The steak Diane is very good and a safe choice! I was blown away by the flowerless chocolate cake! Divine! Good place to take a girlfriend who is not afraid to eat in front of you, pricey though.

Frank & Betsie's continues to be a place we thoroughly enjoy patronizing. A relaxing and intimate atmosphere we just absolutely love. Appreciate the option to dress up or down and still feel comfortable. Great service and a wonderfully enjoyable Valentine's Day dinner for two was had this evening. My husband enjoyed New England clam chowder (the best), followed by a caesar salad and rainbow trout entree. "Betsie's Favorite" (portabello mushrooms served this evening in a burgundy reduction sauce) is now my favorite. Strawberry mousse cake ended the meal on a high note. Overall a delightful dining experience.

You don't really see places like this very much anymore. The service was superb-they don't miss details and think of ones you haven't thought of which you see maybe once or twice a year in a restaurant. It's white table cloth and we thought most of the food was pretty good. They have a diverse menu that's seasonal and well prepared. the only reason it wasn't 5 stars was because the bread was stall and mostly a hard crunchy crust like a saltine. I'm not a big bread person but the presentation usually gives you a first impression of what the restaurant is and they failed that test. The desserts were excellent though I wasn't a fan of the veggies that came with the dinner and thought the rice was unremarkable. very classy place warm place however and I would go back.

An evening was well spent with friends at Frank and Betsies. I had lamb shank which was well prepared and I enjoyed the fact that it was a generous portion. I've had this dish elsewhere and the portion is much smaller. It was very flavorful. The other guests had the half chicken (which was thoroughly enjoyed) and something with schnitzel. Sorry, can't remember. We all loved our dishes. I especially enjoyed the ambience. It is a very pleasant dining room with posters, table cloths and always flowers on the table which give it a lovely civilized feeling. Our waiter, David, was efficient and pleasant. There are many fine deserts to choose from and I chose my favorite to share, chocolate flour less cake. The Creme brûlée was excellent as well. Soup or salad are included as well as a side dish. Although it is a little on the pricey side, I believe you get good value. Try it. You will go back!

Went tonight. Nice but poor server. No attention or interest from management. Caesar salad drenched in dressing. Ordered "light and crisp" broiled whitefish, came heavily breaded and baked, although fresh tasting. Overall a disappointment.

Despite living in the area for seven years, I had never been to Frank and Betsie's until about two weeks ago. I had delayed going because I'd been told that it was more of an "older crowd" destination, and coming from my mid-40s friends, I took that to mean it catered to a senior citizen crowd. This is true, in part, but they also cater to the moms-who-lunch crowd, and our table of eight felt very welcome and at ease. The menu is extensive. I had the buffalo chicken salad, and absolutely loved it. Friends had the quiche, cobb salad, and crab cakes, and they all raved about their food, as well. Service was super friendly and accommodating, although a bit slow. There is a lovely dessert case, and the next time I go back I'd like to sample the chocolate mousse cake. There is outdoor seating and the restaurant has done a good job of trying to create a space that doesn't look out directly to Green Bay Rd. The inside is a bit dark - that's the only thing I was a bit "meh" about.

Won't knock your socks off, but the people who run it are very nice. And they are patient as the average age of the clientele is generally over 65. Get the steak Diane as I believe it is their signature dish.

Although Frank and Betsies is a short walk from my house and the food is quite good, I can not get over the crabby owners who do notbhave the slightest idea of what customer service is all about The last time I was there I took one look at their pathetic wine list and asked the waitress if I could bring my own. I offered to pay a $20 corkage fee. The waitress asked the owners and they rejected my offer which I found puzzling given the most expensive wine on their list at the time was $35. I have never returned

My family and I highly recommend this restaurant. Everything from the food to the charming atmosphere and service helped to make our experience a memorable one. After our wonderful dinner, we were able to choose from a wide variety of after dinner treats. The lemon cake, pecan torte, and carrot cake were just a few we noticed in the desert case that night. We learned that all of the deserts are made by Betsie, and this I know makes them even better. If one had to choose...the lemon cake would be my personal favorite. The parking was very easy (off of Scott), and we all left that evening with a smile. Thank you. We will come again!

