Ravinia Coffee Station

Love love love the coffee here! Cappuccinos are rich, smooth and utterly satisfying. I had the chocolate chip banana bread and it was a great accompaniment to my cappuccino. Josh was very nice and the place is clean and just small enough to discourage the typical laptop-cafe-all-day- hangout-work crew crowd. I just wish they had longer hours.
It's been a coffee week for me, and here's what I love about this stop off the Ravina Metra: It's new. It's a special place. It's intimate with only a few seats along the window. It's only open until 2pm each day. It's neighborly. And, like Chris M says they serve Passion House roasted coffee...one of my favorite roasters BTW. I've been meaning to pay a visit to this new shop in Ravinia, and I'm so glad I finally made it in today. I drove up, ran into the the owner of the photography studio around the corner who was enjoying his coffee and Internet, and I met the delightful owner, Josh, who proudly mixed my vanilla latte right in front of me at the counter as I waited. It was delicious. For those who follow my vanilla latte reviews, this one is up there as a favorite. Whenever I find a latte that's flavorful without needed sweetener, it gets a big thumbs up. My hubby opted for the Americano, and it too was worth the many sips I stole. When I can't make it into Downtown Highland Park to my other favorite stop, I will be patronizing this place. Ravinia has a winner here, and the staff is lovely too! I didn't see the pastries, but I was focused on the coffee. You won't want to miss out on this one.
Love, love, love this place!!!! I am so fortunate to have this establishment right down the street from me. Not only are the drinks wonderful but Josh and Lisa are the greatest! Totally friendly, welcoming and kind to all of the patrons of their shop. Their cayenne and honey lattes are a must and my go to drink when it is cold out (it has just the right amount of heat and sweet) otherwise I go for their iced coffee which is amazing. If you are in the area or just want some excellent coffee make sure to stop by. Oh, I forgot to mention, if you are lucky you might catch some excellent live music which they sometimes have :)

Frost Gelato

Very cute gelato shop in downtown Highland Park. They stress the benefits of gelato over ice cream and it's true - less calories and fat, and it loses nothing in flavor. Frost may just be my new favorite gelato shop. It has a TON of flavors to choose from. Seriously I had a hard time settling on two but finally picked Mint Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter Crunch. It's awesome that you can mix any two flavors you like...that made me a much a happier girl getting to try two off my list. All of the flavors looked SO good - even the flavors I know I wouldn't normally like. The presentation is just adorable for each and every one with cute little food items lodged in the gelatos and sorbets to properly showcase what the flavors were. My friend and I chilled outside this afternoon at one of their outdoor sidewalk tables. To top it off, a girl came out with a tray of water for everyone sitting outside. What a sweet touch! I must go back and try more from Frost!
My favorite place to get gelato! I enjoy telling all my friends about this place and bringing them here! I cant wait for summer to start and bring my Boyfriend here like old times! Always going for a walk and always ended up here! The employees are AMAZING and SUPER nice!!
This is perfectly good gelato. I come here a lot, but it's not something I DREAM about later. I think it's just a little too close to a regular ice cream shop, as opposed to a gelato shop, for my tastes. The straciatella, pistachio and chocolate-hazelnut are great (along with a few others), but some of the flavors are clearly not even close to authentic (bubblegum?). Another thing I miss, which I've been able to do in every other gelato shop I've been to, is having more than one flavor per cup. I want to mix my flavors! But those aren't huge complaints. The gelato here really is pretty tasty. I like it a lot.

Love, love the sushi here but it's very disappointing when you call to place an order and they tell you they are so busy that they can't take orders at that time. Good for them, bad for customers who are craving their amazing sushi. Maybe they can get more help to deal with the rush? This happens many times, often many nights in a row and I end up going somewhere else.
Nice little restaurant in an ugly location. I almost turned around in the parking lot. Glad I didn't. Nice interior. Quite authentic. Good sushi and nice service.
This is my family's go-to sushi place. Other restaurants may have decent sushi, but not all have awesome non-sushi entrees for the pickier eaters. They've recently doubled in size, and the wait times have gotten a little longer. But with free miso and free dessert, who can complain? My family of 4 eats here for under $40 on a regular basis.

