 20 minutes from Bucktown. If you don't have a car, I suggest you beg, borrow or steal one to take the trip. Yes, this food is that good. In fact, why are you still reading this review? You should be mapquesting directions. Go...NOW!!

I always leave Priscilla's completely satisfied. The food is great. Never good one day and bad the next. They are consistent in their customer service as well. I've tried many of their selections. The meat is tender, sides are well seasoned and the desserts are perfectly sweet. Plus, they give great portions, enough to take home and eat later. It's a great place to dine with your family for that down home cooking you can ususlly only get in grandma's kitchen.

So after hearing so much about Priscilla's, I was beyond excited when my younger brother decided to take me here for a meal. After trying to park in the HORRIBLY designed PARKING LOT for 15 minutes, I was frustrated and ready to leave, when finally we were able to get a spot that was out of the way enough that I felt comfortable getting out of the car without feeling like someone was going to come along and tear off my front end. On to the food, Priscilla's is set up cafeteria style and when you walk in you have to get in the line to the right for dine-in or the line to the left for carry-out; both options were jam packed. We opted for carry-out because it didn't look like any tables would be clearing up anytime soon and they are first-come first-serve (keep that in mind if you go here to eat). Ordered the Baked half chicken, yams (sweet potatoes), collard greens, dressing (cornbread stuffing), and red velvet cake. My brother had a similar meal with fried chicken and macaroni instead of collard greens. I guess I was expecting more from the meal than what I got. Nothing tasted bad, actually the BAKED CHICKEN was VERY GOOD, as were the yams, but the dressing was sweet. Personally I was not expecting the dressing to be sweet, I prefer more of a sage taste and I like to add cranberry sauce, but in this case the dressing tasted sweetened. So I would go back for the chicken, but the side dishes left something to be desired. It's pricey for a cafeteria style restaurant. Meals for 2, Cilla-sized, ran about 38 dollars, no tip since we carried out. I'm torn on whether or not I will go back, but overall I'm glad I went.

I am very picky about customer service. You can have the greatest establishment in the world, but if I don't feel comfortable there, I most likely wont be back. The service: I went to Priscilla's at my husband request. After searching for the place (there is no clear signage and the driver way to the parking lot is very small) I tried to park in the most awkwardly designed parking lot ever. You have to see it to realize how bad it is. When I went in the restaurant, its set up cafeteria style, yes like in high school. I wanted take out so I read all the various signs and make eye contact waiting for someone to help me, no one did. But I did get a few curious looks. When I finally found the take out counter, there was no one at the register to take my order. Several employees saw me standing there and no one asked me if I needed help. When a young lad y finally did come out to take my order, she kept looking at the customer who was obviously complaining about something. I never had her full attention and asked her to repeat my order just to make sure she had it right. MAJOR ATTITUDE was given in return. I paid and waited for my order. when it arrived, a gentlemen came out the back, yelled out my number and left the counter. There were two bags there and I had to ask another customer which was mine. The food: the food was pretty good. The portions are huge and everything was seasoned well. It was also reasonably priced. I had the brisket and ordered baked chicken for my husband. We each had sides of greens, macaroni and stuffing. i really liked the food, but I probably wont be back because of the customer service. I will instead, send my husband :)

I went to St. Louis and stopped at the fame Sweetie Pies Soulfood (as seen on OWN). It was good but I have to say that Priscilla's is even BETTER. Try the yams, the greens and Catfish. You will not be disappointed (but if you are....check your taste buds!!!).

The food is 4 star quality, but the pricing for this cafeteria style soul food is outrageous. I love cafeterias, it's an efficient way for restaurants to pass on cost savings to consumers, and the food was good. However, I spent nearly 40 bucks on a Sunday for a friend and I to eat a piece of fish, some chicken, a small side salad, a side of mashed potatoes, collards, two macaroni's, and two drinks. That is why I'll never be back because the value just isn't there. The ambiance is okay, however the line is pretty ineffecient because it takes forever to pay. So you end up waiting in line while they figure out a way to charge you prior to you eating your food...not a good idea Priscilla, it would be better off to let us chow down and then pay after like other dining establishments because that takes the comfort out of comfort food, Priscilla. I would have less of an issue if they passed the savings down of cutting their overhead by not having to really have a waitress system in place or cook individual food orders. Your food rocks, your prices don't. Best of luck.

I used to frequent a Priscilla's Soulfood in the south suburbs with incredible food. That Priscilla always talked about opening a place up north. I asked the staff but no one knew anything about that Priscilla. Well anyway, the fried chicken reigns here but I think I found the perfect meal here. Yes, I said PERFECT. No, not just soulfood perfect but utopia perfect. *Play fanfare here* This combination consists of: Meat = Smothered pork chops. On the verge of falling apart and doused in an oniony but not overpowering gravy. Starch = Macaroni and cheese. There have been Yelp threads about macaroni and cheese and this is a winner. The macaroni is cooked up just right with a generous amount of cheese. I may come in here once and order up a whole plate of just macaroni and cheese. Vegetable = Greens. Aromatic greens cooked up just right and still retaining some snap. So I contend the combination of the three is a culinary nirvana. The Zagat and Michelin people have to get their butts out here and have this combination. Take my advice and order this combination here. You will become a regular.

Fantastic soul food! Huge portions, great flavors, friendly staff and seemingly endless options. You really can't go wrong here with anything you choose - just make sure to come hungry. Personal favorites are the catfish, fried and broiled chicken, greens, mac n cheese, candied yams, pecan pie... damn. Now I'm hungry! Price is right too, and the hot sauce is always on the table.

OMG. Visiting Chicago from Seattle, but originally from Houston, and MAN was I excited for some Soul Food. I got every side possible because I am a greedy gluttonous girl. Corn, corn bread, collard greens, yams, potatoes, pecan pie. Sweet tea. Fried Chicken. It was ALL good. And you can't go wrong with cafeteria style! And service was friendly. MAN I'm hungry now!

My "Chicago" pastor sent my friend and I here....I had the fried chicken. mac and cheese, green beans, yams, corn muffins, and lemon cake. She had the short ribs and similar sides. All I know is, I was SO full I was almost too sleepy for Bible Study! The portions are huge and the food is tasty and seasoned to perfection! You WON'T go wrong here!!!

The location in Hanover Park is the best of the two. The best soul food in Chicago! The smothered chicken --- delicious. The dressing -- delicious. Fried chicken --- Delicious. Mac & Cheese --- Delicious. All of the dinner foods are delicious. Only thing that was just 'ok' was the carrot cake.