This has been a family favorite for years...a weekly tradition. Frank and Bestie are wonderful hosts, they have a good balance between the family-restaurant-feel and the fancy-french-bistro-feel. If you're a regular, they'll remember you. We almost always go for dinner, but have been for lunch on occasion also. They're also very willing to accommodate dietary needs, my mom eats gluten-free and the cook is always able to make adjustments. Some menu suggestions: my personal favorite is the chicken schnitzel, but the beef stroganoff and the lamb shank are also excellent. For appetizers, the baked brie would be my recommendation, and they make (seriously) the BEST Caesar dressing in the entire world. Seriously. When it comes time for dessert, make sure you sample one of Frank's famous truffles, Betsie's cookies dipped in chocolate, or (my habitual choice) a mini chocolate eclair. YUM. Oh, my mom gets the chocolate flourless cake...perfect for those gluten-free folks. The desserts themselves are reason enough to stop by...so make sure you save room. So, go to Frank and Betsie's. Tell them I sent you. You will not be disappointed.

Everything about this place gave me a really good comfortable feeling. We met friends for lunch and all the food was good and nicely presented. The ambiance and service from Frank was charming, thoughtful, welcoming, gracious, and made me want to come back to try dinner one day very soon.

Great little place! We went there for Mother's Day and were very pleased with the food and service. While they cannot really call themselves "French" 100%, they do serve good food at a reasonable price. The wait-staff was very helpful and attentive and we were very happy from the pate to the dessert. I would recommend the Ceaser Salad and make sure that you save room for dessert, especially the Creme Brulee.

My wife and I were looking for a place to eat after a matinee at the Writer's Theater. Several area places rated highly on line were booked and so we ended up here. A delightful evening ensued. Our server, Michael was most helpful. The butternut squash soup was outstanding. I had the lamb shank and my wife had chicken with a pomegranate sauce . Both were very good followed by some very tasty pastry desserts. Coffee a tad bland but wine list very reasonable. The place is small, ideal for a couple or group of four. Not a place for kids or a larger group. The bulk of the crowd on this Saturday evening appeared to be regulars. Definitely an older clientele but obviously a crowd with good taste. The north shore is stuffed with great restaurants but this is a great option if you are in the area. Perfect if you're looking for a place to eat before or after a show at the Writer's Theater. If we lived closer we would likely be regulars. Small, no real area to wait so recommend a reservation.

Overpriced, food was mediocre. Lunch menu offered a page full of $10+ paninis. I splurged and went for a $13.50 sandwich with lemon chicken breast and artichokes on sourdough (other option was multi grain). The bread was basically just regular sliced loaf bread, like youd get in the bread aisle at Jewel and the chicken and artichokes barely registered even within the tiny confines of the bread. They must have just cleaned the press because the bread had a chemical aftertaste. The garnish was a couple of lame slices of cantelope and tomatoes. Honestly, the entire plate looked like something you'd scrape together at home when you havent been to the store in a while. I could have saved $10 and made myself a better, more filling sandwich at home. Minestrone was ok but nothing to write home about. Service was slow even though we were one of only two tables.

I feel like I'm a roll with suburban eating; I guess it's good to change the scenery every now and then. I had dinner tonight with my "aunt" Dianne in Glencoe at a cute little French place called Frank and Betsie's. It was a simple meal with the focus on catching up on life and my travels. The food was tasty and a large menu to choose from. The feeling is definitely small suburban french bistro and I can see how it's been around for 15 years. The bread is served nice and warm with butter (I'd prefer olive oil) with a nice wine list. Our entire meal consisted of three items, Dianne's large soup, my Cesar salad starter and trout main dish. The salad was great and I could have twice as much. My trout was very well cooked and served with sides of rice and a few veggies. The mushroom, Dijon and dill sauce was a perfect compliment of flavors. Our service was very good, even on a slow night and my only complaint would be the value. But I guess the pricing comes with the territory and even then it's not super crazy (three dishes and two glasses of wine for $50). The outside patio is a huge bonus for the summer and fall seasons, and I'd recommend going there for a nice, quiet meal in the suburbs. There's a good reason Chicago Magazine named it a best restaurant in 1999.