ArrivaDolce

Reviews:
I went here for the first time last week, and found a great new favorite place! I had the fantastic tomato and basil tart to go with my iced tea/lemonade. Both were very good. I then had a fabulous gelato (can't remember the name but it was like chocolate chip but with shaved chocolate) that is up there with ones in New York and Europe. Very cozy, and nice friendly staff. I'm a fan
ArrivaDolce is an adorable coffee shop in downtown Highland Park with some gelato and other yummy baked good items. I first discovered them last week at Yelp's Passport to Paris event. So when I was in Highland Park again this weekend, I sought them out to try. On a Saturday morning, ArrivaDolce was poppin'. Packed tables and clearly a HP hot spot. My friend and I went in for drinks but then----I saw a baked good that called my name. My bud said, Don't do it! What about your healthy eating!? But I'm weak and I love chocolate so I couldn't stop my mouth from ordering the Mint Chocolate Brownie. This Mint Chocolate Brownie was so decadent and worth the (probably 800) calories. I can't explain how rich, soft, gooey and just the right amount of mint this. I'm craving it as I write this which is always a good indicator of me loving something.
With a love for coffee and experience working at Caribou Coffee for a little while I started out 2014 with the mission to visit all of the coffee shops in my area. After visiting a few, I thought why not write reviews and share my thoughts on each of them. So here we are... without any further ado let's dive right in to my unbiased review of ArrivaDolce Location and Ambiance: This coffee shop is located in downtown Libertyville, and is definitely in a nice location if your looking to grab some food from the local restaurants or go shopping in near by stores. This is NOT a chain coffee shop, so you get a whole different experience from your regular local Starbucks. Coffee: Well it is a coffee shop, so lets talk coffee! The coffee is really quite good, and has a strong coffee flavor. Please note I did not try any black coffee, I ordered a latte which tasted great! Food: The great thing about ArrivaDolce is their food! They have a huge selection of foods. That plus the gelato bar, you could basically stay there all day and you would be set. Staff: The staff was nice, but felt the same as Starbucks, Caribou, or any other corporate store. This wasn't horrible, but I just wanted a more homie feel. No complaints, but nothing special. Overall, I have to say its a great place. No complaints, so its a 5 of 5 stars from me! Thanks, Connor Brady

Reviews:
Great pizza for delivery! We had a very large party (over 70 guests). We ordered a lot of what we thought would be EXTRA pizzas but everyone seems to love Lou Mal's so much, we barely had a pizza left over. Came on time, very nice delivery lady, and delicous pizza. They even gave us a 20% discount for our huge order which was much appreciated! We will definitely order again from here.
I love Chicago style pizza and Lou's has it! This location is take out only but it is solid. I can always count on getting a real Chicago pizza here and they also have things my kids will eat too. The staff is alway friendly happy and there to help!
Great pizza and they deliver. There are many pizza options in the area and some of them deliver but this one is far better than any others. Deep dish Lou without the mushrooms is my choice. Basically a pizza with some spinach. I still think Gino's east is the best deep dish but this is a close second.

Once Upon A Bagel

Reviews:
Best Kosher deli belongs to Once Upon A Bagel! I've been coming here for years and everything is great here! I decided to take my husband here today because he had never been to this deli. We came in during lunch hour, and ordering was fast and efficient. Both my husband and I ordered a hot corned beef sandwich on a garlic bagel with mustard. We shared a side order of their Cajun curly fries. The corned beef was served warm as we asked with not a lot of fat on it. I'm not fan of fatty corned beef. The bagel was soft and fresh with the perfect amount of garlic along with the perfect amount of mustard. The pickle of course tasted crisp and awesome. I was impressed with their Cajun fries they weren't spicy and tasted hot and fresh. Being a first timer, my husband was thoroughly impressed. We are looking forward to dining here again and also want to try their Northbrook location.
The North Shore is filled with restaurants but not too many home town deli's. Sure you have your Einstein Bros. Bagels & a few other large chain options like Starbucks but this is the place to go if you want a fresh deli where the food doesn't feel like it came out of a box that was shipped USPS. I have been a big fan of the Lox N Bagels sandwich for a while but lately my regular places have been letting me down, then I found this gem. I ordered a Lox N Bagel & the awesomeness ensued. The bagel was nice & fresh & most importantly the salmon was fresh. The workers & staff here were very friendly & quick to complete my order. The place was also very clean & had a decent amount of seating. Another positive about this place is that they can deliver bagel platters to businesses in the area. This is very useful if your office is looking for a quick breakfast snack. This restaurant has a plethora of different bagel & cream cheese flavors & none of them have let me down yet. Overall the workers & the service is very good. The restaurant is clean & most importantly the food is delicious. I would definitely come here again.
First of all the the menu has more items than I've ever seen in a restaurant. Decor is a little worn on the edges, but hey, who's complaining - it's a deli. Good bagels (all the varieties that you could ever want - thick, thin, long) with more shmears than you could ever imagine. Can't think of anything that they don't serve - even huevos rancheros. Oy!!

