I'm a big fan of Red Ox. Awesome food, great menu selection, cheap cold beer, and the best saganaki in the area. Another high point is the pizza... great stuff. Knocking off a star for occasional bad service; at times, it's been slow or uncoordinated. Overall, however, I highly recommend this restaurant if you're a local or in the area.

We went in on a Thursday night. The parking lot was full. We were greeted and seated immediately. There were all kinds of dining patrons; ladies meeting; beer drinkers, families. It was great. They have a AYCE Spaghetti Special on Thursdays in addition to the pizza. With Meatballs or Sausage or Both if you prefer. We had salad and soup to start with the Homemade Hot Bread. So good. We had the special and it was plentiful and good. I ordered liver and onions bc I was in the mood.. You have to be in the mood for that. This is classic american dining at its finest. I would give it 5 stars for food value. 4 stars overall. Dinner and drinks (alcohol) $25. Red Ox Rocks. We will be back.

Never eaten at the Ox but every time we come into town to visit family we stop in for a drink. Hampshire is a small town but the Red Ox seems to be a local favorite. The cocktails seem reasonably priced and the bar tenders friendly. I plan to continue to drink here, but we always go into other towns to eat or visit the Chick-n-Dip around the corner for amazing broasted chicken!

May be one worst restaurant we have been to. Manager put us next to some accordion player. Live entertainment at its worse. We asked for a quiet table and the manager finally moved us. Food was below average as we eat out quite often for comparison.

I've been here for meals several times but the quality isn't what it used to be in past years. Tonight I dined by myself and was seated near the server station. I never heard such vulgar language from the retiree waitresses. The food is good, not spectacular, but they need new servers. Soon! P.s. Went again recently, and ended up leaving before even getting a menu because Again the waitress were dropping the f bomb about the fact I moved tables. Note that they was only 1 other table of people. I called the owner that claimed he had no idea. Somehow I doubt that.

The food here is ok. The pizza is the best thing on the menu. Met the owner and he is a nice guy. Service is a little slow and the bussers are in a rush to take your dishes from your table .. sometimes while you are still working on eating from them.

Nice local place to eat. Menu is pretty varied. Delicious fish fry, same specials every week. Great patio if you don't mind the noise from 72. Don't drink the water; tastes like dirt.

ALL I CAN SAY IS HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! Went there this past weekend on Friday and was helped by the hostess who is so sweet and friendly. Our waitress Char was nice and really helpful! Saturday night after a long day of running errands and being busy we decided to do take out at Red Ox. Let me just say before this night we couldn't stop talking about how great we thought this place was and was excited to have a bunch of our family and friends there for a mini graduation dinner but now that decision is a resounding NO! We picked up our food got home and noticed our steaks were not cooked to our medium requests, instead it was bright pink and bloody. We thought it was just a fluke but both cheeseburgers we ordered and our other steak were all cooked like this despite our requests that we wanted it medium. My husband decided to call and talk to the hostess, as nice as she was she offered us to bring it back but my husband wanted to talk to the owner about the meal either way. Well, Jimmy the owner got on the phone and my husband proceeded to explain the wrong in how our food was cooked and THE OWNER THEN SAID TO US "well don't you have fire at your home"! Can't you cook it"? Are you kidding me, we were looking for a free meal, an apology maybe a free dessert or free drinks next time but not in a million years did I think it would be "do you have FIRE"!! Jimmy, I am shocked how you treat your customers! The only reason your busy is not for your food or the atmosphere or the owner! It's because you are the only restaurant in town open late! News flash I would rather starve than go into your restaurant ever again!!

We dined at Red Ox tonight. We were celebrating my daughter's 20th Birthday. The food was okay but I feel a bit overpriced. I checked out the online menu before coming in and noticed some of the prices were higher than what was listed online. Tonight was 1/2 off pizza and AYCE spaghetti. The restaurant was packed! Good for business but very difficult for our enjoyment. We were seated next to two large parties of 10+ diners and I couldn't hear a lot of the conversation at my own table! I commented to the waitress about the noise and there was no attempt to move us. The restaurant was so packed, I don't think it would have helped. My daughter ordered the filet and it was NOT even a mediocre steak. I could compare it to a cheap cut you buy on sale at your local grocery store. The Amaretto sours were great but our second round came about 15 mins after ordering. I felt like we were trying to drink them quickly to finish before leaving. Very disappointed- Not worth the $100+ for a party of three.

The service was so so. The food was fine nothing spectacular. I ordered pizza to go and supposed to be half price pizza on Thursday's. I didn't realized until I saw the sign on the way out. I'd left the place that i paid full price for the pizza. I guess that's how they treat local residents. I'm not going to eat here again and probably recommend to other's s to stay away. I would probably given them 3 stars, but not anymore.

Went there on Sunday. Food was excellent. Had the hand tossed pizza. ..delicious! ! My mom had the tilapia and niece had ribs. It was all great and service was good too. Prices very reasonable. Would definitely recommend.

Went here a while back for drinks and appetizers. Had the fried calamari and ended up with the worst case of food poisoning I've ever had. I still cannot even drive by without getting nauseous. This place is always busy, though, so either my experience was a fluke or people go here because it is one of only three restaurants in town (and the only one with a halfway decent bar).