We had dinner there and it was fabulous in every way. The service was attentive but not pushy. The decor was low-key and cozy and the food was just wonderful. the lamb shank was superb and so was the chicken florentine. Even a non-chicken lover eating the leftovers agreed. It's our new favorite place and I don't know how we got along without it.

Loved! Loved! Found this restaurant by searching Yelp and am so happy we gave it a try! The service was terrific - our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, good-natured and was open to our questions. He let us try a couple different wines to get to the one we wanted with each course - twice we picked the ones he suggested over our own ideas. We were not rushed in any way - even when we were the last ones in the place and were pretty much done but still having a nice conversation. The food was outstanding! At first the prices seemed a little high but when you find out they include soup or salad, veggie and potato/rice sides it becomes way more reasonable than the trend in restaurants today to give you nothing but the meat/fish on your plate and make you order sides etc. ala carte. The chicken was all Amish and the one I had, with pomegranate sauce, was awesome! The men had the steak which was made to order and well-proportioned while our other lady friend had a combo plate special of shrimp, fish and steak that was a big hit. Between the regular menu items and the specials of the day we each could have ordered a number of different things which is a nice change from going to restaurants that only offer one chicken or 2 fish choices. The desserts were terrific too. Wine selection is excellent with 3-5+ selections of most varietals all offered at very reasonable bottle prices and by the glass. Overall, a terrific experience with an excellent waitstaff and very tasty food and drinks. 5 stars!

I've avoided F&B's for the past year because (1) it's typically crowded with blue hairs and (2) it's rather strip-mallish from the outside. But the reviews were good so I decided to give it a try with my sister and her little girl for a weeknight dinner. We were pleasantly surprised. Considering that all meals come with soup or salad, choice of starch and vegetables, the prices are reasonable. The beef stroganoff was of excellent quality, with a thick, rich sauce whose only downfall was lack of salt...probably because the majority of patrons are watching their salt intake. Steak frites were delicious. Fries were hand cut and homemade, and served piping hot (as were the entrees). They did, however, need salt. Wine by the glass selection was adequate and priced ok. Creme brulee was very good and came with a chocolate truffle that was beyond outstanding. Some have noted that service is not very good. That was certainly not the case for us. Our waitress was very helpful, and Betsie herself served the desserts with a big friendly smile. Overall F&B's exceeded my expectations on all levels. The menu contains a broad selection of items that sound very appealing, so I will definitely go back.

I've been going there for years. Good food but the owners are not the friendliest. On our last vist after my 40 year old wife ordered her wine Frank came by our table and asked for ID. She didn't have it and he took the wine away. Betsie has served her for the last 11 years and has never asked. Needless to say we left and will not go back!

Charming little restaurant with good food. I have only been there for lunch but the caesar salad, soups, and sandwiches are all very good. More than a couple of times I have wondered if the servers even knew we were there. Generally very slow, so be prepared to take your time. The last time I was there the prices were a couple of dollars higher than before, so unfortunately I don't know if I will be going back.

Service was terrible, food cold and overpriced. It's a tiny restaurant, but we waited over an hour to be served. We arrived at 7, but salmon and whitefish were already sold out. It felt like a hospital emergency room, where the waitress and owners walked by and avoided eye contact. Miss it.

Very nice little townie restaurant. The manager herself walks around to make sure everything is up to par. They seated us a little later in the evening and we were definitely the last table to be seated, yet they took excellent care if us and made sure we had everything we wanted. The food was very good and their pastries are fantastic. I really enjoy this place and it helps that it is within walking distance if my house!

The food and service are not as good as they used to be at Frank and Betsie's. I received a bad piece of white fish. It had bones in it and lots of gray gooey flesh. When I voiced my concern to Frank, he said it was because I wanted the fish cooked well......bad excuse!.. My rather skimpy caesar salad came without croutons which the other three salads had. To add insult to injury, rather than offering for us not to have to pay for my meal, they confirmed, then came back and said to pay 1/2! I am sad Frank and Betsies is going "downhill"