Mizrahi Grill

Reviews:
This may be my favorite restaurant on the North Shore! I've been eating here for years, and kept hearing how close it was to the food in Israel. Last year I was finally able to go to Israel myself. Let me tell you, there is NOT much difference! The best thing about Mizrahi that makes it so much like real Mediterranean is the quality of the pita - easily the best I've had anywhere this side of the Atlantic. So soft, thick, and fluffy! I usually go for the shawarma pita, and it has never let me down. Something especially delicious is they put their soft french fries in the pita so you get the nice mushy potato in the same bite as all the rest of the fix-ins. The hummus at Mizrahi is also fantastic, tasting completely the opposite of all the other packaged ones I might find at the grocery. If you get the platter, they serve it with olive oil in the center and more nice, warm pitas to dip. Also, when I take out, I always - without fail - order a bunch of extra pitas to take home and eat whenever my stomach permits. The restaurant itself is nothing to gawk at, but the pictures of Jerusalem lining the walls are nice, and the orthodox patrons who are always there almost serve as a justification that this place is the real deal. In terms of prices, it is not cheap, but also not overly expensive. Pretty reasonable for the amount of food I guess. So come with an empty stomach and come often, except on Shabbat when it is closed. The portions are large, and the food is unparalleled!
Really wanted to like this place. My first visit. Ordered a laffa wrap with shawarma (I was starving and knew it was a lot of food), and a small hummus. The bread that comes with the hummus is great. Thick and fluffy (hopefully that's not what she said). The wrap was ok too. Until I got about half way. Somehow some plastic wrap made its way into my sandwich. At first I thought it was a bay leaf or something, but I pulled it out of my mouth and there it was. Needless to say I lost my appetite and desire to finish anything. The hummus is actually decent, but I still prefer Pita Inn. I might go back and try again to give them another chance. We will see. I'm not going to call them though. In this day and age, they know they have reviews on here. They should keep on top of it.
Middle Eastern Restaurant's in the middle of shopping centers usually don't get my attention unless my senses such as my nose picked up the flavorful seasoned meat aromatics that filled the air which pulled me into Mizrahi Grill. They have a simple menu and usually get the specials which were listed on the black board on the wall, my nose picked the gyros and it was delicious. I've been coming into MG for the past month and tried almost everything on their menu. The service is impeccable, they will come by and ask you how was the food and refill your water. I highly recommend this place.

Walker Bros Original Pancake House

620 Central Ave
Highland Park, 60035
Reviews:
I can only speak about the apple pancakes because they're so unthinkably good I've never tried anything else. The apple pancake descends through an eldritch portal from the Dreamlands where pancakes aren't the bland, flat slabs of dough we're accustomed to here. The Walker Bros apple pancake is a thick, moist, opulent demigod of the breakfast table. These pancakes haunt my dreams.
I've been wanting to come to Walker Bros Pancake House ever since I realized it was real place, as referenced in Mean Girls! Yes, I'm easily excitable... You could even call me basic. Anyways, the bf surprised me with a visit here after a very hangry morning that started much later than anticipated. I was so excited when I walked in! The interior is very "old school" looking and reminds me of the Perkins restaurants. Between the two of us, we tried the potato pancakes, blueberry pancakes, eggs and bacon, and the hash browns. The bf loved the potato pancakes but in my opinion they were a bit gummy. They come with sour cream and applesauce. Neither of us were brave enough to try applesauce on our savory pancakes but it sounds interesting. I am not the biggest fan of powdered sugar on my pancakes. I still enjoyed the blueberry pancakes despite this addition. I especially liked the fresh, hot blueberry sauce and the maple syrup. Let's talk about these THICK CUT bacon strips, and four of them no less! Oh my. They aren't crispy like the thin ones, but it's a different kind of appreciation. The hashbrowns were crispy on the outside and very tasty. Not sputtering with grease like a common southern chain I know... The WB Pancake House gets a gold star for this visit. Even with all that we ordered, the bill came to $20. I would make a return visit if ever given the opportunity, but probably wouldn't go out of my way again.
Most over rated restaurant. This is the 3rd and last time i visit Walker Bros. I went on a Friday around 10:30am. I was sat immediately. The waitress came by in decent time. I didn't get any coffee for 10 minutes. The food then took 20 minutes. Keep in mind they're not that busy. My omelette was a dry flat brown pillow with hard cheese in the middle. I went with my friend whose corned beef hash was barely cooked. My waitress was no where to be found. I had to walk to the server station and grabbed my own sauces and napkins. Some other customers asked me to take their order! I had to tell them I didnt work there and I was just grabbing my own condiments. Im usually not too upset about these things but if youre charging me that much for breakfast my expectations are a bit higher. My bill came to $23.57 without tip. Thats for a sausage omelette, hash browns and coffee with a side of pancakes. I think Walker Bros have gotten too complacent. They expect people to keep coming no matter what. I think wealthy people like the fact that the high prices drive away families who are on a budget. So if you don't want to sit with the IHOP or Dennys crowd and want mediocre/bad breakfast food and pay almost double for your food this is the place for you.