The Red Ox has a captive clientele. a mini "Cheers" with the same drunks and local barflies night after night....... alas the only halfway decent Restaurant in the area. Owner sits at the bar and is usually drunk. Food is decent, nightly specials are reasonably priced good menu selections, all the Greek selections are excellent ! Garbage wine list, one step up from Chablis, Burgundy or Rose, order a beer, good selection, or booze, check for lipstick on your glass. Nice outdoor patio weather permitting, lots of parking, lot usually pretty full, but hey their is no other decent restaurant around.

Went there this past Friday evening for Dad's birthday (his choice) after not having dined here in over 2 years. The place was always good having a large variety of food done well, contrary to other places where too many menu items usually translates into below average quality. Used to be very reasonably priced as well, but noticed white-out over the prices on the menu and new, more expensive prices hand written over the old ones. Not happy to pay $29.95 for a filet at this type of place, it's not a high-end steakhouse, it's more of an above average typical Greek-owned variety restaurant. Everything was good here from fried chicken to lasagna, pizza and steak. French Onion soup is De-Licious! Only one complaint: London Broil was not prepared as stated on the menu and way too salty that my girlfriend's lips were swollen for a couple of days! She didn't eat it and they took off $5.00 (at least).

I was a little leery because of the negative reviews I read. We went at about 7pm on a saturday and the place was packed! I think they may have been understaffed for the evening though because there was a bit of a lag in the service, but we were still taken care of very well. We were seated almost immediately, and had bread and water on the table within a few minutes. Our server was super friendly, the food was great. My biggest issue was the only available table was in the bar area, and we had to deal with listening to the loud mouth sitting at the bar who kept yelling at the TV. Other than that, we had a great evening and would definitely return.

Wow...surprised this place has such low reviews. Me and the GF stopped in on a Tuesday night for dinner. I've driven by this place a million times during my commute but have never been in. From the top...the interior decor is pretty good. It's a tad dark, but it's not too bad. There's a bar area that's..well...a bar. And there's a dining area that's much nicer. There's an outside area, but it was a bit too cold for that. First thing that came out was warm bread. It was pretty good, but the crust was a bit too hard. I still enjoyed it, though. The soup came out after the bread. It was very good. It tasted homemade, which is a plus. We both ordered burgers. These things were huge...1/2 pounders. The meat was not frozen and was pretty good quality. It was very flavorful. I ordered mine medium. It came out more medium-rare, but I didn't mind. If you're sensitive to this kind of thing, order one step up. Both burgers came with steak fries that, while of the frozen variety, were good enough. The prices were quite reasonable for the quality of the food. Also of note, the prices of the draft beer is obscenely low. Our waitress was amazing. She was caring, but not overbearing. I don't like feeling smothered by wait staff, but I don't like when they're aloof or apathetic. Overall, I'd definitely stop back in.

Red ox is your basic American style restaurant and menu. The Ox has good food for a good price. The wait staff is always pleasant and friendly. The beer selection is nice especially the Labatt Blue on tap. All in all it's a nice local joint, but nothing to go out of your way for. I recommend the chicken alfredo, rotiserrie chicken and the pizza on Thursdays when it's half price!

We were nearby at a horse show two weeks ago and stopped in for dinner. We definitely surprised them with a group of 12 (that turned into 15). The service was efficient and the food was very good. They even split the checks correctly; since the kids were at one end and the adults at the table they had a challenge. The reason they get 4 stars and not 5 is because when we went back the next night they switched waitresses after we gave our drink order. The original waitress never put in our drink order nor did she give it to her replacement. We had to order all over. It was only drinks so it wasn't that big of a deal, but hey, I'm picky. The onion soup is good (I tend to like mine a little salty and it was). The New York Steak Sandwich has better flavor than the filet but both were very good.

I kept driving by this restaurant and noticing that they always had quite a few cars in their lot (a good sign) and that the building looked very well maintained. Hmm.. maybe worth a stop. Went there the other night - other reviewers had noted nice patio, with noise from 72. They were right. Overall noise is not a problem, but the group of motorcycles roaring by at one point put a stop of all conversation. The food was good. Spanokopita was good. Beer was good - they've got some yummy things on tap and reasonable prices. I had Greek Salad, came with anchovies - loved it. Bread was good. Hubby had a hamburger - it arrived and looked un-inspired...not enough blue cheese, no onions or anything to give it eye-appeal. He said it tasted "ok". Fries were good. I ordered French Onion Soup and was asked if I wanted to pay $1 to have it baked... What? Apparantly their French Onion Soup does not by default include the cheese baked on top. Very weird and annoying. It's not really French Onion Soup then, is it. (My opinion). Oh - not the restaurant's fault - but lots of bugs on patio...so watch what you are eating. :-) This restaurant is decent and has potential. Would like to see them stop skimping on things like cheese. Raise the price a $1 and pile it on. Would I recommend... well...yeah, with cautions. Would I return - I would, but husband says he won't. Wouldn't go out of the way to go there, but we do occasionally drive by.
